Egypt Tours

The Pyramids of Giza are probably one of the most recognised images in the world and everyone should make at least one visit in their lifetime.

Combine the chaos of Cairo with a serene sail along the Nile including the Valley of the Kings and tomb of Tutankhamun, perhaps a visit to the Red Sea, St Catherine’s Monastery, the Western Desert or El Alamein and your journey through Ancient Egypt is complete. World Journeys can tailor your journey exactly as you wish as well as providing wonderful insight and knowledge to make your Egyptian experience complete.

Cairo Be sure to visit the Pyramids of Giza & the Sphinx before exploring Cairo’s Museum of Egpytian Antiquties. More commonly known as the Egyptian Museum it houses an extensive collection of ancient antiquities which will help you to put into context the Ancient Egyptian culture.

Cruising the Nile Combine the chaos of Cairo with a serene sail along the Nile, cruising on small luxury ships between Luxor and Aswan in Upper Egypt. Stopping at the many temples along the way this a relaxing way to see life on the Nile.

Luxor Be caught up in the history of the majestic temples of Luxor and Karnak, the Valley of the Kings and the Temple of Hatshepshut. The temple of Karnak is one of the most impressive and the largest temple complex ever built by man.

Aswan A city on the Nile famous for its archaeological sites and peaceful feel – it is the perfect place to enjoy a felucca ride at sunset. Highlights of Aswan also include the High Dam, Philae Island and the unfinised Oblelisk.

Alexandria The second largest city in Egypt is known as “The Pearl of the Mediterranean”, which has an atmosphere that is more Mediterranean than Middle Eastern.

The best time to visit Egypt is during their winter: November – April when the days are warm and cloudless, particularly in the desert and Upper Egypt. Summers are blisteringly hot with temperatures soaring above 40oC.

Staff experiences

I love cruising on the Nile; you get a good dose of history and culture each morning as you explore, but afternoons are usually spent on the sundeck watching fishermen busy with their nets, children squealing with delight as they wash their horses at the waters’ edge, a famer with his buffalo staggering up the bank with a precarious pile of sugarcane and young men playing football on a rough pitch overlooking the river. The sun sinks towards the horizon more quickly than I could have imagined, its final rays bursting in vibrant shards of red, orange and purple above me.

It’s easy to understand why the Egyptians thought the Sun God, Ra, was so incredibly powerful. I have seen endless Egyptian sunsets but still watch transfixed; if it weren’t for the risk of spilling my marguerita, I am almost ready to bow down in front of Ra myself. In Luxor there are plenty of places to shop and yes, the locals may seem pushy. I suppose it helps that I speak Arabic; if only to tell the more persistent vendors that I don’t need to know my name in hieroglyphics, I already own a galabeya and have enough perfume oil to start my own shop. But I just can’t stop buying alabaster pots and bring at least one home after every trip; the soft, soapy texture is irresistible under my fingertips while light shining through the thinly carved stone is utterly captivating.

The ancient Egyptians believed that “To speak the name of the dead is to make him live again” and nowhere is this more apparent than in the Valley of the Kings. The king’s formal names and titles are inscribed in each tomb along with images and statues. Close by, the mortuary temple of Queen Hatchepsut is one of the most dramatically situated in the world. It’s a stunning example and almost as exciting – there is an alabaster carving factory on the road back!

Why we love it Allow the stories we have all heard from childhood about Howard Carter discovering the Tomb of the boy King Tutankhamun, the pyramids, sphinx and the mighty River Nile leap to life. Wandering vast halls built thousands of years ago and sitting on the deck of a cruise ship as it sails gently past sugarcane fields and mighty temples on the river bank fulfils everyone’s dream of a visit to Egypt.

Weather  Egypt has become a year round destination but mainly enjoys cool dry winters and very hot summers.

Upper Egypt sees very little rainfall with Luxor and Aswan enjoying a desert climate. The peak travelling season is November to April where the days are generally dry and warm with temperatures dropping at night.

Social customs & quirks Predominantly muslim, it is wise to be conservative in your dress, particularly if you wish to enter a religious site. The Egyptians are gregarious and hospitable. Meeting someone for the first time requires a firm handshake, direct eye contact and a smile. It would be unusual in the extreme to see a man and woman holding hands in public although much more common to see male friends doing exactly that! Eating from shared plates using your hands is often the norm, use only your right hand and if seated on the floor, it is impolite to point the soles of your feet at anyone else.

Festivals & events There are many religious festivals and celebrations throughout the year, the biggest being Ramadan, or Holy month of fasting. Muslims should refrain from eating, drinking or smoking during daylight hours with ‘iftar’ of breakfast being quite the family affair every evening. The conclusion of Ramadan is the ‘Aid’, a huge celebration where the children receive gits of new clothes and money and much feasting is enjoyed across the country.

Is it safe to travel to Egypt?

Woman posing for camera in front of the pyramids, on a sunny day with blue skies, Cairo, Egypt

Egypt is a land of pyramids and the mighty Nile, understandably popular with tourists, and visitor numbers are on the rise. Traveller safety in the region is subject to change, with civil unrest, tourist scams and terrorism all presenting threats in recent years. Although tensions have stabilised recently, parts of Egypt including the Sinai Peninsula and all land borders are still unsafe for travel.

Egypt is a relatively safe place to visit, as long as you keep your wits about you and adhere to the local cultural customs. Egypt's crime rates are low but be aware of scam artists and pickpockets which can be common.

But, it's advisable to assess the likelihood of danger when visiting tourist hotspots, especially religious sites. Although uncommon, attacks at tourist sites do occur, so monitoring your threat level through local news sources, avoiding getting caught up in large crowds, knowing of any religious or public holidays that could attract protests or civil unrest, and considering a small group tour can help you stay safe in these situations.

When travelling around markets, especially at night, be wary of pickpockets and petty crime, as this is often a problem in Egypt's public spaces. Leave your valuables at home or securely locked in your hotel safe and only bring the amount of cash you will need for the day.

There are a number of scams that are designed to target travellers in Egypt, especially around tourist sites such as at the Pyramids of Giza. One of the most common is the 'present' scam – vendors will give you a 'free' gift, sometimes with your name on it, but will demand a donation or payment, say, for a sister's wedding or family grievance. Another cash grab is locals offering you safe passage across a busy street or showing you a shortcut to a point of interest. This could be seen as an act of goodwill, but you can't be sure – many locals will ask for a baksheesh (tip) even if they just crossed the road with you, or they may take you to a specific gallery or shop where the scam will continue.

Taxis are also a common way in which tourists can be taken for a ride, if you will. If your cab has a meter, ensure it is turned on before you leave, and if it doesn't have a meter, negotiate a price before accepting the ride. It's also customary to leave a small tip. Be wary of any extra charges that your driver may add – extra persons, extra baggage etc. Agreeing on a price upfront is your best option.

Be careful with handing your camera over to locals at tourist hotspots. What you might consider asking for help to take a photo is what many locals see as a money-making opportunity. And when it comes to taking photos, be careful what you snap – it is prohibited to take photos of military installations, public buildings, some bridges and canals (including the Suez Canal), and not obeying this rule could get you in some serious trouble with the local authorities. Drones are also prohibited.

Egypt is not a safe destination for LGBTQIA+ travellers who wish to openly express sexuality and/or gender identity outside of a very rigid, heterosexual binary. Public displays of affection for any travellers are advised against as they can draw unwanted attention. For more information on safety for LGBTQIA+ travellers in Egypt .

In some areas in Egypt, female travellers may feel uncomfortable when travelling. While violent assault and crime is relatively rare in Egypt, verbal harassment on the streets is common, and women are often specifically targeted if walking alone. Female travellers, especially if by themselves, can attract unwanted attention from men on the streets and have an increased chance of being followed, accosted and sometimes assaulted. If possible, travel in groups of three or more and stay to well-lit streets when on the move, and avoid going into the back room of a shop where you cannot see the street.

Female travellers have also reported incidents of assault from taxi drivers in Egypt. If you wish to travel by taxi in Egypt, it's safer to travel as part of a group.

Part of Intrepid’s travel ethos involves respecting local cultures and sensibilities. In Egypt, it is important to be more conservatively dressed than what you may be used to, especially in and around religious sites such as mosques. For women, consider clothing that covers knees and shoulders for day-to-day travel, but when visiting religious sites, ensure that your clothing covers elbow to ankle. It's also important to cover your hair with a scarf. For more information about what to pack for Egypt, go  here .

Top 5 airlines flying to Egypt

Everything was great in the business class. Seats 1A and 1C wouldn't recline properly. If i stood up then it did recline, even when the crew checked it he made me stand up recline it all the way and then he said "ok now you can sit" i just laughed it off.

We missed our connection due to technical issues with the plane. We were stuck in Oman Airport for 5 hours, had to overnight there, got rerouted to London, were denied boarding on the plane, were then seated separately (as a family of 5), did not receive any notification of our luggage being in London, were denied boarding for the AA flight to Chicago, and then all seated separately again. Finally our luggage was lost. Worst experience ever. Will never fly on this airline again

The crew could have offered us seats together as the flight was half empty. But overall, the service quality was good as well as the food and entertainment options. Would love to fly Oman Air again.

Smooth until we get in the plane it was so small and uncomfortable the whole flight, apparently they have Changed the plane and I don’t know what was the problem this flight is from mct to phuket - on my way back everything was perfect

Although a short regional flight, Oman Air continues to provide excellent service, and personal attention. I always find the Oman Air leg of an international flight less stressful and more personable.

The whole trip was well organised, and pleasantly executed. As with most Qatar Airways flights the staff were particularly attentive and supportive. The Q Suite was the "icing on the cake".

Staff were attentive and professional, and managed to be personable and accomodating at the same time. Oman Air has become my airline of choice.

Reduced cost for children to lounge Children’s area in airport Non spicy snacks Option of children’s meals Good films More children’s games and 2 player games Ran out of vegetarian meals

Omar airways mishandled my baggage, it took me 2 weeks to get my baggage back. It's been delivered to someone else.

Not that good The crew in the plane were rim professional & almost lost in their work distribution

No entertainment u less you pay. Wish there were some free movies

Absolutely terrible delays for 3 hours changed seats after we paid an upgrade on both legs. It appears it’s up to us to request a refund after they down graded our seat. Never again !!

Good but needs to improve cleanliness Coffee serve cold Needs to raise standard serving food Otherwise good

Very bad !! My confirmed ticket got canceled with out notifying me in hyd airport , crew didn’t help us out !! They were very rude!! They made me pay for the confirmed ticket again !! Can you please let us know how I can get the refund for the ticket I paid

Amazing service and food. However I didn’t get chance to choose my own seat which bothered me a little.

Had the salad which tasted awfully spat it out but still got food poisoning 1 after running to toilet crew would not let me sit near toilets I was stuck in window seat

The individual attention the crew gives to passengers is commendable and I find them positively helpful.

Emirates is usually on time, but not this trip. Also, during the flight the attendants disappear unless called upon. Very strange. I have watched the quality of Emirates service diminish over the last five years.

On both legs of my trips (Jhb - Dxb and Dxb - Jhb) the entertainment system did not work.

Just happy I flew Qatar Airways awesome no wonder they are #1 in the world right now! The food was just delicious, very courteous, professional crew.

It was a long flight but overall a good one. The one thing that I would comment on is that there is a real problem with disposable plastic products when it comes to the meal service. It would be great for Qatar Airways to find ways to make its meal service more circular and reduce the immense amount of waste.

Not impressed. Only allowed one carry on on such a long flight.

I staff or crew they were very friendly and humbly, they done theirs service very well, I appreciate them and thank you to the company or Qatar 🇶🇦 Government for providing as good service in their flight ,once again, thank you 😊 🙏 😀 😉 👍

They shld provide food. Between food they are giving 10 hours gap which is toooo much

No separate queue for business class/platinum passengers. I had to stay in the long queue to board. I requested breakfast before landing, but the crew didn't offer, except a coffee with milk. No tea with milk was available. Had asked for cookies, but didn't receive them. The crew in the business class was not good in terms of service..

Crews are very rude and unhelpful. Cramped seats in economy. Foods are useless

Other than low space, which is the problem with all airlines for economy class, the flight was excellent.

After going through security and waiting for the flight at the gate, there was no access to bathrooms and no place to charge a phone while waiting for the flight. But once I was on the plane, everything was very good.

It was the terrific, I was promoted to businessman class, and the service was amazing.

Following a marathon flight riddled by delays and changes from Santiago, Chile, my flight to Melbourne from Sydney was on schedule but I was transferred to the next flight. The reason by ticketing and the floor manager was I missed the entry to flight by one minute! That's right, the emphasised that if I was 1 minute earlier I would be on the flight. I asked what was the point them emphasising 1minute overdue and how that helped me or the situation. They didn't care at all. Replying that if it was one minute earlier they would've done something and smirking delivering the information. Australian's do call Australia home, Qantas calls Australian's suckers.

Qantas are unable to service and unfit for purpose, they cannot transport Australians on time to overseas destinations. On top of the inflated ticketing, the Sydney flight to Santiago was impacted because the plane was delayed arriving and then further bungling by Qantas admitting the ground new ground crew in charge of cleaning were not trained. The impact on passengers with connecting flights was tremendous and long ques of frustrated passengers waiting for rescheduling. **Qantas has become the Australian Spirit of disappointment**

Amazing! Was put on the earlier flight and I requested for an aisle seat and was given it. Thanks Qantas!

Wonderful crew, good food. Absolutely loved the wine spritz and wish I could buy it!

Enjoyed the new possibilities of in flight entertainment. Been awhile since I've flown, and that was a nice surprise. Being able to pick from such a variety was personalized and welcomed.

It's only a short trip from Sydney to Melbourne, which i have done many times. The trip met my expectations

My bag didn’t make it but otherwise it was a great experience.

Better food, hotter coffee, otherwise it was a very smooth and reasonably comfortable flight.

We were delayed for 7 hours. The staff and management could have organized the getting of seats on later flight earlier than 20 minutes before late takeoff. Everyone was worried and lost. Was chaos and it didn’t need to be.

couldn't work out how to work entertainment. seats a bit cramped.

It was a nightmare. I booked business class ticket from Ediburgh to Beirut via Istanbul to attend a funeral. I had a wonderful experience flying to Istanbul from Edinburgh. Then I could not get a boarding pass issued to Beirut. It seems that although they booked me and I had a reservation number, I had no seat allocated and the flight was full. I was asked to go from one desk to another and made to wait for 2 hours. I missed my flight as I did not have a seat assigned and it was full. The only option was to put me on the next flight, 6 hours later, for a fee of over $400. They said that was the best they can do to 'help me' and to 'take it or leave it'. Well, I was not about to be bullied; I stood my ground. I booked and paid premium for the journey, which was confirmed. The eventually accepted to not charge me extra and i waited a total of over 8 hours in the airport with no compensation. On top of my grief with the risk of missing the funeral service, I had to put up with their indifference and condescending attitude. They spoke about me in Turkish thinking I would not understand (I hold a British passport) in front of me. When they eventually handed my passport and boarding pass back to me, I showed them I was born in Istanbul and that I understood everything and said a condescending 'thank you' back to them in Turkish. You should have seen their faces. I said that consumers have rights and it is a shame that Turkish Airlines does not have good customer service to at least acknowledge and apologize for errors committed by the airline. Blaming the me, the client, for such an error and placing unreasonable ultimatums, rudeness and dismissiveness to be rid of me, particularly when I was vulnerable and visibly grieving was really shocking... The airline taints the city of Istanbul and the people of Türkiye. Such a shame.

In general terms the service was excellent. I would ask that they add more content in Spanish to the catalog of movies, series and music.

Process for on line checking needs a lot of improvement. Very frustrating.

Crew announced boarding started and they asked passengers to form a queue. Actual boarding didn’t start and queue was not moving for around 40-50 mins. Very poor management.

M pretty much done with kayak and all other booking webs and apps. Scams all around my long trip.. Losing hundreds of $$ in extra charges and delays. Done with Turkish airline too. I will never use Kayak again for any of my bookings in the future!

A very good airlines; we were pleasantly surprised by the attentive professional and service! Great job.

Oh my god! For an13 hour flight they serve you food just one time. Also don’t be thirsty they give you a little small cup of soda to drink. They seem like their goal is to feed you one so they don’t have to be bothered with you. It quite surprise for such a long flight there are several times to eat at least three and the food was well lackluster. The food and lack of offering drinks which were always hot no ice provided.

The food could be better. The service was okay. Could have done more to provide water throughout the flight.

Leaving on time would have been a good start . Sat in plane while they cleaned around us . We got to Turkey raced to our next flight to see plane sitting at the gate 5 minutes before departure time to be told “ plane is gone “ while obviously it wasn’t . Showed them time on my phone before departure. Then “ gate is closed “ . Then he said “Instead of talking to me you need to go talk to someone else to get another flight “ . We booked business class no service waited in line to have to rebook same flight day later. Offered hotel room but wait for a bus to heard us to what I’m sure would have been cheap hotel. Opted for private cab and decent hotel at our own expense. Bad service at ever turn . NEVER TURKISH AIRLINES AGAIN !

TK11 on Nov 25 IST-JFK everything was excellent crew was amazing so kind

Split by the Nile River, Egypt is synonymous for its famous ancient riches and ruins. Egypt is second to none when it comes to revisiting its extensive past. A visit here is like stepping into another time and place where a sense of magic and mystery is waiting to be unearthed. The pure scale, age and volume of the ruins and tombs found along the entire course of the Nile are extraordinary.

Needing no introduction, the legendary Pyramids of Giza are no doubt Egypt’s most prized possession. Found in the capital city of Cairo, the pyramids will never fail to astonish. Experience the timeless quality of life along the Nile’s fertile banks, Egypt’s river of life for centuries and the world’s longest river. Upstream, Luxor is home to the amazing lotuscolumned Luxor and Karnak Temples which lie beside the river, while in the arid hills nearby is the famed Valley of the Kings. Further upriver is Aswan, a beautiful little city with feluccas dotting the Nile. These traditional sailboats of Egypt’s Nile still grace the river as they have done since the time of the Pharaohs.

Beyond the Nile, striking desert landscapes can be found in West Egypt, where the sand dunes and oases stretch to the Sahara. East Egypt is but the opposite – the Red Sea offers crystal waters and gleaming uncrowded coral reefs.

Explore Egypt

Where to stay, where to eat, where to stay in egypt.

Need a few suggestions of the best area to stay in Cairo? From glitzy five-star hotels to family-friendly resort towns, there’s something for all types of travellers:

Read travel guide

Cairo Marriott Hotel & Omar Khayyam Casino

Situated in the pulsating heart of downtown Cairo, the Cairo Marriott Hotel forms the perfect base from which to explore. It also offers all the mod cons you could want and need, from ultra-fast Wi-Fi and air conditioning to a wide range of eateries suited to every palate. It’s a stone’s throw from the Egyptian Museum and the Khan el-Khalili bazaar. Oh, and did we mention prime views over the Nile?

Kempinski Nile Hotel Garden City Cairo

Towering above the shimmering Nile River, a stay at the Kempinski Nile Hotel ensures that you’re never too far from the main attractions in Cairo. After a busy day of exploring, there’s really no better place to put your feet up. Comfort is the name of the game here, with a list of added features like the Jazz Bar, rooftop pool and Chocolate Lounge. Yes, you read right! This hotel has its own Chocolate Lounge!

Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at Nile Plaza

Welcome to one of the finest residences in the city. The Four Seasons Hotel lives up to its reputation of high-calibre service and swanky suites.  It also boasts a stellar location, and there’s really no better place to kick off your shoes and watch the city change colour at sunset. When you’re in the mood for a quick dip, head upstairs to the three-tiered rooftop pool – no kids are allowed here if that’s your travel preference.

Frequently asked questions

If you’re planning on a multi-city Egyptian adventure, you are most likely to pass through Cairo and Luxor. Both cities are well catered for tourists and there are plenty of accommodation options to suit your style and budget. The Red Sea coast has several resorts to choose from. We can help you tailor an itinerary to your needs.

Allow at least two to three weeks if you plan on exploring Cairo (pyramids), Luxor (Valley of the Kings, Abu Simbel) before heading to the Red Sea coast for some R&R – the more time you have, the more you can immerse yourself in enchanting Egypt.

October to April is the best time to visit Egypt, when the sun’s out but it’s not stiflingly hot.

Discover antiquities, learn about the expansive history of Egypt, wander the bustling streets of Cairo, stopping to sip some mint tea and observe the chaotic city scape, float along the Nile River, discover a whole new (underwater) world in the Red Sea – you are really spoiled for choice when you visit Egypt!

No trip to Egypt is complete without visiting Egypt’s ancient wonders. The Pyramid of Giza and the Sphinx can be seen in downtown Cairo, but you will need to travel further afield to see the Valley of the Kings and Abu Simbel. A package holiday is a great way to ensure you tick off your bucket list!

Light clothing, a hat and sunscreen, water bottle and sunglasses are a must. The heat and the glare can be formidable, so make sure you are prepared! Oh and don’t forget comfortable shoes – you’ll be doing a lot of walking!

If you’re going to travel all the way to Egypt you want to make sure you see the highlights. Cairo is a great starting point for your Egyptian holiday, before heading south along the Nile to Luxor and Aswan. If you want to dip your toes in the Red Sea, travel back up towards Hurghada. Of course, you can go off the beaten track and explore the western desert and Sinai regions as well. Whatever piques your interest, we can tailor a trip for you.

A small, black disk surrounded by a bright, white halo suspended in a mostly dark sky over the still waters of a lake in which dim, golden light from the horizon is reflecting. There are dark hills and mountains beyond the lake.

By Danielle Dowling

Are you still a little giddy from the magical moments of totality during Monday’s solar eclipse? Or did clouds swoop in to block your view? Maybe you just couldn’t make it to the path of totality this time. No matter what, the question now is “ Where and when will it happen again?”

“People who have never seen it before, the first words out of their mouth after the totality ends is ‘I’ve got to see another one, this is incredible, this is unbelievable.’ That is when you become addicted to these things and end up traveling no matter where the next one is,” said Joseph Rao, an eclipse chaser and guest lecturer at the Hayden Planetarium.

So, if like Mr. Rao, you’ve developed a raging case of umbraphilia — the love of eclipses — you’ll have three chances over the next four years to see the moon blot out the sun. The first, on Aug. 12, 2026, will start above Greenland, then strafe the west coast of Iceland and move along the Atlantic Ocean and over Spain. Almost a year later, on Aug. 2, 2027, another will skirt the Mediterranean coast of North Africa then cross Egypt and part of the Arabian Peninsula. The third, on July 22, 2028, will cut across Australia and the southern tip of New Zealand.

Future Eclipses

Eclipse chasers will have several more chances this decade to view a total solar eclipse .

Last week, as Victoria Sahami , the owner of Sirius Travel , was preparing to guide a group of tourists in Mazatlán, Mexico, for Monday’s big event, she was also planning for these other upcoming eclipses. Ms. Sahami joined the ranks of the eclipse-obsessed when she witnessed one in Venezuela in the 1990s. “Like many people, I was hooked. There was no going back,” she said.

Total solar eclipses happen fairly regularly — about every one to two years — in locations scattered around the world. “That’s the great thing about them: You wind up in places that you don’t normally go,” Ms. Sahami said.

A major spoiler is weather, which will be a big variable in the 2026 eclipse — one Greenland, Iceland and Spain will see.

“Iceland normally has a lot of cloud during that time of year,” said Paul Maley , who runs Ring of Fire Expeditions . “The data shows Spain to have the higher good-weather prospects of all three. However, the sun is low in the sky and the eclipse ends as the sun hits the horizon at sunset.”

Because of Iceland’s mercurial meteorology, Ring of Fire Expeditions is going all in on Spain, with a 10-day excursion on the mainland. Sirius Travel is offering not only a five-day trip to Majorca but also an eight-day tour around Iceland. It will be based in Reykjavik, and the itinerary will remain flexible on the day of the eclipse so the tour can easily pivot toward the location with the least cloud cover. Ms. Sahami recommends the trip for those who already have a few eclipses under their belt and would be happy just to take in the sights of Iceland if the weather doesn’t cooperate.

The 2027 eclipse, on the other hand, promises to be truly stellar: Luxor, Egypt — the site of numerous ancient temples as well as the Valleys of the Kings and Queens — sits right in the middle of the path of totality and will be bathed in darkness for a full 6 minutes 23 seconds. Weather-wise, it is what Ms. Sahami called “a slam dunk.” “You know you’re going to see it. You know that you’re not going to get any clouds,” she said.

But for all its potential, those considering Egypt should be aware that the State Department has a Level 3 “Reconsider Travel” warning for the country because of the risk of terrorism.

The 2028 eclipse will darken the skies over Sydney, Australia, for 3 minutes 49 seconds. It will be the first time the city has experienced a total solar eclipse since 1857. Ms. Sahami has her eyes on a trip based out of there, while Mr. Maley has chartered a cruise ship off the northwest coast of Australia. It will be winter there, he said, but that isn’t likely to mean bad eclipse-viewing weather.

If you want to see any (or all) of these eclipses, you should get started on planning and booking now, particularly if you want to sign up for a trip organized by a tour company. One of Sirius Travel’s excursions to Luxor is already full.

Scrutinize refund policies and look into insuring your trip. Several companies will fully refund your deposit if you cancel a year in advance. A lot can happen, Ms. Sahami said, “but if you think you’re going to go, why not?”
