Day Trip Festival Announces June Return to the Queen Mary with Enhanced Festival Experience

trip fest

Returning for its second year to the Queen Mary Waterfront, just south of Los Angeles, Day Trip Festival is set to make waves across Southern California this June 24-25, 2023. For two days, headliners will dance under the sun and soak up the fresh open air during the region’s premier house music festival.

For the first time in three years, marking a historical moment for the city of Long Beach and the famed ocean liner, the Queen Mary will reopen for overnight hotel stays during Day Trip Festival . In partnership with Vibee , festival goers may purchase weekend travel packages, complete with on-board cabin accommodations and access to pre-parties and after-parties taking place aboard the ship.

Although Day Trip Festival is now in its third year, the announcement of its return to Southern California comes at a peak in the cultural relevance of the house music genre, as a result of recent major albums from Drake, Beyonce and more.

trip fest

Two-day tickets to Day Trip LA, as well as travel packages on board the Queen Mary so attendees never have to leave the party are on sale at daytripfest.com this week. Fans can sign up online for the Day Trip Family presale, receiving first access to tickets this Thursday, March 2. Tickets will become publicly available this Friday, March 3 at 12 p.m. PT.

Most important to Insomniac and Day Trip is the fan experience. Fueled by the feedback during last year’s sold out debut at the Queen Mary waterfront, the festival has made significant experiential and operational improvements for fans to more comfortably enjoy their time on the Day Trip dance floor.

Festival goers that book weekend accommodations on board the Queen Mary will be able to travel to and from their rooms throughout the festival, while VIP ticket holders will have access on board to explore the ship.

The VIP festival experience will also debut a new, elevated viewing deck and have Espresso Martinis available on tap. Fans can also expect additional shade structures, providing cooler places to relax throughout the day, along with an increase in the size of the dance floor at the High Tide stage. Tickets to the after-parties on the Queen Mary rooftop deck will also be available for purchase to all attendees.

Day Trip Festival has also partnered with the city to arrange for pre-paid parking spaces in the Downtown Long Beach area. Fans are encouraged to secure their spot in advance, which will allow for a quick and seamless parking experience with guaranteed space in the lot of their choice.

Day Trip was created in the summer of 2018 with a simple premise: House Music All Day Long! Its open-air day parties on the patio of Academy LA in Hollywood have since become a tradition for house heads of all kinds, as the packed crowds dance past sunset to the best veteran and upcoming house DJs, sipping Day Trip’s signature fishbowls among tropical decor and palm trees.

In 2021, Day Trip upped the ante with the inaugural Day Trip Festival , a two-day, two-stage gathering in Southern California. Its nocturnal counterpart, Night Trip , also takes the same house music love to the clubs until the late hours. Now, Day Trip Festival is in year three, promising the best festival experience to date.

As a curator and authority of house music, Day Trip Festival has previously showcased some of the best tastemakers of the genre. Fisher , MK , John Summit , Lane 8 , Artbat , Diplo , Chris Lorenzo , Meduza , Sofi Tukker , and LP Giobbi , among many others.

“Inside our brewery, the largest word written on the wall is ‘community,’ and we’re pretty serious about it,” said Brian Hendon, president and co-founder of San Juan Capistrano’s Docent Brewing, during a recent phone interview.

“A lot of times, people say things, and it’s hard to know if they are true, but trust me, this is what we do everything for. It’s always about the community,” he continued.

This commitment to the community lies at the heart of Docent Brewing, a sentiment that resonates deeply as they gear up to celebrate its 7th anniversary with Field Trip Fest . The festival, set to take place at Rancho Riding Park in San Juan Capistrano on Saturday, March 30, will offer attendees a vibrant blend of folk music and brews.

Docent Brewing began its journey in 2017 and introduced its inaugural Field Trip Fest in 2019 to mark its second anniversary that March. The festival’s name stems from the team’s decision to christen their beer cans ‘field trips’ at the brewery as a playful nod to embracing adventure and exploration outdoors, fostering a connection with childlike wonder. This year, the tradition continues as cans retain the same name, offering fans a familiar experience to enjoy.

The single-day fest will debut at a new location this year, just a stone’s throw from its previous spot. Nestled on the opposite side of the creek from its former home at Reata Park , the larger outdoor space was a strategic move, Hendon shared, as the team wanted to keep the fun in the same vicinity, but just with more space.

Despite the festival’s significant expansion since its reinstatement post the COVID-19 pandemic in 2022, Hendon said that its core objective remains unchanged: to commemorate and celebrate Docent Brewing’s anniversary each year, coincidentally accompanied by a star-studded lineup of folk acts.

The music and craft beer festival will include two stages with performances by alt-country rocker Nikki Lane and singer-songwriter Donavon Frankenreiter , along with performances by Alabama folk outlaw Early James, Orange County rockers Robert Jon & The Wreck , Eric Roebuck, Leroy From The North and Alice Wallace .

“When we first created Field Trip Fest, the initial goal was to create a folk festival, but I personally didn’t think we had many in Southern California,” Hendon said. “I’m originally from West Virginia, and there’s some really great rootsy and folk festivals in Colorado and back east and the Appalachian Mountains, (so we’re) bringing that energy over here. It’s also important for us to bring local acts to the stage, and fans seem to appreciate that sense of community in music.”

Hendon is equally excited about the festival’s Volkswagen bus show produced by the South County Bus Society, where folks can browse through 80 classic Volkswagen buses as well as a handful of eclectic cars.

There will be more than 40 local breweries in attendance, offering those 21-and-older samples of a variety of brews from 1-4:30 p.m. Adding to the culinary list, Heritage BBQ , renowned as one of South Orange County’s premier eateries, will be on the grounds.

As Field Trip Fest commemorates another anniversary, it also honors the inauguration of Docent Brewing’s third brewery in Corona Del Mar, alongside its latest establishment in San Clemente. While expansion is on the horizon, Hendon remains steadfast in his desire for the festival to uphold the values of community, friendship and good music that have defined Field Trip Fest and continue to shape its legacy.

“When we first started, it was just us inviting our closest friends, whether it came to breweries or musicians we knew, and that’s how it’s kind of always stayed. It’s the core of who we are.”

Field Trip Fest will celebrate community, beer and folk music in San Juan Capistrano

Mammoth review: wistfully hilarious trip back to the boorish and misogynistic 1970s

Television: mike bubbins’s creation is a giggle-fest that pokes fun at the decade that political correctness forgot.

Ed Power's face

If television has taught us anything, it is the 1970s were the funniest decade of all time. It was the era of mandatory creaking leather jackets, fluffy dice the size of your clenched fist, and workplace sexism – all soundtracked by disco, funk, and David Bowie. Who could resist?

Not Mike Bubbins, writer and star of the wistfully hilarious and often very weird Mammoth (Wednesday, BBC2, 10pm) – a sitcom about a PE teacher buried in ice in 1979 who returns to his old job after a 45-year hiatus. He discovers times have changed, and that chatting up the mums at the parent-teacher meeting is no longer acceptable. Especially if you are doing so while chugging a home-made piña colada.

This is one of those comedies that orbits a single gag – the zinger being that the 1970s were rampantly boorish and misogynistic and that poor Tony Mammoth cannot get his head around how much the world has changed. It’s a good joke. Or at least Bubbins makes it work through sheer commitment to the idea that few things are funnier than a middle-aged man in cocooned in corduroy swaggering around to groovelicious tunes.

Revived in the present day, Mammoth heads straight to his local boozer. He is shocked to learn his old drinking buddies are now in their 80s and no longer up for all-day benders (he is still capable of chugging a pint in 30 seconds).

Extreme male grooming: Why are young men embracing damaging beauty ideals?

Meanwhile, at school, he’s putting the kids through their paces. He soon dispenses with such namby-pamby concepts as workplace safety and encourages the children to thump lumps out of one another. “Badminton?,” Mammoth exclaims. “It’s a PE lesson, not a holiday at Pontins!”.

Still, a comedy cannot live on jokes about workplace sexism alone, and Mammoth has a human interest angle in the shape of Siân Gibson, who plays Mel Jones – one of the many mums exasperated by Mammoth’s elephantine boorishness.

The twist is that she turns out to have been the daughter he never knew who had – the result of one final canoodle in a ski chalet before that avalanche that swallowed him whole all those decades previously.

She is obviously not at all impressed. Then who would be upon discovering the father they believed long dead is actually a sexist bloke with a walrus moustache and a dress sense halfway between Studio 54 and The Sweeney?

Yet their conflict is folded deftly into the overarching sweetness of Mammoth, a giggle-fest that pokes fun at the decade that political correctness forgot and which flogs that gag half to death while somehow continuing to engage with the audience’s funny bone.

If you find the idea of a Ford Capris with a copper bronze finish innately hilarious, this is the comedy you’ve been waiting for since 1979.

Kristen Stewart continues her 2024 indie reign following the Sundance premieres of “Love Lies Bleeding” and “Love Me.”

Now, Stewart has a supporting role in “ Sacramento ,” directed by “Minx” star Michael Angarano, his second feature behind the camera after 2017’s “Avenues.” The road trip buddy comedy premieres at the 2024 Tribeca Festival in the U.S. Narrative Competition alongside Morrisa Maltz’s “The Unknown Country” follow-up “Jazzy,” Mark Duplass-produced “The Knife,” and more.

The official logline reads: “When free-spirited Ricky suddenly reappears in father-to-be Glenn’s life, the two former best friends embark on a spontaneous road trip from LA to Sacramento in Michael Angarano’s original take on the buddy comedy.”

Actor/director Angarano co-wrote the script with Chris Smith, with the duo also producing along with Stephen Braun, Chris Abernathy, and Eric Fleischman.

Angarano is not the only actor-turned-filmmaker behind “Sacramento”: Stewart is still prepping her directorial debut with the adaptation of Lidia Yuknavitch’s memoir “Chronology of Water.” Stewart has been  attached to direct the film since 2018  and co-wrote the script with Andy Mingo. Imogen Poots is confirmed to lead the feature. Stewart recently  told IndieWire’s Anne Thompson  that taking on her own directorial project with “The Chronology of Water” has been a “body-ripping” and “overwhelming” experience. She is also set to pen a stoner comedy.

“Sacramento” premieres at the 2024 Tribeca Festival and is currently seeking distribution.

Travis Kelce Gives Taylor Swift a Sweet Lift in New Video from Their Coachella Date Night

The couple was been spotted enjoying performances from Bleachers, Ice Spice and more artists in Indio, Calif. for the festival's first weekend

Travis Kelce brought Taylor Swift  to new heights during their Coachella outing — literally.

On April 13, the couple, both 34, were spotted by fans in the crowd of DJ Dom Dolla's set at the music festival. Countless photos and videos of their night out in Indio, Calif., have hit the internet — including a clip of Kelce lifting Swift up into the air to look over the crowd.

In the viral clip — captured by a concertgoer on TikTok and shared to X (formerly Twitter) — the Anti-Hero singer and Kansas City Chiefs tight end can be seen chatting and standing close together during the house music set, accompanied by friends. In one moment, Kelce seems to effortlessly hoist his girlfriend up into the air as she holds a drink in one hand.

"Stop he’s doing it so effortlessly," one fan commented on X. "i’m in shock."

Some have likened the moment to the iconic first scene in animated Disney classic The Lion King , in which Rafiki lifts baby Simba skyward.

The couple have had a busy first weekend of Coachella. Also on April 13, the pair was seen hanging out with Sabrina Carpenter  — who opened for her on the most recent leg of the Eras Tour — and Saltburn actor Barry Keoghan . A video  taken of the group shows Swift holding court as they meet fans and are introduced to their fellow concertgoers.

In another TikTok clip posted by actress Sissy Sheridan, the group of four can be seen dancing and singing along to Swift's hit song “Karma”  as rapper  Ice Spice , who was featured on a remix of the track, performed it onstage during her own set.

In the clip, Carpenter and Keoghan, who first sparked dating rumors in late 2023, stood right in front of the couple, watching on as the rapper performed.

Swift also made headlines when she linked up with Real Housewives of New Jersey star   Teresa Giudice to pose for a photo.

Sharing the pic on Instagram on April 14, the RHONJ star's husband  Luis “Louie” Ruelas celebrated the interaction between his wife, 51, and the pop star, calling them both "absolute QUEENS."

"Two absolute QUEENS, Taylor Swift and my stunning wife," he captioned the photo, adding a selection of hashtags, including, "#GirlPower," "#Queens," "#Blessed" and "#Coachella."

Swift was also spotted at the festival showing her support for her boyfriend by wearing a baseball cap promoting New Heights , the podcast he hosts with his brother  and former NFL player Jason Kelce .

Swift and Kelce, who began dating in September , have been keeping a relatively low profile while Swift is on break from the Eras Tour and Kelce is gearing up to host  Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?

They have been spotted out on a few dates in Los Angeles over the past few weeks, and took  a trip to the Bahamas in March . A source told PEOPLE at the time that the trip was a “ much-needed break  for the both of them.”
