Virgin Money Policy Wording

There is no "best" travel insurance—the best for you will depend on factors like price points and features that you might find valuable. Please use the information in this review to help you narrow your choices.

Virgin Money Travel Insurance Review: What You Need to Know

Virgin Money offers a series of holiday cover plans for reasonable prices, to suit those wanting a budget plan with just £1,500 of Cancellation and £1,000 of Baggage all the way up to those with more luxury holidays needing up to £7,500 for Cancellation and £3,000 of Baggage cover per person.

The cheapest Virgin Money travel insurance is the "Economy" plan, which is only available through comparison sites . The top-tier plan is the "Gold" plan, and this is only available directly from Virgin Money. Here's a high-level overview of their plans:

What's included?

Trip Cancellation, Emergency Medical, Legal Assistance, Personal Accident and Personal Belongings/Baggage are included on all policies—as is Scheduled Airline Failure . But end supplier failure is only on Premium and Gold plans (the top tier from comparison sites and direct).

Even the lowest tier plan includes some Missed Departure and Baggage Delay cover. However, there's no protection against natural disasters such as tsunamis, earthquakes, landslides, volcanic eruptions (including volcanic ash clouds), hurricanes, etc.

Like many other travel cover plans, kids basically go free (up to 3 children under the age of 18, per insured adult).

For those heading to the slopes, Winter Sports is optional now (they used to include it on annual plans). In terms of other travel insurance add-ons , cruise-specific cover is not an option on Virgin Money travel insurance, so if you're going on a cruise you may want to consider other holiday cover providers for access to features like Cabin Confinement, Unused Excursions and Missed Port.

Pre-Existing Conditions: As part of the online application you'll be asked a series of brief medical questions. If you have a medical condition, Virgin Money may be able to offer cover for some pre-existing medical conditions , for which you'll probably be required to pay a higher premium. Pre-existing conditions are only covered if they've been fully declared, accepted and paid for.

Covid: Virgin offers pretty good Covid benefits. Here's a sample of what's covered, extending Cancellation and Curtailment cover.

Cancellation:

  • You, Your Relative, a member of Your household or travelling companion or a friend with whom You had arranged to stay has a diagnosis of COVID-19 within 14 days of Your booked departure date, as certified by a Medical Practitioner following a medically approved test showing a positive result for COVID-19.
  • You being denied boarding on Your prebooked outbound travel due to You contracting COVID-19, as certified by a Medical Practitioner following a medically approved test showing a positive result for COVID-19 or having a confirmed temperature above 38 degrees Celsius.

Curtailment:

  • Death of Your Relative or a member of Your household living in the United Kingdom contracting COVID-19, as certified by a Medical Practitioner following a medically approved test showing a positive result for COVID-19 or having a confirmed temperature above 38 degrees Celsius.
  • The hospitalisation as a result of COVID-19 for treatment with mechanical ventilation, of Your Relative or a member of Your household living in the United Kingdom.

How do Virgin Money Travel Insurance Prices Compare?

Virgin Money travel insurance premiums are in line with market averages. Only Virgin's top-tier Black plans cost more than the average cost of holiday cover (shown by yellow bars in the charts below), whether you're travelling to geographies like Europe or America . Given that Baggage and Travel Delay are covered on all plans, we think Virgin Money offers solid value for money.

However, insurance quotes can vary significantly from day to day and according to each individual's details, so please just use this data for general educational purposes only about the travel insurance market; your quotes may reflect a large degree of variation.

Buying Direct vs Using a Comparison Site

There are two ways to buy a Virgin Money travel insurance policy: direct from Virgin Money or via a comparison site like MoneySuperMarket. Broadly speaking, the cheapest plan is Economy, which is only available from comparison sites; the plan with the highest cover is the Gold plan, only available from Virgin Money direct.

There are pros and cons to both sources in terms of features and price points. We'll try to explain the differences to help you understand whether buying direct or through an aggregator (e.g., a comparison site) better suits your individual needs.

If the lower limits of the Economy or Standard plan are good enough for your needs then you can probably save money buying through the comparison site because our research revealed that the cost of Virgin Money's "cheapest" cover from each source can easily be 40% to 50% cheaper when buying through the comparison site —that is, Economy plans are consistently cheaper than Red plans.

Benefits of Buying via Comparison Site

If you're after a budget travel insurance plan, the cheapest holiday cover from Virgin Money is the Essential Plus plan, which is available only on comparison sites. Depending on details like geographic cover, you'll probably find cheaper plans on comparison site, but for a given level of cancellation cover, you might get higher limits in some other areas. For example, Red (direct) has £3,000 of cancellation as does Premium (comparison site), but Premium has higher limits for emergency medical, personal accident, personal possessions, financial failure, missed departure and more. But Red has higher travel delay benefits. And the excess is twice as much on the Premium plan. Also, direct plans include some level of gadget cover (and you can buy more), but comparison site plans only cover gadgets if you buy the add on. So there are trade offs.

Types of Virgin Money Travel Insurance Policies

Virgin Money offers five tiers of travel insurance—Economy, Standard, Premium, Red, Silver and Gold. The first three (Economy, Standard, Premium) can be purchased on a comparison site; Red, Silver and Gold are available direct from Virgin Money. All policies include Emergency Medical, Baggage and Cancellation/Curtailment.

Winter Sports cover can be added to Single Trip plans for an additional cost but is INCLUDED in Annual, Multi-Trip plans.

The upper age limits vary depending on whether you buy direct or through an aggregator site. Plans bought from comparison sites have lower upper age limits, so people in their 70s or above may have better success buying direct.

Age Limits When You Take Out a Virgin Money Travel Insurance Policy

While you can take as many trips as you want each year with a Virgin Money Annual, Multi-Trip policy, there are limits on trip length, depending on your age.

Virgin Money Trip Lengths for Annual Policies Vary According to Policy Type

  • Economy: 31 days
  • Standard: 31 days
  • Premium: 45 days
  • Red: 31 days
  • Silver: 45 days
  • Gold: 94 days

Single trips are limited to 90 days, unless agreed by them in writing.

Cover Limits

Here is a quick, high-level recap of what's on offer from comparison sites and direct:

For further information, please review the policy documents. If you would like us to go into more depth here, please let us know in the comments section at the bottom of this review!

Gadget and Valuables Extension:

Direct plans receive some level of gadget cover (e.g. for loss up to £500 for Red and Silver and £750 for Gold); plans bought from a comparison site don't include gadget as standard. But prior to leaving your home area, if you pay the appropriate extra premium Virgin Money can extend your cover to:

Unauthorised usage is limited to £1,000 for all options.

Notable Features

Here are some highlights of features available on Virgin Money travel insurance policies. Standard features like Medical and Personal Liability are also included on Virgin Money policies, limits for which can be found below in the Policy Limits section . For more complete details like inner limits and exclusions, please refer to the policy documents .

Bottom Line: We like that all Virgin Money plans include Baggage, which is the most common reason to claim on holiday cover. A range of reasonably-priced plans mean there's cover for a variety of customer profiles, from those heading on a cheap and cheerful holiday in the sun to those who have more at risk for a premium holiday.

Closing account letter again

Once again letters regarding closing account because not accessed. Only two options exist for a non resident UK ISA, close or do nothing. I cannot visit online (UK only) or use a prepaid envelope (UK only) or visit a store. Last time this happened Virgin paid 65 GBP compensation because of costs incurred with assurances this would not happen again. BTW the virgin money online complaint form doesn't work, only accepts UK phone numbers and postcodes.

Not worth the paper it’s printed on.

Travel insurance which has so many caveats that you are unable to make a claim for anything. They did everything they could to say why they didn’t need to compensate for my cancelled flights and delays, rather than trying to help. It has been a longwinded and stressful waste of time. Do not buy travel insurance from Virgin.

So difficult to make a gadget claim..gave up in the end

Tried to claim on portal. After various instructions from webchat which didn't work. Called help line they gave me a number to call. Called that number they gave another number to call. Got a link for a form to complete. Ridiculously stupid amount of paperwork needed. Some items I didn't have like utility bill as I'm 18 and live with parents. Luckily I was insured under nationwide home policy. Called up after 10min call new phone comes in 3 days. Will never use virgin again.

Waste of money taking this insurance

I was informed that my flight was cancelled after reaching airport and airlines couldn't provide alternative flights within 36 hours. When I contacted airlines for the expenses I incurred, they told me that only travel insurance company will pay. There was no way to call this insurer and I could submit my claim online only with all the receipts, screenshots etc. They had come back after one month saying that they will not cover anything for expenses incurred due to flight cancellation. Every time I reply back, they take about 2 weeks to respond. At the end, I didn't get a single penny back inspite of taking this insurance. It would have been better off not taking this insurance at all

Statement received was £10,000 short

Statement received was £10,000 short. Spent all forenoon trying to sort it, couldn't get through to anyone. Just a very inefficient company.

Travel insurance which does not cover

Travel insurance I took out clearly states nill excess for dental emergency on the policy. However, when I put my unfortunate claim through, the 3rd party insurer replied and used excess for other medical excess saying they are not liable for the cost. I looked up the policy again, only to see nill excess for dental emergency. Upon writing back asking for a full refund as the contract is breached and handing of the claim is very unprofessional, I received a reply saying I am correct that no excess. 2 weeks later, I receive another email saying they cannot pay my claim as not over excess. I fully not recommend Virgin Money Insurance for Travel. I hear Stayaure is very good in such handling so find a better insurance.

Avoid Virgin Travel at all Costs.

I had a serious accident whilst on holiday, which wasn’t my fault. I sustained a broken femur. Virgin Travel Insurance were informed within 20 minutes of arriving in hospital. It took them 8 days to tell me they weren’t going to pay out. The call centre is a joke and their emails are illiterate. Avoid this absolute disgrace of a company at all costs.

Had to pay hospital bill in the USA…

Had to pay hospital bill in the USA December still no money back will never yous this company again . What's the point of haveing travel insurance if there don't pay medical bill

Terrible customer service

Terrible customer service. Even renewing took ages and had to answer every question again. Lost patience when wanting to add winter cover, and have now cancelled. Awful.

Had travel insurance and had to add new…

Had travel insurance and had to add new medical condition on to policy. Took 1.5 hrs hanging on the phone before answered. Then going to charge an extra £83 to add the condition.. it was annual policy so asked for pro rata money back and went with another company who charged £28 for the medical condition to be added . All told 2hrs on phone

I would take your money elsewhere

I would take your money elsewhere. Reading these reviews I only wish I had read them before trying to invest in an isa. I set up an online profile to open an isa. It constantly kept rejecting my password. After numerous attempts to get logged back in and 3 password changes later it told me I couldn’t open an ISA and to call them. Their lines close at 6pm. This morning I just spoke to the most horrendous female virgin money rep. She actually accused me of screaming at her when I didn’t raise my voice once. She was useless and far from helpful. She clearly just couldn’t be bothered to help or was not equipped to. Terrible experience trying to open a simple ISA and owing to the rude incompetent woman this morning I have closed my online profile and will take my investment elsewhere. Terrible experience. No wonder your reviews are so bad.

Date of experience : 27 February 2024

Well yet another month has passed and…

Well yet another month has passed and nothing from virgin money about the insurance policy for my holiday cancellation due to Covid. Gallager Bassett who handle their claims are hopeless and still not responding to calls or emails asking for an update on the claim. Why would a company as big as Virgin continue to use a company who are clearly not up to the task. This can not be doing Virgin's reputation any good or maybe they don't care once they get the money from you. Very disappointed.

Date of experience : 05 October 2023

Terrible service

Terrible, all outsourced to CSAL who are apparently massively understaffed per my conversations with claims handlers and the mammoth waiting times on hold. Literally feel your life passing by constantly chasing. Whilst they help themes to incredibly long response times. Suspect all aimed at people losing the will and giving up on the claim itself. That or at least deferring payment as long as they possibly can to maximise their profits. Avoid

Date of experience : 31 July 2023

AVOID at all costs

AVOID at all costs. I wish I’d seen these reviews before attempting to open a Business Account Fixed Term Deposit; well I’m a Month in and it still isn’t opened. My money has gone into their ‘holding’ account while I earn no interest on it at all: My advice is don’t go near this company; I want out.

Date of experience : 06 February 2024

Not deserving even 1 star

Not deserving even 1 star. DO NOT FALL FOR VIRGIN BUSINESS CURRENT ACCOUNT!! Horrific experience from start to finish. Staff is incompetent and they lie on a daily basis. No comms no updates! AVOID

So bad I thought I'd bought scam insurance

Agree with other negative reviews on this site, after our baggage being lost for nearly 3 days on a trip to Paris, we claimed for some essential items and the claim just sat, and sat, and sat with no response. Complete cut and dried case, all the correct paperwork, just nothing happened. Tried contacting them by various means for weeks, completely unresponsive, almost scam-worthy

Date of experience : 16 November 2023

This travel insurance is worthless

This travel insurance isn’t worth anything in fact it should be classed as a scam. We had our flight cancelled back in August we have sent them all the details a short response giving you a claim number. Many many emails later no response to any of them avoid this insurance at all costs we had the silver annual package totally disgusted by the none existent communication.

Date of experience : 26 August 2023

I was taken ill on holiday. Eventually had some money back ( 6 months later), but no where near my legitimate claim. Every excuse not to pay was used. Virgin should be renamed Dick Turpin insurance. Your claim ends up being looked at by a different company who I am sure are on commission for what they save Virgin. Avoid at all cost! Scandalous way to treat people.

Date of experience : 10 May 2023

Holiday cancellation

Unfortunately we had to cancel our holiday due to a bereavement. I submitted all our evidence onto the online portal 3 months ago and today I have received confirmation that my claim has gone through. The money to cover our holiday is in now my bank this afternoon, I have given this a 4 star as I do think the communication could be better, it’s very impersonal dealing with an inbox and portal and not being able to deal with anyone direct. It would have been helpful to have understood how the claim process worked. When I read the reviews on here I started to doubt the company. Anyone submitting a claim you just need to be patient and let the case handlers do their work. This holiday insurance provided the cover we needed at this unfortunate time.

Date of experience : 10 January 2024

Poor customer service. I had an accident in September in…

I had an accident in September in majorica it took multiple phone calls because line kept cutting off. Eventually I got through and gave details to all questions. Got home but cannot get anyone to answer my emails about my claim after multiple emails. No one answers phone you can be on hold for one hour . Unfortunately I have a yearly policy so not hopefully I will ever get my £150 medical fees back.

Virgin Money offers complimentary insurance on Virgin Australia Velocity High Flyer and Flyer credit cards, including complimentary international travel insurance on the Velocity High Flyer.

These policies are underwritten by Allianz Global Assistance (Allianz) and there are different conditions to get cover and make claims. That's why it's always best to read insurance policy documents. But if you just want an overview, here we have pulled out the key details for this cover.

Have a question or need to make a claim now? Call Allianz on 1800 072 791 (Australia) or +61 7 3305 7499 (overseas).

The Velocity High Flyer and Flyer credit cards offer different types of complimentary insurance. Here's a summary of what you can get with each card.

This insurance includes emergency medical cover, luggage and some cancellations. The actual cover you get is broken down into "benefits" based on what you can and can't claim. For some claims, you'll need to pay an excess before you'll get any money back if it's approved.

Here, we've broken down the key options for different types of benefits, with basic examples of when you might make a claim. But remember: you should always read the insurance policy booklet for complete details of the cover.

Medical, dental and emergencies cover

Cancellation, delays and transport, luggage and personal items cover, death, funerals and personal liability.

All insurance policies have details of when you will and won't get cover, so check the insurance booklet before you book a trip or make a claim. With Virgin Money credit card complimentary international travel insurance, some of the key situations that aren't covered include:

  • If you don't follow advice from any government, official body or mass media announcements
  • If the purpose of your trip includes getting medical treatment
  • Participation in criminal or illegal acts
  • Acts of war
  • Dangerous activities, including rock climbing, white water rafting, bungee jumping, skydiving, water skiing, off-piste snow skiing or snowboarding, or for any professional sports

These are only a few examples of when you won't get cover under this policy. Check the Virgin Money credit card insurance policy booklet or call Allianz on 1800 072 791 for more details about the exclusions.

Does Virgin Money credit card international travel insurance cover COVID-19?

Yes, for claims made on or after 1 November 2023 there is some cover related to COVID-19. This includes:

  • Overseas emergency assistance
  • Overseas emergency medical
  • Cancellation
  • Additional expenses

To make a claim, you need to be positively diagnosed with COVID-19 (or another pandemic/epidemic disease) and meet all the other requirements for a claim. This also extends to an eligible spouse or dependants travelling with you – but won’t apply if you’re travelling against government advice. As there are lots of conditions to meet for this type of cover, make sure you read the policy booklet or call Allianz on 1800 072 791 before you travel.

If you need cover for a skiing trip, bungee jumping or other overseas adventures, check out adventure sport travel insurance costs and conditions.

If you're planning a trip and want cover through your Virgin Money credit card, you'll need to meet the following requirements:

  • Spend at least $500 on your prepaid travel costs using your Virgin Money Velocity High Flyer Card.
  • Use Velocity Points to book your overseas travel ticket.
  • Redeem a Virgin Australia Gift Voucher for the overseas travel ticket.
  • Length of travel. This cover is available if your trip is for 6 consecutive months or less.
  • Account status. You need to have an active, eligible Virgin Money credit card in your name at the time of your booking.

Does Virgin Money credit card travel insurance cover family members?

Yes, your spouse and eligible dependants (i.e. your children) can also get cover when you meet the eligibility requirements for international travel insurance. For them, the key requirements to get cover are:

  • They need to be an Australian resident or a holder of a visa issued under the Migration Act 1958 (Cth)
  • They need to travel with you for at least 50% of the trip that you've got cover for
  • They need to have a return overseas travel ticket before leaving Australia
  • They need to be under 81 years of age at the time they became eligible for the cover

They also need to meet the other conditions of the insurance policy. Keep in mind that some claims have different limits for a spouse or dependants compared to what you (as the primary cardholder) get.

A pre-existing medical condition can affect your travel insurance cover and usually refers to health conditions you've recently been treated for or manage on an ongoing basis.

With Virgin Money's complimentary international travel insurance, you can only get cover for a pre-existing medical condition if you apply and get written confirmation from Allianz Global Assistance.

You can do this online or by calling Allianz on 1800 072 791 before you go overseas. If your request is approved, you’ll need to pay a $75 administration fee and will then be sent written confirmation that your pre-existing condition is covered.

Pregnancy cover

This policy offers limited cover for pregnancies, but the amount and type of cover varies.

For example, if you become pregnant after booking your trip and meeting the eligibility requirements for this cover, you’ll be able to get cover for any complications of your pregnancy that arise from injury or sickness.

There is no cover for childbirth, except if it is the result of injury or sickness. If you are pregnant or planning for pregnancy, make sure you check the insurance policy or contact Allianz directly for full details on cover.

First, contact Allianz as soon as anything happens by calling +617 3305 7499 from overseas or 1800 072 791 from Australia. They will be able to advise you on the claim or claims you want to make at the time.

You can then submit a claim online by following these steps:

  • Go to the Allianz online claim portal at https://claimmanager.com.au/aga/agreement
  • Confirm you agree with the terms and conditions, then click "Create new claim"
  • Select the "Credit card insurance" option and provide details of your card
  • Fill in the details on the claim form and upload your supporting documentation

You will hear back about your claim within 10 business days.

What to include in your claim

With insurance claims, including as much detail as possible makes it easier for the insurer to consider the claim and your eligibility for a payout.

So when you're travelling with this cover, aim to get as much written or photo evidence as you can for any claims you need to make. This could include:

  • A referral or letter from a doctor or other professional you see in relation to a claim
  • Official medical reports
  • Police reports
  • Photos of damaged items
  • Emails or letters from airlines that relate to a claim
  • Receipts or other proof of purchase

Tip: Use a travel wallet or create an online folder to keep all your important documents together. This could include your passport, itinerary, printed tickets, a copy of the Virgin Money card insurance policy booklet – plus anything that could become supporting documentation for future claims.

Domestic travel insurance

  • What is it? Cover for specific issues that come up when you're travelling to a different state or territory in Australia. This can include costs relating to cancelled return flights, flight delays of 4 hours or more and delayed or lost luggage.
  • When can I use it? You'll get cover for up to 28 days in a row if you have paid for the entire trip with your Virgin Australia Velocity High Flyer credit card, Velocity Points, a Virgin Australia Gift Voucher or a combination of these options. Your spouse and any dependants can also get cover if you use the same payment method for their return travel of 28 days or less and they will be with you for at least half the trip.
  • Is there an excess cost? There is a $75 excess for claims that relate to additional expenses. There are no excess costs for other claims but there are maximum claim amounts, which vary depending on the type of claim.

Rental vehicle excess insurance in Australia

  • What is it? Cover for damage or theft of a hire car, up to a maximum total of $10,000.
  • When can I use it? When you’ve used your eligible Virgin Money credit card to pay for the full cost of the car hire.
  • Is there an excess cost? $100 per claim.

To make a claim under one of these policies, download a claim form online at https://claims.agaassistance.com.au/ or call Allianz on 1800 072 791.

Virgin Money credit cards give you access to other types of insurance, which are also provided by Allianz. Here’s a basic explainer of each one:

  • Purchase protection insurance: Offers cover for up to 90 days when you purchase new items with your eligible Virgin Money credit card and they are then stolen, accidentally damaged or lost. It covers household and personal items such as shoes, jewellery, glasses and new works of art.
  • Extended warranty insurance: This cover doubles a manufacturer's warranty, up to a maximum period of 12 months, for eligible items bought with your card in Australia.

Two questions. I am planning on an overseas trip beginning in February 2024 with my companion , paid in full with my Virgin Credit Card , is she covered by my Card

Avatar

Hi Anthony, Yes, if your companion is considered as your spouse, they would get access to this cover when you meet the eligibility requirements. Here’s the definition of “spouse” in the policy document booklet: “a partner of the cardholder who is permanently living with the cardholder at the time the journey or trip starts”. If you have further questions about eligibility for cover or any other details of the insurance, you can contact Allianz (the insurance provider) 1800 072 791. I hope this helps.

I have a High Flyer Card and have booked a one-way cruise ship trip. We used our Velicity points to book the flights to the embarkation port (Hawaii). Does my High Flyer Card complementary insurance cover us fully on the cruise ship?

Hi Steve, You can check your eligibility and cover with the insurance provider, Allianz, by calling 1800 072 791. For reference, booking an overseas travel ticket with Velocity Points is listed as an option in the eligibility section of the insurance policy document. But there are other requirements and details about cruises so it’s a good idea to double-check with the insurer. I hope this helps.

I have purchased an overseas holiday with full payment being made through a travel company. The travel company has made the flight bookings on our behalf so I need to know if the travel insurance on my credit card will provide my wife and I with cover

Hi Tony, According to the terms and conditions, if you have a current, valid Virgin Australia High Flyer credit card, “charging the cost of the overseas travel ticket to the account holder’s card account” is one way to get cover for a trip of up to 6 months. As there are other eligibility requirements and conditions around pre-existing conditions, you may want to call the insurance provider, Allianz, on 1800 072 791 for full details of the cover. I hope this helps.

I do not know what type my Velocity credit card is, and I am 81 years old, so can I get travel insurance on it?

Hi Wendy, You can call Virgin Money on 13 37 39 to find out what type of credit card you have and if it offers travel insurance. Alternatively, you can compare travel insurance for people aged over 80 , including prices and what’s covered. I hope this helps.

Could you please forward a copy of the policy for complimentary travel insurance for use with Virgin High Flyer credit card. I’m assuming it is with Alliance Insurance.

Hi Deborah,

Here’s a link to the complimentary insurance terms and conditions document (pdf) effective 1 June 2022. That’s the version currently available on the Virgin Money website (at the time of writing).

Just keep in mind that they do get updated periodically. So if you need to reference it in the future, check the Virgin Money credit card forms and T&Cs webpage for updates to it. Hope that helps!

How to report delayed baggage

Before you leave the airport, you must speak to the staff in the baggage reclaim hall. You'll be given a ‘Missing Bag Report AHL’ to complete. You'll also need to give us an accurate description of your bag/s, including distinguishing features. These could include:

  • Stickers or decorations
  • Scratch marks

Our staff will give you a 10-character reference number.

Monitor our progress in tracking down your bag

When you have completed the report, our baggage tracing team will update you daily on any progress. We'll also tell you when you should expect your baggage back.

Check the status of your missing baggage and update your details on the  WorldTracer customer portal . Enter your surname & the 10-digit reference number from your missing bag report AHL.

If you do wish to contact us, we're available 24/7 on our digital channels & at our email:

What happens when we’ve found your baggage?

As soon as we locate your baggage, we'll arrange for delivery to your destination. Most delayed bags travel on our next available flight.

Once your bag/s arrives at its final destination, we'll arrange for a courier to deliver your bag/s at no cost to you.

NOTE:  We're unable to deliver to addresses in Lagos due to custom regulations, so you'll need to collect it from the airport.

Buy essential items when your baggage is delayed

We understand that whilst you’re without your baggage you might need to buy essential items.

We offer a guideline of £65/$75 per day to buy what you need. We do ask that you keep any receipts for the purchases so that they can be submitted for reimbursement. When it comes to making a claim please see the below section.

What happens if we can't find your baggage?

Unfortunately, there are rare instances where we cannot find a delayed bag. If this happens, we'll declare your bag irretrievably lost after 21 days of you reporting it missing. You can then make a claim for compensation.

How to make a claim

Our liability on lost baggage is limited, so if you have travel insurance (always recommended) you’re likely to be better off making a claim through them instead. Most insurers will ask for proof you have reported the delay and/or damage with our baggage team. In most cases the 10 alpha-numeric reference we give you is normally enough.

If you don't have travel insurance and you need to make a claim, please look at the options available below. If your experience is one or more of the below scenarios, please complete the most applicable log, and attach all receipts you’re claiming for.

  • Lost baggage
  • Damaged baggage

How to claim expenses if your baggage was delayed

You may need to buy some essential items if you’re away from home. While we’re locating your missing bag/s you can claim for items such as cosmetics, toiletries, and basic clothing.

If you need to purchase essentials while you’re without your bag/s, we offer a guideline of £65/$75 per day. Once your baggage is returned, you will need to submit your receipts within 21 days. Please complete these steps:

  • Complete  Claiming essential items form
  • Attached your receipts to the form
  • Click send at the end of the form

How to claim if your baggage hasn't arrived at all

Unfortunately, there are rare instances where we cannot find a delayed bag. We’ll declare your bag irretrievably lost after 21 days of you reporting it missing.

To make a claim for irretrievably lost baggage, please:

  • List your lost items to Irretrievably lost baggage log   (if accessing from your phone you will need to save this first to edit)
  • You can list additional items if you run out of space by completing Additional baggage content log .
  • Save a copy of the log to your device or computer
  • Complete Irretrievably Lost Baggage form
  • Attach your saved Irretrievably Lost Baggage log, receipts, and the additional log to the form

Where to send your completed form – by post

To send us your claims form by post, please complete Irretrievably Lost Baggage postal form  and send it to either our UK or US address listed below.

We recommend that you send your claims form, copies of your receipts & any other supporting documents via recorded delivery.

How to claim if your baggage has arrived damaged or has missing items

Our ground staff in the baggage hall will assess the damage. In some airports, we can settle your claim immediately. This could be by arranging a replacement bag (if your bag is no longer useable) or by referring you to our repair company.

To make a claim for damaged baggage and missing items, please:

  • List your damaged baggage and/or missing items to Damaged baggage or missing content log   (if accessing from your phone you will need to save this first to edit)
  • You can list additional items if you run out of space by completing  Additional baggage content log .
  • Complete Damaged Baggage / missing contents form
  • Attach your saved Damaged Baggage or Missing Contents log, receipts, and the additional log to the form

Please submit this within seven days of you collecting the baggage.

If you wish to make a claim with us for damaged baggage, please complete the relevant forms for us to review.

We do everything we can to take care of your baggage when they're in our care, but cosmetic and minor damage can happen. We're unable to accept claims for this kind of 'wear and tear' damage, which includes scuffs or dents that do not affect the structure of the bag.

If you prefer to send by post

Please complete our   Damaged baggage or missing contents postal form   and send to the below address. Ensure you include a copy of any receipts as we will not be able to send back original copies.

Our Liability

Our liability about lost or damaged baggage is strictly limited under the Montreal Convention. Due to these limits of liability, we strongly recommend you take out your own insurance.

You'll need to have documented proof of purchase to be able to make a baggage claim, including the date and purchase price. If it's more than 5 years old, we will take into account some depreciation of value for the item.

We cannot accept liability for damage and/or loss of articles contained in baggage if it's:

  • Over packed
  • Unsuitably packed and/or protected
  • Already damaged
  • Not suitable as checked baggage, e.g. packed in carrier bags or paper boxes

Please look at our  Conditions of Carriage  for more information.
