AT&T Stadium: The Dallas Cowboys and Events Guide

AT&T Stadium, located in Arlington, Texas, right smack in the middle of Dallas and Fort Worth, was constructed as the official home for the Dallas Cowboys replacing iconic Texas Stadium in Irving. But its used for so much more. In This post we’ll help you navigate this spectacular stadium and give you some great things to do in DFW.

The design of AT&T Stadium embodies a harmonious blend of the Dallas Cowboys’ iconic history and a forward-looking vision. There is still a hole in the roof so God can watch his team play. But it’s now a retractable roof (and its closed most of the time). The stadium has a distinguished interior space paying homage to past stars, and all the modern amenities. The exterior is marked by canted 800-foot glass walls and two striking steel arches which support the stadium. Within the stadium, you’ll find the world’s largest jumbotron and a collection of art befitting a modern art museum.

Outside of the Dallas Cowboys the stadium is active a good portion of the year holding events like Taylor Swifts Eras tour and concerts to the 2026 World Cup to the annual Big 12 Championship game and Cotton Bowl. And they’ve had the Super Bowl. These events showcase the stadium’s versatility in accommodating different types of performances and competitions, attracting a wide range of audiences.

As you immerse yourself in the heart of Dallas, you’ll discover it’s not just a city but a conglomerate of cities within the expansive Metroplex, now among the top four largest metropolitan areas in the United States. This bustling region offers a plethora of attractions and activities, ensuring your visit is filled with entertainment and memorable experiences. And don’t forget Fort Worth, a city that complements Dallas’s dynamic spirit with its own unique allure. So let’s get started on a tour of this iconic stadium.

We had a wonderful time and learned so much about the history of the City of Dallas from our tour guide, Dan. Everything from when Texas was a part of Mexico, to when it was its own Country, to when it became a State. From the Native Americans already here, to the cattle drive era, to the assassination of JFK, to current day Dallas. So much history and little known facts, Dan made it so fun and interesting. We have lived in an outer suburb of Dallas for over a decade, and we will happily take the tour again when we have guests in town, and we recommend it to anyone visiting the area for a broad overview of Dallas, past and present. Tyler Guyton is all about family, and really loves his new one: the Dallas Cowboys | Bohls

FRISCO — Tyler Guyton’s all about family.

And by virtue of his selection as a first-round draft pick of the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night , he’s now about his extended family as well.

Heck, his father, Alvin Guyton, was so pumped up that his son was chosen by their favorite team that Tyler recounted the Cowboys’ home blowout win over the Jets last September when his father got onto the field and planted a big smooch on the midfield Cowboys star at AT&T Stadium.

“I’ve been to plenty of games there,” said Tyler Guyton, accompanied by his parents, brother and friends at The Star on Friday. “Went to two this past season. But my best memory was after one game, my dad got to kiss the star on the field. That was always on his bucket list.”

Tyler’s got his own bucket list and seems bent on making some even better memories at AT&T Stadium once he embarks on his NFL career as the Cowboys’ left tackle . He’s only started one game on that side, but he's made nine starts at right tackle where he protected the blind side of Dillon Gabriel, Oklahoma’s left-handed quarterback.

He’s never drawn more acclaim than honorable mention All-Big 12 this past season, but if the Manor product lives up to his billing as a first-round talent, he’ll be the object of a lot of affection from his dad and Cowboy Nation.

More: Texas vs. Georgia football? Once, twice, anyone want three times? | Bohls

After all, Guyton says he’ll bring a mean streak to the game.

“Off the field, I’m a cool guy,” he said. “I like to laugh and show love, but on the field, I want to hurt people. Naturally my tendency as a player is to be violent.”

Tyler Guyton's heroes have always been Cowboys

Jerry Jones seemed to appreciate his newest Cowboy’s enthusiasm and intensity.

He was blown away by the jaw-dropping appreciation the 6-foot-8, 322-pound lineman had for the franchise and Jones. He and his entourage all wore No. 60 blue Cowboy jerseys Friday. After his first ride on a private jet to get to the Metroplex, the Guytons were given a tour of the stadium and the locker room where his personalized jersey hung from his locker. That was given to his dad, who wore it as proudly as the broad smile plastered on his face.

Alvin also clutched a rolled-up T-shirt that the family had made. On the front was a picture of his late mother, Gracie Mae Guyton, cradling the baby Tyler soon after he was born. She died 2½ years ago.

“She was a big Dallas Cowboys fan,” Alvin said. “My chest is through the roof right now. I love the gratitude Tyler uses as a foundation. This is totally surreal. Just indescribable.”

More: History says Texas' later-round picks and undrafted prospects can still thrive | Golden

Jones beamed as well and lauded Guyton for his emotional shoutout to his entire family.

“I don’t think I’ve ever had a player as emotionally proud to be here as Tyler,” Jones said. “That’s a major plus. Obviously I want to carry this forward. But he has to have big, serious intent and focus to get it done.”

A probably wise move from basketball to football

Guyton certainly has that despite a background that was more strongly rooted in basketball.

Oh, he played some Pee-Wee football, but he didn’t fully embrace football until his final year of high school at Manor. That was his third high school in four years after two different stints at Vista Ridge and one at LBJ where his dad had played basketball before continuing his career in that sport at Midwestern State.

“I was a 2 (guard),” Alvin said. “But I wanted to be a 1.”

His son could probably have been anything he wanted to be. He was an AAU teammate of Jamal Shead before the latter moved on and became the Big 12 player of the year and an All-American guard with the Houston Cougars.

From Manor to Fort Worth to Norman to Dallas

Tyler might have followed him there, but for the pleas of the Manor football coaches who finally convinced him to renew his interest in the sport. Why did it take so long?

“I thought I was a basketball player,” he said. “I think I have some quick feet. Comparison-wise, I think I play more like LeBron. I have a little basketball skill.”

Tyler had always played defensive line, but finally gave in and switched to the offensive side and realized “offense wasn’t that bad,” his dad said.

While he had dabbled at running back, quarterback, defensive tackle and tight end and once caught a touchdown pass in a cameo role, Guyton was destined to stay on offense. He caught another scoring pass as an H-back at TCU, the only school that offered him a football scholarship.

Texas had always been Tyler’s favorite school, “but they never offered,” Alvin said. “They looked at him. Twice. And when Gary Patterson went there (as an analyst to Steve Sarkisian after being fired at TCU), we thought things might work out, but we never heard back from them.”

More: Pros and cons of Kansas City Chiefs picking Texas football’s Xavier Worthy in NFL Draft

So after two years in Fort Worth, one as a redshirt, he transferred to OU where he impressed the coaching staff and made 14 starts without allowing more than two sacks in 663 pass attempts.

Bill Bedenbaugh, the legendary line coach for the Sooners who has groomed 11 linemen into NFL draft picks, couldn’t have been more impressed with Guyton.

“He’s the most talented guy I’ve ever coached,” he said.

Guyton appears to be a natural talent with excellent football skills and a nasty mindset that should translate well in the NFL when he will be asked to replace seven-time All-Pro tackle Tyron Smith. If nothing else, the Cowboys' judgment in taking offensive linemen early can be trusted because of a strong track record. They've taken four of them in the first round in the last 13 years and all were Pro Bowlers, including Smith, Travis Frederick and Zack Martin. Those three alone had 22 Pro Bowl seasons.

But then, why wouldn’t Guyton's genetics have prepared him for this role. His paternal and maternal grandparents stood 6-foot-8 and 6-foot-9.

The whole atmosphere all but overwhelmed the family in Friday's lovefest. Tyler even joked that he was never taking off the Cowboys jersey he stretched to its limits Friday and would do everything in his power to make Dallas proud.

That went double for his dad.

“Yeah,” Tyler added, “my dad laid on the star and hugged it today.”

This article originally appeared on Austin American-Statesman: Tyler Guyton is all about family, and really loves his new one: the Dallas Cowboys | Bohls

Oklahoma's Tyler Guyton became the fourth offensive lineman drafted in the first round by the Dallas Cowboys in the last 13 years. He was the 29th overall selection Thursday. The Manor product is slotted to take over at left tackle.

What to know about Dallas Memorial Auditorium, potential new home of WNBA’s Dallas Wings

The arena has hosted big-ticket names like the beatles, elvis presley and the rolling stones.

The Arena at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, once called Memorial Auditorium, in...

6:03 AM on Apr 23, 2024 CDT

Dallas officials will vote on a 15-year proposal Wednesday in an effort to relocate the WNBA’s Dallas Wings from Arlington to the Dallas Memorial Auditorium, part of Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center downtown.

The recently awarded a three-year, nearly $7.7 million contract to a national architecture, engineering and construction management firm for the arena renovation and reconstruction, and city officials anticipate the project could be done as early as 2026.

If the Wings were to relocate to the site, they would have to use the arena at least 70 days a year between April 15 and Nov. 1, according to the proposal before council members on Wednesday. The proposal includes year-round use of the building for training and office space, with the team obtaining a final certificate of occupancy no later than March 1, 2026.

Here’s what to know about the Memorial Auditorium arena:

The oldest structure in the convention center complex downtown

The convention center is a mosaic of structures. Every new building has been part of a city-led effort to expand the complex that stretches from the City Hall to the Cedars neighborhood.

Memorial Auditorium, built in 1957, is the complex’s first and oldest structure. It is near The Black Academy of Arts and Letters, which also is undergoing renovations as part of the larger redevelopment plan .

George Dahl, the Dallas architect responsible for the construction and design of the 26 Art Deco-style buildings in Fair Park, designed the arena.

Related: Dallas Memorial Auditorium was good enough for The Beatles, JFK and Led Zeppelin. So why not us?

How many people can the arena host?

The arena has the capacity to hold nearly 10,000 attendees. It was always imagined as a multipurpose space capable of hosting concerts and arena sports matches, among other entertainment events.

In 1973, the auditorium was renamed the convention center arena after the complex had a million square-feet added to it.

The arena has hosted big ticket names such as the Beatles and Led Zeppelin

At its peak, the arena was the stage for acts like Elvis Presley, the Jackson Five, the Beatles and Led Zeppelin.

Between 1967 and 1977, artists like the Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Miles Davis, the Rolling Stones, the Who, the Grateful Dead, Black Sabbath, Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, Billy Joel, Prince, and Fleetwood Mac also performed at the memorial.

The Dallas Chaparrals, a basketball team affiliated to the American Basketball Association were also based in the arena until 1973, and the arena also hosted an appearance by John F. Kennedy during his 1960 presidential campaign.

How will the arena change with the renovations?

Rosa Fleming, director of the city’s convention and event service department, told The Dallas Morning News in February that the arena’s renovation and upgrades will include efforts to make the space compliant with the requirements of the American with Disabilities Act. The renovations could also add more seats to the arena.

Right now, its antiquated design and the lack of accessibility limits the arena’s use to 26 events per year. But the upgrades will allow the space to be used as many as 100 times per year.

How does the arena fit with the larger redevelopment plan

In the last decade, the city has approved projects that could make the area around the convention center more walkable and public-transit friendly.

The city estimated in January 2023 that it would need $2.8 billion to build the new convention center , with a new deck park over Interstate 30 nearby. The city also said it estimated needing more than $386 million to renovate and reconstruct the arena and The Black Academy of Arts and Letters, both of which which are attached to the current convention center.

The convention center’s expansion and the deck park will open the Cedars neighborhood and Old City Park to Farmers Market, and city officials see it as a way of amping up the revitalization efforts in neighborhoods split by I-30.

The Rolling Stones show no signs of slowing down as they begin their latest tour with Texas show

The legendary band kicked off their latest tour in houston, by juan a. lozano • published april 29, 2024 • updated on april 29, 2024 at 12:24 pm.

Time marches on and all good things must come to an end. But don’t tell that to The Rolling Stones.

What many believe to be the greatest rock ’n’ roll band in the world showed no signs of slowing down anytime soon as they kicked off their latest tour Sunday night at Houston’s NRG Stadium.

The Stones have been touring for more than 60 years. Frontman Mick Jagger and lead guitarist Keith Richards are both 80, with guitarist Ronnie Wood not far behind at 76. Their tour is being sponsored in part by AARP.

But during a vibrant two-hour show, the Stones played with the energy of a band that was on tour for the first time.

“It’s great to be back in the Lone Star State,” Jagger told the packed stadium, filled with longtime fans, many wearing faded concert shirts from previous tours.

Jagger often strutted up and down the stage with seemingly boundless energy while Richards and Wood played many familiar guitar riffs beloved by fans. Jagger often led the audience in sing-alongs.

“The energy level is up and it’s always up with them. The age doesn’t show,” Dale Skjerseth, the Stones’ production director, said Friday before the concert.

The Stones have hit the road to support the release of their latest album, “Hackney Diamonds,” the band’s first record of original music since 2005.

Houston was the first stop on the band’s 16-city tour across the U.S. and Canada. Other cities on the tour include New Orleans, Philadelphia and Vancouver, British Columbia. The tour ends on July 17 in Santa Clara, California.

During Sunday's 18-song concert set list, the Stones played several tracks off the new record, including the lead single “Angry.” They also played classics including “Sympathy for the Devil,” “Gimmer Shelter,” Honky Tonk Women” and “Start Me Up.”

After playing “Beast of Burden,” Jagger said that concertgoers in Houston had voted to include it on the setlist.

“You can’t go wrong with that,” one man in the audience could be heard screaming.

The Stones also played some unexpected choices, including “Rocks Off,” from their 1972 double album “Exile on Main St.” and “Out of Time,” a 1966 song that Jagger said during the concert had not ever been played by the band in the U.S.

With the 2021 death of drummer Charlie Watts, the Stones are now comprised of the core trio of Jagger, Richards and Wood. On Sunday, they were backed by various musicians including two keyboardists, a new drummer, backup singers and a brass section.

While the stage was surrounded by a large collection of video screens projecting images throughout the show, the main focus of the concert was the band and their songs

Before Sunday’s concert, Jagger spent time on Friday touring NASA’s Johnson Space Center in suburban Houston, posting photos on his Instagram account of him with astronauts inside Mission Control.

“I had an amazing trip to the Space Center,” Jagger said.

When asked if the band might be thinking about retiring, Dale Skjerseth, the band's production manager, said he doubts that will happen.

“This is not the end. They’re very enthused,” he said.

With the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 on the horizon, the 34,000-seat modular cricket stadium in Nassau County , New York is inching closer towards completion.

A new timelapse released by the International Cricket Council shows incredible progress on the stadium's construction, which began in January. Video footage from April shows that much of the seating of the general stands has been set up while the ground has also been leveled and prepared for the games that are scheduled to begin on June 1.

ICC, in a news release Thursday , said the turf outfield has also been laid and "preparation work" on the ground has been completed while the "installation of the pitches begins next week."

The ICC released the timelapse video on Instagram .

The stadium has been roughly divided into three different sections: the general stands on the east and west sides of the stadium for audiences and fans, the players locker rooms to the north with the hospitality and VIP boxes next to them, and the operations offices and media and broadcast areas in the south, close to the Nassau Aquatic Center.

“It is incredible to see what has been accomplished in just a few short months," T20 USA, Inc. CEO Brett Jones said in a statement. "The stands are up, the seats are in, the technology is being installed, the outfield has been laid and the pitches are on their way."

"We can’t wait to welcome the world to this incredible venue this June," he added.

The stadium is expected to be complete by May 21, according to the timeline released by the ICC. A test event will be played at the venue on May 27, while the first match at the venue, Sri Lanka vs. South Africa would be played on June 3.

Bears unveil plans for new stadium near Soldier Field, will include fixed roof

By Jenna West, Kevin Fishbain and Adam Jahns

After playing at Soldier Field since 1971, the Chicago Bears plan to build a new multipurpose stadium just south of their current home.

Bears president Kevin Warren unveiled plans Wednesday for the franchise to build a lakefront stadium with a fixed roof and a 20 percent increase in green space on the museum campus outside the stadium for visitors to enjoy. Warren said the new stadium will allow the Bears to hold more concerts and events and give them a chance to bid on hosting a Super Bowl.

The goal is to get approval during the current legislative session, with shovels in the ground by the summer of 2025 that could allow a stadium to open by 2028, Warren said.

Sports fields and gardens will replace Soldier Field, with the stadium’s historic colonnades preserved as a tribute to Chicago’s military veterans. The Bears will continue playing at Soldier Field while the new stadium is under construction.

“This marks a pivotal moment for Chicago as we introduce a visionary project prioritizing the public good,” Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson said in a statement. “The proposed stadium, accompanied by expanded open spaces and recreational facilities, exemplifies my administration’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all Chicagoans. … I look forward to the positive impact it will have on our beloved city.”

The stadium project will cost $3.2 billion, and Bears ownership will contribute $2 billion toward that proposed cost. Karen Murphy, the Bears executive vice President of stadium development and COO, said the club will apply for a $300 million NFL loan as part of the private investment plan.

Johnson said the project will not result in new taxes on the city’s residents.

While the capacity for the new stadium will be similar to Soldier Field (65,000 seats), the plan is to include more standing-room-only options.

The first phase of the Bears project is the stadium, followed by adding infrastructure to the surrounding campus in phase two. Phase three is “optional infrastructure to enhance the campus, improve circulation, and maximize public economic benefits, totaling $665 million.” They project the building of the surrounding infrastructure will take five years after the stadium’s completion.

Project plans include improving access to the museum campus near the stadium with better infrastructure and adding public restrooms and food and beverage options for park users.

Greenberg: Can the Chicago Bears land both Caleb Williams and a new stadium?

The Bears last underwent a major renovation on Soldier Field 20 years ago, and previously planned to move the team to the suburbs north of Chicago.

In September 2021, the Bears signed a purchase agreement to buy a 326-acre plot of Arlington Park racecourse property in Arlington Heights, Ill, for $197.2 million. The idea was to build a stadium and create a “mixed-use” area full of restaurants, bars and hotels that provide the franchise with more revenue. The deal was finalized in February 2023 and the horserace track was demolished.

But the team turned its attention back to Chicago as arguments over school districts and real estate taxes for the Arlington Park property stalled the project. The Cook County Board of Review recently appraised the land at $125 million. The Bears have argued it should be valued at $60 million, and an appeal by the team is likely.

Warren reiterated Wednesday that while the Bears are the biggest landowner in Arlington Heights, their stadium efforts remain focused on the city of Chicago.

Bears chairman George McCaskey shared that same sentiment at the NFL owners’ meetings in March.

“We want what’s best for Bears fans and what’s best for the community,” McCaskey said. “And if that can be done on the museum campus, we’d be thrilled.

“That area is a jewel of our great city. But it needs better access. And this is an opportunity to provide that and bring out all that the Museum Campus has to offer. And I think if we do it right, it will be great for the museums, great for Bears fans, great for the people of the city of Chicago and great for the region.”

Warren played a major role in helping the Vikings build U.S. Bank Stadium, a domed venue considered one of the best in the NFL. He envisioned something similar for the Bears and unveiled those plans Wednesday.
