Florida Yachting Season: mid-November through mid-July
Thanks to its sub-tropical climate, Florida yacht charters are perfect year-round. The high season for boat rentals runs from mid-November to mid-July, with peak season around New Year’s and Spring Break.
Winter draws more visitors to Florida’s sunny shores, while the shoulder seasons in fall and spring offer great weather and fewer tourists.
Cruising Conditions
South Florida’s sub-tropical climate is known for its mild winters and hot summers. In winter, cruising conditions are ideal. Cooling trade blow consistently, while temperatures hover in the mid-70s to low-80s. Winter in Miami also sees fewer days with rain than summer or early fall.
In spring and fall, temperatures are comfortable during the morning and evening but can climb into the mid-80s. The wind blows consistently, although rain is more frequent. From June through September, temperatures climb into the 90s, with higher humidity.
How much is it to rent a yacht in Florida?
The cost to charter a yacht in Florida – prices for yacht charters in Florida vary depending on the size and type of the yacht as well as available amenities and features. For $22,000, you can charter a 75-foot motor yacht that sleeps six guests in three cabins, while $170,000 will get you a 144-foot superyacht that sleeps twelve guests and features an elevator.
Several factors come into play when considering the cost of charting a yacht in Florida, including the year that the boat was built, the builder, and the selection of water toys available. The reputation of a boat or celebrity owners could also come into play when determining charter rates. Another detail to take into account is when you wish to book your charter as prices increase during the high season and decrease during the low season.
When booking your charter vacation, be sure to ask if the rate is all-inclusive or if there will be additional expenses, and don’t forget to account for a gratuity for your crew.
Explore South Florida and the Florida Keys onboard a Private Charter Yacht
On a private crewed yacht charter in Florida, guests will find plenty of excitement and adventure. From sailing the Florida Keys to exploring the luxury boutiques on Ocean Drive in South Beach, here are some ideas for must-see spots and must-do activities on a crewed yacht charter in Florida:
Florida Keys
The Florida Keys – the string of idyllic islands just south of Miami – stretch for about 120 miles off the southern tip of Florida, from Biscayne National Park all the way to Key West. Each of the islands has its own personality and there are many things to do and see in the Keys: Fantastic diving in Key Largo, sportfishing in Islamorada, and incredible sunsets in Key West, to name a few.
There is no other place like Miami – its exotic mix of cultures offers an exhilarating experience. If you are a foodie or if you enjoy the nightlife, Miami is a must-stop on your yacht charter in South Florida. But the city is not only fun – it has great galleries, museums, and world-famous architecture, the Art Deco of South Beach.
Fort Lauderdale
An undisputed yachting capital of the US, Fort Lauderdale offers more than just state-of-the-art marina facilities. The city boasts amazing beaches, upscale restaurants, and numerous art and cultural events. And of course, there is the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show taking place every November – one of the biggest yachting events in the world.
The southernmost city in America, Key West, is the ultimate yacht charter destination. Here, you’ll find it all: beautiful beaches, quirky beach bars, and loads of interesting history.
South Florida Things to Do & See
South Florida has a Vibrant Nightlife
Head to the bright lights of Miami Beach, especially posh South Beach, for the best nightclub experience in North America. A-listers and celebrities regularly take to the VIP sections in South Beach’s clubs, and touring DJs make stops for drop-in sets. Whether you prefer beach cocktails at an open-air club or the basslines and dancing indoors, you’ll find the best of the best in Miami.
Beautiful Beaches
The Sunshine State’s stunning beaches are a major draw for Florida yacht charters. And in Florida, there are beaches to suit everyone’s tastes. From the sun-worshippers at Las Olas Beach in Fort Lauderdale to the beautiful reefs at Coral Reef State Park in Key Largo, a beautiful beach is always a short cruise away.
Arts, Culture, and Architecture
The historic Art Deco District of Miami Beach boasts swanky hotels, eclectic houses, and elaborately-designed apartment buildings, all with Miami’s signature Art Deco flair. Numerous tours are available for architecture buffs. Or choose to explore Miami Beach’s bustling arts scene, with galleries and museums featuring collections from the Renaissance to modern-day.
Dive a Coral Reef in the U.S.
Key Largo is home to a massive coral reef, which boasts a colorful array of plants and marine life. This “self-proclaimed dive capital of the world” attracts divers from across the globe to Florida. Make a stop on your crewed boat rental to snorkel or dive in John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, America’s first underwater park, which is known for its vibrant reef and idyllic beaches.
Magnificent Sunsets
The Florida Keys boast some of the most beautiful sunsets on the planet. End your day in the Marquesas Keys, a group of uninhabited islands that are surrounded by mangroves, or Indian Key, where colors brilliantly fade from the sky.

6. Clearwater
The powder-soft white sand beach of Clearwater might be where you want to spend your whole holiday, but the area has a myriad more sights and activities to explore: Swim with dolphins, windsurf or learn how to jet ski in the crystal clear waters, then join the parties in the local bars or host your own aboard your superyacht.
Fishing is particularly good in the Gulf Stream off the coast, and charter guests can take an afternoon to laze in the sunshine while catching lunch.
7. Sarasota
The gentle waves and shallow water at Lido Key Beach make this stretch of coast a hit with young families, while those looking for more privacy for a romantic candlelit meal have Passage Key and Egmont Key State Park. Snorkel, Scuba dive and kayak through mangroves and watch schools of fish swimming beneath your group.

8. Sanibel Island
Nature lovers will feel reinvigorated on Sanibel Island, where the J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge covers half of the land and children will be enthralled by the 250 different kinds of shells washed ashore at Sanibel Beach.

9. Captiva Island
North of Sanibel Island, the western beaches continue and visitors can stroll along the sands for miles, snorkel with fish and other friendly sea creatures or zip through the water with the Seabobs and jet skis from the water toys collection on board.
There is little to do but relax and play games with family and friends - a perfect escape for quality time together after visiting towns bursting with land-based attractions.
As the name suggests, this town takes its architectural inspiration from Italy and caters to the luxury lifestyle with high-end shops, golf courses and miles of white sand beach where the group can play games or take a stroll along the pier.

It’s all well and good to say you SHOULD charter a yacht in Florida, but HOW does one do that?
That’s where Sailo comes in.
Sailo is a platform where verified boat owners and representatives can list their boats for rent and charter. So basically, it’s like Airbnb for boats, but with the option to rent a captain too, which is ideal for those who can’t drive a boat. And the good news is, there are a tonne of rentals in the waters of Florida. Click on the website, select your date, browse the available boats and book.
You can also hire a chartered boat from one of the many yacht rental companies that line the coastal towns of Miami, but this will require some searching around to find a reputable company. Sailo has user reviews, so it makes finding a decent boat much easier.
Something to consider – if you rent a boat in Florida and intend on driving the boat yourself, you don’t need a boat license, but if you are born after Jan 1st, 1988 (very specific) you do need a Boating Safety Education Identification Card .
Did we not already convince you when we mentioned the tempting tropical water, sunshine and gorgeous beaches?
There’s no better way to experience Florida than by boat. Let me tell you why…
When you charter a boat, it means that a captain and crew are included in your experience, so you can just sit back and enjoy. While it is more expensive than renting a bareboat charter in Florida where you are responsible for driving and navigation, etc), you do benefit from having an experienced driver. It is a sort of all-inclusive experience that means you can focus on having fun and connecting with your fellow vacationers.
From a boat, you can experience the best of Florida’s subtropical waters. You can enjoy a romantic sunset, snorkel and admire the biodiversity of marine life, or spend a day at a secluded beach, for example.
There are also many options for bareboat boat rental in Florida, but in this article, we will focus on yacht charters. You’re on vacation, darling, you deserve a hands-off and relaxing experience.
So, let us help you pick out the best Yacht charters in Florida’s must-visit destinations of Aventura, Key Biscayne and Sunny Isles Beach.

There are multiple living spaces with plush sofas, a full kitchen and a generous dining table that can comfortably fit eight guests and a banquet of food. This place would be impressive even on land, can we stress how impressive that is?
If you’re keen to really level up your experience, overnight stays for eight people can be accommodated.
The captain requests that you bring your own bathers, hat, sunscreen and sunglasses. Other than that, the rest will be taken care of for you.
You’ll have to dig deep for the experience, but if you can, you totally should.

The list of things to do on the water in Florida is long. If you’re keen to do some sightseeing while you’re in Key Biscayne, look no further than this 34 Pearson Sailboat.
With a whole bunch of local knowledge t, the captain of this sailboat has a great reputation for showing guests the ultimate experience.

Like all boats in this article, this one comes captained. But, if you’re interested in learning how to sail, you can have a master captain show you the ropes and help navigate the sailboat on your own.
Not only would this be an awesome experience, but it also comes at a very reasonable price. You’ll even get bottled water, ice, towels and a light refreshment thrown in for good measure.
It may not be the most luxurious of yacht charters in Florida, but it’s definitely a wholesome option for those wanting to explore the area like a local and see the best of Key Biscayne.

Best Boat Tour in Key Biscayne for Sunsets – Three-Hour Private Sunset Sailboat on Biscayne Bay
- Great sunset views

What could be better than watching the sunset in Florida? How about watching the sunset from your own private yacht?
This epic private boat tour gets you out onto Biscayne Bay to watch the sunset. As Key Biscayne is super close to the iconic city of Miami, you’ll get to admire the sunset over the city skyline from the water. You’ll see the famous Cape Florida Lighthouse and other unmissable spots by the water like the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens.
There are also plenty of Atlantic bottlenose dolphins who call Biscayne Bay home. If you’re lucky you might catch a glimpse of them in their natural habitat!
Be sure to bring your camera along to capture the incredible views.
Epic Party Yacht Charter in Sunny Isles Beach – Sea Ray Sundancer
- Awesome party boat
Whether you’re planning an unforgettable bachelor(ette) party, a birthday surprise or a boozy day on your Florida vacation, this sexy motor yacht is an excellent choice for you to throw a boat party.
This Florida Yacht charter is a 58-foot Sea Ray Sundancer. That’s the kinda name I want to throw a boat party to under the Floridian sun!
It’s not just all in the name either. The Sundancer has an open layout that is perfect for a party of up to 13 people. The deck (think ‘dancefloor’) has the perfect set-up with a high definition TV where you can stream your favourite tunes. There’s also a wet bar, ice machine and fridge keeping the cocktails cold.
The captain and crew know all the hot party spots in the area, from Haulover Sandbar to Beer Can Island (we swear that’s a real place) and all the other top local attractions.
The Most Affordable Yacht Charter in Sunny Isles Beach – Beneteau Antares
- 6 passengers
This gorgeous 30-foot Beneteau Antares comes in as the most affordable yacht charter in Sunny Isles Beach. But mark my words, that doesn’t mean you’re in for a less than fabulous experience.
In fact, this is a brand spanking new 2020 model.
It’s not as big as some of the other Yacht rentals in Florida, but it’s got everything you need and more for an ultimate day on the water. Let us run you through.
Does it have a sunbed on the bow for you to catch some rays and snap your pics to prove you were on a boat? It does indeed.
Is there a floating mat on board so you can challenge your mate to a water wrestling match? Why, of course!
Does it have a cabin with AC for when you need a moment out of the heat? Tick.
Is there enough table space for a food platter and a bottle of champagne? Abso-bloody-lutely.
The biggest plus? Compared to the other more enticing options, this one won’t break the bank either. Why should those with deep pockets have all the fun?
The Biggest Yacht Charter in Sunny Isles Beach – 70′ Azimut + Jet Ski Adventure
- 70 foot yacht
This 70 foot Azimut is the biggest yacht charter in Sunny Isles. Not only is it big, it’s also super cool.
It’s got ample deck space for spreading out and catching some rays, a sweet sound system and an outdoor shower. If you need a break from the sunshine, the indoor and shaded areas have plush lounges to kick back on. There’s even AC inside and multiple bedrooms if you’re partial to a siesta.
In case a giant luxury yacht isn’t all you’ve ever dreamed of, they will chuck in a brand new SeaDoo jetski for good measure. There are water toys and inflatables aboard, so you’ve got all the ingredients to create an absolutely epic day on the water.
With this Floria yacht charter, you’ve got the flexibility to create the perfect day for you and your crew of up to 13. Maybe you wanna drop the anchor and have a party at the Nixon Sandbar. Perhaps a day swimming and snorkelling in the clear waters is calling you. Or maybe docking at a waterfront restaurant is more up your alley.
You can do it all, too! It’s your day, you choose what goes. There are plenty of options for how you spend your day on this huge Florida yacht charter.
- Watch the sunset. No matter where you are in Florida, there’s something extra special about watching the sunset from your own private yacht. Whether you enjoy it from Biscayne Bay with a view over the Miami city skyline or from the water by a secluded island, catching a sunset is one of the best things to do in Florida , so don’t miss out on a sunset.
- Celebrity Sightseeing along Millionaires Row . Cruise along the waters of Biscayne Bay with a cocktail in one hand and a pair of binoculars in the other as you sail past the equisite mansions of Millionaire’s Row, where you may just spot a celebrity outside on their lawns. Whether you see a celeb or not, you can still marvel at the stunning architecture of those richest Floridian residents. Good times guarenteed, celebrities not guaranteed.
- Go snorkelling. The tropical waters of Florida are known for an abundance of tropical fish, interesting sea life and colourful coral. Make the most of the biodiversity and explore below the surface with a snorkel.
- Drinks on deck. We are in Florida, it’s not the time to skip the party. The drinks are cold and the weather is hot. Pour yourself a drink and sit back and relax on the deck of your yacht charter. I can almost guarantee you’ve never looked this good before. If you feel like getting a little more rowdy, a booze cruise is certainly not out of the question in Florida. Enjoy yourself, responsibly of course.
- Jetski. Imagine zooming around the bay on a jetski with a tropical breeze on your face. Jetskis are damn fun, and Florida is an awesome place to try them out. Many of the more luxurious yacht charters in Florida include a jetski as a part of the package to sweeten the deal that little bit more. If not, chat with your captain, they might be able to arrange one for you!
- Dolphin watching. Atlantic bottlenose dolphins can be found frolicking about in the waters of Florida. Be sure to watch out for them while you cruise around the water!
- Get some sun. What better place to catch some rays than under the hot Floridian sun? Make sure you remember your hat and reef-safe sunscreen. You can protect your skin and get some vitamin D at the same time.
- Watersports. One of the best ways to enjoy a day on the water is to get into some watersports. Florida is a great spot to try out water skiing, wakeboarding and a wet ‘n’ wild tube ride.
- Floating mat and water inflatables. Drifting on the water under the sun or splashing and playing around with your mates on water inflatables is bound to be an epic time. Many yacht charters in Florida include water equipment like floating mats and water inflatables.
- Enjoy a secluded beach. Maybe you want to enjoy a naturist spot and get your gear off or escape the hustle and bustle of busy places. There are plenty of stunning and secluded beaches and islands around Florida just waiting to be explored.
If we haven’t convinced you to charter a yacht in Florida by now, I don’t know what will.
Whether you’re planning a day on the water to celebrate something special, spend quality time with family or friends, or just keen for a unique day on your travels, chartering a yacht is an easy way to have some fun.
We do think the best way to experience the best of Florida’s tropical waters is by yacht charter. Those bottlenose dolphins won’t admire themselves!
Our top recommendation would be to check out renting a bareboat in Florida, even just for a day. This could be your chance to tick a DIY sailing trip off your bucket list!
But for now, we will leave you here dreaming of a day on a luxury yacht under the Floridian sun. And if you need more inspiration, check out our guides to the best boat rentals in Tampa , and best boat rentals in Fort Lauderdale , too!

In Florida, there's an abundance of waterways to explore and boat tours to enjoy.
By Bonnie Gross
The first tourists in Florida arrived by boat – Juan Ponce de Leon and his crew 500 years ago – and it’s still the best way to see the Sunshine State.
From a boat you can reach special places where there are no roads and glimpse views you can’t see any other way. Some of the boats themselves are one-of-a-kind attractions.
And there’s no shortage of waterways to explore – Florida has 1,800 miles of coastline and 12,000 miles of rivers and streams.
While some visitors will rent kayaks, motor boats, houseboats, or sailboats on a Florida vacation, the easiest and least expensive way to go is on a boat tour, and there are hundreds to choose from.
Here are 10 favorites that illustrate the variety of cruises available around the state:
Cruise through Tarpon Springs to a dazzling island
As early as 1890 Greeks came to Tarpon Springs to dive for sponges . The sponges are long gone, but the Greek heritage lives on. One of the best things to do from the Tarpon Springs Sponge Docks is take a boat tour that offers several delights: You tour the Anclote River and hear a little Tarpon Springs history; you gaze on the Gulf waters and spot dolphins; and you get a short stop on Anclote Key, a pristine, white-sand barrier island reachable only by boat. Anclote Key is a state park with an 1887 lighthouse. These Florida boat tours give visitors a half hour to enjoy Anclote’s perfect sandy beaches (you’ll wish you could stay) and do not include visiting the lighthouse. Boat companies that operate cruises to Anclote from the Sponge Docks include SunLine Cruises , and Sponge-O-Rama .
Celebrity spotting off Miami Beach
Entertainers, celebrity athletes, and other Miami millionaires pay big money for waterfront views from exclusive addresses. But those same waterfront views mean that from a boat you have an equally good view of palatial estates. Florida boat tours leaving from Miami’s festive Bayside Marketplace cruise by Fisher, Hibiscus, and Star Islands, home to Sean Combs, Gloria Estefan, Rosie O'Donnell, and Shaquille O'Neal, among others. Visitors also get an up-close view of the Port of Miami and its giant cruise ship,s plus a postcard-like look at the Miami skyline. The 90-minute Island Queen cruise is aboard a 140-passenger double-decker boat.
Discover the “Wild Man of the Loxahatchee”
This boat tour takes you to a fascinating destination you can’t reach by land. Located inside Jonathan Dickinson State Park , in Hobe Sound, the narrated tour on the Loxahatchee Queen II takes you down the jungle-y Loxahatchee River, which is worth the trip by itself. The highlight, though, is a visit to the home of Trapper Nelson, one of those fabulous characters who helped make Florida funky in the state’s early days. Nelson started out living off the land as a trapper and fur trader in the 1930s, but soon turned himself and his home into one of the area’s first tourist attractions “Trapper’s Zoo and Jungle Gardens.” No public roads lead to Trapper Nelson’s site.
See the sunset from the water in Key West
Key West has turned the daily sunset into a celebration, and seeing the sun go down from a boat cruising offshore is a classic Key West memory. There are many from which to choose: Some are “all you can drink” party boats with DJs and dancing. The pirate-themed Jolly II Rover schooner , with its jaunty red sails, is BYOB. You can compare sunset cruise options during a scenic stroll through the Historic Key West Seaport. Watch for promotions and discounts. Many other Florida port cities offer sunset cruises too, so explore options near where you’re staying.
Manatees and more on St. Johns
One of the high points of a winter visit to Florida is a chance to see an endangered manatee in the wild. One of the best spots to do that is Blue Spring State Park in Orange City. When the weather is cold, the clear spring can attract hundreds of manatees. The St. Johns River Cruise leaves from the park and it specializes in helping you spot wildlife – not just manatees, but also alligators, bald eagles, osprey, herons, egrets sandhill cranes, limpkin, ibis, purple gallinules, and more. The two-hour cruise winds through shallow areas of the unspoiled river, and even when wildlife is scarce, the guide offers lots of history and information about the area.
Be like Bogie on the African Queen
You can’t do this anywhere else: The African Queen boat - the actual steamboat used in the 1951 movie starring Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn - has been beautifully restored to take visitors on Key Largo cruises. Cruises are pricey – best for true fans yearning to sit exactly where Hepburn and Bogart did – but intimate. The boat is licensed to hold six passengers at a time.
Make like Tarzan and explore “The Black Lagoon” One of the largest springs in the world and the deepest in Florida, Wakulla Springs, sited near Tallahassee , has a rich history. There are mastodon bones in the bottom of the river, and archeological sites along its shores. It was also the setting for several early Tarzan movies, starring Johnny Weissmuller, as well as for the cult classic film “Creature from the Black Lagoon.” The guide on the boat tour in Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park tells tales of the mysterious spring (its source has never been located) while pointing out wildlife, which is plentiful. Ancient bald cypress trees line the river. The boat tour is a three-mile loop that takes 45 minutes to an hour. The water rarely achieves the aquamarine clarity it once had but when it does -- usually in late winter or early spring – Wakulla Springs brings out the glass bottom boat for tours.
Find serenity in Central Florida’s Winter Park
Long before Mickey Mouse came to Orlando, folks were enjoying “ jungle cruises” in Orlando . Winter Park Scenic Boat Tours started taking visitors through the lakes and canals of the Winter Park chain in 1938. On the tour, you see lushly landscaped lakefront estates and ride through narrow canals. You’ll see boaters, wading birds, and the occasional alligator. Tour guides offer lots of stories about local history and the people who lived in the mansions, plus a few corny jokes. The 18-passenger open-air pontoon boats provide a friendly intimate tour. Be sure to bring hats and sunscreen.
Zip through the Everglades on an airboat
The loud, flat-bottomed airboats that ride over water and swamp are unlike any other boat ride you’ll take. Invented by Alexander Graham Bell, airboats first came to Florida in the 1920s and have been a classic tourist experience ever since. Airboat tours take you into roadless areas to see wildlife, but a big part of the experience is the wind noise and thrilling speed. You'll find three licensed airboat tour operators in Everglades National Park, and there are plenty of other options throughout South and Central Florida as well. With so many airboat tours out there, you should consult tourist offices near where you are staying for suggestions. Two long-time airboat operators are Cooperstown Airboats (in business since 1945) on the Tamiami Trail, near the Shark Valley entrance to Everglades National Park, and AirBoat Rides at Midway (operating since the 1930s), east of Orlando in Christmas.
Even more Florida boat tours:
The above list of boat tours doesn’t begin to cover all the possibilities, so here are a few more ideas:
- Glass-bottom boat tours let you see coral reefs at J ohn Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in Key Largo without getting wet.
- The oldest glass-bottom boat tour in Florida is at Silver Springs, near Ocala. Once a private attraction, the spring and the boat tour are now part of Silver Springs State Park .
- Wildlife boat tours are popular at Everglades National Park both at the Everglades City entrance and at the Flamingo marina.
- The Jungle Queen Riverboat cruise in Fort Lauderdale has been showing visitors the sites along the New River for more than 50 years.

David was such a sweet and exceptional tour guide! We called same day & they were able to squeeze us into a sunset swamp tour. It was beyond beautiful & more than any of us expected. Dave knows the trails and confidently cut through to areas he knew there would be baby gators & birds galore. It was really enjoyable & I would highly recommend this as a great day activity to not only see a different side of nature, but relax in it. This was a perfect trip, thanks so much!

Nine people on an airboat tour of the area - including tourists from Puerto Rico and Canada - and the driver fell into the water when the boat made a sharp turn to see an alligator but flipped over on Friday afternoon.
The passengers were waiting to be rescued for around 10 minutes with an alligator in sight.
Pictures showed the boat partially submerged in water with some passengers standing on top waiting for help.

Florida airboat flips sending 9 passengers into gator-infested waters, operator arrested
An airboat tour in the Florida Everglades capsized sending passengers overboard on Friday, officials say. This happened when the airboat's driver took a sharp turn to try to see an alligator in the water, according to multiple reports.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said three units responded to a waterway near Coopertown The Original Airboat Tour in the Everglades Friday afternoon. According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, nine people and the operator all fell into the water when the boat took a quick turn.
By time MDFR arrived, everyone had climbed out of the water, and only one patient was treated for injuries on the scene.
But the boat's operator was arrested after FWC said he did not have the proper documentation necessary to operate the boat. His employer, Coopertown, did not immediately respond to USA TODAY's request for comment Monday morning.

Boat passengers say they were afraid of alligators in water, reports state
Passengers told Local 10 the boat operator was trying to get a closer look at a nearby alligator when the airboat flipped.
“My first thought was panic, I was afraid for my wife and family members, and then I thought about the alligator,” passenger Jose Maldonado told Local 10.
NBC Miami said the boat was partially submerged in the water and some passengers were standing on top waiting for help.
Alligator mating season runs from early April until the end of June, when the Sunshine State sees more activity and they become more aggressive.
