Le Cornelle wildlife park: the animal kingdom in 12 hectares
The Le Cornelle wildlife park , in a 12-hectare area on the outskirts of Bergamo, is home to around a hundred animal species including mammals, reptiles and birds from various parts of the world.
The park, which has been open since 1981, can easily be visited on foot with a walk through the reconstructions of the various habitats that also house tigers, elephants, kangaroos, leopards, giant tortoises, a tropical forest and a reptile house . Through research projects and reintegration into natural habitats, the park also collaborates on animal protection policies.
A Journey Between Continents
For more than forty years in the Valbrembana, the Le Cornelle park has made it possible to travel between continents to see various endangered animal species up close, some of which are not very well known, thanks to the low fences. There is the bat-eared fox, an African canid; the potamoceros, an African relative of our wild boar; the Argentine mara, a rodent; and the Manchurian crane, one of the most endangered species of the Gruidae family. Animals of the savannah include lions, various types of antelopes, the rare snow leopard and black leopard, the white tiger, cheetahs, wildebeests, giraffes, hippos, white rhinoceroses, elephants and many more.
Parco Faunistico Le Cornelle
The oasis of aldabra.
Turtle lovers can see the giant turtles of the Seychelles (Indian Ocean), especially those that have survived on the island of Aldabra, one of the largest coral atolls in the world, far away from the rest of the archipelago, one of the most remote and wild places on the planet.
Approaching these gigantic land creatures – the male can weigh up to 200 kg – one discovers that their presence is crucial for the survival of the natural environment in which they live: for example, in Aldabra, there are endemic plant species whose seeds only germinate after the turtles have ingested them and passed through their digestive system. The tortoises of Aldabra teach us how everything in nature is connected in a delicate balance to be preserved.
The tropical forest and the reptile house
In the tropical jungle, between stretches of water and vegetation, where you can walk on a footbridge, live flamingos, cranes, storks, pelicans, muntiacus (small Asian deer), alligators and crocodiles In the five showcases of the reptile house, one can admire the rare rhinoceros iguana, the rock lizard and various pythons.
Visiting le Cornelle Park
Le Cornelle Park offers schools and groups guided tours with workshops for children of various ages. There is also a small hotel housed in an early 20th century Art Nouveau villa.

Since 1981, Le Cornelle Wildlife Park has been hosting numerous animals from all over the Planet, inside its 100.000 square meters of surface. Wide spaces, accurate recreations of natural habitats and no chain: you can see up close the Park’s animals, thanks to the low fences! The Park is visited by many school groups, but also families looking for a different day, among tropical trees inhabited by lemurs, or walking along the ice tanks of the polar bears. In fact, Le Cornelle hosts every kind of animal: walking across the park, you will experience an amazing and unforgettable journey to each continent. Besides the numerous animals, you will also find many restoration and picnic areas in the nature!
A lot of animals were born in the Park, demonstrating the high quality of their life. One of the main goals of Le Cornelle is the protection of endangered species and the conservation of biodiversity. Moreover, education, information and consciousness about threatened species are the Park’s core values.
Do you know where the Park’s name comes from?
It comes from the stones of the river Brembo, which runs along the Park: in fact, the stream moulds them in the shape of little horns, in Italian “cornelle”.

Dubai Safari Park invites visitors to name newly born white rhino, twin moon bears
Birth of endangered species celebrated ahead of park’s reopening on October 1
Dubai: Dubai Safari Park has invited visitors to name three rare baby animals when it reopens its gate after the summer break on October 1.
On Wednesday, the park revealed that it welcomed the three newborns — a white rhino and twin moon bears — earlier this year as part of its endangered species breeding programme.
The twin moon bears, also known as Asiatic Black Bears, and male white rhino were born on January 23 and June 21 respectively. Parents and babies are thriving under the watchful eyes of the highly trained zoologists, the Park said in a press release.
With moon bears classified as vulnerable and white rhinos listed as near threatened by the IUCN Red List (The International Union for Conservation of Nature), this milestone brings immense pride to the team at Dubai Safari Park, it said.
“It highlights the park’s broader commitment to conserving endangered species and creating a safe environment where they can flourish.”
In partnership with both international and local zoos, Dubai Safari Park said it is committed to increasing the population of endangered species. “The recent white rhino birth stands as a testament to the UAE’s commitment to wildlife conservation as this significant achievement is the result of a successful collaboration between Al Ain Zoo and Dubai Safari Park.”
The parents
The calf was fathered by Niloy, a white rhino hailing from Al Ain and the mother, Stompie, is a long-time resident of Dubai Safari Park.
“We are beyond thrilled to welcome these newborns at Dubai Safari Park,” said Ahmad Al Zarouni, Director of Public Parks and Recreational Facilities at Dubai Municipality. “This accomplishment is a direct result of the hard work and dedication of the team in the endangered species breeding programme. These successful births underscore our commitment to wildlife conservation and to educating the public about the importance of protecting wildlife. We hope that this key milestone inspires greater awareness and support for the critical conservation efforts needed across the region and the globe.”
Naming ceremony?
“The baby animals have intentionally remained nameless, as we would like the general public to have a role in naming the rhino calf and bear cubs when we open our doors on October 1,” added Al Zarouni. “Dubai Safari Park will reveal more details about the naming soon and will be encouraging Dubai residents and visitors to get involved.”
Ahmed Eisa Al Harasi, Acting Directing General at the Al Ain Zoo and Aquarium, congratulated Dubai Safari Park on this achievement, praising the collaboration between the two entities, which led to the success in breeding the enrichment of different animal species.
He said: “Al Ain Zoo, being a local and global hub for the protection of endangered species, is always striving to enhance the strategies of Abu Dhabi and the UAE as a whole, in wildlife conservation and nature preservation.”
Al Harasi added: “We were delighted to support Dubai Safari Park, as one of our key and inspiring partners in biodiversity conservation, by acquiring and exchanging several animals in 2022. Among them was the male white rhino, ‘Niloy,’ who was the first calf born at Al Ain Zoo in 2012 from our white rhino species.”

1,214 births
Over the past four years alone, Dubai Safari Park has welcomed the birth of 1,214 animals from 87 species. The white rhino and moon bear births, are particularly special as they are both species at risk of extinction. As the populations of such species dwindle in the wild, animal breeding programmes are crucial to assure their future. Raising awareness about the endangered status of these and other species whilst emphasising the importance of global efforts to increase their populations is an important part of Dubai Safari Park’s premier edutainment experience.
Park opening
Dubai Safari Park opens its gates on October 1st 2024, offering everyone the chance to see the adorable newborns and over 3,000 other animals who inhabit this vast green oasis. For more information, including bookings, visiting hours, and tickets, visit the website of Dubai Safari.

The San Diego Zoo Safari Park has a new resident: a newborn baby aardvark, the first ever born at the park.
The cub was born in July to mother Padmae and father Azaan, who also sired a cub born at the San Diego Zoo in 2022.
Aardvarks are unique-appearing nocturnal burrowing animals with badger-like paws and a long snout that is shaped something like a pig’s; in fact, their name is Afrikaans for “earth pig.”
The creatures, which are native to sub-Saharan Africa, are not currently endangered. However, they are at increasing risk due to habitat loss and other human activities, and because they are solitary and nocturnal, little is known about their reproduction and birthing habits .
What is known is that after a gestation of about seven months, aardvarks give birth to one calf at a time. As the baby matures, their mother teaches them essential skills, such as how to locate and dig for ants and termites, which make up the majority of their diet and which their long and sticky tongues are adept at slurping up from mounds and anthills.
Through behavioral observation and hormone analyses, teams at the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance are now gathering reproductive, sleep, nursing, weight, and growth data from the aardvark family in order to better understand aardvark biology.

Wildlife parks and Zoos in Italy
- September 5, 2023
Table of Contents
Visiting a wildlife park means spending several hours in close contact with animals, immersed in nature, and getting to know many species that one hardly has the chance to observe in their natural habitat.
In addition, under Law No. 73 of 2005 , all zoos in Italy must ensure the conservation of the biodiversity that characterizes the Italian territory in order to protect wildlife , ensure the welfare of animals born and raised in captivity, and preserve endangered species.
What better reason, then, to spend a family day i nside one of the many wildlife parks on Italian territory?
Most of them, moreover, organize interesting educational workshops for families with the aim of bringing children closer to the animal world, and to sensitize them to respect and protect the environment around them.
So let’s get going! Below you will find a list of the most interesting zoos, safari zoos and aquariums in Italy.
Wildlife parks and zoos in Italy
Each wildlife park is structured differently-that is, some allow you to go on an actual safari in your own car, thereby being able to spot larger animals such as giraffes or African felines that live in much larger spaces.
Other wildlife parks, on the other hand, are zoos to be walked on paths that wind through various enclosures of varying size.
Let’s look at them one by one.
Wildlife parks in Italy: zoos, safari zoos, aquariums
Pistoia zoological garden.
Founded in 1970, the Pistoia Zoological Garden is one of the largest in Italy. In fact, it covers an area of 7 hectares and contains 250 botanical species and more than 550 animals belonging to endangered species.
It is visited by following a pedestrian path that leads to close-up views of giraffes, elephants, lions, tigers, zebras, flamingos, penguins, and more. There is also a reptile house where you can observe alligators and a small farm with alpacas, chickens, and goats.
What is special about the Pistoia Zoo is that the entire park is organized in such a way as to intrigue children through curious games and attractions such as Tibetan bridges, giant puzzles, and tunnels where they can squeeze in to get a closer look at the animals. Very nice!
For all visit information – Go to the article.
Natura Viva Park of Bussolengo
Natura Viva Park in Bussolengo is located very close to Lake Garda and consists of the Safari section and the Wildlife section. This means that one part of the park is reserved for the Safari circuit to be traveled with one’s own car (or by booking in advance a 7-seater jeep from the park) and the other part is a footpath of about 5 km that winds among the 5 continents.
Inside the park also is the Extinction Park i.e., an area reserved for extinctions with the history of dinosaurs and large mammals of the past; the House of Giants with crocodiles, Komodo dragon, butterflies etc.; and the Farm where you can feed baby goats.
For all visit information – Go to the article .
Zoo Safari of Pombia
Pombia Safari Park is the largest safari zoo in Piedmont. It covers an area of 450 thousand square meters and is home to 400 animals and 110 different species, three of which are endangered: the Addax Antelope, Somalian Donkey and King Cobra.
The Pombia Zoo Safari is for all intents and purposes a real safari : with your own car, or with the Park’s little train, you drive along a winding road that allows you to observe the animals at close range as they eat or play.
After finishing the circuit by car, you can continue on foot to the other part of the park that is the amusement zone that houses a small aquarium, a reptile house and a variety of rides for children.
City of Sunday
The City of Sunday is a wildlife and nature amusement park located 2 kilometers from Perugia .
In this park of over 45 hectares, you can find not only the wildlife areas but also many fairy tale installations and mechanical attractions for children.
Enclosures with bison, donkeys, Maremma cattle, baby goats, and storks alternate with reconstructions of buildings connected with fairy tales such as Pinocchio’s house, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ house, Little Red Riding Hood’s house, and Sleeping Beauty’s Castle.
Immediately outside the park entrance, but included in the ticket, there is also a really well maintained reptile house.
Wildlife parks and Zoos in Italy: Aquarium of Genoa
Let’s go now to Genoa , my city, where the largest aquarium in Italy and the second largest in Europe is located.
At 27,000 square meters, the Genoa Aquarium is home to 10,000 animals living in 43 tanks where 70 different ecosystems have been reconstructed.
The dolphin tank, the one with penguins playing and diving in the water, and the touch tank where you can pet stingrays are my favorites but you can also find jellyfish, sharks, manatees, seahorses, and more.
Gardaland SEA LIFE Aquarium
The Gardaland Sea Life Aquarium is located near the amusement park of the same name and consists of 37 tanks housing 5,000 different specimens.
Particularly curious is the shark tank, which, in addition to having a depth of 5 meters and a length of 14 meters, can be crossed thanks to a tunnel with a semi-circular section giving, in this way, an exceptional view.
A visit to Sea Life takes approximately one hour and requires a dedicated entrance ticket. Combination tickets with the Gardaland park are also available.
Parc Animalier of Introd
The Parc animalier d’Introd is located in the Aosta Valley at an altitude of 880 meters above sea level. Here you can observe the main animals of the region such as ibex, chamois, marmot, fox, deer etc.
Most of them come from rescue centers and would no longer be able to support themselves independently. Very nice for the children the feeding time !
Zoom of Torino
At Zoom in Turin, you go on a discovery tour of African and Asian nature . No cars, you walk around giraffes, zebras, raptors, lemurs, giant tortoises, and much more.
Also very interesting are the talks with biologists who explain many interesting facts about the lives of animals and their habitats. Only in the summer time, you can stay inside the park in Glamping mode.
There are also two swimming pools (which require a separate entrance fee) adjacent to the penguin and hippo pools.
For all the information, you can check out the official website.

The park was founded in 1911 as a simple zoo and only in 1998 became Bioparco, or a place to preserve endangered animals and promote environmental education activities.
You can visit on foot or you can ride the little train at a cost of €2.00 (free for children up to one year old).
For all information, you can check out the official website.
Le Cornelle
Le Cornelle Wildlife Park is located in the province of Bergamo and is a zoological garden as well as a conservation center for endangered species.
The park is large and well organized : it can be visited on foot, and if you wish, you can take the little train for a scenic ride (although the route does not cover the entire park). There are several picnic areas and food stations, and some rides for children. There are many animals; in fact, the park is home to about 120 species , including mammals, birds and reptiles, from all over the world. The symbol of the park is the white Bengal tiger, now completely extinct in the wild. For all information, you can check out the official website.
