Some obvious irritants

I use this app all the time as I am flying quite frequently at the moment but there is one thing bugs the hell out of me. From time to time, when you go to check in for a flight, it still makes you type out your 16 digit Aer club number in order to get credit for a flight. For gods sake developers, it’s 2023. Can you not figure out that if I am logged in to the app, my Aer club card is associated with that login and I am checking in for a flight in my name, that you just automatically use my Aer club number?

Can’t do simple stuff like displaying a multi-city trip

Never mind allowing me to manage a multi-city trip, it won’t even display the details. Why is it that The app can’t do something that most other airline apps do easily? Probably due to similar opaque reasons that have made it impossible (in my past experience) to manage any trip on their website that wasn’t booked directly through Aer Lingus. Or the inability to check in online for a US-bound flight departing Dublin if you have a US passport. Or the way their systems reject bookings made via partner airlines(like United) using airline miles, days after the transaction, even though their API told United’s system that there were seats available. ...I really wish Aer Lingus had used all that money from their rebranding on improving their IT systems and the resulting dismal user experience instead.

Mr daniel Donnellan

I would say that if you could I would think that for a more enjoyable experience that you could pre order food on your European flights especially the breakfast I love it personally the flavours and tastes are Devine except for a fried egg and toast which I understand is hard to be able too make on a plane flying but I do think if people can pre order food it makes the experience with aer lingus more personal because your sitting in your seat and the steward or stewardess brings it right too you without a fuss it's lovely if you could do that that's all I would say otherwise everything is amazing I love flying aer lingus because there's no stress involved like Ryanair lol

How to book Aer Lingus award tickets with Avios

Nicky Kelvin

Aer Lingus sits in a curious position. It is owned by the same parent company as British Airways (IAG) but yet is not a Oneworld member . This doesn't preclude a loyal British Airways Avios collector from benefiting from Aer Lingus , as the Irish flag carrier also uses Avios as its frequent flyer mileage currency.

What's more, you can freely transfer Avios between your British Airways Executive Club Account , and your Aer Lingus Aer Club account.

Further reading : How to Transfer Your Avios Between British Airways, Iberia and Aer Lingus Accounts

But how do you use Avios to book Aer Lingus flights?

Why should I use my Avios on Aer Lingus?

Aer Lingus provides a fantastic way to use Avios with lots of route options and, most importantly, low taxes . In fact, the taxes payable are generally far lower than what you would see on similar routes with BA.

The product can also be pretty great. I tried out the Aer Lingus A321 business class from Dublin (DUB) to Philadelphia (PHL) , which cost just 50,000 Avios and $151.60 in tax and it was a fantastic flight. TPG U.K. social media lead Liam was on the same flight in economy and paid just 13,000 and $129.70 for a clean and fresh cabin and nice experience.

Aer Lingus has a comprehensive North American route network, and when flying Aer Lingus from Dublin or Shannon to the U.S., you have the added bonus of being able to clear U.S. immigration in Ireland. So when you arrive in the U.S., you do so as a domestic passenger without having to clear immigration or customs.

How do I book an Avios ticket on Aer Lingus?

There are some nuances to understand if you want to book Aer Lingus tickets using Avios.

Firstly, you can't search availability or book Aer Lingus tickets on BA.com . You also can't book reward tickets on the Aer Lingus or Aer Club websites.

To use your Avios on Aer Lingus, you need to call up British Airways, which is becoming increasingly difficult at the moment, given the coronavirus crisis.

aer lingus my trips

But in order to avoid long wait times on the phone with BA, the trick is that you can easily search availability and book tickets on Avios.com.

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to book Avios.com tickets:

1. Sign up for an Aer Lingus Aer Club account. It's free, fast, easy and you can do so right here .

aer lingus my trips

2. This is the counterintuitive part. You will need to head to Avios.com and log in to your Aer Club account from there.

aer lingus my trips

3. Once you've logged in, you can search availability to find the Aer Lingus flights you want and check how many Avios you will need for your route and class.

aer lingus my trips

4. Assuming your Avios are sitting in a BA Executive Club Account (or Iberia Plus account), you will then need to transfer the Avios into Aer Club using the Combine my Avios function, which can be found here . You must sign in to each of your accounts and then transfer the points into the correct place.

aer lingus my trips

5. Finally, you can head back to the search page, find your flights, and book. Easy peasy.

aer lingus my trips

The whole process is a little fiddly, but the rewards of more routes, low taxes and a great product make this method a must in the arsenal of any miles and points collector.

If you want to increase the number of Avios in your account, remember that you can transfer points from American Express Membership Rewards to British Airways Executive Club at a 1:1 rate. In other words, 5,000 Membership Rewards points can be transferred to become 5,000 Avios.

The Most Notable New Airline Routes This Week

Welcome to my 126th weekly routes article! I was at Routes Europe in Aarhus last week . I have analyzed subjectively exciting services that began in the past week or so, with an emphasis on returning flights.

As always, this article is not about comprehensively covering new or returning routes. It is about choosing a handful that intrigue or are particularly significant.

Etihad A380s are back at JFK

It took more than four years, but Etihad Airways is again using its largest aircraft – the Airbus A380 – between Abu Dhabi and New York JFK. The type is most famous for its three-room The Residence suites.

The double-decker quadjet returned to the 5,967 nautical mile (11,051 km) route on April 22. The 787-9 was used the next day, as the superjumbo only operates 26/27 times each month – so not quite daily.

Want to fly? Get tickets here!

It is on EY1 to New York, which leaves the UAE at 02:55 and arrives at 09:15 local. Returning, EY2 departs at 14:00/14:30 and gets back at 11:00+1/11:30+1. Interestingly, this is the second -largest bank of North American arrivals and departures at Abu Dhabi. In 2023, three-quarters of transit passengers went to/from India and Pakistan.

Etihad previously deployed the double-decker to JFK between November 2015 and March 2020, when the flight numbers EY100/101 and EY102/103 were used. The type operated double daily between June 2017 and September 2018. The route is still twice daily, but the A380 coexists with the 787-9.

Etihad Airways Returns A380 Luxury Three-Room Suite Experience To New York JFK

Ttt: transavia to tbilisi & tirana.

The Georgian capital of Tbilisi has long had non-stop flights to Amsterdam, 1,743 nautical miles (3,228 km) away. Georgian Airways has served it for many years, and the carrier continues to run three times weekly with the 737-700 and 737-800.

The airport pair is noteworthy because it has gained a second airline for the first time since KLM pulled out 18 years ago in 2006. It is because of Transavia, whose twice-weekly, year-round 737-800 Amsterdam-Tbilisi service began on April 20. The A321neo is scheduled to appear on October 30 only, but this may change.

Find flights here!

The launch of Tbilisi came shortly after Transavia restarted flights to another capital city that begins with T: Tirana. It is served three times weekly from Amsterdam and has no direct competition, although Wizz Air serves Eindhoven daily. Transavia previously served Albania between 2017 and 2020.

Take off: China to the Gulf

While international China capacity remains down versus the pre-pandemic years, Chinese airlines are growing quickly in particular markets, including in the Middle East.

On April 16, China Southern began Beijing Daxing to Riyadh (three weekly A330-300). On April 22, the same carrier started flying from Guangzhou to Doha (four weekly 787-9). On April 27, China Eastern inaugurated Shanghai Pudong to Riyadh (three weekly A330-200).

Other routes, such as China Southern between Beijing and Tehran, were due to begin, but it appears that they havent.

While Riyadh's service is due to funding from Saudi Arabia's Air Connectivity Program, with more routes from China starting soon, it is different for Qatar.

China Southern serves Doha to feed its codeshare partner, Qatar Airways, which serves Guangzhou daily itself with the 777-300ER. China Southern is the latest operator to begin flying to Doha. The list also includes Garuda Indonesia, which launched in April.

WestJet begins 4th Atlanta route

Canada’s second-largest airline, WestJet, has served Atlanta – the world’s busiest airport – since May 2019. Until now, it has had three routes, but a fourth started on April 29: Edmonton. It is the first time the Alberta city has had non-stop Atlanta flights, and codeshares with Delta, just like WestJet’s other flights to the hub.

Served daily mainly using the Boeing 737-700, the 1,714 nautical mile (3,175 km) service operates overnight to the US. WS1902 leaves Canada at 00:45 and arrives at 07:06 local. Returning, WS1029 (quite a different flight number) departs at 09:05 and gets back at 11:54. Some of WestJet’s Georgia flights from Calgary and Vancouver also run overnight.

It comes as WestJet begins flights elsewhere, including Regina to Minneapolis.

Edmonton is one of 12 destinations new to or back in Atlanta’s passenger network this year. However, only four are brand-new; the rest have been served before. Aside from Edmonton, Fresno (Delta), Santa Barbara (Delta), and Tweed New Haven (Avelo) are new.

WestJet Begins Its 4th Boeing 737 Route To The Worlds Busiest Airport

South african airways to australia.

On April 28, SAA resumed flying between Johannesburg to Perth for the first time in more than four years. While it operated daily in 2019, it is now three times weekly. This frequency is logical and sensible, although the carrier's lack of aircraft influences it. It uses the A340, renowned for high fuel burn, but it will switch to the A330-300 at some point.

The route, which revolves around demand from South Africans in Perth, means passengers no longer need to fly far out of their way via Singapore or the Middle East. Qantas last served the airport pair in March 2023 but has now reverted to only operating Sydney-Johannesburg.

The schedule has changed. When I examined the route in January , the aircraft was due to arrive back in Johannesburg at 19:35. This arrival time meant it didn't connect on a two-way basis to even its core transit markets.

It now leaves Western Australia at 23:50 and arrives home at 04:45+1, enabling connectivity. There should be better aircraft performance too, given it is the summer season in the Southern Hemisphere.

Aer lingus is back in minneapolis.

Ireland’s flag carrier and sole long-haul operator, Aer Lingus , is back in Minnesota. It resumed the 3,246 nautical mile (6,012 km) link between Dublin and Minneapolis on April 29, with the first roundtrip deploying 16.9-year-old A330-300 EI-DUZ. It was scheduled by the A330-200, which is due to operate all remaining flights.

The plan, for now, is that Minneapolis will be summer-only, ending on October 26, the last day of the northern aviation summer season based on IATA slots. Delta will begin a daily Minneapolis-Dublin Boeing 767-300ER service on May 9, the first time the SkyTeam carrier has served it. Obviously, it is not coincidental.

Get tickets here!

Aer Lingus previously served Minneapolis from July 2019, when it ran daily in the summer using Boeing 757s wet-leased from ASL Airlines Ireland (see the original launch photo below). The route now uses the A330, hence the lower frequency. In the future, it may switch to the A321XLR, leading to more flights and perhaps a year-round service.

Then there's...

As usual, many other routes have started in the past week or so. Among the long list is Air Japan’s inaugural service from Tokyo Narita to Singapore, Norwegian from Copenhagen to Ljubljana, and airBaltic from Tampere to Palma de Mallorca. Palma also welcomed easyJet from Southampton, enabled by the UK airport’s longer runway.

Lufthansa began Munich to Trondheim, Maldivian Male-Colombo, and HK Express launched its first services between its namesake country and Bangkok Don Mueang. Pegasus now serves Maastricht from Antalya, and Aegean links Vilnius with Athens.

Discover is discovering Burgas, AirAsia now serves Jaipur from Kuala Lumpur, and flydubai is flying to Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea International. Ryanair's first flight to Reggio Calabria, one of 31 Italian airports it serves, has landed, while Volotea has opened its latest base at Brest, Blue Islands connects Jersey with the Isle of Man non-stop…

That is all for now, folks. See you next time.

Aer Lingus continues to soar with return to Minneapolis-St. Paul

' src=

Aer Lingus is flying high, as the newly returned Minneapolis St. Paul (MSP) route takes off from Dublin Airport for the first time since it was paused in March 2020.

This restart marks the full restoration of the airline’s pre-pandemic North American network, offering British customers access to even more US gateways.

From today – 29 April 2024 – Aer Lingus will offer four weekly flights between Dublin and Minneapolis St. Paul, with flights operated by the airline’s widebody Airbus A330 aircraft.

Flights have been timed to allow seamless connections to and from the airline’s 15 destinations in Mainland Britain, including London Heathrow, Manchester, Edinburgh, giving customers unrivalled access to Minneapolis.

Customers looking to experience the magic of Minnesota can enjoy one-way fares from the UK from as little as £279, including taxes and charges.

The non-stop service to Minneapolis St. Paul was first launched in July 2019, but was paused less than a year later due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Minneapolis-St. Paul, more commonly known as the ‘Twin Cities’, offers a dynamic combination of both business and leisure.

The thriving business scene boasts strong ties to Ireland, particularly in the biomedical and healthcare sectors, while the metropolitan area is also renowned for its vibrant art, music and culinary scenes.

Whether there for business or pleasure, visitors have a plethora of attractions to enjoy, including the iconic Mall of America or even escaping to the lakes and beautiful parks nearby.

Reid Moody, Aer Lingus Chief Strategy and Planning Officer, said: “Aer Lingus is delighted to welcome the return of Minneapolis-St. Paul to our North American route network.

“There has been a noticeable demand from our passengers for the reinstatement of this route following the temporary pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are dedicated to offering passengers seamless connections between North America and Ireland, and onward from Ireland to the rest of Europe. The re-introduction of this route marks the airline’s full restoration of our pre-pandemic North American network and serves as testament to this commitment.

“Minneapolis-St Paul is a significant business destination within the US and we look forward to once again facilitating corporate links and connectivity between Europe and North America, through our Dublin Hub.”

Aer Lingus’ strategic expansion of its North American network reflects its commitment to its Dublin Hub strategy, offering seamless connections to Europe in addition to connection between North America and Ireland.

Currently, almost half of booked passengers from Minneapolis St. Paul to Dublin plan to connect at Dublin, with top destinations including London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Paris, Amsterdam, Rome, Barcelona, and Berlin.

Flights to the Twin Cities are not only back, but better than ever, due to recent upgrades to the Aer Lingus long-haul flight programme.

A new inflight Business Class menu is inspired by the best Irish cuisine has to offer and has been specially curated based on customer feedback. All dishes are focused on seasonal, sustainably sourced, local produce, as the airline continues to deliver a hearty and healthy meal to passengers.

Business Class passengers will enjoy dishes such as skin-on thyme and parsley chicken supreme, herb-infused roasted pork, flaky pan-fried hake and citrus-marinated salmon.

Those looking for a lighter, or vegetarian, option can also now look forward to a new rich root vegetable and pearl barley stew, served with a seasonal salad. This, and many more new additions are now available for Business Class passengers on long-haul flights.

All passengers can enjoy the perks of the newly enhanced Wi-Fi speeds now connecting to next generation satellites and improving coverage across transatlantic routings.

The expanded entertainment library is sure to please as it has expanded by a third with the addition of more movie blockbusters, documentaries, and the latest TV Shows.
