1986. Se constituye con la denominación Air Europa. Primer vuelo entre Tenerife y Londres.

1991. Un grupo de inversores encabezado por Juan José Hidalgo adquiere la compañía.

1993. Air Europa opera en vuelos regulares domésticos, rompiendo el monopolio de Iberia en España.

1994. Se establece la ruta aérea Madrid-Barcelona desafiando a Iberia en una de sus rutas más rentables.

1995. Air Europa vuela a Londres y a Nueva York, abriéndose al mercado de vuelos internacionales.

1996. Air Europa mantiene más de 750 vuelos regulares semanales y establece nuevas rutas: París, Varadero (Cuba), Salvador de Bahía (Brasil), Asturias, Bilbao y Vigo.

1999. Air Europa incorpora los primeros seis Boeing 737 de nueva generación.

2000. Air Europa incorpora el primer Boeing 767-300 para sus rutas transoceánicas. Comienza sus primeros vuelos en código compartido con la compañía Alitalia, desde MAD y BCN a 11 destinos nacionales.

2003. Air Europa consolida sus acuerdos y alianzas con compañías como Aeropostal, Air France, Air Luxor, Alitalia, Continental Airlines, KLM, Malev, Southern Winds o Tunisair.

2004. Air Europa inicia vuelos directos a Quito, Guayaquil, Praga y Varsovia.

2005. Air Europa Se convierte en la primera aerolínea española en realizar vuelos directos a China.

2007. Air Europa inaugura dos nuevas rutas transoceánicas: Buenos Aires y Río de Janeiro. El 1 de septiembre la compañía entra oficialmente en la alianza SkyTeam.

2008. Se convierte en la primera aerolínea del mundo en participar en el plan de respeto medioambiental AIRE Oceanic Program, con el objetivo de reducir las emisiones de gases nocivos en los vuelos transoceánicos.

2009. Air Europa continúa sumando nuevas rutas a su oferta con Lisboa, Londres, Venecia, Nueva York y Miami. Participa en la segunda fase del programa de respeto medioambiental AIRE Oceanic Program.

2010. Air Europa establece una ruta sin escalas entre Madrid y Lima. En julio pasa a ser miembro de pleno derecho de SkyTeam.

2012. Air Europa recibe dos reconocimientos a la calidad: EMAS a la gestión medioambiental y la calificación Madrid Excelente. Formaliza la adquisición de los ocho Boeing 787 que se incorporarán a la flota a partir de 2016.

2013. Air Europa abre nuevas rutas a Coruña y Montevideo e inicia también la ruta Madrid-Sao Paulo.

2014. Inaugura sus rutas Madrid-Frankfurt y Madrid-Munich, ambas con dos frecuencias diarias. En mayo inicia sus vuelos regulares entre Madrid y San Juan de Puerto Rico, y en junio abre la ruta Madrid-Miami, con una prolongación entre Miami y Punta Cana. A finales de año se une Oporto y Ouarzazate, en el sur de Marruecos, a la red de destinos de la aerolínea.

2015. Air Europa anuncia un nuevo encargo a Boeing de catorce 787-9 Dreamliner, que se suman a los ocho B787-8 ya adquiridos por la aerolínea. Inicia los vuelos desde Madrid a Tel Aviv y a Asunción, así como vuelos diarios a Miami con un Boeing 787 alquilado a LOT. Empieza también el plan de modernización con la presentación de su nueva imagen y el nuevo programa de fidelización Air Europa SUMA. Se convierte en la primera compañía aérea española en dotar a toda su flota de desfibriladores. La compañía alcanza nuevos acuerdos de código compartido con Korean Air, Avianca Brasil, Seaborne y Air Serbia e inicia sus vuelos entre las Islas Baleares. Air Europa Express inicia sus operaciones.

2016. Air Europa se convierte en la primera compañía aérea española en incorporar a su flota un 787 Dreamliner. A final de año inaugura nuevas rutas a Zúrich, Bogotá, Guayaquil y Córdoba.

2017. Air Europa inaugura su nueva ruta a San Pedro Sula y se convierte en la primera aerolínea europea que ofrece una conexión directa entre Honduras y España. Empieza los vuelos interislas Canarias y abre ruta a Recife (Brasil) y Marrakech.

2018. Atmosfair, la organización alemana medioambiental que clasifica anualmente las 200 aerolíneas más grandes del mundo en función de su eficiencia climática; sitúa a Air Europa como la primera aerolínea europea de red más eficiente. En el ranking de Atmosfair, Air Europa se alza también en tercera posición entre todas las aerolíneas de red del mundo, lo que evidencia el firme compromiso medioambiental de la aerolínea. Air Europa Express se coloca, por su parte, en el segundo puesto del ranking de las compañías regionales más eficientes y en el primero a nivel europeo. Air Europa abre rutas a Quito, Düsseldorf, Venecia y Eilat. Desde finales de año, comercializa el transporte de mercancías en sus aviones a través de su nueva unidad Air Europa Cargo.

2019. Air Europa Primera compañía internacional en obtener una licencia para operar vuelos domésticos en Brasil. Air Europa y Air France-KLM firman un acuerdo de Joint Venture para sus vuelos entre Europa y América Central y del Sur. Este acuerdo permite ampliar sus ofertas y mejorar las oportunidades de viaje de sus respectivos clientes. Lidera el proyecto piloto de embarque biométrico en el Aeropuerto de Mahón (Menorca). Abre nuevas rutas a Panamá, Medellín, Iguazú, Casablanca y Túnez.

2020. Air Europa mejora la experiencia WiFi a sus pasajeros permitiendo estar conectado durante todo el vuelo, sin límite de tiempo ni de megas. La aerolínea consigue la certificación PCI-DDS, que acredita la máxima protección de los datos de sus clientes.

2021. Air Europa Mantenimiento logra la certificación FAA Repair Station para acometer las reparaciones y revisiones de los aviones comerciales que operan bajo regulación americana desde sus bases de Madrid y Barcelona.

2022. Air Europa inicia una nueva etapa de expansión e incorpora cinco nuevos Boeing 787 Dreamliner y seis Boeing 737, lo que le permite reforzar aún más su papel estratégico en el hub del Aeropuerto de Madrid-Barajas y consolidarse como compañía clave en la conexión entre Europa y América. La aerolínea da un paso de gigante al lanzar, junto a TravelX, el primer billete aéreo en formato NFT, por el que es premiada en los FTE Pionner Awards 2022, y al participar en el primer envío de carga aérea a Latinoamérica gestionado de forma totalmente digital.

2023. El programa de fidelización Air Europa Suma alcanza los 2 millones de clientes en todo el mundo. La aerolínea aterriza por primera vez en Santorini, doblando con esta operativa su presencia en Grecia en temporada estival. En su compromiso con el desarrollo sostenible, pasa a formar parte del Consejo Rector de la Alianza para la Sostenibilidad del Transporte Aéreo y crea el bosque ‘Air Europa’ en Riba de Saelices, Guadalajara. La cocina de Martín Berasategui llega también a la clase Turista de Air Europa y la aerolínea activa un sistema de pujas para disfrutar de su clase Business. Firma de un acuerdo multimodal con iryo que permite comprar viajes combinados de tren y avión en un único billete. También en este año, Air Europa recibe la calificación de aerolínea de cuatro estrellas de APEX, recibe el sello “Empresa Solidaria” de Manos Unidas y obtiene un doble galardón con su vuelo más sostenible del año en “The Sustainable Flight Challenge” de SkyTeam.

After Vueling and Iberia , Air Europa Lneas Aéreas, S.A.U, more known as Air Europa, is Spain’s third-biggest airline. The company has its primary base at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport and subsidiary target locations at Tenerife North Airport and Palma de Mallorca Airport.
