With a transcendent vocal, down-to-Earth storytelling and a Heaven-sent desire to glorify Jesus, Anne Wilson is one of Nashville’s most inspiring young trailblazers – a Lexington, Ky. native mixing the heart of Contemporary Christian Music, and the sound of Country. Finding her musical mission in the wake of tragedy, Wilson delivered her first public performance at 15 while singing “What a Beautiful Name” at her brother’s funeral in a moving expression of faith which soon went viral. Called in that moment to continue on, her 2021 debut single, “My Jesus,” marked the arrival of a new star, fusing personal conviction with upbeat roots energy to become a GOLD-certified No.1 on Billboard’s Christian Airplay chart. The track made Wilson the first debut female solo artist in chart history to reach No.1 and went on to be named ASCAP’s 2022 Christian Music Awards Song of the Year. Now boasting more than 435M global career streams, her rise is gaining momentum.

It was a great performance by one half of the Wilson Sister Act. Ann rocked the house and played for 2 hours, which was great because I felt like I got my money's worth. The venue was hot but none of that seemed to matter once she took the stage. No opening act, no gimmicks or special effects, just Ann Wilson and her band. She sang a mixed set consisting of rock and blues. Her voice is still in top form and she knows how to rock! And her wardrobe change was not too diva-ish. Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears eat your HEARTS out! Ann Wilson is the First Lady of rock! Long may she and sister Nancy reign!

The first time I saw "Heart" in concert back in 1977 (I was 14) I was completely blown away by Ann Wilson's amazing vocal ability. 40 years, 15 Heart concerts and one "Ann Wilson Thing" concert later I am still in awe of Ann Wilson. After seeing over 135 concerts, I believe Ann Wilson is far and above the best female lead vocalist of today. She can belt out every note in "Crazy on You" now just as she did 40 years ago. That is NOT an easy song to sing, believe me. Ann Wilson ROCKS!

I've seen heart quite a few times and they always do well.

I think that Ann Wilson not only performs with Heart but with heart. She always gives her all to her performances. This was a nice mix of old, new, and cover songs. Many done in a different style but all done from a place deep inside.

Vocally she is still a tremendous artist and has a great stage presence and connects with the audience.

She started directly on time, few performers do. When you go to an Ann Wilson concert, expect her to start at least a minute early. The only disappointing thing was Barracuda was her first song. I wish she would've saved it until the end. Overall, the entire performance was good. She's older so her voice isn't what it used to be. 6/10.

Ann Wilson’s Busy 2022: New Album, ‘Fierce Bliss,’ Tour

ann wilson tour 2022

“Greed,” says Wilson in a Feb. 8 press release announcing the album, “is that thing in our animal nature that makes us want more. Whether it be money, sex, power or ecstasy, it fires our craving! It happens with all of us. When you turn around and catch yourself making decisions because you want the money, or because you’re caught in the headlights of glory, well, those are greedy moments.”

Wilson smashed boundaries with her band Heart, the eight-times platinum, 35 million-plus-selling Rock and Roll Hall of Fame trailblazers who formed in 1973.

ann wilson tour 2022

“I had the idea for the Queen song ‘Love of My Life’ as a duet, so I just tried to picture who would be ‘the male angel’ that would sing the other part of it,” explains Wilson. “I thought how great the song would be if it was stripped down and just sung with soul, and it had to be Vince Gill because he’s got that voice, that soul.”

Wilson continues, “I’d known Warren Haynes from Gov’t Mule for a while. We’d written a couple songs together with Gov’t Mule playing, and those rounded out the record. So all of a sudden, where there was no record before, suddenly I had eleven cool songs that I really liked.”

Of the track “A Moment in Heaven,” Wilson says, “It’s one of those anti-Hollywood screed things, the meat grinder of the music image maker machine and what it feels like to be on the inside of that. All of a sudden, it’s ‘happening’ on all thrusters, you’ve got a number one record and everyone’s pouring champagne telling you how much you ‘deserve this.’ You’re in heaven! But then the cruel reality comes down… what’s the next one? Can you follow that? It’s all about the short-lived glamour and ecstasy of being successful in the rock business.”

“As the World Turns” is a showcase for her great voice.

CONCERT REVIEW: One Part of HEART Rocks Like the Whole Thing – ANN WILSON Lights Up the Florida Night (June 17th, 2022)

ann wilson tour 2022

Legends never grow old, they simply watch the world change around them and occasionally change with it, or at least that’s the lesson that the audiences that have witnessed the spring tour of Ann Wilson on the heels of her most recent solo album “Fierce Bliss.” It’s a fitting title for an album that embodies the fire and the beauty that has endured throughout this rock icon’s tenure in the studio and live circuit since the mid-1970s, two attributes that have not been blunted in the slightest in the decades that would follow. In the aftermath of the Covid-19 lockdowns, the appropriately dubbed Rite of June mini-tour has now reached the latter half of said month, and a stop in the Fort Lauderdale area on the 17 th of said month would bring a few interesting twists on a set that could be best described as a full dose of nostalgia with a side order of present day pizzazz, all communicated with the level of fervor that one would expect of an artist half Ann ’s current age.

It goes without saying that this elite veteran of hard rock speaks the language that goes with the art in a truly boisterous and powerful manner, but the degree that this has endured as she enters her early 70s is nothing short of amazing. Along for the ride is a level of control and versatility that goes with an extensive career spanning nearly five decades, as demonstrated by the highly varied repertoire of selections by Heart , Led Zeppelin , Jeff Buckley , Queen , The Who and her own solo work that graced this Friday night event. One would naturally be remiss not to give credit to her highly competent instrumental collaborators, which would include guitarist and co-producer of her latest album Tony Bukovac , all of whom performed in the most exemplary of fashions as they set out to recall the plethora of stylistic niches that typified all of the bands from yesterday and further back that either inspired Ann ’s career or coincided with it at some point between the 70s and 90s.

Though this mini tour has tended to feature a similar collection of high grade slabs of rock nostalgia, one of its most potent charms is the regular re-ordering and reshuffling of the deck, imbuing a sense of old school spontaneity to go with the lion’s share of throwback selections. Beloved Heart banger “Magic Man” would find its way into a slightly earlier part of the set than previous evenings as the fourth number, arriving to heavy cheers and elation as a faithful and near flawless execution of the 1975 breakout hit. Similar reactions were elicited with the entry of other mega hits from the same era in the galloping rock beast “Barracuda” and the intricate and infectious fanfare of “Crazy On You”. Ann ’s voice would really be put to the test with the contrasting presentations of the heavily subdued Jeff Buckley song “Forget Her”, the wildly dynamic power-balladry of Queen ’s “Love Of My Life” and the jagged-edged grit and grandeur of The Who ’s “Love Reign Over Me” , but the end result was a resounding triumph that seemed all but totally effortless.

Yet when all was said and done, the final word would prove to be the most potent part of this highly engaging performance. Opting to substitute out a closing favorite from prior appearances on this tour, Led Zeppelin ’s “Black Dog” would find itself replaced by the even better known rock radio staple “Stairway To Heaven” , performed with an arrangement that perfectly mirrored even the choir of recorders featured in the acoustic first half of this prototypical power ballad. Ann ’s performance was the obvious center of attention with frequent ornamentation of Robert Plant ’s original interpretation of the song in tow and no shortage in the power department despite being at the tail-end of a fairly long set, but the rest of the band proved highly animated and filled the roles of Page , Jones and Bonham adequately. It was an all too familiar refrain for all in attendance, but realized so proficiently that it could have easily silenced any naysayers quoting the famous “No Stairway” joke from Wayne’s World were any to have been in attendance.

Arguably the greatest take away from this stellar occasion was that one is never too old to bring down the house, and retirement is only a viable option when one is heading down for the dirt nap. Though roughly 90% of what was heard hearkened back to a bygone era and rode the nostalgia wave to the proverbial finish line, it should be noted that entries from Wilson ’s aforementioned 3 rd solo album such as the punchy rocker “Greed” and the haunting ballad with a rough edge “Black Wing” were extremely well received despite a lack of out of tune voices insisting on singing along with every last note. The Ann Wilson legacy may be firmly rooted in the glory days of the 1970s and to a lesser extent in her subsequent association with various players during the 90s, but the tree that is her career is still branching out and bearing leaves in the present. Whatever may lay ahead, this is an elder purveyor of the art that is still treading onward, and all who have been privileged to witness the new paths being beaten can only hope for more.

Wilson , known the world over as a founder and the lead singer-songwriter of the barrier-breaking band HEART , is here to stay.

Widely praised among the greatest singers in the history of rock, Ann 's extraordinarily powerful voice has been sending chills down her audience's collective spine for over five decades, earning record sales of more than 35 million, an induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame , and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement award.

"Barracuda" , "Crazy On You" and "Magic Man" are among the many songs she's written that now reside in the pantheon of rock's greatest hits. "Greed" from 2022's "Fierce Bliss" plays seamlessly alongside the classics in her current live set.

This past year, Ann sang with DISTURBED frontman David Draiman on the duet "Don't Tell Me" from the band's recently released "Divisive" album and lent her voice to Dolly Parton 's forthcoming rock record. From "Dreamboat Annie" to DISTURBED , to Dolly Parton and beyond, Ann Wilson defies genre.

Prior to starting their summer tour, ANN WILSON & TRIPSITTER has been putting the finishing touches on a new album of original material.

This year, Ann brings her show to venues everywhere with the same vigor and verve that she brought that one memorable night in front of LED ZEPPELIN at The Kennedy Center.

Ann Wilson  is adamant that Heart will one day reunite onstage, but first there's a few wrinkles to iron out.

The 71-year-old rock legend spoke with ET's Rachel Smith at Smoakstack Studios in Nashville and opened up about what's keeping Heart from officially getting back onstage. She also spoke about her upcoming solo album, Fierce Bliss , which drops April 29.

But first, the reunion. Wilson tells ET the topic around reuniting is a revolving conversation.

"Yeah, we're always in talks about that," Wilson admits. "Right now, we don't see eye to eye on who would be in the backup band, who would be onstage with us. I want these guys and Nancy [Wilson], right? And she's got a whole other bunch of people out there on the West Coast that she wants, so we're just working on [it] ... but Heart will play again for sure."

For the uninitiated, the rock band was conceived in the late 1960s in the Pacific Northwest and underwent various name changes before officially becoming Heart in 1973. The following year, Wilson and her sister, Nancy, joined the group to become the first female-fronted hard rock band. The group had just over two dozen members who came and went over the course of its storied run, but the core of the group -- Michael Derosier, Howard Leese, Steve Fossen, Roger Fisher and the Wilson sisters -- achieved commercial success in just about every decade, sold more than 35 million records worldwide and saw its induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2013. The band has been on a hiatus for several years now.

To this day, Wilson's still most fond of the band's 1976 single "Crazy on You," off its debut album, Dreamboat Annie . The sisters will celebrate five decades of Heart next year. But, in the interim, Wilson's keeping busy with her own projects, which includes the  An Evening With Ann Wilson of Heart & The Amazing Dawgs tour. The 27-city tour kicks off May 4.

"Greed" -- from her new album,  Fierce Bliss  -- will be one of the new tracks fans will get to indulge when she goes on tour, and the origin of the song has a familiar story. In short, Wilson says she wrote it from an angry place, and if that sounds familiar, it's because she followed that exact same process for Heart's 1977 hit, "Barracuda."

Wilson wrote "Barracuda" in anger following her record label's publicity stunt gone wrong. According a 2018 story in Rolling Stone , the band's record label planted a full-page ad in the venerable magazine that framed the sister duo "as an incestuous gimmick."

"That pissed us off," Wilson told the magazine at the time. "It went against everything we were trying to initiate, trying to invent -- and the fact that our first time in [ Rolling Stone ] had that lascivious implication. For [this promoter] to imagine us together in an incestuous lesbian relationship -- the sleaze factor really dawned on me in that moment. Those lyrics were written by my true nature, in true rage."

So, it's worth asking -- what led to the new single, "Greed"?

"Well, I don't want to [give] too much information here," Wilson said, "but it was a marital thing. In this moment of extreme trust and vulnerability, my husband told me I was being too greedy. And I went, 'OK.'"

Triggered by anger, Wilson flowed her emotions to paper and out came "Greed."

"'Greed' is more global than that," Wilson later explained. "If you look at what's going on in our country, all the division and the blitz and all this kind of stuff, it's all about money. Who wants to dominate, you know? It's all about greed. I can understand how [greed] is part of human nature. It's the animal part of our nature, maybe, where we always want more, more, more. And I think most people have gone through that in some way in their lives, whether it be drugs or alcohol or shopping, sex or whatever it is. You know, they just want more."

Ann Wilson Sings Her Heart Out on Solo Tour: Recap, Photos + Video

The Heart singer was joined by surprise guest Warren Haynes at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY

Ann Wilson Sings Her Heart Out on Solo Tour: Recap, Photos + Video

With Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson touring separately this year, Heart fans have two different opportunities to see the legendary sisters in concert. Apparently, the two couldn’t agree on a backing band to tour as Heart this year, and, as a result, Ann is currently headlining a solo tour, while Nancy will be supporting Styx on a fall run. In a recent interview, Ann assured fans that she and Nancy will come together in 2023 to celebrate Heart’s 50th anniversary, but in the meantime, it marks a chance to see one of rock’s great voices perform in relatively intimate venues.

On Wednesday night (July 27th), Ann Wilson and her backing band, The Amazing Dawgs, headlined the beautiful Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York. With no opening act, Ann and company took the stage at 8:15 p.m. and dove straight into Heart’s “Even It Up,” immediately showing that at age 72, the singer’s voice is as strong as ever.

Two songs from her recent solo album, Fierce Bliss — the mid-tempo “Black Wing” and the hard-hitting “Greed” — worked their way into the early part of the show among Heart songs like “Love Alive” and the ubiquitous “Magic Man,” as did a cover of the Jeff Buckley tune “Forget Her.”

However, it was a cover of The Who’s “Love, Reign O’er Me” that proved to be the most powerful moment of the opening set. Ann delivered a mind-blowing vocal on the dramatic ballad, making the song her own, and wowing the audience in the process. That led to a well-deserved break for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame singer, as she announced a 30-minute intermission following her breathtaking performance of the Who classic.

Ann and her band returned to kick off the second half of the show with the Heart classic “Crazy on You,” with the singer continuing to hit the big notes just as if it was 1976. A few covers followed, including a rendition of Robin Trower’s “Bridge of Sighs” that featured surprise guest guitarist Warren Haynes (Gov’t Mule, The Allman Brothers Band).

Of course, the night wouldn’t be complete with the signature Heart song “Barracuda,” which closed out the main set. After a very short break. Ann and her band returned for an encore, beginning with Heart’s “Straight On,” in which she worked a bit of David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance.”

Then it was a 1-2-3 punch of Led Zeppelin covers that ended the night. While “Going to California” and the set-closer “Black Dog” had been staples of the current tour, fans in Port Chester got an added bonus when Haynes came out again for “Immigrant Song,” which was sandwiched in the middle of the other two Zeppelin tunes.

On the way out of the venue, fans were gushing about Ann’s vocals, with remarks like, “I can’t believe she’s 72 and still sings like that!” With a fine backing band that did the Heart songs and the other tunes a tremendous amount of justice, it was Ann Wilson’s powerhouse voice that rightfully took center stage throughout the entire concert.

Ann Wilson’s tour continues through late September, and includes dates opening for ZZ Top. Tickets to select shows are available via Ticketmaster . See photos, fan-filmed video clips, and the setlist from the Port Chester gig below.
