News: ASAP Ferg Announces Aussie Headline Tour

asap ferg tour australia

(AUS) One of hip hop hottest properties, ‘Trap Lord’ A$AP Ferg has declared he will be hitting the road this April – May for a powerhouse headline tour of Australia and New Zealand, including previously announced appearances at Groovin the Moo. Heading to coastal capitals Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Brisbane – plus stops in Wellington and Auckland – tickets for all shows will go on sale at 12pm on Tuesday February 17.

Whether it be Ferg’s energetic and gritty onstage performances, his fierce and feverish recordings, launching clothing and jewelry lines or attending art school, he has constantly bobbed and weaved, rising to the top of the hip hop world. Friends since high school, A$AP Rocky pushed Ferg to get behind the mic as much as possible, joining Harlem’s very own A$AP Mob collective, rocking sold-out tours and teaming up for viral hits ‘Get High’, ‘Kissing Pink’ and ‘Ghetto Symphony’ from Rocky’s 2013 chart-topping major label debut, LONG.LIVE.A$AP.

Stepping into the solo spotlight in 2012, Ferg released his debut studio album for A$AP Worldwide/Polo Grounds Music/RCA the following year – Trap Lord – laying down his hypnotic hood decree over the course of thirteen viscera, vibrant and visionary tracks. The album soared into Billboard chart’s top ten and was named one of the best hip-hop albums of 2014 by Spin Magazine.

A$AP Ferg was formally recognised in 2013 as one of rap’s breakout players when he won BET’s Rookie of the Year award.

A$AP Ferg shares new music video featuring Australian tour footage

A$AP Ferg visited Australia in March

A$AP Ferg

A$AP Ferg has dropped a new freestyle track ‘Feel Some Type of Way’, alongside a music video that compiles footage from his recent Australian tour.

The Harlem rapper visited Australia in March for Hidden Festival, where he also hosted a one-off sideshow in Melbourne. The music video was shot by Jared Leibowitz and edited by Derek Matar, and the track itself was produced by YOUAGOODKID. Watch the video for ‘Feel Some Type of Way’ below:

The new track follows A$AP Ferg’s recently released collaboration with Sydney drill act ONEFOUR, ‘Say It Again’ . Speaking to NME Australia , the group said ‘Say It Again’ was “a song about remaining defiant when the odds are against you”.

“Ferg expressed that he was keen to meet with us as he had seen some of our videos so Hau made the introductions,” said group members J Emz and Spenny.

“Later that night Ferg linked with us at our studio where we shared some music and just chopped it up.”

A$AP Ferg (born October 20 1988) is a Harlem, U.S based rapper who is most famous for being part of the A$AP Mob, a collective that features other well known rappers A$AP Rocky and A$AP Ant.

Ferg, whose real name is Darold Ferguson, started out his career as part of A$AP Mob. Although evidently talented at what he does, he didn't establish himself as an individual artist until 2013 with the release of top ten album “Trap Lord”, which reached number nine in the Billboard 200 and entered the US Rap chart in second place. His most notable single, “Work”, was a track that originally featured on the A$AP Mob mixtape “Lords Never Worry”, and came into the charts at number 100. The remix to his début single was a track on “Trap Lord” and featured big names such as Schoolboy Q and fellow group member A$AP Rocky.

Ferg is known in the U.S rap scene for having a distinct, low pitched tone to his voice with a consistent flow, much like Memphis, US based rapper Juicy J (most famous for the hit “Who Da Neighbours”). He also shares the vocal characteristics and lyrical prowess of his fellow group members in A$AP Mob. Along with A$AP Rocky, he is one of the stand out members of the collective.

Active since 2007, he has already picked up a BET Hip Hop Award for “Rookie of the Year”, an indication that A$AP Ferg has a lot to offer the rap scene in the immediate future as A$AP Mob and his own solo career start to get more recognition.

Live reviews

An A$AP Ferg party has to be the best. No wonder he was added to the list of performers that were scheduled for Atlanta’s A3C Hip Hop Festival in 2013. During the 5-day event, those in the underground hip-hop scene emerge to showcase their talents and in accordance with the promotion of his album Trap Lord, it was fitting that Ferg was there. As apart of the LOUD Music Tour, Ferg was the headliner. QUAD, the small venue where he performed, was packed to capacity. Just next door, a line was tightly wrapped around the building to see Atlanta based rapper, 2 Chainz. Those who couldn’t see 2Chainz left to catch Ferg’s set, hoping to get in. Already humid from the number of people jammed inside, the lights from the stage blared out into the crowd making it even more uncomfortable. The stage was packed with photographers, A3C workers and, more than likely, those that were apart of Ferg’s entourage. The discomfort lasted for only a short while, though, as the artist of the night began his show. Before going into his hits, Ferg asked if the crowd was ready and mentioned that despite being ill, he was glad to be there.

Starting with “Work” and “Dump Dump,” Ferg had already had the crowd operating at a level 10. Fist pumps were synchronized with the hard-hitting bass as he began “Work (Remix),” telling the DJ to cut the song right after Schoolboy Q’s infamous verse, which opens with “Yawk! Yawk! Yawk! Yawk!” In an aggressive tone, Ferg demanded that everyone stop acting too cool to get loose for the Trap Lord intro, “Let It Go.” Closing the show with “Shabba,” Ferg jumped into the crowd only to start a mosh pit. The show built into what seemingly felt like a night at Woodstock in the form of hip-hop basement party. The shows intensity built by the song, as does a beat builds into something major on an epic song and everyone left having enjoyed themselves. Whoever wasn’t there was sure to hear about it the next day and they probably were kicking themselves for missing the coolest party thrown at A3C.

Darold Ferguson, Jr. better known by his stage name ASAP Ferg is a member of the popular hip hop collective ASAP Mob which also including ASAP Rocky. His fan base has grown hugely since the release of his debut 'Trap Lord' in 2013. However before this the rapper had been releasing music underground and had featured on other rapper's tracks.

So there is no doubt that fans pile in whenever he is in town and enthusiastically rap along with the frontman. Ferg really appreciates this and thanks his audience before playing favourites including 'Hood Pope' and 'Let It Go' which turns the crowd into one massive, jumping unit. The atmosphere is a huge hip hop party through and through and Ferguson is happy to guide his crowd through without ever letting the pace drop.

His hype men are on hand to whip up the crowd into an even higher level of frenzy and they almost lose their minds during the heavy bass introductions of 'Shabba' whilst the finale of 'Murda Something' brings on crowd surfing and a reaction that even Ferg is surprised by.

Okay the concert itself was amazing, (from what I saw, I missed most of it because they weren't letting people in or something it was crazy like I had a panic attack on the way in bc it was hot and I was stuck in this huge crowd waiting to get in it was CRAZY!!!) Klipshe has gotten pretty awful to be honest though I'm so unhappy with my experience there (not the performers) they were amazing and that was so much fun! But we waited like an hour to two hours just to get in the doors it was insane and then as soon as we get in they stopped selling alcohol like what the hell? And then it took me two hours to get out when we left! In my opinion this was not worth it!!!! I got to see one song from Migos and then future that's all I got to see so I'm pretty upset! :-(

brytniebytch’s profile image

Honestly that show was pretty wack compared to every other concert I've been to. Literally nobody knew the opener, and he came in acting like he was a headliner, repeating his new song literally 5 times struggling to get the crowd to sing along. IDK was alright, but kinda the same thing, he failed to get a whole lot of energy out of the crowd. Ferg wasn't even as great as I was expecting. All the set times were messed up, the opener and IDK both started and left early, same with Ferg. It's not the venue either, Milwaukee gets lit. Wish I didn't spend $40 and drive 2 hours.

markcorral01’s profile image

He never showed up! OHM falsely advertised the show. We waited for hours from 9-2 am and nothing. To top it all off the whole time they didn't play a single ferg song but right before they closed the DJ played a new song of fergs for a second almost like saying yeah we tricked you and fuck you. Fergenstein is cool but fuck OHM nightclub with their false advertisement asses.

He cancelled the show due to “illness” and I was very dissapointed because I purchased my tickets all the way back in December during the spotify presale just for him to cancel last minute. He cancelled it the day of a couple hours before the show was scheduled and I am just very dissatisfied with this unfortunate occurrence.

A$AP Ferg was a highlight in the Nobody Safe Tour. The best part of his performance is how much he played in the crowd. I was lucky to be within 10 feet of him and he is such a good rapper and person to see live. I would recommend going to see him if you're lucky enough for him to come to you're city.

Amazing. Simply amazing, performance had energy, got the crowd involved and the performers were awesome. Crowd was full and energetic and the performance made me want to stay and keep seeing what surprised would come. 10/10 probably my favorite show I’ve been to would highly recommend.

This show was honestly amazing! I don't really know the people who opened for him, but A$AP Ferg put on a damn good show and he deserves so much more notoriety than he gets! He's amazing and his performance was so beyond anything!!
