Why Travel To Kenya? Best Things About Kenya Safari

Kenya is home to some of Africa’s most iconic landscapes and wildlife. The Indian Ocean coastline stretches for hundreds of kilometers, with palm-fringed beaches and turquoise waters. Inland, the vast savannah is punctuated by acacia trees and is home to big cats, elephants, and buffalo. The Great Rift Valley is a dramatic landscape of escarpments, lakes, and volcanoes. And finally, Kenya’s 21 national parks protect a diversity of ecosystems, from arid deserts to montane forests. Private conservancies are also an important part of Kenya’s conservation effort and provide vital habitat for many endangered species. With so much to offer, it’s no wonder that Kenya is one of Africa’s top tourist destinations.

1. The Great Migration, one of nature’s most incredible wonders, sees around 1.5 million wildebeest make their annual journey between July and October.

2. The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Nairobi is an orphanage for baby elephants and rhinos, preparing them for their eventual return to the wild.

3. The Maasai people are one of Kenya’s most recognizable ethnic groups, known for their colorful traditional dress and beadwork.

Kenya is among Africa's most unique and beautiful countries. You'll discover the unspoiled wilderness and internationally-significant areas where wildlife roams freely, including rare and endangered species such as the Big Five, thanks to sustainable tourism and a worldwide recognized approach to wildlife management. Visit Kenya and take in all that Africa has to offer.

Kenya's curiosity and adventure date back to the dawn of time, stretches through miles of white sand beaches and takes visitors through lush woods and diverse deserts. Kenya offers you an African dream journey of a lifetime, from the highest peaks to the deepest ocean depths.

Visa requirements for Dubai residents and locals to Kenya

If you are a UAE passport holder, you need a visa to enter Kenya. You can get a visa through evisa or on arrival. The best option is to get the visa throughevisa, which is electronic. If you need help, you can reach us for assistance.

Important to note that the Kenyan electronic visa for UAE nationals is issued to those entering Kenya for medical treatment, business, and tourists.

The electronic visa does not function as a multiple-entry visa. UAE nationals who wish to enter Kenya on more than one occasion must submit a new visa application.

Climate in Kenya

The coastal climate is tropical, characterized by warm temperatures and heavy humidity. The weather in the lowlands is typically hot and dry, while the highlands have a more temperate climate.

In contrast to the rest of the country, the mountainous regions have four distinct seasons. The seasons are separated into wet and dry seasons in places other than the United States, rather than the typical summer, fall, winter, and spring.

Despite Kenya's diverse climates, a few guidelines may be applied uniformly across the country. The monsoon winds, which serve to reduce the discomfort produced by the high temperatures along the shore, govern the weather in Kenya.

The winds also influence the country's rainy seasons, from April to June. A second, shorter rainy season occurs during November and December.

During the intervening dry months, the hottest months are December to March and the coolest months are July to October. Rainstorms in Kenya are generally violent but fleeting, with bright spells interspersed between the storms.

When is the best time to travel to Kenya?

The best time to visit Kenya is between July and September, when the country's dry season is in full force, and the Great Migration of wildebeest and zebra passes through.

The rainy seasons are also ideal times to visit because fewer people can enjoy the beautiful emerald vegetation. In particular, December is an excellent time to visit Kenya because the rains are brief, and you can observe baby animals and migratory bird species in their native habitat. Only the strongest rains, which fall during the 'long rains' in March, April, and May, are particularly heavy.

The best time to visit Kenya for a safari is from June through October, as the climate is dry. However, the time may change because sometimes weather or climate change.

How to get around Kenya

Kenya has a lot to offer for everyone, and there several places to tour. The following are the best ways to get around in Kenya, whether ending to the Northern region or the cost.

If you're on a budget getting around in Kenya by plane is the fastest and most pleasant mode of transportation. A few domestic airlines to pick from connect the most popular safari sites with the coast and provide services to the rest of the country.

Some more upscale safari lodges have their airstrips and rely on small planes run by private air charter companies to transport their guests from Nairobi or Mombasa to their locations in the bush.

Also, keep in mind that flights to the parks and reserves operate on circuits, which means that not all passengers will necessarily a light at the same airstrip: the plane may touch down at a few different airstrips along the route, resulting in a variation in flight times and arrival order.

Nonetheless, flying across Kenya (especially to the parks) saves time and money by avoiding long, bumpy road trips. Each airline makes every effort to deliver you to your destination on time and without incident.

Rental of a vehicle

There is no restriction on private cars in any parks or reserves, and there is a lot to be said about the freedom of choice that comes with hiring a car. However, unless you have a group of more than two people, it will not save you money compared to one of the more affordable camping safaris.

Before renting, check about the best discounts and try to haggle as you would with any other purchase, considering how long you'll need the space and the season you'll be using it.

By Train: SGR

The beautiful SGR train (Standard Gauge Railway), often known as the Madaraka Express, runs from Nairobi down to Mombasa, and it is a sight to behold.

It is a clean, rapid, and inexpensive mode of transportation ideal for long-distance travel. It makes stops in a number of towns on the way between the metropolis and the seashore.

By bus or matatu

The public bus system serves the entire country and is inexpensive, making it the most popular mode of transportation for Kenyans traveling throughout the country.

Matatus are privately owned minibusses (and road rage-inducing vehicles) that travel on the same routes as buses but under their own set of rules and regulations. They will run a relaxed jump-on and jump-off system with complete disregard for road safety, and they will be gaudily painted and blasting music as they do so.

The larger buses are safer and run on a more rigid schedule than the smaller buses. Paying for buses and matatus is done on the bus or matatu.

Taxis and Uber are readily available in most cities, usually reasonably priced. Uber drivers can be unreliable; I've had drivers fail to show up, arrive late, or arrive with other passengers on countless occasions.

Taxis (cars) and Boda Bodas (motorbikes) can be seen roving the streets or at street corners/meeting locations throughout the city. Prices vary; it is advisable to negotiate in advance.

Nairobi Serena Hotel

Serena Hotel is a standout among the most opulent hotel. There are 183 spacious rooms with plenty of natural light and modern amenities such as TVs, Wi-Fi, and iPod docks, among other things.

The warm, Art-Deco-inspired room makeup is stunning, especially when paired with the African-Moroccan designs and themes.

Panari hotel

The Panari Hotel, with its 136 rooms, is a model of excellence and wealth - from the magnificent, fantastic entryway with chimneys and marble parts to the expensive and comfortable chambers.

Furthermore, the venue is well-suited for conventions, since it has 20 fully-equipped conference rooms available.

Best things to do in Kenya

Even though many know Kenya as one of Africa's best safari destinations, still, there is much more to offer, from wildlife and beaches on the Pacific Ocean to mountain treks to a fascinating culture.

There are dozens of places in Kenya worth visiting, but you don’t have all the time in the world. Thus we have researched for you the best things to do in Kenya.

Tour Maasai Mara National Reserve

The Maasai Mara National Reserve is one of Africa's most stunning game reserves, with some of the most beautiful species on the planet. The Serengeti's northern extension, the Mara National Reserve, borders Tanzania and serves as a wildlife corridor between the two nations.

Mara is a word in their language that means "mottled," which could reference the play of light and shadow generated by the acacia trees and cloud-strewn skies across the broad grassland expanse.

The Great Migration, one of the events that attract tourists every from July to October and involves thousands of wildebeest, zebra, and Thomson's gazelle migrating between the Serengeti and other parts of Africa, is well-known in the Serengeti.

Hippos and crocodiles flourish in the Mara River, where they can be found in large numbers. The park is also well-known for providing spectacular predator sightings, particularly during the dry months of December through February, due to the park's relatively large numbers of lions, cheetah, and leopards. Because of the park's high elevation, the weather is mild and pleasant throughout the year.

Visit the island of Lamu.

Lamu, a small island northeast of Mombasa, has an aura of antiquity about it. Lamu Old Town is Kenya's oldest continuously inhabited settlement, dating back to the 12th century. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Taking a stroll through the city's network of streets is one of the most delightful things to do here. The island's structures testify to the island's long and profitable trading history.

There are architectural features from the Arab world, Europe, and India, but the design has a strong Swahili influence. This location is known for its intricately carved wooden doors, coral stone constructions, hidden courtyards, verandas, and rooftop patios.

When you come here to see the sites, it's like going back in time. Dhows are still plowing the port, and there are few, if any, motorized vehicles on the roadways. The streets are still ruled by donkeys, as they have been for ages. The majority of Lamu's population is Muslim, and both men and women dress in traditional clothing.

The Lamu Museum, the Lamu Fort, and the Donkey Sanctuary are among the island's most popular attractions, including Swahili culture and maritime history. If all of the histories are too much for you, you may unwind on one of the island's white-sand beaches or sip Arabic coffee at one of the many cafés and eateries.

Visit the Nairobi National Park

Nairobi National Park, which is approximately 15 minutes from Nairobi's, offers tourists the chance to observe a snoozing pride of lions or a stunning giraffe frolicking across the golden grass.

If you're staying in Nairobi, this wildlife-rich park is one of the most popular things to do, and it makes for a rewarding day trip if you can't make it to one of the larger game reserves.

You can see some of the world's most endangered species, such as the black and white rhinoceros, at the park's rhino sanctuary. The typical safari stars, including buffalo, leopard, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, elephants, and cheetah, can also be seen.

While visiting the Nairobi Safari Walk is enjoyable, birders will be glad to learn that the park is home to over 400 different species of birds, like the gorgeous grey crowned crane visible in the distance.

A trip to the park wouldn't be complete without a stop at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Elephant Nursery, which lies just outside the main entrance. Remember to pay a visit to the Giraffe Centre, which is close to the famed Giraffe Manor, where you may feed these long-necked beauties right from your hands.

Relax in Diani beach

On Kenya's southern coast, Diani Beach stretches for 11 miles (17 kilometers) and is largely recognized as East Africa's most beautiful and pristine beach. It has white powdery sand, palm palms, azure sea, and a colorful coral reef.

It's the perfect place to relax for a few days after a safari or a day of sightseeing in Mombasa, which is only a short drive away. There are a number of activities available, including kitesurfing and jet skiing, as well as snorkeling and scuba diving, for those who find swinging in a hammock to be insufficiently exciting.

Hiking in Mount Kenya

Hiking Mount Kenya is Africa's second-highest peak as well as one of Kenya's seven UNESCO World Heritage sites, making it a must-do for any adventure traveler. Although the climb to the mountain is difficult, you will be rewarded with stunning views from the top. You'll see wildlife and magnificent scenery along the way, including glaciers, lakes, and lush woodland, as well as alpine flora and vegetation.

Batian, Nelion, and Point Lenana are among the mountain's highest peaks, each of which may be ascended on a guided 5-day summit expedition with a mountain guide. The most regularly climbed peak is Point Lenana, which stands at 16,355 feet (4,985 meters). Since this is a demanding trek, having a support team with you is essential

Every year, between June and September, millions of wildebeests and zebras migrate into the Mara in search of water. You may see a variety of antelope, including wildebeest and Thomsons and Grant gazelles. The "Big 5" are all found in the Masai Mara, cheetahs, bat-eared foxes, and wide other varieties of wildlife. After lunch, enjoy some leisure time at the lodge, including a refreshing swim in the pool. After an hour in the air, your safari finishes with a champagne breakfast in the bush, cooked on the balloon's burners. Flight may not operate if weather conditions are not suitable. Optional Excursion: Masai Village Tour (purchased locally), $25 This afternoon, get an in-depth look at these colorful and pastoral people in their natural settings. We as a family have many thanks to give to the Kenia Tours team. Everything from start to finish was done seamlessly on their part, and overall allowed us to enjoy our vacation to the max.

The trip to the Maasai Mara was incredible, our driver (Muita) was sensational. We went with the camping option and it was serious glamping and the food was great!

Kenya Tour Packages from Dubai Tips from Safari Experts and FAQ

Only a few hours from UAE, Kenya is frequently visited by travelers from Dubai and other parts of the world. Most tourists use a connecting flight from UAE to Nairobi, meaning that Kenya tourism from Dubai is unmatched in other parts of the globe.

But what do you need to know when traveling to Kenya ? Here are a few travel tips and answers to FAQs by travelers coming from Dubai.

What Vaccinations Do I Need for Kenya Safari?

Before embarking on your Kenya safari from Dubai, you should take two main precautions. These are Yellow Fever and Malaria, two diseases common in some parts of Kenya. The Yellow Fever vaccine is readily available and should be taken at least ten days before you travel to Kenya .

Malaria has no vaccine, but you should consult your doctor for advice on the best preventive medicine to take. Before you embark on your African safari holiday from UAE, we advise that you get a check-up to confirm that you are in good shape for traveling.

Nobody wants to take a sick day during a Kenya safari , that’s for sure!

What Animals do You See on a Safari?

Kenya’s national parks have a high density of wild animals. During your Kenya Safari from Nairobi, you can expect to see the big 5, including lion, rhino, leopard, elephant, and buffalo.

Other animals you can check off your list are hippos, crocodiles, giraffes, Oryx, wild dogs, warthogs, ostriches, crocodiles, zebras, cheetah, hyenas, and monkeys. As a birding enthusiast, you will see many local and migratory bird species.

When Should I visit Kenya?

You can visit Kenya any time and still have a wonderful time. However, the most popular time to come for a Kenya safari from Dubai is between July-October when the wildebeest migration takes place at the Masai Mara.

The park will be fairly crowded at this time, with high excitement and adrenaline. January-March is also a good time as you enjoy dry days and warm nights , perfect for animal viewing.

April-June is the rainy season, and the parks are quieter, but if you are looking for a budget package, this is an excellent time to visit as rates are at their lowest. You might want to spend Christmas and ring in the New Year from the plains of the Masai Mara. This, too, is a great time to visit Kenya.

Which is the Best Time to Visit Masai Mara?

The best time to visit the Masai Mara from UAE is in July-October. This is when the biggest natural spectacle in the world, the wildebeest migration, takes place. Millions of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, and eland make the dangerous crossing of the Mara River from the Serengeti.

Between the crocodiles waiting in the water and the predators waiting on the other side, only the very brave and lucky survive this trip. Great migration is a bucket list item for most people, and we at AJ Kenya Safaris.com Ltd. are happy to help you tick it off your list!

Is Kenya Safe to Visit?

Yes, Kenya is safe to visit. While there might be insecurity in Nairobi, these are far removed from the game reserves you will likely see during the Kenya holiday package from Dubai. The government has also added drastic measures to protect Kenya, its citizens, and visitors.

We acknowledge that security concerns are serious and advise that you monitor and consult before buying any holiday package from Dubai.

How Do You Get from Nairobi to Masai Mara?

There are two main ways to get from Nairobi to Masai Mara . The trip will take 5-6 hours if you choose to go by road. Most road trips depart Nairobi at 6 am to arrive at Masai Mara in time for lunch.

Flying, on the other hand, takes between 45-60 minutes, with flights departing from Wilson Airport in Nairobi. Going by the road allows you to see Kenya’s beautiful countryside, including exciting features like the Great Rift Valley.

Flying gets you there faster, so this is a matter of preference.

Where Do You Fly into for Masai Mara?

There are over 12 airstrips at the Masai Mara. Your travel advisor will plan that you land at the airstrip nearest to your lodge. For example, if you stay at the Olare Motorogi Conservancy adjacent to the reserve, you will land at the Olare Motorogi Airstrip.

If you are staying in the middle of the reserve, you will land at Keekorok airstrip. Most lodges will be within an hour of the airstrip, but you will not even notice as your game drive starts the moment you deplane.

How Much is a Masai Mara Safari?

A Masai Mara safari can cost anywhere from USD 250 to USD 1500 per person per day, depending on several factors. These include the duration of your safari, where you will be staying, mode of transportation, and activities you will be doing.

The time of year is also crucial in determining the price. A Masai Mara Safari package from Dubai will cost more in July-October (peak season) and less in April-June (low season).

The good thing with Kenya is that every pocket has a safari package. You can choose from a budget, semi-luxury, or luxury package, and we will design it to ensure you have the best possible safari.

Where is Masai Mara Located in Kenya?

The Masai Mara Game Reserve i s located in the South-West region of Kenya. It is found in Narok County, where it forms a contiguous with the Serengeti Reserve in Tanzania.

The Masai Mara Reserve is just one part of the Mara ecosystem which comprises other smaller conservancies mostly leased from the Maasai people . Some of these conservancies include Mara North, Enonkishu, and Mara Naboisho.

What is Masai Mara?

Masai Mara is the most popular game reserve in Kenya. It is famous for hosting the great wildebeest migration, one of the most breathtaking natural spectacles in the world.

It is located in Narok County in South West Kenya and is home to thousands of wild animals. The Masai Mara is world-renowned for its luxurious accommodation, unrivaled animal viewing opportunities, and balloon safaris .

What to Pack for a Safari in Kenya

When packing for a Kenya safari tour from Dubai, observe baggage limits, especially for smaller domestic flights. Pack dark-colored clothing that can be worn severally and paired quickly. Long-sleeved t-shirts and long pants are essential for the evenings when bugs might be a menace.

Carry comfortable shoes and a wide-brimmed hat. Remember to pack your toiletries, first aid items, and any prescription medicine you might be taking.

You will also need a camera, extra batteries, and memory cards. We advise that you carry cash in USD, but major credit cards are accepted in most places. To be safe, make physical copies of your most important documents, such as the passport.

Can I Visit Other Parts of Kenya with My Masai Mara Safari Package from Dubai?

Absolutely. A Masai Mara package does not mean you should only visit the reserve. Kenya has many other beautiful places to visit, and we will give you recommendations based on your interests.

One of our most popular packages is the Beach & Bush, where after the bush adventures, we fly you to Kenya’s award-winning Diani Beach to relax on white sandy beaches. If you are a hiking enthusiast, we recommend that you attempt climbing Mt. Kenya or one of the smaller peaks such as the Aberdares or Mt. Longonot.

Some of the best things to do during a Masai Mara safari include game drives, hot air balloon safari, bush dinner, walking safaris , and more. The best time to plan a holiday package from Dubai to Masai Mara is July to November, when the migration is on the Kenyan side.

However, Masai Mara is an all-year destination, and your safari will be successful at any time of the year. If you are looking for a budget Masai Mara safari trip, plan to visit Kenya between April and June. This is the low season, and safari prices drop to as low as USD 150 per person per day.

Historic Floods in Dubai

Dubai in the UAE has been hit by flooding that submerged roads and vehicles and caused flight diversions.

According to the Dubai weatherman, 158mm of rain fell in 24 hours, equivalent to the typical yearly average amount of rainfall received in the area.

Furthermore, on Tuesday, April 16, severe thunderstorms and heavy rain showers in the United Arab Emirates led to the cancelation of flights and delays which affected airports nationwide.

Dubai International Airport had to divert inbound flights due to intensified storms and heavy rain which caused flooding and submerged roads.

According to meteorological data collected at Dubai International Airport, the rains began on Monday, April 15, soaking the sands and roads of Dubai with 20mm of rain.

When is Eid al-Fitr 2024 and how is it celebrated?

The three-day festival celebrates the completion of the fasting month of Ramadan by Muslims across the world.

Interactive_Eid_2024_outside image

As a new moon was not sighted on Monday evening after Maghrib prayers, Muslims in Saudi Arabia and neighbouring countries will fast one more day, completing 30 days of Ramadan. The first day of Eid will then be celebrated on Wednesday, April 10.

The first day of Eid al-Fitr is determined by the sighting of the crescent moon marking the start of the month of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic (Hijri) calendar.

Lunar months last between 29 and 30 days so Muslims usually have to wait until the night before Eid to verify its date.

Other countries follow independent sightings.

When the sighting has been verified, Eid is declared on television, radio stations and at mosques.

How do Muslims celebrate Eid?

Traditionally, Eid is celebrated for three days as an official holiday in Muslim-majority countries. However, the number of holiday days varies by country.

Muslims begin Eid day celebrations by partaking in a prayer service that takes place shortly after dawn, followed by a short sermon.

On their way to the prayer, which is traditionally held in an open area, Muslims recite takbeerat, praising God by saying “Allahu Akbar”, meaning “God is great”.

It is customary to eat something sweet before the prayer, such as date -filled biscuits known as maamoul in the Middle East. This particular festival is known as the “sweet” Eid – and the distribution of sweets is common across the Muslim world.

Muslims usually spend the day visiting relatives and neighbours and accepting sweets as they move around from house to house.

Each country has traditional desserts and sweets that are prepared before Eid or on the morning of the first day.

KQ, airlines cancel flights as floods hit Dubai

Kenya Airways has cancelled passenger flights in and out of Dubai following severe weather and ongoing floods in the Middle East nation.

The carrier in a statement Wednesday said the first flight into and out of Dubai was cancelled on Tuesday, while one more flight was cancelled today.

“We are monitoring the situation and are in close contact with Dubai authorities to minimise the inconvenience and disruption to our customers’ travels,” read the statement.

While apologising to its customers for the inconvenience caused, KQ, as the airline is known by its international code, advised affected passengers to contact its customer support lines for help.

The airline flies to Dubai from Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) two times daily. It also flies to Dubai from Mombasa three times a week. The Mombasa-Dubai flights started in December 2022.

Unprecedented rainfall

The airline is suspending flights to Dubai on a day authorities and communities across the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were clearing debris after a torrential downpour that killed at least one person and caused damage to homes and businesses.

The UAE witnessed a record rainfall with 254mm falling in Al Ain city on Tuesday in less than 24 hours, the most since records began in 1949, according to its National Meteorology Centre.

Highways were clogged with floodwaters and videos showed cars submerged on gridlocked motorways and planes leaving waves in their wake as they taxied down flooded runways in Dubai. The authorities urged passengers to stay away from the airport.

The severe weather in the Middle East nation and its neighbouring countries has resulted in the cancellation of dozens of flights by carriers across the globe.

As many as 28 India-Dubai flights have been cancelled due to the Dubai floods. UAE flag carrier Emirates also suspended check-in for flights departing from Dubai International Airport on Wednesday.
