How much does a cruise to bahamas cost.

Bahamasn cruise prices vary depending on the departure port, cruise travel length, cruise line, and time of year. Expedia offers a variety of last-minute discount cruises and excellent Bahamas cruise 2025 deals if you want to plan your cruise vacation early.

Why should I go on a cruise to Bahamas?

A Bahamasn cruise vacation is a fantastic way to explore new countries and immerse yourself in local cultures. The continent has diverse climates and landscapes, as well as rich cultural and food scenes in each country. Visitors can roam beautiful beaches, trek through jungles, hike the Andes Mountains, or immerse themselves in the vibrant nightlife and learn local dances.

How can I find a cheap Bahamasn cruise?

To find cheap cruises to Bahamas, just sort your results by price from lowest to highest. The search results will automatically be organized to show you the best discount cruises first. Cheap cruises may be shorter in length, but you will still get to experience the richness of Bahamasn culture and have an incredible cruise vacation.

Where can I find the best Bahamasn cruise deals?

The price of cruise tickets to Bahamas varies, but you can find fantastic Bahamasn cruise deals on Expedia that are tailored to your travel wants and needs. Cruise season in Bahamas typically runs from November to early May, so the cruise to Bahamas price may be higher during this time. The destination points and lengths of cruises may also vary during this time. To get the best cheap cruise deals, consider booking your cruise trip between mid-May and the end of October as it's off-season.

What to look out for when you book your Bahamasn cruise?

It’s important to know where you’d like to go on your cruise trip as itineraries vary. Bahamasn cruise destinations include – but are not limited to – Argentina , Brazil , Chile , Peru , and Uruguay . The location of the cruise terminal will also be important as travel to and from the terminal is not included in the total price of your cruise booking. Since Bahamas is such a large continent, some cruise itineraries will have you start and end your cruise trip in different countries. This means you may need to fly from an airport that’s different from the one you flew into.

How to book a cruise to Bahamas on Expedia?

Expedia makes the entire booking process as seamless as possible. That way you can focus on the important stuff, like getting excited about your upcoming cruise trip. Once you are on the ‘Cruises’ page, you can select the ‘Bahamas’ option in the search bar and browse by date, duration, price, cruise terminal, cabin experience, and cruise line. While there are many excellent cruise line options, the best cruise lines in Bahamas include Norwegian Star , Costa Favolosa , and MSC Cruises . Once you’ve selected your desired cruise, you can book your dream cruise vacation and get ready for the experience of a lifetime.

How can I find last-minute cruise deals to Bahamas?

You can book a last-minute cruise to Bahamas on Expedia by inputting your travel dates and sorting the results by price. All valid deals will automatically be applied to the visible cost so you can be confident you are getting the best cruise deals. Last-minute cruise deals may vary by season but can offer an exciting opportunity to explore new destinations at a discount.

Do you need a passport to cruise to Bahamas?

Yes, passports are required for cruises that go to Bahamas. While departure ports and cruise destinations vary, US citizens are required to have a valid passport when entering each country in Bahamas. US passport holders don’t need a tourist visa if their stay in each country is less than 90 days. While it is possible to embark on a closed-loop cruise to Bahamas, US citizens will still need a valid passport to enter countries throughout Bahamas.

Can I cancel my Bahamas cruise booking?

You can cancel your Bahamasn cruise via the ‘Trips’ tab on Expedia. Alternatively, you can contact customer service and they can help cancel your cruise trip for you. Cancellation and refund policies will vary based on your cruise booking, as well as when you cancel your cruise trip. If you cancel your trip further in advance, you're more likely to receive a better refund.

Why should I book a cruise to Bahamas with Expedia?

Booking a cruise vacation with Expedia provides you with an abundance of cruise destinations in Bahamas, top cruise lines, and cheap cruise deals to ensure you have the best Bahamasn cruise.

When booking an eligible cruise as a One Key TM member, you will earn OneKeyCash TM .

This is our rewards currency which you can use to save on  eligible bookings  across Expedia, Hotels.com and Vrbo. The more you book on our three brands, the more perks you'll unlock.

What are the best things to do on a Bahamasn cruise?

Embarking on a boat cruise to Bahamas is a unique experience that you’ll want to make the most of—both onboard and offboard. Exploring the cruise ship, tasting meals from various dining options, utilizing available amenities, and engaging in organized activities are several of the many ways you can enjoy your time onboard to the fullest. Offboard, you’ll be able to immerse yourself in the local culture by trying the best foods, learning their traditions, and visiting cultural and historical sites.

What should I pack for my Bahamas cruise?

The weather in Bahamas varies by country and the time of year. Countries below the equator experience warmer weather starting in December while countries above the equator experience warmer weather in the mid- to late-spring months. So, your packing list will depend on when and where you go on your cruise trip to Bahamas. Regardless of the season or temperature, it’s generally advised to pack comfortable clothes, durable walking shoes, sunscreen, bug spray, and a portable charger.

Top Bahamas FAQs

When’s the best time to take a cruise to The Bahamas?

Celebrity Cruises sails to The Bahamas year-round. The peak season is from December to early spring, while May and June tend to be wetter. Rain tends to fall in the late afternoon in short, sharp showers, so this shouldn’t be a deterrent from traveling.

Hurricane season is typically from June to November although, fortunately, The Bahamas is rarely affected by hurricanes. There are many systems in place to detect any hurricane weather along your route, ensuring your ship’s captain and crew will be able to chart a path around any bad weather or make modifications to the itinerary to keep you safe. Celebrity’s state-of-the-art ships are built for stability, keeping movement in rough seas to a minimum.

See our blog post about cruising during hurricane season for more information.

Do I need a passport?

It is the responsibility of each guest to identify and obtain all required travel documents and have them available at the pier when necessary. Before leaving home, take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the required travel documents you will be asked to provide prior to boarding the ship. You’ll find more information here .

Not all Bahamas cruises require a passport. If you are an American citizen traveling from the U.S. to The Bahamas or Mexico on a closed-loop cruise, starting and ending at the same U.S. port, a state-issued ID and an original U.S. birth certificate are sufficient.

On Bahamas cruises that call at other Caribbean ports, you can enter with your U.S. passport book, passport card, Trusted Traveler card (Nexus, SENTRI, or FAST), or an enhanced driver’s license. See our blog post for more information.

What should I pack for a cruise to The Bahamas?

When packing for a cruise to The Bahamas, you’ll need clothing for a warm, sometimes humid climate. Bring plenty of beachwear, a sun hat, sunglasses, coverups, water shoes if you’re visiting coral beaches, and reef-friendly sunblock.

If you book a snorkeling excursion, all gear will be provided. If there are places where you may want to snorkel independently, consider bringing your own equipment.

Throughout the ship, casual resort wear, sundresses, shorts, polos, or button-downs are appropriate, paired with sandals, low heels, and loafers. In main and specialty dining, we ask guests to refrain from wearing swimsuits, see-through coverups or robes, bare feet, tank tops, T-shirts, and baseball caps.

Smart Casual attire is required for entry to main dining, specialty dining, and the Celebrity Theatre. Smart Casual means you look comfortable yet tasteful in a dress, skirt, long pants, or jeans with a stylish top or button-down. Shorts and flip-flops are not considered Smart Casual.

Each itinerary features one to two more “formal” nights that we call Evening Chic. Evening Chic means you dress to impress, glamorous and sophisticated in your own way, with a cocktail dress, skirt, slacks, or designer jeans, an elegant dress top, or blazer—some guests even pack a tuxedo or gown for onboard photos.

The daily program, delivered to your stateroom and available at the Guest Relations Desk, will be your guide to the correct attire each evening. If you do not wish to participate in Evening Chic, Smart Casual attire is acceptable for dining and attending the theater.

What are some things I can do on my cruise?

The Bahamas offers a range of activities to enjoy during your cruise. In Nassau, you could relax on beautiful beaches on Pearl Island or the Blue Lagoon. Join a watercolor painting class, snorkel over coral reefs, and even swim with friendly pigs. Learn about Nassau’s history, and sample conch fritters, the local specialty. If you’re traveling with kids, you could spend a day exploring Aquaventure waterpark at Atlantis Paradise Island and its waterslides, pools, river rapids, and vast aquarium.

In Bimini, you could relax on a pristine beach in an exclusive resort and swim in the warm, crystal-clear water. If you prefer a more active day, you could hand-feed wild stingrays, swim among reef sharks, or snorkel over the wreck of the Sapona, now colonized by tropical fish.

Perfect Day at CocoCay, our award-winning private island, is the place where you can be as adventurous or as indulgent as you wish. Fly down the tallest waterslide in North America, or whizz along a zipline. Take in the views from 450 feet above the shore in a helium balloon. Enjoy swimming in the largest freshwater lagoon pool in the Caribbean. Or elevate your experience with a luxurious private cabana, either on the powdery beach at Chill Island or perched directly over the aquamarine water.

How long are Bahamas cruises?

Cruises to The Bahamas are three to six nights long. On the shortest Bahamas cruises, you will have a day to explore Nassau and a full day to enjoy the many amenities of your Celebrity Cruises ship.

Other short cruises include Bimini and CocoCay, or a different combination of Key West and Nassau. Slightly longer voyages of five nights visit Key West, Bimini, and CocoCay. On a six-night voyage from Tampa, meanwhile, you will visit Nassau and Bimini and have three full days to enjoy the luxurious amenities of the ship.

What ports do you visit?

We visit three ports in The Bahamas: Nassau, Bimini, and Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean’s award-winning private island.

What can I do on board the ship?

Celebrity’s luxurious ships offer a wealth of activities. Bask by the shimmering pool, join a yoga or meditation class in the Fitness Center, or indulge in a blissful treatment in the Spa.

You’ll find a wide variety of places to dine, with menus crafted by our Michelin-starred chef. Enjoy BBQ specialties at the al fresco Lawn Club Grill (on Celebrity Silhouette and Celebrity Reflection) and marvel at the antics of the 3D characters who “prepare” your dinner in Le Petit Chef.

Enjoy the ship’s upscale bars and lounges, from the lively Martini Bar, where skilled mixologists entertain as they prepare your cocktail, to the beautiful Sunset Bar, a popular gathering place for pre-dinner drinks with friends, with infinite views of the blue ocean. You’ll find live music all over the ship late into the night, whether you want to dance, listen to jazz, or attend a Broadway-quality show in the Theatre.

Elevate your experience on board by choosing The Retreat , where you’ll luxuriate in a beautiful suite and have access to an exclusive lounge and the exceptional Luminae at the Retreat restaurant.

Where do Bahamas cruises depart from?

Celebrity’s Bahamas cruises sail from three ports in Florida: Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and Tampa.

Bahamas Cruise In December Weather: What To Expect

bahamas cruise december

Taking a cruise to the Bahamas in December can be an ideal warm winter getaway. If you’ve wondered what kind of weather to expect on a Bahamas cruise during the last month of the year, this guide has got you covered with everything you need to know.

If you’re short on time, here’s a quick answer to your question: December is one of the best months for cruising to the Bahamas thanks to warm temperatures typically in the 70s and low 80s Fahrenheit, low chances of rain, and calm seas, though be prepared for the possibility of some wind .

In this comprehensive guide, we’ll give you the full scoop on average temperatures, sun and rain expectations, sea conditions, what to pack, plus tips for finding deals on Bahamas cruises in December.

Average Temperatures: Pleasantly Warm

When embarking on a Bahamas cruise in December, travelers can expect pleasantly warm temperatures throughout their journey. The Bahamas, known for its tropical climate, offers a welcome escape from the colder winter weather in many parts of the world.

Daily Highs and Lows

During December, the average daily high temperatures in the Bahamas range from the mid-70s to the low 80s Fahrenheit (mid-20s to low 30s Celsius). This means that you can expect sunny and comfortable weather during your cruise, perfect for lounging by the pool or enjoying outdoor activities.

At night, temperatures tend to drop slightly, with average lows ranging from the low 60s to the mid-70s Fahrenheit (around 15 to 25 degrees Celsius). While it may be a bit cooler in the evenings, it is still considerably warmer compared to many other destinations during this time of year.

Water Temperature

The water temperature in the Bahamas during December is also pleasantly warm, making it ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and other water sports. On average, the water temperature hovers around the mid-70s Fahrenheit (around 24 degrees Celsius).

This means that you can take a dip in the crystal-clear turquoise waters of the Bahamas and enjoy the stunning marine life that the region is famous for.

It’s important to note that these are average temperatures, and weather patterns can vary from year to year. It’s always a good idea to check the latest weather forecasts before your cruise to ensure you pack accordingly and plan your activities accordingly.

For more information on the weather in the Bahamas and up-to-date forecasts, you can visit www.weather.com or www.accuweather.com .

Precipitation Outlook: Low Rainfall

When it comes to the weather in the Bahamas during December, one of the things you can expect is low rainfall. December is typically a dry month in the Bahamas, with minimal precipitation compared to other times of the year.

This means that you’ll have a higher chance of enjoying clear skies and sunny weather during your Bahamas cruise in December.

According to historical weather data, the average rainfall in the Bahamas in December is around X inches per month. This low level of precipitation makes it an ideal time to explore the beautiful beaches, go snorkeling or diving, and take part in various outdoor activities without worrying about getting caught in a rainstorm.

Why is December a dry month?

The dry weather in December can be attributed to the Bahamas’ location and climate. The Bahamas is located in the Caribbean region, which experiences a dry season during the winter months. The dry season is characterized by less rainfall and lower humidity levels, creating a more comfortable and enjoyable environment for visitors.

Additionally, the Bahamas lies in the hurricane belt, and December marks the end of the Atlantic hurricane season. As a result, the likelihood of encountering tropical storms or hurricanes is significantly reduced during this time, further contributing to the low rainfall in the region.

What does this mean for your Bahamas cruise?

If you’re planning a Bahamas cruise in December, the low rainfall outlook is great news for you. It means that you’ll have plenty of opportunities to soak up the sun, relax on the deck, and engage in various water activities without any interruption from rain showers.

You can look forward to clear blue skies and warm temperatures as you explore the stunning islands and enjoy the many amenities onboard your cruise ship.

However, it’s worth noting that even though the chances of rain are low, it’s always a good idea to pack some light rain gear or an umbrella, just in case. Weather can be unpredictable, and a sudden shower can occur, albeit rare, during your trip.

For the most accurate and up-to-date weather forecast during your Bahamas cruise, you can check websites such as www.weather.com or www.accuweather.com . These websites provide detailed information about the weather conditions in the Bahamas, including precipitation levels, temperature ranges, and other relevant data to help you plan your activities accordingly.

Sea and Wind Conditions: Mostly Calm

When embarking on a Bahamas cruise in December, travelers can generally expect mostly calm sea and wind conditions. This is good news for those who may be prone to seasickness or prefer smoother sailing.

While the weather can vary from year to year, December is typically considered part of the dry season in the Bahamas, which means that conditions are generally more favorable for cruising.

In December, the waves in the Bahamas are usually quite gentle, making for a smooth and enjoyable cruise experience. The calm sea conditions make it an ideal time to participate in water activities such as snorkeling or kayaking, as the water is generally clear and tranquil.

Travelers can look forward to relaxing on the deck of their cruise ship, feeling the gentle rocking motion of the waves as they soak up the sun and enjoy the breathtaking views of the crystal-clear waters.

The winds in the Bahamas during December are typically mild, with average speeds ranging from 5 to 15 knots. This means that there is usually a pleasant breeze in the air, which can be refreshing without being too strong.

The calm wind conditions make it easier for cruise ships to navigate and provide a comfortable experience for passengers. Whether you’re lounging by the pool or taking a leisurely stroll on the deck, you can expect the gentle breeze to add to the overall enjoyment of your Bahamas cruise in December.

For more information on weather patterns and conditions in the Bahamas during December, you can visit www.weather.com or www.bahamas.com .

What to Pack for a Bahamas Cruise in December

Planning a Bahamas cruise in December? It’s important to pack accordingly to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable trip. Here are some essential items to consider bringing:

1. Warm clothing:

While the Bahamas is known for its warm weather, December can bring cooler temperatures, especially in the evenings. Don’t forget to pack a light jacket or sweater to keep you cozy during the cooler hours.

2. Swimwear:

Despite the cooler evenings, the daytime temperatures in the Bahamas can still be quite warm. Be sure to pack your favorite swimsuits, so you can take full advantage of the beautiful beaches and crystal-clear waters.

3. Sunscreen and sun protection:

The sun can still be strong in December, even if the temperatures are slightly cooler. Protect your skin by packing sunscreen with a high SPF, along with a hat and sunglasses to shield your eyes from the sun’s rays.

4. Comfortable walking shoes:

Exploring the Bahamas on foot can be a great way to immerse yourself in the local culture. Make sure to bring comfortable walking shoes or sandals that provide support and won’t cause any discomfort during your adventures.

5. Formal attire:

Many cruise ships host formal nights where passengers are encouraged to dress up. It’s a great opportunity to showcase your style and enjoy a fancy dinner or evening of entertainment. Pack a few outfits that are suitable for these occasions.

6. Medications and personal essentials:

Remember to pack any necessary medications and personal essentials, such as toiletries and any special items you may need for your health or well-being. It’s always better to be prepared.

7. Electrical adapters:

If you’re traveling from a country with different electrical outlets, don’t forget to pack the necessary adapters to ensure you can charge your devices and use any electrical equipment you may need.

8. Travel documents:

Finally, don’t leave home without your travel documents, including your passport, cruise ticket, and any other necessary identification. It’s also a good idea to make copies of these documents and keep them in a separate location, just in case.

By packing these essential items, you’ll be well-prepared for a memorable Bahamas cruise in December. Enjoy your trip!

Finding Deals on December Bahamas Cruises

Planning a Bahamas cruise in December can be an exciting experience. As the holiday season approaches, many cruise lines offer special deals and promotions to attract travelers. Here are some tips on finding the best deals for December Bahamas cruises:

1. Book in advance

Booking your December Bahamas cruise well in advance can often lead to significant savings. Cruise lines typically offer early bird discounts for those who book their trips early. By planning ahead and securing your spot on the cruise ship, you can take advantage of these discounts and secure a great deal for your December getaway.

2. Keep an eye out for last-minute deals

While booking in advance is generally recommended, sometimes last-minute deals can offer excellent savings. Cruise lines may lower prices on unsold cabins closer to the departure date to fill up the ship.

If you’re flexible with your travel dates and can make arrangements on short notice, keep an eye out for these last-minute deals that can help you save big on your December Bahamas cruise.

3. Consider shoulder season cruises

December falls in the shoulder season for Bahamas cruises, which means that prices are generally lower compared to peak season. By opting for a cruise during this time, you can enjoy the beautiful Bahamas weather while also taking advantage of lower prices.

Additionally, the crowds are often smaller during shoulder season cruises, allowing you to have a more peaceful and relaxed experience.

4. Utilize travel websites

Travel websites can be a valuable resource when searching for deals on December Bahamas cruises. Websites like Expedia, Travelocity, and Cruise Critic often have special promotions and discounts that are not available elsewhere.

By comparing prices on these websites, you can easily find the best deal for your December cruise.

5. Sign up for cruise line newsletters

Cruise lines often send out newsletters and promotional emails to their subscribers. By signing up for these newsletters, you can stay informed about any upcoming deals or discounts specifically tailored for December cruises.

This way, you’ll be among the first to know about any special promotions and can snatch up a great deal before it’s gone.

With these tips in mind, you’ll be well on your way to finding an amazing deal on your December Bahamas cruise. Whether you choose to book in advance, take advantage of last-minute deals, or explore shoulder season options, you’re bound to have an incredible vacation without breaking the bank.

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to experience the beauty of the Bahamas during the magical month of December!

With pleasantly warm weather, low chances of rain, calm seas, and the possibility of scoring deals, December is arguably one of the best times for taking a cruise to the Bahamas. By packing the right clothes and keeping an eye on weather forecasts, you can soak up the sun poolside and enjoy walking the stunning beaches of the islands while escaping chilly December weather back home.

The Bahamas in December: The Ultimate Traveler’s Guide

Nassau Junkanoo Bahamas

Considering visiting The Bahamas in December and don’t know where to start planning? We’ve got you covered!

The Bahamas in December is a cool in temperature and can get crowded toward the end of the month. December is the beginning of high season in the Bahamas so crowds and pricing will rise as the month goes on. Christmas, New Year’s and the famous island “Junkanoo” festival is a busy time, so if you’re looking to save a little money, plan to visit at the beginning of the month.

No matter what you intend to do, the islands are fun this time of year. We’ve built this big guide to help you determine what to add to your itinerary to get the most out of your trip.

Bahamas Weather in December

Cruise to Bahamas

December weather in the Bahamas is known for high wind and typically being the coldest month of the year. The sun is a little more scarce this time of year, making these breezy Winter days comfortable and cool. The average high at the beginning of December tends to be around 80 ° F each day and the low is around 70 ° F. This average decreases by a few degrees through the month.

The skies can range from clear to overcast each day, but rain showers and thunderstorms are far less likely to plague your vacation this month. As a matter of fact, the Bahamas historically receive only 1 inch of rain in December. Humidity drops significantly this month, so you won’t be as likely to sweat while the sun is shining.

Water temperatures cool down to an average of about 78 ° F in December; that paired with average wind speeds of 15mph or more make diving conditions less favorable but still possible. The overall great weather and lack of rain is a huge reason for December becoming pretty popular with the tourist crowd.

Bahamas December Weather Cheat Sheet

Bahamas affordability & crowds in december.

Senor Frog's Nassau Bahamas

At the beginning of December, crowd levels will often match those of November – light and less busy. As the month goes on those tourist numbers will spike rapidly, especially during the holiday week. Visitors will flock to the islands for the beautiful weather and comfortable climate, not to mention the fun festivities the Bahamas are known for.

December is the beginning of high season for the Bahamas and is usually the second busiest month of the year. Pricing increases follow the demand, so booking your vacation far in advance is a must when vacationing in December.

Prepare for some of the highest transportation rates in December, no matter where you decide to go. Plus, the hotels and tour may adjust their pricing for the high season. December is not a good month for vacationing on a budget, but it is a great month for experiencing some of the Bahamas’ most beautiful weather conditions.

Traveling to the Bahamas in December

Ferryboat to Bahamas

Tourists take all forms of transportation to the Bahamas in December since the Winter weather will not hinder their plans like the hurricane season. The most affordable way to get to the Bahamas in December is by taking the Ferryboat from Miami or Fort Lauderdale . But this option is best recommended for those who live in Florida.

The ferry is convenient for a weekend trip or a short trip, and takes approximately 3-4 hours to reach Bimini, Nassau or Freeport. The only downside to using the ferry is that you can’t bring too much luggage with you and you won’t have much entertainment on the ride.

Cruises, on the other hand, are packed with entertainment, dining experiences and full itineraries for each guest. If you’re looking for an all-inclusive form of transportation, a cruise is the way to go. They’ll be more expensive and more crowded in December, but it’s worth the hassle if you’re looking for a hands-free vacation.

Flying to the Bahamas is the last, but often easiest way to get there. Flights can be more expensive this month and we suggest flying into the bigger airports to keep rates lower.

Best Bahamas Islands in December

December can be a busy month to visit the Bahamas, and most of the islands will have an influx of visitors. That said, no one does the holidays better than the Disney Cruise Line. So if you’re looking to experience the holidays in Bahamian style, book a trip to Castaway Cay with Disney to get the full holiday getaway.

Castaway Cay Bahamas Disney Cruise Line

Castaway Cay

Disney Cruises in December may be a little more pricey, especially when going on a themed sailing, but it’s definitely worth it for a special occasion or for a fun family trip. All the Disney cruise ships participate in holiday festivities by decking the ships out in festive embellishments and bringing special characters onto each ship. The itinerary is also filled with holiday fun, even on land.

If you go for Christmas, the crew and characters will be dressed in their holiday finest. Special activities will be going on for kids, along with a festive menu and special merchandise. Santa will even join you for your cruise. For New Year’s, the fun is taken up a notch with a special fireworks celebration when the clock strikes midnight.

Disney has two different cruise stops including Nassau and their private island, Castaway Cay , which you choose in advance. The Nassau trip features lots options to suit your interests. You can do anything from Adventure Jeep Tours and day passes to Atlantis Resort, to sightseeing tours, semi-submarine explorations, and even scuba diving or deep sea fishing excursions.

When you book the cruise to Castaway Cay, expect the full holiday treatment of Disney proportions. The island is impeccably themed and extremely well-maintained, designed with a lost at sea theme. Castaway Cay is very family-friendly and offers plenty of different areas for you to relax or have fun, including a family beach, snorkeling lagoon, Pelican Plunge deck, teen hideout, game pavilion and more. There are also boat and snorkel rentals, drink and quick service food stations, and even character appearances throughout the day.

For Christmas, Castaway Cay transforms into a winter wonderland. Snow flurries dance in the sky, a decorated Christmas tree stands at the center and characters visit the passengers in their holiday best. The Nassau adventure may not be quite as festive as Castaway Cay, but it comes with its perks. Fireworks light up the sky on New Year’s Eve and the Junkanoo celebration begins in all its rowdy splendor.

Best Things to Do in the Bahamas in December

The Bahamas has no shortage of island-y activities for you to participate in and it can often be difficult to choose between them if you have limited time. To make life easier for you, we’ve listed some of the best things to add to your itinerary in December so you can make this getaway the greatest possible.

Cabbage Beach Nassau Bahamas

December is a great month to go golfing in the Bahamas. While it can get windy, there’s little chance of rain as well as temperate weather that makes for a great round of golf almost any day your trip. Many of the largest resorts in the Bahamas have well-managed and professionally designed golf courses for you to choose from.

Paradise Island Golf Club , pictured above, is among the top courses in the Bahamas and offers golfers 18 holes in Nassau. It’s located right on the ocean, making for impeccable views, and features wetlands and lagoons on a Par 72 championship course.

The Royal Blue Golf Club is another stunner, designed by Jack Nicklaus and equipped with bunkers and sand dunes along the evergreen fairways. Rocky hills offer a stunning backdrop to this 18 hole championship course on New Providence Island.

Book a Glass Bottom Boat

Glass Bottom Boat Bahamas

Glass bottom boats are some of the most spectacular ways to see what’s going on under the surface of the water without having to snorkel or dive into the depths. This is a truly unique way for visitors of all abilities to explore the surrounding reefs and marine life, all for about $50 – $150 per person. The boats hold 10-15 people for a two hour tour and often come stocked with snacks and beverages.

If you prefer to go into the water, snorkeling tours are abundant along with snorkeling gear for rent at several places around the Bahamas. Shallow reefs, ship wrecks and plane wrecks are among some of the interesting finds around the islands.

If you plan to spend the day at the beach, consider renting a water vehicle for an hour or two in between sunbathing. This is a great way to explore the coastline without venturing too far offshore. You can get anything from jet skis to banana boats which hold groups of 2 to 5. Rental companies line the beaches, especially in popular areas like Nassau and Freeport.

Perhaps the most unique rental in Nassau is the Personal Underwater Sub , which takes you underneath the waves to explore local reefs for up to 35 minutes. These unique vehicles take you completely underwater to see shallow reefs and colorful fish along the coastline. No prior diving experience is required and a short-term tour guide will get you to all the cool spots on your journey.

Dive with Schools of Fish and Sharks

Black Grouper Bahamas

Winter is a great time for scuba diving in the Bahamas, though the water can be a bit cool, so be sure to bundle up in a full body wetsuit. Lots of excursions will take you to the Exuma Cays, Bimini or Grand Bahama where you can dive ship and plane wrecks featured in the movies, or explore colorful coral reefs like the Exuma Land and Sea Park.

In December, massive schools of grouper can be found around the coastline near Nassau. The Bahamas have loads of different schooling species, including Nassau grouper, redfin grouper, tiger grouper and Atlantic Goliath Grouper (which prefer to go it alone).

While diving in December you can find additional forms of marine life. Hammerhead sharks are prevalent this month and can be spotted in Bimini and Grand Bahama. Whale & Tiger sharks are also among the more frequent sightings this month, along with reef, lemon and nurse sharks all over the Bahamas.

Go Shelling

Conch Shells on Norman's Cay Bahamas

The Bahamas is well-known for the signature Queen’s Conch shells, often occupied by mollusks. These shells are prized by residents and protected, so you can’t take them home. However, they are beautiful to see in person. While shelling, the best ones you can collect include Cowries, King Helmets, Tulip Shells and Angel Wings.

You can find a lot of these at Somerset Creek Beach on Andros Island and Eleuthera Island, which are considered the best locations in the Bahamas for shelling. You’ll find anything from sand dollars to conches here, plus you’ll be surrounded by some of the loveliest landscapes in the Caribbean.

If you’re looking for a little more adventure on the coastline, swimming with the pigs is the most popular experience year round. Due to the influx of tourists in December, this month could be really busy for seeing the popular farm animals, but there are many different speed boat tours that can take you to this experience.

For a little more laid back experience, try a horseback tour on the beach for breathtaking views of the crystal waters. Happy Trails on Paradise Island offers spectacular sunrise trail rides through the brush of the island to the coast. The Freeport tour guides will take you on a scenic journey to some of the most popular destinations on Grand Bahama while you slowly jaunt through the natural landscape. And in Half Moon Cay, the horseback experience takes you on a ride and swim through the waves on your horse.

Tour the Islands

Great Exuma Allen's Cay Speedboat Tour Bahamas

There are loads of tours available to you all year in the Bahamas, including sightseeing, jet-setting and power boating your way across the islands. One of our top recommended activities to get you in touch with the islands is taking a scenic boat tour via catamaran, speed boat or power boat. These tours take place in Nassau and allow you to experience the sun, sand and city attractions in about half a day – some tours even include lunch!

Great weather in December makes the Exuma Powerboat Tours well worth it. The Exuma Powerboat Tours set sail from Nassau and make up to 7 different stops depending on the tour you select. This is a full day experience where you’ll encounter sharks, stingrays, and iguanas, plus you’ll get a chance to swim with the famous pigs of Exuma.

Island hopping via speed boat is one of the quickest and cheapest ways to experience lots of islands during your Bahamas trip. There are loads of different Speed Boat Tours that range in price from below $200 to under $1000. They will take you to see anything from private beaches to snorkeling holes to sand bars, so we suggest looking into the perfect tour to fit your budget and bucket list.

Since the weather is primed for fast-paced outdoor adventures in December, we also suggest looking into the Pirate Jeep Sightseeing Tour . This tour is built for groups who prefer to be chauffeured while taking in the pirate lore and history of New Providence Island. Tours usually end at John Watling’s Distillery for a rum tasting before the day closes.

Barracuda Fishing Bahamas

The Bahamas is one of the top places in the world for landing Bonefish and December is a prime month to find them. The cold weather pushes lots of schooling fish from the flats, leaving the adjusted bonefish and other similar catch out for the taking. In December, the fish also tend to be larger and reach their peak weight in January.

Bonefish are one of the top catches in the Bahamas and they’re available to fish year round. The flats and mangroves are filled with bonefish at certain points in the day, especially near the Abaco Islands, Andros and New Providence. If you plan to troll the flats by boat or head a little farther offshore, you can also catch Barracuda and Wahoo, which are in season this month.

Fly Fishing is one of the preferred ways to catch bonefish in the Bahamas and any angler can set out on their own to accomplish this. You should head to the Abaco Islands as they are the most ideal for bonefishing, but many also like Andros Island, New Providence or Yamacraw Beach. But we highly suggest booking a charter or fishing guide to get you to the best spots in December.

December Events & Conventions in Bahamas

Junkanoo Nassau Bahamas

Bahamas International Film Festival

The Bahamas is a prime location for movie sets and scenes, so it’s no wonder the country hosts an International Film Festival to commemorate different cinematic pieces . The festival recognizes all types of films created over the last year and awards directors, actors and many others for their work on these impactful pieces.

This is by far the biggest and most anticipated event in the Bahamas year after year. Junkanoo has become such a grand tradition that all the islands celebrate with their own version , but visitors should experience the best parties hosted in Nassau. Parades, music, parties and grand clothing and decor make this post-Christmas holiday extra special.

December in the Bahamas is a magical time of year. For those escaping the wintery throws of the North, the Bahamas can offer a warm reprieve. The waters are comparatively warm, the air is comfortable and the atmosphere is unmatched. It may be a little busier this time of year, but it’s well worth it for a tropical island getaway.

If your goal is simply to live it up in the warmer weather, the Bahamas has some incredible golf courses that are fun to play in December. You also have a range of choices in the water and on land. Walking and sightseeing tours are fun this time of year when the weather is less humid and fishing and diving are great ways to explore the depths of the ocean.

If you’d prefer to experience the Bahamas for the holidays, book a trip with Disney Cruise Line for a pixie-dusted Christmas-themed adventure on the ship. Disney sails to Nassau or their private island Castaway Cay and offers fun Christmas and New Year’s festivities for the whole family.

Whether you want a break from the cold Winter weather or wish to experience a Bahamian holiday, December is a great time to visit the Bahamas. If you don’t mind the price increase and a moderate tourist crowd, consider looking at December for your next trip to the islands.

The best time to cruise to the Bahamas

Melinda Crow

When is the absolute best time to cruise to the Bahamas? The short answer is that any time you can make it happen is the best time.

The long answer depends on what matters most to you. Are you going to play in the water? Are you averse to the risks of schedule changes or cancellations? Are you cruising to the Bahamas because it's cheap? Do you want a party atmosphere or peace and quiet? The answers to these questions will determine the best month or season for your Bahamas cruise.

Taking weather, price and crowds into consideration, I'm going with November as the best time to cruise to the Bahamas. Here's how I came to that conclusion, though you might decide another month is the best time for you to sail away to the islands.

For cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

The best time based on weather

Though I found several blogs promoting January as the best month to cruise to the Bahamas, I personally have experienced chilly weather in the Bahamas in both December and January. Remember, the Bahamas are located in the Atlantic Ocean, not the Caribbean. They're not truly tropical islands, and most are at more northern latitudes than Key West. Winter temperatures aren't always balmy.

I've had two stops at private islands canceled due to strong winds and temperatures in the 50s and 60s. One ship I was on made an alternate stop at Freeport, which was still chilly, but at least it could dock. It was a wasted day for those hoping to enjoy water sports or the beach. Only the shoppers weren't deterred by the chill in the air.

Don't get me wrong, January is usually a wonderful time to cruise to the Bahamas, as long as you are prepared for the relatively rare cold front that blows that far south.

Related: Caribbean vs. Bahamas cruises: Which itinerary will I like more?

The months some cruisers tell you to avoid cruising to the Bahamas are during the peak of Atlantic hurricane season, which is August to October. But here's the thing about that – the cruise line isn't going to put you or their ship in harm's way.

bahamas cruise december

Might they cancel your cruise or switch up your itinerary? Sure. But my own experience has been that outside of relatively rare hurricanes and tropical storms, the late summer and early fall months often bring calmer seas. In fact, the calmest seas I have experienced anywhere in the world were on a September cruise to the Bahamas, on which we enjoyed glassy calm waters the entire trip.

The best month to cruise the Bahamas, weather-wise, depends on your travel style. Are you stressed by the possibility of cancellations due to hurricanes or by port changes from unexpected cold fronts? Skip January, December, August, September — and maybe even October.

Are you only going on the cruise for water sports like diving, snorkeling or boating? Then rule out December and January.

Do you avoid high heat and humidity as if it were a plague? Then don't book a cruise to the Bahamas in July, August or September.

The months we haven't mentioned are March, April, May, June and November. If weather is your biggest concern, those are the best months for you to hop on a Bahamas cruise.

The best time based on prices and crowds

It's no secret that cruises to the Bahamas can be cheap — but they are not always so. Here are the averages we found for price per person per night across the mainstream cruise lines along with what kind of crowd you can expect to find on board. Exceptions to these averages are always possible, especially on odd-length cruises like four- and five-night sailings.

The autumn months can be an ideal time to cruise the Bahamas if you're looking for cheaper fares and fewer crowds – especially if you're not bothered by the increased hurricane risk. (September 10 is the official peak of hurricane season.)

October tends to be the lowest-priced month to cruise to the Bahamas, with inside cabins averaging around $60 per person, per night. Ocean-view cabins are yours for an average of $75 per night, while balcony cabins are a bit higher, at around $85 per person per night. Even suites are a good deal. October sailings do not usually include very many children or college-age partiers, but the lower fares do attract working folks looking to let off steam, especially on three-night sailings.

September runs a close second to October, with fares averaging a few dollars higher per night. Expect a similar crowd. The shorter the cruise, the louder the party tends to get.

November before the holidays is perhaps the ideal time to cruise. We found the suites in early to mid-November average only $167 per night, with other categories running just slightly more than hurricane season rates. You can expect few children on board other than home-schoolers and preschoolers. With the holidays right around the corner, the ships often will be a bit emptier than usual, making for a quiet cruise.

Early December cruises cost only slightly more than November. If you love holiday decor (both on board and in the islands) and dressing up in holiday clothes, you can enjoy a relatively quiet cruise early in December. The later it gets, the more the crowd swells.

The absolute most expensive cruises to the Bahamas we found were during the week between Christmas and New Year's, when you can expect to pay upward of $150 per person per night for an inside cabin, $165 for ocean-view cabins, $180 and up per night for balconies, and $400 and up per night for suites. This is max capacity time onboard. The best news for those looking for a floating holiday party is that you will find your people cruising this week.

bahamas cruise december

January and February cruises to the Bahamas are almost always bargains, with inside cabins running around $75 per night, ocean-view cabins are a mere $85 per night, and balconies and suites averaging around $100 and $175 respectively. These are months between the holiday parties and spring break, so you can usually sit back and enjoy smaller, quieter crowds.

In March, April and May, you'll have to shop around for deals or hope for a last-minute special, but you can find lower prices if you look. March cruises will always include spring breakers of all ages, so expect children on board, just not as many as in summer.

You also might find yourself sharing a ship with a spring break party cruise charter in March. Even if your ship is quiet, the ports you visit might be filled with hordes of vacationing college kids, so be prepared for a lively crowd.

June, July and August cruise rates average around $90 per night for inside cabins, $100 per night for ocean-views, $120 and up for balcony cabins and $225 per night and up for suites. Ships will be loaded with families. Expect children of all ages and maxed-out onboard kids clubs. Fares typically start to fall toward the end of August when schools start back up and hurricane season kicks into gear.

Bottom line

The big, mainstream cruise lines sail to the Bahamas year-round, so whichever season or month suits your schedule, you'll find plenty of options departing from multiple ports. (We found eight ports offering Bahamas cruises, including three in Florida, plus Baltimore; New York City; Bayonne, New Jersey; Charleston, South Carolina; and Galveston, Texas.) Even better news is that the abundance of options means an abundance of deals year-round.

The best time to cruise the Bahamas might vary per traveler, but feel confident that you can't go wrong with an island vacation, no matter which month you choose.

Here’s how to catch a South Florida cruise that now stops in Key West

F or the first time in its history, the Margaritaville at Sea cruise line will travel from its longtime home at the Port of Palm Beach to a destination beyond the Bahamas.

Since its founding as Bahamas Paradise in 2014, the company has only sailed to one place: Freeport, Grand Bahama. And the cruise line only recently expanded the length of its cruises.

While it spent years exclusively operating quick, two-night trips, it started taking reservations last November for three-night trips out of Palm Beach aboard its ship Paradise that will begin this August.

Last December, the cruise line announced the purchase of a larger ship, called the Islander, that in June will begin sailing four- and five-night trips out of the Port of Tampa to locations in Mexico and Key West.

The idea of stopping in Key West must have been appealing to the cruise line’s guests and managers, because the island has been added to the Paradise’s itineraries beginning in September.

Key West will mark the first destination beyond Freeport for sailings by Margaritaville at Sea or its predecessor, Bahamas Paradise, out of the Port of Palm Beach.

In fact, it will be the first destination other than the Bahamas for any ship sailing out of the Port of Palm Beach since the 1990s, port spokesman Yaremi Farinas said.

Five voyages will sail on a Monday-through-Friday schedule. Embarkation dates are Sept. 19, Sept. 30, Oct. 14, Nov. 25, and Dec. 9.

Fares will start below $200 for interior staterooms on all except the Nov. 25 cruise, which will start at $330.

The cruise line, of course, is part of a vast hospitality company founded by singer/songwriter Jimmy Buffett, who died last year at age 76.

Buffett-inspired flourishes can be found all over its ships, from tropical art on the bows and in staterooms to signs that borrow song lyrics like “One Particular Harbour” and “It’s 5 ‘o clock somewhere.”

Key West was Buffett’s home in the early 1970s, when he supplemented his income as a recording artist and performer at the Chart Room Bar and Howie’s Lounge by working on a deep-sea fishing boat.

The Key West stop is being offered as a “limited edition release so that select Paradise guests can also experience (its) laidback charm,” a Margaritaville at Sea spokesperson said.

After the ship sets sail, guests will have to chill out for awhile before getting to the Conch Republic.

After departing on day one, day two will be spent at sea. The ship will arrive in Key West at about 7 a.m. on the third day and depart at about 4 p.m. — leaving about eight or nine hours to visit the Hemingway Home and Museum, the Truman Little White House, the Key West Lighthouse, Mallory Square, the bars on Duval Street, or the first Margaritaville restaurant, which opened in 1987.

Whether the Key West stops from the Port of Palm Beach will continue after December is not yet known. The stops to the place “where it all began for the Margaritaville brand” are expected to be very popular, the spokesperson said, adding, “we are continuing to evaluate our 2025 deployment.”

Michael Meekins, executive director of the Port of Palm Beach, said the port operators are “thrilled” by the addition. “I think it is great the cruise line is offering its cruise passengers different itineraries from Palm Beach, adding more days of fun,” he said Thursday.

Cruise line CEO Christopher Ivy emphasized the “limited capacity” of the Key West plans, saying, “these special sailings give both new and returning guests even more options from the beautiful Port of Palm Beach aboard Margaritaville at Sea.”

What's more Jimmy Buffett-like than a cruise to Key West - Margaritaville's latest destination

bahamas cruise december

If you love Key West, but don't relish the five-hour drive to the "Conch Republic," Margaritaville at Sea has got the cure.

They are offering five, four-night trips aboard the Paradise from September to December 2024 that will have guests chilling in Key West, then lounging on the beaches and swimming in the pristine waters off Grand Bahama.

Starting at $169 per person, the cruise line began taking reservations for the five trips on April 26.

All five trips aboard Paradise depart on Monday and return on Friday and are available Sept. 16 to 20, Sept. 30 to Oct. 4, Oct. 14 to 18, Nov. 25 to 29 and Dec. 9 to 13.

In addition to the destinations, the ship itself is packed with fun.

How was your Bahamas cruise? Margaritaville at Sea Paradise receives mixed reviews

Plenty of amenities aboard Margaritaville at Sea Bahamas cruise

Let the Paradise be your floating island of good times and take advantage options like the St. Somewhere Spa, the Fins Up! Fitness Center, Fin City Arcade and the action-packed Margaritaville Casino, along with pools, hot tubs and plenty of places to just chill and soak up some serious 'Vitamin Sea.'

Keeping up that level of leisure requires energy, and while onboard Paradise, you can refuel via six different restaurants, including the Port of Indecision Buffet, Fins Dining, Cheeseburger in Paradise Burger Bar, Frank & Lola's Pizzeria, JWB Prime Steakhouse and the Margaritaville Coffee Shop.

If you're thinking "What about beverages?" there are also six great places to grab libations. The 5 o'Clock Somewhere Bar, the Hemisphere Night Club, the 12 Volt Bar, Euphoria, Keys on the Water and License to Chill Bar are all ready and waiting to serve up "that frozen concoction that helps you hang on" or any other beverage you're seeking.

The new four-night offering to Key West is in addition to their regular two- and three-day trips to Grand Bahama.

All trips leave out of and return to Port of Palm Beach in Riviera Beach.

Margaritaville sets sail for Key West now too

It’s not a clone of Castaway Cay, the popular Bahamas private island DCL has been visiting for more than two decades.

Speaking at a panel discussion Thursday at Walt Disney World, Denise Case, director of entertainment creative for Disney, said when Imagineers built that first destination the theme was “everyone’s just kind of cast away on a deserted island in the middle of the Bahamas.”

“It’s a very fictional place,” she said, adding that Lookout Cay “is a real place with real people and a real culture. It is truly about the Bahamas. There’s nothing fictional really about it.”

Much like Disney pursued an authentic Hawaiian experience at its Aulani resort, Imagineers have tackled that approach for the new port of call at the southern tip of the island of Eleuthera. It’s set to welcome its first visitors in June.

Among new details released Thursday, the cruise line revealed the first full site map, which shows a massive swath of green for the 900-acre development.

“One of the things that I love about this map is how untouched the site is,” said Joey Gaskins, DCL’s regional public affairs director and a Bahamas native.

To date, only 16% has been developed and 152 acres have been given back to the government of the Bahamas “because the site is so meaningful, and so I think looking at that very small footprint on what is a significant piece of property is really important on the environmental story as well,” Gaskins said.

He also gave the history behind the name Lighthouse Point, when asked if there was an actual lighthouse on the site. The answer is: sort of.

“The technical name for the building on the site is actually a light station, so it’s not a lighthouse in the traditional sense of a tower with the light on top that’s going around,” he said. “But there’s a structure there that had an outdoor kitchen, a living facility, and that was used to guide ships in from the water.”

The area is actually known for shipwrecks, he said. A settlement on the island now called Rock Sound used to be called Wreck Sound, and the island has a history of people sustaining themselves with goods from the wrecks.

“In other words, ships would wreck against the reefs, and they would go out there and collect wherever they could, sell the goods for later,” he said,

It’s one of the interesting stories line hopes its visitors discover when they venture on excursions away from the destination, including visits to the light station, which is not part of Disney’s property.

“We’ve committed to creating safe access to that, so people can take a look at it and see it, and again, keep it protected,” he said.

Other excursions look to take advantage of Eleuthera’s natural beauty.

“It has a lot of natural wonders — the Glass Window Bridge that separates the Exuma Sound from the Atlantic Ocean; you have pink sand beaches that stretch for miles; blue holes that have mermaid stories attached to them; cathedral caves that reach up into the sky,” Gaskins said.

Guests will have plenty to enjoy within the property lines, with offerings leaning heavily on Bahamian culture, especially the carnival-esque parade called Junkanoo, which is traditionally celebrated across the nation on Boxing Day on Dec. 26 and New Year’s Day on Jan. 1.

One of the main entertainment options at Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point will be the Junkanoo Rush Out, run by a local Bahamian Junkanoo Group, introducing guests to the signature festival of the Bahamas with a colorful parade full of music and dancing. (Courtesy/Disney Cruise Line)

“Junkanoo is the preeminent cultural celebration of the Bahamas,” he said. “It includes goatskin drums, cow bells, whistles, brass, and these amazing costumes made out of cray paper and cardboard. … It is really a celebration of freedom.”

Its origins are debated he said, with some saying it came from Africa and others that it was born of colonial settlement, “but what it has become for us in the Bahamas is symbolic of who we are as a people. It is our creativity, our energy, all of it encapsulated across these two parades during the holidays.”

Visitors to Lookout Cay will get daily doses of the parade and participate in the event Disney organized with the help of the Bahamas National Junkanoo Committee.

“You’ll be able to participate with the music, you’ll be able to make a Bahamian craft,” Case said. “You’ll learn about the cardboard and the pasting and the cray paper. Let me tell you it’s harder than you think y’all.”

Bahamian fashion designer Theodore Elyett came up with unique designs for Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Daisy and Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto and Chip & Dale. (Courtesy/Disney Cruise Line)

The color and vibrancy of that spills over to the character designs for Mickey and the gang that will be found at the resort, but also to the buildings, especially at the heart of the resort called the Goombay Cultural Center, said Kassandra Rose, a creative director with Walt Disney Imagineering.

“You’re also going to see Junkanoo influenced in the architecture and the artwork from the local Bahamian artists,” she said. “The Junkanoo feel of all aspects of culture coming together and really community, so the guests will be able to come and learn from local artists and learn about tradition and be completely inspired by that environment from the artwork on the walls to the patterns on the ceiling.”

One more note about Bahamian authenticity: when asked about how to pronounce “Cay,” the overwhelming opinion is to say it like “key.”

“If you’re Bahamian, it’s always ‘key,'” Gaskins said. “So we’ve adopted that pronunciation, I think, for Lookout Cay.”
