On a Cheap Trip

Bahubali Hill Udaipur – A short hike to the Heaven!!

enjoying the views of Bahubali Hill

How many of you are familiar with the word “ Baahubali ” and its phenomenal “Mahishmati anthem”. This period drama undoubtedly was successful in leaving an imprint on the minds of masses and continues to do so.  Well, the place I visited near my hometown Udaipur was no less touched by the epic Baahubali craze. Looking at the giant structure of the mountain, I instantly understand why they must have named the Hill as “ Bahubali Hills ”. The hill is very much a beautiful and relatively small replica of the giant mountain we see in the movie.

the trek route of bahubali Hill

The trek route of Bahubali Hill

Located around 15 kms from the city centre of Udaipur, Bahualli hills stands tall on the not so famous Badi Lake . Recently the place has gained a lot of popularity amongst the Udaipurites and the tourists. Especially, the place has become hotspot amongst those who are looking for pre-wedding shoots. The 360° views of the Badi Lake with Aravalli range in the backdrop is so soothing to eyes.

For a city known for its lavish palaces, royal hotels, heritage buildings, and extravagant weddings, Bahubali hill reminds the city is not far behind when it comes to natural beauty. A visit to this magical hill will ensure that your profile picture needs an update with that lovely selfie, Haha !! So how do you get to this astonishing beauty?

Astonishing Bahubali Hill view

How to reach Bahubali Hill from Udaipur City

The Bahubill hill stands tall at one of the extreme ends of Badi lake which is around 6 Kms from the famous Fateh Sagar Lake. There are two routes to reach the top of Bahuballi Hill, one which goes from Barda village(older route) and other which is recently constructed just next to a bridge.

Reaching Bahubali hills using public transport is not an option unless you hitchhike. Also, taking Ola and Uber isn’t a good option as it would be hard to get a return cab. So either you can negotiate with the Cab driver directly or take an auto (should charge somewhere around 300-500 INR including waiting time).

How to reach Bahubali hills from Udaipur

The two options that I would highly recommend is to either take a cycle on rent from Fathesagar Lake (round trip 10-12 kms) or rent a motorbike. The route from Fathesagar to Badi Lake is scenic and you will love riding on the curvy roads especially near to Badi Lake. For renting a cycle you may also check PEDL by Zoomcar and MYBYK . For bike rentals read bike rental services in Udaipur .

Bahubali Trek route

Trek route and difficulty Level of Bahubali Trek

It is a very short hike and I would rate it as a very easy trek and would highly recommend it to everyone. Even you can not categorize it as a trek as it hardly takes around 10-20 minutes to reach the top. The views all along the trek route are splendid as you get to see marvellous views of Badi lake with Aravalli Hills in the vicinity. The Trail is well marked so chances of getting lost are almost nill.

My journey to Bahubali Hills

With Udaipur being my hometown, I have been to Bahuballi Hills a couple of times. The place is quite close to my heart and I have spent hours sitting at the top of this hill just gazing at the Badi lake and the nearby mountains. A trek to Bahubali hills is what you should not miss on your trip to Udaipur.

Bahubali Hill with Dad

One with Dad

I wanted to capture the place in my new GoPro camera, so I along with my dad started from home around 5:30 am. The place is generally crowded as it has gained huge popularity in recent times. So if you are one who looks to avoid the crowd, I will highly recommend you to visit it very early morning. Also if you can visit the place on a weekday, you will find comparatively fewer people than weekends. You can have the whole place to yourself and get a perfect capture.

En route to Bahubali Hill

Enroute to Bahubali Hills from Udaipur

We parked our bike at the parking just next to the new trek route which has recently been developed by the village. The feeling of walking on the trail with marvellous views of Badi Lake is a moment to cheer about. The trail isn’t much steep, and within no time we found ourselves at the top.

At the top, there is a small tea stall where you can get basic eateries. Further ahead of the stall lies the viewpoint which is the most talked about. The views from this point will leave you flabbergasted. There are various points to capture the nearby region with different angles, so make sure you explore it to fullest. Sunset views from the hill are spectacular as well.

Me admiring Bahubali Hill views

One thing I felt bad is that huge trash has started to pile up all along the hill and it is increasing with every passing day. Even I have seen broken liquor bottles. How can one even think of throwing garbage at this magical place? Isn’t it a stupidity!! I myself have collected trash from this hill a couple of times. It’s a humble request to everyone to please avoid throwing thrash. Please!!!

surrounding views from Bahubali Hill

After capturing the place on the GoPro, we started with the descend and within no time we were at the base. If you have more time with you, I would highly recommend exploring Badi lake.  Also, if you are trekking enthusiastic, just look out for Hill Top widespread point on Gmaps. The point is on a hill just adjacent to Badi Lake main parking. It provides a great view of the lake. The route isn’t marked properly, you will have to find your own way.

from Hill Top widespread point near Bahubali Hill badi lake

From Hill Top widespread point near Badi lake

After exploring the other mountain as well, we returned home. Unlike Mr Bahubali I wasn’t in search of the blue butterfly but rather an adventure, and guess I only end up getting more.

Best time to visit Bahuballi Hill

The best time to visit Bahubali Hills is definitely the monsoon months of July to September as the whole region is lush green and the views are spectacular. In the other season, the views aren’t bad either as the adjacent mountains are covered with Yellowish grass. The place is such a gem, whatever season you visit it, I am sure you will be left mesmerized.

Most trekkers take this route only because from this route they get to enjoy the village vibes as well.

Even though the lake was artificial, the water supplied to the citizens of Udaipur during the 1990s made people’s lives quite simple. Slowly, the place became popular by the name Bahubali Hills and people started searching for How to Reach Bahubali Hills from Udaipur.

So, let’s take a dig at that.

BAHUBALI HILL: Nature’s Hidden Gem in the Lake City of Udaipur #MyDiscovery

Photo of Sudha | Sassy Naari

When we think about Udaipur, the images that crosses our minds are man made royal palaces and artificial lakes.

But what if I tell you that there is more to Udaipur besides its lavish palaces , lakes and all its regality ! Yes, The ‘city of Lakes’ has a hidden gem of nature tucked away in one of its lakes.

About 12 kms away from the hustle-bustle of the city life of Udaipur, is lake Badi in its namesake village.

The lake is not as popular as its famous counterparts like Lake Pichola or Lake Fateh Sagar, but is slowly gathering people’s attention as the hidden natural beauty which was recently discovered is located just 1 km from the lake and is called Bahubali hills or Badi hills, as the locals call it.

Photo of BAHUBALI HILL: Nature’s Hidden Gem in the Lake City of Udaipur #MyDiscovery by Sudha | Sassy Naari

I was ecstatic when I found out about Badi Hills and as nature delights me more than man-made architecture, the first place I went to explore after reaching Udaipur was lake Badi and Badi hills.

Though, I was quite surprised, how such a beautiful place could still remain unexplored.

How did I stumble upon this place?

Before venturing upon a new journey, I always do my research and chalk out my itinerary in advance, so that I don’t miss out on any new and exciting place.

When it comes to finding new offbeat locations, I resort to Instagram for travel inspiration as I find Instagram more informative than any other social media platform or search engines.

This is how I found out about Bahubali hills through Instagram and was instantly mesmerised by its beauty.

Tip: Search for relevant hashtags and locations of near -by places on Instagram to get an idea of off-beat locations.

About Badi Lake

Lake Badi is an artificial fresh water lake built by Maharana Raj Singh I (1652-1680) in the village of Badi, to compensate for the devastation caused by a famine.

The lake supplied water to the people of Udaipur during a drought in 1973.

Photo of Badi Lake, Morwaniya, Rajasthan, India by Sudha | Sassy Naari

Lake Badi is now home to a rare species of fish, Mahseer,(aka Tor Khudree/Deccan Mahseer).

The lake is graced by three artistic chhatris along the embankment, which can be seen from Badi hill and serves as a tourist attraction.

How did Bahubali hill get its name?

The hills are referred to as Badi hills, by the locals. Even the locals were not sure how their Badi hills suddenly became so popular and was now known as Bahubali hills.

A few of them said that, to some tourists, the hills looked similar to the hills in a famous movie “Bahubali”. So they started referring to them by the movie’s name.

Whatever be the reason, after all, what’s in a name.!

And God bless the soul who discovered this place for us to see.

How to reach Badi Lake & Badi Hill

Lake Badi is approximately 10 kms from the city centre and about 7 kms from Fateh sagar lake . One can stop over at the lake for some serenity before heading towards Badi Hills, which is just 1 km away from Lake Badi.

The best way to reach Badi village is via a rented bike, as one can go at one’s own pace. Other options include cabs and auto rickshaws.

The location is easily navigable via google maps. While going towards the village, the road bifurcates into two paths.

There is a signboard which mentions “Nathawaton Ka Guda” written in Hindi near the bifurcation. Take that road. If still in doubts, it’s always best to ask the locals nearby.

Photo of BAHUBALI HILL: Nature’s Hidden Gem in the Lake City of Udaipur #MyDiscovery by Sudha | Sassy Naari

Tip: There is a resort named Aravali Silence LakeEnd Resort in Badi village. If the google map doesn’t show Bahubali hills, reach till the resort as the hike towards Bahubali hills begins from near the resort.

Near the silent resort in the village, the locals have a temporary parking space for vehicles near the resort area, for which they charge a nominal fee.

The parking area marks the starting point of the small uphill hike which takes about 10 minutes to reach Bahubali hills.

The trail is not very well marked, but is easily accessible and doable on one’s own.

Tip: To maintain the sanctity of the nearby villages do not play loud music during the hike and while at the hills.

At the end of the trail there’s a make-shift stall selling snacks and tea as refreshments.

Further ahead there are numerous foliage of cacti.

View from the Top

Bahubali Hills Udaipur

Often good things happen in a breeze and when it does, it’s difficult to believe.

That’s how I felt when I reached the top and saw the first glimpse of the hills, as the view from the top was absolutely breathtaking and I couldn’t believe that it took a bare 10 minutes hike to witness such beauty.

Photo of Bahubali Hills Udaipur, Morwaniya, Rajasthan, India by Sudha | Sassy Naari

Beyond the foliage is the edge of the viewpoint where one can watch the entire panorama of the lake Badi overlooking the spectacular ridges of Aravali range as the backdrop, with Bahubali hills being the cynosure.

Photo of BAHUBALI HILL: Nature’s Hidden Gem in the Lake City of Udaipur #MyDiscovery by Sudha | Sassy Naari

A part of Bahubali hills when viewed from Badi lake looks like a brown bear lying on its stomach. But when viewed from the viewpoint or from a drone, one of the hills resembles an approaching alligator and the pointed tip of the base of the hill appears like the snout of the alligator while the hill in front of the viewpoint resembles a resting turtle.

Photo of BAHUBALI HILL: Nature’s Hidden Gem in the Lake City of Udaipur #MyDiscovery by Sudha | Sassy Naari

Things to carry when hiking to the Hills

It’s a small uphill hike towards the viewpoint, and there is just one makeshift stall for refreshments.

Therefore I would suggest that you bring a daypack with a few essentials such as a reusable water bottle(I had my own bottle),snacks, a sunscreen, scarf/stole, cap & sunglasses to protect yourself from the heat and a good pair of shoes (avoid heels/flats) for walking on the trail.

Photo of BAHUBALI HILL: Nature’s Hidden Gem in the Lake City of Udaipur #MyDiscovery by Sudha | Sassy Naari

Tip: Carry your own water bottles, and try not to litter the place to help retain the natural beauty of the place. Make sure to take your waste back with you.

Nature’s hack: Aloe vera is known for its cooling and moisturising properties and there were small scrubs of aloe vera growing abundantly near the stall. So if you burn your skin, you know what to use. Mother Nature takes care of everything.

Best time & sea son to visit

Having visited the place just once, I cannot really say when it is the best time and season to visit Bahubali hills, as every time and season has its own charm.

However, that being said, sunsets and sunrises from such viewpoints offers stunning panoramas of the Aravali ranges.

Photo of Bahubali Hills Udaipur, Morwaniya, Rajasthan, India by Sudha | Sassy Naari

I reached at around 4pm in the afternoon and stayed till 7pm to watch the sunset which was beautiful.

Therefore, I would highly recommend visiting an hour before sunset to witness the sun setting behind the horizon.

But try not to stay late till dusk as the locals say that it gets secluded after dusk and finding one’s way back becomes difficult. While returning from the hills,I stopped to click the sunset from Badi lake.

Photo of BAHUBALI HILL: Nature’s Hidden Gem in the Lake City of Udaipur #MyDiscovery by Sudha | Sassy Naari

The weather in Udaipur is pleasant almost throughout the year, except for the months of March till May- when it is peak summer time in Rajasthan. Monsoons are the best time to visit.

So the next time you are in Udaipur, make sure you visit this hidden gem-‘Bahubali hills’.

Bahubali Hills Udaipur – A Paradise Discovered by Youth

In this blog, you’ll be described a serene location in Udaipur which has now become a well-renowned tourist spot.

The young blood of Udaipur proved that this country has the most brilliant youngsters waiting to present their theories, ideas, explorations, techniques to the world.

The Bahubali Hills which has now successfully entered the list of renowned tourist spots of Udaipur has quite a story behind its discovery and naming.

Bahubali Hills in Udaipur

Bahubali Hills in Udaipur

  • The Bahubali Hill situated near the Badi Lake was brought to light by some cheerful young locals of the city, who went on an uncalled exploration expedition near the lake. They then stumbled upon this elevated structure that could be climbed upon by an unstructured pathway.
  • Climbing up on the hill, the aerial astounding brief view of the Lake and valley made them spread the word out about this retreat.
  • This hill was later named by the youths when the famous movie Bahubali was released, which was based on a brave character named ‘Bahubali’ who couldn’t be defeated but was murdered by deception by his close one.

Evolution of the Hill

  • There is now a proper parking system, regulated by an elder nearby village resident who makes sure your vehicle remains safely parked.
  • With the crowd visiting frequently a small tea shop has also been opened at the top serving refreshments with a view.
  • There was a complaint about the youngsters polluting this delightful sight which was later resolved by a bunch of other young people who went up the hill and cleaned the place by wiping off the spray paint off the rocks and installing trash cans.
  • The walkway with so many people visiting daily has been now easy to trek and can be accomplished by everyone.

Things to Keep in Mind

  • Wear comfortable trekking shoes, as it is a small and safe 10 minutes trek up the hill.
  • If you carry any eatables up the hill, make sure you either carry back the wrappers or put them in a dust bin.
  • The small eatery present there tend to charge extra than the MRP.
  • When you reach up the hill, it can be a bit dangerous to walk up to the edge, be extra careful, people with health issues are advised to take precaution.
  • Carry your drones for a much wider shot of the valley.
  • Catch the glimpse rising sun or the setting sun from the top of the hill for an absolutely delightful experience.
  • One can also have a mesmerizing pre-wedding shoot on the top if you’d want to capture the essence of the city in a frame along with your well brewed love with your beau.

How to Reach Bahubali Hills?

  • Bahubali Hills is located on the outskirts of Udaipur city, therefore can take up to 45 minutes by car or bike.
  • Reach the Badi Lake, and take a right turn towards the Silence Resort. The road will lead you towards a bit narrow path, keep looking at your left, soon you’ll spot a parking space. Park your respective vehicles here, pay the parking fee, and trek up the hill from the pathway.
  • You can also use Google Maps.
  • It would be great to take a cab, but usually, the cab drivers do not take you to the Badi lake, in that case renting a vehicle is the best option.

why bahubali hills are closed now?

Some kind of construction is going on.

I have visited bahubali hills today i.e 7th June, 2022 and just want to clarify that Google Maps suggest some unknown track while using directions. Once you reach nearby just close directions and zoom in near the actual location and you’ll find a narrow road. That’s where the small trek starts. Try to reach there before 6am to avoid crowd.

Badi Lake In Udaipur – A Complete Guide

Posted on Last updated: 8 March 2024

Categories India

Badi Lake is a beautiful destination with an awesome viewpoint located just 12km outside of Udaipur. Here’s all the info for visiting.

Table of Contents

How To Get To Badi Lake

Badi Lake is located in the village of Badi, around 12km from the city of Udaipur.

The best way to reach the lake from Udaipur is to rent a taxi/tuk tuk driver for the day.

We recommend getting a group of people together and negotiating a price you’re all happy to split.

There’s also a parking area at the entrance to Badi Lake, where the driver can pay 20 Rupees to wait for you.

If you’re looking to trek to the top of the Bahubali Hill, we recommend following google maps to ‘Sunset Point’ and starting from there.

The trek is not too strenuous and takes roughly 20-30 minutes.

However it is a little rough/rocky, so may not be suitable for children.

For those short on time, or that prefer everything to be organised for them, there are some awesome tours on Get Your Guide available to book in advance.

Badi Lake Entrance Fee

The lake is free to enter and is also free to hike to the top of the Bahubali Hill viewpoint.

There are no gates or guards patrolling the lake.

Badi Lake Opening Times

Again as there are no gates or guards patrolling Badi Lake, you can visit at anytime.

However locals discourage tourists to visit past sunset, as it is often a destination large groups of people choose to get drunk.

Badi Lake Udaipur Lake Badi

Best Time To Visit Badi Lake

Udaipur is a good place to visit all year round, and the temperature never really drops.

However we would recommend trying to avoid monsoon season which runs between July – September.

The best time to visit Badi Lake would be early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the peak heat of the day.

You will never find many tourists at Badi Lake, whichever time you choose to visit, as it’s not an extremely well known destination.

We visited in the morning and pretty much had the whole hike to ourselves, making for a peaceful trek and beautiful views!

Badi Lake History

Badi Lake is an artificial lake that was built by Maharan Raj Singh I, in the village of Badi in 1680.

It was built with the intention to counter the effects of famine and drought in the Udaipur region, and went ahead to serve as a primary source of water during the droughts of 1973.

Nowadays tourists from all over India, as well as international visitors, head to the lake for hiking and swimming.

As well as a destination to catch a glimpse of the incredible views from the top of Bahubali Hill.

Badi Lake Udaipur Lake Badi Bahubali Hill Viewpoint

What To Expect At Badi Lake In Udaipur

The hike from Badi Lake to the top of Bahubali Hill begins at Sunset Point and takes roughly 30 minutes to summit.

It’s not too strenuous, and once you reach the top, you can enjoy the 180 degree view of Badi Lake and its surrounding.

Badi Lake and Bahubali Hill are not on the usual tourist circuit of Udaipur, however, luckily we were advised to check them out by a local.

After exploring and climbing through the cacti all the way up, our jaws literally dropped and cameras came straight out at the viewpoint.

On a clear day you can see for miles, and the jagged islands that protrude Badi Lake give some of the mountains in Europe a run for their money.

Badi Lake in Udaipur really is a hidden gem for nature lovers. With a pleasant, quiet environment and almost no people in sight we recommend taking a picnic and spending a few hours exploring.

Bahubali Hills – An Unexpected Hike to See the Breathtaking Lake!

' data-srcset=

Bahubali Hills sounds like an out-of-the-box place to visit. But, indeed, it lives up to out-of-box expectations.

Undoubtedly, lakes and palaces remain your top priority when planning for Udaipur.

Vansh Tiwari at Gangaur Ghat

But you will be surprised to know that you can do a short hike to Bahubali Hills to see the gorgeous Udaipur Badi Lake. Though, it was an eye-opener for me — breathtaking views.

Because when I had planned for Udaipur, hiking to a hilltop was far from the thought.

Indeed, Badi Lake, Badi Talab, the same thing.

Udaipur Lake City

Udaipur lake City Morning View

Out of context,

In the hostel I stayed, I met many people that arrived from Ahmedabad. Even the bus I sat on from Delhi ultimately traveled to Ahmedabad and stopped at Udaipole in Udaipur to drop off the passengers. So, a lot of Gujaratis I found during my visit.

Coming back to the topic,

Mainly, I celebrated  Holi in Udaipur ; on that particular day, everything remained closed. Thus, I explored Udaipur in the following days.

Firstly, I plan to cover faraway places; therefore,

  • Badi Lake was the first place to visit.
Little did I know that Bahubali Hills hugs Badi Lake. Accordingly, when I arrived at Badi Lake, I got to know.

But, before proceeding with your journey to the Bahubali Hills, Ultimately, to see the Stunning Badi Lake, I would like you to know a few things.

5 Things to Know Before Visiting the Bahubali Hills

Things to know before Visiting Bahubali Hills Infographic

There exist various things that I strongly want to tell for considerably better experiences. Below, I have expressed my thoughts in detail:

1. To Leave Early Morning is Way Better

Rajasthan is year-wise well-known for its superheated climate. Therefore, make sure to utilize the morning, approximately before 10 a.m.

I reached the Bahubali hilltop precisely at 12p.m, and the scorching sun made me tan. Moreover, hiking when the sun is above you becomes pretty challenging.

Thus, I consider the morning the best time to visit the bahubali hills in Udaipur.

Still, if you plan to visit in the Afternoon, do not expose any part of your body to the sun — Wear a cap, full sleeves clothes, and track pants/jeans.

2. Rent a Scooty in Udaipur

Udaipur to Bhaubali Hills distance is roughly 15kms. Therefore, it’s best to rent a scooty for the day.

Renting Scooty in Udaipur will cost you around Rs. 400 – Rs. 500, though I got it for Rs. 500.

In addition, the scooty owner told me that if you had asked me yesterday, I would have given Rs. 400. Specifically, I didn’t understand how a day can create a difference of Rs. 100. Haha!

Notably, check the scooty properly by taking a test drive. The scooty I took and the handle with a pointed grip caused the ride to be uncomfortable.

3. Slippers, Not Allowed!

I strongly feel you should not wear slippers when going to Bahubali Hills because, as I conveyed before, you must hike for some time.

Thus, shoes will remain perfectly suited.

Besides, the path is rough and steep; hence, shoes will provide grip and comfort.

4. Carry Lightweight

Being lightweight reduces the load from the shoulder, and you would hike more freely.

I reached and realized; that I could have been lighter because I was carrying a bag with cameras and a laptop.

Carry lightweight Bag to the Bahubali Hills

But, I could have left the laptop in the hostel; nevertheless, would you make sure you carry the bag lightweight?

5. Stay Hydrated

Carry water bottles with you,

Aye! Not a water bottle, indeed, water bottles to stay hydrated.

After returning from the hilltop, my friend and I drank water all day as we became dehydrated riding Scooty in the sun. I couldn’t remember the last time I drank almost 3-4 bottles of water in half-day, moreover, in a few hours.

Later, I learned that hunger wasn’t for food but for water.

Udaipur to bahubali hills morwaniya.

  • Don’t forget to leave early morning!

When you rent a scooty, bring that filled from the nearest petrol station and start your journey to see Badi Lake; simultaneously, open Google maps.

Ultimately, the map will make the way seem more straightforward; if you remain dependent on asking anybody, you might take more extended time than required.

I took a path that went through the villages.

Remain Careful

While driving through the Villages,

I saw a family blocking the way ahead and demanding Rs. 10 to let us proceed forward. Similarly, like a toll tax.

Though, speak politely and remain calm. Indeed, stay focused on moving ahead. You will move fast. That’s not necessary; you would encounter the same experience.

In addition, drive carefully, as you may see the bumpy roads.

I first learned about Badi Lake; then, I decided to visit the Bahubali Hills after that — I didn’t know that both existed neighbors to each other. Tweet

Likewise, I can stand on the terrace of Bahubali Hills to admire Badi Lake!

On Reaching the Base of Bahubali Hills

You can’t determine where Bahubali Point is while on the road.

Though, you have to park your scooty. Then, take a ticket of Rs. 10 to Bahubali Hills.

Before that, I had no idea that we needed to hike, so that remains unexpected.

You will gain 300m in height from the ground to Bahubali Hills on moving. In addition, the route stands rugged, But you can easily decide the way forward.

Along with Bahubali Hills , you won’t want to miss the other 4 places to visit in Udaipur in 2 days .

Though I visited Udaipur in March, are you considering visiting Udaipur in April ?

It will take around 15-20mins average, depending on your speed, to reach the hilltop.

Also, there is a shop on the hilltop if you require wafers, water bottles, etc. But don’t rely on anything; carry your own, notably, remain lightweight.

Overlooking Badi Lake from Hilltop

Badi Lake seen from Bahubali Hills

Indeed, Badi Lake is extremely Badi.

Moreover, the mountain in between seemed like another island to me.

However, from Island, I remembered the  Andaman Islands ; you can also consider reading that.

Moving forward,

Standing on Bahubali Hill overlooking Badi Lake is the most pleasing combination of nature.

I overlooked the heated sun above my head.

Furthermore, I started snapping.

Badi Lake Captured from Bahubali Hills

Not highly crowded, but a group of individuals was present.

You must step carefully as sharp rock edges and thorns are present.

Vansh Tiwari Snapping Badi Lake

I moved to see a location that would appear perfect for jaw-dropping scenery. Hence, I saw multiple spots that remained pretty jammed with visitors. Thus, I chose one place and stood there.

The accompanying friend then came to the exact spot I had chosen.

Selfie from the Mate

The strong breeze was blowing. That ultimately made the scenery more appealing because it would stand next to impossible to stay there long because of the burning sun.

Thus, I stood there for 40-45 minutes, then headed backward.

Furthermore, I could feel that viewing the sunset from there would be an excellent decision. Indeed, I will read about that later!

Downwards from Bahubali Point to the Scooty Parking

If it takes 25 minutes to reach the top of the hill, it will take half the time to come down.

You already know that descending is likely easier than ascending. But stay extra cautious as the chances of slipping increase.

Consider reading, How can Gangaur Ghat Become the Highlight of Your Udaipur Trip?

You will agree with me that,

The decision to cover distant places soaks the energy. But, eventually, if the location is similar to Bahubali Hills overlooking Badi Lake, the body immediately refreshes to capture the moment.

Badi Lake

Moreover, the soul leaps in excitement; hurray!

Further, you can follow me on Instagram for image-related content.

Also, I have a question,

Did you like the way I expressed Bahubali Hills in the article?

Hiking to Bahubali Hills

Upon reaching Badi village, you’ll find a temporary parking area near Aravali Silence LakeEnd Resort. The hike to Bahubali Hills commences from this point and takes around 10 minutes. Bahubali Hill (Badi Lake) – Best sunset point in Udaipur

What if we told you that you can escape the bustling city of Udaipur for a quiet, relaxing and scenic sunset? Bahubali Hill, overlooking Badi Lake, will be that peaceful evening trip you’re looking for. It’s not hard to find your way here but it’s also not super straightforward, especially since you won’t find this name on Google Maps. Keep reading to plan your visit the right way and know what to expect.

Are you planning to visit India? Start here:

Bahubali Hill – The best sunset point in Udaipur

If you’re chasing sunsets in India, then add Bahubali Hill to your list: it is arguably the best spot to admire the sunset in Udaipur.

The city of lakes offers several viewpoints where you can watch the sunset, ranging from the Monsoon Palace to Karni Mata temple, all of which are worth checking out. Fun fact about the Monsoon Palace; it was built to admire the dark clouds of the monsoon. As the name suggests, it offers a 360-degree view over the valleys surrounding Udaipur, which during monsoon season must offer a particular view. While the Monsoon Palace is beautiful and it’s considered by many as the best sunset spot in Udaipur, nothing beats the natural landscape that can be found in Bahubali Hill.

When searching for Bahubali Hill you will come across Badi Lake. The Bahubali Hill, as the name suggests, is an elevated point offering the most scenic views of the lake.

Fun fact: the place is known amongst locals as Badi hills, but it became popular (especially amongst foreigners) as Bahubali hills, reportedly as it recalls the scenery of the famous Indian movie “Bahubali”.

We’re sure you won’t need much convincing of this after you’ve finished reading our post!

About Badi Lake near Bahubali Hill

We’ve mentioned Badi lake, now what about it? Well, Badi Lake is actually an artificial lake located about 12km north of Udaipur, surrounded by the Aravalli Hills. It was created in the late 17th century by the ruler of Mewar, Maharana Raj Singh I, as a reservoir to curb the effects of a devastating famine that struck his land. Today the lake remains an important one for the nearby area as it still provides people with a supply of fresh water.

Today the water of Badi Lake is the cleanest in Udaipur, and its surroundings make it the perfect place for relaxing and escaping the bustling streets of the city as it’s completely free from commercial activity.

How to get to Bahubali Hill

If you’re wondering how you reach Bahubali Hill, your best bet will be to get a rickshaw driver or taxi from Udaipur. Even though there is no pin precisely locating “Bahubali” on Google Maps (there is one but it’s in Hindi, ” बाहुबली हिल ” ), just ask the driver about Bahubali Hill and he will immediately know the location and drop-off point as it’s a hot destination.

Below is the exact location of the Bahubali Hill viewpoint:

When planning, note that the Bahubali Hill viewpoint is only accessible on foot. From the city centre, the parking of Bahubali is about 12km away and it takes about 30 minutes by car or slightly more than that by rickshaw. Below you can find the route details as well as the exact location of the parking lot.

The drive is quite smooth and it passes through some very quiet areas, but keep your camera ready as there will be some interesting sights on the way!

Bahubali Hill – Hike details

From the parking lot, you will spot a little trail going up on the right side. The hike starts here, and – overall – it’s a short and easy one to reach the top of Bahubali Hill. The path is very dusty, but not particularly slippery, and it’s easy to walk up.

Parking lot at Bahubali Hill

The incline is also very modest, which makes it accessible to everyone. At the top of the hill, a local man set up a rudimental tent where he sells some basic goods. He keeps a horse to – supposedly – bring the goods up the trail.

From here, keep walking in the direction of the sun and you’ll soon reach the spot you see in the Bahubali Hill pictures.

Entrance Fee

Yes. It’s hard to believe but there is a fee for everything in India, even for climbing Bahubali Hill!

Sitting at the beginning of the trail we found some locals asking for a 10 rupee fee. Honestly, there is no way these “ticket areas” are legit, but everyone was paying it (mostly locals) and it was just $0.12 USD so we sort of went with the flow. Our driver also warned us that we should expect to have to pay a small fee upon arrival.

Why Bahubali Hill is the best sunset point in Udaipur

If you’ve been to India in the past or you’re currently travelling through the country, you’ve probably experienced what we’re about to say. With a population of over 1.4 billion people, it’s no question that India is crowded. Whether it’s day or night, it is always crowded. Always.

While it is beautiful to see the streets and terraces full, and the sounds of the city, it can feel overwhelming at times and you may find yourself wanting to spend some days in quieter more relaxing environments. Bahubali Hill offers a break from this constant chaos, and even though there will still be people here to watch the sun setting behind the mountains, the place really is a peaceful oasis in an otherwise busy hustle and bustle city.

– Is Bahubali Hill a better sunset point than the Monsoon Palace?

If you ask us, it is. The Monsoon Palace is still a very beautiful place to visit, but you will find SO MANY people at sunset. If you’re looking for something quieter, then Bahubali Hill is the best choice.

Things to keep in mind

Leave Udaipur in time – Keep in mind that you’ll need about 30 minutes to reach the parking lot and an extra 15-20 minutes to climb the hill. In addition to that, the sun sets behind the mountains which means that you want to get there as early as possible, otherwise, you’ll miss the window of time for the sunset.

Ask your driver to wait for you – Bahubali Hill is far from Udaipur and there are no shops or accommodations/houses nearby. This means you won’t find any rickshaws here on the way back, and it’s wise to ask your driver to stay until you are done .

Expect to find some pre-wedding photoshoots – Pre-wedding photoshoots are a huge thing in India, and Bahubali Hill seems to be a popular spot amongst young couples and photographers. Even on a regular day, we found 3 couples shooting their photos here at sunset.

Bring a headlight – If you plan on visiting Bahubali Hill before sunrise or you want to stay longer after the sun sets, bringing a headlight would be wise. Bahubali Hill is far from the city and there are no lights along the trail.

Best time to visit Bahubali Hill

Sunset is the best time of the day to visit Bahubali Hills, but you can also opt to hike it in the morning. At sunrise, there will be even fewer people, and the sun rises from a nice spot too.

For what concerns the best season to visit Bahubali Hill, you need to remember India is affected by a very wet and a very dry season, During the monsoon season (mid-June to September) everything is lush and green, while from December onwards the landscape will begin to look dryer as the months pass, with less vegetation and an orange-ish tint.

Probably the monsoon season is the best time to visit Bahubali Hill, but we’ve been during winter (January) and the views were just as spectacular.

Where to stay in Udaipur

Udaipur’s accommodation scene is a harmonious blend of opulence, heritage, and modern comfort, befitting the city’s royal legacy and picturesque surroundings. The city offers a diverse range of lodging options that cater to various preferences and budgets.

BEST HOSTELS: Dreamyard Udaipur (from $10 USD/night per person) – amazing rooftop and great reviews, recommended for solo travellers. Musafir Hostel Udaipur (from $8 USD/night per person) – great location and awesome common areas. Hostel Mantra (from $12 USD/night per person) – amazing hostel vibes and view!

ON A BUDGET: Nandini Paying Guest House ( $10 USD/night for two people ), Black Pepper Home Stay ( from $10 USD/night for two people ).

MID-RANGE: Lassi Guest House (from $25 USD/night for two people) , Tamasha Udaipur (from $28 USD/night for two people) .

LUXURY: The Experience Resort (from $120 USD/night for two people) , Taj Fateh Prakash Palace Udaipur (from $560 USD/night for two people) .

BACKPACKERS IN THE WORLD’S RECOMMENDATIONS: When it comes to selecting accommodation in Udaipur, there are some great options! If we were to revisit the City of Lakes with someone, we’d definitely consider Tamasha Udaipur for its excellent value for money. As solo travelers, our top choices for a bunk-bed would be either Hostel Mantra or Dreamyard —they stand out as the best hostels in town. It’s a close call, but Mantra probably wins for its great vibes and stunning views.

Kamala Harris, Traveling to Arizona, Will Slam Trump Over Abortion

The vice president is set to lean into a partywide attack on Donald Trump and fellow Republicans, who are newly on the defensive over the issue.

Vice President Kamala Harris speaking at a lectern.

By Nicholas Nehamas ,  Lisa Lerer and Reid J. Epstein

Vice President Kamala Harris will travel to Arizona on Friday to assail former President Donald J. Trump over abortion restrictions, with plans to blame him for bans in the state and across the country.

In her remarks at a rally in Tucson, Ms. Harris will lean into the Biden campaign’s new attack line on laws pushed by Republicans that have cut off abortion access for millions of American women: Donald Trump did this.

She is also planning a new way to hit the former president, arguing that a second Trump administration would enforce the Comstock Act, a rarely used federal law from 1873, to circumvent Congress and ban medication abortion nationwide.

“They want to use another law from the 1800s — the Comstock Act — to ban medication abortion in all 50 states,” Ms. Harris is expected to say in Tucson, according to Biden campaign aides. “A ban that would include states where abortion is currently legal.”

Medication abortions now account for the majority of abortions nationwide, so enforcement of the Comstock Act could have a significant impact on the availability of the procedure.

While the former president has never specifically mentioned the act publicly, some of his allies have begun sketching out proposals to enforce it through executive actions . The law, once considered a constitutional relic, prohibits the mailing of “obscene, lewd, or lascivious” materials and has become part of a high-profile lawsuit seeking to halt the availability of abortion pills.

This week, Arizona became the center of the national debate on reproductive rights after a ruling by the state’s top court upheld an 1864 law banning nearly all abortions. The decision gave Democrats around the country an opportunity to focus their races on abortion rights, a strategy that has led to unexpected victories for the party over the last two years. The Biden campaign has already released two new ads this week hammering Mr. Trump on abortion.

“The overturning of Roe was a seismic event,” Ms. Harris is expected to say in Tucson, according to a copy of her prepared remarks distributed by the Biden campaign. “And this ban in Arizona is one of the biggest aftershocks yet.”

Ms. Harris’s comments on Friday may be some of the most direct and extended attacks that she has made against Mr. Trump on the issue. While she has appeared frequently at events about abortion rights, she has often done so in her official capacity, limiting her ability to criticize Republicans. The event in Tucson, however, is a campaign rally, meaning Ms. Harris can speak more freely.

“We all must understand who is to blame,” her prepared remarks say. “It is the former president, Donald Trump. It is Donald Trump who, during his campaign in 2016, said women should be punished for seeking an abortion.”

The vice president’s trip to Arizona was planned before the ruling and was originally supposed to involve an official event on student debt. But even before the court ruling, Ms. Harris insisted that abortion rights become the focus instead and that the campaign take over, according to three Democratic officials familiar with the planning.

The timing could not have been better for the Biden campaign. On Monday, Mr. Trump released a video saying that abortion restrictions should be left up to the states. The next day, the Arizona Supreme Court upheld a prestatehood law banning nearly all abortions, without exceptions for rape and incest. (The law, which Mr. Trump has since criticized , has not yet gone into effect.)

Republicans have been left on the defensive, including Kari Lake, the Trump ally running for an open Senate seat in Arizona. Two years ago, when she was running for governor, Ms. Lake called the Civil War-era abortion ban “a great law.” But on Thursday, she released a five-minute video , saying that “this total ban on abortion” was “out of line with where the people of this state are.”

“I chose life,” said Ms. Lake, who has two children, of her own pregnancies. “But I’m not every woman. I want to make sure that every woman who finds herself pregnant has more choices so that she can make that choice that I made.”

Ms. Lake’s stark shift shows how much the politics of abortion have changed since Supreme Court justices appointed by Mr. Trump ruled in favor of a Mississippi law in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization and abolished the constitutional right to abortion.

“This is the first presidential election since Dobbs. And it is a massively important issue because it does affect every woman in some capacity. It just does,” said Stephanie Schriock, former president of Emily’s List, the powerful organization that seeks to elect Democratic women who support abortion rights. “It crosses people’s minds because women are dealing with this stuff all the time, particularly those of reproductive age, which is a pretty big swath of all of Gen Z and millennials.”
