In this post I’m sharing all of my best tips about when to visit, what it’s like in spring and summer versus fall and winter, and some of the most unique seasonal events and unique things to do in Panama City Beach Florida!

Let me ask you this… when you hear Panama City Beach do you picture spring break and all the craziness that comes along with that? I did too until I moved here about a year ago and I’ve seen for myself what PCB is all about, and it’s got tons more to offer than just spring break. Let me share what I’ve discovered over the past year:

Spring in Panama City Beach: March, April & May

Springtime in Panama City Beach is a gorgeous time of year. Starting in March the average temperature is 72 degrees, warming up in April to about 77 degrees and in May the average high is in the low 80s. March kicks off Spring Break and marks the beginning of wonderful weather in PCB.

Spring is also the least rainy time of year so if you want to have a better chance of enjoying the sunshine and spending lots of time outdoors springtime is a great bet. By visiting Panama City Beach in spring time you’re also avoiding the most muggy and humid summertime months.

Things To Do in Springtime in PCB

Spring is a gorgeous, warm and sunny (less crowded) time to visit the Florida Panhandle and especially Panama City Beach! Listed below are some of the unique seasonal events and cool things to do during springtime in PCB:

The Panama City Beach Scottish Festival happens yearly in early March and has been a tradition for over 27 years
A local favorite is the Emerald Coast Cruizn Car Show. It actually occurs twice every year – once in early March and again in early November
UNwineD is an event that happens every March and features wine and spirits from around the world, outdoor concerts and more
The Panama City Beach Seabreeze Jazz Festival happens every year in late April and has been named one of the Top 10 Jazz Festivals in the USA
Local PCB bar and restaurant Schooner’s hosts a Cajun Festival every April where you can enjoy Cajun food and music on the beach
Thunder Beach Bike Rally is arguably the most popular event happening every May. This event typically occurs at the very beginning of May and again in late October
Another super popular May event in PCB is the Florida Jeep Jam which is in its sixth year and draws Jeep lovers from around the country to PCB. This event happens in mid May
The Ironman 70.3 Gold Coast Triathlon is another event unique to the Florida Panhandle and has been coming to PCB for over 39 years in mid-May
If mixed martial arts is your thing, Panama City Beach hosts the annual MMA Beatdown At The Beach yearly in early May
Another interesting event to look out for is the annual Pro Watercross National Tour which has been known to stop in Panama City Beach in May
Grand Lagoon Taco and Tequila Fest happens every May in PCB
In nearby Alys Beach, Digital Graffiti is a recurring annual event that features art projected onto buildings in the community and is a must see if you’re in the area in May

Summer in Panama City Beach: June, July & August

Summertime in Panama City Beach is HOT! Average daily temperatures are in the 80s to 90s and you can definitely expect humidity. Something that’s great about summer time in PCB is that the lows are still in the 70s so you can really enjoy the day’s warmth from morning til night. If you’re not a fan of extreme high heat, you’ll love that PCB very rarely gets above the mid 90s.

Summertime is the peak season in Panama City Beach, but did you know it’s also the rainiest time of year? It doesn’t mean that summertime isn’t a great time to take a trip but you can definitely expect to have showers and sprinkles on most days.

Things To Do in Summer in PCB

Summer is the quintessential time to visit the gorgeous beaches of PCB and make memories. Below are some of the unique seasonal events and cool things happening during summertime:

Pepsi Gulf Coast Jam is an annual country music event that happens yearly in PCB in early June
If you love hot air balloons like I do, you’ll definitely want to check out the Panama City Beach Balloon Festival which is a newer event and occurs in late June
The city hosts an outdoor Summer Concert Series every Tuesday at Aaron Bessant Park in June, July and August. The huge outdoor Amphitheater and central location in PCB make this a can’t-miss event
In nearby Apalachicola (which is about a 45-minute scenic drive from PCB) you can check out the Forgotten Coast Sea Turtle Festival which happens at the end of June
July is all about Independence Day in Panama City Beach where you’ll be wowed by the largest display of fireworks on the Gulf Coast! The city of PCB sets off fireworks from multiple piers on Independence Day after the sun goes down
The Summer Concert Series continues every Tuesday at Aaron Bessant Park in June, July and August. The huge outdoor Amphitheater and central location in PCB make this a can’t-miss event
The summer concert series continues in August so check it out every Tuesday evening at Aaron Bessant Park
The Florida Pride Festival also happens in early August in nearby Panama City
The World Water Ski Championships have also been known to make a stop in PCB in late August

Fall in Panama City Beach: September, October & November

My personal favorite time of year to visit Panama City Beach is fall! The months of September, October, and November have fantastic weather. In fact, September in Panama City Beach still feels like summertime with highs in the mid-80s. October and November start to cool down a little bit but it’s still warm enough to be in your swimsuit at the beach because the highs are still in the 70s and sometimes even warmer.

The raininess of summertime also tapers off so you have more sunshine and cloudy days instead of dealing with the rain showers and the humidity that summertime brings. It’s a really comfortable time of year to spend time outdoors especially if you’re not a fan of muggy, hot days.

Things To Do in Fall in PCB

Fall is, in my opinion, the most ideal time to make a trip to Panama City Beach. Warm weather minus the crowds = beach perfection in my book! Below are some of the unique seasonal events and cool things happening during the fall months in PCB:

The PCB Fishing Rodeo takes place in late September and features competitions in multiple categories and the chance to win prizes
Sand Jam Music Festival happens in late September and features alternative rock
Pirates of the High Seas Fest is a yearly event happening every October that features pirate ships, parades, costumes, and treasure
The biggest lobster festival in the region, Schooner’s Lobster Festival and Tournament is held in mid-October
Panama City Beach Oktoberfest also happens during this time of year and features German food, music and vendors
In nearby Panama City you can check out the Hay Bale Trail downtown, where local businesses decorate hay bales to celebrate Halloween
The Emerald Coast Cruizn Car Show happens twice yearly in March and November
Panama City Beach hosts a Veterans Day Parade every year on November 11th
Beach Home For The Holidays is a fun Christmas event that happens at the end of November and features a giant Christmas tree, outdoor concerts, food trucks, s’mores and of course, Santa Claus

Winter in Panama City Beach: December, January & February

If cooler weather is more your style, consider visiting Panama City Beach in wintertime. The average high in December, January, and February is in the 60s and the low is typically in the 50s. Occasionally it drops down into the 40s at night, which may surprise some people. PCB, as compared to other parts of Florida, has more distinct seasonal changes. Winter in Panama City Beach is cool and comfortable although it’s not the ideal time if you want to wear shorts, flip-flops, and swimsuits.

One positive of winter is that it’s less rainy and it’s considered the off-season, so it’s less crowded. If you are searching for quiet and peaceful desolate beaches where you’re the only one walking then winter time might be the time for you. Keep in mind that winter is typically the cloudiest season in Panama City Beach But also the least humid. Many local restaurants close for the season during winter and reopen again in springtime.

Things To Do in Winter in PCB

If you want to avoid the crowds and enjoy winter in Florida, this season is a great time to enjoy Panama City Beach. Below are some of the unique seasonal events and cool things happening during the winter months in PCB:

The Optimist Christmas parade is a yearly lights parade that happens after the sun sets and features lots of bands, floats and more
Captain Anderson’s hosts Bethlehem Village, a live nativity scene happening in December
Want to track Santa? The North American Aerospace Defense Command at Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City has a “Track Santa Claus” app and kids can also call them for updates on Santa’s location (1-877-446-6723)
One of the last events that occurs in December at the end of the year is the PCB marathon and 5K
The New Year’s Eve ball drop takes place on December 31st at Pier Park where fireworks and thousands of beach balls drop to ring in the New Year
In nearby Port St. Joe and Mexico Beach, where Central and Eastern time zones meet, you can join the Celebrate Twice NYE festivities
As far as recurring events go, January is a quiet month!
In nearby Walton County the 30A Songwriters Festival happens in January
The annual Food trucks of America Food Truck Festival happens in early to mid February at Aaron Bessant Park, on the west side of town
The PCB Mardi Gras and Music Festival returns in 2022 and is one of the most loved events in Bay County Florida

July is the hottest month in Panama City Beach and temperatures typically are in the upper 80s to mid-90s and very humid

July is the rainiest month in Panama City Beach raining on average 18 days out of the month

When is hurricane season?

Hurricane season lasts from June to November of each year. The last hurricane to impact Panama City Beach was Hurricane Michael in 2018, which was a category 4 storm.

Is the water in Panama City Beach cold?

Luckily the Gulf of Mexico waters are pretty warm and from March through November/December water temperatures are in the mid-to-high 60s which is great for swimming. The winter months of January and February are when water is the coldest and not ideal for swimming.

Does it rain every day in PCB?

No it does not rain everyday in Panama City Beach, however if you’re visiting during the rainy season you can expect showers many times throughout a typical week. It doesn’t mean that it will rain all day long but at least a portion of the day there will be rain. If you’re trying to avoid the rain, try to plan your trip during the drier months of October through April.

Does it get cold in PCB?

It depends what your idea of cold is! The coldest months are wintertime so in December, January, and February and the lows can get into the 40s and the highs are inthe 50s and 60s. For many people visiting Panama City Beach, this still feels warm for winter. But if you’re craving more warmth, anytime other than those 3 months it’s much warmer and your typical “Florida weather”.

When is the busiest/most crowded time in PCB?

Panama City Beach is the busiest during peak season which is in the summer months of June, July and August. I would argue that March is equally as busy because of spring break.

When is the least busy time to visit PCB?

Winter time is the least busy time however it’s the coldest time to visit Panama City Beach. If you’re trying to find a less crowded time of year that’s still warm, I would highly recommend fall. You can still enjoy sunshine and warm weather, and the gulf waters are warm too but it’s not peak season so you’re avoiding crowds and higher prices. The off-season in PCB is considered November through February.

Where are the quietest beaches in PCB?

If you’re looking for solitude, the best place to go is either Shell Island (which is only accessible by boat) or easier to get to but still just as beautiful and peaceful is St. Andrews State Park. If you’re staying centrally located in Panama City Beach or on the west side, I would recommend the beaches near Sunnyside or Laguna Beach.

Average temperatures in Panama City vary greatly. Considering humidity, temperatures feel nice most of the year, excluding some hot weeks in the summer, with a fair chance of precipitation about half of the year. The area is somewhat temperate — in the 40th percentile for pleasant weather — compared to tourist destinations worldwide. Weeks with ideal weather are listed above . If you’re looking for the very warmest time to visit Panama City, the hottest months are August, July, and then June. See average monthly temperatures below. The warmest time of year is generally early to mid August where highs are regularly around 89.4°F (31.9°C) with temperatures rarely dropping below 76°F (24.4°C) at night.

Winter (December through February)

Airport : If you flying into Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (ECP) , you’ll be happy to know that the airport is less than 20 miles north of Panama City Beach. How’s that for a leisurely stroll down to relaxation lane?

With plenty of available transportation options, reaching the beachfront strip won’t be a problem. From the airport, you can easily hire a taxi, shuttle, or limo on the spot; or if you’d like more convenience, book a rental vehicle three to six months in advance in order to secure the best deal.

Ride-sharing services Uber and Lyft are also available, located just outside of the airport’s main entrance, in the designated Transportation Network Company pick-up area.

The climate in Panama City Beach is generally pretty humid all-year-round with late spring, summer, and early fall (April, May, and October) being the best time to visit for comfortable beach temperatures and breezy Florida nights.

If visiting Panama City Beach during the winter season—from November to February— you can find savings on lodging and airfare by visiting in this slower season but the ocean temperatures do drop, making it generally too chilly to enjoy the beaches. March and April are in high demand, due to the influx of spring breakers flocking to the area.

In the summer months , highs between 80°F and 90°F (26°C and 32°C) are expected , with lows in the mid-70s (21°C). The winter months are relatively cooler, with highs in the mid-60s (15°C) and lows in the mid-40s (4°C). Rainfall is generally short-lived, so you shouldn’t have to worry about any torrents spoiling your vacation.

Panama City Beach, reputed by many to have some of the best beaches in the United States, hence its, “The World’s Most Beautiful Beaches” nickname.

Being from the Caribbean, I’m rarely impressed by the best beach labels that are often thrown around. However, the finely-crushed sand and emerald green waters, along Panama City Beach 27 miles of sugary-white coastline caught my attention—and certainly lived up to its reputation.

The relaxing, chilled vibe will have you yearning to set up camp along the 27 miles of shoreline to lounge, soak up the sun or take part in water activities such as snorkeling, parasailing, sailing tours, and more.

Whether you’re looking for an action-packed day or a relaxing, secluded getaway, there are hotspots along the coastline that cater to all vibes. My favorite beach areas are:

Escape to Shell Island

Hop on the ferry to Shell Island (Peninsula, really!) to see Florida in one of its most natural forms . If you are a nature enthusiast, you will fall in love with the island’s coastal pine groves, warm sand dunes, and a tranquil freshwater lake.

The island is so remote, that you won’t find a trash bin or a food kiosk on the island (so make sure you eat before you go and take your trash with you back to the mainland!)

Thanks to its quiet, undisturbed nature, the island is home to shorebirds, deer, ghost crabs, green sea turtles, and all kinds of coastal creatures.

It’s also a favorite spot among the locals and tourists who go to the island looking for relaxation, snorkeling activities, and fishing excursions.

Things to Do: A Day in Panama City Beach Parks

If you have something a little more nature-oriented in mind for your visit to Panama City Beach, there’s plenty to do that will satisfy your nature cravings such as:

Russell-Field Pier (the longest fishing pier on the Gulf of Mexico)

Take a walk down the Russell-Field Pier extending over 1,500 feet into the Gulf of Mexico. Apart from the gorgeous pier, the Russell-Fields offers amazing fishing grounds and lovely views.

Access to the pier is $3 for a spectator day pass. If you’re looking to fish, the daily pass is $6 which includes the fishing license.

St. Andrew State Park

The city may be known for its dazzling beachscapes, but it’s also home to some of the best state parks and nature spots. St. Andrew State Park, for example, stretches over 1,000 acres and is home to incredible wildlife, hiking trails, and remote beach access.

It’s one of the best spots for families. You can also participate in activities here such as surfing, snorkeling, fishing, boating, and camping.

Camp Helen State Park

Hike through the Oak Canopy Trail, where you’re likely to see deer, squirrels, bald eagles, and kingfishers.

Conservation Park

Another local gem where you can hike the extensive trails, bike, or stroll through cypress groves and wetlands.

The expansive woodland covering about 2,900 acres offers fantastic outdoor recreational activities including fishing, hiking, bicycling, and looping around the trail systems with boardwalks scattered around the park.

Panama City Beach Florida Conservation Park

If you only have time to choose one of these amazing options, I personally recommend a visit to Conservation Park, especially if you’re fond of the outdoors.

Hiking through the extensive trails surrounded by the colossal cypress trees was one of my most cherished experiences in Panama City Beach.

Panama City Beach has earned its reputation in seafood, oftentimes being referred to as ‘the seafood capital of the south’. As a bonus, most of the restaurants run right along the beach, so you can expect spectacular seaside views while you eat. Two of the best restaurants for fresh fish are Grand Marlin , and Schooners , one of Panama City Beach’s oldest restaurants.

But that’s hardly the extent of PCB’s smorgasbord of cuisines to choose from. A mixture of both casual and upscale restaurants, you’ll find everything from sushi to steakhouses and barbeque joints, and, of course, seafood eateries featuring ice-cold beer and freshly-caught sea fare. From power salads drizzled with homemade dressings, Caribbean jerk sandwiches, or Vietnamese delicacies, it all can be found in Panama City Beach.

Whatever type of meal you’re hungry for, there’s a good possibility that it’s just a short walk down the strip to find it. Many restaurants even offer live bands while you enjoy your meal. The Saltwater Grill , for example, features live music Thursdays and Fridays, all year round.

Why Go To Panama City Beach

Panama City Beach is the quintessential Florida getaway. Pearly white beaches? Check. Subtropical climate? Check. Bottlenose dolphins playing in the surf? Check. Situated in northwest Florida, about 47 miles east of Destin and around 100 miles southwest of Tallahassee , Panama City Beach is perhaps best known as a college spring break destination. But after new laws were introduced banning alcohol on the beach during the month of March, the city quickly saw a decrease in the bacchanalia – great news for families and couples in search of an affordable, warm-weather escape.

Though the alabaster beaches (all 27 miles of them) are what initially draw many to this vacation haven, that's not all Panama City Beach has going for it. Bordered on either side by two state parks ( St. Andrews and Camp Helen) and home to one of the largest sport fishing fleets in the world, not to mention one of the world's highest concentration of bottlenose dolphins, PCB is a nature and wildlife lover's paradise.

The best time to visit Panama City Beach is from May through October. Though the area boasts an average of 320 days of sunshine per year, late spring, summer and early fall offer some of the warmest air and water temperatures. Plus, by avoiding a visit in March or April, you'll dodge the deluge of college students who descend on the area's ivory sands every year for spring break. You'll save on lodging prices during the area's low season (November to February), but it'll likely be too chilly to enjoy the ocean.

Alcohol is allowed at the beach As long as it's not in a glass container and it's not March. Alcohol is not permitted at the beach during the month of March.

You'll need a fishing license Unless you're fishing from a licensed pier or a charter boat operated by a licensed captain, you must have this documentation. You can purchase out-of-state licenses at any local Wal-Mart.

Heed the double red flag This beach signal means the water is dangerous and closed to the public. If you ignore the warning, you could be arrested.

Avoid spring break College crowds descend on the area's white sand beaches every March. If you still want to plan a spring trip, dodge the rowdy coeds and spiked hotel rates by visiting in late March or early April.

Consider a vacation rental If you're traveling with a big group, renting a house or apartment could be less expensive than booking several hotel rooms. Plus, many are located right on the beach.

What to Eat

It should come as no surprise that seafood is the main ingredient many PCB menus are built around. Whether it's chargrilled grouper, Apalachicola oysters or Gulf shrimp stuffed with blue crab, you'll have your pick of delicious sea creatures to choose from. And you don't even have to go to a restaurant to enjoy the city's bounty: some of the best eateries are actually seafood markets that steam and season their freshest catches right in front of you. Anderson Seafood Market and Buddy's Seafood Market both come recommended by recent visitors.

If you're looking for a more formal environment, Saltwater Grill (which boasts a 25,000-gallon tropical saltwater aquarium inside the restaurant) and Capt. Anderson's Restaurant & Waterfront Market both received high marks from recent diners. Firefly is another local and traveler favorite thanks to its unique setting: the restaurant is arranged around a giant lit-up oak tree.

You'll also find plenty of casual beachfront eateries (try Schnoors or Sharky's ). Though they cater mainly to tourists, it's hard to deny their prime locations, especially if you want to catch a classic Panama City Beach sunset.

I love this town on Florida’s Emerald Coast! It’s hard not to fall in love after seeing its white-sand beaches and clear waters. I thought I’d create a Panama City travel guide to help others planning to visit this beautiful beach town. In this post, I’ll cover everything you need to visit Panama City, FL, including the best time to visit, things to do, where to stay, and the best restaurants in the area. I also think you’ll find this post helpful if you’re trying to decide between PCB and Destin for your next vacay!

Panama City, FL Travel Guide

Best time to visit panama city, fl.

The key to visiting the panhandle is to go when school is in session, so you’ll experience the best weather without a huge crowd. This makes mid-May and late-August through mid-September the best times to visit.

The coldest month is January, with average highs of 63°F. If you’re looking for a casual winter travel destination, Panama City is a great choice. Of course, you won’t be spending time in the ocean during wintertime. If you want to be able to get in the ocean, book a late spring or late summer trip! Winter is better for activities like walking along the beach, reading in a beach chair, and fishing.

Things to do in Panama City, FL

Obviously, there’s the beach, which is probably more than enough for the beach bums! I visited in the winter and realized that there are tons of great things to do in the PCB area in addition to the beach. There are parks all over! I loved St. Andrews State Park and Camp Helen State Park (PCB is nestled right between the two). There are also plenty of places to shop – Pier Park being the main hub with tons of shops, restaurants, and beach access right across the street.

St. Andrews State Park

St. Andrews State Park is located just minutes away from PCB. There’s an $8 entry fee per vehicle. Within the park, there’s a mile-and-a-half of beaches for fishing and swimming. You can also hike, bike, camp, picnic, and more within the park. If you’re an outdoorsy person, you definitely want dedicate a day to this park while you’re in PCB! As I mentioned before, Pier Park is the main hub for shopping. It’s an outdoor mall with tons of shops (everything from department stores like Target to boutiques like Francesca’s), restaurants, and beach access right across the street. There’s also a huge ferris wheel called the SkyWheel. You could easily entertain yourself (or your family) for hours here. There’s plenty of parking too, which is always nice!

Camp Helen State Park

Whereas St. Andrews State Park is east of PCB, Camp Helen State Park is west of the city. This park is a super cool spot with a lot of history – more on that here . Remnants from an old pier (pictured below) still stand. There’s a beautiful marsh behind the old pier and walking trails throughout the park.

FYI – You do have to hike about 7/10 of a mile to get to the beach from the parking area. It’s not bad, but it’s not something I’d want to do with a ton of beach gear either because you’re walking through sand most of the way. Shell Island

Shell Island is technically in St. Andrews State Park, but the main way to access this area is via shuttle. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to make it to Shell Island since I visited in late December and the shuttle doesn’t run in the winter. However, this seems to be a must-see spot based on the reviews!

According to the Shell Island website, “The official Shell Island Shuttle runs every 30 minutes from 9 to 5 seven days a week in summer.” You can rent a boat, go on a dolphin tour, snorkel, or relax on the beach. If you have littles that enjoy shell hunting (or you like to collect them yourself), this would be a great place to add to your itinerary!

Russell-Fields City Pier

Across the street from Pier Park, you’ll find the Russell-Fields City Pier. The pier extends out 1,500ft into the Gulf of Mexico and offers incredible views of the area. I highly recommend watching a sunset from here! There’s a $3 fee per person to walk on the pier. You can also fish off this pier with a license.

Day Trip to Destin, FL

Destin is just an hour away from PCB and 100% worth a visit. In comparison to PCB, I’d say that Destin is a bit more upscale. Something to note if you’re trying to decide between the two: there are a lot more options in terms of hotels/condos in PCB, especially if you want something that’s right on the ocean. PCB is also a bit less crowded than Destin and the more affordable destination of the two, but you really can’t go wrong either way.

If you do end up in Destin, make sure to grab a bite to eat at The Back Porch. It’s a beachfront restaurant and their seafood is AMAZING. You have to try the crab bites appetizer!! I also recommend visiting Henderson State Park in Destin, FL. The park features the cleanest white sugar sand beaches and breathtakingly clear waters. This area definitely had the prettiest beaches I saw throughout my entire trip (pictured above). The entry fee is $6 for a vehicle with 2-8 passengers ($4 for a single occupant).

Seafood from The Back Porch in Destin, FL

The Back Porch – There’s another location in Destin, which I mentioned. Seriously, make sure you hit one location or the other at some point (or both if you’re like me hahah). Their slaw is to-die-for and every seafood dish I tried was amazing.

New York Pizza & Grill – There are two locations in PCB: one on Panama City Beach Parkway and another in Pier Park, which will almost definitely be more crowded at any given time due to the location. They don’t have quite as many options as Nick’s when it comes to specialty pizza, but it’s another great option nonetheless.

Options for everyone

Runaway Island – Sooo much amazing food to choose from here! They have a lot of seafood options but serve both burgers and chicken/steak dishes as well. The best part: it’s beachfront so you can enjoy your meal while taking in gorgeous ocean views!
The Wicked Wheel – Very limited options in terms of seafood but TONS of choices when it comes to chicken and burgers. Whether you’re in the mood to build your own burger or munch on some hand battered chicken tenders, this place has you covered.
Dee’s Hangout – Delicious food and huge portions. They serve everything from filet mignon to tacos. Their hush puppies are the bomb!! Try those or the Hang Bang Shrimp for an appetizer.

Family-owned for three generations, Funland reigns as the oldest arcade in northwest Florida. Locals have been lovingly supporting this arcade for over 65 years.

The arcade may be vintage, but that just applies to the games! Instead of fussing over tickets and tokens, you’ll dispense and recharge credits on your own RFID card.

Some of the vintage games will need to play with quarters or tokens though. You can get some at a special station in the arcade, don’t worry.

To play like a winner, you need to eat like a winner. Funland Vintage Arcade also serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner! You can also indulge in ice cream delights at the Dairy Bar.

Go Scuba Diving

Of the wrecks, you’ll want to see the 465′ Empire Mica. Once a British ocean tanker, this ship was torpedoed and sunk in World War II!

The Yard is a full milkshake bar found in Pier Park. A small chain founded in 2017 in Gulf Shores, Alabama, the Yard has now expanded with locations in Alabama, Texas, Florida, and Massachusetts.

Famous for their skyscraper milkshakes, the Yard was a business featured on ABC’s hit show, Shark Tank ! They eventually made a deal with Mark Cuban, and he is still instrumental in their growth today!

Each of the Yard’s towering creations is served in a huge glass mason jar. Depending on the milkshake, the toppings are piled over the top of the jar! When you’re done, you can take your jar home!

As an example, the classic birthday cake milkshake starts with the Yard’s Birthday Batter ice cream. The top of the mason jar is dipped in vanilla icing and then rainbow sprinkles. The milkshake is topped past the jar’s rim with a mountain of whipped cream and then a full-sized cupcake sits on top.

Even after you’ve gone home, you can order from the Yard online long after your vacation is done. You can’t get a milkshake delivered, but you can pick out decorative sprinkles and edible cookie dough in a variety of flavors!

Ripley’s Believe It or Not! is a classic attraction that the whole family will love! The building in Panama City is shaped like a giant, old-fashioned cruise ship and sticks out with its bright colors.

Inside, you will find all sorts of oddities to amaze you. There are galleries and interactive exhibits that will leave you wondering.

There are a much of fun things to do here. Get lost in the Marvelous Mirror Maze, ride the crazy 7D Moving Theater, or use your skills to beat the Impossible Laser Race.

This time of year is when you’ll see Panama City Beach at its craziest! Spring Break turns this place into one of the most popular and crowded destination spots in the South! In the Grand Lagoon, you can see a massive party centered around Club La Vela , the largest club in the entire USA. These are no average parties either, restaurants bring out their most unique cocktails for the Spring Breakers to ensure a crazy experience. However, it’s only for a part of the whole season as Spring Break usually only lasts around the month of March. The weather is warm and calm and the Florida humidity is also low, which is great for people who are planning to travel to PCB from areas not as South as us and are concerned about being comfortable. It’s also worth it to consider getting a rental early if you’re planning to stay. Reservations for Spring Break start to have a back log around New Years, and its difficult to find good places after that. This is especially the case for hotels along the beach. For parents looking to vacation with their kids over Spring Break from school, its generally not recommended as the parties are heavily oriented towards those over the age of 21. If you decide to anyway, its recommended to pay slightly higher rates for somewhere near the Western end of PCB, as most of the major events occur near the East in the Grand Lagoon area.

Summer in Panama City Beach

The Summers here are also very busy. However, the type of people who travel down South during the months of June, July, and August are vastly different than the Spring Breakers. You should be able to find rentals with decent rates despite the somewhat crowded time of visit. If you’re not sure of where to stay, we also have an article to help you in learning the best places to stay in PCB ! Its also a great idea to visit with your kids during their break from school! There are many fun and family oriented activities the make this a great destination spot, such as the Freedom Rocks 4th of July celebration and things like the Sea Dragon Pirate Cruise . Water-based activities here are also the best in the USA, with June presenting a perfect opportunity for a pontoon rental, visit Shell Island , or just enjoy the Emerald Coast. Humidity is very high in the month of June, as well as July. The humidity is so high that near the end of the season around July and August, middle of the day intense rains are fairly common. This also occurs throughout the rest of Florida. They pass quickly though, and its recommended you take the break to go dine at one of the local restaurants instead of just heading back for the day, since it will usually be clear by the time you finish your meal! Fall is when the rental rates start to drop back down! This is the perfect season to visit for those looking for average weather that’s not too hot and with low humidity. For those who are used to colder weather, the water will seem very comfortable despite being 10 degrees lower than in the previous months. If you want to keep your kids out of school a little bit longer, there are also tons of fun family events! In just the month of October, we have both the Pirates of the High Seas Festival and the Bloody Mary and Music Festival , some of the most well known occasions in the South! It also tends to not be a popular time of year due to everyone getting the urge to travel out of them during the warmer months, so don’t expect many crowds outside of the major events! Restaurants don’t shut down here during the off-seasons like other places in Florida, so you’ll be able to have all the great food that PCB is known for! If you haven’t been to any of the seafood restaurants here yet, you’re missing out! Beaches will also be more open, especially at Shell Island, so you can have a destination for your own private getaway vacation!

Winter in Panama City Beach

Temperatures: High-65° F/18° C Low-48° F/9° C Average Water-63° F/17° C

It may be tempting to travel with the kids on vacation during their winter break from school to more sunny spots, and we can help with that! The beaches will be almost completely open, as the water is incredibly brisk to say the least. The air can be a bit chilly too, going down to an average of 48 degrees at some times, usually in the month of February. Luckily the humidity is also lower in the South during Winter! Despite this, it is still one of the warmest paces in all of the USA during this season. Since PCB has made a huge effort to preserve both natural and artificial reefs, fishing can be done year round, so its worth considering spending a day out on the water! Rates on fishing charters are relatively low due to how many there are to choose from ! Restaurants still serve fresh catch despite the chilly weather! It could also be one of the best times to travel if you’re into scuba diving, since its cool enough to back off the algae buildup that often may occur.

How’d you like a milkshake with a whole cupcake sticking out of the top or an entire waffle peeking out of a mound of whipped cream? At The Yard Milkshake Bar , you will not believe your eyes as you are dazzled with some of the craziest treats. They’re not just for kids! Whether you choose the Cookie Monster (that was my choice), the Cereal Killer or any of the other decadent desserts, I dare you to eat the whole thing.

Tip: We went at around 12:30 p.m. on a Sunday, and the line was about a half-hour long (with a 20 minute wait after ordering). But, by the time we left the place at around 2 p.m., there was no line at all.

2. Get an Epic View from the SkyWheel Ferris Wheel

Get ready for your breath to be taken away with the spectacular view of Panama City Beach on board the 53-meter SkyWheel ! The gondola ride offers a relaxing experience and is perfect for taking that Instagram-worthy photo (or video!).

It is a beautiful barrier island punctuated with magnificent sand dunes and coastal sage scrub. The beach is flourishing with creatures, including shorebirds, turtles and deer. While there, I found lots of shells (of course), plenty of secluded spots to relax and even a starfish — the perfect way to spend a lazy day.

Our transportation to the island was provided by Lagoon Pontoon . We stocked it with goodies for lunch, plenty of drinks (a cooler filled with Fresca!) and the beach essentials. They provided the coolest ride with all the safety accouterments onboard and two slides that attached to the back.

4. Believe It or Not at Ripley’s

Ripley’s Believe It or Not! is the go-to place in Panama City Beach for those who want to explore the strange and unbelievable. Their ‘Odditorium’ houses bizarre exhibits from around the globe that people of all ages will enjoy.

Their 7D Moving Theater provides an immersive experience with its 3D movies and motion seats. The Marvelous Mirror Maze will challenge your eyes with its maze of infinity mirrors, with a treasure waiting at the end. If you’re up to the challenge, the Impossible Laser Race will test your skills in navigating your way through laser beams like in spy movies.

5. Get a Finn’s Original Fish Taco

It’s always taco time at Finn’s Island Style Grub , home of Finn’s original fish tacos. The ahi taco and their signature fish taco are some of the best, but there are plenty of others to choose from at this food-truck-style eatery. While you’re waiting for your order, pop into their barista bar next door and order a Black Salt Mocha. You won’t be disappointed!

6. Eat Seafood (Pineapple Willy’s)

What better way to enjoy your beach trip than indulge yourself with fresh seafood, and Pineapple Willy’s restaurant won’t disappoint! Boasting a wide variety of seafood dishes, from fried oysters to grilled shrimp to fileted Mahi-Mahi, your mouth and tummy will keep coming for more.

And to add to your overall experience, you can also enjoy the live music performances while having a drink at Willy’s Pier Bar. All in all, this is something that you definitely should try!

7. Take a Dolphin Sunset Cruise

Dolphins and sunsets — it doesn’t get much better than that. Island Time Sailing will take you on a 2-hour cruise that swishes you through Grand Lagoon and onto the Gulf of Mexico in search for Flipper and his friends — we saw plenty dolphins on our cruise! Grab a drink and a snack, then end the evening with a beautiful sunset across the emerald waters.

8. See a Show at Todd Herendeen Theatre

Looking for a night of classic rock & country music? Then don’t miss the ‘Tribute to the Legends of Music’ performances of National Recording Artist Todd Herendeen and his band at the Todd Herendeen Theatre , performed several nights a week.

You can walk in at any time to enjoy the show, and you can also bring your own beer or wine! Dinners are only available through reservations, so make sure to book in advance if in case you’re planning to have your dinner here as well.

9. Have a Beach Bonfire

Cornhole, s’mores and a cooler filled with adult beverages, plus a bonfire on the Panama City Beach oceanfront— that’s what you are going to get with Endless Beach Rentals . The company swoops in and sets up EVERYTHING for you (from chairs to hammocks to a stocked cooler), then they come and clean everything up. No fuss, no muss. Your only job is to show up and have fun!

10. Enjoy at Swampy Jack’s Wongo Adventure

Get ready to join Swampy Jack’s Wongo Adventure on his adventures over the world in this premier theme park destination! The theme park features different rides like the Swamp Ape, Eye of the Kraken, and much more. Each ride gives its own one-of-a-kind enjoyable experience, with some paying homage to classic rides that people enjoyed in Panama City Beach (with their own added twist!).

Feeling a bit more competitive? You can also try the Marrakesh Road Rally and race against other people around the track in different race modes. And did I mention that you can have a Mario Kart-like experience in their Power-Up race mode?

11. Get Donuts at the Iconic Thomas’ Donuts & Snack Shop

Forget the breakfast omelettes and pancakes, because at the family-owned Thomas’ Donuts & Snack Shack it’s all about the fluffy dunkers. It is a haven for donut lovers! They have everything from the classic glazed to key lime filled. I can vouch for the red velvet cake. And the chocolate sprinkle. And the cinnamon twist. Don’t judge.

They also serve a handful of other breakfast items, like muffins, biscuits and breakfast sandwiches.

FYI: There is almost always a line in the morning, so get there really early or plan on waiting. We arrived at 10: a.m. on the weekend, and the queue was about 20 people deep.

12. Have an Animal Adventure at ZooWorld Panama City Beach

Get up close and personal with the wildlife at ZooWorld Zoological and Botanical Conservatory . Home to hundreds of exotic animals, from kangaroos to lions to sloths and so much more, this park will take you on an adventure trip around the world!

You also get to experience petting and feeding animals like lemurs and baby bearded dragons, not to mention the free kisses that you will get from the giraffes :) This is one experience you can’t miss!

13. Walk Russell-Fields City Pier

The Russell-Fields City Pier sits at the end of Pier Park and stretches 1,500 feet out into the Gulf of Mexico. You can pay a small fee ($3) to be able to take the short stroll to the end. It is worth it!

You can also get a nice view of the pier (and some great fish tacos) by sitting on the patio of Hook’d Pier Bar & Grill.

14. Go Sightseeing at Sea Dragon Pirate Cruise

Board the Sea Dragon on a voyage with Capt. “Fearless” Phil and his friendly pirate crew! Though the activities on board are more geared towards kids, adults will enjoy the whole sightseeing tour from start to finish. If you are lucky, you will get to see dolphins as well!

For a more scenic experience, you can book the sunset cruise (which costs a few extra dollars). Yummy snacks like hotdogs & candies and drinks for both kids and adults are available on the ship.

15. Do a Tasting at Panama City Beach Winery

Panama City Beach Winery specializes in fruit wines and is the only registered citrus winery in the United States. Their wines are made with 100 percent real fruit and no added sugar to the finish. Their blackberry wine literally has four pounds of blackberries in every bottle!

Stop by for a free tasting and take a bottle (or two) back to the beach with you. Don’t miss trying the Key Lime wine — it was my favorite and has won a number of awards!

16. Take a Panama City Beach Helicopter Tour

If there is one thing that makes Panama City Beach worth returning to, it’s the helicopter tours. The views on the ground and the sea are already spectacular, but seeing Panama City Beach up in the air provides a different perspective of its beauty and splendor.

If you haven’t tried riding a helicopter before, now is your chance to do so! You can also try a wildlife helicopter tour if you want something a little different. You’ll be able to see turtles, stingrays, and even sharks! They’ll get you close enough to see the magnificent creatures while also keeping enough distance as not to disturb them.

Panhandle Helicopters has a variety of tours for you to choose from!

17. Have Fun at Pier Park

Pier Park is the place to shop the beachy boutiques, get fruity drinks (served in a pineapple!) and indulge in beachfront restaurants. It has the whole package. There are more than 120 retail stores where you can buy clothes, shoes, accessories and even furniture. Plus, if you are a fan of Ferris wheels, you can get a whole new perspective of Florida’s Panama City Beach on the Skywheel that soars 200 feet above Pier Park. You can see for miles!

If you want to explore the Pier Park at a leisurely pace, then I suggest you go early in the morning before it gets too busy and hot.

18. Play at Rock’it Lanes

Looking for some fun indoor activities for kids (or kids at heart)? Housing a bowling alley, a mega arcade, a roller skating rink, and a bar & grille, Rock’it Lanes will surely keep you entertained for hours and hours on end!

Aside from regular bowling, they host bowling tourneys (Monday Night Mania & Thirsty Thursday) where you can win bar tabs. Their mega arcade has the latest games in the market and redeemable prizes that include bicycles to gaming consoles (yes, gaming consoles!). Last but not least, you can skate all day at their roller skating rink for only a couple of dollars.

19. Do Brunch

Brunch is a popular thing to do almost anywhere in the States, but especially in Panama City Beach. People love some good grub before hitting the beach, and the city has plenty of options. Andy’s Flour Power has all the brunch favorites made with the freshest ingredients, but they are known for their French toast—and it’s to die for! If you are looking for a killer eggs Benedict, then head over to Liza’s Kitchen who puts it on their homemade double-proofed focaccia bread.

20. Break Free at Escape Manor

Invite your family or friends and unleash your inner Sherlock at this escape room-type game at Escape Manor ! Their Panama City Beach site has three different missions to choose from, each with its unique story and mystery. Is your team capable of escaping before the timer runs out?

Whether you are a fan of mysteries or you just want to have a unique experience with your loved ones, Escape Manor will keep you coming back for more!

21. Do a Double-Take of the Upside Down Building

WonderWorks is an amusement park that combines education and entertainment. Inside you can feel the power of a 71 mph hurricane and make life-sized bubbles. But, you don’t even need to go inside to get a little taste of the fun. The exterior is built like an upside down building, and it’s worth at least a drive-by. You can kill two birds with one stone because right across the street is a ginormous ship replica that is home to Ripley’s Believe it or Not.

22. Swim at Panama City Beach

Take a splash in the different beaches around Panama Beach City. Some popular ones to go to are Camp Helen State Park, St. Andrews State Park (perfect for kids!), and Laguna Beach. Most of the beaches in the area are also open for different activities like kayaking and snorkeling.

Aside from the beaches, Panama City Beach’s resorts, hotels, and condos have some of the best pools in the state. Choose from huge pools with waterslides, a lazy river, and a poolside grill/bar to peaceful, boutique pools where the only sound is the air rustling the palm trees.

23. Explore the Pretty Parks

St. Andrews State Park is surrounded by water — the Gulf on one side and the bay on the other. You can either enjoy a relaxing sunbathe on the beach, explore the dunes or walk one of the two nature trails. The 180-acre Camp Helen State Park is also bordered by the gulf, in addition to Lake Powell. It is one of the largest coastal dune lakes in Florida with plenty of activities. Have fun searching for wildlife, swimming, fishing and strolling around the refurbished textile mill buildings. If hiking is your main goal for the day, then the 24 miles of unpaved trails at Conservation Park is a must (bikers can also enjoy the 2900-acre park!).

24. Take a Dip at Pitt and Sylvan Springs

The crystal clear waters of Pitt and Sylvan Springs is enough invitation to get in and take a swim. Surrounded by trees and other vegetation, with birds flying about every now and then, you’ll see why it draws in visitors all year round.

Aside from swimming, you can also rent a canoe and explore around the spring. You and your loved ones can also enjoy a picnic at designated areas while enjoying the ambiance of nature.

25. Get Wet at the Shipwreck Island Waterpark

If you want a break from the beautiful beaches, awaken your inner child at the Shipwreck Island Waterpark. Boasting amazing waterslides, wave pools, and lazy rivers, the tropical water park is one of the most fun attractions in Panama City Beach. Their 500,000-gallon Ocean Motion Wave pool creates three foot waves to splash around in or you can opt to meander down the lazy river. If you are more of a thrill-seeker, don’t miss the Pirate’s Plunge and Tree Top Drop waterslides.

If you are fond of dolphins, definitely go ahead and swim with them on Water Planet in Panama City Beach. They offer a range of exciting and educational swim-with-the-dolphin tours for the whole family. This includes the chance to explore Shell Island, snorkel on shipwrecks, and collect shells.

They offer 1 day, 3-day, or 1-week programs which blend the natural beauty of a dolphin encounter that some people call the most moving encounter they ever had. Children with special needs also benefit from their dolphin therapeutic program.

Take a spin on the fastest, tallest and steepest go-kart track in Panama City Beach, Race City . They have tracks for every level of speedster, from a lil’ speedy to a pro. This Northern California girl is especially fond of the Golden Gate track, a 40 foot replica of the breathtaking bridge whose original is in my neck of the woods.

Though Mexico Beach might have a small-town feel to it, there are many fascinating places to go to and engaging activities to do on your day trip. Shelling, watching the dolphins frolic at sunset, and taking a refreshing swim are just some of the popular activities for visitors and locals.

Mexico Beach is also a haven for watersports of all types, which include boating, sailing, and kayaking, to name a few. Locally-owned businesses and antiques also offer a variety of souvenirs.

29. Play Putt Putt Golf at Coconut Creek

Panama City Beach Florida is more than pristine white sand beaches (though that is enough to bring you there, isn’t it?), there are fun attractions for family members of every age (not just the kids). And who doesn’t love a fierce game of putt putt golf? At Coconut Creek you will get the African safari vibe with the two 18-hole courses. But, that’s not all! You can also challenge your navigational skills with their Gran Maze, a huge human labyrinth that is the size of a football field!

Gator Country Alligator Park (also known as Airboat Adventures) will give you a heart-pounding experience from start to finish. You’ll feel the rush of adrenaline as you coast the rivers and marshlands of West Bay Creek on an airboat tour. You will also get a chance to pet and feed cute baby alligators, as well as seeing adult alligators and other animals like bald eagles and herons.

Getting Around: Renting a car in Panama City Beach is the best to really experience the island and RentalCars.com has some great deals. If you are not renting a car, there are a few other options. It is possible to get around by taxi, but that can get quite expensive (especially if you want to check all the things to do in Panama City Beach off this bucket list). If you have more time, another choice would be the Bay Town Trolly which runs between the beaches for $1.50 per trip (or $4.00 for a day pass).

Families flock here from the inland areas of Florida and nearby states to lounge on the beaches and enjoy the numerous attractions and activities found here.

Since this is largely a summer resort area, most of the attractions are outdoors or water-related, and many of them are only open seasonally. Winter in Panama City Beach is quiet but has a more relaxed feel.

Panama City's beautiful beach is the centerpiece of the city and loved by locals and tourists of all ages, who come here to swim, play, relax, socialize, and soak up the sun.

Twenty-seven miles of dazzling white sand stretches along this section of the Gulf of Mexico at Panama City Beach, and the shallow waters are perfect for younger kids, inviting beyond belief in the summer heat.

If you are looking for a break from the beach, Pier Park is a convenient and pleasant distraction. It's also the best place to visit on a cold or rainy day.

Pier Park is a lively place and a perfect place to shop and go for lunch or dinner. Most restaurants feature outdoor patios where you can catch the sea breeze.

Shopping options range from beach-themed apparel shops to high-end chain and department stores. Also on-site is the Pier Park Amusements , which features a variety of things to do, including rides and an IMAX theater.

One of the newer attractions in Panama City Beach is the SkyWheel, a giant 170-foot-high Ferris wheel. Amazing views are enjoyed from any one of the 30 gondolas, all fully air-conditioned. Each gondola seats six people, except for the VIP glass-floored one, which seats only four.

In addition to the SkyWheel, the entertainment complex also offers a ropes course called the SkyTrail that loops you around a series of obstacles high in the air. Don't worry, you'll be firmly secured to a safety line at all times.

If you've ever wanted to try ziplining, the SkyRail is worth a try. This short zipline will give you a taste of what larger courses may be like and whether you'd like to give them a try as you travel around.

A fun mini-golf, also known as Putt-Putt in the southern United States, is also available, and its unique and challenging holes are guaranteed to bring a smile to you and your kids' faces.

Russell-Fields Pier , just across the street from Pier Park, juts out 1,500 feet into the sea. This pier, one of the longest along the entire Gulf of Mexico, is an excellent place to wander out to soak up amazing views up and down the coast. It's also a popular place to visit to catch the sunset.

Look over the side of the pier as you walk out to the end. There's a good chance that you'll see a passing dolphin or perhaps a manta ray skimming along the bottom. The pier attracts all kinds of birdlife, from pelicans to gulls, right through to herons. These patient avian observers stand at the ready to help out the fishermen in exchange for a piece of bait.

If you are into fishing , the pier is one of the best spots in Panama City to try your luck. Some of the common catches are pompano, mullet, grouper, cobia, and many others, depending on the season. A small admission fee is charged to access the pier and is good for the day. A higher fee is charged to fish.

The pier is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

If you'd like to visit another pier that is a bit more low-key, consider heading to M.B. Miller County Pier. It's about 15 minutes north along Highway 30, just past the SpringHill Suites Panama City Beach Beachfront hotel.

Gulf World Marine Park is one of Panama City Beach's top fun family attractions. The park has all kinds of sea life and free daily shows featuring dolphins, sea lions, and a variety of birds. Park residents include alligators, penguins, sharks, and many other exciting critters.

The park also offers exclusive hands-on and interactive experiences, including a 20,000-gallon stingray pool where visitors can not only pet the smooth, graceful fish but actually get to wade in the pool and snorkel beside them.

Interactive programs include the ever-popular swimming with the dolphins and the opportunity to get up close with adorable harbor seals or participate in a sea lion training session. If you've ever wanted to get a wet, sloppy kiss from a dolphin, this is the place to do it.

The park is open seasonally and closed between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

St. Andrews State Park is a diverse area with a little of everything when it comes to beach activities along the Gulf of Mexico. Featuring shallow, protected areas for a relaxing swim or snorkel , and sections with larger waves for playing in, St. Andrews is the perfect place for anyone looking to enjoy the beach and ocean.

One of the most popular things to do in this park is exploring Shell Island , a 700-acre barrier island with a glorious stretch of beach. The Shell Island Shuttle runs every half hour during the summer, picking up and dropping off passengers. You can also rent a pontoon boat to get to Shell Island, a great option for families who want to explore the island at their own pace and do some snorkeling.

St. Andrews State Park is a popular place to camp, with 60 sites, all with water and electricity. Maximum RV size is 45 feet. The state is in the midst of a significant upgrade to the campground facilities. This project is expected to be finished at some point in 2022.

To add a little fun and excitement to your holiday, boat tours are a great way to see some marine life, access snorkeling sites, or do some sailing. Excursions range from dolphin sightseeing tours to Sea-Doo, canoe, kayak, and stand up paddleboard rentals.

Fishing charters are offered by several companies, and catamaran sailing trips are also popular, particularly sunset sails. For families, the Sea Dragon Pirate Cruise is a kid's themed pirate ship with two-hour sailings and on-board activities for children. Again, many of these are season specific and are not offered in the low season, and reservations are highly recommended.

A particularly good boat excursion is the Sunset Catamaran Sail , popular with families but also an incredibly romantic outing for couples. The sail departs late in the afternoon on a Privateer catamaran, and guests can enjoy a complimentary beverage while enjoying the ambiance of island music and keeping an eye out for dolphins. As the sun goes down, passengers get an unparalleled view of the colors as it dips beneath the horizon over the Gulf.

The newly renovated Ripley's Believe It or Not! is a great rainy day outing or a break from the sun, and one of the more quirky things to do in Panama City Beach.

This facility, designed in the shape of a ship, has four main attractions: the Odditorium , with traditional Ripley's oddities; the 7D Moving Theatre , which is more of a ride than just a movie-watching experience; the Impossible LaseRace , with a laser obstacle course; and the Marvelous Mirror Maze , where lights and creatively placed mirrors make finding your way out more than just a minor challenge.

Ticket prices vary depending on what attractions you want to participate in, but combo tickets for all four attractions are available.

On a hot summer day, this water park is a welcome treat, with a lazy river, raging river, and wave pool, as well as all kinds of water-based rides and slides. One of the highlights of a visit here is the short zipline that whizzes you above a pool before unceremoniously dropping you when you least expect it.

An outing to Coconut Creek Family Fun Park is a great off-the-beach option for families visiting with children. The park has mini-golf, with two 18-hole courses, and a large outdoor maze.

The mini-golf courses are two of the best in town, with extensive water features and enormous African animal statues. If you've never had the experience of being in a giant maze, the outdoor version here will more than fulfill the need. Viewing platforms over the maze let observers watch the action from above.

In the same vicinity are Ripley's Believe It Or Not! , in the design of a ship, and WonderWorks , with their signature upside down building.

Other nearby family attractions include Race City, a carnival-style amusement park with ticketed rides, including a Ferris wheel, bumper boats, and kiddie rides. Cobra Adventure Park is a smaller family park, which offers mini-golf and a roller coaster for younger children, and both parks feature go-karts, thrill rides, and video game arcades.

Water Planet offers full-day swim-with-the-dolphin programs, which include an educational aspect, a boat tour, and a side trip to Shell Island .

Unlike Gulf World Marine Park , participants swim with the dolphins in their natural ocean habitat rather than in enclosures. Staff members, who include interns, take time to educate guests on the dolphins and safety precautions before getting in the water.

Panama City Beach (PCB) Conservation Park

With just under 3,000 acres of uplands and wetlands, PCB Conservation Park offers a range of outdoor recreational opportunities, from hiking and biking to bird-watching and wildlife spotting.

The park has a dozen well-maintained trails, which range from approximately a half mile to 12 miles in length, a total of 24 miles in all. Several of these have sections of boardwalk, which are especially convenient for strollers and wheelchairs, and most of the dirt paths are reasonably level, making them suitable for anyone.

Towering pine trees dominate some trails, providing shade on hot days, and there are shaded picnic areas as well as restrooms for visitor use. Another great advantage of this park is that there is no admission fee, and guided Audubon walks are available, as well as regular naturalist programs.

Mid-December to April is the best time for hikes, beaches and festivals

In the drier of Panama’s two seasons, the temperature doesn’t vary drastically from month to month, and downpours are both less frequent and less temperamental.

Also known as “summer” ( verano ), the dry season runs from mid-December through April. These months coincide with increased demand and higher prices as snowbirds jet in en masse for blue skies, warmer weather and epic adventures across the country.

Panama City is a fantastic base from which to explore the country’s landscapes, countless aquamarine beaches and archipelagos. (Panama has more than 1000 camera-ready islands.)

Within the capital itself, there’s much to see and do when the rains stay away. Those with a penchant for the past will be thrilled to discover ruins, recovered treasure and well-preserved buildings on a stroll through the historic district of Casco Viejo .

Behold this modern city’s glass and concrete skyline from a sleek rooftop bar – of which there are many – or wave at ships passing through the world-renowned Panama Canal . The tropical climate and shower-free days lend themselves perfectly to sightseeing, alfresco dining, bayfront walks, bike rides and hikes.

Panama City is the only world capital with a tropical rainforest within its city limits. Head to the 573-acre Parque Natural Metropolitano to see toucans and motmots soaring majestically above, or meet monkeys and iguanas scurrying around the trees.

May to mid-December is excellent for whale watching, surfing and national celebrations

Though summer-style weather lasts all year long in Panama, the wet season between May and mid-December is referred to as “winter” or “green season.” Since it gets awfully humid during this period, it’s the cheapest time to visit.

Locals assert that Panama has two varying climates on each coast. The Caribbean coast experiences more showers, while the Pacific coast – where Panama City is situated – has fewer.

The upside to Panama City’s wet season is its predictability, as rains begin gradually and intensify later in the season. Throughout these wetter months, as the sun looms and tropical flowers bloom, it’s still possible to enjoy outdoor pursuits with a bit of planning and organization.

While days typically start out sunny, you’ll need an umbrella for sideways showers between 2pm and 5pm. Keep in mind that it seldom rains all day, and storms often leave as fast as they come. (Also note that taxi fares surge dramatically during these torrential outbursts.) Hikes at Parque Natural Metropolitano or Cerro Ancon might also be more challenging.

In the evenings, you can stargaze and listen to the soothing hum of the Bay of Panama from Cinta Costera, the scenic waterfront boardwalk, or from an inviting rooftop restaurant. Nights, though cooler than during the dry season, remain lovely and pleasant.

Overall, the wet season is the best time to snag deals and avoid large crowds.

Enjoy jazz music in January

Check out a who’s-who of the international jazz music scene during the Panama Jazz Festival , a cultural event that’s been sweetly serenading the capital for two decades. Though there are many dolphin tours available in this area, one of the most popular is a tour by Coastal Wildlife Adventures . These tours are especially wonderful because they offer both dolphin cruises and snorkeling tours. During one tour, you’ll be taken out to Shell Island, where you’ll spend two hours looking for dolphins and other wildlife.

But you can also add on an additional hour to go snorkeling. Shell Island is one of the best snorkeling spots in Panama City Beach and a can’t-miss experience. This tour company also offers private charters, as well as all-day expeditions for more dolphin-spotting and snorkeling opportunities.

10. Be a Pirate on the Sea Dragon Pirate Cruise

Over in the Lighthouse Marina in Panama City, you’ll find one of the best Panama City Beach attractions, especially if you’re traveling with kids. The Sea Dragon Pirate Cruise offers little ones a chance to live out their swashbuckling fantasies while the adults in the group get to enjoy the show and the scenic cruise aboard a pirate ship. If you’re lucky, you might just spot some dolphins jumping alongside your ship!

Captain “Fearless” Phil is quite the friendly pirate, and he and his crew are ready to give you and your little ones an afternoon of fun and adventure. Kids will love singing along to pirate songs. Don’t worry – they’re quite a bit more family-friendly than real pirate songs. But that’s not all the fun your kids will get up to.

They’ll sword fight, swab the deck, fire the cannons, and even find a sunken treasure. Better come prepared to get wet because there’s also a water gunfight on board. Then, your kids will shake their booties at a pirate dance party. They will be asking you to come back time and again.

Before you head into the water, be sure to check out the historic district inside the park. You’ll find a water tower, lodge, rainbow cottages, duplexes, and recreation hall, all restored to allow you to step back into the park’s past.

Afterward, you can look for wildlife, with the park being home to many different kinds of shorebirds, as well as being a stopping point for many migratory species. Going on a hike through the Canopy Trail, which winds through a canopy of maritime hammock overlooking a salt marsh, is a great way to see the wildlife. And with a proper fishing license, you can also go both freshwater and saltwater fishing here.

You’re also welcome to swim in both the Gulf of Mexico and the lake. But to get further out on the water and explore, you can also rent a kayak or paddleboard from the park.

12. Look for Animals at Conservation Park

As the name implies, Conservation Park , one of the best things to do in Panama City Beach, is dedicated to the protection of our natural environment. But the park also serves as a place where people can enjoy the natural beauty of all this flora and fauna from the safety of its trails. The 2,900-acre park protects wetlands and pine forests while also tending to the waters of St. Andrews Bay.

Conservation Park has over 24 miles of trails to explore, as well as over a mile of boardwalks that go through the cypress domes. The 12 different trails range from 0.6 miles to 11 miles, offering something for everyone, from new hikers looking for a breezy walk to experienced hikers wanting to spend the whole day exploring the park.

Because this park is such an important part of protecting Panama City Beach’s wildlife, taking a guided walk is a great way to see all the animals. The park offers guided Audubon bird walks, as well as recreational programs that allow you to get a deeper understanding of the creatures you’re seeing.

13. Explore Pier Park

But Pier Park is more than a place for great food and shopping. It’s also a place for good times and memories that will stick with you long after the trip is over. Become a part of the show at the Grand IMAX Theater , dine and play at Dave & Buster’s , battle it out in a 1,800-square-foot arena at Pirate’s Quest Laser Tag, and test your skills at the Emerald Coast Mirror Maze .

Coconut Creek Family Fun Park offers two different mini-golf courses, filled with tons of safari-themed attractions. See cascading waterfalls, putt past gorillas and elephants, and meander your way through a tropical jungle filled with native plants and flowing streams. Make your way around Good Luck Lake, teeming with bass, bream, and carp.

But the main attraction at this park is the Gran Maze, a maze that’s nearly the size of a football field. Use your skills to find the four checkpoints and make it out without losing your marbles. If you finish ahead of your group, you can watch their progress from the Observation Deck or play a round of the Maze Runner game or Monkey Ring Toss.

I absolutely adore exploring Florida’s Gulf Coast and uncovering its hidden treasures! One of those treasures is Panama City, next to Panama City Beach, but an entirely different experience. I’ve compiled my favorite things to do in Panama City, Florida, and I hope they inspire you to visit.

Panama City has everything from breathtaking sunsets to bustling historic districts, from lively marine life to a vibrant food and arts scene. This coastal paradise is the ultimate Florida getaway, offering something for everyone to enjoy.

Getting There

Panama City is served by Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (ECP), about 20 minutes from downtown. Visitors arriving by car can enter via Interstate 10 and US Highway 98.

OUTDOOR ADVENTURES

Explore shell island’s marine life with flippin’ awesome adventures.

Captain Chris, a skilled marine biologist, knows the area’s marine life as if it were the back of his hand, and he brought us up close to the wondrous sea creatures along St. Andrews Bay and Shell Island. It was SO much fun!

Spend the Day at St. Andrews State Park

With shorelines along the Gulf of Mexico and St. Andrews Bay, St. Andrews State Park is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and families. The park is perfect for activities like biking, fishing, and kayaking, and the 1.5-mile sandy beach is a serene spot for a leisurely stroll or some family fun in the surf. Nature lovers can explore the park’s trails, like the Heron Pond Trail and Gator Lake Trail, in search of wildlife and breathtaking views. Additionally, boat shuttles whisk visitors to the enchanting Shell Island for further adventures.

Take a Sunset Dolphin Cruise on the Grand Mere

One of my favorite activities in Panama City was taking the 1.5-hour sunset cruise aboard the Grand Mere double-decker boat. Although it has an air-conditioned cabin, I stood out by the railing on the upper level the whole time, taking in the view.

We spotted several dolphin pods diving and jumping in the waves below. Seeing dolphins in the wild never gets old, but they’re hard to photograph well.

And then, oh man, as the sun started setting, the sky lit up with all the colors. It was the perfect ending to an unforgettable day!

Explore Oaks by The Bay Park

The Old Sentry Tree at Oaks by the Bay Park.

Just a stone’s throw away from the lively eateries and cute boutiques of St. Andrews, I discovered Oaks By The Bay Park, a serene oasis on the bay. Right smack dab in the middle stands the towering Old Sentry Tree, a centuries-old live oak that’s seen it all. And it’s now surrounded by a gorgeous new timeline mural.

Past the tree, a boardwalk stretched, leading to a breathtaking panoramic view of St. Andrews Bay.

It was beautiful in the daytime, but I couldn’t help picturing how epic the sunsets must be at night.

As I strolled back from the water, I stopped to admire the scattered carved wooden sculptures dotting the park. And, for all you history buffs, don’t miss the old salt pot.

I could have spent hours at this beautiful waterfront park, but there are so many things to do in Panama City that I had to get moving!

Sit and Swing By the Shore

Sit back and relax on the colorful pergola swings at Asbell Park while enjoying the view of boats sailing by on St. Andrews Bay. It’s one of my fave beach access points in Panama City.

When you’ve had your fill of swinging, cool off by dipping your toes in the surf or wading into the waves.

Pro Tip: There’s a parking lot across West Beach Rd., which is a busy road, so make sure to use the safety crossing signals when heading to the park.

HISTORY, ARTS AND CULTURE

Follow the panama city mural trail.

With some 20-odd murals scattered throughout downtown and in St. Andrews (with more to come), you’re bound to stumble across several of them as you explore all the fun things to do in Panama City. Still, if you’re a mural junkie (like me!), you may enjoy making it a point to follow the mural trail and see them all.

Along with the stunning postcard mural, you’ll find sea creatures, whimsical animals, sidewalk murals, and more.

The Darkside and Lightside murals in St. Andrews are absolutely stunning! They can be found along Beck Avenue on the sides of Sound Collective and Little Indigo Spa.

And if you search around St. Andrews, you’ll uncover oodles of micro-murals with sweet, whimsical themes.

Go on a Gallery Stroll

Pop into the Panama City Center for the Arts to peruse the galleries and gift shop. The murals on the outside are as beautiful as the artwork on the inside.

Check Out the Saltworks Sign and Antique Salt Pot

Directly across from Asbell Park , there’s a sign detailing the history of St. Andrews Saltworks and one of the original salt pots used during the Civil War.

Salt pots were large containers used to boil seawater for extracting salt. By heating the seawater until it evaporated, salt was left behind for various purposes, such as food preservation and seasoning. This method was particularly common in coastal regions lacking access to salt mines.

Explore Bay County History

Local history museums always pique my interest—I love uncovering the events that shape the region. Although time was tight at the Bay County Museum , some exhibits caught my eye, like the display on The Hang Out and other tourist attractions from yesteryear. Old Florida fascinates me.

I also enjoyed the exhibit featuring the area’s Civil Rights Trail stop—the historic Gideon vs. Wainwright landmark court case. The Supreme Court ruled that anyone accused of a crime is guaranteed the right to legal counsel—a pivotal piece of history. Don’t miss the interactive video that accompanies the exhibit!.

Many other fascinating artifacts, stories, and events illuminate Panama City’s heritage. History museums aren’t just for buffs—they’re fun and eye-opening for everyone.

For a guided experience, join the free walking tours of Historic St. Andrews offered by the Panama City Publishing Museum every Wednesday and Friday at 1 pm.

Explore Panama City’s Ink-Stained Legacy

The Panama City Publishing Museum is a living testament to the legacy of the West family, who played a pivotal role in shaping Panama City’s history. George Mortimer West, a multifaceted entrepreneur, founded the city and established the Panama City Publishing Company building in 1920 alongside his wife, Lillian Carlisle West. This historic building housed Panama City’s earliest newspapers and was a commercial print shop for local businesses.

Inside the museum, visitors are treated to a glimpse of the past with vintage printing equipment, personal artifacts of the West family, and over 70 historical items, including original printing presses.

Lillian Carlisle West, a trailblazer in her own right as the first woman registered to vote in St. Andrews, continued to run the business after George’s passing.

The museum offers monthly rotating exhibits, ensuring there’s always something new to discover about Panama City’s vibrant history.

Any opportunity to work with hot glass is a must for me! (I created ornaments in Grapevine, Texas , and crafted pumpkins AND paperweights in Corning, New York .)

Create Your Own Jewelry

I was blown away the moment I stepped into LH Bead Gallery . It’s a jewelry-making wonderland with thousands of beads in every color and size imaginable. People travel from miles around to experience it. It’s a super-sized version of The Bead Lady in Concord, NC.

Here’s the most incredible part: LH Bead Gallery hosts ongoing walk-in workshops and teacher-led classes, so whether you’re a seasoned pro or just itching to give it a shot (like me!), there’s fun stuff happening all month long.

Here’s a tip: Check out the display case in the back showcasing finished projects. It’s the perfect way to scope out which classes you want to dive into.

Get Artistic with Floriopolis

Floriopolis in Panama City is a community arts and education center offering workshops, classes, and events to promote creativity and the arts. It’s a fun place where everyone can get involved and explore their artistic side.

Fun Fact: Floriopolis was one of the original names of Panama City!

Stop in to see what Floriopolis is up to. Some of their fun community art projects have included Fence Art, store window painting, the FLLUXE Arts Festival featuring fantastic chalk art, and a Flower-Palooza.

Staying at Hotel Indigo ? Enjoy a leisurely stroll on the boardwalk to this nearby restaurant—it’s just steps away. Don’t miss the chance to soak in the glorious Panama City sunsets from the patio, especially on a beautiful day.

I opted for a refreshing salad for dinner featuring fresh peaches, candied pecans, and grilled chicken—it was perfect!

Uncle Ernie’s Bayfront Grill

Perched over St. Andrews Bay, this spot offers three levels of outdoor dining, perfect for soaking in waterfront vibes. Although we missed the sunset during our late dinner, the ambiance by the water was still magical.

Bayou Joe’s Marina & Grill

Savor breakfast, lunch, or dinner on the water at Bayou Joe’s. Unlike any other spot, this restaurant is on the water as the dock extends into the inlet, offering stunning 180-degree sunrise and sunset views.

Pro Tip: Bayou Joe’s sits at the marina where Flippin’ Awesome Adventures sets sail. It’s the ideal spot for a meal before or after your marine excursion.

Located on the 5th floor of Hotel Indigo, the open-air rooftop bar and restaurant boasts sweeping views of Panama City Marina. Steam on 5 offers a full coastal cuisine menu and delightful craft cocktails. Our mid-afternoon snack of flatbread pizza was the perfect complement to the stunning scenery as we enjoyed a leisurely afternoon.

Keep in mind that the open-air setting can get quite warm and humid on muggy days, but the stunning view and a refreshing drink can make it all worth it.

I loved this cozy diner-style restaurant situated along Little Johnson Bayou. If the weather’s nice, sit out on the patio and enjoy the scenery; it’s absolutely gorgeous there!

At Mama’s On The Bayou , you’ll find a breakfast spread full of classics: think fluffy pancakes, crispy bacon, and eggs cooked just right. Indulge in decadent French toast or the comforting goodness of biscuits and gravy (trust me, they’re amazing!). Whether you’re getting ready for the day or taking it easy in the morning, Mama’s breakfast menu has something for everyone’s taste buds to enjoy.

Spice Up Your Palate at Holi Indian Grill

I had a mouthwatering lunch at Holi Indian Grill! The menu was full of tempting options, but I couldn’t resist their Tikki Masala paired with warm, pillowy Naan bread—it was fantastic! The dish also had a side of rice and chickpeas, adding to the deliciousness.

We also indulged in some samosas for starters, which were excellent. Whether you’re a spice lover or simply curious about Indian cuisine, Holi Indian Grill is the place to be.

Vibe, Sip, Taco at El Weirdo Taco Pub

El Weirdo Taco Pub embraces the weirdness! From the quirky decor both inside and outside, it’s an Instagram enthusiast’s dream come true.

But what really steals the show? Their crazy good tacos! They have a variety of delicious tacos, including vegetarian options, and they serve some really fun cocktails too.

Chow Down on Island Style Grub at Finn’s in Little Village

Finn’s is located in the Little Village, a waterfront shopping, dining, and entertainment venue in St. Andrews. The beachy casual restaurant is known for its fresh, high-quality ingredients.

If you’re craving a taste of the sea, their fish tacos are very popular, but I decided to go for something different and try their veggie tacos. Packed with spring mix, black beans, sweet potatoes, pico, cabbage, Valentina, and cheese, they were a flavorful surprise. The sweet potatoes and spicy sauce, in particular, were absolutely delicious.

Shop and Explore Historic Downtown Panama City

Downtown Panama City just completed a major glow-up, and it’s seriously awesome! They’ve spruced up the streets with colorful plants and flowers and widened the sidewalks, too, so there’s even more space for outdoor seating. The whole downtown vibe is so welcoming now.

Though not currently open, the Art Deco exterior of the Martin Theatre in downtown Panama City begs to be photographed.

And the shopping ain’t bad either! Stop into Accents , Jute & Palm and The Little Mustard Seed for home decor and accessories, and visit Baywitch for crystals, jewelry, and all things metaphysical . And don’t miss C & G Sporting Goods for all your outdoor gear needs.

Save some of those pennies for shopping locally in St. Andrews, too.

Pop into the shops at Little Village for fair trade and handcrafted local treasures, and for cute clothing, accessories, and gifts, I loved Gypsy Willow and Twisted Toucan .

RELAX AND REJUVENATE

Treat yourself to a relaxing massage.

The Spa on Harrison is a hop and a skip away from Hotel Indigo at the Panama City Marina, where I stayed. Plus, being on Harrison Avenue, it is also walkable from downtown.

During my visit, I managed to squeeze in a 30-minute massage and let me tell you; it was absolute bliss! What’s great about this spa is that you can undress in the treatment room—no need to deal with lockers, robes, and slippers. It’s all about keeping things simple and stress-free.

Raise a Glass to the Past

The moment I stepped into History Class Brewing Company , I was hooked! Everywhere I turned, memorabilia, photos, and artifacts brought the area’s past to life in such a cool way. It was like taking a stroll through history right there in the brewpub.

Check out the QR codes scattered around the brewery—they’re like little treasure maps to extra history tidbits. And you’ve gotta make a pit stop in the bathroom hallways; they’re packed with some seriously fantastic displays. You’ll learn about Paul Conrad, aka “The South’s Strongest Boy,” and get the scoop on the history of the “Jr. Store.” It’s genuinely a mini history class during your brewery visit.

Need some new ink? And a drink? Start by making an appointment for your newest tattoo at one of the most incredible tattoo shops in Panama City— The Prominent Goat , a speakeasy-style tattoo parlor.

Once you’ve been inked, you can reward yourself with a visit to Thistle & Thorne , an eclectically designed craft cocktail and tea bar connected to The Prominent Goat. The decor will blow your mind—it includes a supine skeleton named Betty in a glass case.

I can’t think of a better reward for sitting for a tat than a proper cocktail or, in my case, some freshly brewed tea—they have countless varieties. Thistle & Thorne is where art meets spirits in the wildest way possible.

Final Thoughts

I was excited to see how unique Panama City, Florida, is from its neighbor, Panama City Beach. It’s a quieter, more historic destination with the same turquoise waters and soft, sandy beaches. And it has phenomenal places to eat!

What To Do In Panama City, Florida For A Romantic Getaway

W e’re sharing our favorite way to spend a romantic weekend in Panama City, Florida. Step away from the bustling beaches and discover the hidden charm, culture, and culinary delights that Panama City has to offer. Go home with lasting memories and a new favorite destination.

In our opinion, a great romantic weekend includes doing all the fun things together while exploring a destination. From creating art to enjoying the water to relaxing at the spa.

Here is our recommendation of things to do for a romantic escape to Panama City, Florida.

Dolphin & Snorkel Tour

Head over to Flippin’ Awesome Adventures for a private dolphin and snorkel tour. Guided by marine biologist, Chris Farley, this excursion isn’t just about spotting dolphins; it’s about understanding and appreciating these incredible creatures in their natural habitat.

As you glide through the Gulf waters, Captain Chris will share insights and stories about local marine life. If you’re lucky, you might catch a few dolphins putting on a playful show.

Enjoy A Sunset Cruise

As the sun starts to dip below the horizon, take a romantic Sunset Cruise. Depart from Papa Joe’s Bayside on the Grand Mere. The sunset cruise might just be the highlight of your trip. Enjoy the gentle breeze, the colors of the setting sun, and each other’s company as you sail through the bay. If you’re really lucky you might even see a pod of dolphins playing

Panama City Hot Glass

If you’re looking to infuse your weekend with a bit of creativity, head to Panama City Hot Glass.

Take a hands-on glass-blowing class to create a keepsake that will forever remind you of your trip. I had a great time creating a sea star and enjoyed the entire process. It’s amazing how a blog of glass shards can turn into a work of art.

Note, you’ll need to wear closed-toe shoes and make sure you follow the instructors directions because hot glass is no joke.

Downtown Art Scene

Venture into the heart of creativity with a stroll through the Downtown Art Scene . Visit the Panama City Center for the Arts (19 East 4th Street) and immerse yourselves in contemporary artworks from local and regional artists. Take your time exploring the various galleries, discovering unique pieces that spark conversations and leave you inspired.

For a touch of pampering, schedule a visit to The Spa on Harrison (25 Harrison Avenue). Enjoy a relaxing massage or indulge in a rejuvenating spa treatment. The serene ambiance and skilled therapists ensure a tranquil experience, making it the perfect way to unwind together.

Mural Trail

Explore the city’s vibrant personality through the Mural Trail . Wander through the streets and alleys adorned with captivating murals that tell tales of Panama City’s rich history and cultural diversity. The magic happens as you step outside, greeted by stunning views of the bay – a perfect backdrop for your romantic getaway.

Where To Eat in Panama City, FL

There are a lot of great breakfast options but we recommend The Press , which has a fantastic selection of crepes and coffee, in a great downtown location or, for waterfront dining, head over to Bayou Joe’s for it’s laid-back ambiance and “Old Florida” charm plus an amazing selection breakfast selection.

Our recommendations for lunch is either Finn’s in Little Village for fresh tacos, burritos, and quesadillas or El Weirdo for even more taco options. Hey, what can we say, we love tacos.

For dinner we have two great choices, both of which are waterfront so yay for that, Uncle Ernie’s is upscale casual and a perfect little spot for a romantic dinner or Harrison’s Kitchen , located next to Hotel Indigo, which has great outdoor waterfront dining and tasty bites.
