Celebrity Cruises food guide: A look at all the restaurants and dining options on board

Melinda Crow

It's amazing how Celebrity Cruises ' food has changed over the years!

My first Celebrity cruise was on Zenith, the line's second purpose-built ship. It carried fewer than 2,000 passengers. Breakfast and lunch were served in the ship's buffet area, and dinner was served at set times in the main dining room. That was it. There were no specialty restaurants.

Today, Celebrity Cruises ships are much larger — with the smallest being almost twice the gross tonnage Zenith had (91,000 gross tonnes versus 47,000 gross tonnes) — and have far more space devoted to food.

For cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Choices on current Celebrity ships range from complimentary offerings that your cruise fare covers to higher-quality food that comes at an extra cost. With different venues on different ships, all those choices can get confusing. Which Celebrity restaurants will be on your next cruise?

Whether you've cruised with Celebrity recently or are new to the line, you need a food guide to keep up with what's available on which ship. Knowing which food choices each ship has might be a deciding factor in which ship you book.

You might be surprised to learn that food choices can play a big role in which cabin category you choose on Celebrity, as certain cabins and suites grant access to exclusive restaurants and complimentary room service or offer priority seating in specialty venues.

Our Celebrity food guide starts with a list of all the eateries, along with which ships they are found on. After that, you'll find some of the most-asked questions about Celebrity food. Note: Our guide does not cover the Galapagos expedition ships, but you can expect an indoor dining room and a multipurpose alfresco option on each of those ships.

celebrity cruise line dining options

Included for AquaClass guests, space-available basis for Retreat guests; breakfast and dinner

Guests who book an AquaClass spa cabin can access the exclusive restaurant, Blu, for breakfast and lunch. Breakfast is a delight, with fresh fruit smoothies included every day. The dinner menu changes daily, plus you can order from the main dining room menu if you'd prefer.

The cruise line's descriptions of Blu make it sound like it serves spa or healthy food. While there are healthy choices on the menu, I found the menu overall to be more akin to a main dining room's — but with higher-quality food.

For example, breakfast offerings include fresh fruit smoothies each day — nothing fancy with additives like greens or chia seeds similar to what you can purchase at the Spa Cafe, just tasty fruit in a glass. The atmosphere and service are more like a specialty restaurant. Social media posts are filled with cruisers who book AquaClass rooms specifically for the privilege of dining in Blu.

Brunch or Dinner on the Edge

Fixed price; brunch and dinner on select days

These two options are alfresco food experiences, rather than separate restaurants. They are scheduled events that take place on the Magic Carpet elevator positioned on the side of the ship. For these events, the Magic Carpet is stationed next to the pool deck (aka resort deck). The dinner menu includes seafood and chateaubriand.

Available on : Celebrity Apex , Ascent, Beyond and Edge

Cabana food

Included and a la carte; all-day dining

If you rent a deck cabana on the Edge Class ships or an Alcove on the Solstice Class ships, you will be presented with an exclusive food menu. The list includes fruit skewers, snacks and sandwiches.

Available on : Celebrity Apex, Ascent , Beyond, Eclipse, Edge, Equinox, Reflection, Silhouette and Solstice

Cafe al Bacio

celebrity cruise line dining options

Included and a la carte; snacks

Expect typical coffee shop fare, including pastries, cakes, tarts and cookies. A few of these are the same as you would find in the buffet at the Oceanview Cafe, but I found that most are exclusive to Cafe al Bacio. On a recent cruise, I enjoyed eclairs, sugar donuts and a slice of luscious red velvet cake. There are typically three or more cookie choices, while the ice cream area in Oceanview typically only has one.

The baked goods are complimentary; coffee and specialty teas are priced a la carte but are included in both the Classic and Premium beverage packages. A gelato counter is found next to or across from the coffee and snack counter. Unlike the ice cream counter in the buffet area, this gelato comes with an added charge. Captain's Club members receive a free scoop per cruise starting after you earn 2 cruise points or complete your first cruise.

Celebrity Edge Class and Solstice Class ships have a second Cafe al Bacio (called Il Segundo Bacio) located in the Oceanview Cafe buffet area. The menu of drinks (extra charge) matches what you'd find in the main Bacio location on board, which makes it a convenient spot to grab a specialty coffee or glass of wine to accompany your casual meal. Just don't expect the specialty snacks found at the main location; you can pick up snacks at the buffet instead.

Cosmopolitan Restaurant

Included and a la carte; breakfast, lunch on sea days and dinner

This is the point at which Celebrity food choices become confusing. In an effort to break away from the traditional main dining room experience, Celebrity Edge Class ships split the main dining room into four distinctly decorated restaurants, each with a menu that is made up of basics available in all four, plus selections that are exclusive to that restaurant. Guests are assigned to one of the four but may opt to dine at any of the other three at any time they choose.

Cosmopolitan, serving daily breakfast and lunch on sea days, is the one most closely resembling a standard main dining room. The dinner menu changes nightly but includes some items that are always available. There are also premium selections of filet mignon and broiled lobster tail that come with an added charge.

Available on : Celebrity Apex, Ascent, Beyond and Edge

Craft Social

A la carte; all-day dining

They had me at "Mac 'n' Brie." Craft Social is a bar, but it has a somewhat secret bar food menu. It's really only a secret if you don't typically go there to drink. Everyone who frequents the place knows about the good eats.

Cyprus Restaurant

celebrity cruise line dining options

Included and a la carte; dinner

Cyprus is one of the four main dining rooms on Edge Class ships. It features a basic menu that is available in all four dining rooms, plus an exclusive menu of Mediterranean offerings (think: lamb kabobs or coq au vin).

Included; breakfast and lunch

Celebrity offers breakfast and lunch counter service at Eden Cafe during limited hours. It is near the popular specialty dining venue, Eden Restaurant, but the food served at the cafe is complimentary. Specialty coffees and teas like those served at Cafe al Bacio, plus grab-and-go food and lighter fare like soups and salads come with an added charge.

Eden Restaurant

celebrity cruise line dining options

Fixed price; dinner

This is fine dining with an earthy menu featuring seafood, lamb, beef and chicken entrees. Three different dining experiences are available: the main menu, a seven-course tasting menu with optional wine pairings and a seven-course vegan tasting menu with optional organic wine pairings. The dress code is smart casual, so no need to get all dolled up for a meal here.

Fine Cut Steakhouse

Celebrity's version of the American steakhouse features everything you'd expect from a high-end, land-based steakhouse. The menu includes grilled seafood, steaks, chicken and lamb, as well as prime rib. Topping choices range from bearnaise to blue cheese to black truffle butter. Additional entrees come with an extra charge, as do dry-aged beef cuts.

Lawn Club Grill

Fixed price; lunch and dinner

Celebrity puts a twist on backyard barbecue with the Lawn Club Grill. At this grill restaurant, you can sit back and enjoy the view of the ocean beyond the only real grass yard at sea while you wait to be served. The menu includes a full salad bar, custom flatbread pizza appetizers and a list of desserts that makes me want to keep going back until I've tried them all. At the top of my list is the warm chocolate chip cookie, which is not a cookie at all but rather cookie dough baked in a 4-inch ramekin until crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside; it's served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.

Available on : Celebrity Reflection and Silhouette

Le Grande Bistro

Fixed price; breakfast, lunch and dinner

Imagine a French sidewalk cafe at sea serving warm croissants with Nutella at breakfast and a daily special that ranges from baked ham sandwiches on French baguettes to pan-seared Dover sole.

Le Petit Chef

celebrity cruise line dining options

The experience at Le Petit Chef goes far beyond the food on the plate. That's because the entire table comes to life with an animated show throughout the meal. The menu is broken into two options: Le Menu Extraordinaire and "The Other Menu." The first features chicken, while the "other" choice is a filet mignon. Both lean toward rich French cuisine.

celebrity cruise line dining options

Included for Retreat guests; breakfast, lunch on sea days and dinner

Expect food that is a notch above even some of the specialty dining options on board. Service is designed to cater to your every need. Breakfast offers a choice of staples, while the lunch and dinner menus rotate daily.

Main dining room

Each non-Edge Class ship in the fleet has a single, multistory main dining room. The main dining room has a different name on each ship. The food is complimentary, except for extra a la carte options available each night. The menu changes daily and is available in the Celebrity app, on your cabin's interactive TV and posted near the dining room.

All Celebrity ships, except the expedition vessels, have the option to choose traditional early and late dining where you sit at the same table at the same time with the same people and the same set of servers each night.

Alternatively, guests can select the line's flexible dining option, called Celebrity Select Anytime Dining. You will be assigned to a specific floor of the dining room (or a specific dining room on Edge Class ships). You can make reservations for specific times each day, which gets you seated quickly and often with the added benefit of dining with the same servers each night. If you do not make reservations, you can show up when you're ready and wait for an available table. Without reservations, you might have to wait a while to be seated. Diners on the flexible plan can ask to try different tables and different servers throughout the week.

Available on : Non-Edge Class ships

Magic Carpet restaurant

celebrity cruise line dining options

A la carte; lunch and dinner

The Magic Carpet is the elevator-style platform attached to the side of all Edge Class ships. When the platform is positioned next to Raw on 5, it features a menu that includes favorites from the Raw on 5 menu but with extras. For example, the lunch menu includes a turkey club sandwich and a lobster roll, as well as fish and chips.

Included; lunch and dinner

The Mast Grill is your go-to spot for poolside burgers and hot dogs along with all the toppings, fries and onion rings. It's ideal for a quick alfresco bite before or after a port excursion.

Murano serves French cuisine in a fine dining setting. Guests have the choice of the five-course tasting menu called "Five Senses" or their own starter and entree, among a broad selection of meat, poultry and fish options. Caviar is available at market price.

Available on : Celebrity Eclipse, Equinox, Reflection, Silhouette, Solstice and Summit

Normandie Restaurant

celebrity cruise line dining options

If you can't get enough French-inspired food or you like it but not enough to splurge on it in a specialty restaurant, you can dine at this French-inspired main dining room for free. You can choose from the basics served in all main dining rooms or opt for the Normandie exclusives, such as sirloin en croute or duck confit.

Oceanview Cafe

Included; breakfast, lunch, and dinner

Oceanview Cafe is the ship's buffet eatery. Expect a full range of globally inspired foods at every meal. Cooked-to-order egg, pancake and waffle stations are the center of breakfast choices. At lunch, look for meat-carving stations, salads, sandwich-making bars and a fresh pizza station. Plus, there's ice cream by the scoop. Dinner includes pizza, pasta and salad stations, plus cook-to-order stir fry and grilling stations.

As the name suggests, Raw on 5 is the spot to get your sushi (or even your oyster) fix on Edge Class ships. The menu goes beyond just sushi with a modern Japanese menu that includes cooked dishes like chicken teriyaki and pan-seared rib-eye medallions.

Rooftop Garden Grill

celebrity cruise line dining options

Start with spicy wings and work your way through a choice of burgers, pizza, kabobs or ribs at this alfresco, top-of-ship restaurant. Imagine summer backyard party food to get a sense of what to expect.

Included and a la carte; breakfast and lunch

The solarium is the spot to seek out healthy alternatives to heavy cruise food. Fruit and yogurt cups, salads, light sandwiches, wraps and granola are yours for the taking each day. Smoothies and fresh juices are available for an extra charge or come included if you purchase a drink package.

Sushi on Five

With a more limited menu than its Edge Class cousin, Sushi on Five features traditional sushi and sashimi with only a few non-seafood options. The Kobe Beef Ramen Slider might be the perfect secret menu item for that stubborn travel companion who just doesn't do sushi.

Available on : Celebrity Constellation, Eclipse, Equinox, Infinity, Millennium and Reflection

The Porch Seafood Restaurant

Picture yourself at a seaside resort in the Hamptons noshing on lobster rolls or a basket of blackened mahi-mahi tacos. Oh wait, you're not really in the Hamptons; you're cruising on one of only two ships in the Celebrity fleet with this unique semi-enclosed restaurant on Deck 15. Opening hours are weather dependent — high winds would be the main cause for a closure. The venue has limited seating, so you'll need reservations.

The Retreat Lounge

celebrity cruise line dining options

Included for Retreat guests; lunch and snacks

The Retreat Lounge serves up bar bites, gourmet snacks and even gourmet burgers on occasion. Check with servers for what's available to munch on each day.

Tuscan Grill

Combine all things Italian with a classic steakhouse, and you'll find yourself in Tuscan Grill. The menu is extensive enough for you to dine here multiple times. From soup to pasta and pizza to entrees featuring beef, chicken or seafood, you can't really go wrong with this choice.

Available on : Celebrity Constellation, Equinox, Infinity, Millennium, Reflection, Silhouette, Solstice and Summit

Tuscan Restaurant

celebrity cruise line dining options

Not to be confused with the Tuscan Grill, the fourth and final main dining room choice on Edge Class ships is inspired by Italy. Traditional options are still available, or go all in on the exclusives, such as slow-roasted pork chops or roasted chicken with Asiago cheese sauce.

Frequently asked Celebrity food questions

How does the main dining room work.

At booking, you are offered a choice between traditional times, designated as early or late, or flexible dining called Celebrity Select Anytime Dining.

Do I need reservations for dinner in a specialty restaurant?

Waiter-served, extra-fee restaurants — whether fixed price or a la carte — typically require reservations. Popular choices with limited seating might fill all available time slots as soon as reservations open. As such, it's better to make a reservation to ensure you get the time slot you prefer.

What do 'a la carte' and 'fixed price' mean?

A la carte pricing refers to restaurants where the food is priced per item. You only pay for what you order. An entire menu might be individually priced, as in Raw on 5, or you might only see a few items with prices on an otherwise complimentary menu, as in the main dining room.

Fixed price indicates that dining at the restaurant has a single cover charge for the full meal. Many of Celebrity's fixed-price restaurants have more than one cover charge option. For example, you might select a tasting menu that will have a higher fixed price.

Most also have a la carte choices that are an extra price over and above the cover price. Examples of that are the aged beef options at Fine Cut Steakhouse.

Beverages other than tea, coffee and water are an added charge at fixed-price restaurants unless specifically stated as being included or part of a beverage package.

Which beverages are included with my cruise fare?

Drip coffee, tap water, hot and iced tea, milk and one or more flavored drinks like fruit punch or lemonade dispensed from drink machines are included in the cost of your cruise. All other beverages can be purchased individually, or you can buy a beverage package to pay for unlimited drinks in advance (fine print applies). Read our guide to Celebrity Cruises drink packages for details.

Is there room service, and what does it cost?

Room service is available in all cabins. Continental breakfast is available at no charge; choices include coffee, pastries, fruit and cold cereal. Hot breakfast, lunch, dinner and all snacks incur a delivery charge of $9.95 plus 20% gratuity. The food itself is mostly complimentary, but select items are priced a la carte.

How do specialty dining packages work?

To lower your specialty dining costs, you can buy a multinight package or an unlimited dining package. These are all available for purchase in the cruise planner before sailing. The unlimited package allows you to dine at any specialty restaurant each night of your cruise, plus enjoy lunches when they are available.

Does Celebrity charge extra for lobster?

Lobster tails may be ordered any night of the cruise for an extra charge in the main dining room. If complimentary lobster is served in the dining room as part of the menu, only one lobster tail is included. Additional lobsters are charged to your bill.

Do Captain's Club members have access to Blu or Luminae?

No. Only guests staying in The Retreat suites may enjoy Luminae, and Blu is primarily for AquaClass cabin guests. Retreat passengers may dine in Blu if there is space available.

Cosmopolitan Restaurant

We know our current main dining experience across our fleet is one of the reasons guests sail with us time and time again. To maintain this essence of the Celebrity dining experience on Edge, we created the Cosmopolitan Restaurant—the next evolution of our current main restaurants. The walk-through wine display at the entrance sets the scene for the creative cuisine within—new American with global influences.

Normandie Restaurant

With ties to our elegant Murano specialty restaurant on many of our ships and a nostalgic nod to Celebrity Summit® (wooden panels from the ship are incorporated into the design), Normandie Restaurant features contemporary French cuisine in a modern, upscale, refined space that evokes the romance of springtime in Paris. Enjoy regional European wines, deliciously unique cocktails, tantalizing starters, and mouthwatering entrées.

Cyprus Restaurant

Dear to our hearts, this restaurant represents our Greek heritage. We wanted to create a stunning atmosphere that would represent the Mediterranean fare served here, so we worked with world renowned designer, Patricia Urquiola. In Cyprus, the menu’s main focus is seafood and features simple, clean dishes that celebrate the food and beverages of the Mediterranean region.

Tuscan Restaurant

Step inside and discover the delicious ambiance — a modern classical design centered around Italian fashion and film. Savor mouthwatering cuisine inspired by authentic southern Italian eateries, featuring all homemade pastas prepared with a rustic flare. Your taste buds will get a tour of southern Italy without even stepping ashore.

Exclusive Restaurants for The Retreat® and AquaClass®

Luminae at the retreat®.

Dining on Celebrity Edge is an exclusive affair for guests of The Retreat with access to a private restaurant, Luminae at The Retreat®—the highest-rated restaurant in our fleet. Luminae is sumptuously designed by Kelly Hoppen and features daily changing menus not available in any other restaurant on board.

AquaClass® guests will enjoy this exclusive restaurant featuring clean, crisp flavors and inventive cuisine complemented by an extensive list of sustainable, biodynamic wines. Pair all of that with personalized service, inviting surroundings, and natural light, and you have the fresh and bold experience of Blu.

Celebrity Dining Information

You'll find a dining experience like no other at sea in each one of Celebrity's innovative restaurants. The dramatic two-story main restaurants present soaring ocean views, soft music and exquisite settings of china, white linen and crystal -- with attentive, yet unobtrusive service from European-trained staff. For more casual dining, visit a poolside grill or café, or choose fresh gourmet pizza and 24-hour in-room service. And throughout your cruise, you'll find a dazzling array of specialties in themed buffets. Main Dining Room Policies: Celebrity guests are assigned to one of two seatings in the main dining room for their evening meal, early or late. The early and late seating times can vary by ship or itinerary, but are usually at 6:15 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., respectively. Guests will be confirmed or wait-listed for dining time and table size at time of booking. Celebrity also has Celebrity Select Dining, which allows for open seating at dinner in the main dining room any time between 6:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Dress Code: On most sailings, there will be two evening chic nights. While dressier than smart casual, evening chic is intended to be less dressy than formal attire. Women's evening chic attire includes a skirt, pants or designer jeans with an elegant top, or a cocktail dress. Men should wear pants or designer jeans with a dress shirt, button-down shirt or sweater. Sports coat and blazer are optional. With the exception of the two evening chic nights, the dress code is smart casual. Appropriate attire for men is pants or jeans with a sport shirt, while women are advised to wear a skirt, pants or jeans with a casual top. Shorts and swimwear are never permitted in the main dining room. Beverage Policy: All beverages except tea and water are at an additional cost. Juice and coffee are included with breakfast. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage packages are available for purchase. Special Requests: Special meals are available including low-calorie, vegetarian, no MSG, low/no sodium and low/no cholesterol meals, as well as sugar-free and fat-free desserts. Kosher meals are available on all ships except Celebrity Xpedition and should be requested at least 60 days before the ship's departure date. "Premium" kosher meals are also available, at an additional cost. Kids ages 6-12 now dine at specialty restaurants for only $10. Age 5 and under eat free. All dining rooms onboard Celebrity ships are smoke-free.

Guide to Celebrity Select Dining Plus on Celebrity Edge

We answer all your questions in this complete guide to Celebrity Select Dining Plus on Celebrity Edge, the line's newest class of ships!

Celebrity Select Dining Plus

Share this post:

Celebrity Cruises’ newest class of ships, Celebrity Edge Class, offers a variety of unique dining options. With some new specialty dining restaurants, casual eateries, and the addition of four main dining rooms, the culinary experiences on this ship are unlike anything else you will find in the fleet. The biggest change however is the inception of a new dining program known as Celebrity Select Dining Plus.

As traditionalists, we were skeptical at first, but we were won over by the new program after a 7-night cruise onboard Celebrity Edge . To help you decide if this new approach to dining is right for you, we have put together this FAQ covering Everything You Need to Know About Celebrity Select Dining Plus on Celebrity Edge.

What are the Dining Options on Celebrity Edge?

Like most cruise ships, Celebrity Edge offers cruisers Traditional Dining with an early (6 pm) and late (8:30 pm) seating. Cruisers will be sat at the same table in the same restaurant with the same wait staff for the duration of the cruise.

If you prefer something more flexible, there is the new Celebrity Select Dining Plus. This option offers cruisers the ability to dine at any of the four main dining rooms at various times each night of the cruise. This means you can pick your restaurant and time, but you will not have the same wait staff or table.

This is essentially the same as Select Dining on Millennium or Solstice Class, except there is the added option of four main dining rooms.

Does Celebrity Select Dining Plus Cost Money?

No. There are no additional costs for having Celebrity Select Dining Plus. When you book a reservation on Celebrity Edge, you will be given the option to choose Traditional Early Seating, Traditional Late Seating, or Celebrity Select Dining Plus as your dining preference.

Do keep in mind that this option is limited to a certain number of guests, so it might not be available at the time of your booking. If not, you can contact Celebrity Cruises to get put on a waiting list.

What Restaurants Are Included in Celebrity Select Dining Plus?

You can use Celebrity Select Dining Plus at the four, complimentary main dining room restaurants on Celebrity Edge. These restaurants include Cyprus and Cosmopolitan on Deck 4 and Tuscan and Normandie on Deck 3.

While these four restaurants all offer the same rotational Signature menu, along with the Classics options, each restaurant does have its own small Exclusive menu with items that you can only find at that restaurant.

Each dining venue also offers a unique theme and decor with Cyprus serving up Greek-inspired dishes and Tuscan offering an Italian flare. Normandie has French influences, while Cosmopolitan is the most traditional with American classics.

Do I Have to Wait Until I Am Onboard to Pick My Restaurants?

One of the biggest benefits of Celebrity Select Plus Dining is the ability to make dinner reservations at the four above mentioned restaurants pre-cruise. You do not need to wait until you are on the ship to decide when and where to eat each night of your cruise.

You can pre-book your reservations before the cruise or while onboard the ship using the Celebrity Cruises App. We booked all four restaurants ahead of time with no problems.

Keep in mind, if you have traditional dining, you will be assigned to one of these four restaurants for the duration of the cruise.

Do I Have to Pre-Book My Restaurants?

No, reservations are not necessary with Celebrity Select Dining Plus. While you can make them ahead of time if you choose, you also have the option to just walk up to a restaurant when you feel like dining.

Like a restaurant on land, you might be quoted a wait time and given a pager if you arrive at the prime dinner hour. This flexible option also gives you the ability to pre-book for some days of the cruise and just walk up on other days.

Celebrity Select Dining Plus leaves all the choices up to you.

Does Celebrity Select Dining Plus Work in Blu or Luminae?

Blu and Luminae are exclusive restaurants for Aqua Class and Suite Class (respectively). These restaurants are always first come, first serve, and you can not make reservations at either venue.

celebrity cruise line dining options

If you have Celebrity Select Dining Plus, you can choose to dine at the other main dining rooms on some evenings and these exclusive restaurants on a walk up basis on other evenings.

How Do I Know Which Restaurants Are Not Busy?

Unlike some cruise lines that have screens showcasing wait times at restaurants, there is no way of knowing whether a particular restaurant has a wait. While the app will show you which restaurants are currently open, it does not let you know wait times.

The good thing is that all four of the restaurants are clustered together, aft on Decks 4 and 3. So, if you do not have a preference, you can do a quick survey to see if one venue looks busier than another venue.

Will I End Up Waiting for a Table?

In our experience, we never had to wait for a table, whether we had a reservation or not (We had a reservation for 3 of the 4 restaurants.). At most, there were usually two or three parties ahead of us, so it only took a few minutes to be checked in and escorted to a table.

We did typically dine earlier in the evening, so we can not speak for later in the evening.

We did see pagers given out on occasion though. While we were not clocking them, we would say that they didn’t wait more than about 20 minutes. And, this was at peak dining time, around 7:30 pm, on the second Evening Chic night (AKA lobster night).

What is the Service Like with Celebrity Select Dining Plus?

Fabulous! We were concerned that service would suffer with this dining option. However, we are happy to report that we had excellent service at every restaurant. Even though we had a different crew every night, the staff was friendly and attentive.

Our meals were mostly well-timed, with courses well spaced out. Further, the menu items were always delivered at the appropriate temperatures. Kudos to Celebrity Cruises for trying something new and making it work right out of the gate!

What About Specialty Restaurants?

On Celebrity Edge, there are also several new specialty restaurants that are an up-charge. When you have Select Dining Plus, you can still eat at these venues if you choose. Please know that the specialty restaurants are reservation only, except for Raw on 5.

celebrity cruise line dining options

Popular venues (like Fine Cut Steakhouse or Le Petit Chef and Friends ) do fill up quickly, especially at prime dinner times. If you want to dine at a specialty restaurant, we recommend making reservations before your cruise. While onboard, there will be limited availability, usually later in the evening.

What About Tipping?

This was an area that we struggled with too. Part of the daily service charge is always reserved for the waitstaff in the restaurants. With traditional dining, we always tip our wait staff additionally at the end of the cruise.

In a specialty restaurant, you will get a receipt to sign where you can provide additional gratuity if you choose. However, there is no easy way to tip on your SeaPass card at these complimentary venues with Celebrity Select Plus Dining.

We recommend taking some small bills with you if you plan on providing additional gratuities. This is by no means necessary as the staff is already receiving part of that daily service charge. Though, it seems like cash is the easiest way to show your appreciation for superb service with this dining option.

Which Ships Have Celebrity Select Plus Dining?

Currently, this program is only available on Edge Class ships. Other cruise ships in the fleet do offer the similar Celebrity Select dining option. This option allows you to dine in the central main dining room at different times each evening.

We are told that when you order a 4 evening specialty restaurant package, we can’t request what restaurants we want until we board the Edge. Are there always enough specialty restaurants with early seating, approx. 6:00pm, reserved since we can’t reserve ahead of time? Your notes above indicate early seating could be difficult if not called for in advance. This is especially an issue for us, since we have a young man in an electric wheelchair and we are a party of 5.

Celebrity Constellation Dining

celebrity cruise line dining options

Celebrity Constellation prides itself on delivering a consistently palate-pleasing dining experience. Considering that the galley delivers thousands of tasty meals three times a day to passengers with different culinary traditions and needs, occasional misses are not surprising. The good news is that if something doesn't satisfy, you can simply order something else rather than stew over a tough piece of meat or overcooked eggs. Servers stress this, knowing that everyone from the executive chef on down is determined to make you happy with your food and drink. Most servers guide passengers through the daily menu, suggesting popular items and warning you away from dishes that haven't passed muster with other passengers. We've learned it's wise to heed their advice.

Occasionally there are special theme-type parties and dinners celebrating a port or holiday; you'll find them along with the restaurant and drink specials of the day in the ship's daily newsletter.

Celebrity Constellation's massive two-deck, 1,170-seat San Marco dining room features an elegant curving double staircase leading from the upper to the lower dining rooms. Two rows of dark wood columns form a corridor from the stairway to a dramatic two-deck-high wall of windows, which offers views of the ship's trailing wake.

For breakfast, served 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m., passengers can sip their coffee while enjoying eggs to order served with potatoes, sausage or bacon, omelets, pancakes, waffles, cereals, pastries and other breakfast favorites. There is no assigned seating for breakfast or lunch.

Lunch seating begins at noon and ends at 1:30 p.m. Diners can choose from standard entree items like hamburgers, soups, sandwiches, pastas and salads or choose from specials like shepherd's pie, fried chicken, fish and chips and international dishes including Indian, Chinese and Italian.

For dinner, passengers can opt for traditional set seating at 5:45 p.m. (early) or 8:15 p.m. (late), or choose "Select Main Dining," which offers open seating between 5:15 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Menus consist of a choice of appetizers, soups and salads, entrees and desserts, and dinner is served over a leisurely two-plus hours, which give diners time to get to know their new tablemates and share stories about onshore and shipboard adventures. The menu is divided into two sections: one lists items always on the menu -- ranging from escargot and shrimp cocktail to steak and grilled salmon -- while the other lists the day's specials. A fleetwide tradition, a lobster entree is offered on the last formal night.

Menus offer a wide range of traditional international dishes from mild (beef Wellington, prime rib, fried chicken or veal chops) to wild (frog's legs, snails and ceviche). For vegetarians, there are several meat-free options like vegetable and ricotta cheese-stuffed "conch" shells and vegetable paella. Low-calorie specialties, like poached salmon, grilled chicken breasts or sugar-free desserts, are marked with a little heart on the menu. Celebrity deserves special commendation for its portion restraint (in the main dining room, at least). The reasonably sized appetizers and salads allow passengers to save room for dessert. It's also perfectly acceptable to order two starters, appetizers or desserts if you're really hungry or just can't make up your mind.

All of the dining venues offer their own selection of mostly American and European wines on a list that runs from $25 on up. There are also a few trophy wines like a bottle of Screaming Eagle ($1,000-plus). Sommeliers assigned to each table can be very helpful in selecting wines suited to your palate and pocketbook. If you plan on drinking wine most evenings, one of the wine packages can save you money. Service will save partially consumed wine bottles for your next dinner or lunch. As of now, passengers are no longer limited to bringing only two bottles of wine onboard for consumption during the cruise. Keep in mind that there is a $25 per bottle corkage fee to drink your own bottles in the dining room or any public spaces.

Celebrity now offers a new restaurant venue carved out of the San Marco dining room that is exclusively dedicated to suite passengers and upper-tier loyalty program members. It has its own chef's team and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.

For a casual meal, head to the Oceanview Cafe, Constellation's buffet venue on Deck 10. The oval space feels a bit like a running track with various food stations positioned along and inside the loop. Seating is casual and pleasant with views of the ocean. It can get a bit crowded at peak times, but there are enough duplicate food stations so passengers never have to wait too long for chow.

Breakfast offers a host of tasty and sometimes exotic items designed to satisfy Asian, English, Indian and American palates. Scrambled eggs are a favorite, fresh and never watery, though served from a steam-table tray. There's an omelet station where you can build your own or order eggs cooked your favorite way.

Lunch and dinner are international feasts with offerings like pizza and pasta, sushi and Asian stir-fries and curries, and fish and chips and other English specialties. Plus, there are sandwich and salad bars, along with a Caesar salad station. Desert choices are many, ranging from mini-tarts and sugar-free puddings to warm cookies, ice cream and soft serve. Beverage servers bring beer or wine (for an extra fee) on request.

The adjacent Sunset Bar, inspired by the richly lacquered cherry wood and khaki canvas sails of a classic schooner, provides alfresco seating on the stern for about 120 passengers. On sunny days, you'll find many diners there enjoying a quiet bite as they gaze at the ship's wake.

From noon to 6 p.m., the Poolside Grill offers a standard menu of tasty burgers, bratwursts and grilled chicken, with a full range of complement toppings including crisp bacon, sauteed onions, sliced red onions, tomatoes, lettuce and pickles. Veggie and turkey burgers are also available upon request. Salads, like chickpea and feta or potato, round out the options.

Constellation's upscale alternative restaurants are Qsine and Tuscan Grille , both open for dinner.

Tuscan Grille is a modern Italian steakhouse. The Deck 11 circular space features dark-wood wine cabinets atop faux stone walls, and the restaurant is divided into two sections by a large leather banquette. The $45 per-head dinner is a multi-course affair. Favorites include the antipasti plate (with cheese, olives and marinated squash), fried calamari, bruschetta with tapenade and goat cheese, arugula salad with pine nuts and goat cheese, tender and juicy rib-eye steak with a pecorino mac 'n' cheese and meal-ending gelato. The steak portions are huge for most eaters, and the chef will reduce the portion as you request. Come hungry, otherwise you'll be stuffed when the dessert plate arrives.

The Tuscan Grille is also open a few times per cruise on an irregular basis, usually on a sea day from noon to 1:30 p.m. The fee is $20 and the menu features items from the dinner menu including a pasta, steak and veal chops.

Foodies, as well as those looking for an exclusive dining experience, should sign up for the little-publicized Chef's Table dinner, which features plentiful servings of some of the best food and wine on the ship. The availability of these dinners varies by cruise and passenger demand. Sometimes, they are mentioned in the daily newsletter; otherwise, it's best to inquire at reception. The fee tends to be pricier than similar offerings on other cruise lines; you'll need to inquire about the exact cost once onboard. If you're really into food and wine, you'll likely enjoy this three-hour-plus feast with great free-flowing super-premium wine and the opportunity to chat with other cruisers, senior officers and the executive chef. It's a meal to remember.

The Blu restaurant is the sophisticated white-table-clothed dining venue touting "clean cuisine” and available only to AquaClass passengers. (Certain suite passengers can get a table, based on availability.) The dining spot is open for breakfast 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. and dinner 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Although there's a preconception by many passengers that the menu is full of flavorless vegan-type dishes in small portions, the reality is that the chefs strive to prepare popular dishes that are palate pleasing and reasonably good for you. For instance, they serve a steak with tasty truffle vinaigrette instead of a rich caloric bearnaise sauce. Breakfast includes the standard comfort foods like pancakes, waffles and French toast as well as eggs cooked to order -- of course you can order yogurt and a fruit plate as well. A typical dinner menu would start with appetizers like braised beef short ribs with chive pancakes, crispy corn fritters or mussel ceviche followed by a soup or salad course of New England clam chowder, Caesar salad or Waldorf Salad. Entrees include manicotti stuffed with ground veal, chorizo and beef, roasted wild Cornish game hen, and prime rib.

For health-conscious cruisers looking for some balance, Constellation has the AquaSpa Cafe, which is located within the glass-and-steel-covered solarium area and is very popular with the bathrobed gym-and-spa crowd for breakfast and lunch. The venue is a smallish stainless steel buffet lunch counter, featuring SPE-certified lighter fare, including low-calorie soups, low-fat entrees and sugar-free desserts formulated with no compromise in taste. Breakfast items include yogurts, fruit plates and whole-grained cereals. Grab-and-go items on offer include sushi (vegetable rolls), grilled chicken, poached shrimp with avocado slices, wholegrain breads, a salad with a selection of light vinaigrettes, a daily hot or cold soup (melon with ginger) and poached fruit bar. There is no cost for most items, although there is a fee for certain desserts and smoothies. The smell of chlorine hangs heavy at times in the misty air, so many diners opt to take their goodies out to the main pool area. AquaSpa Cafe hours are 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from noon to 2 p.m.

Sushi on Five, the  a la carte sushi bar hidden away on Deck 5, is the spot to grab a roll or Asian entree for lunch or dinner.

If you're a Starbucks fan, you'll love Cafe al Bacio and the Gelateria located on Deck 5. Coffee drink prices at Cafe al Bacio are around $4 for a cappuccino and other specialty coffees, but you can fill up free on the delicious assorted pastries, mini-sandwiches, cookies and cakes only available here. It's open from 6:30 a.m. until midnight. Passengers eagerly await servings of some of the best desserts onboard, including the lemon tart, cheesecake and the cream-layered coconut cake. During lunch hours, there are savory options like small ham and turkey sandwiches and salmon mousse tarts. Adjacent high-backed chairs with porthole ocean views are much in demand by cruisers looking to relax with a coffee and book. Across the way at the Gelateria, gelato costs $3 for a single scoop and $4 for a double. (Sprinkles, crushed nuts, M&M's and other toppings are included in the cost.) There is a free ice cream station in the Oceanview Cafe, but their not-so-creamy offerings paled to the gelato here.

Room service is available 24 hours a day. You can order items, including a tomato, cheese and avocado quesadilla or a turkey club, using the interactive TV. Between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m., there's a $3.95 charge for passengers in interior, oceanview and balcony staterooms. Breakfast can be ordered in advance via a door-hung ticket or the interactive TV the day before.

How does Select Dining work on Celebrity

We prefer Select Dining or Anytime Dining.

We have used it on both Holland America an Princess but not celebrity.

Are you allowed to show up between certain times like between 6:00 to 9:00 and be seated?

Are you seated with other passengers?  this is something we prefer.  We enjoy meeting other people.

We will be on the eclipse and usually prefer eating between 6:30 to 7:30.

You can either just show up and if tables are not available they will give you a beeper so you can enjoy a beverage while waiting.   Alternatively you can make a reservation for the time you desire.    There will be two lines at the entrance -  one for reservations and one for no reservations.

If you desire to dine with others you can let them know and they will try to combine with others that wish shared space.

Thanks

What type of cabin do you have? There are different assigned dining rooms, depending on your cabin class. If you re in a suite, you will be assigned to Luminae. If you are in Aqua Class, you are assigned to Blu. All other cabin types are in the main dining room (I forget the name of it on Eclipse!) Anyway, all offer Select Dining, but shared tables are generally only available for main dining room passengers.

You can turn up any time within the dining room opening hours. Sometimes you’ll be seated immediately. At peak times, you may have to wait: they’ll give you a buzzer so you can go to a bar nearby while you wait. The first two nights tend to be very busy. At peak times there can be a long queue to request a table and then a wait for the table as well. After that, it settles down and you can often get in immediately.

You can can request a table for two or a table with others. Often, if you request a table with others, you’ll get seated more quickly, as most people on Select Dining prefer not to share with strangers.

The tables for two are very close together, so you are effectively eating with others anyway. Sometimes your neighbours are willing to be sociable, sometimes not.

You can definitely share a table on the Eclipse. In fact the hostess will ask you if you wish to share.

I think cynbar meant that Luminae and Blu don’t have sharing tables.

Great Review

Note that you can make your reservations in advance in the cruise planner. We like to eat early and I've already booked 6pm reservations for our cruise coming up on 2/29.

And both do not have assigned dining times, they are all open or select.

On the cruises we have been on, they left a letter in our cabin telling us when the peak times were...so that you could avoid waiting. We ususally make reservations on line...  They try to seat you in the same area. You might call and see if you can request being seated at a larger table before the cruise. One observation. the service at smaller tables seems to go faster. We were once seated at a table for 8 or 10 and dinner took hours...vs about an hour. We often find ourselves talking with people sitting at the table next to ours... they are not far apart.

Agree with kearney, the tables are really close and we often chat with the neighbors. We've had good and bad experiences at larger tables. Sometimes you get sat with a group of 4 or 6 who are all traveling together and end up feeling like you crashed a party (and it does for sure take longer to get the food). Sometimes you get sat with another couple and get along great, sometimes the other couple wants to interrogate you on political topics or other argumentative issues. But sometimes we've had great conversations with other couples/groups also, it's a toss up. We like to eat in the MDR for lunch on sea days and have had good luck with interesting table conversation at those too.

gold1953

Yes, you can make reservations but there is a cut off for the # of people as they must leave a percent of tables open for those who show up for the 'open' time aspect. We ran into this on the Eclipse. The reservation allotment was filled and we were told to show up and get in line.   If you have a time you want for any nights then book early to avoid this issue

I sometimes question if reservations really help but I have dining times booked on all of my cruises through 2021.

Helpful, thanks. Did not consider there could be a long queue to make the request, never mind the wait for it to be filled.

I *know* it can vary a great deal but never having been on a ship this size I have no idea what is a typical time range for the queue and wait.

Say we wanted to be seated at 7:00 (so a peak'ish time). What would be a good time to show up to make the reservation?

Say we showed up at 6. Can we request 7:00 or is the request just for next available?

Bottom line is what time should we show up to get a 7:00 table?

How long for the queue to make the reservation. Is it worth even mentioning like 5 minutes or could it be say 15+.

And (whew), we are travelling with another couple, does someone from each cabin have to be at the reservation desk or could I make  the reservation for all four of us (both cabin)

I realize every day and every sailing can be different and it will vary but any help will calm concerns in the group

has anyone gone on board, went to the MDR and picked out a seat for the week along with times/days

I'm very curious about this because we are in AQ Class for the first time on the Edge March 15 cruise.  Don't know much about Blu, or how it works, (i.e. open on embarkation day for lunch? Sharing tables? We don't mind that. Menu the same as MDR's? Breakfast menu?)  Any info appreciated.

Blu is not open for lunch on any day, including embarkation day.  I’ve never seen a Blu hostess asking if you want to share a table as in the MDR....  The menu is definitely not the same as the MDR.  Do a search for the menus...I haven’t eaten in Blu on Edge yet.

Thanks Helen.  I didn't think it was open for lunch on embarkation day, but someone told me it was, so I thought I'd check with others.  I have looked at menus, but I will check again for the Blu menu.
