If you’re in Honolulu, you’ve got to stop by our Honolulu Coffee Experience Center. Our flagship location is a 9,000 square foot coffee lover’s paradise. Since the Experience Center opened in 2015, we’ve welcomed both tourists and locals into our home for some of the best coffee in the world. 

The Experience Center was built with the goal of bringing our community the full farm-to-roast -to-cup coffee experience. Today, thousands of visitors come every year to witness our roasting process, taste test our most recent brews, enjoy our bakery and café foods, and browse through our gift shop. 

Our Kona Coffee Process

Here at Honolulu Coffee, we are proud to farm and produce some of the highest quality Kona coffee in the world. Our Kona beans are locally grown on the beautiful slopes of the Mauna Loa Volcano, located on the Big Island of Hawaii. Once the cultivation process has concluded, the beans are ready for our handcrafted roasting process. Highlighted by the use of the celebrated and rare 1944 Probat UG22 iron-cast roaster, our Kona beans are roasted by our experienced and passionate roasting team to bring out the natural fruit flavors that our coffee is known for.

So where should you smoke weed in Amsterdam? Here are 17 of Amsterdam’s best coffeeshops where I’d recommend getting high.

No one’s rushing around fussing the little things, and simplicity is the name of the game. Coffee is coffee, the juice is juice, and Strawberry Kush is Strawbe — wait, Strawberry Kush?

That’s right, Katsu has some of the best strains, the prices are reasonable for the quantity, and the atmosphere is nothing like the crowds of some tourist hotspots.

If you ask me, this Amsterdam Coffeeshop’s position right near Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam is fitting because it has some world-class weed on offer.

Friendly staff are on hand at all times in the Great Gatsby-style wood and gold interior, serving up high-grade weed at some incredibly low prices. This is quality for money, on tap. ✅

I highly recommend trying out their hash — it’s some of the best in Amsterdam. Prima!

📍 Where to find it: Achillesstraat 104, 1076 RH Amsterdam

Imagine sitting on an Amsterdam terrace with incredible views of Amsterdam’s largest lake in front of you, taking a puff of some legit weed. Where can you experience it? Coffeeshop Sensemillia Osdorp, natuurlijk !

On the second floor of a building right on Osdorp Lake, this is a local’s coffeeshop through and through. Operating since 1981, this Amsterdam coffeeshop is downright charming, the staff are helpful, and the prices are easy on the wallet.

Even better? If you get hungry, there’s a delicious Thai restaurant nearby! Who knew Pad Thai and Amnesia Haze were such a great combination? 🍜

Keep in mind that there are two Coffeeshop Sensemillia locations, but Osdorp is the one with the to-die-for views.

If you’re making a list right now, then you better just add this one straight on.

Let’s say you have a Sunday to spare and the afternoon is dragging out. It’s 1 PM but it feels like 5 PM, well since you’re not otherwise encumbered — a visit to Easy Times could reinvigorate your day.

A great experience if this is your first time smoking, and you’ve escaped to Amsterdam   to try it. The staff are patient with everyone and help you make an informed decision.

This coffeeshop has also won prizes for its quality products, like second place in the 2022 HighLife Cup for its Amnesia G13 strain and Best Hash in 2020.

I love this coffeeshop because you’re never ripped off. In fact, the staff are likely to weigh out a little extra on the scales (and confirm with you that you want it, of course).

Uniquely, this coffeeshop offers pre-rolled joints with Moonrocks inside. If you haven’t tried Moonrocks, strap in: they’re cannabis buds that have been smothered in hash oil and rolled in kief. Let’s just say they’ll have you rocketing off, well, to the moon! 🚀

With a name like Coffeeshop Siberië, you might be expecting a cold, unwelcoming place: but boy, is this Amsterdam coffeeshop the opposite.

In fact, Coffeeshop Siberië feels more like a coffee shop than a “coffeeshop.” It features local art that rotates monthly, a gezellig (cosy) vibe, wooden floors and tables, double doors that are flung open in Amsterdam’s summer to watch the canal boats float by, and — best of all — trained baristas that can whip up a delicious latte or brew tea on command.

Amsterdam coined the term “coffeeshops” for its weed stores back in 1972, when a cafe called Mellow Yellow (and a few others) began to secretly sell hash and weed. When the city found it was difficult to stop the cafes selling it, they decided to support them instead.

Today, coffeeshops can apply for a license and must follow strict rules. Now the Netherlands’ policy of “tolerance” of cannabis products is famous worldwide, and people come from all over to visit Amsterdam’s coffeeshops.

Coffeeshop vs Coffeehouse: What’s the Difference?

If you’re just looking for a cup of coffee, chances are that you won’t have much trouble, because both coffee shops and coffee houses (koffiehuis) sell the delicious drink, as well as cafes!

However, visitors who want to partake in some cannabis will need to specifically find one of the many Amsterdam coffee shops, as they are the only locations that allow this activity.

Here are a few other details you might want to consider before heading out to a coffee shop.

Why do they call it a coffee shop in Amsterdam?

They do actually sell coffee at these shops, but the reason this specific name was chosen is that it was used as a cover before the legal policy on cannabis had been clarified. 

Even though it has been decades since the policy was changed, the cover name for these locations remained the same. 

Do Amsterdam cafes sell cannabis?

As if it weren’t confusing enough, there are also a lot of cafes in Amsterdam.

These quaint little restaurants do not offer cannabis. Instead, they focus primarily on coffee, juice, pastries, and other small snacks.

Can tourists visit an Amsterdam coffee shop?

Yes, of course!

Although there have been recent calls to make coffeeshops limits off-limits for tourists, no such measures have been put into place just yet.

Do Amsterdam coffee shops accept credit cards?

Most coffee shops in this city do not accept foreign credit cards, so you’ll need to bring cash if you want to visit.

Are Amsterdam coffee shops open all year round?

For the most part, yes.

That said, some will close for holidays, so you might have to look around for an open location on specific days of celebration such as Christmas.

Is Cannabis Actually Legal in Amsterdam?

Technically, it is not actually legal in the Netherlands.

That said, as long as you get it from a licensed coffee shop, possession of cannabis is permitted thanks to a legal grey area. 

If you want to avoid getting in trouble, all you really have to do is stick to the licensed coffee shops, as they will ensure that your possession and use of cannabis is fully legal.

The law requires them to follow a specific set of regulations, including the following:

• 5 grams or less: Amsterdam coffee shops are not allowed to sell more than 5 grams of cannabis to anyone in one day. 
• No advertisement: Coffeeshops are not allowed to advertise that they sell cannabis.
• Age restrictions: Coffeeshops are not allowed to sell cannabis to minors under the age of 18.
• No hard drugs: Cannabis is pretty much the only major drug they are allowed to sell.

For those who are still nervous, here are a few extra tips to consider:

• Start slow: Don’t get out of control - if you’re new to cannabis, it probably won’t take a lot to feel the effects.
• Ask the experts: If you’re going to visit a coffee shop, you can trust that the people working there probably have the answers to any questions you might have.
• Visit multiple locations: If you’re not comfortable at one coffee shop, just head to another one!
• Don’t take it to the airport: You won’t be allowed to take cannabis back onto an airplane, so there’s no point in buying a lot of it, which is another reason not to get carried away.

TIP: As recently as 2022, there have been calls to limit the sale of cannabis at coffee shops to only locals and residents of the city. The stated reason for this is that the city believes it attracts the wrong type of tourist. 

If you want to help keep this fun activity legal and safe in Amsterdam, please be courteous and try not to cause a disturbance while in or around coffee shops, as it may send the wrong message.

No matter which shops you choose, you can usually expect them to have a variety of both indica and sativa strains to choose from, pre-rolled joints, edibles such as space cakes or soda, and more on their menu.

1. Bulldog Coffeeshop

This is actually the first coffee shop in Amsterdam, so it’s definitely a great place to start if you’re looking for a location with history.

Another nice thing about this shop is that it’s centrally located. 

They even have a hotel right next to the canal, and that might be a better option for anyone who wants to have easy access to marijuana/cannabis within a few minutes walk from their hotel room.

If you’re looking for a different kind of vibe, this spot is known for having very unique and creative interior design.

One of the nicest things about this shop is that they offer free internet and are friendly to tourists. 

They also have longer opening hours than other locations, staying open until 1 am each night.

3. Grey Area

Oude Leliestraat 2, 1015 AW Amsterdam

Speaking of that legal grey area that allows Amsterdam coffee shops to sell cannabis, this is another great location you might want to visit. 

Many consider them to have the best weed in the city, and it’s especially popular among Americans.

Famous visitors like Snoop Dogg, Bush, the Deftones, and more are just another reason why this is a favorite for many visitors.

4. Original Dampkring

This is a great option for anyone who is new to cannabis, as they cater to international audiences. 

If you’re a movie buff, you might want to visit just to see where the cast of Ocean’s 12 spent time while shooting in Amsterdam.

Like Abraxas, they are also open until 1 am each night.

5. Barney’s Coffeeshop

If you’re looking for some of the best marijuana in Amsterdam, Barney’s has won multiple awards for their weed.

They’re welcoming to both locals and tourists, and they also sell a variety of food as well. 

As a matter of fact, they’re almost like a small restaurant, offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner options.

The atmosphere here is relaxed, so it’s a great place to grab a bite and some bud.

If, like everyone else, you're trying to figure out which coffeeshop is the best, here are some of the most popular locations recommended by locals and travelers.

Katsu is one of the locations most frequently noted on various Amsterdam Facebook groups.

A lot of locals consider it their favorite spot, but it's also frequently mentioned alongside a lot of the more popular coffeeshops, including some of the following.

New Times is another popular option, and you can even see it listed right alongside Katsu in an earlier comment.

Of course, that's not to say that some of the more well-known locations aren't also well-liked.

Abraxas, Bulldog, and Grey Area often receive special mentions in these Facebook groups, although they are usually considered more touristy.

Councillor calls for improved hygiene standards for Miri eateries

MIRI (April 15): The basic hygiene and sanitation of coffee shops here needs improvement to ensure the peace of mind of customers, said councillor Jeffery Phang.

He said this after leading the weekly walkabout of the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Senadin Service Centre’s Mobile Service 2U programme here yesterday.

“As a councillor and party representative, it is important to take proactive roles and identify the public’s needs rather than remain reactive to complaints.

“By doing that we can do a better job in serving the people,” Phang told The Borneo Post.

He was joined in the inspection of coffee shops here by fellow councillors Kueh Chie Tiong, Toh Kah Shiong and Ernest Goh.

They also checked on food safety and overall environment quality at the premises.

“The eateries we patronised are still satisfactory but can improve for better services overall,” Phang added.

He also chaired a meet-the-people session on behalf of state Transport Minister cum Senadin assemblyman Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin to engage with the public and obtain feedback on various issues.

He said the various issues raised will be brought to the attention of the relevant departments and agencies.

Phang also took the opportunity to remind the public on the importance of health awareness and to stay hydrated, especially during the current hot weather.

Six people killed in stabbing attack at Sydney's Westfield Bondi Junction, offender shot dead by police officer

Six people have been killed in a knife attack at Westfield Bondi Junction shopping centre in Sydney's east.

The offender, who NSW Police believe to be a 40-year-old man, was shot dead at the scene by a senior officer.

Five of the victims — four women and a man — died at the busy centre on Saturday afternoon and another woman died from her injuries in hospital.

Eight others who were injured, including a nine-month-old child, remain in hospital and some are in a critical condition.

As the attack unfolded, some shoppers ran to find safety in stores while others fled the building and some confronted the armed man.

Warning: Some readers may find the following details of the attack, witness accounts and footage of the incident distressing. 

NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Anthony Cooke said authorities believed the man acted alone and there was no ongoing threat.

Police Commissioner Karen Webb said police believed they knew who the man was but he had not been formally identified.

She said the man was known to police and, while the motive was unclear, early indications suggested the attack was not related to terrorism.

"There's no suggestions anyone was targeted but that could change," she said.

Police said the man was in the shopping centre at about 3pm before leaving and then returning around 20 minutes later with a knife.

A police inspector, who was nearby, was directed towards the man by witnesses, and she shot him dead after the offender confronted her.

"She confronted the offender, who had moved by this stage to level five, as she continued to walk quickly behind him to catch up with him. He turned to face her, raised a knife," Assistant Commissioner Cooke said.

"She discharged a firearm and that person is now deceased."

Commissioner Webb said the officer was "doing well under the circumstances".

"She showed enormous courage and bravery … we just talked [and] she's OK, her family is OK. She's got everything she needs for the time being."

She said the officer would be formally interviewed on Sunday.

A NSW Ambulance spokesperson said the injured people were taken to a number of hospitals across Sydney.

The baby has undergone surgery at Sydney Children's Hospital at Randwick. Another victim was taken to St George Hospital and another to Royal North Shore Hospital.

Three people were taken to St Vincent's Hospital at Darlinghurst. Another two are at Royal Prince Alfred in Camperdown. 

Acting NSW Premier Penny Sharpe said the event was horrific and distressing for the whole state, particularly as it came at a time when people were doing ordinary things and enjoying the first day of the school holiday.  

"I'm personally distressed by this … This is not who we are, this is not the community that we live in," Ms Sharpe said.

"We hold in our hearts the families and the friends and those who have lost loved ones.

"We stand with those who are waiting to hear from those that have been injured."

She thanked the innocent bystanders who risked their lives to help others, particularly the police officer who stopped the offender.

Premier Chris Minns is in Tokyo on leave, but Ms Sharpe said he had been briefed and was part of a crisis cabinet meeting which would be looking at providing support to those affected.

"This is going to be difficult, it's going to be hard for days to come," she said.

"This is really just the beginning of the pain and the grief for so many people."

Federal police join response to attack

The shopping centre, where a crime scene has been established, will remain closed on Sunday.

A large number of emergency vehicles and personnel arrived at the scene, one of the biggest shopping precincts in the city, after receiving triple-0 calls.

Armed police could also be seen conducting a search of the rooftop car park.

Commissioner Reece Kershaw said the Australian Federal Police (AFP) would support NSW Police in the investigation of the attack.

"The AFP has deployed AFP members to the crime scene and we've offered our full specialist capabilities such as digital forensics," he said.

"It is too early to determine a motive and it would be unhelpful to speculate."

Commissioner Kershaw said he had also spoken to the NSW police commissioner and the director-general of ASIO.

"I want to thank NSW Police, emergency services and first responders and the community for their bravery in the face of this shocking incident," he said.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the attack was "beyond words or understanding".

"Australians will be shocked this evening," Mr Albanese said.

"This was a horrific act of violence, indiscriminately targeted at innocent people going about an ordinary Saturday doing their shopping."

The prime minister praised the bravery of the police officer who confronted and shot the offender.

"She is certainly a hero," he said.

Witnesses describe 'horrific experience'

As the attack unfolded and police responded, shoppers were evacuated from the centre.

ABC sound engineer Roi Huberman said he was inside a shop when he heard gunshots.

"And suddenly we heard a shot or maybe two shots and we didn't know what to do," he said.

"Then the very capable person in the store took us to the back where it can be locked.

"She then locked the store and then she let us through the back and now we are out."

Shopper Adriana was with her two daughters at a beauty store when they heard gunshots.

"All of a sudden the front doors were closed, and in a matter of seconds we heard some gunshots and got sent to the storage room at the back of the shop. There were about 30 or 40 people there," she said.

"Everyone was screaming, crying, trying to call their relatives. It was a horrific experience.

"There was a lot of screaming and people just screaming, 'Get out, get out, get out of the shopping centre.'"

Nearby salon owner Leanne Devine said she was alerted to the attack by "hundreds and hundreds of people" running out of the centre.

"It was absolutely horrific," she said.

"We're in shock mode. We're traumatised."
