FCM takes off in Aberdeen

FCM Travel Solutions’ specialist oil and gas division in Aberdeen has expanded into new premises and hired four extra staff after securing additional clients worth £18 million over the last year.

New business includes a three-year contract to provide full travel management services to KCA Deutag, one of the world’s leading drilling and engineering companies, which is headquartered in Aberdeen.  FCM’s office in Germany has also been appointed to look after KCA Deutag’s drilling rig and oilfield equipment manufacturer, Bentec GmBH, which is situated in Bad Bentheim, and FCm Norway is servicing the company’s operations in Bergen. 

FCm Travel Solutions, which has been operating in Aberdeen for over 10 years and has taken over two floors of parent company Flight Centre’s new flagship store in a Grade 2 listed building on Union Street.

In addition to KCA Deutag, FCm in Aberdeen already provides specialist local travel and logistics management services to some 70 clients in the energy and marine sector. The addition of the new recruits, means that a total of 25 staff work in small teams handling thousands of crewing movements per month, negotiating special marine fares,  securing competitive offshore fares and providing 24/7 emergency assistance.

“Growth in the oil and gas sector has led to a significant increase in demand for travel logistics and expert services from our existing clients, and also enabled us to win major new clients like KCA Deutag,” commented Jo Greenfield, UK general manager, FCm Travel Solutions.

“Travel budgets are definitely going up and the majority of companies we work with are up-trading. We are also seeing a number of local oil and gas companies in Aberdeen asking us to look at servicing in other markets such as Dubai, Singapore and the USA, so that they can create consistency across their travel programmes particularly in terms of compliance and duty of care,” she added.

Martin Davidson, senior purchaser, KCA Deutag commented: “We awarded the contract to FCm as they could competently deliver on all aspects of our proposal which included implementing an online booking tool in Aberdeen and Norway in a short period of time. We are now aiming to roll out the FCm agreement on a global basis and steps have been put in place to support this.

“As far as the tender response went, FCm’s competitive pricing model, experience in travel programme consolidation and innovative yet flexible approach to implementation were all viewed favourably by KCA Deutag.”

Therapy pets welcome

A client wanted to travel with their therapy dog which assists with performing DPT (deep pressure therapy) to relieve stress and anxiety. We dealt with the airline and a special services medical team to book a transatlantic flight with the dog, and have since had confirmation that this arrangement will stand for future flights.

Shelter from the storm

When dangerous storms approached the North Sea, our energy client had to rush its engineers off the rigs at short notice. Within 3 hours we secured over 120 hotel rooms locally, so they could all enjoy a safe and comfortable night’s sleep.

Travel management specialists opens Aberdeen office

Leeds-based travel management company, Traveleads has opened an office in Aberdeen.

Named in the top 40 Travel Management Company in the UK last year and led by UK Head of Sales, Sally Cassidy, the city centre office will be home to a new and experienced team committed to the North East as a result of rapid growth of 21% in 2017-18.  

The 47-year-old business, owned by Evans Property Group has adopted a company-wide aggressive growth strategy aiming to almost triple annual turnover from £40million to £100million in the next three years with projected growth from business acquisition and increased contract wins from the newly appointed, dynamic sales and business development team.

The company said that, as one of their main UK business hubs, the Aberdeen office reinforces Traveleads’ commitment to its already established client base which has seen a 65% increase in turnover as a direct result of the growing customer base in the North-East.

Pamela Yeoman and Gillian Watson, Area Sales Managers recently joined the sales team and will be based at the new Thistle Place office which will be the hub for current and prospective clients in the North-East.  With a growing client base, the team is expected to make a bigger mark in Aberdeen and are looking to welcome more members of staff, providing clients with a local point of contact, delivering a supportive, convenient and hands on travel management service.

Commenting on the recent announcement, Sally Cassidy, UK Head of Sales, said: “Today’s travel market is complex, competition is fierce, and it can be daunting for businesses when moving into a new area.  However, Aberdeen has been phenomenal for us. We have experienced significant growth in the region, and we anticipate this to increase as we further develop our team and surround ourselves with the most highly skilled professionals who are dedicated to the North-East.
