‘Structurally complete:’ Disney Cruise Line reaches milestone on Disney Treasure

PAPENBURG, Germany – Disney Cruise Line has announced a major milestone in the construction of its newest ship, the Disney Treasure .

On Thursday, the company announced on its blog that the stern of the ship is now in place.

With this major construction milestone done, the whole ship is now structurally complete and outfitting and interior work can now begin, the company explained.

The Disney Treasure is set to launch from Port Canaveral on Dec. 21, 2024.

The ship is currently under construction at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. The company said over the past several months, each section, or block, of the ship has been put in place. The last block of the ship will be home to exciting guest areas including the adults-only Quiet Cove and Hero Zone, a sports area for families.

Within the past month, Disney Cruise Line said the new cruise ship has received its forward and aft iconic funnels. Back in September, leaders announced some of the new experiences that will be onboard the ship including an all-new ‘Coco’ dining experience, a Moana inspired Broadway show and Jungle Cruise and Haunted Mansion inspired bars .

Just like its sister ship, the Disney Wish , the Disney Treasure will venture out on several sea trials following its completion in the shipyard in Germany. Once complete, the ship will officially be handed over to Disney Cruise Line.

The company said following its maiden voyage next year, the ship will embark on seven-night itineraries to the Eastern and Western Caribbean from Port Canaveral. The ship will also be among the first to make port at Disney’s newest private island, Lighthouse Point.

The Latest Disney Parks and Disney Cruise Line News Revealed at Destination D23 2023

This morning, Destination D23 kicked off with the panel “A Celebration of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” hosted by Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro, and quite a bit of news was revealed…and even more teased.

The panel went over an hour and was co-hosted by various Disney Imagineers as new lands and attractions at Disney parks around the globe were highlighted, along with the latest from Disney Cruise Line (DCL).

Also co-hosting were The Muppets, which I’m sure was due to the SAG-AFTRA strike prohibiting any actors from appearing to promote attractions based on their films. But I didn’t mind, because I LOVE The Muppets, and we got to see a lot of them from Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzy, and Gonzo to lesser seen characters like Uncle Deadly.

D’Amaro said during the presentation: ““Over the next decade, we’re going to have more projects underway than at any point in our history. Our sole purpose is to give you more and more of what you love about a Disney experience. And then surprise and delight you with things you never dreamed possible.”

So let’s go park by park and talk about what we Disney fans can expect in the near future at the parks and at the DCL.

After highlighting recent events, like the reopening of Mickey’s ToonTown at Disneyland, we got a video update on a new attraction coming to Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure.

First mentioned last year during D23 Expo 2022, this attraction is based on the Marvel “Multiverse Saga” also highlighted at last year’s event …and pretty much up in the air right now due to the strikes.

Anyways, the attraction will feature a “multi-world initiative” to defeat the big bad King Thanos (who is an alternate-reality variant of Thanos from Marvel Comics).

Brent Strong, executive creative director at Walt Disney Imagineering, shared an early peek at the ride vehicle featuring a design that “combines elements of Tony Stark’s time-suits with Xandarian jump points and Wakandan technology.”

No opening date was given for this attraction.

The bulk of the news released dealt with various developments at Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom. I guess Disney’s Hollywood Studios gets to sit this year out.

Let’s start with the OG Walt Disney World park, Magic Kingdom. Josh D’Amaro and Bruce Vaughn, Chief Creative Officer at Walt Disney Imagineering (who returned to Disney earlier this year), touched briefly on some “bluesky project” that will be happening at the park, “beyond Big Thunder Mountain.”

This project has been talked about before, and honestly other than showing the same images as last time, not much more was learned about this project than D’Amaro saying, “it will be the biggest thing they’ve ever done in park” “similar in scale to things like ‘Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge’ and ‘Pandora – The World of Avatar,’ adding new attractions, restaurants, shows and more,” and they’re “about to go into overdrive” on the project.

We also learned from Disney Imagineer Chris Beatty about the revamp of “ Country Bears Jamboree, ” which will find the Bears learning a variety of classic Disney songs performed in various country music styles. We then saw a clip of the musicians recording a country-fied version of “Bear Necessities.” No date was given for this new show to start.

Beatty said, “The Country Bear Jamboree will still have the fun and friendly tone fans enjoy with the same famous characters like the loveable Trixie, Big Al and others.”

Fozzy Bear also showed up to tell a few jokes: “How do the Country Bears catch fish? With their BEAR hands. wocka wocka” “What kind of bears don’t eat with their teeth? Gummy bears.”

We also got a look at the show’s new poster:

We actually have a date the Hatbox Ghost will make his appearance at the “Haunted Mansion”…sort of. Disney Imagineer Daniel Joseph came on stage to announce the ghost will be materializing in the Haunted Mansion as you pass the attraction’s Endless Hallway in late November.

Finally, a new Pirates of the Caribbean-themed lounge is coming to the attraction at Magic Kingdom, sure to serve up a variety of rum and more. No opening date was given, though The Barker Bird, a green macaw, will feature in the design.

Over at EPCOT, we have several bits of news reveal, including opening dates.

Teased for well over a year, Figment will FINALLY be making meet-and-greet appearances at the park starting tomorrow, September 10, at the Imagination Pavilion.

“ Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana ” will open to the public on October 16, 2023 (we’ll have passholder and DVC preview info later this weekend), and that is also the date that Moana herself will start doing meet-and-greets near her new attraction.

We got both a title and an opening date for the new nighttime spectacular that was also mentioned at D23 Expo 2022.

The show will be called “Luminous: The Symphony of Us” and it will open on December 5, 2023…which also happens to be Walt Disney’s 122nd birthday.

Partnering with Chevrolet, Disney will once again be revamping “Test Track” using inspiration from the original “World of Motion” attraction. We also got a peek at one of the ride vehicles. No date was given for the new version to start.

Finally, the last section of the park that has been revamped, World Celebration , will reopen in December 2023, including Dreamers Point.

World Celebration will unite the front of the park, tying together the other two new EPCOT neighborhoods, World Discovery and World Nature, and it will be the latest major milestone of the multi-year transformation of EPCOT.

Finally, let’s hop over to Disney’s Animal Kingdom for two news reveals.

First, “Zootopia” is coming to the park, but not as a land (boo!). Instead it will be a new show that will reside inside the Tree of Life in the Tree of Life theater. Guests will visit the different biomes in the film, traveling along with Judy Hopps, Nick Wilde and other characters.

And while it wasn’t said, it most likely it will replace “It’s Tough to be a Bug!,” since I can’t see the theater hosting two shows. No date was given for the opening of this new show, but ride “It’s Tough to be a Bug!” while you can. I wonder if this new show will get rid of all of those “bugs” in the seats. (If you know, you know.)

The revamp of Dinoland was also talked about and since the park already has Africa and Asia sections, Disney has decided the park needs a “Tropical Americas” section, which will replace Dinoland.

This new section will cover the northern part of South America, stretching up into Central America, and it was hinted “Encanto” and “Indiana Jones” could find a home here.

We got a look at an artist rendering of the reimagination of this area. I’m hoping that temple top right means a version of Disneyland’s “Indiana Jones Adventure” is coming to Walt Disney World.

Top left looks vaguely like Casa Madrigal, too.

Nothing more concrete was announced, and no opening date was even hinted at. So I guess TBA on all of this.

Disneyland Paris

In a pre-recorded video, Thomas Muller, scenographer at Walt Disney Imagineering Paris, guided viewers on the construction site of what will become the ultimate Disney royal address at Disneyland Paris, including a first glimpse of the Royal Banquet which will invite visitors to attend a royal feast amidst a gallery of portraits.

The Disneyland Hotel , located at the entrance to Disneyland Park, will reopen its doors in the first quarter of 2024

The video also looked at construction happening for the “Frozen” land coming to Walt Disney Studios Park.

Tokyo Disney Resort

The new Fantasy Springs opening at Tokyo Disney Resort in 2024 was spotlighted briefly.

This eighth themed port of Tokyo DisneySea will feature “Rapunzel’s Forest,” “Peter Pan’s Never Land” and “Frozen Kingdom” – all inspired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios Films.

No new news was added to what we learned last month , though we got a new artist rendering of the entire land:

Shanghai Disney Resort

D’Amaro touched on the upcoming Zootopia land coming to Shanghai Disney Resort, which we gave you details on earlier this week . No new news about it was released today.

Hong Kong Disneyland

Earlier this week, Disney announced the opening date of “ World of Frozen ” at Hong Kong Disneyland would be November 20, 2023, so during today’s presentation, a video of the new land at night was shown:

Multi-Parks

Several updates concerned attractions that were available in more than one park.

We got a look at a video showing the animatronics that will be going into “ Tiana’s Bayou ,” coming to Disneyland and Walt Disney World next year.

Asha, a new character from the upcoming Disney Animation film, “ Wish ,” will be coming to EPCOT, Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris. Dates weren’t given, but most likely will be timed to the film’s release on November 22, 2023.

Also, starting next Spring, “Star Wars” character Ahsoka will be added to the “Star Tours” attraction at parks across the globe.

Disney Cruise Line

Thomas Mazloum, president of Disney Signature Experiences, dropped two Disney Cruise Line news nuggets for fans during this presentation.

First, the ship that will sail from the new Singapore port of call ( announced earlier this year ), will be called the Disney Adventure. It was formerly the Global Dream , and was purchased earlier this year to be retrofitted Disney-style.

Second, the new Disney Cruise island port of call will be named Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, an extension of the soon-to-open Lighthouse Point in the Bahamas.

He said, “Disney teams are collaborating with talented artists and cultural advisors in the Bahamas to shape an experience that celebrates the natural beauty, traditions and artistry of the one-of-a-kind nation.”

And of course he touched on the Disney Treasure , which had its reveal earlier this week . No extra news revealed other than a photo of the ship and its Grand Hall under construction.

Mazloum then gave away a cruise on the Disney Treasure to a member of the audience. Congratulations Heather! Members of the audience were also given a commemorative map for the Disney Treasure.

Disney Cruise Line passenger rescued by US Coast Guard after emergency off Puerto Rico

Drone footage captured the moment a pregnant woman was airlifted from a Disney cruise ship by the U.S. Coast Guard on Monday.

A rescuer could be seen rappelling down from an MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter onto the Disney Fantasy, floating in the Atlantic Ocean northwest of Puerto Rico , in video shared by the Coast Guard. 

The 35-year-old woman was strapped to a gurney and reeled into the helicopter in the heart-pounding moment. The agency said the woman "required a higher level of medical care" than what on board doctors could provide in the ship's medical bay. 

US COAST GUARD, NAVY RESCUE 3 FISHERMEN FROM DESERTED ISLAND AFTER SPELLING 'HELP' WITH PALMS

"Coast Guard watchstanders in Sector San Juan received a communication from the Disney Fantasy Monday morning requesting medevac assistance as the cruise ship was transiting 260 nautical miles northwest of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico," the agency wrote in a press release.

"Once on scene, the Coast Guard Jayhawk aircrew deployed their rescue swimmer aboard the cruise ship, who prepared a rescue basket and litter to safely hoist the patient and cruise ship doctor aboard the aircraft," the Coast Guard said.

An HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft was also flown in from Air Station Miami for the rescue.

"We are glad everything came together to help this passenger," said Ensign Michael Riccio, Coast Guard Sector San Juan operations unit leader for the case. "The competency displayed by the Disney Fantasy crew and the Coast Guard personnel and units involved made all the difference."

The cruise had launched two days earlier from Port Canaveral, Florida, according to Cruise Hive .

The ship is currently sailing a seven-night itinerary in the Eastern Caribbean, visiting Tortola on Tuesday, and is scheduled to dock in St. Thomas on Wednesday and will visit Disney's private island Castaway Cay before returning to port, Cruise Hive reported.

Disney Cruise Line did not immediately return a request for comment.

Disney Cruise Line’s 25 th “Silver Anniversary at Sea” season kicks off today, and if you are planning to sail this summer, we wanted to round out everything you need to know before stepping aboard! While the Disney Wish’s anniversary sailings begin today, these offerings will be added to each ship throughout the coming weeks.

From a first look at the character ensembles to a celebratory song, new entertainment, merchandise, food and beverage offerings and a Castaway Club tier created for our most frequent cruisers, there are so many shimmering details we don’t want you to miss!

1 – New Looks for Characters

To celebrate the signature color of the celebration – Shimmering Seas – here’s a first look as all your favorite Disney friends join Captain Mickey Mouse and Captain Minnie Mouse with coordinated anniversary looks! While your favorite characters will don outfits that feature swirling designs reminiscent of ocean waves and multi-toned fabric, you can get in the action with your own shimmering ensemble. Don’t forget to tag #DCL25 on all your photos, and if you are uploading an Instagram story, search DCL25 for a few special shimmering stickers to add to your content!

Whether you’re sailing or not, you can celebrate the anniversary season with a brand-new melody! “Shimmering Seas,” a signature song created especially for the “Silver Anniversary at Sea,” celebrates 25 years of magic at sea in an upbeat tribute to Disney Cruise Line’s past, present and future. If you’re on board this summer, be sure to keep your ears peeled for this celebratory tune!

2 – Themed Food and Beverage

The “Silver Anniversary at Sea” won’t just be pleasing to the eyes and ears, it will be a celebration for your taste buds as well! Sweets treats made just for the season include a 25 th cupcake, a Mickey chocolate sphere, chocolate cream cookie, Captain Minnie crisped rice treat – and if that’s not enough, signature desserts in the family dining venues will be getting a tasty enhancement with a special 25 th chocolate piece to add to their already stunning presentation!

For those over 21, the signature Jubilee by the Sea cocktail – complete with sparkly, silver dusting and a shimmering blue sugar rim – will be available at select lounges, while a special anniversary Coca-Cola bottle, specialty coffee mug, 25 th anniversary beer mug and a “Silver Anniversary at Sea” popcorn bucket will provide dual use both on your cruise and as a special keepsake at home.

3 – New Entertainment

In 1998, Disney Cruise Line made history as the first cruise line ever to produce a fireworks show at sea, and these sparkling displays have remained a quintessential part of the Disney Cruise Line experience since. During most Bahamian, Caribbean and Mediterranean cruises this summer that are four nights and longer, the night skies will light up with a shimmering new show that will uphold the cherished Disney tradition of fireworks and honor Disney’s continuing legacy of adventure. The dazzling spectacle will be set to the tunes of iconic and beloved Disney music and will be anchored by the new signature song.

Also in honor of our “Silver Anniversary at Sea,” we are reimagining the time-honored tradition of a Captain’s Reception into the Shimmering Seas Soiree, a regal gathering with all the pomp and circumstance this milestone deserves. On one evening each cruise, guests will be invited to join their ship’s captain, cruise director and some favorite Disney friends in the atrium for a festive anniversary toast.

4 – Shimmering Touches

Throughout the 25 th  anniversary celebration, you will notice shimmering touches across all five ships, as well as special décor in Disney Cruise Line terminals and a limited-time look for Key to the World cards. On board, shimmering blue accents will adorn each ship’s atrium, while a special anniversary icon will provide the picture-perfect backdrop for a commemorative photo.

Speaking of picture-perfect, the celebratory season isn’t limited to just the high seas! Castaway Cay, Disney Cruise Line’s private island in The Bahamas, is also celebrating 25 years and will be decked out with anniversary decorations, along with a special surprise shimmering makeover to Mount Rustmore, a guest-favorite photo spot.

5 – Themed Merchandise

The Shimmering Seas collection features light blue colorways and sparkling fabrics that are reminiscent of sunshine reflecting upon turquoise waters, along with festive silver accents. Shimmering accessories include a new Loungefly backpack and ear headband, new clothing pieces – including a spirit jersey and embroidered Nike polo – and a new line of commemorative jewelry. 2024 Preview: Disney Cruise Line

Disney Cruise Line is set for another strong year in 2024, with the debut of a new ship, a new private destination and several deployment and fleet developments.

Cruise Industry News looks into the most anticipated events set to take place for the company in the new year.

Disney Treasure to Debut in December

The new Disney Treasure is set to enter service in late 2024. A sister to the 2022-built Disney Wish, the LNG-powered vessel is currently under construction at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany.

Starting in late December, the Treasure offers a series of seven-night cruises to the Caribbean departing from Port Canaveral on a year-round basis.

Full Year Out of Port Everglades

After introducing Port Everglades as a new homeport in 2023 , Disney Cruise Line is set to offer its first year-round program from its new South Florida cruise terminal.

While the Disney Dream is scheduled to sail from Port Everglades during the 2023-24 and the 2024-25 winter seasons, the Disney Magic is poised to offer summer itineraries from the homeport.

Lighthouse Point to Open for Guests in Summer

During 2024, Disney Cruise Line is expected to share more details of its plans for the all-new Disney Adventure. Acquired by the company while still under construction in 2022 , the unfinished cruise ship was originally ordered by Asia-based Dream Cruises as the Global Dream.

Presently being rebuilt for service in Southeast Asia , the 6,000-guest vessel will become the largest in Disney’s fleet and is expected to introduce several new features and attractions.

Dream in Drydock

The Disney Dream is set to undergo a drydock in 2024. While no details about the shipyard stay have been revealed by Disney Cruise Line, work could include updates to public areas and cabins.

Scheduled to take place between mid-September and late October, the three-week drydock will be carried out after the ship’s summer program in Europe.

Pregnant Disney Cruise Passenger Airlifted Off Ship by U.S. Coast Guard: See Video

The 'Disney Fantasy' was 180 miles out at sea when Coast Guard members responded to a medical emergency involving the 35-year-old patient

A pregnant passenger aboard the Disney Fantasy was airlifted from the ship after experiencing health complications on April 15. 

The Disney Cruise Line vessel was 180 miles northwest of Puerto Rico in the Atlantic Ocean when the passenger “required a higher level of medical care ashore,” according to an April 16 press release from the U.S. Coast Guard. 

A video of the incident shows the Coast Guard MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter aircrew executing a medevac in order to transport the patient safely to land by helicopter. 

In the harrowing clip, an aircrew member gets lowered by rope onto the ship and at least seven crew members are seen carrying the woman on a stretcher. Per the release, the aircrew’s rescue swimmer then “prepared a rescue basket and litter to safely hoist the patient and cruise ship doctor aboard the aircraft.”

United States Coast Guard

The patient was met by local emergency medical responders at the Fernando Luis Ribas Dominicci Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She was then transported to the local Centro Medico Hospital.

According to the release, Coast Guard members first got the call that there was a medical emergency aboard the ship on the morning of Monday, April 15. 

“Watchstanders in Sector San Juan received a communication from the Disney Fantasy Monday morning requesting medevac assistance as the cruise ship was transiting 260 nautical miles northwest of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico,” according to the release. 

Lt. Cmdr. Todd Stephens stated in the release: “Our crew was able to quickly, safely, and efficiently execute a long-range MEDEVAC for the patient to receive the higher level of care she required. This case demonstrates the value of good crew resource management and the capabilities of our Jayhawk helicopter.”

Disney Cruise Line did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Dramatic video captured the moment a pregnant woman suffering medical complications was airlifted from a Disney cruise ship.

Footage posted by the US Coast Guard shows a rescuer being lowered onto the Disney Fantasy on Monday in the Atlantic Ocean, about 180 miles northwest of Puerto Rico.

The 35-year-old woman, whose identity was not released, is then seen being raised by a Coast Guard MH-60T Jayhawk chopper to be flown to a hospital.

“Coast Guard watchstanders in Sector San Juan received a communication from the Disney Fantasy Monday morning requesting medevac assistance as the cruise ship was transiting 260 nautical miles northwest of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico,” the agency said.

The Coast Guard also deployed an HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft from Air Station Miami to rendezvous with the cruise ship.

“Once on scene, the Coast Guard Jayhawk aircrew deployed their rescue swimmer aboard the cruise ship, who prepared a rescue basket and litter to safely hoist the patient and cruise ship doctor aboard the aircraft,” the Coast Guard said.

The woman was transported to the Fernando Luis Ribas Dominicci Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where she was treated at Centro Medico Hospital, officials said.

“Our crew was able to quickly, safely, and efficiently execute a long-range MEDEVAC for the patient to receive the higher level of care she required,” Lt. Cmdr. Todd Stephens said in a statement. “This case demonstrates the value of good crew resource management and the capabilities of our Jayhawk helicopter.”

Ensign Michael Riccio, Coast Guard Sector San Juan operations unit leader, said his crew was “glad everything came together to help this passenger.

“The competency displayed by the Disney Fantasy crew and the Coast Guard personnel and units involved made all the difference,” he said.

It was unclear if the woman’s emergency was related to her pregnancy.

The Post has reached out to Disney Cruise Line for comment.

According to the company’s frequently asked questions , women must be no more than 23 weeks pregnant in order to set sail. If they enter the 24th week of pregnancy during the sailing, “they will be refused passage due to safety concerns.”

The chopper was dispatched from Miami on Monday after the 35-year-old woman experienced unspecified health complications and required more advanced care than what was available onboard the Disney Fantasy ship .

The vessel was about 180 miles northwest of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico when the rescue call was made by the ship’s crew.

The woman and the ship’s doctor were hoisted aboard the aircraft and flew to Fernando Luis Ribas Dominicci Airport in San Juan before she was taken to a hospital.

“We are glad everything came together to help this passenger,” Ensign Michael Riccio, Coast Guard Sector San Juan operations unit leader, said in a news release Tuesday. “The competency displayed by the Disney Fantasy crew and the Coast Guard personnel and units involved made all the difference.”

“Our crew was able to quickly, safely, and efficiently execute a long-range MEDEVAC for the patient to receive the higher level of care she required,” Lt. Cmdr. I only book a Disney cruise if it's going to the company's private island, Castaway Cay

• I've taken eight Disney cruises, and I always book a sailing that stops at  Castaway Cay .
• Castaway Cay is the company's private island and I love its adults-only beach area.
• You can buy exclusive merch on the island and see Disney characters in special themed costumes.

Cruise bookings are predicted to reach record highs this year, but not all itineraries are created equally — especially if you're looking to sail with Disney Cruise Line.

Over the past decade, I've taken eight Disney cruises with my family and friends. When I book, I always make sure Disney's private island in the Bahamas, Castaway Cay, is on the port of call.

Here's why you might want to do the same.

I love that the ship docks right at the island, so there are no tender ships involved

One of the biggest perks of Castaway Cay is that the ship docks right at the island.

Some other cruise line's private islands, like Norwegian's Great Stirrup Cay, don't have a dock, so cruisers must take tender ships (small boats) from the cruise ship to the island.

I hate taking tender ships, which can feel like a bit of a time sink, so this is a big bonus to me.

Getting around the island is easy with the complimentary tram

Castaway Cay is about 1,000 acres — though not all of it's developed — so it can take a while to talk to and from the ship to different spots on the island.

Fortunately, the island has a complimentary tram that I always use to get around the island.

The tram takes cruisers from a station near the ship to two other tram stops for the family beaches, and one tram stop at the adults-only beach .

This makes getting around the island with all of my beach gear easy.

Speaking of gear, at Castaway Cay, cruisegoers can borrow free towels as soon as they get off of the ship. There are plenty of towel-return stations around the island, so I also never have to carry wet, sandy towels back on the ship.

I always stop to see the Disney characters in their cute beachwear

I enjoy seeing the Disney characters on the ship, but love seeing Mickey and his pals even more at Castaway Cay.

Characters usually meet in the morning from around 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., but exact times can always be found on the Disney Cruise Line app.

The best part about seeing the characters is that the lines to take pictures with them are never long. On a recent sailing, I saw Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, and Pluto all in 30 minutes. That would never happen in a Disney park.

And if you're a fellow character hunter like me, Mickey and the gang all have Castaway Cay exclusive outfits, which are adorable and make for great family photos.

I always take advantage of every chance to hang out at the adults-only beach

One thing I love about Disney Cruise Line and Castaway Cay is that there are plenty of adults-only spaces where kids are strictly not allowed. On the island, that spot is Serenity Bay Beach.

This peaceful chair-lined beach is a quiet spot away from the family beach, where I can sit back and enjoy the view or take a chair down to the water and let the waves crash over me.

Plus, just off Serenity Bay Beach is a fun beachside bar serving up drinks and snacks.

There's also the adults-only lunch spot where I always enjoy a beachside barbecue. My favorite things on the lunch menu are the ribs and macaroni salad .

Before returning to the ship, I send a postcard from the island and check out the special merchandise

I always make a point to stop in at the various shops near the family beach to see the Castaway Cay merchandise. On a recent trip, the shops had everything from spirit jerseys and T-shirts to Christmas ornaments and swimsuits.

And, before I head back to the ship, I stop at the Castaway Cay post office to send postcards back home.

The postcards I use can be found in the desk drawer of Disney Cruise Line staterooms, and are free to take. If you don't want to send the cute postcards off, you can also keep them as souvenirs.

Pregnant woman airlifted from Disney cruise ship

The woman was taken to a hospital in Puerto Rico where she received treatment.

The US Coast Guard has released dramatic footage of the moment a pregnant woman was airlifted from a Disney cruise ship after suffering "health complications".

A MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter was filmed landing on the bow of the Disney Fantasy ship that was sailing 180 miles northwest of Aguadilla in Puerto Rico .

The coastguard said in a statement: "The medevac patient was a 35-year-old pregnant woman, US citizen, who experienced health complications and required a higher level of medical care ashore."

In a video shared on social media, a member of the helicopter crew is seen attaching the stretcher to a rope which is then hoisted, lifting the passenger into the aircraft.

The pregnant passenger was taken to Fernando Luis Ribas Dominicci Airport in San Juan, where emergency service personnel were waiting, the US Coast Guard said.

She was later transported to the Centro Medico Hospital to receive treatment.

"Our crew was able to quickly, safely, and efficiently execute a long-range medevac for the patient to receive the higher level of care she required," Lieutenant Commander Todd Stephens said.

"This case demonstrates the value of good crew resource management and the capabilities of our Jayhawk helicopter."

Ensign Michael Riccio, the coastguard's leader for the case, added: "We are glad everything came together to help this passenger."

He added: "The competency displayed by the Disney Fantasy crew and the coastguard personnel and units involved made all the difference."

The Disney Cruise Line is a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company.

It operates five ships that sail across the globe, stopping at destinations in Europe, Australia, Alaska and the Bahamas - including the company's own private island Castaway Cay.

Video footage shows the pregnant woman being airlifted from the Disney cruise ship.

The US Coast Guard shared video footage via X of a rescuer being lowered onto the Disney Fantasy on Monday, April 15. A pregnant woman on a stretcher was then airlifted from the cruise ship onto a Coast Guard MH-60T Jayhawk chopper, per a news release . The rescue happened in the Atlantic Ocean, roughly 180 miles northwest of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico.

The Coast Guard offered further details of the rescue.

“Coast Guard watchstanders in Sector San Juan received a communication from the Disney Fantasy Monday morning requesting medevac assistance as the cruise ship was transiting 260 nautical miles northwest of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico,” the news release detailed. Additionally, the Coast Guard deployed an HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft from Air Station Miami to "rendezvous with the cruise ship."

Ultimately, the woman was transported to a hospital.

After successfully airlifting the pregnant patient, the Coast Guard aircrew transported her to the Fernando Luis Ribas Dominicci Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She was then transported by local EMS to a hospital.

“Our crew was able to quickly, safely, and efficiently execute a long-range MEDEVAC for the patient to receive the higher level of care she required,” Lt. Cmdr. Todd Stephens said in a statement in the news release. “This case demonstrates the value of good crew resource management and the capabilities of our Jayhawk helicopter.”

The Coast Guard Sector San Juan operations unit leader also praised those who made the rescue a success.

Ensign Michael Riccio, the Coast Guard Sector San Juan operations unit leader, praised the combined efforts of the agency and the Disney cruise crew. Riccio said his team was “glad everything came together to help this passenger."

What is Disney Cruise Lines' pregnancy policy?

It's unclear if the woman's medical emergency was pregnancy-related. However, per Disney Cruise Lines' FAQ , women must be no further along than 23 weeks in order to sail. Additionally, women cannot enter week 24 during the cruise, or else they will "be refused passage due to safety concerns."
