food tours in bangkok

The sights, sounds, smells and tastes of Bangkok are a mix you can’t find anywhere else in the world. It’s a place that’ll set all your senses on fire (literally – the food is mega spicy in Thailand!) That’s why this country is home to some of the world’s best food tours in Bangkok.

For me, it’s the contradictions and contrasts that make Bangkok such an amazing place to visit. I could go from discovering something yummy in a 7-Eleven to munching on a cheap £1 plate of pad Thai on the streets to a sumptuous fine-dining feast with the best views of the city all in a few hours. There aren’t not many places where you can do all of that in a day.

Add in beautiful temples, a bustling nightlife that can rival any and the smiliest people you’ll ever meet and you got the perfect ingredients for one of my favourite cities.

And as you’ll quickly learn from the moment you arrive here, the food really is incredible. You really can’t beat Thai food straight from the source.

Planning a trip to Bangkok? Then check out my guides to the best hotels in Bangkok , what to eat when you’re in the city, and how to celebrate Songkran water festival in Thailand. These guides are packed full of advice and information.

Foodie experiences in Bangkok

From a Bangkok Midnight Food Tour to a trip to the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, there’s an intense mix of flavors in Thailand – spicy, sweet, salty, sour.

Influences have flooded in from all corners of the globe making Bangkok one of the best dining destinations in the world. It’s just so diverse and I love all the food on offer here – even the offal.

Also, it’s generally very cheap to eat in Bangkok, so you can get a lot of bang for your buck. The street food isn’t just cheap, it’s quality too. Think £2 for a bowl of Michelin-starred noodles (yes, this is actually a thing here!)

Personally, I think the best way of getting to know the city is on a food tour. Then you get to see all the city has to offer while trying some local delicacies along the way. And let me say this: you’re in for a treat because there are some amazing food tours to choose from.

If you want to eat your way through the city while getting to know the history and the culture, then these are the best Bangkok food tours for you. Go on any of these tours below and you’re in for an amazing time!

Best Food Tours in Bangkok

1. cooking with poo – cooking class in bangkok.

market food tour thailand

It’s not often you can say this but I loved cooking with Poo!

Poo has become a bit of a legend in Bangkok. She started from very small beginnings in the backstreets of one of the poorer districts of Bangkok. Learning to cook from her mum, people started flocking to her for her delicious food. These days, almost from nothing, she has built one of the best cooking schools in the city.

This cooking class starts off at 8:30am in the Klong Toey wet market. This is where you’ll pick up your ingredients to cook with for the day. What I loved about this was you actually learned about all the different ingredients straight from the source. Also, it really gives you a connection to the local community too.

From the market we then made our way to Poo’s cooking school. In the small intimate setting of her home, we learned how to make a spicy beef salad, pad Thai and a delicious green curry. It’s easy to say this, but it was genuinely some of the best food I had in Thailand. Everything was so simple to make and so delicious too. It really teaches you about Thai food and flavours. Oh, and every day there’s a different menu too so you can keep on coming back to learn new dishes!

One of the best things about cooking with Poo is a lot of the money goes back into the local community, so you’re actually helping the people living around Poo too.

I really do think this is one of the best Bangkok food tours and I can’t recommend it enough!

Cost: £36/$47 per person. You can find out more about this food tour here .

2. Expique’s Evening Food & Tuk Tuk Adventure

expique food tour

This is another Thailand food tour you just have to do while you’re in the capital.

On this food tour you’ll explore the city in your own little tuk tuk (don’t worry, you have a driver too.) This means you can get to those little places that no one else knows about.

What I loved about this tour was we really went off the beaten path. Our first stop was at a tiny food market followed by a tasty hot pot on the streets surrounded by locals. From them on it was a flavour odyssey as we tried anything and everything under city’s lights.

On this Bangkok street food tour you’ll be like a local visiting the most known landmarks like the Old Town temples and the flower markets all with one major difference – it’s without the crowds that you find on usual tours.

Also, our guide Lek was brilliant at explaining everything we were eating. We even got to try a few interesting things like bugs and tripe. It really shows you what the local delicacies are in Bangkok.

I lost count of how many stops and dishes we tried on this food tour. I think we tried well over 10 different dishes so it really is amazing value for money. Also, your tuk tuk driver will drop you off at your hotel at night afterwards too. Bonus! This really is a Bangkok tuk tuk night food tour like no other.

Expique also offer some of their own cooking courses too that I’ve only heard great things about. These are cooking classes with a twist so well worth checking out.

Cost: £57/$74per adult, £28/$37per child (aged 5-11). You can find out more about this food tour here .

3. Local’s Favorite Dishes: Secret Food Tour of Bangkok

thailand food tours

Experience a locals’ favorite dishes on this delicious Bangkok street food tour. Dine with others from out of town and discover food stalls, favorite hidden spots, and experience the cultural history and rich foods the area has to offer.

On this tour you get to journey through different parts of Bangkok. Also, make sure you’re hungry as you’ll eat at 6 different places in the city to experience the true taste of Thailand.

The tour will start off with fresh mouthwatering papaya salad that is slightly spicy and will make your taste buds dance. On the next stop, you’re able to experience all the sweet fruit the country has to offer.

Ever tried fishball noodle soup? It’s now one of my favorites (I really mean that!) Be prepared to eat this dish next to a gorgeous temple while appreciating the colorful and vibrant Chinatown.

Sit down here for a nice Thai-style dim sum soup and end your day at the local pub to taste the local beer and share your experiences with others. So much fun!

Cost: £34/$44 per adult, £30/$38 per 13-17-year-old, £26/$33 per 3-12-year-old. You can find out more about this food tour here .

4. The Ultimate Bangkok Bicycle & Boat Tour

tours of bangkok

I wanted to go for an all-day adventure so I joined the Ultimate Bangkok Bicycle & Boat Tour. Going out of the city, this explores areas far from typical tourist traps.

You’ll enjoy visual cultural contrasts of Muslim and Buddhism, classic and modern, rural and urban.

We began in Chinatown where for about an hour we wandered through pathways with markets, temples, and a vibrant street life.

After a 30 km train ride, we arrived in eastern Bangkok and rode for about 2.5 hours on the paths through neighborhoods and klongs, again noting the strong contrasts of lifestyles along the way.

Next we enjoyed a meal at a local restaurant and a temple before riding on a tail boat in the canals. This is such a good way of getting around and seeing a lot of Bangkok.

A quick bike ride ended at the BTS station and then we rode through urban Bangkok back to the tour beginning, enjoying the unique neighborhoods along the way.

Cost: £55/$70 per adult. You can find out more about this food tour here .

5. Old Town Bangkok Food Tour

street food tour bankok

Join this tour for a true culinary adventure in Bangkok’s Old Town, one of the best places to eat in Bangkok. In just a few hours you’ll gain all the knowledge you need on one of Thailand’s local culinary scenes.

At these local spots you’ll get the chance to try things like BBQ-pork buns, roasted duck, red curry, and beyond. But not only will you get to try these dishes, but you’ll also go behind the scenes for a personal, hands-on learning experience. You’ll discover a range of tastes in one of Bangkok’s oldest neighborhood.

Sign up for a half-day tour with only a few other visitors. Your Bangkok food guide will introduce you to some of Bangkok’s best chefs who will share their stories and answer any foodie questions you have.

Explore Bangkok’s tastiest neighborhood through abundant samples, street foods, and even fine dining options. You’ll feel like a local in no time!

I think that this 3.5-hour tour is a foodie tourist’s dream. You can pick your favorite spot out of five different locations where you’ll taste over eight delicious culinary delights. But save some room for walking. In between eating you’ll explore hidden neighborhood gems, ancient temples, and some of the local’s favorite spots.

Ever had a Thai green custard bun or the royal recipe for green curry beef and chicken? How about roti? Or Kao-Nha-Ped, roasted duck with rice? Among the many exotic flavors you’ll sample are Som Tam (papaya salad), curry on egg, crisped catfish, coconut ice cream, and iced lemon tea.

Plus as a bonus, you’ll get to try secret dishes available only for the group. It’s a great experience.

Cost: £33/$42 per adult, £26/$33 per child, infants free. You can find out more about this food tour here .

6. Bangkok Chinatown 3.5-Hour Night Food Tour

chinatown-bangkok

Do you want a cultural experience that will leave you dreaming of coming back for more? Look no further than the Bangkok Chinatown 3.5-Hour Night Food Tour. During these few incredible hours you will experience Chinatown like never before.

In the 200-year-old Chinatown district, you will experience a variety of foods to satisfy your taste buds. This cuisine ranges from street food vendors to fine dining restaurants. The food will range from herbal teas to sweet treats to satisfying noodle soups. There is no doubt there’s something for everyone on this tour!

In between the 7 delicious food stops on this Bangkok street food tour, you’ll be getting an up close and personal view of the neighborhood. You’ll meet the locals, hear their stories, and develop a deeper understanding of the Chinese culture through religious and symbolic landmarks. For me this is one of the best tours of Bangkok.

Cost: £35/$45 per adult, £28/$36 per child, infants free. You can find out more about this food tour here .

7. Damnoen Saduak Floating Market Bangkok Tour at Ratchaburi

floating-marketing-bangkok

Although Venice is famous for its canals and gondolas, Thailand offers the greatest example of a floating market in Damnoen Saduak Floating Market Bangkok Tour at Ratchaburi. This remnant of yesteryear completely charmed me and ensnared my senses with its vibrant colors and enticing scents.

The tour begins at Gardner’s House, where you will learn the process of making coconut sugar. Learning how to husk the coconuts and extract the milk is a fascinating lesson, and at the end it’s possible that you’ll get to taste some of the final product.

After that, it’s straight to the floating market where hundreds of different types of boats bob together on the water. All sorts of things are available to purchase, including a variety of snacks and foods, clothes and fabric, jewelry, and much, much more.

The floating market at Ratchaburi is a great place to view the friendliness and kindness of local Thai people on full display. They are quite welcoming and eager to barter and banter with travelers, so feel free to immerse yourself in the experience!

Cost: £17/$22 per person. You can find out more about this food tour here .

8. Bangkok Dinner River Cruise

bangkok-boat-tour

The Chao Phraya Dinner Cruise by Grand Pearl Cruise is a must for anyone who wants to experience the romance of Bangkok. Offering unforgettable views of the city, an exquisite buffet of Thai delicacies, and live music and dance, this experience is sure to delight even the most experienced traveler.

The cruise departs from the River City Pier and takes passengers upriver, past the illuminated visages of the Temple of Dawn, Grand Palace, and Temple of the Golden Buddha. Upon return to the pier, a delightful repast is served, including local and international dishes that are seasoned to perfection.

This dinner cruise by the Grand Pearl is truly an experience like no other, and one that is sure to leave one with amazing memories of Bangkok. What a wonderful way to experience this amazing city!

Cost: £37/$47 per adult. You can find out more about this food tour here .

Tour Operated by Tuktuk

The Essentials:

Go beyond Thailand’s well-known dishes on this tuktuk journey through old-Bangkok at places you’d never find on your own. This tour will show you where the locals eat while we discover centuries-old regional cuisines of Thailand across 5 authentic stops, away from the tourists in Chinatown.

All food and drinks at a selection of sit-down restaurants, street food vendors, a local market, and a hidden riverside bar at sunset. You’ll get much more than a full meal!

Small groups of 2-12 people per tour.

Start Location

This tour starts at Hua Lamphong MRT Station. An email will be sent with meeting location details immediately after booking.

Cancellation Policy

Reservations cancelled 24 hours or more before your tour start time are fully refundable.

Dietary Requirements

This tour is not recommended for vegetarians, vegans, or gluten-free individuals. We will do our best to accommodate requests, but substitutions will be very limited. Please let us know prior to your tour date as same day requests cannot be guaranteed.

This is a tuktuk tour, but we will make two stops where you will be on your feet for approx 30 minutes each. This includes walking through small alleys in an artistic residential area and through a local market.

What You'll Do:

Meeting location.

This tour starts at the Hua Lamphong Subway Station, conveniently located on Bangkok’s MRT line. An email will be sent with meeting location details and directions immediately after booking.

Bangkok Evening Food Tour Wontons

Tom Yum Wontons

Chinese immigrants have significantly influenced Thai cuisine for generations, and these traditions are still popular today. This dish blends flavorful tom yum ingredients like lemongrass, galangal, and kaffir lime with crispy fried wontons. Served alongside a bowl of tom yum noodles, this perfect marriage of cuisine is the perfect way to start!

Discover Alleyways and a Riverside Bar at Sunset

This traditional area of Bangkok is made up of a maze of alleys that can only be explored by foot. We’ll walk through this hip neighborhood, dotted with street art and centuries-old temples, and find our way to a stunning riverside oasis with craft beer, pagoda views, and sunset vibes.

Bangkok Evening Food Tour Alleyway Walk

Street Food at a Local Market

Stroll through one of Bangkok’s oldest markets for an authentic glimpse into local street food culture. Discover popular central and southern Thai dishes like fried plantains, handmade lemongrass sausage, seasonal fruits, and more! Then visit a beloved auntie for her charcoal grilled satay skewers marinated in coconut milk, turmeric, and aromatic spices, then dipped in her homemade peanut sauce.

See the City by Tuktuk

Fly through the city’s alleys (known locally as soi’s ) and the historic neighborhoods of Bangkok by tuktuk as we navigate our way past iconic landmarks and to hidden gems. Introduced to the city in the 1960’s, these vehicles have become a symbol of Thai culture.

Bangkok Evening Food Tour Tuktuk Ride

Northeastern Thai Dishes

Isan cuisine is celebrated for its robust flavors combining spicy, sour, and umami. At this long-standing restaurant, we’ll try minced pork with aromatic herbs (Laab), fresh papaya salad (Som Tum), fragrant sticky rice, and meatballs fried with lime leaves for a perfect blend of these traditional flavors.

For nearly a half-century, this hole in the wall has been serving Persian-influenced recipes that have been passed down for generations. Their hand-tossed roti flatbreads are filled with either sweet or salty ingredients…and we’ll try both! This final stop is located near Khaosan Road; your guide will help you get a taxi back to your hotel after the tour.

Plus More Surprises!

* This itinerary is subject to changes and adjustments based on daily vendor operations and availability, but it will always be awesome.

How do you know where to eat in the world's street food capital?

Bangkok is the perfect city of contrasts. Street food stalls outside Michelin restaurants, stilted homes alongside flashy high rises, and a melting pot of culinary influences that have evolved through the ages. Yet most people come to Thailand and eat the same thing they get at home: Pad Thai and Green Curry. But there’s so much more to offer…

On this tour, you’ll taste your way through time and try Thailand’s regional cuisine that makes up the country’s culinary identity. From Chinese immigrants to Northern Thai ethnic groups, our goal is to introduce dishes that are new to you, at places you’d never think to visit. Hop in our tuktuks and explore traditional neighborhoods and local markets, plus a splash of today’s hipster scene as well.

Customer Reviews:

A third of our customers were referred by a previous guest. Were you one of them?!

Frequently Asked Questions:

How much food and drink will i get.

This is not a tasting tour, you should come hungry and you will get more than a full meal of food. If you need more, just let your guide know and we’ll get more, but usually guests cannot finish everything and you’ll want to make sure you pace yourself. We also provide bottled water during the tour, plus a craft beer at a riverside bar.

What if I’m vegetarian/vegan/gluten-free, have allergies, or have special dietary requirements?

While we welcome everyone (this is so much more than a food tour, after all), this tour will be best enjoyed by those who are ready and willing to eat everything. If you can’t, we require your understanding that options will be limited during the tour.

We visit small family-run eateries that often specialize in one type of food or regional cuisine. Further, fish sauce is an essential ingredient in Thai cuisine and replaces salt in almost every dish. Substitutions for special requests are limited at each stop, and guests with those requests will not be able to enjoy the same dishes as others.

This tour is not recommended for anyone with severe allergies to common foods as we cannot guarantee the absence of those foods or that cross-contamination won’t occur.

You’ll have the opportunity to provide your dietary requirements during the booking process. Same day requests cannot be guaranteed.

Will I need to walk very far?

While this is a tuktuk tour, there are a couple areas that we explore by foot. We’ll spend about 20 minutes exploring by foot in a traditional neighborhood dotted with street art and centuries-old temples to find our 2nd stop. We’ll also spend about 30 minutes on our feet at our 3rd stop while we explore a local bustling market and grab a bunch of food along the way.

What ages qualify for child pricing?

Our child pricing is valid for ages 4 through 15. Children ages 3 and under are free (and will need to sit on your lap in the tuktuk).

Where does the tour start and end?

The tour starts at 5pm at Hua Lamphong Subway Station, conveniently located on Bangkok’s MRT underground line. You’ll get the exact address, directions, and transportation details immediately after booking.

The tour ends at our last stop, which is near to Khaosan Road. There are plenty of opportunities for you to explore the area on your own after the tour, or your guide can assist you in getting a ride back to your hotel.

How many people will be on my tour?

Our minimum is 2 and maximum is 12. There’s no flag to follow, or megaphone, or tacky uniforms. It’s small enough to be intimate, but big enough to get away with trying several dishes at each stop. Bottom line is, you’ll follow the guide through a super-local experience and make friends along the way.

Private tours can be arranged, by request, for an additional fee.

What if it's raining or there is inclement weather?

All of our tours are rain-or-shine, so we suggest you dress for the weather. If rain is possible, an umbrella, along with shoes that can get wet, is a good idea. In rare cases of extreme weather, your guide will cancel the tour and provide a full refund.

Do you offer private tours?

Yes we do! If you would like to book a private tour for you and/or your group, contact us and we’ll be happy to organize this for you. Please keep in mind that private tours do incur an additional fee since our availability is limited each day.

Do you offer discounts?

Yes! You’ll get a promo code in your confirmation email that will give you a 10% discount on all future Lost Plate tours. It doesn’t matter if the tour is in the same city or a different city, we want to keep feeding you as long as you let us. Also, children ages 4 through 15 receive a discount on all tours (3 & under are free).

What is your cancellation policy?

Bookings canceled 24 hours or more before your tour are fully refundable (100% refund). Bookings canceled within 24 hours notice are not refundable. If you would like to reschedule your tour with less than 24 hours notice, we will need to charge 50% of your total since we are unable to fill your spots at short notice.

Wow. what a night.

Review of Bangkok Night Lights Tuk Tuk Tour Far exceeded our expectations! Unbelievably good value! There were 2 of us and 5 others. Jib was right there at the meeting place and full of fun ready to guide us. Remembering all our names she travelled in one of the 4 Tuk Tuks with us as we navigated traffic in convoy. We stopped at markets and sampled food as Jib gave us a knowledgeable commentary then back into the Tuk Tuk for another exhilarating ride to the many highlights of Bangkok. Our delightful driver dropped us back at our hotel which was a real bonus.

BANGKOK FOOD TOUR - Don’t leave the fate of your taste buds to chance. Go straight for this metropolis’s culinary jugular on our Bangkok food tour designed and curated by a Thai chef.

Trust us when we say there's more to Bangkok's street food scene than pad Thai along Khao San Road. But not all is made equal. We'll take you to the chef's favoured spots, places that have been serving up hot suppers to the locals for generations.

Our daily Bangkok food tour - ranked the best food and drink experience in the city on TripAdvisor - will see you wind the city's maze of alleys in the cool of the evening feasting for four hours on hidden street eats you'd simply never find alone.

Get in quick though because our intimate Bangkok food tours - limited to just eight exclusive guests - fill up fast. Our small groups give us access to street food stands and hole-in-the-wall joints that larger food tours just can't.

There's no fun in giving you the whole story, but here's a taste of some drool-worthy highlights: mop up rich peanut satay with coconut-milk marinated chicken skewers and tangy ajat relish, scoop up the city's creamiest curry with cured sausage at a backstreet stall made famous by Netflix's series Street Food (it's always been a local hero), partake in peppery soup with crispy pork belly and rolled rice noodles and end on a sugary high along Yaowarat Road in all it's glowing neon glory.

As for the other dozen or so lip-smackingly good eats? Well, you'll just have to wait to find out.

Private Tour Rates

The itinerary of a private Thonburi Evening Food Tour by Tuk Tuk is identical to that of a join-in one. But it is more exclusive because it’s just you and the tour guide.

Why this experience?

This experience will introduce you to Bangkok's dining scenes totally unknown to average travelers! It takes you way off the beaten path across the Chao Phraya River to Thonburi and Bangkok's Old City's best night food locations. You will dine on a street like a local and enjoy a rare dish which was a Thai king's favorite food. We will visit a hundred-year-old food market, an indoor floating market, and Bangrak Market to sample the best family recipes passed down through generations. Transportation for this tour is provided by Tuk Tuk. Zigzagging through Bangkok's traffic and backstreets on a Tuk Tuk is a lot of fun and is a great way to experience real street life.

Not only will we feed you food, we will feed you Thai culture and traditions as we sightsee along the way. You will experience charming ways of life of Thonburi, the short-lived capital of Thailand before Bangkok was founded, visit a beautiful temple with UNESCO Asia-Pacific Award for Cultural Heritage Conservation, and fall in love with the views as we cruise the Chao Phraya river on a shuttle boat. The night ends on a high note at our secret rooftop bar with river views. We promise you this is one of the best ways to spend an evening in Bangkok. Do not wait. Book now!

These restaurants and food stalls are known among local foodies to be the best Mom & Pop diners.

Bangkok's night food locations totally unknown to average travelers

These foodie districts in Thonburi and Bangkok's Old City are famous among Thai diners, yet to be discovered by average tourists. At our hand-picked eateries from street vendors to award-winning Mom & Pop restaurants, you will rub shoulders with locals and be fascinated by these vibrant dining scenes. One of the locations, Talat Phlu, is a historical food market loaded with heavenly food stalls offering great dishes all day long.

Rare & delicious Thai dishes prepared with secret recipes

Mee Krob is crispy noodles flavored by palm sugar and tamarind, topped with prawns. A great appetizer, it also serves as a light meal. King Chulalongkorn (1853 – 1910) accidentally found this restaurant and declared the dish one of his favorites ever since. The recipe has not been changed for a hundred years, lucky us!

An indoor floating market featuring rare Thai regional food

You may raise your eyebrows when we tell you we will take you to a shopping mall to eat. But when you arrive at this food themed market at the ground floor of the mall, you will understand why! The space is packed with food stalls offering regional specialties, food and beverages, some of which are very rare. You can see, taste, and learn about regional Thai food in a nutshell. Local crafts are also on sale. Plus boat vendors in Thai costumes, traditional Thai interior and decorations are really photogenic.

Drinks with a river view

Unwind at a rooftop bar overlooking the curvy Chao Phraya river with a chilled beer or a colorful mock tail. Sitting on the rooftop of a low-rise hotel in a quiet residential area, this bar is never too busy, despite the beautiful view it offers. You will certainly feel relaxed and rather private here.

A fun Tuk Tuk ride and the Chao Phraya river night views

In this experience, you will get to ride a Tuk Tuk and take a river shuttle boat. Riding a Tuk Tuk is a fun way to see Bangkok. You will enjoy evening cool breezes and street life in this City of Angel as you zip through main roads and backstreets. As we take the shuttle boat, get your camera ready for the panoramic views of the Chao Phraya river.

Beautiful Buddhist temple with UNESCO's award

Enjoy a tranquil temple ground towered by a huge white stupa of Wat Prayoonwongsawat Temple, which got a UNESCO Asia-Pacific Award for Cultural Heritage Conservation.

A short Tuk Tuk ride from Talat Phlu BTS skytrain station where we meet brings us to Talat Phlu Market. At the market, we will have prawn crispy noodles, pig leg rice, and the frozen egg yolk ice cream. Then we head to Wat Prayoonwongsawat Temple. We should be there in time for a beautiful sunset. Following is the indoor floating market where you sample delicious traditional Thai snacks and fresh fruits. We take the shuttle boat on Chao Phraya river to Sathorn Pier. There, we walk through Bangrak Market to our final stop, a congee restaurant, grabbing more snacks along the way. We get picked up by the Tuk Tuk to the rooftop bar. Afterwards, our Tuk Tuk driver can drop you off at your hotel or at Asiatique the Riverfront, your choice.

*The itinerary can be changed due to unexpected circumstances. We will do our best to notify you if any changes occur.
