Hailing from New Orleans, US, Eyehategod have been at the forefront of the NOLA southern metal scene since the mid-90s, alongside the likes of Down and Crowbar.

The band formed in 1988, led by guitarist Jimmy Bower and drummer Joe LaCraze, bringing in Michael D. Williams on vocals, Brian Patton on lead guitar and Steve Dale on the bass. After releasing some early demos, they recorded their debut album, "In The Name of Suffering," in 1992, released on French label, Intellectual Convulsion. This was followed by 1993's "Take As Needed For Pain," featuring new bassist Mark Schultz. However, after substantial touring, Eyehategod went on a hiatus, with Bower made busy with commitments to Crowbar and Down.

The band briefly returned to release their third album, "Dopesick" in 1996, before falling quiet once again until the end of the decade. The band recorded several new singles which were compiled in 2000 on "Southern Discomfort," also including live recordings. This new release gave them impetus to complete another full studio album, "Confederacy of Ruined Lives," that same year, before again embarking on nationwide tours.

The band fell quiet once again, although still continued to perform intermittently. It was not until 2005 that new material was released, "Preaching the 'End-Time' Message," another compilation album in the same vein as "Southern Discomfort. In the following years the band continued to performat major festivals and embark on tours, celebrating their 20 year anniversary in 2008. It was not until 2014 that Eyehategod brought forth their fans new music, with their self-titled album, their first for nearly ten years.

Live reviews

Sludge metal is a genre that requires an acquired taste, but in my opinion Eyehategod are relatively versatile, mainly due to their status as one of the most well known and prestigious bands of the genre. The lights were out, and the feedback from the guitar washed over the auditorium before the band ran onstage with their instruments, ready to bring the house down.

They opened the show with a lengthy instrumental track, that demonstrated the sheer talent of every musician in the band, as they powered through complex guitar solos, challenging time signatures, and incredibly fast beats, whilst staying tight as a unit. It was evident that they’ve been playing together for years through their tight format, and their communication on stage.

They played through a variety of their hits from their older material, and journeyed right through to their self titled album from 2014. Their performance value was great, jumping, running, and head banging across the stage, despite their age. They put on an incredible show, and interacted well with us in the crowd, shouting to sing and dance along, and they even took song requests towards the end of the show. It really was a wonderful presentation of talented musicians and great writing.

Groovy sludge blues hardcore show! Jimmy Bower is amazing! Mike Williams is a charismatic front man and Gary Mader and Aaron Hill provide the foundation for a tempo shifting cataclysm!

Negative Approach are legendary, and illustrate the full force of the hardcore ideal. They own that shit and they provide many moments of raw power. They are so forceful they blow you "out the frame".

Sheer Terror are underrated members of the NY scene and kick that NYHC at it's finest.

Don't miss this tour if you love it loud and miserable.

All the good metal shows are always on Sunday night for some reason. Kansas City has a great scene for it though, and lots of people came out to see Eyehategod and Cro-Mags. I missed the two opening acts, but I got what I came for. If you're reading this, you already know what this music is about, and if you're into it, then you don't want to miss the opportunity to experience it live.

One of my favorite bands. Very heavy and in your face. The feedback intros are always cool, kinda like a trip to the twilight zone, sorta gets you ready for what youre about to experience. My girlfriend had an ear and sinus infection and after the show it was gone

Everything a concert should be: intimate, raw, visceral. The sound quality was awesome. Mike sounded great. Excellent song selection. Venue nice, not too crowded, not too hot, good beer selection.

IMMENSE as usual.

Two equally immense support bands.

Come To Grief and Eyehategod both made the floor vibrate that you felt it in your chest.

The power of the riff compelled EVERYONE!

In March 2021, EYEHATEGOD released its first new full-length album in seven years, "A History Of Nomadic Behavior" , via Century Media Records . The LP was produced by EYEHATEGOD , Sanford Parker ( YOB , VOIVOD ) and James Whitten ( THOU , HIGH ON FIRE ),with mixing by Whitten . The band recorded at HighTower Recording and Hypercube studios. The artwork for the LP was created by Gary Mader and Mike IX Williams .

Singer Mike IX Williams said of the songs on the album: "We're not a political band, but it was hard not to be affected by the news from the past year. During this recording, I thought a lot about how stupid humanity has become and how America is now completely divided with these people who don't believe in science and blindly follow liars and nonsensical ideologies. Some of those feelings may have found their way into these songs, but it is mostly subliminal."

"A History Of Nomadic Behavior" followed a period that saw EYEHATEGOD on the road for three years, preceded by Williams suffering liver failure and a transplant. "We toured our asses off for three years and that's where 'A History Of Nomadic Behavior' basically comes from," Williams said before touching on his health challenge: "Death is a part of life; it's a roll of the dice. Sometimes you take life as it comes, other times you fight to stay alive."

EYEHATEGOD 's previous album, a self-titled affair, came out in 2014. It arrived a decade and a half after its predecessor, 2000's "Confederacy Of Ruined Lives" .

EYEHATEGOD 's 1990 "In The Name Of Suffering" and 1993 "Take As Needed For Pain" studio albums are considered their seminal works and are often cited as pillars of the American sludge sound alongside ACID BATH , BUZZOV*EN and CROWBAR .

EYEHATEGOD To Kick Off Extensive North American Tour Supporting Gwar And Napalm Death + Headlining Dates Announced!

EYEHATEGOD will kick off their massive North American tour TONIGHT to close out the year!

The journey begins with a pair of rescheduled record release shows October 22nd and 23rd at Poor Boys in their hometown of New Orleans, Louisiana, followed by four more headlining shows through Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina. On October 28th, the band will convene with Gwar and Napalm Death in Norfolk, Virginia for an epic live takeover that will run through nearly four dozen cities, including several one-off headlining shows, coming to a close on December 14th in New York City.

Comments vocalist Mike IX Williams, “ EYEHATEGOD have practically lived on the road for most of its existence. Speaking for myself, I feel at home out on the railroad tracks. I feel it’s where we do the most sonic damage and the loneliness-meets-chaos of the nomadic lifestyle comes into full play. Now that venues are opening up and things are getting safer for people who’ve been vaccinated (or implanted with a tracing chip, depending how you look at it), we are finally able to play live shows again! See us with Gwar and Napalm Death or any other number of headline gigs across the USA!”

EYEHATEGOD will be touring in support of their A History of Nomadic Behavior full-length, released last March via Century Media Records. The record followed a period that saw the band on the road for three years, preceded by vocalist Mike IX Williams suffering liver failure and a transplant. The album was produced by EYEHATEGOD , Sanford Parker (Yob, Voivod), and James Whitten (Thou, High On Fire), with mixing by Whitten. The band recorded at HighTower Recording and Hypercube Studios.

EYEHATEGOD is the snarling, bilious sound of dead-end America. Since 1988, they’ve been a soundtrack for the troubled masses. Pitchfork dubbed them the, “quintessential Southern sludge band,” Rolling Stone crowned them one of, “America’s great live bands,” while Thrasher called them, “true musical pioneers in every sense of the word.” Anyone familiar with EYEHATEGOD ‘s trajectory knows this is survivor’s music, a sound unto itself where Sabbathian riffs are meted out with a caustic anger that goes beyond punk. That’s been the blueprint since guitarist Jimmy Bower (also of NOLA supergroup, Down) founded the band in 1988 with vocalist Mike IX Williams joining not long after. With a discography including sludge-punk mainstays like In The Name Of Suffering (1990), Take As Needed For Pain (1993) Dopesick (1996), Confederacy Of Ruined Lives (2000) and 2014’s eponymous LP, released in the US through Housecore Records, EYEHATEGOD laid the cracked foundation for their infamous and influential sound. The band is rounded out by bassist Gary Mader and drummer Aaron Hill.

“This record is as much a celebration as it is a continuation of the band’s journey. Despite all they’ve been through they’ve come back swinging, a true testament to the age old philosophy of ’what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger’ – in their case what doesn’t kill you makes you more pissed off.” – Kerrang

“ EYEHATEGOD remains the sonic equivalent of a rabid dog in the bowels of hell. There’s no room for pity or remorse—only misanthropy and riffs…” – Metal Injection

“ EYEHATEGOD has never been this diverse in its expression. Yet the vitriol and scathing hatred are still present, as we would expect.” — Blabbermouth

Eyehategod Celebrating 30th Anniversary of ‘Take as Needed for Pain’ on 2023 Tour With Goatwhore

In celebration of the 30th anniversary of their classic album  Take As Needed for Pain , New Orleans sludge legends Eyehategod will be playing the record in full on a U.S. tour with fellow NOLA pals Goatwhore .

The 23-date jaunt kicks off in Atlanta, Georgia and makes a stop at the Decibel Metal & Beer Fest, one of just three stops that will not feature Goatwhore.

Released in 1993,  Take As Needed For Pain is regarded as one of the earliest sludge metal masterpieces and demonstrated a significant stylistic leap from the more punk and hardcore addled debut,  In the Name of Suffering . Now, fans will have the opportunity to hear all 12 tracks live with two of the record's remaining members, vocalist Mike IX Williams and guitarist Jimmy Bower .

Goatwhore, meanwhile, will be out in support of last year's  Angels Hung From the Arches of Heaven , their eighth studio album.

See the full list of dates below and head to Eyehategod's website for more info.

Eyehategod Announce Fall 2022 US Tour Dates

The post Eyehategod Announce Fall 2022 US Tour Dates appeared first on Consequence .

Eyehategod will embark on a headlining fall 2022 US tour with support from ACxDC and Savage Master.

The trek kicks off September 16th in Austin and runs through October 2nd in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The fall outing will be bookended by a European headlining tour beginning next Wednesday (July 27th) and a run of US shows supporting Venom Inc. in late October and early November. You can pick up tickets via Ticketmaster .

The NOLA sludge metal veterans have been touring non-stop in support their 2021 album A History of Nomadic Behavior . The title pays homage to the band’s notoriety for being true road dogs, as the extensive list of 2022 shows attests.

Eyehategod kicked off the year opening for Clutch on the latter’s North American tour before heading out for their own set of headlining dates in April and May.
