British Columbia Tours & Travel

British Columbia Attractions & Landmarks Guide

British Columbia has few rivals in the world as a place that combines urban with natural beauty. Its two major cities – Vancouver and Victoria – would alone warrant a visit to Canada’s westernmost province. Add to that the myriad outdoor activities available both inland and along the coast – including hiking, skiing, mountain biking, and whale watching – and you have one of North America’s most exciting destinations.

Spanning more than 350,000 square miles from the border with Washington State north to the Yukon and from the Pacific Ocean east to Alberta, British Columbia is four times the size of England with only a small fraction of its population. Tours to Canada often focus on British Columbia's natural attractions, but the cities here are also work visiting, particularly Vancouver, Victoria, and Whistler.

Its diverse landscapes include mountain peaks, thick forests, and rugged coastlines that are dotted by offshore islands, many inhabited by First Nations citizens (Haida and other Native Americans). Tours of the Canadian Rockies and other mountain ranges nearby provide much of the scenic beauty and diverse recreational opportunities.

Vancouver City & Island

A number of cruise ships leave Vancouver Harbor for voyages up Alaska’s Inside Passage, passing many of the province’s islands along the way. A few stop at BC ports such as Prince Rupert.

Vancouver’s many attractions include Stanley Park, which occupies a peninsula jutting up between English Bay and the harbor; the historic pioneer-era Gaslight District; the lively Granville Island Public Market; and the shaky-though-walkable Capilano Suspension Bridge, which stretches high above a gorge north of the city. Vancouver’s large Asian population helps foster a thriving culinary scene, while First Nations artworks and totems highlight museum collections.

Victoria, in turn, is situated on the southern tip of Vancouver Island and can be reached by ferry from Washington State. It’s known for being “more English than England,” as evidenced by its pubs, flower gardens, and high tea at the iconic Empress Hotel overlooking the harbor.

Nearby Butchart Gardens features world-class floral displays, while whale-watching trips offer chances to view Orcas as well as humpback and grey whales.

The rest of Vancouver Island is well worth exploring, at least to the extent you can get around it. Most of the remaining population is located on the island’s east coast, accessed via a major road, while its west coast is wild and more isolated. You can, however, find tours that will have you paddling a dugout canoe in the waters off the village of Tofino, complete with a First Nations guide, among a number of other adventures.

Mainland British Columbia

Whistler – Canada’s top ski resort  – hosted the 2010 Winter Olympics and is located about 75 miles north of the city of Vancouver along the scenic Sea to Sky Highway. The highway features oceanfront vistas to one side and a series of craggy mountain peaks to the other. An alpine-style village lies at the foot of Whistler’s slopes and there’s plenty of aprés-ski action.

At Whistler and more remote mountain lodges inland, you can try heli-skiing in winter or heli-hiking in summer. The “heli” part refers, of course, to “helicopter,” which is the only available means of transport for many of the locations. The mountain settings are spectacular throughout the year and the whole effect is extremely adventurous.

River rafting, mountain climbing, fishing in the pristine wilderness, birding, wildlife viewing, soaking in hot springs, and visiting Native American villages are other popular seasonal activities.

Canadian Rockies: National Parks Eastbound

The 2 week camping tour of BC and Alberta was absolutely amazing. Marco was a fantastic guide, great cook, very friendly and knowledgable. He created an atmosphere that facilitated the entire group getting along and having an enjoyable time together. I'd highly recommend the tour and Marco as guide to anyone. Thanks for a great few weeks!

Caribou Tour

Our tour guide and group were amazing. He was punctual, knowledgeable, and kind. However I wasn’t too happy with the tour. I understand it is a low season, but many things were canceled or unavailable. The biggest disappointment was not going to a First Nations village. The reason was a flood that happened either last year or this summer. That should have been disclosed on the website before we made a decision to book the tour. That being said, other things we did do and see were incredible.

Rockies Premium Tour from Vancouver (34 Seats)

The itinerary was very structured and organised. Got to see many spectacular sights of the Rockies. Had an amazing time with the group (just a nice size) and we got to go to Banff, Jasper, saw many waterfalls and mountain ranges. Enjoyed myself thoroughly. Thank you to Luke for being such a cool, chill and wonderful tour guide throughout the trip! He really made sure we all had a great time, single-handedly driving us long distances to the different destinations and also helping out with our luggages. He also recommended us great sights to see and provided insights on some of the history of the Rockies and tidbits about the stuff we saw in our tour.

Rockies Classic Summer Tour

The Rocky Mountain Summer Classic was amazing. The accommodation was of a good standard with the exception of the Comfort Inn in Valemount. Although the room was well appointed the breakfast area was too small to accommodation a bus load of guests to sit and eat breakfast at the same time. Our tour guide, Ryan and drive, Yee was fantastic. All in all it was a great tour and I would recommend it to all family and friends.

Via Railway Experience|5-Day Vancouver to Rockies Railway Full Experience Tour Departure

Overall it was a very good experience. The tour is organized and the entire team were nice and helpful. The tour was great in the sense that you get to see a lot in a few days which is great. You also get explanation and details of every spot. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who is interested in discovering the Rocky Mountains. The only thing I would change is to exclude the Vancouver part, if you are going from TO I advise to go strait to Calgary and start the tour from there. We did the 5 days excursion from TO to Vancouver then to Jasper, Banff …Calgary. And we had a flight delay going to Vancouver of 2 days so arrived on the same day we had to head to Jasper and that was very exhausting. In conclusion, it’s a great tour to consider and totally worth it :)

Grand Canadian Rockies

Really awesome! I enjoyed it immensely plus our guide Jay was so accommodating to everyone's personal wants to the tour. Also he's really versatile and knows exactly how to time everything so we're not bothered too much by the tourist rushes. It was so great. I'm so happy I went ^^

Rockies Classic Summer Tour Tour

Ryan was amazing. Very knowledgeable about every place we went to. The hotels were excellent and in great location. The stops were also really great. I really enjoyed this tour. However, the downside of this trip was the group (mostly two people in specific) of travellers who were inconsiderably loud, obnoxious, rudely talking over the tour guide (we couldn’t hear what he was saying half the time), putting their dirty feet on peoples seats, playing music very loudly off their phones, and just being inconsiderate of the other people who were also on this tour. It made it very tedious for a long bus ride.

Majestic Rockies

1- The plan of the trip was fulfilled 100% thanks to our guide Brad and to the group who were ALWAYS very punctual so everything could be done. 2- The optional tours are very expensive, however, have we not taken them, that would have meant too much free time on our hands in places we don't know and activities we have not prepared for. The tour itself is not cheap and I think some of the activities that were offered as optional this time, should be added to the original plan as part of the tour. 3- Hotels - The first hotels were great , and taken into consideration that the tour was very costly, their standard was satisfactory. however, the two last hotels were definitely sub-standard. In Banff we had no air conditioning, no refrigerator in our room and a special one had to be brought in. It did not really work well. Why do I mention this specific detail? In my registration forms I specifically mentioned that my husband is diabetic and that we are traveling with Insulin injections which must be refrigerated when we reach our hotels. I was promised that there would be no problem. However, in more than one hotel a special unit had to be brought to our room and that only after requesting it. Why? All the details were known, why did we had to go through this embarrassment? It is not that easy for my husband to have his illness announced publicly time and again..(.I know from the group that another lady had the same problem...) those days, when there are such dramatic climate changes, have us stay for two nights in a wooden cabin with no air condition is next to impossible. You must remember that the whole group (33 people) were retired middle-aged people. That is very difficult for us. You must change your plan of hotels, especially the ones at the end! 4- Brad was excellent., very helpful, kind, very professional . He and the driver Gerard were an exceptionally good team. 5- The bus was very good, clean, safe, air conditioned and Gerard drove very cautiously and safely. 6- The route was great and we had a very memorable trip. Thank you.

What people love about Canada Tours from Vancouver

I only wished it lasted longer
Great tour with amazing sights and wildlife; however, be aware of a lot of driving the first two days on the way to banff and on the last two days back to Vancouver. Furthermore the itinerary should be updated as there where some changes as to the description.
Ian our tour guide was amazing. Funny, knowledgeable, and very organized and informative. The sights were unbelievable and the trip arranged so every day you saw something spectacular. The 5 days were perfect as the pace was neither too fast or too slow. And we really enjoyed the group we were with. Great way to see the Canadian Rockies.

Its cobblestone streets and narrow alleyways hint at a feisty frontier town, not a cosmopolitan city of millions. The first building there was actually a pub built by loggers who were paid in whiskey.

Loggers, whiskey, you see where I’m going with this – this is the top of our best walking tours of Vancouver .

Throw in the Great Vancouver Fire, some smallpox outbreaks, and tales of revenge and redemption , and we’ve got the makings of a delightfully macabre Vancouver walking tour .

I like this one for groups seeking city tours as it’s arguably the most social Vancouver tour , and it offers lots of hidden gems.

The Stanley Park Bike Tour – Top Stanley Park Tour

Location: Stanley Park | Length:  3 hours | Cost:  From $103.50 CAD

Stanley Park is one of the most fabulous urban parks in the world, and it stands out because it’s not the byproduct of any fancy landscaping. It’s exactly as nature left it – with about half a million trees .

The park has the Vancouver Aquarium , is home to breathtaking First Nations totem poles , and counts some amazing panoramic city views along the Stanley Park Seawall .

This is one of the best bike tours of Vancouver , and you’ll weave through old-growth forest trails ,  learn all about local flora and fauna, and learn the Coastal First Nations history of life before the settlers came.

Wanting to leave the bike aside? Check out our top Stanley Park tours for other methods.

Meeting Point: Georgian Court Hotel | Length:  3.5 hours | Cost:  From $78.75 CAD

Here’s a tourist tour for people wanting to check off major sights with the least amount of hassle possible .

The epic food market and artisan stronghold at Granville Island is tough to get to, so sitting back and letting them take you to the action is the highlight of this trip.

The fact it also includes all the highlights of Stanley Park makes this a great one-two punch.

I always recommend Vancouver hop-on hop-off bus tours for anybody on day one of a Vancouver itinerary or for cruisers arriving at the Vancouver cruise terminal .

Since it includes all the major photo landmarks , it’ll look like you were here for weeks! 🙂

Once you’re picked up, you’ll be taken to prime downtown locations like Canada Place, Stanley Park, and Robson Street . It’ll also follow some of Vancouver’s best beaches along English Bay before dropping you off at Queen Elizabeth Park .

The tour in Vancouver finishes up in Chinatown and Gastown (with a stop at the Gastown Steam Clock).

Prince of Whales – Best Vancouver Day Tour on the Water

Location:  Granville Island | Length: 5 hours | Cost:  From $235.99 CAD

This is one of the top Vancouver nature tours, whether you’re grabbing their half-day tours or their full-on  day trips from Vancouver that’ll take you all the way to Victoria .

What I love about their half-day whale-watching tour is that it departs right from Granville Island aboard the Salish Sea Freedom – the biggest, fastest ship in the fleet that’ll have you on whale grounds in a hurry.

The chance to see orcas and humpback whales in the wild on the top Vancouver whale watching tours is true bucket list stuff.

There’s a 90%+ sighting rate, and if they don’t deliver, you’re allowed to come back another day.

This small group tour is run by a professional photographer. They’ll take you on seasonal and weather-specific tours to city landmarks like the Art Deco Marine Building, the Olympic Cauldron, the Vancouver Art Gallery balcony, Gastown, Chinatown, and more.

FlyOver Canada 4D Video Experience – Cheapest Tour in Vancouver

Location: Downtown | Length: 8 minutes | Cost:  From $30.45 CAD

Tell somebody it’s possible to fly across Canada in 8 minutes and wait for the look on their face – then tell them you did that at FlyOver Canada in downtown Vancouver.

This state-of-the-art flight simulation uses 4D technology to make you feel like you’re really taking a flight across Canada – whether you’re being sprayed with the mist of Niagara Falls or breathing in the scents of an Alberta flowerbed, this is a true 5 sense experience.

This is one of the cheapest Vancouver BC city tours, and in my opinion, since it’s indoors, it is one of the best things to do in Vancouver in winter .

Victoria Highlights Tour – Top Vancouver Tour to Escape the City

Location: Vancouver & Victoria | Length: 13 hours | Cost:  From $229.00 CAD

OK, so this isn’t a Vancouver day tour, but if you’re looking for Vancouver to Victoria tours , this is the fastest way to do it – and you’ll see a National Historic Site of Canada with over a million bedding plants while you’re at it.

Thank you everyone for a unique and fantastic trip.”

25 Best Small Towns In BC To Visit

Stewart - small town to visit in BC

How many times have you driven through small towns in BC on your way to ‘somewhere’, only to find out later that you missed something interesting or special? That sure can be disappointing, especially if you’re unlikely to visit that area again. Hopefully, my collection of small towns in BC will get you to stop next time you drive through one of the towns.

tours in bc canada

I’m on the road a lot in my home province of British Columbia and I have visited many more small towns in BC than the ones mentioned here. This made it a real challenge to choose the most unique small towns in British Columbia to add to my list.

Here you have it, my selection of 25 unique small towns in BC to visit with a short overview and reasons why you should visit them.

Many other small towns in British Columbia are worth a visit. Some are located close to the ones I mentioned. Don’t miss out, stop at all places along the way and you will be surprised by what you will find.

In this selection, I included mostly small towns in British Columbia that are not on the official tourist routes. Some of the places will be out of the way. Please do your research and be prepared before heading out. Read more: Road Trip Planner for the Wilderness

Facts About Small Towns In British Columbia

Table of Contents

British Columbia is the third largest and most westerly province in Canada. It is larger than France and Germany combined, or almost four times the size of Great Britain. The length of BC’s coastline is over 27,000 km.

That of course means that the 25 small towns to visit in BC can’t be achieved during a two-week vacation. Start with getting to know one region at a time and you will discover many unique towns you never knew existed.

25 Unique Small Towns In BC To Visit

1. lumby bc.

Lumby, one of my favourite small towns in BC to visit

Lumby was my hometown for twenty-plus years and deserves to be the first one on my list. This unique small country town was a Canadian adventure destination for many, while I operated Silver Spur Trails Wilderness Guest Ranch in the Mabel Lake Valley.

Lumby is the getaway to the Monashee and the region is a hiker’s paradise with over 100 nearby trails. The many lakes invite you to fish, swim and enjoy watersports. It is easy to spot wildlife in the surrounding backcountry.

Don’t just rush through this unique BC town. A drive out to Mabel Lake Provincial Park and Echo Lake is a must to get a taste of what this special place is all about. What about wilderness camping at one of the forestry campgrounds for a night?

Read more: Lumby BC, North Okanagan

Lumby Bucket List:

  • Follow the Salmon Trail for a leisurely, scenic stroll through Lumby.
  • Venture to Monashee Provincial Park for serious hiking trails with awe-inspiring views and pristine lakes.
  • Chasing Waterfalls at Shuswap Falls, Brenda Falls, Rainbow Falls, and Cascade Falls.

  • Head to Echo Lake Provincial Park, an idyllic small lake perfect for a canoe or kayak.

2. Silverton

Silverton, Kootenay small town in BC to visit

Silverton, a tiny gem on the east shore of Slocan Lake, 5 km south of New Denver is a great small town in BC for a relaxing break. The area was first settled in 1892 by the arrival of lead and silver miners working the south face of Idaho Mountain.

With a population of nearly 195 people, Silverton is British Columbia’s second smallest municipality. As you can guess it’s hard to get lost in this little town! Silverton has a lakeshore campground with a boat launch if you decide to spend a night.

Bucket List Silverton:

  • Have a stroll around town and enjoy the beautiful heritage buildings.
  • Stop at Silverton Day Park overlooking the lake.
  • Camp for the night at the Lakeshore Campground.

3. New Denver

Denver West-Kootenay cool town to visit in BC

The small BC town of Denver, and other surrounding communities, are where hundreds of Canadians of Japanese heritage were brought during the Second World War. The Nikkei Internment Memorial Centre in New Denver is the only interpretive centre in Canada dedicated to the history of this tragic story.

New Denver had a number of abandoned houses from the boom times, but many more small dwellings were built to house the 2,000 men, women, and children of Japanese origins. Some of these tiny houses still exist today.

Read more: West-Kootenay Route

Bucket List New Denver:

  • Visit the Silvery Slogan Museum.

Ghost Town of Sandon unique small town in British Columbia

Don’t miss out on a detour to Sandon, one of the best small towns to visit in BC.

If you’re a history buff, interested in abandoned buildings and old artifacts, old the ghost town of Sandon in British Columbia has to be on your bucket list. There was a time when Sandon was a thriving mining community. But when the silver ran out, it quickly lost its fame. After a fire in the early 1900s and later followed by two major floods, much of the town was burned down and washed away.

Today, less than a handful of people live permanently in Sandon. It’s free to walk around and visit the fire hall, the old abandoned busses, and abandoned buildings and tour the operational hydroelectric station.

Meet Vida and Hal and get inspired by their story and how they fight and work hard to keep the town alive. Sanden is located a short drive from New Denver.

Today Salmo is a quaint town at the junction of two highways. Fishing and swimming holes are there to be discovered along the picturesque Salmo River. It’s a playground for outdoor activities like hiking, mountain biking, and BMXing at the ski hill. There is also the 48 km stretch of the old railway line that connects Nelson, Ymir, and Salmo.

Greenwood, romantic Canadian small town in BC to visit

If you dwell on the image of a romantic Canadian town, you should definitely visit Greenwood BC. Greenwood is a historic small town with approximately 675 residents and is located in the Boundary region of British Columbia. It is Canada’s official smallest city (and yes, there is Keno City in the Yukon, but that one is unofficial). Greenwood’s history goes back to 1891 with the discovery of gold, silver, and copper.

Today, Greenwood is a great destination for history buffs. Greenwood is the gateway to the Great Trail and has a large trail network to offer for any skill level. A visit to the museum is a must. Pick up pamphlets and maps of the area.

Oliver is close to Osoyoos BC and less touristy. Here you are close to lakes and many hiking and biking trails.

11. Merritt

Merritt BC, country music

Before Merritt was known as the Country Music Capital of Canada, locals used to rave about the beautiful Nicola Valley with their slogan “a lake a day, as long as you stay”. Once you spend a day at one of the many lakes in Nicola Valley, you will know why the old slogan is still true.

Merritt is rich with Country Music Legend Murals and Walk of Star handprints throughout town. Country music inspires the country lifestyle, and with the huge surrounding ranch land, you know that you’re in Cowboy Country.

Once you start exploring the area around Merritt, you don’t want to leave.

Lillooet British Columbia - small towns in BC

Lillooet was founded as Mile 0 on the wagon road leading to the Cariboo and Barkerville gold fields and was the centre of the gold rush during the mid-1800s.

Today, a cairn sits on Main Street marking “Mile 0” of the historic trail. Formerly known as Cayoosh Canyon, Lillooet is one of the oldest communities in British Columbia.

This small BC town is surrounded by rugged mountain peaks with lakes, desert country, and the mighty Fraser River making this a unique place.

Bridge of the Twenty-Three Camels is the official name of the highway bridge crossing the Fraser River. Camels were introduced to the area in 1862 as fright animals. Unfortunately, the camel era didn’t last long and today the bridge honours their memory.

There is so much to see and do in this historic old town in BC. With all the camp and accommodation options you might as well stay for at least a couple of night.

19. hazelton.

Historic Hazelton BC- unique small towns in BC

The frontier spirit lives on in Hazelton. The restored heritage buildings of the “Old Town” serve as a reminder of the days when Hazelton was the commercial centre of the Northwest wilderness.

From 1886 to 1913, Hazelton was the upriver terminus for a fleet of sternwheelers when the Skeena River was the transportation route for people and goods.

Today, Old Hazelton is a reconstructed pioneer town complete with a Trading Post, Barber Shop, Cafe, and City Hall buildings plus a sternwheeler on display on the Skeena River. The region is a great destination for remote wilderness activities and camping and First Nation Culture.

Read more: Hazelton BC – a journey through time

Bucket List Hazelton:

  • Park your car and walk across Hagwilget Canyon Bridge
  • Spend time at Ksan Historical Village and Museum, walk through longhouses and learn the history.
  • Visit Ross Lake Provincial Park and take the trail around the lake.
  • Kitwanga, a side trip from Hazelton to see outstanding carved cedar poles and St. Paul’s Anglican Church, was built in 1893. It is also the site of Gitwangak Battle Hill National Historic Site of Canada.

20. Prince Rupert

tours in bc canada

Another end-of-the-road small town you don’t want to miss, is Prince Rupert, a colourful coastal town on British Columbia’s wild and beautiful Northwest Coast. Here is where you can board a ship to Alaska, Vancouver Island, or Haida Gwaii if you have a reservation or stick around for a few days.

To stick around was my plan, but after two days of pouring rain, I gave up and left. On a sunny day, this harbour town would be a jewel to explore. Check the weather forecast before driving all this way.

Plan your trip with The Milepost Road Planner

Bucket List Prince Ruppert:

  • Take a stroll along the waterfront District of Cow Bay.
  • Watch out for the totem poles around town and murals.

21. Gitwinksihlkw

Gitwinksihlkw Suspension Bridge

Gitwinksihlkw is one of the four villages on the Nisga’a Highway 113. From Terrace, BC Nisga’a Highway takes you through the Nass Valley on an amazing 170 km drive. This off-the-beaten-track highway is not mentioned in any of my travel books. You will pass First Nations settlements along rivers and mountains and through a volcanic landscape. I can’t even imagine!

For years, the community of Gitwinksihlkw was accessible only by suspension footbridge. Today, a modern vehicle bridge provides direct access. Watch out for the four totem poles flanking the bridge.

Bucket List Gitwinksihlkw:

  • Walk across Ukws-Ts’agat, the suspension footbridge.
  • Stop at the village entrance bridge to take a picture.
  • Inquire at the village office about hiking trails and viewpoints.
  • Visit the other three villages on Nisga’a Highway 13.

22. Stewart

Stewart Northern BC

Stewart, this unique small BC town located at the head of the historic 90-mile-long Portland Canal is surrounded by rich forests and Cambria ice fields. On the way to Stewart, you will see glacier formations overlooking the highway and most probably encounter bears crossing the road.

From Stewart, continue the short drive to Hyder Alaska, Stewart’s border town to see Salmon Glacier, the world’s largest road-accessible glacier.

You can get there driving the Salmon Glacier Road from Hyder, Alaska. Navigating around the potholes will get you to the Summit Viewpoint and you will be rewarded with spectacular views.

  • Venture on the epic drive to Bear Glacier Provincial Park.
  • Spend some time at the Fish Creek Wildlife viewing platform (Hyder Alaska).

23. Telegraph Creek

Telegraph Creek BC

Telegraph Creek is a small town in BC with roughly 250 permanent residents offering only basic services.

To get to the small town of Telegraph Creek in British Columbia you need to conquer 150 km of gravel driving, steep gradients (up to 20 percent), narrow passages along canyon walls, and sharply angled switchbacks. I was glad I had a 4WD and no motorhome or trailer to pull.

The Stikine Valley is home to the Tahlthan First Nation. In summer families gather at traditional fish camps along the Stikine River to catch and put up salmon.

The Stikine route was used to haul men and equipment to build the airport at Watson Lake during World War II with riverboats and trucks running to and from Dease Lake. The last riverboat made her final voyage in 1969.

24. Jade City/Cassiar

Jade City on Stewart Cassiar Highway, uniqye small town to visit in BC

Jade City is named for the extensive jade deposits found nearby and offers a glimpse into jade mining. Not so much of a city, but a special “spot on the road” in the Cassiar Highlands of northwestern British Columbia, on Highway 37 near Yukon .

With a population of approximately 20 people, the family-run jade mining operation is a stop of particular interest on the Stewart Cassiar Highway. The owners of the Cassiar Mountain Jade Store are experts in everything from prospecting to carving this beautiful stone.

Enjoy free coffee, free camping, and free Internet.

Bucket List Jade City

  • Spend time at the Cassiar Mountain Jade Store and learn about the area and jade mining. This is a great place to buy beautiful souvenirs.
  • Visit the ghost town of Cassiar, an old asbestos mining town 10 km west of the highway.
  • There are old mining trails into the mountains for the adventure seeker. Ask at the store.
  • Look out for Thinhorn mountain sheep, mountain goats, caribou, and moose in the area.

Atlin BC Million Dollar View and a special small towns in BC to visit

No wonder the remote community of Atlin on the eastern shore of Atlin Lake in the far northwestern tip of British Columbia is known as “Little Switzerland”. Atlin is a pretty unique small town in BC and worth a visit. By road, you only can get to this beautiful small British Columbia town from Yukon .

While there, make sure to hike up to the top of Monarch Mountain, a spectacular 4-hour hike with a million-dollar view.

"Sunshine Coast Tours went above and beyond to give us a wonderful experience. The trip was informative, beautiful, safe and inspiring. Bryce knows lots about the area and apparently the other captain is also knowledgeable. He made sure we were all comfortable and we had an hour and a half at Chatterbox Falls. Great Service and Spectacular Scenery"

- Beth, Tripadvisor

"Thank you Captain Bryce for an amazing tour of Princess Louisa inlet and Chatterbox Falls. We really enjoyed listening to you share your knowledge of the area! You do it in a way that is genuine and not rehearsed like some other tours can be. Seeing transient orcas from only a few metres away wasn’t bad either..."

- Abbey, Tripadvisor

"We saw orcas on our way to Princess Louisa inlet and saw them again on our way back. Our guide stopped the boat, so we could take pictures. We also saw lots of seals and eagles! The stop at the falls was long enough to eat your own picnic, take pictures and walk around the small trail. I would definitely recommend to everyone."

- Chloé, Google

"The scenery is gorgeous but what really brought it to life was our guides knowledge of the area, the history, geography, and so much more. If you are looking for an informative tour in a beautiful part of the world, I would highly recommend Sunshine Coast Tours."

- Karen, Google

"The tour to Princess Louisa Inlet was incredible. We both grew up in Vancouver near the water, but we have never seen such stunning views by boat. The stop at Chatterbox Falls was only one of the highlights of this trip. Jim did an amazing job as our tour guide. He was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. I would not hesitate to recommend this trip to anyone."

Victoria BC cruise port

Region West Coast USA and Canada

Local Time 2024-05-21 06:01

Port Victoria BC cruise ship schedule shows timetable calendars of all arrival and departure dates by month. The port's schedule lists all ships (in links) with cruises going to or leaving from Victoria BC, Vancouver Island Canada. To see the full itineraries (ports of call dates and arrival / departure times) and their lowest rates – just follow the corresponding ship-link.

Victoria Harbour (BC Canada) cruise port is located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island in the Canadian province British Columbia. This is the most visited port of call on "Alaskan Canada" cruise itineraries. Near the cruise terminal is located the ship repair facility Esquimalt Graving Dock. Its drydock can handle Panamax-size vessels and is among the largest on North America's west coast.

Victoria BC is approx 100 km (60 mi) from Vancouver BC (mainland Canada), approx 100 km (60 mi) from Seattle WA (mainland USA) and approx 40 km (25 mi) from Port Angeles WA (by ferry across Juan de Fuca Strait). The city is accessible by airplane (year-round), cruise ships (seasonally) and ferries - including the Victoria Clipper ferry (regularly scheduled daily service Victoria-Seattle the whole year-round).

Besides Victoria BC, Alaska-based liners to Vancouver Island may also stop at Port Hardy (on the island's northeastern coast). Port Hardy (population around 4,000) has a natural resources-based economy as the gateway to Vancouver Island's best places for a travel vacation - Cape Scott Provincial Park, BC Marine Trail and North Coast Trail. All are located on the island's northernmost tip. The town provides access to popular wilderness vacation experiences and activities, such as kayaking, rafting, caving, scuba diving, surfing, nature camping.

Ferries from Port Hardy to Prince Rupert (on Kaien Island) depart every day during the summer's peak season.

For 2021-2027 is scheduled a CAD 3 billion dock expansion project aimed to double the existing Esquimalt Graving Dock's berthing space. The federal government/state-owned facility will be significantly upgraded to provide services (refits, repairs, and regular maintenance works) to passenger ships (cruisers and state ferries) as well as to Navy vessels. Currently, Seaspan (USA) and BC Ferries account for most of Esquimalt Dock's use.

For the period 2021-2030, the facility was booked for a total of 217 vessels, of which 34 cruise ships and only 27 operated by CCG-Canadian Coast Guard, Royal Canadian Navy or other federal agencies. The taxpayer-funded project also includes building a warehouse for Seaspan which operates the shipyards in Victoria and Vancouver.

Port Victoria BC

The Port (locode CAVIC) is managed by Greater Victoria Harbour Authority/GVHA.

The Port's cruise shipping operations started in 1978. Currently, the cruise port's contribution to the local economy is estimated at ~USD 130 million. The cruising season runs from April through October.

In 2014, the cruise port handled 210 ship calls and over 454,000 passengers. In 2016 were handled 224 ship calls. In 2017 were handled 239 ship calls (record year) with 600,000 passengers plus 239,000 crew. In 2018, the cruise port handled 243 ship calls and ~640,000 passengers plus ~260,000 crew.

In June 2017, the port welcomed its 7 millionth cruise ship tourist (since 1978), who arrived on Explorer of the Seas ( RCI-Royal Caribbean ). At the end of season 2017, the port started to provide ground transportation (cruise terminal bus service) via joint-venture with the local companies "CVS Tours" and "The Wilsons Group".

For season 2018, Port Victoria BC was upgraded with an extended mooring dolphin allowing berthing for the ever- largest Alaska-based cruise liner Norwegian Bliss ( NCL ). The vessel (max capacity 5200 passengers plus 1730 crew) was scheduled for an inaugural visit to Victoria BC on June 8, 2018. In 2018, the cruise port handled 250 ship calls, with nearly 640,000 passengers plus 230,000 crew.

In 2018, GreenPower Motor Company (Vancouver Canada-based manufacturer) sold two electric double-decker buses (model EV550) to the local CVS Tours company.

  • The new buses are primarily used for cruise passenger transportation from and to Ogden Point Terminal. The 5-year lease-purchase program was specifically designed for CVS Tours. In 2018, the port's bus shuttle service (between the terminal and downtown) was upgraded with new and quieter buses via partnership between GVHA, The Wilson's Group of Companies (Vancouver Island-based) and CVS Tours (sightseeing tour company based in Victoria BC).
  • The new bus deal resulted in forming a new joint venture company ("Pacific Northwest Transportation Services" / abbrev PNWTS) between Wilson’s and CVS Tours. The investment in new tour buses also consolidated companies' tour services offered from Ogden Point cruise terminal, The port authority signed an exclusive 10-year terminal access contract to PNWTS to provide cruise bus shuttle services on the terminal, as well as to supply all shore excursion buses.

Victoria BC cruise schedule has listed vessels from major Alaskan-based fleets, including Holland America , NCL-Norwegian , Disney , Princess , Carnival , Celebrity , as well as the luxury brands  RSSC-Regent , Oceania , Crystal , Seabourn , Ponant . Their ships usually stop in Victoria on relocation cruise itineraries (to and from Alaska). According to CLIA (Cruise Lines International Association), after Europe, Alaska is currently the world's second-leading cruise ship travel destination (excluding Asia).

On October 1, 2018, started works on the Ogden Point Cruise Terminal berth extension project to allow docking of Royal Caribbean's Quantum-Class liners (GT 200,000 tons, LOA length 348 m, max capacity 4800 passengers plus 1300 crew). The USD 6,8 million budgeted project was scheduled for completion by May 12, 2019, when Ovation of the Seas started its 2019 Alaskan program from homeport Seattle WA with 7-day roundtrips to Juneau , Skagway and Victoria BC. By this project was extended the port's existing cruise berth (by 55 m / 180 ft) and were added concrete bollard platforms and 2 breasting dolphins (fixed on each side of the extended pier). This structure assists in berthing (takes up some loads), also keeps the ship from pressing against the dock and serves as a mooring point (restricting the vessel's longitudinal movement). For the construction works was contracted Ruskin Construction Ltd.

In early-February 2019, was reported that Ogden Point Terminal's expansion project was impacted as the mooring dolphin's piles were lost at sea. The China-made steel structures were built for Pier B's 58-m extension. Construction works were scheduled to start in May but were rescheduled for September. The project was completed in 2020-Q1.

In April 2019, GVHA (Harbour Authority) and NCLH (Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd) signed a 12-year guaranteed berthing agreement (to 2030). The deal provided NCL with a guaranteed berth (during port calls) at Victoria Cruise Terminal's Pier A South.

In October 2019, over environmental concerns, Victoria BC's city council approved a motion to limit the number of visiting cruise vessels. In 10 years (2010-2019) the cruise shipping traffic increased from 212 ship visits (~440,000 passengers) to 265 calls (~1 million passengers plus crew). This industry generates ~USD 130 million annually.

For season 2019 (April 16 - October 25), the cruise port handled 257 ship calls (from scheduled 264) and 709,042 passengers (plus 294,956 crew). For maiden visits were booked the liners Ovation of the Seas  ( RCI ),  Queen Elizabeth  ( Cunard ) and  Azamara Quest  ( Azamara ). In June-October 2019, NCL repositioned Norwegian Joy  (sistership of  Norwegian Bliss ) homeporting it in Seattle for weekly calls at Victoria BC (scheduled for Saturdays). On May 17, 2019, at Ogden Point was welcomed cruise port's 8-millionth passenger. Meghan Lorenzon (from Davenport FL USA) was traveling together with her husband (Brent Petkus) on their honeymoon cruise on NCL Joy ship.

For season 2019 was planned to be completed the lengthening of Pier B (via a mooring dolphin) to allow berthing for the world's largest cruise vessels (RCI's Oasis-class, GT 225K tons). With a year delay, the project was completed in April 2020. Pier B's extension was delayed after in December 2018 was lost at sea the custom-fabricated (in China) steel for the dolphin's construction. Construction works included placing into the seabed (dockside) 2x steel monopiles (combined length 291 m / 955 ft) and 2x concrete platforms with reinforcement caps.

In mid-December 2020, GVHA announced that Victoria Cruise Terminal (Breakwater District) will be upgraded with shoreside power connections at Pier B (2 berths that handle ~2/3 of the cruise port's ship calls). When completed, the USD 24 million project will result in reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by over 46%.

For season 2020 (April 3 through October 21), the port had 284 booked berthings/ship calls by 12 companies, with estimated ~770,000 cruisers. However, the entire season was canceled due to the Coronavirus crisis.

For season 2022 (after a 2-year pause in operations), GVHA's cruise schedule (March thru October) listed 334 ship calls with estimated ~0,79 million tourists. Maiden port calls were booked for the large-sized liners Norwegian Encore (NCL), Quantum of the Seas (RCI), Majestic Princess (Princess).

In 2023, the Port reported a record season with handled 326 ship calls and ~970,000 tourists (+26% over 2022). Maiden visits made the liners Carnival Luminosa (CCL), Scenic Eclipse (Scenic USA) and L’Austral (Ponant). The season was also highlighted by the Port's 10-millionth cruiser.

Victoria BC cruise terminal

Victoria BC cruise port terminal is located at Ogden Point (distance to downtown approx 1,5 mi / 2,5 km). Victoria International Airport is approx 18 mi (29 km) from the passenger terminal. The address is "202–468 Belleville Street, Victoria, BC V8V 1W9, Canada".

Port Ogden Point has 2 cruise ship docks - "Pier A" and "Pier B". Each dock has two deepwater berths (with excellent approach and mooring) and its own Customs and Immigration. Currently, Ogden Point has capacity to accommodate three vessels simultaneously. However, each year there are several 4-ship and even 5-ship days, usually arriving within 1 hour of each other.

Since 2020, at Pier B can dock world's largest passenger ships (RCI's Oasis-class). The expanded facility allows berthing for vessels with max LOA length 350 m (1148 ft) and volume 225,000 GT-tons.

The passenger terminal's facilities include paved car parking, cargo storage areas, passenger gangways (embarkation/disembarkation ship-to-shore bridges), garbage disposal, baggage handling facility, freshwater, phones. At the cruise terminal's dockside, there are exchange bureaus and gift shops. Available are taxis and shuttle bus services to downtown. The distance is very walkable. Available for rent are bicycles. passengers can also use pedicabs and rickshaws, and even horse-drawn carriages.

In 2017, GVHA (Greater Victoria Harbour Authority) started planning minor cruise port upgrades to make Victoria BC a turnaround destination (homeport) for smaller-sized Alaskan ships departing on roundtrip itineraries.

  • Ogden Point cruise terminal (where vessels dock) would need minimal upgrades to become a homeport (by the year 2020). Port's statistics show that cruise tourism spending ashore (on hotels, restaurants, bars, etc) brings to city's economy between USD 40,000 and USD 2 million per ship (depending on vessel's size/capacity).
  • The draft plan for the port redevelopment project included building new commercial and retail facilities along Dallas Road (35-hectare sized property) and construction of a dedicated cruise terminal with an underneath parking garage (for tour buses). By the project will be built the First Nations (cultural and retail shopping complex), heliport, boat launch facilities, possible hotel (near breakwater's head).

On October 1, 2018, started works on the Ogden Point Cruise Terminal berth extension project to allow docking of Royal Caribbean 's Quantum-Class liners (GT 200,000 tons, LOA length 348 m, max capacity 4800 passengers plus 1300 crew). The USD 6,8 million project was scheduled for completion in May 2019 but postponed for November. By this project, Port's existing cruise berth was extended by 55 m (180 ft) and concrete bollard platforms and 2 breasting dolphins (fixed on each side of the extended pier) were added.

Everything to know about the Taylor Swift Eras Tour coming to Vancouver, BC

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

VANCOUVER, B.C. - ‘Are you ready for it?’ If you missed Taylor Swift's sold-out Eras Tour at Lumen Field in Seattle last year, you still have a chance to see her for three days in Vancouver, B.C. , but you'll have to wait until ‘Back to December.’

After the record-breaking success of her Eras Tour in the United States in 2023, Swift prevented a ‘Cruel Summer’ and added show dates in Europe and Canada for 2024.

Keep reading to learn more about Swift's upcoming shows in Vancouver, B.C.

When is Taylor Swift playing in Vancouver, B.C.?

The three shows in Vancouver, B.C. are scheduled for Friday, Dec. 6, Saturday, Dec. 7 and Sunday, Dec. 8. All shows are at the BC Place and will start at 7 p.m.

The Vancouver shows will end out the tour.

Where is Taylor Swift playing in Vancouver, BC?

The shows will take place at the BC Place (777 Pacific Boulevard, Vancouver, BC, Canada, V6B 4Y8). A reminder to Washingtonians that you will need a passport or enhanced ID to get into Canada.

BC Place advises that concertgoers arrive at least an hour before the event. With an act like Swift, it's advised to get there even earlier. Once inside, reentry will not permitted.

What is the seating capacity at BC Place?

The stadium has a 54,500 seat capacity.

Is BC Place a covered stadium?

BC Place has the largest retractable roof in the world, providing year-round comfort.

What can you take into the Taylor Swift concerts at BC Place?

Only clear bags, no larger than 12" x 12" x 6," are allowed into the venue. A small clutch purse or fannypack no larger than 6.5" x 8.5" is permitted.

Exceptions may be provided for diaper bags and medically necessary items that cannot fit into a clear bag. All bags are subject to search. Bag check service is available at events on a first-come-first-served basis at $10 per piece.

What items are prohibited from the Taylor Swift concerts at BC Place?

The following items are prohibited from the venue:

Backpack (including clear backpacks)

Binoculars case

Seat cushion

Non-clear belt bag over 6.5" x 8.5"

Tinted plastic bag

Printed pattern plastic bag

Non-clear tote bag

Container bag

You also are not allowed to bring the following to the venue: weapons, drugs, laser pointers, aerosol cans, alcohol, outside food or beverages, glass bottles, selfie sticks or noisemakers of any kind.

Where to park at the Taylor Swift concerts in Vancouver, BC

BC Place is located in downtown Vancouver’s stadium-district. The cost to park in the lots closest to the stadium during events range from $10 to $30. Other nearby parking lots vary from $3 to $6. Costs may increase with increased demand.

Whether you're arriving to the concert by car, bus or the Stadium/Chinatown Skytrain, you can visit the stadium's website for more information.

Does BC Place take cash?

The stadium is cashless payments only, so leave your cash at home.

How to get tickets to Taylor Swift's concerts in Vancouver, BC

As of this publication, Ticketmaster — the official site for tickets — shows no tickets available online for any of the three shows.

On third-party resell sites, the cheapest ticket in the nosebleeds is $1,093, and they are marked as having a "limit or obstructed view."

Use third-party sites or other selling platforms, like Facebook groups, at your own risk.

About the Eras Tour

The tour started on March 17, 2023, in Glendale, Arizona, and will consist of 152 shows across five continents and several countries.

It goes through Swift's entire discography, from her first album "Taylor Swift,: which was first released in 2006, to her latest album, "The Tortured Poets Department," which was released this year.

It is the highest-grossing tour of all-time. So much so that a bill was introduced in Washington earlier this year to strengthen anti-bot regulations and to crack down on scalpers, after Ticketmaster crashed and fans saw tickets as high as $10,000 resale in some places.

The legislation is called the Ticket Sales Warrant Integrity, Fairness and Transparency Act, or TSWIFT for short. It was introduced in the House but did not get any further this legislative session.

Here’s what House Bill 1648 would do:

Strengthen anti-bot regulations, making it harder for bots to purchase tickets before fans can get their hands on them.

Place limits on the resale of tickets

Require sellers to be transparent about the total cost of a ticket up-front, instead of adding fees at the end.

Taylor Swift in Seattle

When Swift came to Seattle in July 2023 , her back-to-back sold out shows had fans so excited that a 2.3 magnitude earthquake registered at Lumen Field , surpassing the infamous "Beast Quake" in 2011.

The Beast Quake was a seismic event that occurred at Lumen Field in 2011 when the Seattle Seahawk's Marshawn Lynch scored a touchdown during a playoff game. The crowd's celebration shook the ground at the stadium enough to register on seismometers.

Seismologist Jackie Caplan-Auerbach noted that despite the ground shaking during the Taylor Swift concert, the event was technically not an earthquake.

Caplan-Auerbach was quick to point out that the seismic data from the Beast Quake and Swift Quake may not be a fair comparison. She says that there is a chance that the ground-shaking activity from the Swifties could have been caused by the sound system, while the Beast Quake was likely caused solely by the Seahawk fans.

I guess I should show the data. Swifties > Seahawks fans. (except data from the concert may not be caused by the fans--it may be the sound system, so not really a fair comparison). pic.twitter.com/szwowOYQFi — Jackie Caplan-Auerbach 🇺🇦 🌻 (@geophysichick) July 27, 2023

30 years on, Sarah McLachlan tours Fumbling Towards Ecstasy

'there's a lot of emotional energy attached to this record for a lot of people,' singer-songwriter says.

A woman sits in front of a radio control board

Social Sharing

About 30 years ago, Canadian singer songwriter Sarah McLachlan released Fumbling Towards Ecstasy , her third studio album.

Now, she's going on tour  to pay tribute to the album that brought her so much success, but most of all, was written during a pivotal time in her life, and has made such an impact on her fans.

"I talked to a lot of people over the past couple months, talking about how [ Fumbling Towards Ecstasy ] got them through the university experience or got them through a breakup or a divorce or whatever," McLachlan said.

"I think there's a lot of emotional energy attached to this record for a lot of people. It'll be great to play it, start to finish."

The tour kicks off May 23 in Vancouver, where McLachlan has lived for over three decades.

She sat down for an interview with CBC's Gloria Macarenko, host of On The Coast, ahead of the tour.

Sarah McLachlan to kick off Fumbling Towards Ecstasy 30th anniversary tour in Vancouver

This interview has been edited for length and clarity.

How would you describe your relationship with this album?

It was my easiest album to make. I was unencumbered in so many ways. I had no partner. I had no children. I got to sequester myself away in the woods in the Laurentians in Quebec and just focus 150 per cent on music. It was also my third record so I had gotten the sophomore freak-out out of the way and was just able to really dig into it and enjoy it. There was a real freedom during that time for me. It was easy and fun and joyful and fun to go back and revisit. Many of these songs I've continued to play through the years, but there's probably four or five of them that I haven't played in 25 years.

  • How Sarah McLachlan turned the music industry on its head
  • Juno Awards host Sarah McLachlan on the music industry's 'unspoken rule' she battled to succeed

People don't play records in full. Nobody does that. They stream a whole bunch of different music. We used to really think hard on the emotional arc of a record and what song to put after the other one because you used to assume they all played as a whole.

You're playing 31 cities across North America in 44 days. How are you preparing for such a rigourous schedule?

I'm eating really healthily, which I do normally anyway. I'm getting a lot of exercise. I think for me, it's sleep. I need to sleep a lot. I'm very boring on the road. I don't talk much during the day to maintain my voice. I'm a little bit concerned about it only because I haven't done it in 10 years and I'm 10 years older. And there's many warranty issues that are now coming up as we age.

My mental energy, I have to sort of protect that a little bit. It's super fun and exciting, but it takes a lot of energy to put on a two-hour show every night and you know, just to recharge during the day is really important.

Sarah McLachlan, a white woman with shoulder-length brown hair, raises her arms in celebration while holding a mic.

This is a fundraiser for the Sarah McLachlan School of Music. What difference will the money raised make for the school?

We rely 100 per cent on donations from folks. I fund the administrative costs every year, but it's not a cheap program to run. It's completely free for children and youth in Vancouver facing barriers to access. It's been almost 22 years now that we've had this school and it's always been free. We have locations in Vancouver, Surrey and Edmonton now, and we have over 1,000 kids for the three schools.

  • Sarah McLachlan helps launch musical instrument lending library in Winnipeg

I love that we provide that opportunity for kids here in Vancouver. Music saved me. When I was growing up, I don't know what I would have done without it. I had lots of private music lessons. We had vibrant music programs in schools and a lot of kids don't have those opportunities these days. For me, recognizing the value and importance of a musical education for me, opening up my own emotional world and giving me a a sense of my own value and self worth, it was just paramount in my development as a human. To give kids that opportunity has just felt incredibly rewarding.

I understand you are recording a new album. What can you tell us about that?

I've been working with a producer named Tony Berg and he is fantastic in bringing together lots of young, vibrant, creative musicians.

I think we're probably going to finish it by October and hopefully have it out by May of next year. I know it seems like a long time, but it typically takes six months once the record's done to get it out to the people.

A woman sits at a piano

In an interview that you did recently with the Canadian Press, you talked about not being political, but whether you have that luxury of being apolitical anymore.

I don't think any of us can be apolitical anymore. I think there's such division going on in the world and so much radicalizing of both sides. We have to figure out how to work together. I think music is an amazing bridge for that.

  • These '90s singer-songwriters kicked down the door for shameless feminism and vulnerability

I think I had a lot of fear coming back into this. I suppose maybe I still do, just about speaking my mind and going to America and getting shot for it just because people are angry and afraid and they're not not necessarily behaving in a civilized manner sometimes. So sure, I have a little bit of fear about it but I have to speak my mind. If someone asked me a direct question, I'm going to answer.
