On a recent overnight in Wyoming’s Wind River Range, I tested the Forclaz Trek 100 Easyfit 50L Hiking Backpack by Decathlon which proved a lightweight and comfortable option.

The thought and care put into designing this pack to make it efficient in terms of both features and function is evident. Here are some of the features that stood out:

Easyfit Adjustability

I took the Decthalon Forclaz Trek 100 Easyfit 50L Hiking Backpack on a trip to Wyoming’s Wind River Range. I’m always wary when trying new packs out as they often pull and tug at my shoulders, but I was pleased with how the Forclaz sat on hips.

While carrying a heavy set-up with a full rack and rope, the pack comfortably distributed the load in the proper places.

The shoulder straps are adjustable and can be adjusted by sliding them on the aluminum plates on the back of the pack. The red straps on the side of the pack can be pulled while wearing the pack which made for easy adjustment on the trail.

Compartment Layout

The Forclaz Trek 100 Easyfit 50L Hiking Backpack boasts a thoughtful compartment design. There are five separate compartments in the pack not including the water pouch storage on the side which securely holds a liter bottle. I was most impressed with the center compartment which zips down from the top; this made packing and unpacking gear easy and effortless.

The compartment on the hip belt was the perfect size for snacks and can hold a phone or small or other small personal items for easy access. It’s also worth mentioning that the water bottle pouch on the side was made to last.

It is made with the same durable material as the rest of the pack and securely holds a Nalgene sized bottle (no need to worry about losing your bottle on those steeper, scrambly sections).

Overall Impression

Overall, I appreciated the simplicity of the pack and I truly felt the layout of the compartments made organizing gear a smooth and satisfying process. The Forclaz Trek 100 Easyfit 50L Hiking Backpack is a lightweight pack that is an ideal option for anyone looking for a comfortable pack for a weekend backpacking trip. The pack can be purchased here from Decathlon for an astoundingly reasonable price of $119.00 .

This pack is well worth the money. The Easyfit design feature allows the user to adjust the pack to fit securely, and allows for an enjoyable experience on the trail. Used it for my 3 months pf bagpacking trip. It was very comfortable and light

The price is excellent. Shoulder straps are unfortunately uncomfortable for me on longer treks. But for light/occasional use, excellent.

Nothing to complain about as a product. But when purchasing the products, I was made aware of a voucher for purchases over 400 Ron. But for now NOTHING.

Our experience with this backpack was disappointing. After just three uses, the zipper broke, rendering the backpack useless during a crucial outdoor expedition. Thank that the DofE organization had an spare one to complete the Silver Practice. The design, featuring a large zipper from top to bottom, seemed practical at first, but the poor quality of the zipper made it unreliable. I cannot recommend this backpack for outdoor hikes or expeditions due to its unreliable design and subpar zipper quality. The rest of the backpack looked sturdy but now its useless.

It is useful and has very good back grip.

It's a good practical bag with compartmentalization. However, you need to know it well in order to distribute it and adjust it ideally. It took me a little while to understand all the settings.

practical and light, well suited

I used the backpack for a 5-day tour, as I went from accommodation to accommodation, but the tent, sleeping bag and cooking utensils could stay at home. The size was just right, with a little space left for spontaneous souvenirs and a large lunch box. The bottle holder proved to be very practical, and I could fit a spare 1.5 liter bottle in the open side compartment. The size was also ideal for my purposes, given the weight of the backpack when fully packed, around 12-13kg including water. The large zipper on the front makes it easier to find things and put them away in the evening, similar to a travel bag. The only small criticism: the lower end of this zipper should be secured against accidental opening with a snap fastener (as above). Nothing happened, but then you could skip the regular checks. Oh yes, unfortunately a current smartphone doesn't fit in the pocket on the hip belt, it could be a bit bigger.

Used it for more than 5 multi day treks it's good quality and comfortable bag.

Easyfit system

Our patented Easyfit system allows you to adjust the torso height and strap tension simultaneously by pulling on one single strap (on each side). 1. Put on your bag2. Buckle and tighten the belt3. Pull the handles (from bottom to top) It’s adjusted!

50 L volume. The volume of each backpack is measured using a standardised method. we use small balls to fill the main compartment as well as each pocket. The balls are then emptied into a graduated container in order to determine the equivalent volume in litres, with a margin of error of just a few %.

How to pack a backpack?

Put your bedding at the bottom. Put heavy gear (tent, camp stove, food) near your back. Store your clothing around it. A groundsheet or tent can be placed under the flap or under the bag if there isn't room inside. Keep your waterproof jacket and fleece to hand. Place small items for daily use (sun cream, map, glasses etc.) in the pockets. The water bladder can be placed in the compartment provided down the back.

Golite Jam Light and tough.  

Nigor Zero-G, the 'spititual successor' to the above Golite Jam. At 53L and 1.1kg and tough and versatile - it's a good package for a rigid pack. Used it for 5 years now for 8kg-12kg loads. Currently looking to replace it with a lighter pack (around 750g) in the 40-45L range (tempted by @FOX160 's Hyberg among others). The structure of your new 1.9kg 70L Decathlon reminds me of my old Berghaus C7 65+10L pack, which was similarly weighty. My experience is that if you use a larger pack you find more stuff to put inside it! I've always been happy with Decathlon packs. My 3 season camping pack is still the 38L Forclaz UL. Well made packs. My winter pack was the 60L Symbium Access 60 + 10. and that was a great carry despite it being a weighty beast. Only after a few back problems I opted for a lighter pack to see me on my winter travels.

Volume of 50 liters (3051.2 in³). The volume of each backpack is measured using a standardized method: We fill the main compartment as well as each pocket with little balls. The balls are then emptied into a graduated container in order to determine the equivalent volume in liters, with a margin of error of just a few %.

How to pack a backpack?

Put your bedding at the bottom. Near your back, place heavy equipment (tent, stove, food). Pack your clothes around these items. A ground sheet or tent mat can be placed under the flap or the bag (add straps) if they cannot be fitted inside. Keep a waterproof jacket and fleece at hand. In the pockets, place small items for the day (sunscreen, map, glasses...). The water bladder can be placed in the compartment generally provided down the back

Why are our rain covers gray when some trekkers want them to be brightly colored?

The gray color is neutral and therefore uses less dye. The component is made of BITON: this process allows us to lower our CO2 impact and reduce consumption and water pollution in comparison to colored models. These small measures demonstrate the commitment of Forclaz to improve the environmental impact of its products.

10-year warranty

Our engineers have conducted tests simulating the aging of rucksacks. These tests are conducted on the components, seams and finished product. The results enable Forclaz to guarantee the tested bags for 10 years from the purchase date shown on the receipt

Prep Time: 5 minutes Serves: 1

Ingredients:

• 2 oz. rye whiskey 
• 4 oz. ginger beer 
• ½ tbsp. lemon juice 
• 1 tsp amaretto 
• Lemon twist 

Instructions:

• Place ice in a glass, then add whiskey, lemon juice, and amaretto. 
• Top with ginger beer and give a quick stir. 
• Garnish with the lemon twist and enjoy. 

Canadian Moscow Moose Cocktail 

Prep Time: 5 minutes Serves: 2

• 3 oz. Canadian rye whiskey 
• 1 oz. haskap liqueur 
• 1 oz. fresh lime juice 
• 0.5 0z. maple syrup 
• 1 tsp ginger beer
• 4 dashes apple bitters 
• Put crushed ice in a mug, then add the rye whiskey, lime, haskap liqueur, and maple syrup. Top with ginger beer.
• Add bitters. 
• Garnish with ginger and serve.

Apple bitters give this Canadian drink a flavor profile different from all the other varieties of Moscow Moose cocktail. They also enhance the aromas in the cocktail, exposing hints of lime, whiskey, liqueur, and ginger. Apple bitters balance out the sourness in the rye whiskey and lime, which is suitable for you if you would love a cocktail that’s a little bit lightly flavored. • 2 tbsp. birch beer

In this recipe, the red birch beer adds taste as well as color, making the drink all the more irresistible. The blueberries bring a sweet tartness into the mix and, the fresher they are, the more juice they produce. This makes for an even richer cocktail. 

Not only will you be making your Moscow Moose more flavorful with these berries, but you’ll also be reaping their health benefits. Ginger Beer Recipe

Prep Time: 3 hours Ready In: 3 days

• ¼ cup grated ginger root, peeled 
• ½ tsp. cream of tartar 
• ¼ cup lemon juice 
• 1 cup sugar
• 1 tsp. dry yeast 
• Combine the ginger, lemon juice, and cream of tartar in a large pot. Add 4 cups of water and bring the mixture to boil. 
• Reduce heat, add sugar, then stir and simmer until it’s fully dissolved. Remove from the heat. 
• Add 40 ounces (5 cups) of water to the pot. Leave it to cool down to 23°c. Add yeast and stir. 
• Cover the pot with a clean cloth or towel, then store away from light in a warm place for 3 hours. 
• Using a strainer to remove bits of ginger, transfer the mixture into a pitcher.
• Fill into glass bottles, only 2/3 full to allow for fermentation. Leave to ferment for 3 days. 
• Refrigerate to prevent further fermenting, or put in room temperature for more fermentation.
