21 SAFARI NURSERY IDEAS

Safari-themed wall murals.

When decorating a safari-themed nursery, murals can add a sense of adventure and wonder. From lush jungle scenes to playful animal prints, there are a variety of safari-themed mural options to choose from. A safari mural can be a great way to create a focal point in the room and set the tone for the rest of the decor. Whether you choose a colorful mural or a more subtle and naturalistic one, a safari mural can inspire your little one's imagination and sense of adventure. And the best part? A mural can be a relatively easy and affordable idea to transform a nursery into a wild and wonderful oasis.

Safari Nursery Wallpaper

Decorating a playful and beautiful safari-inspired nursery can be made easy with safari wallpaper designs. You can opt for all-over safari wallpaper or use it as an accent wall to create a unique and dynamic space. The key is to select a wallpaper design that complements the baby's room.

Animal Prints

Animal prints bring playfulness and whimsy to a safari-themed nursery. From leopard spots to zebra stripes, there are a variety of animal prints to choose from, each with its unique character and charm. Animal print accents can be incorporated into nursery decor in countless ways, from bedding and curtains to pillows and wall art. Go bold with a statement animal print wallpaper, or keep it subtle with a few animal print accents scattered throughout the room.

Jungle-Inspired Wall Hangings

Jungle-inspired wall hangings can be a great way to bring the lush greenery and exotic beauty of the jungle into a safari-themed nursery. Jungle-inspired wall hangings such as woven tapestries add texture, color, and visual interest to the nursery decor while creating a sense of depth and dimensionality.

Bold and Colorful Accent Walls

An accent wall is an easy and affordable way to add personality to a safari nursery. Painting in bold, adventurous colors such as greens, oranges, and browns can inject energy and style into a safari-themed nursery. Take a more classic route with a simple solid color, painting a bold accent wall to create a focal point in the room and set the stage for the rest of the decor.

Natural Wood and Earthy Tones

Incorporating natural wood and earthy tones can be a great way to create a warm and inviting atmosphere in a safari-themed nursery. From wooden cribs and dressers to woven baskets and rugs made from natural fibers, there are many ways to incorporate these elements into the decor. Natural wood furniture can add warmth and texture to the space, while earthy tones like greens, browns, and beiges can create a sense of calm and tranquility.

Tribal-Inspired Decorative Elements

Incorporating tribal-inspired decorative elements can add a sense of cultural richness and depth to a safari-themed nursery. From woven baskets and textiles to carved wooden figurines and masks, tribal-inspired decor items can work well in a nursery design.

Safari-Inspired Lighting and Lamps

Adding safari-inspired lighting and lamps can add a sense of adventure and whimsy to a safari-themed nursery. You can also incorporate lighting that mimics the warm glow of a sunset or the soft light of a campfire to create a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Adding dimmer switches can also be a great way to adjust the lighting to fit your little one's needs, whether for quiet-time or playtime.

Safari-Themed Storage

Safari-themed storage solutions come in many shapes and sizes and can help elevate your nursery. From wall-mounted shelves to cute animal-shaped cubbies and animal-inspired storage bins, they provide practical storage solutions to help keep everything organized and tidy.

Safari-Inspired accessories and accents

Safari-inspired nursery accessories and accent pieces can give a playful and adventurous vibe. Add a touch of whimsy by incorporating animal-shaped pillows, plush toys, or safari-themed mobiles above the crib. Using natural materials like bamboo or rattan can add a sense of authenticity to the decor while also feeling playful. Adding a vintage safari trunk or suitcase as a decorative piece can also be a great way to add a sense of history and adventure to the room. Whether it's a roaring lion, a gentle giraffe, or a majestic elephant, safari-inspired elements can add a touch of magic to your baby's nursery, making it a space that both you and your little one will cherish.

Animals take center stage when you’re designing a safari-themed nursery. Set baby up to take a sunny adventure through the jungle with some lovable furry friends every day.

When looking for safari nursery décor, you can get really cute and playful here with silly accents (like a swinging monkey clock) and bright colors (oranges, greens, and yellows). But blacks, whites, and grays also add nice touches to a neutral room, too.

Don’t be shy about taking the jungle look as far as you want to. Simply add a few accents, like a rug or wall art, or go all the way with lively wall decals, window treatments, and attention-grabbing stuffed animals . Here’s what will take your safari nursery over the top.

Why trust us?

He’s cute and he’s here to hang! This monkey clock is the perfect addition to dress up a wall of the nursery. Shaped like a monkey swinging on a tree branch, he looks as if he’s ready for some serious playtime. The clock is lightweight and easy to hang up, plus requires just one battery to operate.

  • Weight: 1.76 pounds
  • Dimensions: 16 x 11.5 x 1.76 inches

Let's Make Baby Crib Mobile

The minimalist wind chime-style mobile will add a lot of charm to baby’s room. Secure the wooden top to a mobile hanger or ceiling and watch the handmade stars, pom poms, and cutest knitted elephant you ever did see dance around above the crib. Neutral gray and white go with any color scheme. Parents love the little bells in the mobile that give off a gentle, pleasing jingle sound that little ones love.

  • Weight: 6.7 ounces
  • Dimensions: 6.18 x 6.18 x 1.93 inches

The changing pad cover says it all — your baby is your heart. The gray cover features a white elephant blowing little floating hearts all the way up to the top. A 100 percent polyester material is surprisingly soft, and you can toss it in the wash for easy cleanup. Parents love how the plush fabric seems to soothe baby during diaper changes.

  • Dimensions: 16 x 32 inches

Handcrafted in India, this 100 percent wool rug will feel good under little one’s toes — and it’ll look great, too. All playfully jumping around, the lion, leopard, tiger, and cheetah add a colorful, dynamic pop to any nursery. Plus, you’ve got the cool circular rug — 5-feet in diameter — that’s big enough to make a focal point in the room.

  • Dimensions: 5-foot diameter

Melissa & Doug Lifelike 3-Foot Plush Standing Baby Giraffe Stuffed Animal

Talk about a showstopper. The giant giraffe has been a classic gift for babies (yes, really) for years. And for good reason: He’s cute, he’s cuddly, and he’s pretty big. Three feet tall to be exact. But with those big eyes, long eyelashes, and little tufts on his head, baby will be happy he’s in her corner.

  • Weight: 3.6 pounds
  • Dimensions: 33.05 x 22.45 x 11.8 inches
  • Age/weight limit: Recommended for ages 4 and up. Make sure to supervise babies during play.

Sammy & Lou Crib Bedding Set – Jungle Pals

This bedding set comes with four pieces: a quit, crib skirt, fitted crib sheet, and stuffed toy elephant. Both the crib skirt and quilt are designed with cute and colorful baby jungle animals, including a giraffe, lion, elephant, and alligator. The gender-neutral pastels give a safari themed nursery a softer look. Parents love how nice the quilt feels, noting that it’s something baby will love for a long time.

  • Dimensions: 28 x 52 inches (crib sheet), 35 x 45 inches (quilt), crib skirt has 14-inch drop
  • Age/weight limit: Infants should not sleep with quilts or toys

Oopsy Daisy Eric Carle's Elephant Mother Canvas Wall Art

An Eric Carle illustration of a mama and baby elephant is sure to tug at your heart strings. The greens, blues, and grays in this picture add a touch of color to any room. It’s also produced with your little one in mind — the ink used is GREENGUARD Gold certified, too. Available in two sizes that are perfectly fitting above a crib, changing station, or bookshelf.

  • Weight: 1 or 1.75 lbs
  • Dimensions: 18 x 14 x 1.5 inches or 24 x 18 x 1.5 inches

Just peel and stick and you’re good to go. These safari-themed decals are bright and colorful and feature a flock of fun animals, from monkeys to lions, birds, monkeys, and zebras. Easily place them around the top or middle of any room as a border, or make a silly scene on a wall. The package comes with 47 decals that can be removed and stuck again, no problem.

  • Decals arrange in size from 1.3 x 1.4 to 9.3 x 12.5 inches

Lambs & Ivy Me & Mama White/Gray Elephant Nursery Lamp

Mommy and me. A gray mom and baby elephant lovingly look at each other at the base of this small lamp. Complementing the base is a shade that’s white with a black zig-zag design. Parents point out that though this is small, it emits just the right amount of light you want for middle-of-the-night wake-ups. Bonus: It comes with an energy-efficient light bulb, too.

  • Weight: 2.15 pounds
  • Dimensions: 7 x 7 x 13.75 inches

These little animals are ready to steal your heart with this set of four ready-to-hang prints. The adorable faces and fun colors bring a happy vibe into the room. Ready to hang, these are also lightweight, so they’re easy to get up onto a wall.

  • Weight: 1.2 pounds
  • Dimensions: 14.06 x 2.0 x 11.13 inches (overall); 11 x 11 inches each

This window valance completes the safari theme in the nursery. Friendly monkeys, snakes, lions, hippos, and giraffes are all happily hanging out on the white fabric. The valance is super easy to push through a window rod for effortless install. It’s machine washable, so you can also keep it looking like new for a long time.

  • Dimensions: 54 x 15 inches (requires a 0.75-inch rod pocket diameter)

Bring the outside in with this set of three large, leaf-printed storage baskets. Stash baby blankets, toys, books, or diaper supplies in these sturdy linen bins. Each bin is also outfitted with two natural rope handles for easy pick-up. Parents say that they hold up so well, you can use them through multiple kids.

  • Weight: 1.8 pounds
  • Dimensions: 16.3 x 12.2 x 4 inches

Gang’s all here! A zebra, bunny, giraffe, and lion cartoon wall decals keep careful watch over baby. The decal comes as one large vinyl for you to position, peel, and stick. (Some parents cut these apart for alternate options for positioning and to make application easier.) Overall, happy parents say these are worth the little extra effort required to install.

  • Dimensions: 17 x 44 inches (each decal is 8 inches to 15 inches in length)

Time for lots of snuggles on this tummy time play mat. Shaped like a giraffe, it’s the perfect size for baby to lay down on and reach for the animal’s ears or horns. You can move this around the room or into the next room. It’s soft, cuddly, and incredibly cute. Easy to wipe clean, too, which is essential.

  • Weight: 1.6 pounds
  • Dimensions: 3.5 x 24 x 35 inches

Safari Nursery Decor – 32 Ideas Perfect for your Wild Child!

When I was just a baby, I don't think my nursery had a theme, let alone a safari nursery decor! Maybe it wasn't as popular back then, but I'm pretty sure my nursery was the same as my two brothers before me. Probably had some hockey sticks and football posters around.

Nowadays, there are so many fun ideas out there for decorating a nursery, and with the help of the internet, we can continue to be inspired by theme after theme. So now it's your turn to decide on a theme for your own little one's nursery. There are a lot of directions you can go.

A deer themed nursery , an “under the sea” design, or what about a jungle safari? Oh! You liked that last idea did you? In that case, you are going to want to check out these 32 safari nursery decor ideas that are perfect for your soon-to-be wild child.

1. Born to be Wild

Your adventurous little one will be born to be wild and free in their very own safari themed nursery. A green and white color scheme, with fun wall paint, animal stuffies, and fun paper foliage.

2. Neutral wallpaper

Create an accent wall in your baby nursery with a neutral safari themed wallpaper. Delicate palm leaf patterns decorate the wall like the thick foliage of the jungle trees. Then, add in some jungle animal prints, and why not some real plants for a breath of fresh air.

3. Decorate with Jungle Leaves

Find places to add extra green around the safari nursery to really turn it into a lush jungle. Hang vines and leaves amongst the nursery furniture, framing shelves, and wrapped around mirrors. Thus, taking your safari nursery decor to a whole new level.

4. Safari Mural

Just like when you take a safari ride in Africa, you will stumble upon a wide array of animals in enormous sizes and impressive colors. A wall mural is a great way to easily recreate that epic scene.

5. Elephant Rug

You don't necessarily have to use an elephant, any jungle animal will do when picking out a fun little rug for your nursery. Although I must say, the elephant is pretty dang cute!

6. Giraffes

Decorate your beautiful baby's nursery with giraffe decorations. Prints, stuffed animals, and small decor pieces can be added around the room to really bring some safari life to the room.

7. Safari Animal Prints

It's amazing how far some simple prints can go. You can completely transform a room and really put together a theme by adding in some prints that match said theme. An easy and effective decorating technique.

Combine two different techniques, by painting the walls with leaves and then adding in homemade 3D ones. Besides, making those leaves is a super fun craft project that you can do on the weekend with your friends.

9. Monkey Curtains

Get some help from your safari friends around the new nursery. A sweet monkey can help you do the job of pulling back the curtains so you can let the light in on your newborn's face.

10. Elephant Hamper

Another safari friend that can help out is the reliable elephant. He's great at helping you keep the nursery organized and clean. A fun woven hamper that you can use to throw anything dirty into.

11. Brown and White

I adore this neutral color scheme that is perfect for any gender baby. The deep browns and white work great together and give a bright and earthy feel. Also, the decorating is done perfectly! An elephant mounted on the wall surrounded by images of maps and animals.

12. Palm Leaf Bedding

You can find all sorts of ways in your decorating to add that safari feel. The bedding is an easy way to add some color and design into the nursery. Try to look for crib bedding with safari animals, African landscapes, or jungle leaves.

13. Bookends

Playful decor pieces like elephant and giraffe bookends make designing and furnishing your nursery a sitch. Keep your eyes peeled for items like this when shopping online or at local stores around town.

14. Banana Leaf Playmats

Like rolling around on the jungle floor (without all the dirt) a lushly decorated playmat is a wonderful accessory to look for. The fun green banana leaves are stylish and fit perfectly with the theme.

15. Green and Yellow

I think green and yellow make for a charming color scheme when picking out tones for your safari themed nursery. Yellow like the spots on a towering giraffe and green like the lush foliage of a jungle scene.

16. Animal Heads

What a fun idea! Unique styles of animal heads up on the wall watching over your little baby in their precious slumber. I really like how it looks on that banana leaf background which really makes the heads stand out.

17. Zebras and Antelopes

Happy dancing zebras prance in lines along the walls while antelope heads pop out to say hello. I adore how this room came together for a lovely mix of cute and trendy.

18. Safari Mobile

As your baby opens their eyes each morning they will be greeted with happy safari animals pirouetting above them. Definitely lookout for a cute mobile that matches the theme as the perfect safari nursery accessory.

19. Growth Chart

Yes, yes, and double yes! A super awesome idea for keeping track of the growth of your little one. Watch them grow taller and taller matching the height of the safari animals that have kept them company all this time.

20. Safari Animal Hardware

I remember having little animal friends that I would play with in the bathtub and I absolutely adored them! So, I'm definitely on board with this creative idea of adding animal toys to the furniture as hardware. A simple yet effective idea.

21. A Sophisticated Look

This safari themed nursery doesn't have that little kid feel as so many others do. This feels like a room that is adult-friendly as well. Besides, you as the adults will be spending just as much time in there as the children!

22. Figurines

Really have fun when picking out safari animal figurines. The look is definitely trending right now so it should be easy to find a variety of different styles and looks that you can use. In my opinion, the more safari nursery decor, the merrier!

23. Elephant Light

Look for a nightlight that will help you in the middle of the night when the crying starts, but that also fits the theme. Safari nursery decor should not only be stylish, but functional too.

24. Happy Lions

I am obsessed with this happy lion rug! I actually want one for my own room, let alone for any future safari nursery. The soft yellows and oranges make for a cheery, bright, and chic nursery.

25. Palm Leaves

As if your baby was dreaming away in a lush bush of jungle foliage. They are sure to have imaginative and happy dreams, and you as well are going to have happy nights watching them sleep.

26. Giraffe Hanger

Safari nursery decor pieces that are made out of natural material, such as woven bamboo or straw, is truly an extra. When you picture a safari, you probably imagine those open grasslands and dense jungles, all sprawling with flora and fauna. So, bring those natural elements to your decorating.

27. Elephant Rocker

I definitely remember falling asleep quite a few times on my horse rocker when I was a wee little one. Rockers are a great element to have in a nursery, and an elephant one really works with the safari vibes.

28. Safari Animal Clock

Maybe your baby will start telling time at an early age with such a fun little clock in their nursery. Or, you know, maybe they will just gaze and wonder about the interesting animals displayed.

29. Wall Vinyls

Painting a mural on the wall is fun and all, but an easier option is to buy some wall vinyl displaying fun safari scenes. The elephant and lion go happily marching amongst the foliage with a monkey friend keeping them (and your baby) in good company.

30. Stuffie Hammock

This is perfect! Instead of using your traditional ol' toy box to throw all the plush friends into, a corner hammock is a much more fitting idea. That way, these toys are still on display as fun safari nursery decor when not being played with.

31. Giraffe Bookshelf

People continue to impress me with their clever ideas. A giraffe makes a perfect bookshelf with their long necks! A great addition to the nursery so you can start to collect good night stories to read them into a deep slumber.

32. Sleep Safari Wallpaper

Sleepy safari animals are resting their tired eyes on this adorable wallpaper. I love the hints of yellow throughout the images making it a perfect accent color when planning the color scheme.

Sharing is caring!

NURSERY ROOM DECOR: Safari Themed Nursery Room

When it comes to designing your child’s nursery, there are endless possibilities! If you’re looking for a fun safari-themed nursery then, here are some ideas to get you started. Find some safari nursery decor to bring your nursery to life.

Are you as excited as I am?

Why Create a Safari Theme Nursery?

If you love safari animals and the idea of a safari nursery, it can be a great theme because safari animals are somewhat gender-neutral.

Just picture a room with grey elephants, monkeys, lions, and giraffes. Not to mention all of the vibrant colors that come with a safari theme. So, whether you’re having a boy or girl, safari animals can be a great choice for your nursery.

How to Create a Safari Nursery Theme

There are many different ways to create a safari nursery. You can use animal prints, safari colors, and safari décor to get the look you want.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

Safari Nursery Walls

For the walls, consider using a safari wallpaper border or mural. You could also paint an animal scene on one or more of the walls. For example, you might want to have safari wallpaper on three walls and a large mural or decal as a feature wall.

Wall decals depicting safari animals and trees would create a great safari-themed room. You could also use stickers of safari animals or trees.

If you’re feeling adventurous, try a stencil of a safari animal or scene on one of the walls. That would be great. However, if you want something already designed there are plenty of  nursery room  wall stickers out there to choose from.

Safari Themed Nursery Furniture

When it comes to furniture, you can go with safari-themed pieces and safari nursery decor or simply add some safari touches to otherwise normal furniture.

Exploring nature and animal wall arts is another creative way to create a safari theme. Versatile options like colorful lion wall arts capture a lot about the animal kingdom to give a lift to the safari–theme room. They also add a bright glow and elegance to the general appearance.

Here are some great safari-themed pieces of furniture:

Safari Changing Table

If you get a changing table for your safari nursery, consider one that has animals on it or at least features safari colors. You could also look for a Safari changing mat like the one below.

A safari crib is a great choice for a safari nursery. It can be as simple as having animals or trees painted on it, or you can go with an actual safari-themed crib that has fabrics and designs featuring safari animals and landscapes.

A lion or elephant blanket would look great in your little ones’ crib. Have a search online to find cute safari bed sheets and bedding.

Safari Themed Animal Print Rug

When it comes to picking out the best furniture pieces for your safari-themed nursery, consider picking ones that are safari-like in color or theme. For example, you could use an animal print rug as a floor mat.

Having a nursery rug is a great idea because it makes the floor more comfortable for the baby. It could also help keep your child warm at night or even be used as a soft play area during the day.

Adding  themed touches to your nursery’s  window treatments is a great way to complete the safari look in your child’s room.

Consider purchasing safari animals for your nursery mobile. You could have musical, plush safari animals, or simply stuffed lions, elephants, and giraffes.

If you do purchase a musical mobile for your baby’s room, throw some safari animal sound effects on it so you can choose between hearing jungle sounds or safari noises.

Just imagine a safari mobile hanging over the crib with cute elephants, a monkey, a giraffe, and a lion. This would be so super cute for any gender baby to enjoy. It would look great in a baby boy or girl’s nursery.

21 Safari Nursery Ideas

Safari-themed nurseries have a fun and adventurous feel to them, calling to mind the natural wonders of the savanna. Cute animal and stunning plant-themed decor pieces are prominent features of this theme, which both you and your little one will enjoy looking at. You can even use the theme to give them a hands-on education about the savanna and the different animals that live there.  That being said, there are many options for safari-themed decor out there, so where should you begin? Take a look at this list of safari nursery ideas for some inspiration.

1) Safari Milestone Blanket

ideas for safari nursery

Sometimes it feels like babies grow up so fast. Always remember the milestones in your baby’s growth with this milestone blanket. It’s a great background for photos since you can use the circle marker to indicate how many months old your baby is. But it doesn’t just make a good photo prop — since it’s a soft blanket with a cute safari design, you can throw it over your nursery rocker as a regular throw blanket. You can buy this milestone blanket from Amazon.

2) Safari Animal Wall Hooks

ideas for safari nursery

Wall hooks are perfect for your little one’s outfits, accessories, and pajamas. Since they’re on the wall, it makes it easy to grab what you need and go. Plus, these cute wall hooks are almost decor in and of themselves with the cute animal designs. You can buy these wall hooks from Amazon.

3) Felt Safari Animals DIY

With some felt, cotton, and a bit of sewing, you can make all kinds of safari animals. Elephants, lions, zebras, and more are all waiting for you in this video. If you decide to make some, they’re great for incorporating into many DIY decor pieces, like garlands.

4) Lion Night Light

ideas for safari nursery

This little lion nightlight is far from ferocious, but it’s still great for keeping you safe when walking around at night. If there’s a stray toy on the floor, the darkness can be a tripping hazard. Plus, a night light makes it easier to see when you’re trying to feed or comfort your baby in the middle of the night. A nightlight like this one is truly a nursery nighttime essential. You can buy this night light from Amazon.

5) Safari Animal Motivational Wall Signs

ideas for safari nursery

Decor can be just as inspiring as it is beautiful, just like with these wooden wall signs. While they are small in size, you can put them together for an eye-catching display. They also work well as accents for other decor pieces, whether they’re paintings, wooden cut-outs, or otherwise. You can buy these wooden wall signs from Amazon.

6) Giraffe Rug

ideas for safari nursery

Large, soft rugs are a great item to have in nurseries. They make the room feel more cozy (especially if you have hard floors), they tie in the floors with the overall theme, and they’re also great for your baby. They can do tummy time, roll around, and play in a comfortable spot. You can buy this giraffe rug from Etsy .

7) Baby Safari Animal Prints

ideas for safari nursery

These baby safari animal prints are super adorable. Since there’s six of them, you can use them to take the guesswork out of a nursery gallery wall, or you can place them around the nursery to give it a cohesive look. You can buy these prints from Amazon .

8) Safari Stuffed Animals

ideas for safari nursery

Whether you plan on putting them in a toy basket, a toy net, or on a nursery rocker, these safari stuffed animals tie in with the theme while also being fun for your little one. You can buy these safari stuffed animals from Amazon .

9) Safari Animal Panorama Wall Decor

ideas for safari nursery

Wide wall decor pieces or displays with multiple pieces of wall decor often look best above a crib. This safari animal panorama is super wide, making it the perfect size. It looks both eye-catching and adorable with the cute baby safari animals. You can buy this panorama art from Etsy .

10) Safari Animal Wall Decor

ideas for safari nursery

Looking for some minimalist decor to add to the nursery walls? These safari wooden cut-outs fit the bill perfectly. Since they’re just outlines of the animals, they have a simple look to them. At the same time, they contrast with the different wood colors on each of them, making them visually interesting when put together. You can buy these wooden art pieces from Amazon .

11) Safari Animal Mobile

ideas for safari nursery

Besides stuffed animals, mobiles are another thing both you and your baby will enjoy. The spinning motion of the animals combined with the music can be very soothing to babies. Plus, it acts as a bit of decor to spruce up your baby’s crib. You can buy this mobile from Amazon .

12) Safari Animal Paper Craft DIY

Just some paper, glue, scissors, and googly eyes are all you need for these adorable paper animals. And with some tape, they’re easy enough to hang up as wall decor.

13) Giant Giraffe Stuffed Animal

ideas for safari nursery

Some small decor items here and there are nice, but what if you want a giant, eye-catching focal piece? Don’t worry, this giraffe has you covered. Standing at just under 5 feet tall, this giant giraffe is perfect for adding a realistic spin to your little one’s safari nursery. You can buy this giraffe plush from Amazon.

14) Safari Laundry Basket

ideas for safari nursery

Laundry baskets are great for turning messy piles on the floor into a clean, organized space — whether that pile is toys, dirty clothes, or anything else you want to keep tucked away. This cute laundry basket has a minimalist look, so it won’t take much attention away from nursery decor. At the same time, it still fits perfectly with the theme thanks to the cute animals on it. You can buy this laundry basket from Amazon.

15) Swinging Monkey DIY

Here’s yet another craft that uses simple materials. This swinging monkey would make a great piece of wall decor if you tie a piece of string to either end of the stick. Due to its small size, it would also work as a door sign.

16) Monkey Clock

ideas for safari nursery

While monkeys are often thought of as jungle animals, some species are actually found in the savanna as well, such as vervet monkeys. This little factoid gives you the perfect excuse to add in some adorable monkey decor like this monkey wall clock to your little one’s nursery. You can buy this clock from Amazon.

17) Elephant Basket

ideas for safari nursery

If you’re looking for a storage option that’s smaller than a laundry basket, this elephant basket is a perfect option. It’s great for toys, books, and other stray items in to keep the nursery neat. You can buy this basket from Amazon .

18) 3D Giraffe Paper Quilling DIY

Have you ever tried paper quilling? If not, this is a great project you can use to learn something new! Paper quilling involves taking narrow strips of paper and rolling them up into various shapes. When you glue the pieces together, you can use it to make a little giraffe figure. It would make a great piece of decor for a shelf or dresser.

19) Lion Face Raffia Wall Hanging

ideas for safari nursery

This raffia wall hanging is great for adding a natural, boho flair to your little one’s nursery. The texture of the raffia combined with the woven texture of the lion’s face creates visual interest when placed on the walls. You can buy this wall hanging from Etsy .

20) Elephant Figurines DIY

Air dry clay is simple to work with and doesn’t require a kiln. It can be used to make all kinds of things, including these gorgeous elephant figurines.

21) Safari Animal Name Garland

ideas for safari nursery

Garlands are a popular decor piece for nurseries, especially for the wall behind a crib. I love this garland especially since it combines the classic garland look with the personalization of name signs. It also looks super cute with the felt animals on either side of the name. You can buy this garland from Etsy .

Table of Contents

Unleash your inner designer and let your creativity flow as you embark on this thrilling endeavor. Creating a safari-themed nursery allows you to infuse the room with a sense of adventure, curiosity, and exploration. Here’s how you can bring the wild into your baby’s room:

1. Choosing the Perfect Color Palette

Selecting the right color palette is essential to set the safari mood in your baby’s nursery. Opt for earthy tones, such as soft browns, muted greens, warm yellows, and sandy beiges. These colors emulate the natural hues found in the African savannah and will create a calming atmosphere for your little one.

2. Adorn the Walls with Wildlife Wonders

Transform the blank canvas of your nursery walls into a gallery of wildlife wonders. Hang safari-themed wallpaper or paint a mural featuring animals like lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, and monkeys. This visually engaging backdrop will captivate your baby’s attention and foster their love for animals from an early age.

3. Safari-inspired Furniture: Where Style Meets Functionality

Invest in furniture pieces that embody the spirit of the safari while providing practicality for your baby’s needs. Opt for a crib adorned with animal motifs or carved with playful safari shapes. Pair it with a cozy rocking chair , embellished with animal-themed cushions, to create the perfect spot for bedtime stories and bonding moments.

4. Wild Accessories: Finishing Touches for an Adventurous Atmosphere

Accessories are the finishing touches that bring the entire theme together. Sprinkle the room with animal-themed decorations, such as plush toys, wall decals, and mobiles. Hang a canopy adorned with palm leaves to create a cozy nook for your baby. Integrate natural elements like bamboo blinds, woven baskets, and faux fur rugs to enhance the safari vibe.

5. Illuminating the Safari Nights

Lighting plays a crucial role in creating the right ambiance for your baby’s nursery. Opt for soft, warm lighting to evoke a soothing atmosphere reminiscent of the African sunset. Install a dimmer switch to adjust the brightness as needed, ensuring a serene and comfortable environment for both you and your little one during nighttime routines.

6. Window Treatments: Blending Style and Practicality

Choose window treatments that complement the safari theme while providing practicality. Install blackout curtains or shades to create a conducive sleep environment during daylight hours. Consider incorporating animal-themed tiebacks or valances to infuse an extra touch of safari charm.

7. Storage Solutions: Taming the Jungle of Baby Supplies

Keeping the nursery tidy and organized is essential for a stress-free parenting experience. Incorporate storage solutions that are both functional and visually appealing. Woven baskets, animal-shaped bins, and wooden crates provide ample space for storing diapers, toys, and clothing, while adding a rustic safari touch to the room.

8. Safety First: A Sanctuary for Your Little Explorer

Creating a safe environment for your baby is paramount. Ensure that all furniture meets safety standards and secure any loose cords or wires. Use corner protectors on furniture and install outlet covers to prevent accidents. Place baby gates at the entrance of the nursery to keep your little explorer safe inside their safari sanctuary.

9. Engaging Wall Art: Sparking Your Baby’s Imagination

Hang captivating wall art that sparks your baby’s imagination and introduces them to the diverse wildlife of the safari. Choose artwork featuring animals in their natural habitats, or opt for educational prints that teach your little one about different species. Not only will this stimulate their curiosity, but it will also add a visually appealing element to the nursery.

10. Comfortable and Cozy Bedding: Sleep Amongst the Wildlife

Make your baby’s bed the centerpiece of the safari-themed nursery with comfortable and cozy bedding. Look for crib sheets, blankets, and pillows adorned with animal prints or safari-inspired patterns. Soft, high-quality fabrics will provide a cozy and restful sleep environment for your little explorer.

11. Nature-inspired Flooring: Bring the Outdoors In

Choose flooring options that mimic the natural elements found in the safari. Hardwood floors or bamboo flooring can add warmth and authenticity to the room. If you prefer carpet, opt for a neutral shade that complements the color palette and adds a touch of softness to the space.

12. Creating a Reading Nook: Tales from the Jungle

Foster a love for reading by creating a cozy reading nook in the safari-themed nursery. Place a comfortable chair or bean bag alongside a bookshelf filled with animal-themed storybooks. Encourage interactive reading sessions with your baby, using different animal voices and engaging storytelling techniques.

13. Soundscapes of the Safari: Soothing and Stimulating Sounds

Enhance the sensory experience in the nursery by incorporating soothing and stimulating sounds of the safari. Install a sound machine that plays gentle nature sounds, such as rainforest ambiance or animal calls. This auditory backdrop will not only soothe your baby during nap time, but also provide a captivating environment for play and exploration.

14. Personalized Touches: Customizing the Safari Experience

Add personalized touches to the nursery to make it truly unique and special. Consider framing safari-themed photographs of your own adventures, or hang a world map to ignite your baby’s wanderlust. You can also incorporate their name or initials into the room decor, creating a sense of ownership and belonging.

15. DIY Safari Crafts: Unleash Your Creativity

Get crafty and unleash your creativity by incorporating DIY safari-themed crafts into the nursery. Create animal-shaped mobiles using felt or paper, make animal masks for imaginative play, or paint your own animal canvases. These handmade elements will add a personal touch to the room while allowing you to bond with your baby through creative activities.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q1: How can I ensure that the safari-themed nursery remains gender-neutral ?

A1: Opt for a color palette that is not strongly associated with either gender, such as neutral browns, greens, and yellows. Incorporate animal prints or patterns that appeal to both boys and girls, and focus on creating a playful and adventurous atmosphere that transcends gender stereotypes.

Q2: Can I incorporate other themes into the safari-themed nursery?

A2: Yes, you can combine elements from other themes to add variety and personalization. For example, you could integrate a touch of jungle or tropical motifs to enhance the safari experience.

Q3: How can I make the safari-themed nursery adaptable as my baby grows?

A3: Choose furniture and decor items that can easily transition as your child grows older. Opt for convertible cribs that can transform into toddler beds, and select timeless decor pieces that can easily be updated or replaced. This way, you can adapt the room to suit your child’s changing interests and preferences.

Q4: What are some safari-themed nursery ideas for small spaces?

A4: If you have limited space, you can still create a safari-themed nursery by focusing on key elements. Opt for wall decals or removable wallpaper instead of large murals. Q5: How can I incorporate educational elements into the safari-themed nursery?

A5: You can include educational elements by displaying animal flashcards or posters that teach your child about different species. Hang a world map on the wall and point out the regions where various animals come from. Incorporate books about animals and wildlife into the nursery’s bookshelf.

Q6: What are some budget-friendly ways to create a safari-themed nursery?

A6: To create a safari-themed nursery on a budget, consider DIY projects such as painting your own murals or making animal-themed crafts. Conclusion: Embarking on a Wild Design Adventure

The Ultimate Guide to Safari Themed Nursery Decor

Sharing is caring

Are you feeling overwhelmed by the endless options for decorating your baby’s nursery? How about an adorable safari themed nursery to add some wild and adventurous fun to the space. From playful animal prints to soft textures and whimsical accessories, our ultimate guide to safari themed nursery decor has got you covered.

In this comprehensive guide, we will walk you through choosing the right colour scheme, creating a striking focal point with wall art, adding softness and texture with bedding, incorporating animal figurines and prints, and accessorizing with rugs, lamps, and more. With our tips and tricks, you’ll be able to create a stylish and inviting space that will make your little one feel right at home in the wild.

So, let’s dive in and start planning your dream safari nursery today!

Choosing the Right Colour Scheme

One of the first decisions you’ll need to make when planning your safari themed nursery is choosing the right colour scheme. This will set the tone for the entire space and help tie together all the different elements you’ll be incorporating.

A safari theme typically features earthy, natural colours like greens, browns, and tans. These can be combined with brighter accent colours like orange, yellow, or red to add a pop of fun and playfulness. You can also opt for neutral shades like white or grey to create a more modern look.

When selecting your colours, consider the mood you want to create and choose hues that evoke a sense of warmth, coziness, and adventure. By choosing the right colour scheme, you’ll be well on your way to creating a safari nursery that will delight your little explorer. Now, let’s move on to creating a striking focal point with wall art.

Creating a Focal Point with Wall Art

To truly bring your safari themed nursery to life, you’ll want to create a focal point with wall art. This can be a framed print, canvas painting or decal that immediately catches the eye when you enter the room. Look for pieces with bold, vibrant colours that tie in with your chosen colour scheme and motifs. Animals like giraffes, elephants, and zebras are popular choices, but you can also opt for maps, landscapes, or safari-inspired patterns.

When hanging your wall art, consider placement and size. You want to make sure your piece is visible and draws attention, but you don’t want it to overpower the rest of the room. A good rule of thumb is to hang your piece at eye level for the average adult, and to choose a size that is proportional to the wall it’s hanging on.

Once you have your focal point in place, you can add softness and texture with bedding. A cozy crib fitted sheet in a complementary color or pattern will tie the room together and make it feel complete. Now, you’re well on your way to creating the perfect safari retreat for your little explorer.

Adding Softness and Texture with Bedding

A safari-themed nursery isn’t complete without the cozy comfort of bedding. Once you have your wall art chosen and hung, it’s time to add softness and texture to your little one’s sleeping area. A crib fitted sheet is a great place to start. Choose one that’s cozy and comfortable for your baby, but also ties in with your overall safari theme. A sheet in a complementary color or pattern can help pull the room together and create a cohesive look.

But don’t stop at just the fitted sheet. A plush blanket or soft throw pillow in an animal print or texture can add warmth and a sense of luxury to the space. Consider a faux fur for ultimate comfort. And don’t forget about the curtains! Choosing a set that match or complement your bedding can help create a unified look that ties the entire room together.

With bedding in place, your safari-themed nursery is starting to take shape. Next, let’s explore how to incorporate animal prints and figurines to truly create an immersive jungle experience for your little one.

Incorporating Animal Prints and Figurines

Once you have the bedding set up in your safari-themed nursery, it’s time to add some personality with animal prints and figurines. These decorative elements can give the room a fun and playful vibe while also providing educational opportunities for your little explorer.

Animal prints can be incorporated in a variety of ways, from curtains and throw pillows to wall art and rugs. Consider using zebra or leopard prints to add a touch of wildness to the space. Alternatively, you could opt for a more subtle approach with prints that feature pawprints or animal silhouettes.

Figurines are another great addition to a safari-themed nursery. Not only do they add visual interest to the room, but they also give your child an opportunity to learn about different animals and their habitats. Look for figurines of lions, elephants, giraffes, and other animals commonly found in the savannah.

With animal prints and figurines in place, you’re well on your way to creating a truly immersive jungle experience for your little one. But there’s still more you can do to accessorize the space and make it feel complete. In the next section, we’ll explore how to incorporate rugs, lamps, and other decorative touches to make your safari-themed nursery feel like a true oasis.

Accessorizing with Rugs, Lamps, and More

With the main components of a safari-themed nursery covered, it’s time to focus on the finishing touches. One way to bring the space together is with a coordinating rug. Look for rugs with animal prints or in shades of green and brown to complement the overall theme. Not only will the rug add warmth and texture to the room, but it will also provide a soft spot for playtime.

Another way to add ambiance to the space is with lighting. A safari-themed lamp or light fixture can add a playful touch to the room while also providing a soft glow for bedtime stories. Look for lamps featuring animal shapes or safari-inspired designs to tie into the overall theme.

In addition to rugs and lamps, there are plenty of other decorative touches you can use to round out the space. Wall decals featuring animals or jungle scenes can add visual interest to blank walls. Animal-print throw pillows can add texture and dimension to a chair or crib. And don’t forget about storage baskets and bins – choose ones with safari-inspired prints or animal shapes to keep clutter at bay while adding to the theme.

By incorporating these finishing touches, you can transform your nursery into a true oasis for your little one. But before you start shopping for decor, make sure to create a plan for the space and stick to a cohesive colour scheme. With a little creativity and attention to detail, you can create a safari-themed nursery that is both playful and practical.

In conclusion, creating a safari themed nursery for your little one is a fun and adventurous project that doesn’t have to be overwhelming. By following our five-step guide, you can easily choose the perfect color scheme, create a striking focal point with wall art, add softness and texture with bedding, incorporate playful animal prints and figurines, and accessorize with rugs, lamps, and more. With endless possibilities, your dream safari nursery is just a few steps away. So, what are you waiting for? Start designing the ultimate safari oasis for your baby today!

Safari Nursery Decor Ideas

ideas for safari nursery

A few weeks ago, I shared a post announcing our exciting news – we’re expecting twins. They’re due this spring! We’re so excited – and I’ve been researching nursery ideas non-stop! I’ve contemplated a lot of different designs, and love so many ideas. Since we’re having a boy and a girl, we’re leaning toward a Safari theme. It just works so well for both genders (plus, there’s so much Safari nursery decor out there to choose from!). I may want to switch things up from time to time, so I won’t be going overboard. I still plan to keep things pretty neutral. That being said, I’ve found so much adorable décor, I just have to share. We’ll be picking and choosing a few of the pieces below.

7 Moms Share Their Tips for the Perfect Safari Nursery Decor

ideas for safari nursery

When trying to decide how to decorate your baby’s nursery or child’s room, you want to aim for the sweet spot between “”not overdone,”” and “”not so babyish that they’ll grow out of this in a year.”” With that in mind, many parents land on the idea of a Safari themed nursery decor .

There’s truly some great inspiration out there, and that’s exactly what we set out to track down (I guess you could say we took our own kind of Safari). We searched social media and various design blogs for excellent examples of parents who took Safari nursery decor to the next level.

"Stay at home momma of 2.

ideas for safari nursery

Q. – Tell us about your design process. Do you begin with an initial object or theme as an inspiration?

A. – My safari theme all stemmed for my little boys 1st birthday a few weeks before, I created lots of ‘jungle/safari’ props for it so wanted to keep them incorporating them into his new room.

Q. – What was the most essential goal you wanted to achieve when you initially designed this space?

A. – My main goal was fresh, bright & modern, but still looking like a children’s room.

Q. – Did you face any unforeseen challenges while creating this space? How did you handle it?

A. – Nope, no problems! I kept it pretty basic and the space is only small so was an easy challenge 🙂

Q. – What was the most exciting/thrilling part of the design process?

A. – Decorating is always rewarding! I love going out and buying all the new bits & seeing your ideas all finally come together, it’s a good sense of achievement.

Q. – Any tips or advice you can share with other designers and parents?

A. – I found looking online for inspiration and ideas really helpful. This made me really excited to create & see my own idea come to life.

Karla ~ @shortcuttravels

"I am a calligrapher, illustrator and artist at my own company written word calligraphy, but my primary job is mom to Chase, my son!

ideas for safari nursery

A. – Yes, absolutely! Most of my designs involve a walk in the park, a visit to a museum, or hike and I gather a lot of inspiration from the colours and textures in nature.

A. – I wanted to be a place of peace and comfort.

A. – Yes, once the baby came some of the decor became a hazard hahah so we had to move it out.

A. – Implementing it and seeing it come together and making changes to make it perfect. It’s different when u have a vision and actually implementing it… sometimes the reality requires some change!

A. – Make it beautiful but practical. You want it to be welcoming and comforting!

Maree Sye ~ @alittlebitetc

"First time mom. Beauty and fashion lover. Figuring it all out as I go!

ideas for safari nursery

A. – I loved the idea of having an animal theme and that slowly grew into a safari theme. I also was crazy for the large giraffe and had seen it all over Pinterest. That was probably the beginning of the idea.

A. – I wanted it to have a theme but not go overboard with it. Having a neutral color palette was important so I could easily change the room as he gets older.

A. – The biggest challenge was ensuring I didn’t go too crazy with the theme. It easy to buy every piece of safari themed stuff you find, but then it can look too trendy or not cohesive.

A. – Seeing it all come together! Every time we put a new piece in the room, it would come alive a bit more.

A. – Less is more. Start with an idea, pin all the things you want to get and then slowly eliminate as time goes on. You don’t want to end up with a cluttered space and isn’t liveable.

Rachel Smith ~ @lilbabyraerae

"I’m a first-time mom to a little boy, born last October. I work as a dentist, which allows me to work only 24 hours per week and be home with Baby the rest of the time-which is my favorite “job”.

ideas for safari nursery

A. – I initially saw the animal prints on Etsy (the crown prints) and decided to work around those because they were so cute!

A. – I wanted to create a space that he could grow into-that he wouldn’t be bored of or too old for in a couple of years.

A. – I really wanted to do a  wallpaper  on the accent wall-but couldn’t find anything I loved that matched the theme. I decided to paint one wall a dark green. I chose the satin finish and it showed every brush stroke.

We repainted it three times using different techniques to hide the brush strokes! It’s mostly hard to see now, but if the light hits it just right-it’s still noticeable.

A. – Picking the furniture. Some were custom pieces and I loved putting it all together to create a space we both love!

A. – It’s definitely a process-you don’t have to have everything at once. We slowly accumulated wall art, furniture, ideas, etc. over the entire course of the pregnancy.

ideas for safari nursery

LeAnne ~ @prettyoliveinteriors

"Hi, I’m LeAnne. I’m an e-Designer, and first time mama by way of adoption. I live in Florida with my husband, son, and chihuahua. Designing spaces my clients love regardless of their budget and location is my absolute passion!

ideas for safari nursery

A. – Typically I let the space itself guide my design process, but when it came to my son’s room I started with an elk painting I had bought and saved for our future nursery. The rest of the design evolved from there.

A. – I wanted to design a space that would inspire my son, and grow with him. My goal was to keep it fun and engaging without being too babyish.

A. – It’s not a very large room, and I wanted to fit quite a few pieces in it. Keeping all the furniture the proper scale was essential.

A. – The entire process was exciting, because I was designing this room for my son! We were in the middle of the adoption process, and this helped me feel close to him even though he wasn’t here yet.

A. – Measure the space and plan it out before you purchase anything. This will save you the headache of having to send something back because it doesn’t fit.

ideas for safari nursery

Kali ~ @kbdesign02025

"I am an interior designer specializing in designing beautiful spaces on a budget. I live on the east coast and love to incorporate a coastal style in my design work!

ideas for safari nursery

A. – I usually begin with a certain image or item that provides inspiration. Once I have the initial image I add on from there!

A. – When designing my son’s nursery room I wanted to create a space that was serene and simple. I wanted a space that was soft and created a sense of calmness( both for baby and I!).

A. – I was trying to create a luxury look on a budget so I had to substitute some expensive items I had my eye on with some of similar style for half the price.

A. – The end product! To see my baby in the space for the first time was pretty amazing.

A. – When designing spaces for kids sometimes less is more. I like the idea of keeping spaces simple because life itself can be so chaotic. You can still get the look you are going for without the clutter!

Kaleigh ~ @kaleigh_caver

"I’m the owner of a hair and makeup company that specializes in wedding day services. I love being creative in many different ways, with hair and makeup and with interior design. One thing to know about me, is that I love not fitting the mold; I love being different and I try to instill that in all aspects of my life.

ideas for safari nursery

A. – Theme. I knew I wanted to do a safari theme, but I didn’t want it to be too baby, too kid oriented. So I knew I wanted to do adult, real animal paintings (not baby animals).

A. – I wanted to have his room be able to grow with him and that’s one reason I didn’t want baby or cartoon animals. The rest of our house is minimalistic, so I wanted the nursery to flow with the house as well.

A. – I wanted a drum shade chandelier over his crib, along with the canopy, but after getting everything, our ceilings weren’t tall enough for both, so I had to choose which one I wanted. I felt the canopy made more of a statement than the chandelier.

A. – I hired a local artist to paint the 4 animal paintings, but I just sent her one inspirational picture and told her to run with the idea. She sent a few pictures and videos during the process, but it was so exciting to finally get them, have them framed and hung in the nursery. It really brought everything together and took it to a whole new level.

A. – Stick with your vision, even if it doesn’t fit the mold of what others think it should look like. I had so many people try to push baby animals or displaying his baby books and I kept saying no. And I’m so glad I stuck with my vision, because it turned out better than I expected!

Before & after: neutral safari themed nursery.

Safari themed nursery - project nursery

Baby rooms come in all, shapes, sizes, and most importantly themes. And a current parent-favorite is a safari-themed nursery. Recent Decorilla clients, and parents-to-be, wanted a softened feel to this wild style and our team delivered exactly what they were looking for. Read on to see the results of this neutral safari-themed nursery perfect for welcoming a baby boy or girl!

The Challenge: Safari-Themed Nursery

While nursery interior design checklists are certainly helpful, sometimes a little professional design help is needed to get the look just right. In anticipation of welcoming home a new baby, recent clients were looking to create a gender-neutral nursery with a safari theme. The idea was to design a space that would be comfortable for both parents and child, with plenty of room to grow and change as time passed by. With that in mind, they asked the designers to:

  • Keep the color palette neutral with gray or cream walls as a background
  • Incorporate an accent wall with a fun printed wallpaper
  • Create a gender-neutral safari-themed nursery
  • Make the space gentle, playful, and sophisticated at the same time
  • Ensure some storage for all of the baby’s belongings
  • Source a comfortable chair for the mother

The clients’ inspirational gallery depicted their preferences quite clearly – a serene gender-neutral nursery . Most images featured exceptionally light and airy spaces filled with natural vibes. Creamy palettes featured wooden accents, while some of the details were also black-and-white. There was also safari-inspired bedding, a cute comforter with animal prints, and safari-themed wall art.

Safari Themed Nursery Ideas & Moodboard

Modern safari nursery decor by Decorilla

To begin the online interior design process , Decorilla connected the clients with two suitable designers. Each designer created a unique visual concept. Both were open to revisions and edits in order to fulfill the client’s desires to perfection. Finally, after a round of consultations, the decision was made to continue working on the project with KaSonndra L .

Grey safari themed nursery ideas & mood board by Decorilla

KaSonndra’s moodboard encompassed all of the essential safari-themed nursery ideas , such as wildlife art, jungle theme accent wall, and of course, plush safari animals. Meanwhile, the creamy neutral palette provided a perfect background for a clean and simple layout. Even though the look was quite monochrome, the arrangement felt warm and inviting, ideal for both boys and girls.

Neutral Safari-Themed Nursery Design

Neutral safari-themed nursery design by Decorilla

The modern safari nursery decor relied on contemporary items that would ensure the room will be equally as functional as the child grows. However, for now the room’s design was a tranquil oasis to welcome a baby. The creamy color palette set the tone for a sophisticated space that will easily adapt to changes in accent colors or decor over the years. The true design details shine in the brilliant use of textures and a few golden metallic accents, which KaSonndra used to create visual interest within the room.

KaSonndra was careful to create a tasteful safari-theme without it being the least bit tacky. This was achieved through the use of muted decor that is cute, but not overly childish. And the showstopper was the elephant print wallpaper behind the crib that added a touch of whimsy.

White curtains blended with the wall color, making the room feel larger. However, their blackout feature also made it easy to control the room’s natural light – perfect for nap time. Thoughtful lamps and a shaded overhead pendant were also selected to bathe the room in soft light. Meanwhile, a few plants gave the room just a touch of color and nature fitting for a safari.

Convertible Nursery Furniture Selections

Gender-neutral safari themed nursery by Decorilla

The furniture and decor sourced for this project were not chosen only for their timeless look but also for their functionality. The diaper changing station, for example, could also double as a conventional dresser in a couple of years. The gliding chair provided a comfortable spot to nurse the baby as well as to read stories to a toddler. Lastly, t he choice of a 4-in-one convertible crib provided the new parents with a comfortable bed for the baby. However, its best asset was the capability to quickly convert into a toddler bed or a full bed with the matching conversion kit.

Safari-Themed Nursery Before Interior Design

Safari Themed Nursery Before Interior Design

Before sprucing up with safari theme nursery decor, the room was new, empty, and ready for a transformation. The designer, however, made two minor adaptations to its original look. One was swapping the grey palette for the bright cream one, making the  nursery brighter and warmer. The other included replacing light fixtures with more stylish ones. Completed with soothing furniture and decor, the room certainly became a sight to see.

I'm a Design Editor and Here Is Everything I Bought for My Baby's Nursery

Because pairing good taste and safety standards isn't the easiest ask!

My guiding principle for the nursery decor was that everything had to be flexible and multiuse. I knew my daughter wouldn't always be a baby, so I wanted anything we bought to be able to grow with her. To that end, I chose a Stokke crib that adapts from infant use to up to 5-years-old, and an extra-wide dresser that could easily hold a changing pad and diaper accoutrements now, and can be used as a regular bureau later. Another consideration was safety, which, from a design perspective, can be a real buzzkill. I am by no means an expert, so please check with your pediatrician for best guidelines. In my case, among several other safety measures, I avoided hanging anything above the crib or placing it next to a window. I also opted out of vintage and antique decor because of concerns over lead paint and other materials we now know aren't healthy for babies.

Instead, I added character through removable wallpaper (I am obsessed with Chasing Paper and use it all over the house). More charm came from an easy-to-clean floor mat available in the best William Morris prints , and baby-friendly accessories including crib sheets. And the baby bookshelves may have been the cutest items of all—especially when our little one grew old enough to start picking out books for us to read her. She's now a bona fide toddler, and I still use—and love!—the well-designed nursery items below daily. For more ideas to add style to a nursery:

Morris & Co. The Willow Boughs Play Mat

Morris & Co. The Willow Boughs Play Mat

"I want to get rid of our rugs and just have these everywhere," my husband has said more than once. These durable mats feel so good underfoot and wipe clean easily, but read as a "rug" visually. Bonus: They are reversible so you can change the print up.

Stokke Sleepi Crib

Sleepi Crib

Most design parents know and love the Stokke Tripp Trapp high chair , but the brand's crib is just as beautifully designed and adaptable. It has three "settings" that go from infant to baby to toddler/child. The mattress is plush and the wheels make it easy to move when searching for lost pacifiers. Most mornings my daughter prefers lounging in her crib over being picked up right away—and if that isn't a convincing endorsement, I don't know what is.

Loulou Lollipop Fitted Crib Sheet

Fitted Crib Sheet

These crib sheets are the absolute softest, and they only get better with washing—which is great since you'll be washing them a lot. Our contributing editor Elyse Moody gifted one to me and I have since bought three more. She says, "I love that the company is a small AAPI business founded by two moms who are twin sisters; it's also a B Corp, which means it upholds the very highest environmental and production standards. Given all those great things, I feel so good about supporting them."

Pottery Barn Kids Penny Extra-Wide Dresser

Penny Extra-Wide Dresser

Pottery Barn's extra-wide dressers are a cult favorite among parents. The designs are stylish but not trendy, and the tops are large enough to hold a changing mat, a lamp, supplies organizer, and endure the WWE showdown that happens once your baby gets wiggly during diaper changes. They last forever (I got mine secondhand and it still looks brand new), and transition seamlessly to a regular dresser when the diaper days are over.

Hatch Sound Machine

Hatch Sound Machine

You will do anything, ANYTHING to help your child sleep. The Hatch is a sound machine with a few life-saving extras: You can control it via your phone, which is helpful for when you are carrying a sleeping baby into a room and need to turn the sound machine on in advance, or if you need to turn on a low light to find where the f*** the baby threw their pacifier at 3 a.m., or simply need to turn up the volume a little bit because you want to watch a movie downstairs. When the babe is a little bit older, you can program a green light to come on when they are allowed to get out of bed to wake you up.

Simplehuman Diaper Can

Diaper Can

I hate to tell you this, but all diaper cans are going to be a bit stinky. However, the Simplehuman is my favorite because not only is it sleek and easy-to-use, it also contains the smell. And it comes with an "odorsorb" pod for an extra layer of protection. Plus, when the diaper days are over it will make for a great trashcan elsewhere in the home.

Presidio Swivel Glider

Swivel Glider

A glider is one of the few nursery-only items I recommend, but so many give La-Z-Boy vibes. Not this beauty by Serena & Lily. It is perfection and comes in 176 colors to match any decor. Plus, it's a mood regulator for babies and parents alike. A comfortable chair nice to have for feeding, sure, but sometimes rocking back and forth is the only soothing thing you can think of, even if it is just to calm yourself.

Oeuf Rue de l'Amour

Rue de l'Amour

Adding one or two fun pillows to the glider is an easy way to infuse personality to the nursery without going overboard. Oeuf offers options both chic (like this French street sign) and sweet (like a honey bear or heart).

Boll & Branch Signature Hemmed Fitted Crib Sheet

Signature Hemmed Fitted Crib Sheet

Made from 100-percent organic cotton, Boll & Branch sheets are luxuriously soft and environmentally safe. I am particularly partial to the bunny pattern, which is sweet but not silly.

Lalo The Play Kit

The Play Kit

Lalo has lots of great products for children, with clean lines and simple colors. My toddler is particularly enamored with this set—she loves having a table and chairs of her very own. I like that it doesn't look out of place in my home, and that it's kid-proof—I've wiped it clean of enthusiastic coloring marks hundreds of times.

Chasing Paper Explore the World

Explore the World

Since hanging art can be dicey around babies (or too challenging for sleep-deprived parents), colorful wallpaper is a must. I love Chasing Paper because it is so easy to install and comes in fun prints for children like "Explore the World" (pictured), " My Neighborhood ," and " Magical Safari ." When you want to refresh the walls with a more sophisticated pattern come kindergarten, simply peel it off and try something new!

Lumens Flowerpot VP3 Table Lamp

Flowerpot VP3 Table Lamp

This modernist lamp is not just design snobbery: it turns on with a light touch, which is weirdly essential when holding a baby. (I've done it with an elbow!) The steel coating wipes clean easily and the soft glow is perfect for bedtime routines, since harsh, overhead lighting can jazz a baby right up.

Beddi Baby Acrylic Organizer

Acrylic Organizer

A diaper organizer was one of those things that I dismissed as parental propaganda—isn't that what drawers are for? But no, experience has taught me that it's extremely handy to have everything corralled neatly for diaper changes, especially as your baby gets older and starts doing gymnastics on the changing mat. This one is ultra-sturdy, so it won't slide or be kicked off, and it holds exactly everything you need.

Ceres Chill Breast Milk Chiller

Ceres Chill Breast Milk Chiller

For those who are pumping, this sleek system is easy to throw into a work tote and is ingenious for keeping the milk cold if you have an art gallery opening or two to attend before heading home. It's an all-around editor favorite.

Cybex Lemo 4-in-1

Lemo 4-in-1

The adaptability continues with Cybex's Lemo highchair, which adjusts from highchair to elevated dining chair to learning tower. We have ours currently configured as a learning tower in the kitchen, which has been a lifesaver. The minimal profile makes it unobtrusive in any room, and, of all the baby furniture I assembled (a lot!), the Lemo was by far the easiest.

Crane Droplet Ultrasonic Small Air Humidifier

Droplet Ultrasonic Small Air Humidifier

The shape of this humidifier is so pleasing and unobtrusive. We ran one in the nursery for most of the winter, and it never felt like an eyesore. Pro tip: When cleaning, it is worth unscrewing the parts to get all of the mildew out.

Molekule Air Mini+

Air Mini+

Along with a humidifier, a sleek Molekule air purifier was necessary for the "baby biome" I created in the nursery to ensure that the environment was as clean and fresh as the design.

LORDTEX Multi Color Pom Pom Curtains

Multi Color Pom Pom Curtains

Pure fun! These rainbow pom pom curtains go with everything; they're colorful without painting the room in the primary colors.

ERUGI Montessori Bookshelf

Montessori Bookshelf

We have a couple of these simple, wooden shelves, which hold lots of board books at baby's eye level, encouraging them to pick out options for bedtime stories. They're the stuff of sweet nursery dreams.
