Ind vs ire 1st t20 highlights: the men in blue lead 1-0 in three-match series..

india tour of ireland 2023 1st t20

India vs Ireland 1st T20 Highlights: India won the first of three T20Is in Malahide, Durban against Ireland by two runs courtesy of the DLS method after rain halted play in the seventh over of their chase.

Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah made a splendid comeback as India restricted Ireland to a below par 139 for seven. Leading the side on his comeback after a 11-month layoff, Bumrah claimed 2/24. Fellow pacer Prasidh Krishna (2/32) and spinner Ravi Bishnoi (2/23) also bagged two wickets each. Ireland were 59/6 inside 11 overs before Barry McCarthy propped the total in the death overs with a well-crafted 33-ball 51 not out (4×4, 4×6).

India (Playing XI): Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson(w), Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Shivam Dube , Washington Sundar , Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah(c), Ravi Bishnoi Ireland  (Playing XI): Paul Stirling(c), Andrew Balbirnie, Lorcan Tucker(w), Harry Tector, Curtis Campher, George Dockrell, Mark Adair, Barry McCarthy, Craig Young, Joshua Little, Benjamin White

India vs Ireland 1st T20I: Follow highlights from The Village, Dublin below.

Barry McCarthy, Player of the match: It is always good contribute to the team, disappointed that we didn't get a win. We were enforcing ourselves and playing strong shots. There was a little bit in the wicket. It is always nice to contribute.

Jasprit Bumrah: Felt very good, so many sessions I did at the NCA, didn't feel I miss out. Credit to the staff, they kept me in good shape. You are not thinking about yourself, you are thinking about there. There was some help due to the weather, so very happy. In every game, you would want more. They played well, after a crisis, they played well. credit where it is due. Even when you win, there are areas to improve on. Everybody is very confident, they are very well prepared. It is always good, wherever we go, they support us, that helps us to keep the spirit high.

Well then, not the most ideal of ways to watch their team win for the Indian cricket fans but not a bad day either. A win. And, they got to see Jasprit Bumrah's first spell in a year's time. Two wickets for the Indian captain in a fairly decent spell that was closed by one of his typical death overs (one run). Prasidh Krishna, who made his debut for India also nabbed a couple of wickets and so did Ravi Bishnoi. Many would've wished to watch the other debutant, Rinku Singh have a bat in the middle but that also should come soon. For now, a shake of the hands between the two captains and the officials and we move to Sunday for the second T20I at the same venue. The forecast shows better conditions than today but never trust clouds in Ireland to stay away for too long. For now, it's Ciao from us.

THIS JUST IN: India have been deemed winnners of the first T20I by two runs courtesy of DLS method after rain forced play. The visitors lead 1-0 in the three-match series.

Last time India toured Ireland for T 20 s, the home side were more than competitive but this time I really doubt there would be a fight. We won a game defending 225 by 4 runs last time! This attack consisting of Arshdeep, Bumrah and Prasidh might just be too much to handle.… — Ashwin ?? (@ashwinravi99) August 18, 2023

Just to revisit those two Indian dismissals. Jaiswal's attempt to up the ante was very much evident in his boundaries off Josh Little in the previous over and Craig Young fed him with just the perfect delivery to go rogue. A quick, short ball that was top edged and nabbed.

Tilak Varma's knack for attacking from the word go isn't a secret anymore. The Irish would've seen him in action during the West Indies series and so, a delivery marginally down the leg side. Just enough for him to get a bat on it and then a fair share of luck that it was an edge. Good catch from Tucker behind the stumps.

Craig Young is the new bowler in. Goes for a short delivery against Jaiswal and the southpaw goes for the pull but skies it and skipper Paul Stirling takes the catch.   Ireland get their first wicket.

Tilak Varma is the new batter in. Young pitches a length ball outside leg and the southpaw edges it behind to the Irish keeper and BOY, INDIA HAVE LOST TWO OFF TWO BALLS. Hattrick ball coming up. Samson tucks it down third man for a single. Ah shucks, just when Ireland got themselves back in the game, rain forces stoppage. India, 47/2. Just for your info, two runs ahead on DLS par total.

Little from over the wicket to Jaiswal. There's an lbw appeal but the umpire reckons it's either too high or has got the bat on it. Maybe both. Ultraedge shows there's an inside edge before the ball thumps on the pad. Ireland lose a review. The southpaw skips down the pitch and slots one through covers for four. Goes deep in his crease and pulls one over deep square leg for six to close the over. 45/0 after six overs.

McCarthy continues and Gaikwad takes out the hook shot off a short one. Sails over fine leg for six. With Jaiswal yet to get into his attacking mode, the right-hander has decided to take the initiative. A strong start this for India this, especially in comparison to where Ireland were at the same stage. 34/0 after five overs.

Josh Little into his second over. Ruturaj Gaikwad with a glorious crunch through covers for four. The balance and the timing on that! Not express pace, so he waited in his crease and stooped low to get his eyes on the ball and guide it on its way to the boundary. 22/0 after four overs.

McCarthy in to bowl the 3rd over and yields just 1 from 3 balls as Gaikwad puts Jaiswal on strike. The fourth raps Jaiswal on the knuckles as the bowler gets the extra bounce. He takes a single off the fifth and Ruturaj takes a single off the last. IND 16/0 after 3 overs

Josh Little will bowl the second over and gives away 2 runs from the first 3 balls. There was a chance for a run out but India survive without a blemish. A real comedy of errors in the middle. And there's a review for caught behind now. Big gap between bat and ball. Ireland lose the review. IND 13/0 after 2 overs

Right then, Jaiswal and Gaikwad will start the run chase and Mark Adair will open the bowling. The second ball is hit just over the bowler's head for 2 which is followed by a boundary by Jaiswal. The 5th ball is then smashed through the covers for 4 more!! IND 10/0 after 1 over

Arshdeep Singh to close the innings for India. A slower bouncer from the left armer, round the wicket, is pulled by Barry McCarthy for a four behind square. His partnership with Curtis Campher has given Ireland something to defend with after going six down almost immediately after powerplay. Arshdeep changes his pace again and this time, he bowls length outside off, a delivery that is met with a powerful rebound down the ground for six. A no-ball follows. On the free hit, a full toss is smacked over long off. McCarthy gets his fifty in style and Ireland close the innings at 139/7.

Bumrah into his last over. Wraps up his spell with just the one run. 4-0-24-2. A nice feel good spell this for the predator India will need in their all-important 50-over season ahead. After 19 overs, Ireland are 117/7.

Arshdeep Singh in place of Jasprit Bumrah. Breaks the partnership by coming round the wicket and angling in a yorker that beats Curtis Campher's. A good time to take a wicket for India. Ireland lose their seventh wicket for 117, 18 overs gone.

Barry McCarthy continues the attack from the other end. Swats a perfectly fine yorker for four through the point region before picking Krishna over long on for a maximum. This has been such a positive partnership between these two. Fifty stand up for the seventh wicket. Wraps up the over with another boundary to beat sweeper cover. 114/6 after 17 overs.

Jasprit Bumrah back into the attack. Misses his length and delivers a juicy full toss for Curtis Campher to dispatch down the extra cover boundary for four. Follows it with a good length delivery and Campher has got a hold of it alright, a six over deep mid wicket. Bumrah goes further back with his length and Campher tries to upper cut instead finds an edge. In the attempt to keep the ball away from Campher's arc, Bumrah delivers a wide. Good over that for Ireland. 13 runs come off it. 99/6 after 16.

Prasidh Krishna into his second spell. McCarthy and Campher seemed to have found their groove as we approach the death overs territory. Back of a length delivery and the former deals it with a sweet-sounding slap shot down mid wicket for four. Krishna is persistent with his short length and he manages to win the battle more often than not. After 15 overs, the score is 86/6.

Sundar's third over and Curtis Campher shimmies down before ramping the ball down short fine. A run from Jasprit Bumrah and diving effort from Ravi Bishnoi is unable to keep the ball away from the fence. 80/6 after 14 overs.

Bishnoi into his last over. Barry McCarthy goes big off a full delivery and connects it for the first maximum of the game down long on. It's out of Malahide and there's a change of ball that follows. 13 overs gone, Ireland are 72/6.

Sundar into his second over. After the initial overs of pace, spin from both ends and India are going about their business pretty quickly. Another economical over from Sundar. Just the four runs off it. Ireland, 63/6 after 12 overs.

A change of ends for Bishnoi. And there's an lbw appeal against Mark Adair, who seems to have come too far down his crease at the point of impact. India go upstairs. No bat involved. Ball tracking shows three reds. Ireland lose another. A second wicket for Ravi Bishnoi. He's happy. That one outing for him during the T20Is against the West Indies hadn't been a memorable one. After 11 overs, Ireland are 59/6.

Washington Sundar replaces Ravi Bishnoi. Been some time since he featured in Indian colors as well. Meanwhile, a misfield from Indian skipper Jasprit Bumrah at extra cover off Mark Adair's shot. Not that easy to get a hold of the ball given the conditions. Leads to two runs. Seven come from the over. At the halfway stage, Ireland are 57/5.

Shivam Dube is entrusted with the ball. We haven't seen him bowl much for the Chennai Super Kings. And that boundary conceded in the over shows why. Offers too much width and length to Mark Adair, who whips him over sweeper cover for four. Fifty up for Ireland. 50/5 after nine.

Ravi Bishnoi continues and lures Curtis Campher to take the attack to him. And he does, with a brilliantly executed reverse sweep over the infield for four down third man. Crucial runs these for India. Ireland 44/5 at the end of the eighth over.

Another one bites the dust, geez this is getting humiliating for the Irish. A nothing shot from George Dockrell, who finds Ruturaj Gaikwad at extra cover. Half of the Irish team is back in the hut and we're yet to be done with the seventh over.

Mark Adair is the new batter in and manages to find an edge off Krishna's bouncer as it goes behind Sanju Samson for four. Ireland, five down for 35 after seven overs.

Spin into the attack. Ravi Bishnoi induces an lbw appeal off his first delivery. Nothing given by the umpire against the Irish skipper. But as the home top order has done so far, they give India another opening. Stirling goes for a cut shot but completely misses the delivery and is cleaned up. Ireland in deep mud (pun intended) in Malahide. Ireland, four down for 31. End of powerplay.

Prasidh Krishna with the ball on his T20I debut. It's taken some time for someone who made his ODI debut in March 2021 but finally a T20I game for Krishna, who already has 14 ODIs under his belt in Indian colors. Shivam Dube slips down mid on. A whole lot of mud to be dealt with. Stirling goes for another pull shot but this time hasn't found a connection for the ball to cross the deep mid wicket fence. Tector tries to up the ante, goes for a ramp shot but finds Tilak Varma at short third. Five overs gone, Ireland lose a third wicket for 27.

Arshdeep Singh continues from the other end. Ireland haven't been able to setlle in this powerplay. Skipper Paul Stirling has a go against the left armer but it whiskers past his outside edge and is not far off from the off stump. Arshdeep goes short but this time, Stirling stays deep in his crease - like Tector did against Bumrah - and dispatches another pull shot for four. After four overs, Ireland are 21/2.

Bumrah with a back of a length ball to start off his second over but Tector stands his ground and pulls it for his first boundary. Rinku Singh with some early fielding flexes on his India debut: a quick sprint down extra cover and a dive to his left. The captain applauds the southpaw, who was one of the big performance of IPL 2023. Six come off that over. 13/2 after three.

Arshdeep Singh starts off with a wide. The left armer, coming over the wicket, has managed to nip the ball away. Jasprit Bumrah had expressed his delight with the wicket and a cloud cover on top. Arshdeep banks on the bounce as he sees Harry Tector coming down the track and bangs one short. Finds an edge off the next ball and it's been all India early in this game. 7/2 after two.

First ball, angled in towards the leg side and Balbirnie flicks it down the leg side for four. A wry smile from Bumrah. And then, he gets one to beat nip in and clip the off stump. A loud cheer around the venue as Bumrah gets his first wicket for India in almost a year's time.

And it's gone from bad to worse. Lorcan Tucker goes for a ramp shot and miscues it straight to keeper Sanju Samson. Another wicket for the Indian skipper in his first over. Ireland, 4/2.

The two sets of players walk out with the mascots for the national anthems. Indian fans as far as the eye goes across the venue. The Indian players line up in their huddle and there are no prizes for guessing who has the new ball in his hands. Paul Stirling and Andrew Balbirnie walk down the middle.

Jasprit Bumrah, right arm pacer, from over the wicket (Ah, feels so good to write this after all this while). On we go!

This surface is known for pace, bounce and high scoring. Nice covering of grass on this pitch, it will seam around given the overcast conditions. But if batters can get set, they can score runs. The average first innings score is around 170, but you'll need atleast 180-85 to be competitive on this surface, reckons Rohan Gavaskar.

Right then. The stands in Malahide are still getting filled up as we write but the players are all set and raring to go. None more so than Jasprit Bumrah. Oh, how long has he waited for this! How long have the Indian fans waited for this moment. Less than two months to go in the World Cup. Two weeks before India play Pakistan in Asia Cup. But for now, it's all about these four overs. The first bit of action he'll feature in since September 2022. Fingers crossed. For India as a group, it'll be about moving on from the 3-2 loss against the West Indies not that long ago. For Ireland, a chance to prove their mettle against a new look and yet pedigree Indian lineup. Rinku Singh and Prasidh Krishna receive their India caps.

India: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson(w), Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah(c), Ravi Bishnoi

Ireland: Paul Stirling(c), Andrew Balbirnie, Lorcan Tucker(w), Harry Tector, Curtis Campher, George Dockrell, Mark Adair, Barry McCarthy, Craig Young, Joshua Little, Benjamin White

Jasprit Bumrah: We'll bowl first, very happy to be here. The weather looks lovely. I feel good, looking forward to play some cricket. You realise what you were missing, very happy to be back. We expect nothing short of a fight from Ireland. As a fast bowler, I hope the pitch does something. We have two debuts - Rinku and Prasidh Krishna. Told them to just enjoy their cricket.

Paul Stirling: Looking forward to going out there. We have had a good run in Scotland, let's see what we can show today. This is the beginning of the road to 2024 and the World Cup. We're bringing Craig Young in today, excited to see what the extra pacer can do on this track.

Jasprit Bumrah: We'll bowl first, very happy to be here. The weather looks lovely. I feel good, looking forward to play some cricket. You realising what you were missing, very happy to be back. We expect nothing short of a fight from Ireland. As a fast bowler, I hope the pitch does something. We have two debuts - Rinku and Prasidh Krishna. Told them to just enjoy their cricket.

Jasprit Bumrah calls it right and opts to bowl first.

First visuals from Malahide show the two sets of players are out warming up. So are the hoodies. It's cold and typical Irish summer weather with a cloud cover on top. One would hope they don't have a say on this game. It looks like Rinku Singh will make his debut for India.

Mukesh Kumar made his debut across all three formats on the Caribbean tour. Even though he only managed to nab three wickets in the T20I series, a big revelation was his utility in the death overs, where he managed to keep an economy around 8. The mentality in tough situations perhaps comes from his past.

Mukesh’s journey is of any youngster from smaller cities and villages, who leave their homes, and move to the metro cities to chase their dreams, to make a life for themselves and their family.

“There are plenty like me who come from a small village, and leave their homes to chase their dreams in big cities. I had no clue about swing or seam till I joined the Bengal Ranji team. I only knew my tappa, what my initial coach back in Gopalganj had told me. Stick to your length,” he says. (Read more of his conversation with The Indian Express' Pratyush Raj)

It was a year back. A two-match series in June 2022. Both of which ended with an India win, even though the second was just won by four runs. The likes of Harry Tector and Joshua Little managed to impress against a Hardik Pandya-led side. Here's what the Ireland head coach Heinrich Malan had told The Indian Express at the time.

On a side note, it's 15 years to the day Virat Kohli made his international debut and what a joy it's been to witness him over these years. Here are a few specials from the Express archives to make for some good reading:

IND: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson (wk), Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah (c), Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar

IRE: Andrew Balbirnie, Paul Stirling (c), Lorcan Tucker, Harry Tector, George Dockrell, Gareth Delany, Curtis Campher, Mark Adair, Joshua Little, Barry McCarthy, Benjamin White

Rinku Singh’s breakout season with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has earned him an India call-up, first for the 2023 Asian Games and now for the three-match T20I series against Ireland.

After his inclusion for the series in Dublin, the 25-year-old left-hander says it still feels like a dream. “Sapne jaisa hi hai (This is like a dream). I don’t want to wake up anytime soon,” laughs Rinku. (Here's what he told Pratyush Raj ahead of the series)

In India's last T20I bilateral series, Tilak Varma marked an incredible set of debut outings and finished as the top scorer for India. Both former Indian coach Ravi Shastri and the selector Sandeep Patil concurred that they would have the 20-year-old in their team for both Asia Cup and World Cup.

“100 per cent [if India should hand a debut to Tilak Varma?] I will go with Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav. Who will be in the playing XI, can be decided after looking at the balance and the opposition. But Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav will both be in my team,” told Patil to Star Sports.

Addressing about the lack of a left-hander in the middle order Shastri said, “I’m very impressed with Tilak Varma. Very, very impressed. And I want a left-hander. So, if I’m looking for a left-hander in the middle order like Yuvraj Singh and before that was Suresh Raina at five, I would really look in that direction.” (Read more)

According to the weather reports it suggests that the chances of rain are 92 per cent during the day and 98 per cent at night. Hence, the match is highly likely to be affected by rain. (Read our match report for the first T20I)

While the return of Bumrah is the big talking point, Prasidh Krishna is also making a comeback to the Indian setup for the first time since the tour of Zimbabwe last year. Among the first call ups, is that of Rinku Singh who may as well get his first India cap.

Here's out tip off for the Indian playing XI.

Returning to competitive cricket after 327 days, spending countless hours on the surgeon’s table, rehab booths and practice nets, Jasprit Bumrah sounded calm and relaxed, as though he had never been away from the game. There was neither a hint of nervousness nor over-excitement, as he captains India to the first of the three T20I series against Ireland on Friday.

“Probably after 10-11 years, this is the first time in summer I was at home and I spoke to my mother about it. I looked at it as off-season, got a lot of time to spend with my family. You miss some important tournaments as well, but that’s something that you cannot control, so you can’t be really frustrated about it," he said. (More from his first press conference ahead of the Ireland series)

Nine out of ten times a T20I bilateral series in the year of an ODI World Cup will make no sense and hold little interest of an already overloaded with cricket fanbase. But this is just one of those tenth occasion which demands the utmost interest. Yes, a defeat to the West Indies is still a fresh wound for a young T20I side, very few of which have travelled from the Caribbean to the Ireland. But the primary point of anxiety driven interest for the Indian fans in the upcoming three-match series against Ireland will be, how Jasprit Bumrah marks his return to international circket after almost a year's time. A recurring back injury saw him miss the T20 World Cup in Australia and the recent World Test Championship final, both occasions when India desperately seemed to miss that inspiration he provided with the ball. With a home World Cup just around the corner, fingers will be crossed for a possible comeback in 2022 seemed rushed up and led to an even longer absence of the 29-year-old from the cricketing scene. Here he is, leading a young Indian side with new faces to keep tabs on. A shorter format World Cup is not that far away as well. But for today, maybe four overs will matter more than the rest. What better a proposition to start your weekend with. So just relax and hang back onto your cushy seats, as we take you through the first T20I or shall we say, the Jasprit Bumrah comeback game.

India vs Ireland 1st T20I Highlights: Here are the two squads

Ireland vs India, 1st T20I tip-off XI: Rinku Singh to make his debut, Jasprit Bumrah returns, Prasidh Krishna comes in

IRE vs IND

The three-match T20I series against Ireland is a chance to the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna to prove their match fitness ahead of the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup. At the same time it will be massive opportunity to Sanju Samson, who had a poor outing against West Indies in the T20Is to get back among the runs.

India’s Gen-Next IPL performers like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rinku Singh and Jitesh Sharma will also be eager to make impact. The fringe players like Washignton Sundar, Shahbaz Ahmed and Ravi Bishnoi to show their prowess and the comeback man Shivam Dube would be looking for a redemption. India’s tour of Ireland 2023 will begin on 18th August with first of the three T20Is at Malahide.

As India explore options for the upcoming T20 World Cup in West Indies and USA, they have made another big change in their squad. Jasprit Bumrah will be making his comeback after almost a year on the cricket field and as a captain. This decision gave a sense of exploring opportunities among the probables as a leader in the T20I setup. Bumrah will be leading the India squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Ireland in Malahide. Ireland have recently booked their tickets for the upcoming T20 World Cup next year along with Scotland after missing out on the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 .

The first game of India’s tour of Ireland will begin on 18th August at the Village Ground in Malahide. The 2nd T20I will be played on 20th August, and the final T20I will be held on 23rd August in Malahide. Last year, in 2022, under Hardik Pandya the team toured Ireland for two T20 International games. Ireland came closer to winning the final game, but somehow India managed to defeat them by four runs. Jasprit Bumrah will be leading the young Indian squad, with the likes of Rinku Singh and Jitesh Sharma getting their maiden call-ups in the series.

Bumrah’s elevation as a leader has also given a signal that Indian management is still not sure and is exploring the leadership options for the upcoming T20 World Cup, provided Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have stayed away from the shortest format from a long time. Kohli, Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja are all staying away now, and maybe the team will go with a young and new setup in the T20 World Cup. For Ireland, Paul Stirling will be the leader of the group against India. The series will be broadcasted live on Sports 18 on TV and Jio Cinema on digital platforms.

Pakistan's T20 World Cup squad announcement delayed; Hasan Ali, Haris Rauf named for Ireland and England tour

Pakistan selectors said on thursday that the 15-member world cup squad would be announced after the first t20 against england on may 22..

Pakistan delayed the announcement of their 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup . The PCB named an 18-member team for the three-match T20I series against Ireland on Thursday. The same players will then travel to England for four T20Is. Selectors said that the 15-member World Cup squad would be announced after the first T20 against England on May 22. The International Cricket Council has set May 24 as the deadline for participating teams to finalize their squads.

Members of the Pakistan cricket team's selection committee, from left to right, Abdul Razak, Mohammad Yousaf and Wahab Riaz(AP)

Pakistan will play three T20s against Ireland in Dublin from May 10-14 before heading to England for four T20s from May 22-30. The World Cup in the United States and Caribbean starts June 1, and Pakistan's opener is June 6.

Fast bowlers Haris Rauf and Hasan Ali and all-rounder Salman Ali Agha were recalled to the squad. Wrist spinner Usama Mir and fast bowler Zaman Khan did not make the cut from the original 17-player squad that faced New Zealand.

Ali has taken 60 wickets in 50 T20s but hasn’t played in the format for Pakistan since the Asia Cup in September 2022. He has been playing for Warwickshire in the English County Championship Division One and came under consideration after taking 14 wickets in the Pakistan Super League while representing Karachi Kings.

Fast bowler Haris Rauf, wicketkeeper-batters Mohammad Rizwan and Azam Khan and middle-order batter Irfan Khan are all recovering from injuries and were included in the 18-member squad.

Rauf has been out of competitive cricket since dislocating his shoulder in February during the PSL but has been bowling at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore, where he’s undergoing rehabilitation.

Azam missed out on the drawn series against New Zealand because of a calf muscle injury he sustained on the eve of the first T20 at Rawalpindi. Rizwan and Irfan both were ruled out of the last two T20s against the Black Caps because of hamstring injuries they sustained during the third game.

“We still have time to finalize our World Cup squad and we want to look at fitness of a few players,” said Wahab Riaz, one of seven members on the selection committee.

“Hasan was under consideration and we have given him clarity that he is the backup for Haris Rauf in case he (Rauf) doesn’t fully recover.”

Leg-spinner Usama Mir and fast bowler Zaman Khan, who both featured in the series against the Black Caps, were cut. All-rounder Salman Ali Agha was recalled as an option in a spin department that also features Shadab Khan, Abrar Ahmed, Imad Wasim and Iftikhar Ahmed.

“We understand Usama and Zaman will be disappointed,” Riaz said. “They are quality cricketers and have long careers ahead of them. They need to continue to focus on their cricket so that they are available, if required.”

The selectors have given another chance to top-order batter Usman Khan, who shifted his allegiance to Pakistan, his country of birth, resulting in a five-year ban from representing the Emirates Cricket Board. Usman scored only 59 runs in four matches against New Zealand with the top score of 31 and struggled to make an impact in the drawn series.

Pakistan squad for Ireland and England T20s : Babar Azam (captain), Abrar Ahmed, Azam Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Abbas Afridi, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Rizwan, Irfan Khan, Naseem Shah, Saim Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Usman Khan.

Every squad for the men's T20 World Cup

2squads-multi-16x9

From Australia to the Windies, here's where you'll find the official squad for all 20 nations at this year's men's T20 World Cup in the USA and Caribbean

Afghanistan | Australia | Bangladesh | Canada | England | India | Ireland | Namibia | Nepal | Netherlands | New Zealand | Oman | Pakistan | Papua New Guinea | Scotland | South Africa | Sri Lanka | Uganda | United States | West Indies

The ICC set a deadline of May 1 for all nations to name their 15-player squad for this year's men's T20 World Cup tournament, with New Zealand the first to do so. As the squads roll in over the coming days, they'll be updated here.

An important date to note in the calendar is May 25 - nations can change their 15-player squad at leisure up until that date, after which any changes will require ICC Event Technical Committe approval (such as for a serious injury).

Afghanistan

Squad:  Rashid Khan (c), Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Ibrahim Zadran, Azmatullah Omarzai, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Ishaq, Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, Karim Janat, Nangyal Kharoti, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Naveen-ul-Haq, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Fareed Ahmad Malik.  Reserves:  Sediq Atal, Hazratullah Zazai, Saleem Safi

Rashid Khan will captain the side and lead the spin-heavy bowling brigade, with support from Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Nangyal Kharoti and veteran Mohammad Nabi.

Ahmad, who Aussies will know from his BBL stint with the Melbourne Renegades, is one of several new faces in the squad from the 2022 T20 World Cup, along with Karim Janat, Mohammad Ishaq, 20-year-old rising star Kharoti and keeper-batter Mohammad Ishaq, who played at both the 2020 and 2022 U19 World Cups.

Squad: Mitch Marsh (c), Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, David Warner, Adam Zampa.

Australia left Steve Smith out of a men's World Cup squad for the first time since 2014, while Ashton Agar and Cameron Green are the big winners from the 15-man squad named for June's T20 event, with the Western Australian pair picked despite both having been absent from international T20 cricket for nearly 18 months.

Squad yet to be announced

Squad: Saad Zafar (c), Aaron Johnson, Dilon Heyliger, Dilpreet Bajwa, Harsh Thaker, Jeremy Gordon, Junaid Siddiqui, Kaleem Sana, Kanwarpal Tathgur, Navneet Dhaliwal, Nicholas Kirton, Pargat Singh, Ravinderpal Singh, Rayyankhan Pathan, Shreyas Movva. Travelling reserve: Tajinder Singh. Reserves: Aaditya Varadharajan, Ammar Khalid, Jatinder Matharu, Parveen Kumar.

Canada's left-handed allrounder captain Saad Zafar will carry plenty of the load for the North American side competing at their first ever T20 World Cup. Opener Aaron Johnson, who was pivotal in helping the nation secure qualification to the World Cup in the Americas Region tournament, was the top run-scorer in a five-match T20 series against the USA last month, which Canada lost 4-0. Offspinning allrounder Harsh Thaker has also been in good form with bat and ball recently while left-arm seamer Kaleem Sana - a former Pakistan U19 player - leads their pace attack.

Squad: Jos Buttler (c), Moeen Ali, Jofra Archer, Jonny Bairstow, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Ben Duckett, Tom Hartley, Will Jacks, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Reece Topley, Mark Wood

Jofra Archer is set to make his international comeback at this year's men's T20 World Cup after being included in England's 15-player provisional squad for the tournament.

The 29-year-old pace ace hasn't played at the top level since last year's Indian Premier League where he was ruled out halfway through the tournament due to a recurrence of his troublesome right elbow stress fracture.

Chris Jordan has also earned a recall almost eight months after his last T20 international following an impressive KFC BBL|13 campaign as a late-order finisher and death bowler for Hobart Hurricanes.

Captain Jos Buttler, Will Jacks and Jonny Bairstow – who have all hit centuries in the ongoing IPL season – will feature in a power-packed top order alongside Phil Salt who has also scored four half-centuries striking at 180 for Kolkata Knight Riders.

Squad: Rohit Sharma (c), Hardik Pandya, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj. Reserves: Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, Avesh Khan

India have included wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant in their 15-player squad for the men's T20 World Cup in the West Indies and United States in June.

Pant was involved in a near-fatal crash in December 2022 that required him to have multiple surgeries and he missed last year's Indian Premier League as well as India's 50-over World Cup campaign on home soil.

The Delhi Capitals skipper was not the only player rewarded for his IPL form, with Chennai Super Kings batter Shivam Dube also mading the squad after scoring 350 runs in nine matches.

Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed and Avesh Khan were among the reserves, but there was no place for veteran KL Rahul.

Squad: Rohit Paudel (c), Aasif Sheikh, Anil Kumar Sah, Kushal Bhurtel, Kushal Malla, Dipendra Singh Airee, Lalit Rajbanshi, Karan KC, Gulshan Jha, Sompal Kami, Pratis GC, Sundeep Jora, Abinash Bohara, Sagar Dhakal, Kamal Singh Airee

Nepal will be captained by 21-year-old Rohit Paudel who recently smashed a 47-ball century against a West Indies A attack featuring Matthew Forde, Oshane Thomas, Roston Chase and Gudakesh Motie, all who toured Australia in February with the Windies senior white-ball sides.

Nepal have had a huge run of T20 cricket leading into this year's tournament with the series against West Indies A preceded by two separate multi-team tournaments as well as a visit from an Ireland A side.

They will face Netherlands, Sri Lanka, South Africa and Bangladesh as their Group D opponents.

Netherlands

New zealand  .

Squad: Kane Williamson (c), Finn Allen, Trent Boult, Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Daryl Mitchell, Jimmy Neesham, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee. Reserve: Ben Sears

Experience has trumped youthful pace in New Zealand's men's T20 World Cup squad, with Matt Henry and Trent Boult beating quick Ben Sears to the final 15.

Sears impressed in recent T20 and Test series against Australia, but after an expensive tour of Pakistan he has been edged by Henry, who will play at his first T20 World Cup at the age of 32.

Emerging batter Rachin Ravindra is the only other man set to make his T20 tournament debut in a vastly experienced team.

Ravindra, power-hitter Finn Allen (both 24) and allrounder Glenn Phillips, 27, are the only squad members who will still be under the age of 30 on the day of the World Cup final.

Squad: Aqib Ilyas (c), Zeeshan Maqsood, Ayaan Khan, Kashyap Prajapati, Shoaib Khan, Mohammad Nadeem, Pratik Athavale, Naseem Khushi, Khalid Kail, Mehran Khan, Bilal Khan, Kaleemullah, Fayyaz Butt, Shakeel Ahmad, Rafiullah. Reserves: Jatinder Singh, Samay Shrivastava, Sufyan Mehmood, Jay Odedra

Oman have named a new captain, Aqib Ilyas, for their return to the tournament after co-hosting the 2021 T20 World Cup.

Ilyas is Oman's leading run-scorer (364) and wicket-taker (20) this year and will have plenty of bowling options at his disposal along with his own leggies.

Quicks Bilal Khan, Fayyaz Butt, Kaleemullah and Rafiullah, spinner Shakeel Ahmed, and allrounders Zeeshan Maqsood, Mohammad Nadeem, Ayaan Khan and Mehran Khan have all picked in the squad to face Australia, England, Namibia and Scotland in Group B.

Papua New Guinea

South africa  .

Squad: Aiden Markram (c), Ottniel Baartman, Gerald Coetzee, Quinton de Kock, Bjorn Fortuin, Reeza Hendricks, Marco Jansen, Heinrich Klaasen, Keshav Maharaj, David Miller, Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, Tabraiz Shamsi, Tristan Stubbs. Travelling reserves: Nandre Burger, Lungi Ngidi

South Africa have included fast bowler Anrich Nortje and the uncapped duo of Ryan Rickelton and Ottniel Baartman in their 15-man squad for this year's men's T20 World Cup.

Nortje, 30, has not played a T20 international for more than a year due to persistent injuries, and on his return in the Indian Premier League this season he has given up a woefully high 13.36 runs per over across six matches.

Batter Rickelton, who can also keep wicket, has been rewarded for his fine form in SA20 this year, in which he was the leading scorer with 530 runs at an average of 58.88, while seamer Baartman took 18 wickets in eight matches in the competition.

Aiden Markram will captain the squad, which also includes power hitters Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Quinton de Kock and Tristan Stubbs.
