In February, Osbourne, 74, posted a note to fans on social media, saying, “This is probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to share with my loyal fans…” In it, he announced that his touring days have come to an end and that his scheduled 2023 European/UK tour dates have been canceled. “Believe me when I say that the thought of disappointing my fans really f—s me up, more than you will ever know.”
“My team is currently coming up with ideas for where I will be able to perform without having to travel from city to city or country to country,” he continued in the note. “My goal is to get back onstage as soon as possible.” Ozzy previously revealed that though his voice is “fine,” after three operations, stem cell surgeries and other procedures to deal with a spinal injury he suffered four years ago he can no longer deal with the rigors of touring.

Guns N’ Roses and Iron Maiden Kick Off Power Trip Festival: Video + Photos
- Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below
The post Guns N’ Roses and Iron Maiden Kick Off Power Trip Festival: Video + Photos appeared first on Consequence .
The historic Power Trip festival kicked off on Friday night (October 6th) in Indio, California. The three-day event features six of the biggest hard rock and heavy metal acts in the world, with two bands performing each night.
Tens of thousands of fans descended upon the Empire Polo Club, the same site where Coachella is held every year. They were greeted by a giant devil-horn-shaped cactus, letting them know that they were in for a weekend of legendary rock music.
Guns N’ Roses and Iron Maiden had the honor of playing the first night, with Maiden taking the stage first at 6:55 p.m., about 10 minutes later than the advertised 6:45 set time.
Instead of playing a “greatest hits” set, as could have been expected at an event such as Power Trip, Maiden stuck with their current “Future Past World Tour” setlist, which features the band playing songs predominantly from their latest album, 2021’s Senjutsu , and their 1986 LP Somewhere in Time .
At one point, singer Bruce Dickinson told the crowd about Senjutsu , “If you haven’t heard it, tough shit.” While that may not gone over well with some fans, the frontman did get a rousing response when he yelled, “Scream for me, Indio,” during “The Prisoner.”
Both “Senjutsu Eddie” and “Somwhere in Time Eddie” made appearances during the set. Outside the two aforementioned albums, Maiden played such classics as “Iron Maiden, “Fear of the Dark,” and “The Trooper.”
Guns N’ Roses were slated to go on at 9:25 p.m., but instead took the stage at 10 p.m. That didn’t stop Axl Rose and company from tearing through a 29-song set that ended at roughly 1 a.m. The band kicked things off with “It’s So Easy,” one of eight songs they played from Appetite for Destruction , including “Welcome to the Jungle,” “Sweet Child o’ Mine” and the set-closing “Paradise City.”
Rose dedicated the band’s cover of “Live and Let Die” to Sir Paul McCartney, who released the song 50 years ago with Wings. And GN’R’s performance of Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” meant that the band played songs by two acts who were part of the classic-rock-themed Desert Trip festival seven years ago at the same location.
Fireworks went off during Guns N’ Roses’ final bow, but Power Trip is far from over. On Saturday night, AC/DC (playing their first show in seven years) and Judas Priest (filling in for the originally scheduled Ozzy Osbourne) will take the stage, followed on Sunday by Metallica and Tool.
See photos of Iron Maiden below by Consequence photographer Alex Kluft. As of this time, no pictures of Guns N’ Roses have been made available by the festival. Fan-filmed video footage of both bands can also be seen below, as can each of their setlists.

Power Trip Festival: Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, AC/DC, Guns N’ Roses to Shake Coachella Grounds
By Kory Grow
Some of metal and hard rock’s most celebrated artists will decimate the Coachella grounds this fall for the inaugural Power Trip festival. Guns N’ Roses, Iron Maiden , AC/DC , Ozzy Osbourne , Metallica , and Tool are all set to play Indio, California’s Empire Polo Club on October 6, 7, and 8. Ticketing begins on April 6 at 10 a.m. PT; full info is on the fest’s website .
The gig marks AC/DC’s first concert since December 2016, which featured Axl Rose as their singer while frontman Brian Johnson recovered from hearing loss. It is unclear who, other than guitarist Angus Young, will be in the band’s lineup for the gig, though Johnson sang on their 2020 album, Power Up .
The Power Trip concerts will also mark Osbourne’s first full gig since New Year’s Eve 2018. Shortly after that gig, he slipped and fell in the middle of the night aggravating an old injury. He has been training to get back into performance shape ever since and has been performing one-offs here in there in recent years. Last year, he made a surprise appearance at England’s Commonwealth Games for a performance with his Black Sabbath bandmate, Tony Iommi, and also played the halftime of a Rams-Bills game . In February, Osbourne announced he was retiring from touring .

Metallica, who are putting out their newest album, 72 Seasons , next month (and released the album’s title track today), already had a number of gigs planned this year, as do Guns N’ Roses, who have a world tour. Iron Maiden’s only dates this year are in Europe for their Future Past tour, and Tool had just four other festival dates on the books.
In 2011, Goldenvoice, which produces Coachella, put together The Big Four festival on the grounds, which featured Metallica alongside Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax. The company also previously put together the Desert Trip festival , which also featured legacy acts like the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, and Paul McCartney, in 2016. Its annual country festival, Stagecoach, also takes place on the same grounds.

The lineup for October’s PowerTrip metal festival just got twice as heavy.
Guns N’ Roses, AC/DC and Tool will join the previously rumored Metallica, Iron Maiden and Ozzy Osbourne for the inaugural edition of the festival from Coachella promoter Goldenvoice.
Like its classic-rock forebearer Desert Trip, the concert will bring two acts per night to Indio’s Empire Polo Club, on the weekend of Oct. 6-8. The lineup will pair Guns N’ Roses and Iron Maiden on Friday, AC/DC and Osbourne on Saturday and Tool and Metallica on Sunday.
Three-day general admission tickets start at $599. Tickets go on sale April 6.
A death-defying evening with Depeche Mode
Following the death of co-founder Andy Fletcher, Depeche Mode returned to L.A. for an emotional two-hour show that luxuriated in a sensual gloom.
March 29, 2023
Goldenvoice has thrown a metal festival on the Coachella site before — Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax (the “Big Four” of thrash metal) performed together in 2011.
But this bill more closely follows the format of 2016’s Desert Trip, which brought together Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, the Who, Paul McCartney, Neil Young and Roger Waters in what became the most lucrative music festival in U.S. history, grossing $160 million.
Word of the fest first circulated on Tuesday, after Metallica and Osbourne posted links to a brief video pointing fans to a new website for PowerTrip. Metallica’s PowerTrip headline gig will follow a two-night run at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood in August . Iron Maiden last performed in Los Angeles in 2019, and though the 74-year-old Osbourne’s health issues recently led to canceled tour plans , the onetime Black Sabbath frontman said he’d hit the stage again if he recovered.
Former Coachella headliners Guns N’ Roses last performed in L.A. in 2021, while AC/DC headlined Dodger Stadium in 2015. Tool played in Anaheim last year.

Iron Maiden and Guns N’ Roses Open Power Trip Festival with Raging Sets
Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden – Story by Scarlett Hunter, photo by Ken Settle
Watch footage from the opening night of Power Trip Festival in Indio, California
The first-ever Power Trip festival set off Friday evening (Oct. 6) in Indio, California, on the same grounds where Coachella takes place each year. This lineup is nothing like Coachella, though. The three-day festival boasts a handful of the most legendary hard rock and heavy metal bands and artists in the world.
Hordes of rock and metal fans crowded the Empire Polo Club for the festivities on Friday. The first night’s performers were among the biggest draws for the event: British metal band Iron Maiden and California hard rockers Guns N’ Roses. It’s rare to be able to see both of these bands on the same night, so having a co-headlining performance from each was certainly a treat.
Iron Maiden began their performance around 6:55 p.m., which was 10 minutes later than their initial 6:45 set time. Watching video footage form the performance, the band stuck close to the setlist from their current “Future Past World Tour” tour, which is heavy with songs off Maiden’s newest studio album, 2021’s “Senjutsu,” as well as their 1986 album, “Somewhere in Time.” Honestly, it’s likely that fans were expected a different set than the current tour, one packed with hits, but Iron Maiden still brought a fiery performance for the books.
At least Iron Maiden worked a few classics into the set. They played “Fear of the Dark” and “The Trooper” amid newer cuts. So, fans at least got some classic Maiden. Check out our list of some of Iron Maiden’s greatest songs here .
Next up, Guns N’ Roses were scheduled to take the stage at 9:25 p.m. but didn’t get up there until 10 p.m. Don’t worry, though. Fans got their money’s worth, as Axl Rose, Slash, Duff McKagan and the crew performed nearly 30 songs and kept the party going until about 1 a.m. Unlike the Iron Maiden set, Guns N’ Roses’ performance featured all the hits, including “Sweet Child o’ Mine,” “Welcome to the Jungle” and “Paradise City.” Also, Rose dedicated the group’s famed cover of “Live and Let Die” to Sir Paul McCartney, who actually first released the song 50 years ago with his band, Wings. After Guns N’ Roses set, fireworks filled the atmosphere, making this a truly picturesque end to a rock and metal night.
As for the remaining Power Trips days, on Saturday evening (Oct. 7), AC/DC will perform their first concert in seven years, and Judas Priest will fill in for the originally scheduled Ozzy Osbourne. On Sunday (Oct. 8), Metallica and Tool will close out the event. Find more information on Power Trip here . Watch footage of the opening night’s performances below.

Ozzy Osbourne, AC/DC, Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Iron Maiden and Tool to play first Power Trip Festival
The gig is Osbourne's first since he retired from touring, and could signal Brian Johnson's return to AC/DC
Ozzy Osbourne , AC/DC Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Iron Maiden and Tool are set to all play new California festival Power Trip.

Across three days at the Empire Polo Club in Indio – the venue for Coachella – the six metal heavyweights will come together for a massive show on October 6, 7 and 8.
The show will be Ozzy Osbourne’s first since he announced his retirement from touring . It’s also AC/DC’s first gig since 2016, and could signal the return of frontman Brian Johnson, who missed their last gigs due to hearing loss and was replaced by Guns N’ Roses’ Axl Rose.
The first day of Power Trip (October 6) will be headlined by Guns N’ Roses and Iron Maiden, with AC/DC and Osbourne headlining the second night.
Things then wrap up on October 8 with sets from Metallica and Tool.
See full details below. Pre-sale tickets go on sale here from 10am PT on Thursday, April 6.

The announcement of the show comes after Ozzy Osbourne said he would tour again just weeks after announcing his retirement from being on the road and cancelling all upcoming European and UK show dates .
The metal icon previously said that the news of his retirement was “probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to share with my loyal fans”.
He added: “My singing voice is fine. However, after three operations, stem cell treatments, endless physical therapy sessions, and most recently groundbreaking Cybernics (HAL) Treatment, my body is still physically weak.
The former Black Sabbath frontman then clarified his comments in a new interview on his Ozzy’s Boneyard SiriusXM show, hosted by Billy Morrison.
“So, if I can ever get back to where I can tour again, fine,” Osbourne said. “But right now, if you said to me, ‘Can you go on the road in a month?’ I couldn’t say yes. I mean, if I could tour I’d tour. But right now I can’t book tours because right now, I don’t think I could pull them off.”
For AC/DC and Johnson meanwhile, the frontman recently said that he has “been told not to” talk about the band’s future plans .

As expected, a new hard rock festival called Power Trip , from the founders of Coachella, has announced its lineup: Metallica , Guns N’ Roses, Ozzy Osbourne, AC/DC, Iron Maiden and Tool. It will take place at Coachella’s home base of the Empire Polo Grounds in Indio, Calif., Oct. 6-8.
Basically all of the news that leaked earlier in the week is accurate: Guns N’ Roses and Iron Maiden will perform on Friday, AC/DC and Osbourne on Saturday and Metallica and Tool on Sunday. The mighty but relatively small lineup seems designed to accommodate long, career-spanning sets from all of the veteran artists.

The artists also have performed together many times — in fact, in their rough-and-tumble days, Guns N’ Roses were kicked off of an opening slot on an early 1988 Iron Maiden tour because of what one might politely term their nasty habits, not that it caused any harm to their career. But Metallica and Guns N’ Roses toured stadiums as coheadliners in 1992 and GNR lead singer Axl Rose even filled in for ailing AC/DC singer Brian Johnson for North American dates in 2016, with generally impressive results.
Despite the Coachella connection, the festival is more like a hard rock version of Goldenvoice’s 2016 Desert Trip festival, which featured a classic-rock dream team of Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, the Who and Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters.

Interviews with rock legends since 1982
Backstage with Slash and Bruce Dickinson as Guns N’ Roses open for Iron Maiden in Vancouver
ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED ON JUNE 3, 1988
By steve newton.
The politics of rockin’ can be tough on new bands just getting used to the tour circuit. Take for example Guns N’ Roses , who are on the road in support of their first album, and opening for Iron Maiden , who’ve toured the world for 10 years now.
“It’s terrible,” complained Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash before Monday’s show. “Maiden is cool and everything, but they’ve got such a big stage show, and new soundmen and all, and sometimes there isn’t even time for us to get a soundcheck.”
From the sound of their performance, Slash and his bandmates didn’t get one last Monday (May 30) either. About the only things you could hear well were Slash’s lead guitar and a bit of W. Axl Rose’s lead vocals. Forget the rhythm section. And the band wasn’t too impressed with the crowd’s reaction to them either, threatening to pack up and go unless they got more feedback.
That was a tacky move, but you can’t really blame them, since they deserved to be treated better than your average warm-up act. Their debut ’87 LP, Appetite for Destruction , has skyrocketed to the top-10 on Billboard , and sold over a million-and-a-half copies.
It’s quite possible that next time they’re in town they’ll be the ones headlining.
As for Gun N’ Roses’ music, it’s a fast, gritty, and loose sound reminiscent of Aerosmith, with guitars aplenty and screeching vocals. So it wasn’t surprising that, backstage after their show, Slash was seen wearing a black leather jacket with Aerosmith’s logo emblazoned across the back. Between sips of J.D., Slash chatted amiably with Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson, who had to dart away when he heard his band’s intro music going over the P.A.
“I gotta do a tune, mate,” he explained before running off.
When Maiden hit the stage the difference in sound was like night ‘n’ day. Although loud enough to give elderly folk nightmares, it was also very clean (the band is noted for sparing no expense when it comes to gear). The stage resembled the barren arctic landscape portrayed on the cover of the group’s latest album, Seventh Son of a Seventh Son –everything was painted white and frosty-blue, with icebergs stuck here and there.
Dickinson didn’t waste any time in lambasting the Coliseum staff for moving the stage-front barriers back three feet because they thought the crowd was “dangerous”. And when he noticed one particular security guy roughing up a kid, Dickinson jumped down, mike in hand, and grabbed him.
“He wasn’t doing anything, you big ape,” shouted Bruce, adding some choice expletives, and the red-faced bouncer was hustled off, to be replaced by a more understanding member of the band’s road crew.
With the crowd-control under control, Dickinson got on with the business at hand, and he and his British mates delivered state-of-the-art metal via tunes like “Wasted Years” and “The Number of the Beast” (which Dickinson sang while running around with guitarist Dave Murray perched on his shoulders. If you think it sounds easy, try it sometime).
They put the frosting on a typically fine show full of pyrotechnics and effects with two encores that featured “Run to the Hills”, “Two Minutes to Midnight”, and “Running Free”.

Thanks for putting these old Maiden reviews and interviews up ! I lived in “the South” when I was a teenager and never got to see them in their “classic years”.. Some of your pics and A/V clips I haven’t seen anywhere else before ! Oh man I should’ve gone into journalism…

Power Trip 2023: Guns N' Roses put on phenomenal retrospective of rock 'n' roll hits
In contrast to the theatrical and profound thought style of Iron Maiden’s performance on Friday at Power Trip , Guns N’ Roses’ set didn’t come close.
But Guns N' Roses put on a phenomenal show of heavy rock 'n' roll hits and treated festivalgoers to highlights of the band's career, even paying tribute to Sir Paul McCartney's 50th anniversary of the James Bond anthem "Live And Let Die." The three-hour set was full of stunning video production and lasers, but notably no pyrotechnics until the very end.
Even though the band was 40 minutes late for its headlining performance, the crowd was calm and there were no signs of the old days when the band would appear hours late or not at all. When the festival went dark and the band's strange animated psychedelic visuals appeared, the crowd was on its feet, screaming in anticipation.
Starting with "It's So Easy," frontman Axl Rose appeared like a lightning rod and the rest of the band, which also features original members guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan, were precise in every note.
By 1998, Rose had fired McKagan, Slash and former drummer Matt Sorum and reformed the band with new members and spent a decade recording the album "Chinese Democracy," which appeared early in the set, even though McKagan and Slash didn't perform on the song. But Rose sang "Slither," a song recorded by Velvet Revolver, which was a supergroup featuring McKagan, Slash, Sorum and late Stone Temple Pilots vocalist Scott Weiland.
Power Trip 2023: Guns N' Roses setlist
As Rose sang hits such as “Mr. Brownstone” and “Welcome to the Jungle,” his voice remained high but less throaty. He harnessed his vocal prowess for when it was needed and sang high from his diaphragm, often sounding operatic or falsetto. Rose didn't make any complaints about the desert affecting his voice, but Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson expressed his displeasure with the triple digit temperatures earlier in the evening.
The band also covered UK Subs' "Down on the Farm" and McKagan sang lead vocals on Iggy & the Stooges' "T.V. Eye." McKagan, the punk rocker of the band, has become known for writing messages on his bass. Even though his bass was bare during Power Trip, "LAMF” was stenciled in pink on his black leather vest, a nod to The Heartbreakers' album "L.A.M.F."
But more of classic vocal style started coming out later in the set during "Civil War" and "Sweet Child o' Mine."
"Yes, may I help you? Can I take your order?" Rose asked a fan during a break late in the set before starting "November Rain."
During the final part of the set, Rose sang a few lines of the song "Wichita Lineman" made famous by Glen Campbell before going into the band's cover of Bob Dylan's "Knockin' on Heaven's Door," "Patience" and "Coma."
After performing "Nightrain," Rose mentioned the band had been informed of the curfew at 12:55 a.m. and said "parting is such sweet sorrow." The band closed out the two-hour set with "Paradise City."
As Guns N' Roses have made up for lost time since reuniting in 2016 at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, the band's lengthy tours have been featured in stadiums and arenas around the globe and are attracting new generations of fans who didn't experience the "Appetite For Destruction" and "Use Your Illusion" eras.
But Rose performed the two-and-a-half-hour set at Coachella during both weekends with a broken foot sitting in a throne loaned to him by Dave Grohl. Getting to experience the band's full vigor and a more animated Rose on stage again during Power Trip was a treat.
