The image is designed to celebrate the newest Star Trek television series, which premiered earlier this year and is available to stream on Paramount+. Created by Van Partible for Cartoon Network, Johnny Bravo is an animated series that originally aired between July 1997 and August 2004, producing a total of 179 comedic segments. The story follows the titular sunglasses-wearing character who attempts to woo various women, usually with very little success. The cartoon is considered a classic icon by many in the industry. IGN included Johnny Bravo on its Top 100 Animated Series list and the show was nominated for multiple prestigious awards, including several Annie Awards.

While a Warner Bros.-produced live-action film adaptation of Johnny Bravo was announced back in 2002 alongside rumors that it would star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, no new information about the project has been released since. However, the character is reportedly one of the combatants in Warner Bros.'s upcoming, IP-spanning fighting game MultiVersus . While Johnny has not appeared in any of the official promotional material, fan-made rosters created from data-mined information and leaks list him as part of the game. Confirmed characters include Finn the Human and Jack the Dog from Adventure Time , Shaggy and Velma from Scooby-Doo and Harley Quinn and Wonder Woman from DC Comics.

The perfect way to end Daniel and Johnny’s Cobra Kai stories was teased back in season 1 thanks to a Rocky III reference. Cobra Kai season 6 will be the show’s final, meaning it might be the conclusion to the story that began in 1984’s The Karate Kid . While Ralph Macchio will reprise his role as Daniel LaRusso in the new Karate Kid movie , it is unclear whether the new project will tie directly into Cobra Kai . Therefore, season 6 must deliver a satisfying ending to Daniel and Johnny’s journeys as rivals and friends.

The Rocky and Karate Kid franchises have a shared history that goes back to the original films. John G. Avildse directed both Rocky and The Karate Kid , not to mention how “You're the Best” was supposed to have been used in Rocky III before it was replaced with “Eye of the Tiger.” As such, it was no surprise to have Rocky references in Cobra Kai , which also included a lot of callbacks to other movies and songs from the 1980s. Before Cobra Kai ends, there should be a Rocky III -style fight between Daniel and Johnny. At the end of Rocky III , after helping Balboa beat Clubber Lang, Apollo gets to ask something in return – a secret fight against Rocky to finally settle who was the better fighter. Apollo had won their first fight in Rocky , whereas Balboa won the rematch in Rocky II . However, just as the fight is about to start, the credits roll and the movie never reveals who won the third fight. The winner of Apollo and Rocky’s third match would only be disclosed decades later.

Cobra Kai once referenced Apollo and Rocky’s secret fight in season 1 , when Daniel and Johnny briefly put their differences aside and bonded for a day. Johnny even suggested they would have a friendly match inspired by Rocky III . Unfortunately, they did not remain on good terms for too long – as soon as they entered LaRusso’s house, Johnny found out Robby was training with Daniel. What should have been a moment for the high school rivals to reconnect turned into family drama, and the proposed match never happened. Daniel and Johnny would only have a proper match in season 4.

Not only are the original Karate Kid rivals now friends, but they are also working together on their combined dojo. Johnny, Daniel, and Chozen will train all their students under the same dojo ahead of the Sekai Taikai, which feels like a natural conclusion to the show. With just one season left, there shouldn’t be any more drama between Daniel and Johnny.

Cobra Kai's Biggest Missing Karate Kid Reference Reveals Exactly How The Show Should End

Cobra Kai season 4 already did the “Eagle Fang and Miyagi-Do cannot coexist” storyline, suggesting things will now work out for this new combined dojo. That said, even though Johnny and Daniel are now on the same side, there could still be one more fight between them before the show ends. The entire Karate Kid universe was built on the rivalry between LaRusso and Lawrence, a dynamic that became even better in Cobra Kai . A friendly match in the style of what was done in Rocky III would be the best way to do it.

Cobra Kai Should Never Settled Who’s The Better Fighter Between Daniel & Johnny

There have been three fights between Daniel and Johnny in Cobra Kai , none of which had a clear winning. Of that total, only one was a proper karate fight with judges and rules – the one in season 4 to settle their differences and decide the future of their dojo. Cobra Kai cleverly avoided giving either Daniel or Johnny the victory, which should happen again if there is another fight in season 6. Victories in the Karate Kid universe are usually associated with character development, but there is nothing Daniel or Johnny could learn from beating the other at this point.

Behan was best known for being sheriff at the time of the Gunfight at the O. K. Corral , and the attempted prosecution of the men responsible for those deaths.

Interview: Ronny Cox On Jellico’s Enduring Legacy In ‘Star Trek: Prodigy’ And ‘The Next Generation’

In October at New York Comic Con, the big midseason announcement for Star Trek: Prodigy was the return of Ronny Cox as Edward Jellico. His no-nonsense Captain Jellico in the classic Star Trek: The Next Generation two-part episode “Chain of Command” is still remembered (and debated) to this day. 30 years later, Ronny Cox is voicing Admiral Jellico, Starfleet’s commander-in-chief and Vice Admiral Janeway’s boss on Star Trek: Prodigy . In an exclusive interview with TrekMovie, Cox talks about the impact of his original run on TNG, his return to the franchise, and why he thinks everyone would be better off if they just listened more to Jellico.

It’s been 30 years, so did you have to go back and watch “Chain of Command” to get into character?

No, I didn’t. In my bones, I knew where he was coming from back then, and it’s the same place now.

A good amount of time has lapsed for the character so did the producers have any briefing or backstory for Admiral Jellico or was it just to do the same kind of thing?

We just jumped in and did it.

The producers have talked about how Jellico has some conflict with Janeway . Do you see him as an adversary?

All they have to do is do what Jellico says to do, and things will be fine.

How do you see him as a leader and a person? Is he someone you would like to meet?

He’s very competent and knows what he’s doing and a bit of an authoritarian in that he sort of gets an idea about how things should be done, and really doesn’t have much tolerance for anyone going against that. So, therefore, again, if you just listen to what he’s saying, and follow through on what he’s doing, and look at the logic of what he’s doing, you will realize that he’s right.

Jellico’s original appearance in Star Trek: The Next Generation is kind of polarizing. Have you followed the fan debates?

Oh sure. They either hate him or there are other people who think he’s the greatest captain there ever was. So if you go back and look at what he did, he achieved a great deal of things there. One of the things that was different about “Chain of Command” is that the original producers didn’t like internal conflict among the characters. That robbed them dramatically of conflict among characters. And when Jellico came in, they were able to institute that. So his sort of beef with Riker brought a new dimension to the show.

Marina Sirtis has talked about how important this episode is because Jellico got Troi to start wearing a Starfleet uniform.

Exactly! That’s another thing that Jellico did that scratched a lot of it. She actually asked. Jellico gets a bunch of beef pork for making her put on a uniform, but she asked for that and she got a lot more stuff after that. And the fish in the ready room. Patrick Stewart always hated the fish in the ready room. He said, “We’re doing a series about the dignity of all creatures in the universe and we’ve got captured fish in the ready room?” But the producers like shooting through the fish swimming around there. So Jellico did that for Patrick! [laughs]

So you are saying you came in and fixed the show?

Exactly! Certainly things that people have brought up.

We’ve seen Jellico a little bit so far, but can you give us a preview of what is to come for the rest of the season.

No. [laughs]

Can you say if you are back for season 2?

I can say yes, probably.

Jellico has actually been mentioned on another Paramount+ animated show which is more of a comedy called Lower Decks , where as head of Starfleet he has done things liked banning singing.

Yeah, he hates music. Which is ironic. [Ronny Cox is an active folk musician ]

Could you see finding some humor with Jellico if they asked you to do Lower Decks ?

Who knows? Everybody has humor. The secret to humor is the writing… and simplicity.

At New York Comic Con the return of Jellico was the big announcement for Prodigy . Were you surprised that the character is still so well known after all these years?

No, not at all. Because of all the Jellico memes that have been around for years. I mean, Jellico has his detractors and fans of his go back and forth. Some people hate Jellico. Some people think he is the greatest thing in the world. So it has been satisfying for me to ride along with Jellico.

Could you imagine doing Jellico again, in live-action?

Ah, it would depend on the script. It would depend on what he has to do and whether it’s interesting or not. That’s what it always comes down to with me. Is it interesting? Is it something I want to do? I have to tell you the truth, I never just taken a job just for the money or to be working. Now that’s not to say I don’t do crap. I just don’t do crap on purpose. [laughs]

Did it take much for the Prodigy producers to convince you?

No. They wanted me to play Jellico and I said, “Wow, that’s sounds like it’s going to be fun.”

Jellico, like many characters you play, is a bit of a hardass. Is it more fun to play a hardass?

They’re the most fun to play. The difference between playing good guys and bad guys I liken it to painting. The good guy gets three colors: red, white, and blue. The bad guy gets the whole palette.

But do you see Jellico as a bad guy?

No. If people just paid attention to him and did what he said, everything would be fine.

New episodes of  Prodigy  debut on Thursdays exclusively on  Paramount+  in the U.S., and on Fridays in Latin America, Australia, and the U.K.  The series will air later in the year in South Korea, Germany, Italy, France, Austria and Switzerland.

I Just Learned The Real Age Of Fallout's Thaddeus Actor, And I'm Not The Only Fan Who's In Disbelief

I was stunned!

Many people have seen Fallout by now, and between the excitement for its Season 2 renewal and the discourse among the new location featured in the Season 1 ending , I have another big shock to deliver. Johnny Pemberton's Thaddeus was one of the most fun additions to the show, but I had some real questions about how old he and Maximus were supposed to be while watching. After some research, I uncovered Pemberton's actual age and was shocked to learn he is 42 years old. 

If you've watched the new Amazon series, the Squire who accompanied Maximus for part of his journey and underwent a major change at the end of the series looks much younger than he is--and it's not just because of some super serum. I'm not the only one surprised by this, as @ Vvarkor on X confirmed the actor appears decades younger than he actually is: 

Johnny Pemberton looks in his early 20s and he's actually 42.

There's a lot of talk here lately about how Paul Rudd looks ageless in the latest Ghostbusters , but I think after looking at Johnny Pemberton, I'm having second thoughts. Rudd has aged well and looks younger than his actual age, but I never would've believed without actual evidence that Pemberton is not in his early to mid-twenties. Some people are just blessed with good genetics, I suppose, so I echo what @ saulnipolz had to say on the matter: 

Insane that Johnny Pemberton (Thaddeus in Fallout) is 42 years old. Good for him.

I think that it also helps that in Fallout , which is available to stream with a Prime Video subscription , he plays a squire. To me, this implied he wasn't experienced in the Brotherhood and was therefore young. That seems to be the general consensus on the internet, though it is noted that Thaddeus and Maximus' ages aren't ever revealed. Nevertheless, I would guess Pemberton was cast simply because he looks super young, as emphasized by @ carinthecreek :

Johnny Pemberton is the most 22-year-old-looking 42-year-old I've ever seen in my life.

Fallout isn't the first role that Johnny Pemberton has played in his career that had him playing a younger character. Superstore , a vastly underrated NBC comedy that ended before this, had him playing the 17-year-old Bo. That show aired a few years ago, but still. 

He may be supposed to look even younger than what some fans may be guessing. I can't think too heavily about that, however, because the simple fact is he's almost a decade older than me but looks much younger. It's blowing my mind. It's also blowing the Internet's mind, as evidenced by @ shxdowbroker :

While Johnny Pemberton has a youthful look in Season 1 of Fallout, there might be questions about whether or not he'll stay that way moving forward. Spoiler Alert for those who haven't completed the series: Thaddeus acquires a healing ability when injected with an unknown serum from the Snake Oil salesman.

Thaddeus openly suggests that he has become a Ghoul , but those familiar with the games have also guessed he could become a Super Mutant. If either were true, they'd drastically change his looks and strip him of his youthful human face. We'll see if that happens and what may happen with Thaddeus going forward in the series. 

Of course we'll have to wait for Season 2 to hit the TV schedule , but they'll be plenty to still talk about while we wait.

Middletown street renamed for brothers Steven and Billy Van Zandt

Show business dreams are real in Middletown.

Wilson Avenue was ceremoniously renamed Van Zandt Way in honor of half brothers Steven Van Zandt and Billy Van Zandt on Friday, April 26. Newsman Brian Williams, also a Middletown native, emceed the event, which closed a portion of Wilson midday. Several hundred people attended, mostly Middletown residents.

“You’re in the presence of an architect of our own sound, the Jersey Shore sound,” said Williams of Steven.

Steven spoke fondly of his bother and sister, Kathi Van Zandt, who’s in the publishing industry, and their parents.

“This is a wonderful validation that the three of us did something right,” said Steven of his relationship with his parents. “(Mom Mary Van Zandt) was probably thankful that she got a second chance to fall in love, which happened to be with a guy from Jersey named William Van Zandt — and lucky for me he was a guy who was very secure and strong enough to marry a woman with a 7-year old kid.

"Not done that often in the '50s," Steven continued. "Something else that was not done that often in the '50s was getting divorced, especially if you're Catholic, and Ma was brought up a very strict Catholic so it must have taken a lot of her to get divorced with a kid looking at a very uncertain future.”

Steven also talked of the patriotism he got from his step-father, William Van Zandt.

“He was an ex-Marine Goldwater Republican,” Van Zandt said. “Now, let's hear it for Barry. My form of patriotism would go in a slightly different direction but the common ground was the true meaning of patriotism which has no party affiliation, no matter how they try to co-op it but it's simply a love of our country and the ideas it stands for and the ideals we continue to fight for.”

Billy spoke of the moment and the neighborhood to the several hundred in the crowd.

“This is overwhelming and surreal, and I love it,“ Billy said. “I loved growing up here. Our neighbors were also our family.”

The Van Zandts grew up at 263 Wilson Ave.

“We had loads of fun back then, cast parties after the shows,” said Middletown native Karen Conti, who was a classmate of Billy Van Zandt. “We always knew he was going to be successful and we were right.”

“I'm very excited for the Van Zandts. Stevie was my boy,” said Kay McEvilly, Steven's first manager who booked his early bands into Jersey Shore venues. “I knew the mother and the father and whole family. I'm proud to be here on their day.”

Steven, 73, is a member of the E Street Band and founder of Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes. He's considered an architect of the Sound of Asbury Park, a merging of rock and R&B that is recognized around the world.

He starred on TV's “The Sopranos,” and his 1985 song “Sun City” helped focus the music world on the injustice of the apartheid system in South Africa. His TeachRock learning aid , which uses music history in teaching lessons, is used across the country.

Billy, 66, and late writing partner Jane Milmore wrote TV episodes of “Newhart,” “Martin,” “The Hughleys,” “Suddenly Susan,” “Daddy Dearest” and many more. The pair wrote plays, and Billy acted in “Jaws 2” and “Star Trek: The Motion Picture.”

The renaming of the street was an initiative by Middletown Township and the New Jersey Hall of Fame.

Steven as born in Watertown, Massachusetts. He and life-long pal Bruce Springsteen participated in the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music at Monmouth University's American Music Honors April 24 in the Pollak Theater in West Long Branch. John Mellencamp, Jackson Browne, Mavis Staples and Dion DiMucci were bestowed honors.

Springsteen, Van Zandt and the E Street Band's next show is Sunday, May 5, in Cardiff, Wales, UK.

At the ceremony, Steven also reflected on the irony of the moment in relation to his and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's connection to late Middletown Police Chief Joseph McCarthy, who apparently lived on Wilson Avenue. It was under McCarthy's watch that Middletown police shut down a Steel Mill band in September 1970 at the former Clearwater Swim Club on Route 36.

Steel Mill was a precursor to that would become the E Street Band. A warrant was issued for Danny Federici's arrest after the 1970 show because police believed he had purposely knocked amplifiers onto McCarthy.

“My relationship with law enforcement is quite good these days,” Van Zandt said. “For those who are a little bit older, you might have recalled an altercation or two. That's why it's a damn shame Chief Joseph McCarthy didn't live long enough to be here today. We had an interesting relationship, and it would have been just marvelous for him to have to see my name on his mail everyday.”

'Star Trek: Discovery' Season 5's Captain Rayner Ran His Ship Like a Pirate

Callum Keith Rennie also discusses coming into 'Discovery's final season, getting into prosthetics, and how much he has in common with Rayner.

As Captain Michael Burnham ( Sonequa Martin-Green ) embarks on one last adventure with her crew, Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 is bringing a few new characters along for the ride. Chief among those newcomers is the blunt, war-worn Captain Rayner. Played by Battlestar Galactica alum Callum Keith Rennie , Rayner is Burnham's new second in command on the Discovery , taking over after Saru ( Doug Jones ) took a different position at Starfleet.

Having lived through The Burn, Rayner doesn't have time for niceties and butts heads with Burnham almost immediately — so naturally, she takes it upon herself to give him a second chance when Starfleet is ready to cut him loose. Last week's episode saw him, rightfully, put in his place a bit as Tilly ( Mary Wiseman ) attempted to help him connect with the crew, much to his chagrin. In Season 5 Episode 4, "Face the Strange," Rayner and Burnham are thrown into a time bubble, forcing them to work together if they ever want to get back to the correct timeline and prevent the universe from being destroyed.

Ahead of the episode, I sat down with Rennie to dig into Rayner's backstory, what we can expect from him in the rest of the season, and what it will take for Rayner to truly connect with the crew of Discovery . During our conversation, we also discussed Rennie's history with sci-fi, what it was like joining Discovery for the show's final season, and what he's taking away from the whole experience.

Taking place almost a decade before Captain Kirk's Enterprise, the USS Discovery charts a course to uncover new worlds and life forms.

Rennie is no stranger to science fiction, having had roles in such series as The Umbrella Academy , Jessica Jones, and Battlestar Galactica. As Battlestar Galactica was the series that turned me into a sci-fi fan, and perhaps Rennie's most recognizable role, I had to ask him about being a part of such massive and beloved franchises within the genre. "It's amazing," he said. For Rennie, even though Battlestar was also a reboot of a classic series , the show's success was a lot less predictable than the mainstay that is Star Trek . He explained, "Like, say Battlestar , when I started on that I had no idea where that one was gonna go. Discovery was already very established , but I actually didn't let any of that into my [head], because I went, “That's not gonna help.” So, I didn’t. Now, I'm feeling the world of it. Now, I'm sensing what the world of Discovery is and how many people love it, and how it fits. "

Discovery also isn't his first experience with Star Trek , "I watched the original. That was my thing, and that was it," Rennie told me. While he may have missed some of the series' in between, saying, "There's big chunks of time where I just didn't watch a lot of TV, so I missed all of the other stuff," he'll always make time for The Original Series when he comes across it, "even if the old Star Trek comes on, I'll still watch it because that was my Star Trek . Jim Kirk, and all of that. "

While we've gotten a pretty good sense of who Rayner is in these first four episodes, most of his backstory remains a mystery. Rennie revealed that "some backstory comes up in a few episodes." Part of his gruff exterior will be explained as we'll "get a sense of why he's maybe got a chip on his shoulder and has some unprocessed resentments about a bunch of things that maybe have played out in his work in a negative way."

Rennie Calls 'Star Trek: Discovery's Latest Episode "Amazing"

"Face the Strange," is such a classic Star Trek episode, employing the ever-entertaining sci-fi trope of sticking our main characters in a time loop, both to put an obstacle in their path as well as to bring them face to face with some of their own demons. For Rennie, the episode really put the science in science fiction. "It was like, 'Whoa! What's happening? I don't get it.' There's just so much science stuff and talk, so much jumping about to places and history and stuff." But he had high praise for his fellow castmates as well as the crew behind the camera." Lee [Rose] being the director, you're in great hands. Being in scenes with Sonequa, you know that you're gonna be in it , and it was great. I watched it again last night, and there’s just an amazing amount of stuff in there. It was just an amazing episode. "

In this episode, Burnham and Rayner are tossed back in time to the first season of Discovery , bringing them both face to face with the version of Burnham who's fresh off her own demotion in Starfleet . Throughout the episode, it becomes quite clear that Burnham and Rayner have a lot more in common than either of them might have realized. When asked if this experience might put them more on equal footing, Rennie confirmed that "he's learned an understanding of the crew." He went on to point out that we haven't seen the relationship that Rayner had with his own crew.

He explained: "We're not on the Antares talking about his crew, which I think is an important part that we missed, where you go, 'How did I see my people on my particular ship? And how well did I know them?' No one's asking me how well I knew everybody because I did, but if I've only been there a brief time, you're only gonna have facts." He admits that it is important for Rayner to connect past the surface level. "Through that particular episode, you learn and go, 'Yes, it is good to know what people are up to and where they're from,' because in that particular instance, it saved us. So, I learned a thing, and I give a, 'Yes. Got it. Thank you.'"

Rayner Will Have to Shorten the Distance Between Himself and the Discovery Crew

While it doesn't sound like we'll be getting any flashbacks to Rayner's time on the Antares Rennie believes that he'd spent a similar amount of time with that crew as Michael has with hers. "We didn't get to inhabit that, I get to make it up in my own mind," he said. "But for me, it was more like a pirate ship that I had. " While Rayner comes off as the more stubborn, stick-to-the-mission Captain between him and Burnham, Rennie doesn't think he was quite so strict on his own ship. He said:

"That's the way I perceived it. It wasn't some rigid, completely stoic, boss fest, but a little bit of a wild card ship. We're gonna go into things that nobody else wants to go into, or knows how to deal with, but we would. "

While the walls around Rayner are still pretty high, Rennie explained that we will see him "shorten the distance" he's put between himself and the crew of the Discovery. "There's a great bit, there's an episode where Burnham leaves me again to take control of the ship. There's an interaction with everybody in a certain way because they don't like me yet. [Laughs] And I need some help a little bit, but I've created a distance, and I have to shorten that distance between everybody." He went on to say there are plenty of "fun dynamics" to look forward to and Rayner's insistence on keeping everyone at arm's length will likely come back to bite him.

Star Trek has quite a long list of original alien species created for the franchise, and Rayner just happens to be a Kellerun, a race that hasn't been seen since Deep Space Nine . In classic Trek fashion, Kelleruns appear mostly human with the most visible difference being the shape of the ears. As he follows in the footsteps of the likes of Leonard Nimoy and any actor who has ever played a Vulcan or a Romulan, I asked Rennie about getting into prosthetics for the role. "Those guys are great. Rocky [Faulkner] was great, Nicola [Bendrey] was great." While it was certainly an extra step the process was brief enough that it didn't bother him to come to set a bit earlier than usual. "That was probably an hour, and I really didn't think about that enough to go, 'Oh, that's right. I have to get up earlier.' But I think we got it down to an hour and a bit for just the ears because there’s a lot of stuff on them."

Despite the agonizing wait of sitting in front of a mirror for an hour, Rennie noted that Faulkner and Bendrey made the make-up experience as fun as it could possibly have been. He said: "I don't love just sitting there looking at myself for an hour, but there's music and great company and coffee, and it became a really sweet part of the day, and then another sweet part of the day where I download. " It wasn't his first time getting into prosthetics, but his previous experience had been brief. After playing Rayner across an entire season, Rennie admitted by the end, removing the glue actually started to feel like you'd expect pulling costume glue off your ears to feel. "There was a point near the end where the glue-on, glue-off became quite painful for a while."

The Support of the Cast and the Fans Are Highlights of Rennie's 'Star Trek' Experience

While this is Rennie's first season on the show, it's the final bow for Star Trek: Discovery . When asked what he'd be taking away from this experience, he had nothing but high praise for the cast and crew. As a newcomer on a well-established show, jumping into the fifth season had a bit of a learning curve. "I found that coming into the show was difficult for me because it was unlike a show that I'd been on before. It was already very well established." He went on to say:

"I pat myself on the back because I made it through, and there was this wonderful group energy that helped me do that. The good naturedness of the show was something that I maybe haven't worked on. There was a wholehearted goodness about it, which was quite nice, which overlapped into how people treated each other and mutual respect. Also, I kind of blocked out all Star Treks in my mind, so I'm there not thinking of Star Trek history. I'm just doing scene-to-scene and working on this stuff, and then it finishes, and then I forget that there's an incredible vast following of the show that somehow you are now part of it like that. All of that, this is all relatively new to me."

As a new addition to an already established group, I pointed out that it seemed as though Rennie's experience mirrored that of his characters, and he agreed. "I'm excited for people to see the season. And then, coming into it playing, “I don't want to be liked. It doesn't matter if I'm liked. I'm there to do my job, like Rayner, and I'm doing it. And then there's the after-effect of an incredible fan base that seems to be very supportive ."

Fans on mission. To seek out autographs from Star Trek icon William Shatner

LAKE TWP. − For many, it was a final frontier.

To boldly go where they had never gone before — into the presence of Star Trek actor William Shatner .

Several hundred people flocked Saturday to Hartville MarketPlace & Flea Market to get autographs and pictures with the 93-year-old man known for his role as Captain James T. Kirk in the original 1960s television series Star Trek. Those 79 episodes spawned a decades-long influential cultural franchise and phenomenon.

The crowd loudly cheered when Shatner appeared at 10:50 a.m. in an area by the food court cordoned off for his appearance that was arranged by Prime Time Sports and Framing of Kent. Fans, several arriving in wheelchairs, brought Star Trek uniforms, promotional pictures from the TV series and Star Trek films, a model of the U.S.S. Enterprise and sketches to be marked with his coveted signature.

The cost of each autograph or picture with him was $149. If you wanted both, the cost was $275. For him to write three words or less with the autograph cost $79 more. Several also paid $100 for a VIP pass to skip the line.

Shatner could be seen for the next 74 minutes signing autographs, smiling and engaging in light banter with fans. After everyone who had paid for an autograph had been served, he got onto a scooter with balloons tied to it and going nowhere close to as fast as warp speed went to All Star Sports Gallery.

Someone wearing an elaborate costume as Bumblebee the Transformer led the procession. Then, Shatner switched from the scooter to sitting on a stool to take pictures with people, with the line of those waiting for pictures stretching back to the food court area.

Dave Bell, 74, of Lake Township, who watches the classic Star Trek episodes every night, said he wasn't willing to pay $149 for an autograph. But he came to Hartville Marketplace to get a glimpse and picture of Shatner.

"I'm a Trekkie. But this is ridiculous," Bell said about the crowd. "I'm not surprised. He's a very popular guy."

Jann Henthorn drove an hour from Orrville to see the man who played the beloved Star Trek captain.

"Is William Shatner here?" she said as she tried to spot him through the autograph seekers blocking her view. "I see him! ... All of us baby boomers are all excited!"

Henthorn recalled watching Star Trek when it first aired in the 1960s long before it achieved massive cult status in syndication.

"He looks good," she said about Shatner.

Cassedy Brennan, 28, of Wadsworth stood by one of the barricades snapping pictures of Shatner. Her father, a big Star Trek fan, was in line waiting for an autograph on a poster.

"He is like a kid in a candy store today. He is so excited. It's like Star Wars, Star Trek paraphernalia in the basement. ... Unopen toys. This is his jam," she said. "I think it's cool. Not exactly my thing. But here to support my dad. It's cool to see, too."

Brennan was one of the few people in their 20s in the crowd.

"I probably wouldn't know William Shatner out of context if it weren't for my dad," she said, adding that she saw classic Star Trek episodes with her father. "There's probably some millennials that are fans. But I'm not a sci-fi kind of girl."

Michael Rothman, 38, of Lake Township said Shatner autographed his set of Star Trek DVDs.

He said the actor said to him, "'Thank you very much.' That's all he said."

His wife Shandi Rothman clarified that, "He (also) said, 'Pleasure to see you.'"

Stacy Klotz of Massillon got Shatner to autograph her Captain James T. Kirk poster. She considered the $149 cost a "once in a lifetime type of thing." A sci-fi fan, she first started seeing Star Trek in syndication in the late 1970s.

Matt Merew, 56, of Zanesville got Shatner to sign his model of the Enterprise and his picture depicting the scene where Captain Kirk fights an alien captain known as a Gorn. The picture already had the autograph of the actor who played the Gorn that Merew got at a past Star Trek convention.

Cameron Blakey, 46, of Mogadore, who watched Star Trek in the 1980s with his uncle and mother, got Shatner to autograph his sketch of Captain Kirk that Blakey drew.

"He asked me how I was. And he asked me if I drew this. I told him I did. And I told him that we basically thank you for everything and he made my day," he said. "He made my life. Awesome, awesome experience!"

Karen Isaiah of Mogadore said she watched the original Star Trek in 1967.

"I'm ecstatic. I didn't want to miss him for anything," she said. "I met (singer) Johnny Mathis. I talked to William Shatner. My life is complete."

[1] [2] [3] The boots were also worn by Michael Dorn and Jef Ayres and the trousers by James Worthy . Vickery filmed his scenes for the episode "Night Terrors" on Monday 7 January 1991 and Wednesday 9 January 1991 on Paramount Stage 9 and 16 .

Vickery was born as John Estill Vickery on 4 November 1950 in Alameda, California, USA and grew up in Oakland, California. He attended the University of California and studied acting in London.

Vickery originated the role of Scar in the Broadway stage play "The Lion King", a role he played since 1997 and which he dedicated to his daughter Alexandria Grace. [4] [5] He previously appeared in the Broadway plays "Macbeth" (1981), "Ned & Jack" (1981), "Eminent Domain" (1982), "The Real Thing" (1984-1985), and "The Sisters Rosensweig" (1994-1995). He also appeared in various plays at the Mark Taper Forum, the Old Globe Theatre, and the South Coast Repertory Theatre. His "Judgment" co-star Granville Van Dusen temporarily took over the role, while Vickery was recovering from back surgery, in 2001.

His appearance as Dr. Caius in the Shakespeare play "The Merry Wives of Windsor" was brought onto video in 1980 and also featured Trek actor Kevin Carr . His portrayal of Malcolm in Shakespeare's "MacBeth" was aired on television in 1982. In Kirk Browning's adaptation he worked with Philip Anglim in the title role, Kelsey Grammer , and Fritz Sperberg . In 1996 he received a Joseph Jefferson Award nomination in the category Actor in a Principal Role for his work on the play "I Hate Hamlet" at the Jujamcyn Theatre in Chicago, Illinois.

Vickery made his television debut in 1983 in an episode of the long running crime soap The Edge of Night followed by a recurring role as Jesse Wilde in One Life to Live (1984-1985). Between 1986 and 1987 he appeared in four episodes of the television series Crime Story where he worked with Bill Smitrovich , Billy Campbell , Francis Guinan , Michael Krawic , and Tim Halligan .

After supporting roles in Napoleon and Josephine: A Love Story (1987, with Stephanie Beacham , William Lucking , and Leigh Taylor-Young ) and Till We Meet Again (1989) and the television movies Promised a Miracle (1988, with Michael Cavanaugh and Wyatt Knight ) and I Know My First Name Is Steven (1989, with Ray Walston , Gregg Henry , and Barbara J. Tarbuck ), Vickery had guest roles in episodes of L.A. Law (1990 and 1991, with Corbin Bernsen , Larry Drake , Raye Birk , Paul Winfield , and Jennifer Hetrick ), Wings (1991, starring Steven Weber ), and Civil Wars (1992, with John Cothran, Jr. , Ronny Cox , Juli Donald , Robin Gammell , Max Grodénchik , and Anne Haney ).

He appeared in The Boys (1991, with Albert Hall , Natalija Nogulich , and George D. Wallace ), the television thriller Deconstructing Sarah (1994, with David Andrews , Clyde Kusatsu , and Tony Brubaker ), lent his voice to the animated television series Teknoman (1994), and guest starred in Fortune Hunter (1994, with Clive Revill and John Snyder ) and The Single Guy (1996, with Maury Sterling ).

In 1994 he portrayed the Minbari Neroon in the Babylon 5 first season episode "Legacies". Throughout the following three years he reprised this role in four more episodes and also portrayed Mr. Welles in a 1995 episode. On J. Michael Straczynski 's science fiction series, he worked with fellow Trek alumni Caitlin Brown , Bill Mumy , Marshall R. Teague , Robert Foxworth , D.C. Fontana , Robert Rusler , Andreas Katsulas , Juliana Donald , Katherine Moffat , Time Winters , Guy Siner , Patricia Tallman , Bart McCarthy , Majel Barrett and Walter Koenig . He also portrayed Mr. Welles in an episode of Crusade in 1999, where he worked with Gary Cole , Daniel Dae Kim , Marjean Holden , and Christopher Michael .

Vickery made his film debut in 1986 when he lent his voice for the American version of the Japanese animated film Fist of the North Star on which Trek alumni Melodee Spevack , Dan Woren , and James Avery also voiced characters. The same year he portrayed a detective in Out of Bounds (1986, with Jeff Kober , Allan Graf , and Dick Ziker ).

Vickery's further film credits include Big Business (1988, with Nicolas Coster , John Hancock , and Roy Brocksmith ), Rapid Fire (1992, with Tzi Ma , Jeff McCarthy , Eddy Donno , Gene LeBell , Johnny C. Meier , and Cole McKay ), Dr. Giggles (1992, with Larry Drake and Cliff DeYoung , and directed by Manny Coto ), the short film Son for Sale (1995, with Irene Roseen ), the drama Shooting LA (2001, with Ben Slack ), Murder by Numbers (2002, with Michael Canavan , James W. Jansen , and Dennis Cockrum ), and the drama Debating Robert Lee (2004, with Rachel Nichols and Sherman Howard ).

He lent his voice to the video games Vampire: The Masquerade – Redemption (2000, with Nicholas Guest , Dan Woren, Melodee Spevack, and Greg Ellis ) and Dante's Inferno (2010, with Bart McCarthy) and appeared in the short film Pirates of the Caribbean: Tales of the Code: Wedlocked (2011, with Jack Donner , Ric Sarabia , and Diana Cignoni ).

Remembering John G. Trimble

StarTrek.com is saddened to report the passing of John G. Trimble, who passed away the morning of April 19, 2024, as confirmed by his daughter Lora Boem in a post .

Star Trek and fandom as we know it all stems from the efforts and passion of John and his wife Bjo Trimble , the couple who launched a grassroots letter writing campaign to Save Star Trek following NBC’s cancellation of the Original Series, resulting in a third season. With enough episodes then, Star Trek was able to enter syndication, propelling it into a phenomenon that warranted an animated series in 1973 and big-budget feature in 1979.

John and Bjo Trimble, in 2016, were brought on stage at Star Trek Las Vegas in celebration of the 50th anniversary, and the Star Trek franchise team surprised and honored them with a painted portrait of them by artist JK Woodward.

Recalling their efforts after a visit to the Original Series set , following the 50th anniversary honor, John Trimble told StarTrek.com, "When we saw the change in the cast and crew during the filming of 'The Deadly Years' from what it had been before, we knew something was going on. It had been a very up cast and crew, and now it was very down, the mood. We found out by going to craft services, the underground gossip source, that they were probably going to cancel the show after the second season. We had to leave and go back to Oakland, where we lived at the time, and on the way, we were talking about what a change it had been in the cast. I turned to Bjo and I said, 'There ought to be something we can do about that,' knowing full well that that was throwing down the challenge."

The couple immediately sprang into action. John Trimble added, "We spent the rest of the trip going up the Central Valley, before Interstate 5, back to Oakland, discussing how to do it and putting together the Save Star Trek campaign."

Bjo Trimble credited John for building out the framework of their grassroots campaign, "We knew, of course, we were going to have to both mail letters. John went down to the post office, learned all about mail rules, and brand new was the zip code system. They told us, flat out, that if material wasn't zip coded it wouldn't go out as bulk mail, that it would just sit in the post office. John got all the books in those days, and it was stacks of them, and learned about the zip code rules. And we came home and put those into effect when we mailed out letters. John was downstairs with a hand-cranked mimeograph machine, turning out the letters, which we still have a copy or two. We folded them, labeled them and stamped them, and put them in bulk mail. He was doing a whole bunch of the physical work, the grunt work. I was more getting people over to help us. It was actually wonderful. We would work the volunteers hard all weekend. John was everywhere; he was the one who ran the errands. He's the one who lifted, toted, and basically it simply was not possible for me to do it alone. This is why we're a pair."

The decades following their legendary writing campaign, John and Bjo Trimble remained ambassadors for science fiction, the space program, and the Society of Creative Anachronism. The pair continued to attend Star Trek premiere and events, meeting fellow fans and sharing their enthusiasm for each new iteration of Star Trek and generation of fandom, including last year’s Star Trek: Picard Season 3 red carpet premiere in Hollywood, CA.

The entire Star Trek family sends their condolences to Trimble’s family, friends, and loved ones around the world.
