Julian had some great tips in his masterclass for aspiring players. The show was simply incredible! The Trio was absolutely on fire!!It reminded me of the stage chemistry I've seen at Aristocrat's shows. Top-notch playing by musicians who are having real fun.
Report as inappropriate
Julian Lage came to Toronto in support of his latest effort "Love Hurts" which also served as the opening number that has remained in constant motion in my mind due to his addictively appealing trio interplay.
As expected his trio which consisted of bassist Jorge Roeder and drummer Dave King became a worthwhile evening of great music that would have an appeal well beyond that of the jazz crowd. I could not begin to write a review that serve Julian any justice other than to say this performance is an easy 5 stars!
Fantastic concert in a really nice and comfortable location as well.
The support band was really cool and talented but when Julian arrived on stage and started to play the first chords the difference was immense!

Original show description below.
“One of jazz’s breezier virtuosos, possessed of an unflappable technical facility and a seemingly boundless curiosity” ( The New York Times ), guitarist Julian Lage returns with music from his newest Blue Note album, View With A Room , the third with his working trio including bassist Jorge Roeder and drummer Dave King of The Bad Plus.
Transcending his prodigious beginnings — which include being the subject of the Oscar-nominated documentary film Jules at Eight , a GRAMMY Awards performance at 13, and faculty status at the Stanford Jazz Workshop at 15 – Santa Rosa-born guitarist Julian Lage has emerged as a stunningly accomplished creative force and savvy bandleader. Making his recording debut in duet with bluegrass luminary David Grisman, Lage demonstrated deep maturity and intellectual acuity from the start, impressing jazz vibraphone innovator and discerning talent scout Gary Burton, who recruited the then 16-year-old for his quartet in 2004.
Lage’s trajectory has been linear since then, embracing jazz, pop, country, bluegrass, and acoustic folk with equal élan. Several increasingly assured albums and sideman work with drummer Eric Harland’s Voyager band as well as duet projects with guitarists Chris Eldridge and Nels Cline (Wilco) have led to Lage’s stimulating trio with Roeder and King, his most telepathic unit to date.
Several increasingly assured albums and sideman work have led to Lage’s stimulating trio with Roeder and King, his most telepathic unit to date.
Lage’s knowledge of harmony and his familiarity with the fretboard is so extravagant and capacious that he brings flourishes to this music that it simply hasn’t enjoyed before.

Julian Lage
With margaret glaspy.
Guitarist Julian Lage expands his horizons on View With A Room , a collection of 10 compelling original compositions that marks his second release for Blue Note Records . Having established a home base with his brilliant and deeply attuned trio of bassist Jorge Roeder and drummer Dave King —most recently heard on the guitarist’s acclaimed 2021 Blue Note debut Squint —Lage casts his gaze outward to discover new orchestrational possibilities with the addition of six-string icon Bill Frisell , who adds his inimitable voice to this absolutely stunning album.
Hailed as one of the most prodigious guitarists of his generation and “highest category of improvising musicians" (New Yorker), Julian Lage has spent more than a decade searching through the myriad strains of American musical history via impeccable technique, free association and a spirit of infinite possibility. The California-born New York-based musician boasts a prolific resume on his own accord in addition to collaborating with Gary Burton and John Zorn, as well as duo projects with Nels Cline, Chris Eldridge and Fred Hersch, among others.
Julian Lage is thrilled to offer an exclusive Master Class at select cities on his View With A Room Fall Tour. All Master Class tickets include admission for one to the evening's concert. Where available, Master Class tickets will include early admission to the show. Unfortunately, we're unable to offer 'master class-only tickets' at this time. Start time for the class is generally an hour before advertised doors but exact start time will be communicated with ticket buyers around one week before the show. During each class, 30 minutes will be spent teaching to a unique piece of curriculum before a 10-15 minute Q&A session. Tickets to these classes are limited to ensure everyone comes away with a unique and hands-on experience. Participants are not required to bring instruments - topics are not necessarily tied to instruction and technique. In addition to the class, participants will leave with an exclusive Julian Lage poster.

An official live performance video featuring the formidable trio of Lage, bassist Jorge Roeder, and drummer Dave King premieres today at YouTube. “Word For Word” marks the latest single from Lage’s upcoming new album, View With A Room, arriving via Blue Note Records on Friday, September 16. Vinyl, CD, and digital pre-orders are available now.
WATCH OFFICIAL LIVE TRIO PERFORMANCE VIDEO
A stunning collection of 10 compelling original compositions that sees Lage expanding upon his core trio’s orchestrational possibilities with the involvement of six-string icon Bill Frisell, View With A Room also includes the recently released first single, “Auditorium,” available now to stream or download. Hailed by Guitar World as “a doozy,” the track is joined by an official live trio performance video streaming now at YouTube.
Lage will mark the arrival of View With A Room with a busy international live schedule, including an upcoming week-long stand at New York City’s famed Village Vanguard (July 26-31), to be followed this fall by the “View With A Room In Concert” U.S. tour, getting underway September 13 at Pittsburgh, PA’s Oaks Theater and then traveling through mid-December. For complete details and ticket information, please visit www.julianlage.com/tour .
View With A Room sees Lage fulfilling a long-standing goal to “have lush orchestration combined with an organic sense of improvisation and the agility of a small ensemble” by adjoining his core trio of Roeder and King with legendary guitarist Bill Frisell. Having previously collaborated in several different contexts, including duo concerts and projects devised by John Zorn, the two musicians honed in on a shorthand musical vocabulary rich with references – spanning The Beach Boys, Keith Jarrett’s American and European Quartets, and George Harrison’s All Things Must Pass – to craft a subtle, eloquent weave that expertly manifests Lage’s enhanced vision in atmospheric and incisive ways throughout the new collection.
“There’s no one I would trust more than Bill Frisell to come into our trio ecosystem and be able to expand it while totally embracing it,” Lage says. “It became a beautiful collaboration that achieved the Technicolor experience that I’ve been searching for.”
Produced by Lage’s wife and musical partner, singer-songwriter Margaret Glaspy, at Brooklyn’s Bridge Studios with engineer Mark Goodell, View With A Room marks Lage’s second release via Blue Note Records, following last year’s acclaimed label debut album, Squint. Lage’s longtime friend and collaborator Armand Hirsch added integral post-production elements that bring the emotional intent of each song into focus.

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:
From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.
At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.
According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.
The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.
Coffee Ring
The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.
Zodiac Metro
According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.
Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.
Paleontological finds
Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

Moscow Metro
The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.
What is the kremlin in russia?
The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.
And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.
During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.
There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.
