Fantastic experience: The recent trip to see WOW in Wgtn was very well organised and the driver, Steve, was a safe, courteous and friendly tour driver. Our guide, Leane,was bubbly and helpful and informative. The bus was clean and very comfortable and having two exits made stops much easier to enter and exit. The itinerary was very good and small towns probably were grateful for our patronage. The weather was against us in the Wairarapa however so our stop in Greytown was disappointing as everyone would have enjoyed a longer stop had it been a fine day. The show was spectacular and our seats were excellent. The venue is so handy to the James Cook Hotel which is also handy to great shopping and cafes. I highly recommend Leisuretime Tours.

Fantastic experience: I cannot speak more highly of Leisure Tours. Tonight my 77 year old mum caught the bus from Hamilton to Auckland after the Te Huia train was cancelled due to a fire in Auckland. Traffic accidents also delayed them so much that instead of arriving at 4pm they ended up getting to Parnell after dark. The driver (sadly she never got his name....) was amazing!! He went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure three female passengers got safely to their destinations and said he couldn't in all conscience leave them in the dark like that. The extra care is greatly appreciated!!

Positive experience: Great service and adventures. Comfortable buses with excellent drivers. Why it loses a star is that we leave at 7:30am but we travel around Hamilton picking up people who weren't at the depo. I think everyone should leave from the depo rather spend up to an hour waiting and travelling in Hamilton morning traffic.

Positive experience: Have some good excursions and at a fair price. Based in Hamilton and a bit messy for Auckland clients to get there. Offer a pick up service at some cost.

Fantastic experience: Our tour guides, Trish and Clem, made our visit to New Zealand so much more than just a bus tour. Their warmth and humanity came across in the care they showed on each stop of our trip. Of course they were knowledgeable, but the facts of a place can easily be found online. Guides who make you feel as if you're not just another backside filling a bus seat are special. Little things ("We're stopping here just for a moment so you can check out this little ice cream shop and try some hokey pokey ice cream...") made a big difference. I'd definitely book with this company again based on our experience with Trish and Clem

We are part of the Leisure Time Group, a family-owned and operated New Zealand travel and event management company that have been providing inspirational and unforgettable experiences since 1987.  Our core purpose is  Enriching lives through great experiences.

From day trips to coach tours, and school runs to private charters – we look after all your New Zealand travel requirements.

Our business has seen many key stages of growth over the past 30+ years:                           

1987   Leisure Time Tours was formed in 1987 by Les & Barbara Mehrtens of Hamilton New Zealand. Les started offering day trips around the region, these quickly became very popular and demand soon prompted more frequent and extended trips, including overnight regional tours. From this concept, the Leisure Time Travel Club was born and still exists today with around 1000 happy members enjoying regular day trips and NZ-wide tours.

1991  Whilst on the tour circuit with the Travel Club Les was approached by an Australian operator who noticed something about Les’s passengers – they were really happy! The Australian operator asked Les to conduct his annual New Zealand tour and from this point, Leisure Time Tours inbound division commenced.

1997  Les & Barbara’s son, Scott Mehrtens, returned from overseas and joined as a shareholder and Manager of Leisure Time Tours. Scott’s background in events and hospitality management also added another dimension to the company – working with the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events industry (MICE).

2001  Leisure Time Tours purchased their first coach to complement their tour operation. The fleet grew rapidly and new vehicles are continually added to keep up with demand from the touring operation.   Owning a coach fleet in New Zealand enables greater cost and quality control while giving agents and their guests’ assurance of seamless operations.

2011  Leisure Time Tours purchased another travel business;  Travel Time South Pacific – a well-established inbound tour operator offering travel solutions to travel agents in the UK, USA and Europe. The inbound operations continue today under the name Travel Time South Pacific, working in conjunction with our brand Leisure Time Tours.

2017  We celebrated a fantastic milestone – 30 successful years in the tourism industry!

2018  Leisure Time Tours purchased local specialist travel company; Agritravel, to enable an even broader range of specialised product offerings for our domestic and international clientele.

2019  Launched Vokali, Pure Discoveries, and the Leisure Time Group brands. Vokali is a specialist Destination Management Company and event management company. Pure Discoveries is our own retail travel brand focussing on Small Group set departures. Leisure Time Group was established to encompass a family of brands that can all sit within this parent group.

2020  Leisure Time Tours purchased Lime & Soda, a Professional Conference Organiser (PCO), to complement our events brand, Vokali.

2020  We changed our brand name to LEISURE TIME TRAVEL to reflect that we are not just about tours. Leisure Time Travel looks after all your New Zealand travel needs; from day trips and short breaks to escorted group tours, rail journeys or small boat experiences. We also love to create tailor-made travel packages for businesses or large family/friend groups.

2021 We were awarded several school bus contracts from the Ministry of Education, and formed a new division to specifically look after our bus charter and school bus work; LTGbus.co.nz

Today   Leisure Time Travel operates as part of the  Leisure Time Group  – a family of travel and event brands creating innovative and inspiring travel and event experiences around New Zealand.
