Nespresso Touch Travel Mug Review

The Touch travel mug is from Nespresso’s own brand drinkware range. The standard touch travel mug comes in a polished chrome finish. There have also been limited editions in a gold and matt black finish. As you can see from the pictures, the Nespresso Touch travel mug has a super stylish and premium look. In this Nespresso Touch Travel Mug review I look at whether it has substance as well as style. Also see how the Touch mug compares to the Nespresso Nomad travel mug . 

What We Like

• Keeps Coffee Hot : For up to 5 hours (>120°F).
• Light Weight: One of the lighter travel mugs I’ve tried that also performs well.
• Dishwasher Safe: Its simple design also makes deep cleaning easy.
• 100% Recyclable Packaging: No plastics were used.

What We Don't Like

• Not 100% Leak Proof:  Pretty leak resistant but not fully leak proof. 
• Easily Scratched: Chrome finish can pick up scratches, though the ribbed design helps to make them less visible. 
• Lack of Information from Nepresso: Difficult to find specifications or information about the mug from Nespresso.

Does the Nepresso Touch Travel Mug Keep Coffee Hot?

The Nespresso Touch mug kept coffee hot (>120°F) for up to 5 hours in my testing. 

To complete this Nespresso Touch travel mug review I performed 3 different tests to confirm how long the mug can keep coffee hot. 

During each of these tests the mug was filled to capacity for the duration of the test. Insulated cups perform best when they are full, so you can view these as best case results. If the cup were less full, or as you drink from the cup, the performance would degrade a little. 

At the start of each of these tests the temperature of the coffee was 180°F/82°C. The recommended brew temperature for coffee is around 200°F, resulting in a typical poured temperature of around 180°F. 

The tests and results are detailed in the table below. The results show that the Touch travel mug does a good job at keeping coffee hot, especially when the drinking spout is open where the heat wasn’t lost more quickly than having the lid fully closed. The hole for drinking through the lid is fairly small but I don’t find that it restrict drinking flow.

There are higher performing travel mugs of this size including the Nespresso Nomad and Contigo Byron Snap Seal mugs, however the Touch mug is still a solid choice if its looks appeal to you and you don’t need your coffee to stay hot all day.

How Long Can the Nespresso Touch Keep Drinks Cold?

You can of course use a Nespresso travel mug for carrying cold drinks as well, whether its an iced coffee or just some water. In my testing the Touch mug kept water cold for up to 12 hours. I carried out 2 tests to figure out how long the mug can keep drinks cold. 

Per the hot coffee tests, during each of the tests the mug was filled to capacity for the duration of the test. Insulated cups perform best when they are full, so you can view these as best case results. If the cup were less full, or as you drink from the cup, the performance would degrade somewhat. 

The mugs had their lids on and latch closed for the duration of the tests (the latch was quickly opened and closed for temperature testing only during the test). 

In the first test, I tested how long the mug could keep water cold at an ambient room temperature of 72°F/22°C. The water temperature at the start of the test was 61°F, this is thought to be an optimal temperature for hydration. I measured how long the water stayed below 72°F, which is at the top end of the scale for comfortable water drinking temperature. The Touch mug kept the water cold for 12 hours in this test, which was comparable to other similar travel mugs.

In the second cold drink test I wanted to see how the mug would perform at keeping drinks cold in hotter climates and used a temperature of 95°F/35°C. I started with the water a bit cooler for this test, at 51°F and tested the water temperature after 12 hours. After 12 hours the water temperature had risen to 82°F, an increase of 31°F over 12 hours compared to an 11°F temperature change over the same time in the prior test. 

Does the Nespresso Touch Travel Mug Leak?

The Nespresso Touch Travel Mug is leak resistant but it is not 100% leak proof. In testing if I vigorously shake the mug upside down some spots of water will drip out but it is a very small amount. If I leave the mug tipped over on its side for a while a small pool of water will leak out.

One of our team has been using this as their every day travel mug for commuting on the subway for around a year now. She packs this mug into her handbag and because its packed upright in a compartment of her bag she has had zero issues with it ever leaking. If you can’t guarantee the upright position in a bag or a cup holder then this might not be a good choice travel mug for you. 

Nespresso Touch Travel Mug Lid

The lid on the touch travel mug is very simple. It has only 3 pieces; the lid itself, a rubber gasket/seal and a latch opening. The latch lifts up and pushes back onto the opposite side of the mug which I really like as it is not in the way when drinking but also stays attached to the mug so I don’t drop or lose it. When closing the latch it clicks back into place firmly. The lid also has a groove on the rim which the latch is clipped into when closed. When the latch is open and I’m drinking from the mug, my lip rests against the groove which I find comfortable. I’m not sure if this is an intentional design element or a coincidence but it works well for me. 

As you can see from the photographs the lid is mostly one moulded piece of plastic with the hinged latch attached. I find this really easy for cleaning. Whilst the lid and mug are fully dishwasher safe I still occasionally deep clean. The simple design on this lid means you can easily spot any dirt and I have not had any issues with mould in this lid. 

I have seen some reports of the lids getting damaged or broken when dropped but so far after many months mine is still in good condition. Nespresso don’t sell replacement lids for the touch travel mug but you may be able to claim on warranty if you think you have a reasonable case.

One of my frustrations with this mug is the lack of information provided by Nespresso. I was unable to find any information on the warranty available for Nespresso accessories and could only find the details for their coffee machines. This applied both online and in the literature which came with the mug. I also couldn’t find any information on the mug materials, for example whether the plastics used are BPA free. On the plus side, the Nespresso website has a customer service chat service which I find to be very responsive. One of their customer services agents confirmed that they have a 6 month warranty on all of the Nespresso accessories (2 years for machines), and that the travel mugs are BPA free.

A new Haunted Mansion tiki mug is now available for a limited time at Trader Sam’s in Disney World in celebration of Halfway to Halloween!

Disney has been celebrating Halfway to Halloween  all week with exciting announcements and limited-edition treats in the park . And, if you are in the park this week, Disney has shared a new souvenir that can only be picked up during the Halfway to Halloween celebrations in Disney World!

A new Haunted Mansion tiki mug is now available at Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto and Tiki Terrace located at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. On the Disney Eats Instagram account, DIsney shared that wristband distribution for the mug will begin at 12 PM EST daily and will be sold with your choice of one of two specialty beverages. In the past, we’ve seen these limited tiki mugs go quickly, so make sure to get in line early if you want to make sure to secure your spot for a tiki mug. At this time, Disney has not shared how long the tiki mug will be available. Most special treats for Halfway to Halloween are available now through April 23, 2023.
