One of the two national drinks of the Maldives, the other being Sai (tea), Raa is a typical traditional Maldivian drink.

Popular maldives tour packages, faqs about maldives tour packages.

Q. How is Maldives as a destination for solo travellers? A. Before going through Maldives packages figure out your prerogative, whether you would be travelling solo, as a couple or with your family. Interestingly, there are several packages meant exclusively for the solo traveller, for plenty of people around the world love travelling solo to The Maldives. An island most popular with backpackers is Maafushi, about 27 kilometre from the capital Male, on the South Male Atoll. The reason for the island’s popularity with backpackers and solo travellers is its vast array of opportunities and considerably low prices of accommodation. This biggish island with its population of around 3000 people is replete with little attractions and places of sightsee and, not to mention, snow-white beaches skirting an azure sea, diving sites and places to go angling in. There is a glut of plush guesthouses, holiday homes and hotels on the beach and amid scenic wilderness too, which are more budget-friendly than those you would find at more remoter beaches with a solitary resort. Backpackers love Maafushi’s Bikini Beach, the narrow strip of sand which has several seafood restaurants along with a few hotels and a dive centre. Q. What is the best season to travel to Maldives? A. Maldives tour packages can be booked round the year, but you need to be aware of the archipelago’s seasons and which most ideal for a visit. The only season in Maldives is the monsoon. But there are distinctly different monsoon it experiences; the dry and wet monsoon. The wet monsoon is typically the summer months, from May up to November, when you might find frequent rain showers and humidity through the day. The average day temperature reaches a maximum 29 degree Celsius in these months. The frequent rains lowers the water temperature making it imperfect for scuba diving or snorkelling, and with no seasonal oceanic currents you wouldn’t have any visibility for spotting marine life. But it is a good time for budget travellers since the hotel rates are significantly slashed owing to lower footfalls. The dry monsoon spell from December to April is when tourists arrive by the busloads to the Maldives. The humidity is under control in these months and the rains have nearly petered out, limited only to a light mizzle in the afternoons and night. The temperature at this time lingers between 27 and 29 degree Celsius. But since Maldives does not receive cyclones or high winds at any point, you can have a pleasant time in this tropical paradise. Q. Are there direct flights from India to Maldives? A. Before settling for one of the Maldives holiday packages you need to first book your flights and look for direct connectivity from your city to Male, the capital of the Maldives. Maldives’ closest neighbours are India and Sri Lanka, lying to the south-west of Trivandrum in Kerala and to the east-west of Sri Lanka. There are direct flights from Colombo in Sri Lanka to Male and now there are non-stop flights to the Maldives from all major Indian metros such as Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore and Kochi. The domestic carriers that connect Indian cities to the Maldives include SpiceJet, IndiGo, AirAsia, national carrier Air India, Vistara and GoFirst, and the international airlines serving the route comprise Sri Lankan Airlines, Lufthansa, British Airways, Air France, China Southern, Qatar Airways, Emirates, Cathay Pacific, Etihad, Hong Kong Airlines to name a few. There are flights from Delhi to Male too, but it comes with a stopover in either Kochi, Bangalore or Mumbai. Q. Where exactly is the Maldives? A. The Maldives is an archipelagic country with nearly 1200 islands formed out of natural atolls. It lies on the Indian Ocean to the south-west of Kerala’s capital, Trivandrum and on the east-west side of Sri Lanka. SriLankan airlines , for instance, operates flights from Colombo that get you to Male in an hour straight. India and Sri Lanka are the Maldives’ closest neighbours. Q. What is the visa procedure for a holiday in the Maldives? A. The Maldives provides visa on-arrival to its visitors provided you hold a passport that has validity of six months and more and can produce your hotel booking voucher or invoice stating the precise dates of check-in and out, as well as your return flight ticket details. This can be done by queuing up at the immigrating counter of the Male International Airport. Q. What is an accepted currency in the Maldives? A. While the Maldivian Rufiyaa is the national currency with 1 Maldivian Rufiyaa being equal to 4.47 Indian Rupees, the USD remains the more accepted currency for tourists. Your resorts prefer you pay up for any additional services in USD. Even when pursuing water activities or boat cruises, you need to make your deposit in USD. On a trip to the Maldives, ensure you have enough USD loaded up in your multi-currency card aside from carrying a small wad of cash. Q. Can I visit the Maldives in the summer months? A. The Maldives receives two kinds of monsoon, wet monsoon and dry monsoon. In the summer months which is the wet monsoon season that lasts between May and November isn’t quite ideal for a trip because the rain showers are intense and the humidity levels are also quite high. The average temperature lingers at 29 degree Celsius in these months. It is also not the best season for scuba diving or snorkelling because the water temperatures are lower and there are no seasonal oceanic currents as well leading to reduced visibility for marine life spotting. But this may well be a good time to get some off-season rates at hotels. Q. Are there frequent flights in and out of the Maldives? A. Yes, the Maldives have emerged into a well-travelled destination across the world with regular flights in and out of the Male International Airport. Some popular airlines with flights to the Maldives include Sri Lankan Airlines, SpiceJet, GoAir, IndiGo, Air India, Air France, Emirates, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Lufthansa, Etihad, AirAsia, Qatar Airways, China Southern, Hong Kong Airlines among others. Q. What sort of electric outlet is used in the Maldives? A. In most places, you can get around with the standard UK 3-pin flat plugs. The electrical current is between 220 and 240 volts and your resort can provide you with adaptors to charge your phone or laptop batteries. But it is always good to notify them ahead of your travel. Q. How good is the Wi-Fi connectivity in the Maldives? A. All 5-star resorts provide complimentary Wi-Fi in your villa/cottage and even in a few of the public spaces. The network is usually strong enough for you to browse the net, use your social media pages, upload photos or make a Skype call. At guesthouses and more economic accommodation options, you are charged for the same. You also have the option of buying a data pack locally to not bloat up your internet bills. Q. Can I carry my alcohol with me to the Maldives? A. Not at all, in fact it is illegal to bring alcohol into the Maldives. Your resort of stay would have a special permit from its government for serving premium international liquor brands. And you can enjoy your favourite poison without any hassle. Q. Can I get a seaplane anytime I want to check into my resort in the Maldives? A. That won’t be possible because seaplanes are functional only in the daylight hours usually between 06:00 am and 04:00 pm. In case your international flights arrives post 04:00 pm, then you would have to spend the night at a nearby hotel in Male and take the earliest flight out to your atoll. Q. What is the water temperature in the Maldives? A. Owing to the Maldives tropical climate, the water temperatures stay warm through the year, hovering between 28 and 30 degree Celsius. This is an ideal temperature to go for a swim, and simply perfect if you intend to go diving or snorkelling.

Best Time To Visit Maldives:

December to April is considered the best time to visit the Maldives as this is the summer season in the Maldives. The season is quite popular among tourists to enjoy their holidays and honeymoon, making it a heavily crowded place, as the Maldives don’t face any rainfall during these months. Due to Christmas and New Year celebrations, December sees a massive sea of people here. Hotel rates are at a peak these days, so it is better to get an all-inclusive Maldives package. Also, you can enjoy your favourite water activities and sports till the last day of April. May to November is the monsoon season, and you’ll end up facing heavy rainfall. Hotels and resorts are usually less pricey during this season, but still, it is not recommended to visit in this season, as you will not get the best experience of Maldives.

Ten Reasons to Visit Maldives

1. the maldives promotes sustainable eco-friendly tourism.

It is one of the few countries in the world that has combined ecological conservation with tourism and even educated tourists about the need to preserve and protect the country’s delicate ecosystem. Almost every resort is surrounded by lush mangroves, and the sea is teeming with marine life, ranging from sea turtles and hermit crabs to manta rays and corals.

Guests can even volunteer by collecting marine waste or participating in reef clean-up exercises. Children are encouraged to help conservationists working to protect the plant and animal species in the country.

2. The Best Honeymoon Destination

The country has been consistently named among the world’s top ten honeymoon destinations, including Conde Nast Traveller. There’s nothing more romantic than lying on a hammock on a private deck of your overwater villa, sipping a martini, or relishing scrumptious seafood. Or, enjoying candlelight dinner by a private beach with the ocean and the white sands for company! If you have ever dreamt of a laidback luxurious honeymoon, check out our Maldives honeymoon packages .

3. Swim With Sharks and Manta Rays

Swimming with sharks, manta rays, and other marine animals ticks on the top ten bucket lists of most visitors to Maldives. The UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve in Hanifaru Bay is the best place for this – you can swim with over 200 sharks and manta rays while snorkeling. The South Ari Atoll in Dhigurah is a famous whale shark area with several spots for free snorkeling.

4. Overwater Bungalows

Staying at an overwater bungalow is definitely on the bucket list of experiences for travellers visiting an island country. But Maldives takes the experience a notch higher. With an infinity pool, a luxury spa island, and a private terrace with an unending view of the Indian Ocean, there’s nothing more you’ll need for a dreamy vacation, not to mention the whale sharks, manta rays, and other marine animals that visit you occasionally as you sip passionfruit daiquiri! You can even choose an underwater room with floor-to-wall ceilings submerged below the Indian Ocean.

5. Amazing Marine Life

You cannot visit the Maldives and not admire the island country’s mesmerizing marine life. The azure waters are absolutely teeming with life, including coral reefs, turtles, whale sharks, manta rays, moray eels, blueline snappers, octopuses, and dolphins. With over 200 colourful coral species, the underwater world sure feels like a scene out of Finding Nemo.

6. The Country Is Racing Against Time

The island you visited during your last vacation may not remain for long, completely disappearing from the world. Thanks to global warming and rising sea levels, Maldives may become uninhabitable in the distant future. It is the world’s lowest-lying nation and only 1.3 metres above sea level. We suggest you visit the place at least once before it is gone forever.

7. Beautiful Beaches

The powdery white sands and turquoise waters are perfect for sunbathing. The sky is in red, orange, and purple hues, and the temperature always ranges from a comfortable 25 to 30 degrees Celsius.

8. Scrumptious Seafood

Maldivian cuisine is influenced by Sri Lankan and Indian flavours, with coconut being an essential aspect of the food. While there is a vast variety of seafood, some local favourites include different types of tuna, mackerel, and mahi- mahi. Plenty of resorts offer an array of international cuisine, but if you’re interested in local food, try gulha, the country’s national dish made using smoked tuna, coconut, and onions filled inside a pasty and deep fried.

9. Underwater Activities

A visit to the Maldives is incomplete without undertaking one of the many water-based activities. The country is one of the best scuba diving activities in the world. Snorkelling is equally fun if the colourful underwater world amazes you. And if you’re uncomfortable doing either, we suggest you take a banana boat ride or a sunset cruise.

10. Budget Destination

This is contrary to what most people would say, but if you have the right travel company, you can always find affordable Maldives tour packages and yet enjoy all the fantastic things this beautiful country has to offer. Flight tickets from Chennai and Bangalore cost less than INR 10,000 and much less if you book through tour operators like GT Holidays.

Maldives packages

The Maldives has been historically and culturally close to India and even shares a maritime border. The origins of Dhivehi, the official language of the Maldives, date back to Sanskrit and Pali, with some anthropologists claiming that a certain percentage of Maldivians actually hails from Southern India. In fact, there are reports that cowrie shells from the Maldives were used as currency throughout Bengal and even as early as the Indus Civilization.

Even today, Maldives remains a favourite tourist destination for Indians. The country is only 3.5 hours from Chennai and 2 hours from Bangalore. Maldives tour packages are especially popular during the off-season when it rains intermittently. Typically, most Indian tourists choose short Maldives tour packages with 3 nights and 4 days , while some prefer a longer stay spanning 6 nights and 7 days.

All Maldives resorts are on their own island, with each island ranging from 2.5 km to just 150m. This means that the resort you choose for your Maldives tour package has a huge impact on your vacation experience. The facilities offered by the resort (restaurant, bar, entertainment, etc.) will likely be the only ones you will access throughout the stay.

Thankfully, there are over 160 island resorts to choose from, ranging from affordable to over the top luxurious. Some of the things you must consider include, distance from Male, the country’s capital city, the type of transfers available, and activities within the resort.

Some of The Things You Must Look for When Choosing Maldives Tour Package Include

  • Resorts close to Male have shorter transfers, but may not be as quiet as you would expect. Resorts far from Male may seem remote but are quieter. Besides hotels offer seaplane transfer.
  • Most islands only have one or two restaurants. If you’ve chosen a remote island resort, remember to pick resorts that offer a buffet rather than a set menu.
  • While most activities are included in the package, remember to read the description to understand what’s included and what you’ll have to pay for extra.
  • Read the description for entertainment options because not everyone offers discos or live music. If you love to party, this is important.
  • Most dive centres are managed by third-party companies. Check with the tour operator about extra charges and what’s included in the package.
  • While most resorts offer water sports like scuba diving and windsurfing, you must know if they’re included in the package.
  • Resorts vary in size and the number of guests they can accommodate. Generally, expensive hotels have fewer rooms to ensure exclusivity and privacy. Besides, if the description reads that all rooms have a beachfront view, chances are, they will all have a beach before them and you won’t have to share it with other guests. Prices may vary depending on the distance between the rooms and the beach.
  • If you’re choosing a beach hotel, read the description on the website clearly for the view. Some rooms are set back on the island, some are in the water, and some are on the beach. While most resorts are set on stilts, not all of them offer direct access to the ocean, i.e., you cannot step down into the sea and will have to walk to the beach if you fancy a swim.

Top 10 Places You Must Not Miss in the Maldives

Travelling in Maldives | Food, Culture, Art, Craft & Entertainment

Maldives’ culture revolves around the sea and is influenced by the lifestyle of the Indians, Arabs, and Sri Lankans who migrated and later assimilated to create a unique melting pot. The country has a lot of Dravidian influences, with the Dhivehi language sounding similar to Sinhalese, the language of Sri Lanka. Interestingly, the locals are called Dhivehin, a word that could be traced back to the Tamil word theev or dheev, meaning island.

While the Maldivians were originally Buddhist, Islam became the only and of the country since the 12th century. Only Sunni Muslims are allowed to be a citizen and own land.

Cuisine and Food

Fish is an integral part of Maldivian cuisine and an important ingredient. Coconut oil and milk are other primary ingredients, although the style of cooking is influenced by the Arabs, Indians, and Sri Lankans. Some of the local food you can try include – Mas huni, Fihunu mas, garudhiya, etc. But if you’re not a fan of seafood, there are multiple restaurants serving food from around the world.

Since Islam is the primary religion, Maldivians celebrate all Islamic festivals, namely, Eid-Ul Fitr, Eid-Ul Adha, The Prophet’s Birthday, etc. Besides, they also celebrate the country’s national and republic day.

Art and Craft

Maldivians are master boat builders. They have perfected the art of making dhoni, a traditional boat that can withstand the rough conditions of the sea. Tourists can buy miniature dhonis as souvenirs besides lacquerware and coir products, handwoven mats, and carved stones.

Entertainment

While traditional music and dance have a strong influence on African, Arabian, and Indian influences, Bollywood music, especially old Hindi songs are famous across the island country. Bodu Beru or big drums is a traditional dance song that starts slow but builds a frenzy and is performed by a group of 15 to 20 men.

Maldives At a Glance

Best places to visit in maldives.

Maldives is an extraordinary nation with beauty following you wherever you go. The country has over 1200 islands, but only 200 are inhabited. While every island has its own charm and is worth visiting, it is practically impossible to cover all of them within your short vacation. We’ve listed 10 of the most visited islands you must not miss the next time you’re in Maldives:

This is the capital of Maldives and a great place to begin your Maldives tour package. The island is close to nearby attractions like Maafushi and Rasdhoo Islands. If you’re interested in exploring Maldivian culture and history, Male is a must-visit. Some of the local attractions here include – the Grand Friday Mosque, the Victory Monument, National Museum, etc.

But if you’re looking to lounge by the beach and explore the country’s marine life, we suggest you go to other islands. However, you can stay in Male, taking day trips to adjoining islands to enjoy scuba diving, dolphin watching, snorkelling, and other activities. Maldives tour packages that include day trips leaving from Male are comparatively affordable.

Nalaguraidhoo Island

Nalaguraidhoo Island is located on the South Ari Atoll and around sixty kilometres from Male International Airport. It is famous for its sunkissed beaches and is even popularly called Sun Island. The island is a famous honeymoon destination with picturesque landscapes, coconut trees, colourful marine life, and beautiful beaches. The island is home to some of the world’s famous beaches, including the Nalaguraidhoo Island Beach, providing a perfectly private atmosphere with its thick vegetation and powdery white sands. Some of the water sports you can enjoy here include canoeing, scuba diving, snorkelling, and kayaking.

And to make the trip even more interesting, you can take up nighttime fishing and even fry your own catch. But the highlight of the vacation has to be diving into the crystal clear waters to swim with manta rays, coral reefs, sea turtles, and other colorful fishes.

Maafushi Island

It is also a tourist-friendly destination with a designated Bikini Beach especially for tourists to swim or sunbathe in swimsuits. Unlike private resort islands, Maafushi is a lot cheaper thanks to the huge number of guesthouses that compete for business. You’ll definitely get a good price for your accommodation and activities. Some of the things you can do at Maafushi include – snorkeling, scuba diving, admiring the bioluminescent planktons, and planning a resort day trip to nearby islands.

Maafushi is a part of the Kaafu Atoll. It is one of the biggest and most tourist-oriented islands in the country with over 70 guest houses serving thousands of guests across the year. This is probably because the island is well connected to Male through speed boats and local ferries.

Hulhumale Island

Hulhumale is 7km from the airport and part of the North Male Atoll. The island is a sought-after destination among tourists thanks to its proximity to Male. There are plenty of accommodation options and activities to choose from for tourists. You could go swimming, kayaking, or simply lounge on the beach to soak up the sun. Hulhumale is a honeymooner’s paradise who comes here to enjoy a romantic time in seclusion.

Ukulhas Island

This is a fairly remote island about 70 kilometres from Male and can be reached via speedboat in 2 hours. Ukulhas is part of the Alif Alif Atoll and is surrounded by beautiful coral reefs and lagoons. Accommodation options range from affordable guest houses and beach villas to water bungalows to suit different budgets.

The island is famous for its white sandy beaches and incredibly varied marine life with animals ranging from giant mantas and stingrays to zebra sharks, reef sharks, and colorful fish species.

Baros Island

Baros is around 16 kilometres from Male and can be reached via speedboat in 25 minutes. It is a part of the North Male Atoll and is famous for its water villas. Tourists prefer Baros Islands for its privacy and the luxury treatment accorded to guests. The island is famous for its white powdery beaches, including the Angsana and Vabbininfaru beaches. Some of the activities you can enjoy in Baros include snorkeling, diving, and canoeing. You can also visit the Marine Centre to help tourists learn more about the country’s conservation efforts.

Baros Island is a favourite destination for weddings and among honeymooners and the ultra-rich looking for some privacy.

Huvahendhoo Island

This is a perfect destination for family Maldives tour packages thanks to its custom-made attractions designed to accommodate families with kids. The island is famous for its resorts, water bungalows, beach villas, and other accommodations, besides an array of fine dining restaurants serving international cuisine.

Huvahendhoo is around 87 kilometres and can be reached via ferry or plane. There are plenty of activities you can take up in the island, including snorkelling. Reef fishing, and jet skiing.

Best Beaches in Maldives

Hulhumale Beach

This is one of the most popular and most visited beaches in the Maldives, thanks to the multiple hotels and resorts around the area. Hulhumale is often a part of most Maldives tour packages because of its excellent weather and amazing range of water sports activities. But being a public beach, you will be expected to dress modestly.

Mudhdhoo Beach

Among other things, Mudhdhoo is famous for the bioluminescent planktons that illuminate the shores at night, giving you a surreal illusion of starry skies. The beach is part of the Baa Atoll and a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. While there are six bikini beaches (basically, beaches where you are allowed to wear a bikini) in Maldives, the one on Maafushi Island is loved for its Insta-worthy ambiance. Top 10 Things to Do in Maldives

Naturally, if you’re in the Maldives, relaxing and sunbathing feature prominently on your list of things to do. But the island country has plenty of things to offer. Here is a list of things you can do besides lounging on the beach.

1. Sign Up for Scuba Diving and Snorkeling

With over 90,000 square kilometers of ocean surrounding the island country, it’s hardly surprising that Maldives is perfect for snorkeling and scuba diving. Almost every resort features reefs that are close enough for travelers to swim. Some popular fishes you can enjoy include butterfly fish, clownfish, angelfish, and parrotfish. You can also sign up for beginner and seasoned scuba diving lessons.

2. Explore The Country’s Culture and Islamic Heritage

With Islam being the only and primary religion in Maldives, it is no surprise that religion influences everyday aspects of life in the country. You cannot truly explore a place without understanding its local culture and food habits. Some places you must visit in the country include National Museum, Old Friday Mosque, Grand Friday Mosque, and the Male Local Market.

3. Enjoy Spa Sessions

With relaxation and comfort being the very essence of a Maldives vacation, it’s no surprise that spa massages are at the center of every Maldives holiday. Spa treatments at most resorts include a variety of massages, facial treatments, and other spa offerings. You can choose from overwater floating spas with gorgeous views or underwater spas surrounded by marine life.

4. Candlelight Dinners by The Beach

With private beaches promising exclusivity, candlelight dining is a part of every romantic Maldives vacation experience. Proposing your fiancé on the white sandy beaches overlooking turquoise waters is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. You could also look for underwater restaurants offering a clear view of the reefs, colourful fishes, and manta rays.

5. Cruise Packages

Taking up day cruises is essential in most packages, allowing you to explore marine life and clear waters while lounging on a yacht touring the reefs and the surrounding ocean. This is an ideal activity for families and can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

6. Day Trips

Planning day trips to nearby islands is another favorite activity, allowing you to explore the country and make the most of your vacation.

7. Adventure Sports

Maldives is a paradise for water-based adventure sports enthusiasts. You can swim with manta rays, go parasailing, and enjoy fishing, surfing, kayaking, wakeboarding, and even kitesurfing.

8. Shopping

Maldives is famous for its coconut shell-based handicrafts, miniature dhonis, and lacquer work. You can also buy handmade necklaces, bracelets, charms, and other items made using seashells, tree resin, and other locally available natural ingredients.

9. Enjoy On a Glowing Beach

At night, the shores along some of Maldives’ beaches are full of bioluminescence planktons that float in the area. Walking on the beach is safe and, in fact, a thrilling experience.

10. Helicopter Tour

An aerial tour of the different islands is the best way to experience the breathtaking beauty of the place and the stunning scenery of the clear lagoons, bright blue waters, and unique island designs.

Things To Remember in The Maldives

Indeed, Maldives is a beautiful and magical destination. But it is equally unique regarding culture, climate, and geography. Here are some of the things you must know before visiting the country:

It’s A Beautiful but Sinking Country

Almost all islands in the country are only 1 meter above sea level. By 2050, nearly 80% of the country could sink because of rising sea levels. When visiting the Maldives, remember to keep your experience eco-friendly. This includes choosing environmentally sustainable resorts, avoiding plastic, supporting coral restoration efforts, and keeping the beach clean by returning your trash after every beach outing. And do not take seashells back home – it’s illegal and negatively affects hermit crab habitats because they make these seashells their home.

Maldives Is an Islamic Country

Maldives is a conservative country with strict rules about food, alcohol, and clothing. For instance, you cannot consume alcohol publicly and are expected to dress modestly. Similarly, pork is banned in the country. And so are religious books and idols. Kissing and other public displays of affection are frowned upon and could even be considered offensive, leading to punitive action. Similarly, do not discuss LGBTQ issues openly with the locals, as this is sensitive.

Check If the Resort Allows Kids

Not all resorts are kid-friendly. So, make sure the resort has activities for kids before choosing Maldives tour packages. This is especially important when booking overwater villas.

maldives tour packages

Wi-Fi Connectivity Can Be Spotty

Almost all resorts advertise free Wi-Fi, but the signals could be weak and slow. You cannot expect the resorts to have the same connectivity as you would expect in a big city.

Not All Watersports Are Covered in All-Inclusive Packages

While most Maldives tour packages cover non-motorized activities like paddle boarding and canoeing, you must pay extra for jet skiing, catamaran sailing, and scuba diving. However, some resorts offer additional deals on activities like dolphin cruises, snorkeling, etc., if you choose to extend your stay by an extra night.

How To Reach Maldives?

The only way to reach the Maldives from India is by air. There are multiple flights from Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kochi, Hyderabad, and other major cities. Kochi is the closest city, with flights costing less than INR 6000. Some airlines operating flights to Maldives include Air India, IndiGo, and Spice Jet. You can also book tickets on international airlines like Qatar Airways, Emirates, and Sri Lankan Airlines.

Best Time to Visit Maldives

The ideal time to visit the Maldives would be from December to April when there’s little rain and low humidity. But a lot depends on what you’re expecting from the vacation.

  • If you’re looking for the cheapest time to visit Maldives, look for Maldives tour packages during the wet season, i.e., from May to October. This is when hotel rates are substantially low, and even throw in great deals like free transfers, room upgrades, and free nights.
  • If you’re interested in scuba diving, sign up for a vacation package during the dry season.
  • If swimming with manta rays and whale sharks is on your bucket list in the Maldives, the best time to spot them would be August to November.

Our recommendation to visit Maldives and neighboring countries

Multi country vacation packages including maldives, extraordinary maldives vacation packages & tours.

Our Maldives vacation packages take you to one of the finest desert island getaway destinations. This stunning archipelago dreamscape of 1,200 islets and atolls in the Indian Ocean has modern accommodations, fantastic cuisine, and epic activities.

Famed for its warm temperatures, turquoise waters, and white sand beaches , the Maldives is an incredibly idyllic location.

Exotticca vacation packages are all-inclusive, covering flights, transfers, hotels, tours. Some of our offerings also include some meals.

Maldives vacation packages from the USA

Exoticca offers a range of Maldives vacation packages from the US , tailored to suit your needs. The gorgeous archipelago is about 470 miles southwest of the Indian mainland. It comprises over 35,000 square miles of area and a mere 115 square miles of land.

The land forms the highest reaches of a submarine mountain range that barely peaks above the waves. The highest point in the country is less than eight feet above sea level, making it the lowest-lying nation. It also means it’s most at risk from rising sea levels.

With secluded lodgings in luxurious bungalows just above the water , the Maldives offers pristine scenery, iconic landmarks, and vibrant culture.

You can take on a variety of watersports, like snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing, and sailing. Spot dolphins or whale sharks , or laze on an empty sandbank in the middle of the ocean.

Vacation packages to Maldives offer a balance between relaxation and a cultural experience. Enjoy a few days of lazing on a postcard beach, taking time to slow down to the island pace before you delve into the local community.

Top points of interest in the Maldives

Each year, more than 1.5 million tourists book Maldives vacation packages. There’s plenty to see and do with 2,500 years of documented history on the sprawling island nation. We assess a few local Kaafu atoll islands within reach of the capital below.

Malé

Named after its unique capital (Maldives—Islands of Malé), this island is utterly urbanized. Buildings take up every last bit of space, and about 250,000 inhabitants cram into just 8.3 km².  Stroll through the labyrinth of cafes and bazaars with one of our vacation packages in the Maldives.

Take a walking tour to discover the hidden gems of bustling Malé. Visit the thronging fish market to see the catch of the day. View landmarks like the Friday Mosque, Sultan Park, and President’s Palace.

You may visit this charming public island on one of our Maldives resort vacation packages.

Snorkel with manta rays, dive, surf, or discover other watersports . If the season is right, don’t miss the otherworldly bioluminescent plankton.

You can island-hop or sample a few of the local restaurants. There’s even an ATM, a relative luxury.

Around 22 miles northeast of the capital lies the small island of Dhiffushi.  Our vacation packages to the Maldives include this pristine slice of paradise . It’s home to about 1,200 people and has some shops and several hotels.

Indulge your adventurous side with a canoe safari around the lagoon , or take a boat out to the many lonely sand spits. You could go island hopping, but there’s plenty to do on Dhiffushi. You can catch some red snapper for lunch or sit down for a romantic beach dinner.    Some say the sunset dolphin cruise makes memories that last a lifetime, while the snorkeling is exceptional .

Huraa Island

A part of North Malé atoll, the island is famous for being the  birthplace of the last royal dynasty . Near several private resort islands, it’s still only 12.4 miles from the capital, Malé. Many tourists visit on a day trip , but others stay longer.   We include this busy island in our Maldives vacation packages. It has several eateries and many guesthouses double as full-time restaurants. There are top-end hotels and bargain options. Stroll around the village and visit souvenir shops or go night fishing . You can even do a turtle safari.

POINTS OF INTEREST

More information about Maldives

One of the world's most lusted-after beach destinations, a Maldives vacation package is a dream come true for many travelers. Its appeal lies in its up-market private island resorts, where secluded beaches lapped by warm turquoise waters invite visitors to find their own personal bliss.

An island nation in the Indian Ocean , the Maldives is composed of a chain of 26 atolls , reached by speedboat or seaplane from the capital of Malé . With almost 1200 islands in total, the Maldives exudes indulgence and luxury. Who can resist the chance to stay in an overwater villa or to explore the underwater world of the warm Indian Ocean waters, bursting with schools of tropical fish, sea turtles, and even whale sharks?

A Maldives vacation package is a must-do for newlyweds who enjoy the finer things in life, although budget travelers shouldn’t rule out the archipelago. Numerous guesthouses on the larger islands cater to more modest budgets. The explorer Marco Polo once described the Maldives as the ‘Pearls of the Indian Ocean’ , however not all of the nation's islands were created equal. Most of the all-inclusive resorts and hotels in the Maldives are concentrated in Malé , in the south, whilst in the Ari Atoll , to the west, there are communities of local fishermen and the occasional Buddhist ruins, abandoned for centuries. Baa Atoll , in the north, is the origin of much of the Maldives quality arts and crafts.

History of the Maldives

The Maldives is known for its rich Islamic heritage, which can be traced back to the 12th-century when contact with Arab merchants and travelers paved the way for the adoption of Islam as the national religion, officially replacing Buddhism in 1153 and transforming the archipelago into a unified Sultanate. A short-lived Portuguese occupation in the 16th-century is the only time the country has lost its independence although it voluntarily became a British Protectorate in 1887 .

Due to the strong unity of the archipelago under the Sultanate , the Maldives was able to defend its independence throughout the centuries. The Sultanate dynasties were followed by an elective Sultanate in 1932 and the archipelago gained complete independence from the British in 1965 , becoming a republic shortly thereafter. The Maldives remained a member of the Commonwealth up until 2016. More recent history has been focused on the challenges the islands face in terms of climate change and rising sea levels, and the country is determined to become carbon neutral, so a trip to the Maldives is a great choice for eco-travelers.

Nature in the Maldives

Geographically one of the world's most dispersed countries, the Maldives is an island paradise with an atoll or tiny islet to suit all tastes. Famed for its powder-soft white sand and glistening turquoise waters, a Maldives tour package all-inclusive  is the perfect antidote to our busy modern lives, giving visitors the chance to unwind in beautiful, untouched natural surroundings. A tropical climate ensures year-round warm weather, so an escape to these paradise shores is perfect at any time.

The best-loved part of Maldives is its amazing marine ecosystem. Coral reefs support an amazing array of sea life and the shallow waters make spotting the varied species delightfully easy. You can even watch the rainbow-colored schools of fish from the comfort of your beach lounger, although for larger species, such as whale sharks and manta rays, grab a snorkel or, better yet, some scuba diving and snorkeling equipment. The part of the Indian Ocean surrounding the Maldives is home to more than 1000 fish species, 5 sea turtle species, and an amazing 21 different species of dolphins and whales. Don’t pass up the chance to explore the Baa Atoll during a tour of the Maldives as this UNESCO Biosphere Reserve is home to one of the richest coral reef systems in the world.

Culture in the Maldives

Influenced by the cultures of the different people that have settled on the islands over the centuries, the unique culture of the Maldives is strongly linked to the national religion of Islam and shaped by the realities of island life. On a trip to the Maldives, you’re sure to notice the beautiful Islamic architecture in this Muslim country, especially on the more densely inhabited islands. The official language is Dhivehi, closely related to the language of Sri Lanka , although English is widely spoken and understood. Traditional music and dances from across the Indian Subcontinent such as the North Indian Kathak dance and Indian music are popular with locals across the archipelago. Folk tales passed down through the generations are another important part of Maldivan identity and the Maldives is famed for its intricate woodcarving crafts and coconut-wood boats, known as dhonis .

Plunge into turquoise waters, alive with tropical sealife and lounge on beaches so perfect that the only thing to disrupt your bliss might be the sound of a falling coconut. This is what the  Maldives all-inclusive vacation  promises and undoubtedly delivers. From tiny atolls and resorts islands to the fascinating cityscape of Malé, the Maldives is a bucket-list destination everyone should experience once in their life.

Really enjoyed it! Good boat, good food, great snorkelling and also the CEO helped me so I could do a dive instead of snorkelling one of the days which I really appreciate. Could skip the beach clean up, not that its not needed but after collecting several of bags with trash the bags where just left on the island. Just left us all with a bad feeling, first of all seeing all the trash and then collecting as much as we could, was so much left though, just to leave it on the island in the end 🤷‍♀️. BUT the tour was great!
I love the Maldives and really liked Sri Lanka. I'd return (and may) in a heartbeat. The tour "leaders" were top-notch. The food, good, plentiful and inexpensive. Accommodations and transportation were very good. 4.5/5.

Quite an amazing adventure on Maldives made possible with care of the ecosystems and support to the Maldivian people. My guide, Archie/Muhamed was the best guide anyone could ever have in seeing and enjoying the beauty of Maldives. His connections with Maldivian people made my trip comfortable, convenient and an adventure to treasure. Would love to do it again with my family! Thank you so much Archie and Ruth!!

I don’t think I got my money’s worth, the only good thing was our guide, reefs and warm ocean. Let’s talk about hotels that we had to stay in four different islands they all were miserable cheap hotels some of them we had to get in from a dark alley, even we requested hand soap never received it from any of the motels they can not possibly be more than $30 a night We only went to cafes never a decent restaurant. The last island we went was Gulhi I still don’t know why we were there, absolutely nothing to do no reef no snorkeling all we did stay in the motel. THE ONLY ISLAND I WILL RECOMMEND IS MAAFUJI. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY IN ANY OTHER ISLANDS. ANY CARIBBEAN ISLAND HAS WHAT MALDIVES HAS MINUS 72% HUMIDITY
I loved this trip. Not just the fact that it was in the stunning Maldives but our guide Zaff was just amazing. He made everything run smoothly with his easy going and humorous personality. The activities that were included were all really well put together and the trip was good value. I would definitely recommend this trip to others. Can't wait to get back to the beautiful Maldives - I miss you...

A huge highlight was meeting and chatting to a Buddhist monk who we met at one of the temples. Standing on top of breathtaking Sigiriya Lion Rock in the early morning. Also swimming with turtles, rays and amazing bright fish in the Maldives.
It was the most amazing trip I’ve been on in 40 years of travel

Love the hotel! Pick up was waiting for us. Everyone pleasant and helpful.
We are just finishing our Best of Sri Lanka and Maldives tour. The Sri Lanka itinerary was perfect. We saw and experienced so many things: stunning temples, majestic scenery, a beautiful beach, an old Dutch fort, etc. But it was our guide, Sasika who made the trip spectacular. I didn’t expect the tour to be just my husband and myself but it worked out great. Sasika was very easy going and fun to be around. He was always generous with advice and recommendations (and he found the best restaurants). He was always there for us, which really made our time in Sri Lanka great. The Maldives was beautiful. The flight was fine and we met up with the representative easily but to be honest, the hotel, Kaani Grand Seaview, was only ok. It would have been great if we were in our 20s but not so much when you are in your 70s. The people were nice, the beach was across the street, but the air conditioning just couldn’t handle the hot and humid weather (the maintenance person checked it and it got alittle better but it was never comfortable in the room). And because we had an early flight (9:40 am) and the hotel’s earliest transfer was 8 am, we were going to have to pay for our own speed boat transfer so we just moved to a hotel near the airport for the last night. Great hotel with working air conditioning- pure bliss. There was a beach also across the street and In truth, Hulhumale was more interesting to walk around than Maafushi. But I do highly recommend this tour company, especially for tours in Sri Lanka. They were very quick to respond to any question I had prior to arriving and Sasika followed up on any question once we were on the tour. I would definitely use them again.

As a solo traveler it felt good to have something arranged before my arrival in the Maldives. Everything from the speed boat transfer, the hotel room, the staff, the included meals and the included activities was great! Staying in Maafushi and explore other islands was definitely a great Orion
I can honestly say this trip was exceptional! Brad is an excellent guide and is very attentive to each person. This is a small group tour, only 10 of us and that was definitely a plus. The snorkeling was the best I've had in decades. If there was a day that someone didn't want to snorkel, Brad happily gave options and totally assisted in signing up for other activities. (I snorkeled as much as possible because each day brought so many different sea creatures - up close.) The waters were the most pristine you could imagine and the reefs are healthy and full of life. There was one day that I opted to go to the resort island with most of the group. It was a nice break and we really had a great time together. Brad has put together an incredible itinerary, making the most out of each day. We stayed on two islands, yet speed-boated to so many I lost count. It was an amazing adventure. The boat crew were excellent and never let us out of their site while we snorkeled. The first hotel in Maafushi had all ocean views yet I enjoyed the less touristy island of Fulidhoo. The islanders are friendly and both islands were completely safe. We were gone most of the day on amazing sea adventures - the main reason for this tour. If you enjoy viewing sea life in the cleanest, clearest waters, I highly recommend Beach Life Tours. Brad is not only a competent guide, he's also a great person to spend one of the best weeks you'll ever have in your life!

I did the Maldives Indy Escapes tour and it was perfect!!! Maldives isn't really an easy country to explore as a solo traveller or without spending thousands a day... This is absolutely the way to do it! Highlights: - Maldives is GORGEOUS. The water is even better than it looks on Instagram. (We had perfect weather!) - The itinerary is very well thought out and found it logical and a good mix. This is definitely a tour for water babies! - I did all the optional extras and all were worthwhile. -Hotels were comfortable, clean and basically on the beach - Group dynamics suited me perfectly - average age around 33. 75% female, 60% solos, 65% Australians (rest mainly UK/US), all well travelled and focused on adventure more than partying. -Price: I spent $2100 total in the week (tour, extras, food, all in) which is amazing for the Maldives. - Guide: Lucas is the guide and owner and you can feel the extra passion and care that goes into guiding for your own business. Some considerations: - Weather would have been a major factor. We were lucky to have only perfect days... If not a little hot!(Pack double the amount of sunscreen you think you need) - Maldives is a Muslim country - there is NO alcohol outside of resorts (which is not where we stay) I would absolutely recommend this Maldives tour - it was a perfect week in paradise and everything I hoped for and more. I would absolutely do another tour with Indy Escapes in the future- it's the perfect group travel solution for solo travellers in their 30s.
I’ve recently returned from a trip in the Maldives with Indy Escapes and I wanted to say a particular thank you to the host and guide Lucas Chesterton. I was really scared of open water and I’d booked this trip to try and conquer my fear. He was excellent. He was patient and encouraging and help me conquer my fear. Not only was I happy to jump in the water by the end of the trip but he had me swimming with sharks, mantas, whale sharks and even diving with turtles! I can think him enough. I don’t think I would have had the confidence to do any of that with anyone else! The trip itself was also fantastic. I got to see a side of the Maldives I didn’t know about. We stayed in local islands, hang out with locals, tried delicious food, and stayed in lovely accommodation. I would thoroughly recommend Indy Escapes for anyone wanting to explore the Maldives!

This experience takes the hassle out of planning a trip to the Maldives. You are picked up from the airport and boat transfered to the Island with hotel. Hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. We had great sea view rooms. The included half day with lunch tour is great experience. The included buffet breakfast and dinner also great. Through the hotel you can book more adventures to do with your extra days or you can relax in the hotel pools or private beaches. The choice is yours.
The chosen hotels in this tour except Maldives were very poor in quality. The cottages in the resorts in Dambulla was so bad, the first one they put us in was with lots of mildew and mold. They transferred us to another cottage which was smelling so bad I had to wear a face mask to sleep. I got sick the following day with sinus and lung congestion that made me cough so badly I was feeling awefull for several days. My husband also got sick. Mr C. Silva our guide/driver knows about it. Being on restricted diet, the choices of food that was offered me was very limitted, only 2 kinds of fish- king fish and tuna otherwise I had to pay extra. Over all the tour was mediocre.

1. There was no orientation of any kind when we boarded the Dhoni. There should have been a safety orientation covering information such as the location of life jackets on the Dhoni, walking safely on the boat in rough waters, emergency procedures. 2. The World Expeditions pre-departure information is not accurate. We did not have a guide, just a Captain and crew. 3. We experienced diesel fumes in our cabin on many occasions which is not a healthy environment. Our clothes smelled of diesel exhaust when we left the Dhoni. 4. The Captain and crew were very friendly and helpful. However, conversation was very limited because of their lack of English. 5. According to the itinerary, we were supposed to meet local people on 2 different islands. We did not do this. We also did not have a beach barbecue. 6. We were shocked to see the amount of garbage on the unhabited islands. It took away the pleasure of being on these islands.
The stunningly beautiful Maldives really can be affordable for anyone. A week spent on a traditional Dhoni, snorkeling on 2 reefs each day, sunbathing on the deck, relaxing - pure bliss. The water is turquoise and crystal clear. The sea life is abundant, we saw reef sharks, sea turtles, sea cucumbers and many wonderful colorful species of fish. We visited islands along the way where we got to meet and mingle with the locals. One of the best parts of the trip was that we were so far from the resorts that we had the reefs completely to ourselves. A really amazing trip!

Itinerary idea in detail

Includes international flights from a choice of UK airports, including London, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Today you begin your journey by boarding your international outbound flight to Delhi.

On arrival at Delhi Airport, be greeted by your Audley representative and your driver, who will stay with you for your time in India. Drive to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure. You might like to explore Delhi using a local rickshaw or simply relax at your hotel.

Humayun's Tomb, Delhi

Today get a real feel for Delhi, exploring the old and new areas of the city. Starting off in the Old City, experience the sights, smells and people of Chandni Chowk Bazaar with your private local guide. Driving over to New Delhi, you will see some of the architectural highlights including the iconic India Gate.

India Gate in New Delhi

This morning enjoy a city walk that takes you through the enchanting backstreets of Paharganj, run by the Salaam Baalak Trust, a non-profit organisation. Your guide, who is a former street child, will provide a unique and humbling insight into Delhi life. In the afternoon travel three hours to Agra by road. On arrival you may like to explore the Baby Taj and Red Fort.

Taj Mahal, Agra

Rise early this morning to see the iconic Taj Mahal at sunrise. At this time, the beautiful site is at its quietest, allowing for more of a tranquil experience. Drive onward for about five hours to Jaipur with your driver today, via the abandoned city of Fatehpur Sikri where you can stop to explore. The tales of the Emperor who created the city are fascinating. Easy to explore independently, we don't tend to find a guide is necessary, but if you are particularly interested in the history, we can arrange this for you. Arriving in Jaipur, you have the evening to relax.

Sunrise at the Taj Mahal, Agra

Today enjoy a private guided tour of Amber Fort, the original Maharaja's Palace, which lies 40 minutes outside the city. Drive back into the city to explore the sights of Jaipur itself, which is fondly known as the Pink City, including the City Palace and the Palace of the Winds. It's a busy city best explored in parts on foot.

Amber Fort, Jaipur

This morning is free to relax in Jaipur. You might like to visit some of the local markets which are famous for their textiles and fabric painting. After a leisurely start to the day, travel by road back to Delhi and stay in an airport hotel, a convenient base for your onward flight tomorrow. The drive takes about five hours but your driver can suggest places to stop along the way if you wish.

Qutab Minar, Delhi

An early start as you are taken to the airport for your flight to Malé. On arrival into Malé you are met by a resort representative and transferred by speedboat to Kurumba. Here you can enjoy your time in the Maldives and spend your time at leisure relaxing on the beach.

Today you have the day to simply relax and recover from the busy pace of India, or explore your Maldivian Island. Spend some time in the spa, or relax with a book by the beach or pool.

Another day free to relax. Consider taking a cocktail master class, or cooking lesson in one of the hotel's kitchens.

Your final day in the Maldives. With crystal clear waters and a vibrant array of marine life, it's worth taking some time to snorkel or dive. Guided snorkelling and diving trips are available to book at the resort, or simply wade in right from the beach.

This morning you will be transferred by speedboat back to Malé to catch your onward flight home. Your return flight will arrive the same day.

Maldives Tries to Win Back Indian Tourists As Arrivals Fall 40%

Peden Doma Bhutia , Skift

April 16th, 2024 at 9:11 AM EDT

While Maldives enjoys record-breaking arrivals, its tourism companies aren't about to let the Indian market keep falling. They're on a mission to reverse the trend.

Peden Doma Bhutia

The Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators is determined to increase Indian arrivals to the island destination and is taking steps to achieve this.

“Indian arrivals to the Maldives have gone down by almost 40%,” said Abdulla Ghiyas, the association’s president, in an exclusive interview with Skift.

In early January, #BoycottMaldives started trending in Indian social media following a diplomatic dispute between the two countries. Indians accused Maldivian politicians of making disparaging remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

As a result, India, which was the number 2 source market for Maldives, has now fallen to number 6 . India’s share of visitors had been almost 11% – it has shrunk to 5.6%.

Promotions in Indian Cities

Ghiyas said the association will be hosting roadshows in 3 Indian cities in July and confirmed to Skift that one of the cities would be Bengaluru.

The association also plans to engage with Indian social media influencers. “We also want to see how we can work with the tourism board in Maldives as we have partnered with them in the past as well. There are talks that the tourism board is also planning of doing something in India,” Ghiyas said.

At the July roadshows, he said he’s keen to look at cities that have direct connectivity with Maldives.

Ghiyas expressed a desire to have conducted the roadshow earlier, noting that May is when Indian outbound travel peaks. However, he mentioned plans for another round of roadshows towards the end of the year, aiming to include Tier 2 cities. “Even if they lack direct flights to the Maldives, these cities would represent an important market for us,” he said.

maldives tours from india

Maldives has so far received (from January 1-April 15) 693,867 tourists, up from 606,395 arrivals for the same period last year, as per the latest data from the Maldives tourism ministry.

China is the top source market for the island destination, followed by UK and Russia.

Between January 1-April 15, almost 39,000 Indians visited Maldives, a decline of almost 40%, compared to the 64,250 arrivals for the same period last year.

“We might not talk immediately about the growth scenario, but I would definitely like to see the 40% decline narrow down,” Ghiyas said.

Can’t Ignore India

While Maldives has experienced record-breaking tourism arrivals so far, Ghiyas said it still needs India. “There are properties and resorts that rely heavily on the Indian market, which have been severely affected. This will hurt us in the long term and that is why we have decided to engage with the India market.”

Aminath Suzan, CEO of Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators, pointed to cultural ties, such as similarities in food, language, and pop culture. “We must ensure that unrelated matters do not negatively impact the bond, for which we have dedicated years and built this alliance.”

The association members also recently met with Munu Mahawar, the Indian high commissioner in Maldives, to collaborate closely with his office to boost tourism initiatives.

Dubbing the meeting with Mahawar “positive,” Ghiyas said the high commission has offered assistance to the association. “Once we have a concrete plan, we will definitely follow up with the High Commission and share our plans.”

Sharp drop in number of Indian tourists to Maldives in 2024 after diplomatic row

F ewer Indians travelled to the Maldives in the first three months of this year, data has revealed. The drop in the number of Indian tourists visiting the Indian Ocean nation comes against the backdrop of a diplomatic row between Delhi and Male.

According to tourism statistics from Maldivian authorities, a total of 34,847 Indians visited the Maldives between January to March this year. This was a sharp 38 per cent drop from last year when more than 56,000 tourists visited the Maldives during the same period.

A total of 12,792 Indians (7.1 per cent of the total population) visited the island nation in January 2024, the statistics revealed.

In February, a total of 11,522 Indian tourists visited the Maldives, as compared to a total of 19,497 the same month last year.

In March this year, only 8,322 Indians visited the nation, as compared to a total of 18,099 during the same month in 2023.

The data comes following an 'India Out' campaign by Maldivian president Mohamed Muizzu and the subsequent 'Boycott Maldives' trend that gained popularity on social media in India.

Later, the 'Visit Lakshadweep' trend gained popularity on the internet after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Lakshadweep islands.

The data also shows a steady rise in Indians visiting the island nation in recent years. According to the data, 1 lakh Indians visited the Maldives in 2018. The number increased to 1.6 lakh in 2019.

In 2021, the number of Indian tourists to the Maldives increased to 2.91 lakh, as the country eased its Covid-19 restrictions.

The recent diplomatic row between India and the Maldives erupted after three  deputy ministers of the Maldives posted derogatory comments  against Prime Minister Narendra Modi,  folllowing the latter's visit to Lakshadweep .

President Muizzu suspended the three ministers  over their social media postings that stirred concerns in India and sparked a boycott call on social media.
