Mexico introduced the electronic version of the visa application form called Forma Migratoria Múltiple Electrónica, or FMME in 2016 which can be easily obtained online. Mexican Government announced the Electronic Authorization System which allows the citizens of the eligible countries who want to visit Mexico to obtain a Tourist card for tourism or business-related trips, called Sistema de Autorización Electrónica or SAE . The card is offered for single entry only with a validity of 180 days. The maximum stay limit can exceed up to 180 days once you arrive at Mexico. Travellers who will enter in Mexico by land or sea, do not need to apply for SAE. No transit visa is required if the stay period is not exceeding 24 hours of time.

Tourist Card Requirements:

Whether you require a tourist card by land or air, the requirements will be more or less similar, other than some differences related to supporting documents. To obtain an FMM, foreign visitors will have to complete an application form before travelling to Mexico. After providing the necessary information, paying the visa fees and submitting the required travel documents, the applicant will receive the FMM by email. Once received, it is essential to get a print of the document and show it to the border officials.

What do you need to apply for Online Mexico Tourist Card?

Foreign nationals need to have the following documents/items:

• A passport or any identification document. (standard passport for those applying for a tourist card air, and passport card or passport for those who require a tourist card land.
• Email address where the approved tourist card will be sent.
• A valid debit or credit card to pay the fees.
• An air ticket- A ticket is required if you are travelling by air and applying for a tourist card air. If you are applying for tourist card land, ignore this requirement.

Exceptions:

There are some exceptions to the tourist card requirements. If you belong to a country that does not fall into the list of visa-exempt countries and obtaining a tourist visa to enter Mexico is mandatory, there are certain situations when you don’t need to obtain the tourist card. This will be applicable if you have any of the following documents:

• A valid European Union or Schengen area country visa.
• A Canadian visa.
• A Japanese Visa.
• A USA visa.
• You hold permanent residency in Chile, Canada, Colombia, Japan, any European Union or Schengen area country, Peru, UK, or the USA.

Tourist card land and tourist card air both are issued for up to 180 days. It is a single-entry travel permit, which will allow the cardholder to enter Mexico either via land or air. The card’s validity will start from the time the immigration seal is stamped after the traveller arrives at a Mexican port of entry. The tourist card land and air both can be used just once, as these are valid for a single entry.

Tourist Card (air) Port of Entry:

If arriving in Mexico with a tourist card air, you can enter the country visa some selected airports. The list of approved airports is available on this page. When flying to Los Cabos International Airport, it is mandatory to keep a double-sided print of the tourist card air on a piece of paper.

Who Needs a Mexico Tourist Card?

A Mexico Tourist Card, also known as a Forma Migratoria Múltiple (FMM), is required for all foreign nationals visiting Mexico for tourism, transit, or business purposes, regardless of their nationality. 

The only exception is for travelers who are in possession of a valid Mexican visa or a resident card issued by Mexico. Additionally, travelers who are transiting through Mexico to another country are also exempt from the FMM requirement, provided that they do not leave the airport transit area.

It is important to note that the Mexico Tourist Card is not a visa, and it does not allow the holder to work or engage in any kind of remunerated activity while in Mexico.

Important Guidelines:

• When you arrive in Mexico, you must show the same passport or other travel documents that you used when applying for the tourist card.
• Passport cards can be used when arriving in Mexico through a land border crossing.
• Travellers arriving via air will use a standard booklet-style passport when travelling to Mexico.
• Get your tourist card stamped when passing through immigration. Without stamping, the tourist card will not be considered valid.
• Always write down the FMM number. The information will be useful in case the card gets stolen or lost.
• After you have taken a print out of the approved tourist card, it is necessary to get it stamped within one month or thirty days to make it valid.
• The immigration office will enter the entry date when stamping the tourist card. Your card’s validity will be determined from that day onwards. The card will stay valid for six months or 180 days from the date of your arrival in Mexico.
• If you belong to these Nationals of Australia, Austria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Slovak Republic, and Slovenia can stay up to 90 days
• And other these Nationals of Andorra, Argentina, Bermuda, Chile, Costa Rica, Liechtenstein, New Zealand, Norway, San Marino, Singapore, Switzerland and Uruguay can get the visa for stays of up to 180 days.
• India’s all travelers can stay in Mexico for a full 180 days.  But keep in mind that during this period, payment of this amount is not received. You should not get any paid work. mostly when you have a tourist visa.
• Hong Kong (SAR), Iceland, Israel, Korea Republic and Monaco can stay for 90 days.
• Residents of Venezuela can stay only up to 30 days.
• If you have these nationals or permanent resident status in Canada, Japan, United Kingdom, US, and Any of the countries that make up the Schengen area. There is no need to apply for a visa. and they can stay up to 90 days in Mexico.
• Valid multiple entry visa from the United States of America.

Regardless of which type of tourist card you want to apply for, that is, air or land, there is no difference in the processing time. However, the processing time difference according to the payment package you select. We currently offer three payment packages, including:

The Mexico Tourist Card land or air visa application form is generally the same. There are three sections of the form. In the first section, the application will provide personal information, including full name, date of birth, occupation, parents’ names, city of residence, physical address, email address, and contact number. The next section of the application form is about gathering travel-related data. You will select the type of visa required, purpose of travel, and expected date of travel. Furthermore, you will enter your passport number, its issue date and expiration date. The third part is related to paying tourist card fees. You need to select the desired processing time, and the visa cost will be calculated accordingly. There is no difference between the processing time or fees for tourist card air and tourist card land. After the payment process is complete, you will have to review the information once before clicking on the submit button. The last step is providing scanned images of the required supporting documents.

E-visa or Sticker-visa

Mexico Tourist Card works as an e-visa and sticker visa. That’s because although you receive it online, you will need to get it stamped at the port of entry to validate it. To do this, you will have to obtain a print of the approved tourist card letter issued by the INM and present it at the time of arrival at any port of entry, either land or air. Without the stamp, your tourist card will not be valid.

Can I extend my Mexico Tourist Card validity?

If the tourist card was issued for 180 days, it is not possible to extend its validity any further. If you want to live in Mexico for more than 180 days, you will require a Mexico Temporary Resident Visa. On the other hand, if the INM issues the FMM for less than the maximum validity period, such as 60 days instead of 180 days, then you can extend it to full 180 days. You can apply for a tourist card extension only while staying in Mexico.

What happens if I overstay my Mexico Tourist Card?

If you have overstayed your stay, the immigration office will impose a fine. Immediately visit an immigration office in your area of residence or the immigration centre at the airport to pay the fine. The amount will be calculated after examining the number of additional days you have spent in Mexico after your tourist card expired. Then you will have to obtain an Exit Visa to depart from Mexico.

Holders of the following valid documents are exempted from the requirement of the Mexican visa to travel to Mexico for a period of entry not exceeding 180 days and for non-gainful activities.

The Immigration Authority at the point of entry may request the traveler to present the following documents as proof of the intended period of stay and purpose of entry to Mexico: hotel reservation, flight itinerary (round or onward ticket), tour itinerary (if applicable). Admission of entry to Mexico will be determined exclusively by the Immigration Authority at the point of entry.

• The Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) is NOT considered a valid United States visa for the purpose of traveling to Mexico under the exemption of the Mexican visa.
• Holders of Singapore and Malaysia passports do not require a Mexican visa to travel to Mexico for a period of entry not exceeding 180 days and for non-gainful activities. 
• Nationals of Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, China, India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Taiwan are required to apply for the Mexican visa unless holding a valid visa or permanent residence card from the countries indicated on the list above.

  APPLICATION PROCESS

• Download the application form and fill it in accordingly. ( Formato en español )
• Present along all documents required on the appointment date. The Embassy reserves the right not to process incomplete applications.
• Submission of applications and collection of visas are strictly personal.
• Always present original and photocopies of documents.
• The visa fee must be paid in cash in Singapore Dollars when submitting the application at the Consular Section of the Embassy ( Consular Fees ).
• The Embassy does not issue express visas. Visas are issued in 5 to 10 working days. 

The Consular officer may request further documents when presenting the application. 

The visa will be subject to approval after the consular interview.

  MINORS APPLYING FOR VISA

• Visa applications of minors must be signed by both parents in the presence of the consular officer.
• If one of the parents cannot attend the appointment with the minor, it is mandatory to submit a notarized authorization from the parent who cannot be present, to allow the minor to apply for the visa, and, if approved, to travel to Mexico.
• If someone different from their parents will assist with the minor to the appointment, it is mandatory to submit a notarized authorization from the parents allowing the minor to apply for the visa accompanied by a legal guardianship, and, if approved, to travel to Mexico.

IMMIGRATION INFORMATION

Only if you are granted a Mexican visa, you will be able to travel to Mexico. Nevertheless, the visa document does not guarantee entry to the country.

At the point of entry, Mexican immigration authorities may ask you information and questions pertaining to confirm the reasons you are traveling to Mexico, the length of your stay, and how you are financing your trip.

As in all countries, Mexican immigration authorities will verify the authenticity of all the documents you present, as well as the truthfulness of the information you provide. They will also confirm that no outright restriction exists.

All visitors are required to complete and present the immigration form “Forma Migratoria Múltiple” upon arrival to Mexico.

What is a Sri Lankan Visa?

A Sri Lankan visa is an endorsement on a passport or a similar document to facilitate the legal entry of non Sri Lankans into the country and to regulate the period of their stay and the conditions governing such stay.

What are the Types of Sri Lankan Visas?

There are three (03) kinds of visas which permit a person to enter and/or stay in Sri Lanka.

A Visit Visa is an entry permit signifying the consent of the Sri Lankan Government for the admission of a foreign national to the country.  The Visa contains details of the period of time and the condition/s of the stay.

There are two sub-categories which come under visit visas :-

Tourist Visa

A Tourist Visa is issued to bona-fide tourists who want to enter Sri Lanka for sightseeing or holidaying, visiting friends and relatives, medical treatments, participate in art, music and dance events, participate in sport events for a short period of time.

Business Purpose Visa

A Business Purpose Visa is issued to foreign nationals who visit Sri Lanka for business purposes for short period of time. This visa may be issued for single or multiple journeys.

Residence Visa

A residence visa is a permit for a non-Sri Lankan to obtain residence facilities for special purposes.

• Children up to 21 years of age, whose birth has been registered under section 5(2) of Citizenship Act of 1948.
• Children under 21 years of age and born in Sri Lanka for Sri Lankan parents who are holding a foreign nationality.

Who are eligible for Gratis Visa?

The holder of a Diplomatic or Official Passport or a passport with a valid Diplomatic or Official endorsement. They will not be required to pay any fees for the visa as per the recommendation of the Line Ministry.

What are the general eligibility requirements for Sri Lankan Visas?

Sri Lanka Immigration and Emigration may grant or issue a visa to you if -

• Sri Lanka Immigration & Emigration is satisfied that you are suitable to enter Sri Lanka.

What are the general conditions of a Visit Visa?

• You should not engage in any form of employment, paid or unpaid, or in any trade or business other than that specified in the visa during the period of your stay in Sri Lanka.
• Your visa must be utilized before the date of expiry noted on the visa.
• Validity of your visa is subject to entry into Sri Lanka during the indicated entry period.
• It is a Double entry for the tourist visa and double entry for business visa within 1 st  60 days (This facility will be terminated if you apply for a visa extension)
• Applications for the extension of all visas should be made to the Department of Immigration and Emigration or online through the link here . The extension is single entry and it will be canceled once you leave the country.
• At present, business visa cannot be extended through online

What are the general conditions of a Residence Visa?

• You should not engage in any form of activity other than the condition of your visa
• It is a multiple entry visa

What are the general conditions of a Transit Visa?

If you are staying more than 24 hours to get your connecting flight, you have to apply for a transit visa through the  https://www.srilankaevisa.lk . It is valid only for 48 hours.

Sri Lanka ETA is a kind of approval letter granted by Sri Lanka Immigration System which enables all nationalities are eligible to visit Sri Lanka on short term stay.

What is Official Sri Lanka ETA

Official Sri Lanka Immigration Department announced an Electronic Approval Note ( ETA) for a short term social visit to Republic of Sri Lanka from 1st January 2012 onwards.

A Sri Lanka Approval Note (ETA) is an online Visa permit to enter Sri Lanka for non Sri Lankan nationalities and valid to stay as per visa policy.

Persons plans entry to Sri Lanka which should hold a valid (ETA) Approval Note issued by Sri Lanka Immigration. Tourists/Business can apply online for Sri Lanka ETA which is completely electronic processing online submission and the approval for the same will be communicated via email.

An ETA is an Electronic Approval Note (Visa) for visit to Sri Lanka for a stay of up to 30 days. The Sri Lanka ETA is issued electronically; it is not required to submit original travel document or other documents for processing. Applicant need to complete and submit our online application form and the Sri Lanka ETA can be processed within 24 hours. Most of the Sri Lanka ETA will be processed immediately as per Immigration approval.

It is very important that the information on the request form is accurate and exactly matches the traveller's passport. Name, Date of Birth, Citizenship, Passport Number and Passport dates must be correct.

Extension Policy

A Foreign traveller staying more than 30 days may eligible to apply for an extension of stays.

On first time extends 60 days, second time 90 days and third extend upto 90 days. Overall total 270 days applicant can stay from the date of first arrival.

Sri Lanka may be known as the teardrop isle (due to its distinctive shape), but the country’s refreshingly straightforward visa system shouldn’t be a source of too much anguish for travelers. 

Here’s our guide to navigating the entry requirements for visiting Sri Lanka as a tourist, with information on visa types, costs, and how to apply for one.

Who needs to apply for a visa for Sri Lanka?

With the exception of citizens from Singapore , the Republic of Maldives , and the Republic of Seychelles , all travelers will require a visa to visit Sri Lanka. Fortunately the process for acquiring one is relatively straightforward. 

Applying for an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA)

For trips to Sri Lanka of up to 30 days, visas (also known as ETAs) can be obtained from the government’s Department of Immigration and Emigration website . The application involves completing a simple form and making an online payment, with no need to submit passport copies, documents, or photographs. An application is also available upon arrival.

It costs US$50 for a double-entry, 30-day tourist visa (US$20 for residents of Afghanistan , Bangladesh , Bhutan , India , Nepal , and Pakistan ). Two-day transit visas are free and only necessary if you plan to leave the airport. There is also no charge for tourist visas for children under the age of 12. 

It’s possible to check the status of an ETA online. Once approved, print out a copy of the ETA approval notice to show immigration officials on arrival in Sri Lanka. For an ETA to be valid, you must arrive in Sri Lanka within three months from the date of issue. 

ETAs can also be applied for through travel agents and in person at Sri Lankan embassies or consulates ahead of a trip. Embassies can offer longer visas, such as those granting entry for 90 days. 

In addition to an ETA, visitors to Sri Lanka need to make sure they have a passport valid for at least six months from the date of arrival, a confirmed return ticket and sufficient funds to meet their expenses during the stay.

Can I apply for a tourist visa on arrival in Sri Lanka?

A limited facility runs at Bandaranaike International Airport (Sri Lanka’s main international airport), offering ETAs on arrival. These visas cost more than those obtained before travel (US$60; or US$25 for residents of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, and Pakistan). It’s also worth noting if your visa application is unsuccessful for any reason, you will be returned to your original destination.

How do I extend a tourist visa in Sri Lanka?

You can renew a 30-day tourist visa up to three times once in Sri Lanka. The initial extension is usually granted for 60 days, and the maximum length of a tourist visa is 270 days. Visitors wishing to apply for an extension should make sure they do so before their current visa expires and must ensure their passport is valid for at least two months after their intended stay. 

Applications can be submitted via the online visa extension portal . The fee depends on your nationality and length of stay. Contact the Department of Immigration and Emigration in Colombo should you need further advice on extending your stay.

Sri Lanka launched an e-visa system, streamlining the visa application process for travellers. The initiative offers updated requirements, fees, and validity periods, enhancing efficiency and convenience for various nationalities visiting for tourism, business, or transit.

• If the applicant has stayed in another country for more than 6 months, a Police clearance from that country and a copy of the Visa.
• Certificate from a Sri Lankan guarantor & a photocopy of the guarantor's NIC.
• Affidavit from a Sri Lankan JP (Justice of Peace) or a Lawyer.
• Accommodation information (Place of stay).
• Visit the official website of Sri Lanka eVisa.
