BankTravel to produce seminars for Missouri Travel Council’s Bank Travel Exchange
SALEM, Ohio — The Missouri Travel Council and BankTravel have jointly announced the development of an educational component for bank travel club directors attending Missouri Bank Travel Exchange.
The Missouri Travel Council, which operates the Bank Travel Exchange, is that state’s leading group tourism organization.
“BankTravel looks forward to working with the Missouri Travel Council in developing and delivering education that will help bank clubs grow and prosper,” said Charlie Presley of BankTravel. “The Missouri Travel Council has a reputation for being ahead of the curve in the generation of marketing efforts that expand the Missouri tourism industry.”
Presley was a guest at this year’s Missouri Bank Travel Exchange and walked away impressed with the quality of the event and the value that it brings to delegates.
“The value of group travel is in building relationships that result in a solid business core. Missouri has done just that between its travel industry and bank clubs,” said Presley.
Greg Maxon of the St. Charles Convention and Visitors Bureau serves as the organization’s president, Renee Eichelberger of Explore St. Louis is the incoming bank exchange chair, and Pat Amick is the council’s executive director.
The idea to join forces to better serve all involved came from the Missouri Travel Council and is managed by Donna Cordle-Gray of Legacy Dimensions.
Cordle-Gray said the purpose of the venture will be to expand Missouri Bank Travel Exchange into the arena of education to help its bank delegates run more successful travel clubs.
“We see this relationship as a stepping stone to the next level in securing the future of Missouri group tourism,” said Cordle-Gray.
BankTravel will develop the education content for Missouri, and the two organizations will jointly promote each other at their respective meetings.
“This is the way of the future, organizations working together to better tourism for all,” said Presley. Missouri Bank Travel Exchange will be held in Kansas City on April 4-6, while BankTravel Conference will be in Baton Rouge, La., Feb. 6-8.
Bank club directors or members of the travel industry interested in these events may contact Cordle-Gray at 816-444-0991 or [email protected] or Presley at 800-628-0993 or [email protected] .

Springfield Scores 2024 Missouri Sports Travel Exchange
The Missouri Travel Alliance has selected Springfield to host the 2024 Missouri Sports Travel Exchange.
The two-day reverse trade show and marketplace set for March 4-6 at University Plaza Hotel & Convention Center pairs regional and national sports event organizers with destinations and venues that can host them in Missouri. The event includes networking, educational sessions, and one-on-one business exchanges that will bring sports events to life in Missouri.
Cori Day, Executive Director of the Missouri Travel Alliance, said Springfield’s energetic sports scene made the city an obvious choice for 2024.
“The Missouri Travel Alliance is delighted to bring the 2024 Missouri Sports Travel Exchange to Springfield,” Day said. “With its outstanding sports facilities, dynamic downtown atmosphere, and excellent accommodations, we are confident that attendees will have a memorable experience. We're eager to showcase all that Springfield has to offer."
The decision to bring the event to Springfield followed a successful bid effort led by the Springfield Sports Commission and the Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Lance Kettering, Executive Director of the Springfield Sports Commission, expressed excitement for the event and what it means for Springfield.
"This presents a fantastic opportunity for the Sports Commission and CVB to showcase the city to sports event planners,” Kettering said. “We're honored to host this event and are eager to welcome our peers from other Missouri destinations."
Mark Hecquet, President/CEO of the Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau, also shared his excitement.
“We’re looking forward to showcasing the city’s outstanding sports facilities to multiple sporting event planners,” Hecquet said. “That’s an important first step in getting planners to select Springfield for their events."

4-h interstate exchange.
The 4-H Interstate Exchange Program has a long history of providing youth and adults with opportunities to travel, host and learn about 4-H across the United States, while providing positive cultural experiences.
The Interstate Exchange program includes planning, participating, fundraising and hosting an Interstate Exchange over two consecutive summers. In Missouri, traveling happens in even years and hosting in odd years. We encourage volunteers, youth and staff to consider adding this unique program to their county 4-H program of activities. The Interstate Exchange program is sure to build confidence, friendships and skills that will last a lifetime.
Program goals
An Interstate Exchange will allow youth to become valued, contributing members of their community in partnership with caring adults.
From the experience, Missouri 4-H delegates will:
- Learn more about themselves, their family, county and state.
- Improve their intercultural competence by developing relationships that help them to appreciate differences.
- Develop as individuals by interacting with people who may have practices, beliefs and customs different from their own.
- Create new and lasting friendships
- Discover their sparks.
- Develop a sense of belonging with other youth.
- Develop relationships with caring adults.
Program objectives
From the experience, Missouri 4-H delegates will gain leadership, citizenship and life skills.
- Identify similarities and differences between their county and that of the host, as well as respective 4-H experiences.
- Plan and conduct fundraising projects to cover the expenses of the exchange.
- Demonstrate appropriate behavior (manners, attitude, hygiene, etc.) as part of the host family and/or while being hosted by another family.
- Develop as leaders as they plan, lead and evaluate the program.
- Participate in the planning of all Interstate Exchange activities.
Getting started
Each county handles its own Interstate Exchange programming. Contact your local MU Extension office for more information.
