The secondary registration form must be completed in order to be considered by observing schools.

National Summer Intensive Audition Tour (NSIA)

Robert fulton - nov. 29, 2023, 1:21 a.m..

For aspiring dancers looking to elevate their ballet training and career prospects, the National Summer Intensive Audition Tour (NSIA) is an unparalleled opportunity. NSIA brings a unique platform for young dancers to audition for multiple prestigious summer intensives through a single audition, opening doors to an array of ballet auditions, training, and potentially, ballet jobs.

How NSIA Works

NSIA's innovative approach simplifies the audition process. Dancers can choose from various cities on the audition schedule and register with the host school in their preferred location. The auditions are conducted in-person, with other schools in the collective observing via Zoom or on-site. This ensures a comprehensive assessment and broadens exposure for each participant.

Each audition will be recorded, allowing the observing schools to review performances as needed. Dancers have the option to specify which schools they wish to audition for, but all schools in the collective have the opportunity to reach out to any student who auditions. Pre-registration and payment of the registration fee to the host school are mandatory.

Contingency Plans

In case of unforeseen cancellations, such as extreme weather, registered students can submit an audition video. This option is exclusive to students affected by such cancellations and will not be available to others.

Dress Code for Auditions

Participants should wear colored leotards with a mid to high back, aligning with the elegance and formality of ballet auditions.

Audition Schedule and Locations

The NSIA tour includes several cities, offering widespread opportunities for dancers across the nation:

  • Atlanta, GA: Atlanta Ballet, Michael C. Carlos Dance Centre - Sunday, January 7, 2024
  • Cincinnati, OH: Cincinnati Ballet, Margaret and Michael Valentine Center for Dance - Saturday, January 13, 2024

  • Louisville, KY: Louisville Ballet - Sunday, February 11, 2024

  • Nashville, TN: Nashville Ballet - Sunday, January 14, 2024
  • Oklahoma City, OK: Oklahoma City Ballet, The Yvonne Chouteau School - Sunday, January 7, 2024

A Step Towards Your Ballet Future

The NSIA offers more than just ballet auditions; it’s a gateway to a summer of intensive ballet training, networking, and growth. It's an opportunity to be seen by multiple prestigious schools, save on audition travel costs, and experience a variety of teaching styles and ballet methodologies. With limited spots and non-refundable fees, early registration is recommended.

Canada’s National Ballet School announces 2023-24 audition tour dates

Professional Ballet-Academic Program students training at Canada's National Ballet School. Photo by Bruce Zinger.

Canada’s National Ballet School (NBS) is gearing up for its annual national audition tour, meeting Canada’s talented and passionate young dancers. The 2023/2024 tour will visit six major city hubs and includes online auditions to open the door for aspiring dancers to audition from across Canada and the globe.

“Dancing opens doors to an exciting world of limitless possibilities, and our Professional Ballet Program supports young dancers in unlocking their potential and pursuing their dreams,” said Mavis Staines, NBS’ Artistic Director and CEO. “We look forward to experiencing the passion and magic of the next generation of artists through this year’s in-person and online auditions.”

NBS’s Professional Ballet Program offers Olympic-calibre dance training, academic instruction and on-site residence accommodations — all on the same campus located in Toronto — for students in grades 6 to 12, and post-secondary students. The program helps students develop as well-rounded artists and prepare for limitless future pathways. NBS Alumni succeed in a diverse range of career paths including dancers, dance teachers, choreographers, artistic directors, leaders in the arts, social changemakers, doctors, academics, psychologists, filmmakers, lawyers and so much more.

“Under NBS’s guidance, we have witnessed our son’s talent flourish and his skills soar to new heights,” said a parent to a NBS Professional Ballet Program student. “The opportunities he has been given to learn from esteemed instructors and collaborate with fellow dancers have been invaluable. The positive and inclusive environment NBS has cultivated has enabled our son to explore his artistic expression freely, allowing him to discover his own unique style and voice as a dancer.”

Home to iconic ballet dancers like Siphe November, Jessica Xuan and Ryan Tomash, and graduates who are part of over 80 ballet and dance companies across the globe, NBS is at the forefront of dance training internationally.

Canada’s NBS believes that dance education should be accessible to all members of the community and works to remove barriers so that talent and passion are the sole criterion for entry to the Professional Ballet Program.

Professional Ballet-Academic Program auditions are open to students entering Grades 6 to 12 in September 2024. Prior dance training is not essential for children under 12 years of age.

Post-secondary Company Life Program auditions are open to students who have completed high school in a rigorous full-time dance program and wish to prepare for professional careers.

The audition process takes place in two stages:

Stage One: Audition in-person or online. Students who have successfully auditioned will be invited to join stage two of the audition process.

Stage Two : Attend Summer School. Students who have successfully auditioned will be invited to join the full-time Professional Ballet Program for the 2024/25 school year.

From the more than 1,000 young dancers who audition each year, about 175 are chosen to participate in the second-stage assessment.

Canada’s NBS’s annual auditions are offered in-person and online, welcoming students from across Canada and worldwide. During their audition, all dancers will experience a class with a live musician and NBS’ renowned teachers. In-person and online auditions will be weighted equally.

In-person auditions:

October 19-20: Calgary October 21-22: Vancouver October 21-22: Halifax October 23: St. John’s November 11-12: Quebec City January 13-14: Toronto February 10-11: Toronto

Online auditions:

November to February

For the first time Rosatom Fuel Division supplied fresh nuclear fuel to the world’s only floating nuclear cogeneration plant in the Arctic

The fuel was supplied to the northernmost town of Russia along the Northern Sea Route.

national ballet audition tour 2023

The first in the history of the power plant refueling, that is, the replacement of spent nuclear fuel with fresh one, is planned to begin before 2024. The manufacturer of nuclear fuel for all Russian nuclear icebreakers, as well as the Akademik Lomonosov FNPP, is Machinery Manufacturing Plant, Joint-Stock Company (MSZ JSC), a company of Rosatom Fuel Company TVEL that is based in Elektrostal, Moscow Region.

The FNPP includes two KLT-40S reactors of the icebreaking type. Unlike convenient ground-based large reactors (that require partial replacement of fuel rods once every 12-18 months), in the case of these reactors, the refueling takes place once every few years and includes unloading of the entire reactor core and loading of fresh fuel into the reactor.

The cores of KLT-40 reactors of the Akademik Lomonosov floating power unit have a number of advantages compared to the reference ones: a cassette core was used for the first time in the history of the unit, which made it possible to increase the fuel energy resource to 3-3.5 years between refuelings, and also reduce the fuel component of the electricity cost by one and a half times. The FNPP operating experience formed the basis for the designs of reactors for nuclear icebreakers of the newest series 22220. Three such icebreakers have been launched by now.

For the first time the power units of the Akademik Lomonosov floating nuclear power plant were connected to the grid in December 2019, and put into commercial operation in May 2020. The supply of nuclear fuel from Elektrostal to Pevek and its loading into the second reactor is planned for 2024. The total power of the Akademik Lomonosov FNPP, supplied to the coastal grid of Pevek without thermal energy consumption on shore, is about 76 MW, being about 44 MW in the maximum thermal power supply mode. The FNPP generated 194 million kWh according to the results of 2023. The population of Pevek is just a little more than 4 thousand, while the FNPP has a potential for supplying electricity to a city with a population of up to 100 thousand people. After the FNPP commissioning two goals were achieved. These include first of all the replacement of the retiring capacities of the Bilibino NPP, which has been operating since 1974, as well as the Chaunskaya TPP, which has already been operating for more than 70 years. Secondly, energy is supplied to the main mining companies in western Chukotka in the Chaun-Bilibino energy hub a large ore and metal cluster, including gold mining companies and projects related to the development of the Baimsk ore zone. In September 2023, a 110 kilovolt power transmission line with a length of 490 kilometers was put into operation, connecting the towns of Pevek and Bilibino. The line increased the reliability of energy supply from the FNPP to both Bilibino consumers and mining companies, the largest of which is the Baimsky GOK. The comprehensive development of the Russian Arctic is a national strategic priority. To increase the NSR traffic is of paramount importance for accomplishment of the tasks set in the field of cargo shipping. This logistics corridor is being developed due regular freight voyages, construction of new nuclear-powered icebreakers and modernization of the relevant infrastructure. Rosatom companies are actively involved in this work. Rosatom Fuel Company TVEL (Rosatom Fuel Division) includes companies fabricating nuclear fuel, converting and enriching uranium, manufacturing gas centrifuges, conducting researches and producing designs. As the only nuclear fuel supplier to Russian NPPs, TVEL supplies fuel for a total of 75 power reactors in 15 countries, for research reactors in nine countries, as well as for propulsion reactors of the Russian nuclear fleet. Every sixth power reactor in the world runs on TVEL fuel. Rosatom Fuel Division is the world’s largest producer of enriched uranium and the leader on the global stable isotope market. The Fuel Division is actively developing new businesses in chemistry, metallurgy, energy storage technologies, 3D printing, digital products, and decommissioning of nuclear facilities. TVEL also includes Rosatom integrators for additive technologies and electricity storage systems. Rosenergoatom, Joint-Stock Company is part of Rosatom Electric Power Division and one of the largest companies in the industry acting as an operator of nuclear power plants. It includes, as its branches, 11 operating NPPs, including the FNPP, the Scientific and Technical Center for Emergency Operations at NPPs, Design and Engineering as well as Technological companies. In total, 37 power units with a total installed capacity of over 29.5 GW are in operation at 11 nuclear power plants in Russia. Machinery Manufacturing Plant, Joint-Stock Company (MSZ JSC, Elektrostal) is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of fuel for nuclear power plants. The company produces fuel assemblies for VVER-440, VVER-1000, RBMK-1000, BN-600,800, VK-50, EGP-6; powders and fuel pellets intended for supply to foreign customers. It also produces nuclear fuel for research reactors. The plant belongs to the TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom.

Touring the Top 10 Moscow Metro Stations

By Claudia Looi 2 Comments

Komsomolskaya metro station

Komsomolskaya metro station looks like a museum. It has vaulted ceilings and baroque decor.

Hidden underground, in the heart of Moscow, are historical and architectural treasures of Russia. These are Soviet-era creations – the metro stations of Moscow.

Our guide Maria introduced these elaborate metro stations as “the palaces for the people.” Built between 1937 and 1955, each station holds its own history and stories. Stalin had the idea of building beautiful underground spaces that the masses could enjoy. They would look like museums, art centers, concert halls, palaces and churches. Each would have a different theme. None would be alike.

The two-hour private tour was with a former Intourist tour guide named Maria. Maria lived in Moscow all her life and through the communist era of 60s to 90s. She has been a tour guide for more than 30 years. Being in her 60s, she moved rather quickly for her age. We traveled and crammed with Maria and other Muscovites on the metro to visit 10 different metro stations.

To Maria, every street, metro and building told a story. I couldn’t keep up with her stories. I don’t remember most of what she said because I was just thrilled being in Moscow.   Added to that, she spilled out so many Russian words and names, which to one who can’t read Cyrillic, sounded so foreign and could be easily forgotten.

The metro tour was the first part of our all day tour of Moscow with Maria. Here are the stations we visited:

1. Komsomolskaya Metro Station  is the most beautiful of them all. Painted yellow and decorated with chandeliers, gold leaves and semi precious stones, the station looks like a stately museum. And possibly decorated like a palace. I saw Komsomolskaya first, before the rest of the stations upon arrival in Moscow by train from St. Petersburg.

2. Revolution Square Metro Station (Ploshchad Revolyutsii) has marble arches and 72 bronze sculptures designed by Alexey Dushkin. The marble arches are flanked by the bronze sculptures. If you look closely you will see passersby touching the bronze dog's nose. Legend has it that good luck comes to those who touch the dog's nose.

7. Kurskaya Metro Station was one of the first few to be built in Moscow in 1938. It has ceiling panels and artwork showing Soviet leadership, Soviet lifestyle and political power. It has a dome with patriotic slogans decorated with red stars representing the Soviet's World War II Hall of Fame. Kurskaya Metro Station is a must-visit station in Moscow.
