About Post Malone

A 8x diamond-certified GRAMMY® Award-nominated phenomenon, Dallas, TX artist Post Malone regularly rewrites history, blurs boundaries, and incites internet-breaking conversation with every move. Emerging in 2015 with a genre-less brew that inspired a movement, he delivered the diamond-selling “Congratulations” [feat. Quavo], achieved back-to-back #1 debuts on the  Billboard  Top 200, received countless multi-Platinum certifications around the world, and smashed one record after another with his Hot 100-topping hits. In 2022, he pushed boundaries again with his fourth full-length offering,  Twelve Carat Toothache , which marked his fourth consecutive Top 5 bow on the Top 200. It also paved the way for his biggest headliner to date,  The Twelve Carat Toothache  Tour, taking over arenas for multiple dates in major cities throughout the year. He even scored  “the highest-certified single in RIAA history”  with the 17x-platinum “Sunflower ( Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse )” [feat. Swae Lee], netting the biggest single of his generation. In 2023, he garnered a GRAMMY® Award nod in the category of  “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance”  for “I Like You (A Happier Song)” [with Doja Cat], marking his tenth career nomination in six years.

Three years prior, his 2019 third full-length,  Hollywood’s Bleeding  [Republic Records], represented an audience and critical high watermark. Not only did it arrive at platinum status and eventually go triple-platinum, but it also reigned at #1 on the  Billboard  Top 200 for four weeks and returned to the chart for a fifth week, making for the longest run atop the chart of 2019 and the first release to do so in over a year. The quadruple-platinum lead single “Circles” seized #1 on the  Billboard  Hot 100 for three weeks. It notably occupied a spot on the chart for a record 39 weeks in total. Speaking of making history, he performed a massively popular Nirvana tribute concert on YouTube, raising over $10,000,000 for the World Health Organization in the fight against COVID-19.  Hollywood’s Bleeding  followed the immense success of the triple-Platinum  beerbongs & Bentleys , which also landed at #1 a year prior. In the wake of  beerbongs & bentleys , Post crushed a record in place for 54 years. He charted nine songs in the Top 20 of the Hot 100, notching  “the most songs in the Top 20 of the Hot 100 ever . ”  Moreover, he also trounced the record for most simultaneous Top 40 Hot 100 hits with 14.

As of 2023, his catalog comprises the GRAMMY®  Award-nominated “rockstar” [feat. 21 Savage” (Diamond), “Sunflower ( Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse )” [feat. Swae Lee] (Diamond), “I Fall Apart” (5x-platinum), “Psycho” [feat. Ty Dolla $ign] (5x-platinum), “White Iverson” (5x-platinum), “Better Now” (4x-platinum), and more. Not to mention, he sold out numerous arena tours and hosted and curated his own mega-popular  Posty Fest  in 2018 and 2019. It all started with his quintuple-platinum influential 2016 debut,  Stoney . With records under his belt that will likely never be surpassed and a generation of artists and audiences worldwide under his spell, Post Malone simply doesn’t stop.

Post Malone Falls Apart, Runs in Circles, Plays Biggest Hits for NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert

By Larisha Paul

Larisha Paul

For his NPR Tiny Desk concert debut, Post Malone traced through the journey that led him to his recently released fifth studio album, Austin . Backed by a full band, an orchestra, and four backing vocalists, the musician strummed his guitar through a four-song set list that included “Sunflower,” “I Fall Apart,” “Circles,” and “Enough Is Enough.”

Posty has at least a handful of other songs that have also passed the one billion mark on streaming services — like the 21 Savage-assisted “Rockstar,” or “White Iverson” from his 2016 debut, Stoney . Then there’s also “Psycho,” “Better Now,” and “Goodbyes,” but his selections for Tiny Desk are reflective of his more recent forays into full-fledged pop and alternative rock.

He prefaced that he’s been on tour recently, supporting Austin , so his voice is “balls right now,” which added a raspy quality that actually helped the performance rather than detracted from it.

In a recent interview with Apple Music 1, Post explained that he’s been wanting to actually sit with his accomplishments lately, stating: “I just want to take some time now, and you mentioned all the accouterment of success and everything that comes with that — now I just want to take a second and enjoy it.”

Post Malone: Tiny Desk Concert

The Tiny Desk has hosted plenty of major pop, rock and hip-hop stars in its 15-plus years, but you'd be hard-pressed to find one more agreeable or self-effacing than Austin Richard Post. Whether lamenting the state of his singing voice, joking about his nerves or sitting slack-jawed in awe of the fantastic band his people had assembled for this show, Post had the bearing of a lottery winner who wouldn't even give himself credit for buying a ticket.

Before, during and after the show, Post Malone was a joy to have around. But he also just happened to bring a few of the biggest pop hits of the 21st century: Set-opener "Sunflower," for example, has been certified eighteen-times platinum by the RIAA since its release in 2018 — that's an all-time record — while the 2017 single "I Fall Apart" and 2019's "Circles" lag behind at a mere ten-times platinum apiece. "Enough Is Enough," which closes this set, enjoys no such designation, but give it time: A track from Post Malone's new album Austin , it's only been out for a few weeks.

So enjoy this set for what it is: one of the world's biggest stars, performing a few of the world's biggest songs, each set to a luminous arrangement. Post Malone himself seems surprised by how great this Tiny Desk concert sounds, and that's not just the humility talking.

Post Malone and Morgan Wallen

After debuting their joint single at Stagecoach festival on Sunday (April 28), Post Malone and Morgan Wallen have announced that their duet “I Had Some Help” will officially be released on May 10.

The two performed the song during Wallen’s headlining set at the event, previewing the drinking-buddies anthem for the evening crowd. Malone had already teased a 17-second clip of the track prior to the set, and footage of their music video shoot in Joshua Tree leaked via fan accounts. Those in attendance were able to witness the debut in real time, though viewers at home were unable to watch the livestream as Wallen decided against broadcasting the set.

Wallen, meanwhile, is currently on a string of tour dates, including three consecutive shows at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium starting tonight. He’s coming off of an arrest in early April after he threw a chair from the rooftop of a bar in that city. Earlier this morning, he waived the right to appear in court on Friday to face charges including three counts of reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon and one count of disorderly conduct.

The Magic of Post Malone

The genre-bending music superstar has more ten-million-selling singles than anyone else. And everybody in America seems to love the guy. How the hell did he pull that off?

There are more than eight billion people on planet earth, and very few of them can remain relatable while they’re telling you about the time the diamond fell out of their mouth. Not just relatable, likable. Your heart breaks when you hear how he hungrily bit into a Chicken McNugget that night in Rome, and how he just knew he’d lost that $600,000 fang. It hardly matters that the story has already been spoiled. The two massive, real-ass jewels are right there on his canines where they belong; a happy ending is a sure thing. But still: “I had the left one in my hand, and I dropped it right into the sink hole,” he says. (Under normal circumstances, you’d correct him and say, “Drain,” but you don’t, because the guy is on a roll.) “I’m like, ‘ Fuck, man, I’m going to have to go into the ancient Roman sewers.’ ” You find yourself rooting for this guy to locate the twelve-carat gem that a team of dentists and jewelers shaped and polished and drilled into his teeth. You applaud his ingenuity when he tells you about how he rigged up a scooping device with a pair of pliers and a plastic takeout-pizza tripod; you relax a little when he retrieves it; you feel his victory when a Roman dentista gets it re-embedded. He did it!

e

It’s all going to work out for Post Malone. Good for him. Let’s get the man another beer.

esquire the 90th edition

Everything has been going Malone’s way for some time now. Since the February night in 2015 when the then-nineteen-year-old uploaded a demo called “White Iverson” to his SoundCloud—from an inflatable twin mattress on the floor of a closet in a friend’s furniture-free house in Encino . . . or was it Tarzana?—he’s dropped three multiplatinum studio albums, one greatest-hits compilation, and his latest release, Austin (out this past July). He’s been nominated for the Album of the Year Grammy Award twice and Record of the Year three times. He currently holds the record for the most diamond-certified ten-million-selling singles with eight, cruising past Bruno Mars’s six earlier this year, and that’s before the dust has settled on any of the singles from Austin. In an era when superstars are from the era before—Drake, Harry, Taylor, and Beyoncé were already well established by the time he hit that upload button in Encino or Tarzana—Post Malone is one of the few new faces to have saturated the culture. Everyone knows who he is. You mention Post Malone and people say, “Oh, I love him.” And they mean it.

Then you ask the follow-up question: What’s his whole thing? And they stop for a second. Sometimes they’ll get out a “He’s. . .” before they stop again. If you get a swing at an answer, it will be studded with “kind ofs”: “He’s a rapper, kind of,” or “I guess it’s kind of pop music,” or “He just kind of seems like a really nice guy?”

post malone

It is easy to determine Bruno Mars’s whole thing: Bruno Mars’s deal is to be a hit machine with more ten-million-selling singles than anyone else. But he doesn’t have those bragging rights; Posty does. Malone, now twenty-eight, has caught on in a huge way—the numbers and the nominations and the “Oh,I love hims” don’t lie. He’s a major star, and he has been for years now.

So what is his magic formula? What does Post Malone do ?

Austin Post—Post Malone is a stage name he got from an Internet rap-name generator he used while creating that SoundCloud account—is near the end of the U. S. leg of his “If Y’all Weren’t Here, I’d Be Crying” world tour. We’re in Mountain View, California, at Shoreline Amphitheatre, a stone’s throw from the Google campus. For the past few weeks, he’s been crossing the country playing open-air venues. “This is my first . . . well, maybe not my first but I guess the most recent amphitheater run that I’ve done,” Malone says backstage, in a silk-pajama combo, a Camel Crush burning in his fingers, “and the longest, I feel like.”

post malone

The preshow party is starting to come together. There’s a greenroom marked “Bible Study,” stocked with booze and some Frito-Lay Fun Times Mix variety packs; there’s a tasteful joint-rolling station on a nearby table; there’s a cooler stocked with Malone’s beverage of choice, Bud Light. I’ve been here for not quite an hour before we sit down for a proper talk, and the can he’s just popped open is the fourth one I’ve seen in his hand. Malone’s dad is on the tour for a couple weeks. Rich Post is fifty-seven, a salt-and-pepper beard down to his clavicle, polite and stoic and obviously bursting with pride. “I can’t, in my wildest dreams, understand how this must be for him,” he says. Rich has encouraged his son’s musical pursuits from the beginning, having raised him on a steady diet of classic rock. “He’s been my biggest fan forever,” says Malone, “even when I was doing shitty Metallica covers, just singing in my room with my earphones full blast and he could just hear me yelling.” And now here he is at another amphitheater full of fans. “Austin calls them Postmates, and that’s pretty good, but I call them Post-Malonials.” Rich smiles, satisfied with himself. “It hasn’t caught on, but I love that one.” Rich Post is a good hang.

There’s one more stop after Shoreline and then Malone has a week off to spend on his property in Utah with his girlfriend, whom he will not name, and their daughter, whom they absolutely, positively will not name. The baby was born in May 2022. The first thing Rich said as they looked at her, through the window into the nursery, was this: “I told him, ‘Now you can tell dad jokes.’ You know what you are if you tell dad jokes before you have a kid? You’re a faux pa. ”

post malone esquire 90th anniversary cover

When talking to or about Post Malone, you find yourself saying things you have never said. So here are five very common words that I am putting in this specific order for the very first time: He owns a sword forge. A couple years ago, Malone bought some industrial space in Utah and turned it into a working sword and knife factory, because it’s his hobby, and this is a fact that is very specific and illuminating without at all answering the question of what his whole thing is. I ask whether it’s true that he has a sword forge, and he answers the question in the one way you absolutely want that question to be answered, which is: “Well, fuck yeah.” Other responsibilities are taking him away from it at the moment, but it’s there. “I got this beautiful one-and-a-half-ton anvil to forge on, and we’re getting the power hammer and all that stuff.” When I interrupt him with the very professional question “The what now ?” he explains: “It’s like a hydraulic thing. You press on the pedal and it smashes metal down, so it’s good for flattening out raw steel and shit like that. Then you take it to the anvil.” Malone lights up when he talks about this stuff, like an energetic twelve-year-old with a new favorite toy and somewhere between five and eight Bud Lights in him. “There’s nothing better than a cold beer, some good music, and just a hot-ass piece of metal and you’re fucking whaling on it.”

e

When you are talking to Post Malone, you also think things you’ve never thought. For example: We have got to get this poor guy off his amphitheater tour and back to his power hammer. “It’s like the most manly thing you could do. I’m taking something thousands of degrees, banging on it with a hammer, and making it something to stab with. It’d only get cooler if you could do it on horseback.” And then he’s up for another Bud Light. Nine? One surprising thing you notice about Malone when you talk to him one-on-one is that he’s actually very handsome. His blue eyes are expressive and friendly, and after a moment you see past the famous face tats and the grill and a traditionally attractive face emerges. Following his recent sixty-pound weight loss—he swears it’s from cutting out soda—there may even be cheekbones. He refers to himself as a “big, ugly kid” a few times in our conversation, and whether he believes that assessment or not, he exudes an air of self-deprecation.

He gets preshow jitters, even now. “Oh, I am absolutely nervous,” he tells me. “Before every song, I’m nervous. I don’t really quite remember the words until one second before I have to say them, you know? There’s so many words in these songs and I’m like, Fuck, I don’t remember the second verse. And then I’ll hear one cue in the music and I’ll be like, All right, I know the words. ” He says he usually catches his stride by the second or third song. “You feel the crowd, and you just focus on the song, and you remove yourself physically and just do all the fucking high kicks, kicking high and fucking running around and jumping and shit. Then after the show, you feel it. My knees are so fucked.” He seems to be moving around just fine, and also he’s twenty-eight years old, so I ask, “Really?” And he says, “Yes, sir.”

You will also experience a new kind of cognitive dissonance when you talk to Post Malone, because it is legitimately strange to hear so many “sirs” and “ma’ams” and “pleases” and “thank yous” come out of a face with that many tattoos on it.

It’s a very specific kind of crowd at this preshow party. It's not VIPs from the tech world, or sexily dressed young women, or local celebrities (although Ray-Ray McCloud, wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers, does show up with an entourage). Like the music itself, it’s not noticeably rock or hip-hop or country. It’s dude-heavy, and more than once when I am introduced to one of these dudes, a different dude will lean into my ear and whisper, “That dude is special ops.” It’s a lot of dudes who like guns, as Malone does. These dudes shoot guns, build guns, sell gun equipment, design shooting ranges. These dudes don’t often run into pop stars, particularly pop stars who are into what they’re into. They revel in his company, slap him on the back, and get very close to his face when they say things like “I will build you a rig, man,” and then they slip away into the Bible Study room to pour some more Tito’s into their Solo cups. I try a little experiment: In conversation with Rich, I raise my voice a little bit and work the word CrossFit into a sentence, just to see how many heads visibly perk up. Three.

Malone is affable. Into it, for sure. “I love running around in the desert with night vision and stuff, and these guys make a bunch of cool shit for that.” He asks whether I’ve looked at the stars with a night-vision headset. I have not. “If you’re just with your boys, and you’re like, ‘Let’s have a couple beers, let’s do a couple mushrooms,’ and you put the night vision on, and then you just fucking look up, you’re like, ‘Oh my God. It’s amazing. Next level.’ ” He smiles. “The goal is to be a kid, man. As long as you can.” On that note—and I can say this now because the tour is over and it’s been moved to a safer place—the very rare Magic: The Gathering card that he just bought for $2 million is on the tour bus while we’re speaking. Malone had publicly expressed interest in buying the card. “I put a bounty on it,” he says. The original owner reached out, came to a show, hung backstage, “and he was like, ‘Hey, if you want it, it’s yours.’ And now it’s in a secret hidey-hole on the tour bus. I don’t trust it anywhere else. I need it super close.”

I ask what’s left for him to do, hobby-wise, now that seven-figure-game-card acquiring and night-vision tripping and sword-forge owning are checked off the list. “I’m looking at some land,” he says, “and I want to build the craziest bunker farm, just a beautiful ranch where I can get the baby a pony and run around and raise some cattle and some alfalfa, because the end is nigh.”

It is the most upbeat “the end is nigh” I have ever heard, and I ask if he believes it. “I do,” he says. “I don’t know exactly how long, but you can definitely feel a tension in the world, and it’s not getting any less crazy. The air is so thick; there’s so much angst and malice toward so many different things.” He’s right, and one of the objects of that angst and malice at this precise moment in American history is the brand of beer that’s in his hand. For months now, Bud Light has been the target of boycotts and talk-radio rants, all for having paid for one sponsored Instagram post with a transgender woman. I ask Malone what his take on the whole thing is. “There is no comfort in this world,” he says, “so I’m gonna do the small things that make me comfortable. I’m gonna drink the fucking beer.”

He’s popped open another. He gets up to do one more lap around the backstage area, and then, right at 8:00, he excuses himself, walks through a door behind a scrim, and closes it behind him. An hour of solitude before showtime.

Next year, Post Malone will do a set at Stagecoach, the weekend-long country-music festival on the polo grounds of Coachella. His music already has the boozy, confessional quality of country music, so it isn’t a complete stretch. But this will be his first proper set within the genre. The seed was planted a couple years ago, when Malone closed out Matthew McConaughey’s “We’re Texas” fundraiser, and “I had the idea to do a set of country covers, a lot of nineties and 2000s stuff.” His appearance with Dwight Yoakam’s backing band from that night is on YouTube, and it’s remarkable. What really stands out is how well he balances the two sides of the genre; he goes from Brad Paisley’s 2001 hit “I’m Gonna Miss Her” (Brad’s li’l lady made him choose ’tween her and fishin’, see) right into “You Can Have the Crown,” from Sturgill Simpson’s debut. The corny and the credible, the mainstream and the progressive. Does a Stagecoach set signal a new direction? Shit, maybe. “Everybody comes up to me like, ‘When are you doing a country album? ’ ” he says. “And this is a nice little step into that world.”

Which brings us back to the fundamental question of exactly what world he’s in now, a question I’m no closer to answering after a nearly two-hour show. What I can say for sure is that he puts it all out there. The show has moments that are acoustic and vulnerable, moments that are trap-beats-y and boastful, moments when the string section really gets to let loose. He wails and he dances, and he hits that tremolo and plays that guitar and acts a fool onstage just like a rock star. He says “fucking” so much that it may not actually be a swear word anymore. He says, “Please buy a T-shirt so I can send my kid to college,” and you forget for a second that in between the brain and the microphone, those words passed by $1.2 million worth of elective dental- diamond work. “Thank you so very fuckin’ much,” he says, a million times before the final time, and then it’s over and he’s backstage for the after-party. I hang out for a little bit, but there are twice as many people as there were before, the special-ops guys have had a couple more hours’ worth of Tito’s, a middle-aged Russian guy in hot-pink sneakers has hit the joint-rolling station and is staring through me, and Malone has a room to work. When the guy I’m talking to tells me, “I’m actually kind of a controversial figure in the world of CrossFit,” I take it as the exit cue that it is.

We catch up again over Zoom a week or so later, after the tour has ended and he’s had a week to reconnect with his girlfriend and their daughter. Now he’s in the early stages of a South American tour. A few hours before we meet, he texts me a photo of himself, smiling big. Left canine and its attached twelve-carat jewel: gone. “On bread this time” is the message, with the crying-laughing-guy emoji. “Yeah, we went to a beautiful steakhouse down here, and I felt a click, and I thought, That feels weird. And then the next bite I took, I said, ‘It’s gone.’ ” He has it, though—another daring, last-minute rescue before it went down the hatch—and it will be popped back in tomorrow. “With some space glue,” he tells me. And then I’m telling him he’s got to be careful with that Chilean bread, and he admits, “I was kind of going buck wild on it,” and I find myself thinking very normal thoughts, like You have to be careful when you get your teeth replaced with jewels.

I’m finding it impossible to describe the Post Malone formula, so finally I just have to ask, “Austin, what do you do?” His answer is quick: “I’m a professional Auto-Tune manipulator.” But then he gets serious. “I don’t know. I write songs and I sing them the best I can, and I just am myself, and I just want to go and rock ’n’ roll.” It’s possible that the urge to try to classify Malone or his music is itself fundamentally out of date. We’re currently in a post-genre musical universe. The recording industry used to organize artists into easily identifiable categories in order to market them and sell the pieces of plastic with the music on them. And we as individuals would, in turn, gravitate toward a category and define ourselves by it: I’m a heavy-metal guy, I’m a country gal, I’m a poptimist. Now everything is at everyone’s fingertips, and we can do what humans are meant to do, which is listen to whatever speaks to us. “You used to get trapped in one thing and you’re like, ‘Oh, well, this is all I listen to,’ ” Malone says. “And that’s what I think has made my career so interesting, just being able to fucking take what I like and mix it in a way that is authentic to me.”

post malone

Malone isn’t overthinking it. “I’m just Austin, and that’s like the coolest job to me. A long time ago, that wasn’t a cool job and I wanted to be someone else,” he admits. Someone like A$AP Rocky or Mac Miller. “And then one day, I was just like, ‘You know what? I’m going to try and do something different and just kind of put my own spin on shit.’ I'm happy now, and I’m so grateful, and I’m just doing the best I can.”

If you wanted to be uncharitable, you’d say what Malone does is scoop the tastiest bits off four different dishes and serve them up as a whole new recipe. But why wouldn’t he? Malone was born in 1995, on the actual goddamn Fourth of July. That means he wasn’t even eight when the iTunes Music Store opened, and every song he could think of was one frictionless, ninety- nine-cent click away. He turned sixteen in July 2011, when Spotify launched in the United States and he didn’t have to pay by the song anymore. By the time he was out of high school, SoundCloud was turning bedroom hip-hop artists like Lil Peep and XXXTentacion into mainstream pop stars. So if Malone’s music is a little bit country and a little bit hip-hop and—I swear, there are moments on Austin that sound like this—a little bit eighties adult contemporary, if he can collaborate with Bad Bunny and Lorde and Noah Kahan, well, that’s what you should expect from a twenty-eight-year-old.

That’s what pop music is now. That’s what the future sounds like.

Post Malone announced his intention to move from hip-hop and pop to country some time ago—a shift that some have questioned. The chart-topper has only released a few tunes in the genre, but already he’s racking up hits in the field—including a new one this week.

“I’m Gonna Miss Her” debuts at No. 45 on this week’s Hot Country Songs chart. While that’s fairly low on the 50-spot tally, Malone actually claims the only new entrant on the ranking of the most-consumed country tracks in America this time around.

Malone earns his third career appearance on the Hot Country Songs chart this week. His latest does mark his lowest-charting so far, but these are still early days for the singer-songwriter when it comes to this new sonic chapter.

In 2023, Malone reached the Hot Country Songs chart for the first time as a featured artist. He joined the late Joe Diffie on a reworked take on the beloved musician’s “Pickup Man,” which spent one frame at No. 34.

Malone scored a big hit on the most competitive ranking of the biggest country tracks in the country just a month ago. He joined Beyoncé on her tune “Levi’s Jeans,” which was featured on her first country album, Cowboy Carter . The track peaked at No. 5 and has spent a month on the roster.

“I’m Gonna Miss Her” is a cover of Brad Paisley’s single of the same name. His version, which is titled “I'm Gonna Miss Her (The Fishing Song),” is one of that star’s 18 No. 1s on the Hot Country Songs tally. It peaked atop the ranking back in July of 2002.

Malone’s first proper country single as a lead artist is expected to arrive this Friday (May 10). “I Had Some Help” is a collaboration between the fledgling country musician and genre ruler Morgan Wallen. It may serve as the first taste of Malone’s forthcoming first country album, though so far, details about the in-process project are scarce.

As he arrives on the Hot Country Songs chart, Malone also claims the No. 1 single in America. He joined Taylor Swift on her latest smash “Fortnight,” which debuted atop the Hot 100 last frame. The tune holds in first place for a second stint this time around.

Remember When Post Malone Joined Dwight Yoakam For A “Thousand Miles From Nowhere” Duet?

post malone tour band

The countdown is on as Post Malone is set to officially release his first original “country” song in about 9 hours or so, and while I’m not expecting the second coming of Tyler Childers in the Posty gone country era, I’ve been waiting to hear this for a long time.

Titled “I Had Some Help,” the song is a duet with this guy named Morgan Wallen (maybe you’ve heard of him), and based on what we’ve already heard from the various teasers and full live performance debut at Stagecoach… it’s a certified banger. Guaranteed to be the song of the summer in the mainstream country music world. I’ll be the first one to say that it’s not my usual style, but it’s catchy as all hell. I’m getting slight “Shut Up And Dance With Me” vibes… another certified banger.

And of course, country is the cool kid right now, with everyone wanting to get in on the fun (and the dollars). We saw Beyonce drop her “country album”  Cowboy Carter,  even though she explicitly said it WASN’T a country album. Lana Del Rey, on the other hand, explicitly said she wanted to make a country album because it is popular right now. Ed Sheeran might have something in the works as well…

But Post has been talking about this for a long time, and back in 2015 (back before the face tats), even said some of his dream collaborations would be King George Strait and now, the late great Toby Keith. And if we flash back a few years, Post Malone and Dwight Yoakam gave you the duet you didn’t know you needed.

During the summer of 2018, Post Malone swung by Dwight Yoakam’s SiriusXM show, Dwight Yoakam & The Bakersfield Beat , and… your new favorite duo was born.

In all seriousness, this is just some guys bein’ dudes. Not just any dudes, but these two seem like two of the coolest dudes you could ever meet, so when they busted out the guitars, a little magic happened.

Malone and Yoakam sang Dwight’s classic, “A Thousand Miles From Nowhere.”

Post Malone Teams Up With Dwight Yoakam’s Band

But it didn’t stop there…

A couple years back, Matthew McConaughey’s “We’re Texas” virtual benefit concert raised $7.7 million for winter storm relief in Texas, and featured a ton of stellar performances from George Strait, Miranda Lambert, Parker McCollum, Randy Rogers, Willie Nelson and more.

The show was capped off with an absolute knockout performance from Post Malone, who just so happed to be in the studio with Dwight Yoakam’s band. And with one of the nastiest curveballs I’ve ever seen in my entire life, Post and company started in on a performance of Brad Paisley’s 2002 hit, “I’m Gonna Miss Her.”

And it was AWESOME.

I mean, I knew Post Malone could do country music, I just didn’t know how much I would love it.

Never knew how bad I needed to hear Post Malone sing Brad Paisley's "I'm Gonna Miss Her" with Dwight Yoakam's band. #WereTexas — Whiskey Riff (@WhiskeyRiff) March 22, 2021

But that wasn’t all…

During the ending credits, Post was back, this time with a boot stomping, jaw dropping cover of Sturgill Simpson’s “You Can Have The Crown.” Yes, you heard that correctly… Post Malone, with Dwight Yoakam’s band, covering an all-time great Sturgill Simpson classic. And he CRUSHED it.

I mean, I just can’t stop watching this damn video…

POST MALONE'S COUNTRY ALBUM

Expected release date: 2024, expected tracklist:.

  • ‘ I Had Some Help ’ (featuring Morgan Wallen)
  • ‘ I Ain't Got A Guy For That ’ (featuring Luke Combs)
  • ‘Missin’ You Like This’
  • ‘ Horsepower ’
  • ‘ Left Me In Your Mind ’

Well, it looks like all those vision-board collages we created of Post Malone wearing cowboy hats have finally paid off. It's official - Posty is hard at work on his debut country album. With Posty having now shared a handful of snippets of unreleased music - including blockbuster collaborations with Morgan Wallen and Luke Combs - it seems the project's release date is inching closer and closer.

Although there's yet to be any label announcement, the man himself confirmed during a Twitch live stream last year that his “country record is coming” , before sharing he recorded a song for the project when he was in Nashville that he can't stop singing. He also revealed that he's currently working on two albums, with one presumably being the country project, and the other possibly being a more mainstream release.

This followed Posty's post-CMA Awards performance interview , where he responded to the question of whether it was time to record a country album with “I think so. Yes, ma'am”.

It seems the ‘Chemical’ hitmaker already has a number of songs in the can, with Post Malone being photographed during a recording session with two of Music City's primary songsmiths, Morgan Wallen and Ernest , before being snapped alongside two more members of Nashville's songwriting royalty, Luke Combs and James McNair .

Excitingly, Post Malone shared a teaser of his first ever original country song in February, which appears to be titled ‘ I Ain't Got A Guy For That ’, featuring Luke Combs. The infectious, uptempo track seems to be the result of the session with Combs and McNair.

Then, on March 13, Post Malone returned to his socials to upload another country song clip, ‘Missin’ You Like This’, which features the New York native's signature ethereal vocals floating across a sparse, brooding guitar and drum instrumental.

Later that month, Posty shared a new snippet of his Morgan Wallen duet, ‘I Had Some Help’, which Morgan had previously teased and then deleted shortly before Christmas. Although the sense of anticipation is at a fever-pitch ahead of any new music from Post Malone, ‘I Had Some Help’ is definitely the one fans have been clamouring for the most out of all the snippets and demos he's been uploading.

There was a bizarre rumour that the infectious, uptempo track was going to arrive on April 5th, but - to fans’ disappointment - that day came and went without any new music from Posty. Given how viral ‘I Had Some Help’ has now become, it seems likely either this or ‘I Ain't Got A Guy For That’ will be the lead single for the album.

During a Holler interview in February, Ashley Cooke revealed that Post Malone is working with “a lot” of people at her label , so we may be able to expect some Big Loud up-and-comers such as Jake Worthington and Lauren Watkins to appear on the record.

With Post Malone having spoken with Joe Rogan earlier in the year about his deep-seated love for traditional-leaning, alt-country artists such as Colter Wall, Sturgill Simpson and Tyler Childers, we'd be surprised if this style didn't colour some of Posty's record.

In the same interview , the multi-Diamond-certified artist recalled how he'd tried to work with Colter in the past, only to find that the famously reclusive cowboy wasn't prepared to leave his ranch to do so. Now, though, we're hoping Post Malone makes the trip to Saskatchewan for a session, because Posty's distinctive vibrato and Colter's husky, weather-worn vocals would undoubtedly sound incredible together.

Furthermore, Jelly Roll has repeatedly expressed his admiration for Post Malone's sonic blueprint, with the duo linking up backstage during the CMA Awards 2023, as well as during the Reportin’ For Duty tribute to Leslie Jordan in February.

With Jelly having previously underlined his eagerness to hit the studio with Posty , we think the ‘ Need A Favor ’ maverick is another name we can expect to appear on the album's tracklist.

As our imagination begins to run wild with guestlist wish-lists and predictions, we're wondering whether - given Post Malone guested on Beyoncé's record-breaking 2024 COWBOY CARTER project - perhaps she'll return the favour by appearing on his project.

In addition to Colter wall's outlaw aesthetic and the Hip-Hop-minded country fusion that Morgan Wallen, Ernest and Jelly Roll have pioneered, as we attempt to pin down what kind of record we can expect from Post Malone's debut country effort, we imagine there'll also be a notable retro-country influence on the project.

This was seemingly confirmed when, in April 2024, Parker McCollum wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that he'd been told Post Malone is recording his stripped-back, unreleased fan-favourite, ‘Left Me In Your Mind’ . We'd be keen for Posty to invite Parker to link up with him in the studio for a duet version of the traditional country ballad.

Posty has shared stellar covers of classics such as Hank Williams’ ‘Honky Tonk Blues’ , Toby Keith's ‘Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue’ , Brad Paisley's ‘I'm Gonna Miss Her’ and Sturgill Simpson's ‘You Can Have The Crown‘. His first ‘official’ foray into the genre was his reimagined HIXTAPE duet with the late Joe Diffie, ‘ Pick-Up Man ’.

Post Malone's electrifying performance of ‘Pick-Up Man’ with HARDY and Morgan Wallen during the 2023 CMA Awards was one of the stand-out moments of the evening, with the single since earning Posty his first Billboard Country Airplay hit .

However, given how HARDY and Morgan Wallen do not feature on the studio version of ‘Pick-Up Man’, and bearing in mind how big a fan HARDY is of Post Malone , it seems a little odd that he hasn't taken this opportunity to duet with the chart titan on a song.

This makes us think HARDY will most likely be joining Morgan Wallen, Luke Combs and Ernest on the list of collaborators for Post Malone's upcoming country album.

Post Malone is set to perform a set of classic country covers at Stagecoach 2024 on April 27 , a move he explained in a recent Esquire interview , “Everybody comes up to me like, ‘When are you doing a country album?’ And this is a nice little step into that world”.

With Posty now having made far more than “a little step” into country music, we think he may be eyeing this festival set as his deadline for his project, with the performance serving as the perfect opportunity to showcase a few original tunes alongside the covers.

Whenever Post Malone decides to drop his long-awaited debut country album, and whoever ends up on the list of featured artists, we're just happy this moment has at last arrived.

If Posty's rendition of ‘Pick-Up Man’ is anything to go by, his first full-length country project will be a truly game-changing moment for the genre - and we can't wait to hear it.

Seth Rogen sparks up the laughter with Bill Burr, Snoop, Post Malone and more at the Hollywood Bowl

A mere half-hour late start boded well for the highest-profile comedy, music, and marijuana-themed variety-benefit show of Netflix Is a Joke. May 1’s Bowl kickoff with Jerry Seinfeld, Jim Gaffigan, Nate Bargatze, and Sebastian Maniscalco, for example, had tasked a jazz combo with killing 45 minutes before any stand-ups took center stage.

One week later, sporting a shiny black tuxedo and devilish grin, host Seth Rogen emerged with a oversized match to spark the three-story prop bong commissioned for the festival. As plume of smoke covered the stage, the white-tailed Hollywood Chamber Orchestra blasted “2001: A Space Odyssey” theme “Thus Spoke Zarathustra,” and opening rapper Lil Dicky challenged Roseanne Barr for the most strained “Star-Spangled Banner” rendition of all time before launching into “Freaky Friday.”

Man lighting a giant bong on stage

“Even I think this is a little much! Weed’s legal; what am I trying to prove?” Rogen asked back onstage. His thoughts on the Drake-Kendrick Lamar beef — “You don’t hear defensive rapping that often. You don’t hear rap that’s like, ‘I “am” a good father! I “should not” be a registered sex offender!’” — were echoed by “Abbott Elementary” cast member Janelle James. “Men are happy right now,” she observed. “Sports and a rap battle happening at the same time? I caught my boyfriend skipping the other day! Men don’t get to be happy. They’re sitting around dissecting poetry, how lovely!”

From the beginning, the “almost” sold-out audience of 18,000 took happy advantage of the open-air event. A cool evening breeze grew increasingly fragrant and thick under the spotlights and trippy, rotating pastels.

Woman on stage holding a mic and doing stand up

Good vibes continued with “Daily Show” correspondent Ronny Chieng , who tailored his set specifically for the occasion. “It’s great to perform in legendary American venues like this where Dave Chappelle almost got murdered!” he enthused. “America is a country that puts show business above everything. This is how much we love show business in America: You guys remember 10 years ago when Seth Rogen made a movie about Kim Jung Un that almost destroyed the world? ‘The Interview’ almost caused global thermonuclear war! We kinda forgot about that, didn’t we? It was our generation’s Cuban Missile Crisis!”

Man on stage in red shirt holding a microphone

Not much was being remembered at the moment, to be honest. Chieng helpfully revisited the production in minute-to-minute detail for most of his time, noting, “We almost destroyed the world for 59% on Rotten Tomatoes!” Also, “In Malaysia there’s a death penalty for smoking weed… everyone here would all be executed!”

Man in baseball hat and jacket on stage with microphone

Peabody Award and Golden Globe winner Ramy Youssef followed, the non-smoker cautioning, “I don’t think anyone here understands how much weed is being smoked backstage. I know you saw some of it out here, and this was nothing!”

An extended story about adopting a rescue dog had included references to autism and Harry Potter when Youssef suddenly realized “I’ve been up here too long! My time perception is distinctly… I’m high, I’m not gonna be rude, I’ve gotta go!” Which he very promptly and hilariously did.

“I don’t know if you know you are at a charity event right now,” Rogen checked in, offering thanks for the Netflix event and those aiding his Hilarity for Charity foundation combating Alzheimer’s. “Of all the shows at the Hollywood Bowl, this is the only one where the money goes to charity. Jerry Seinfeld kept the money, just know that, to buy one-sixteenth of a f— Porsche!”

Immediately after, a surprise eight-song set from Post Malone (“Better Now,” “Psycho,” “Chemical”) got the crowd on its feet, who agreed that yep, it felt hella good to be stretching around, plus standing up was totally better for watching the colorful lasers and bursting pyrotechnics anyway. Ooooh, fire!

Bald man in shirt and jeans on stage with hands in the air

Surprise comedy guest Bill Burr followed “Congratulations” with a few minutes up top about Hollywood pedophiles and decrying cancel culture. Right around the time he mentioned punching a baby, the scene shifted to the women’s restroom: clean, minimal foot traffic, the floor painted a mossy, foresty green that looked way more soft and spongy than concrete has any right to look. Don’t bother trying to touch it. And wash your hands. Back and safely seated, Burr was continuing, “You’d better have a Black guy in the trunk, or you, sir, are in trouble!”

Snoop rapping on stage behind giant bong

Nearing the unconventional benefit’s end, Rogen announced a hot tip: The Hollywood Chamber Orchestra’s trumpet player wasn’t merely one of the best trumpet players alive, but the guy responsible for the “Jeopardy” theme song! The Bowl grooved its ass off to both the classic jam and a new, “sexy smooth jazz version” before losing its collective mind for final act Snoop Dogg, his “The Next Episode”’s refrain to “Smoke weed everyday!” and the call and response of “Nothin’ But a G Thang.” Plus how does it get any better than “Gin and Juice” for charity?

Lighting up a joint, Snoop took a spin directizzing the orchestrizzle and giving props to the musicians, “Give it up for my band!”

L.A. becoming home to the largest comedy festival in America reminds fans how lucky it feels to exist amid the most important, innovative, genre-busting live performers of our time. Amazing musical moments like the conclusion of Seth Rogen Smokes the Bowl with Snoop rapping hip-hop classics “Jump Around,” “Drop it Like It’s Hot,” “Who Am I (What’s My Name?),” an orchestral “Zarathustra” reprise and a shower of celebratory fireworks remind us how far we’re capable of going... and growing.

'Tortured Poets' Has Arrived at the Eras Tour: Everything to Know About Taylor Swift's Latest Album

T aylor Swift's Tortured Poets era is here, and it's safe to say that fans are being well fed. Swift's newest album The Tortured Poets Department dropped on April 19 -- and then 2 hours later, she dropped another one, The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology. The double album shocker gave fans 31 new songs, including the four bonus tracks that were previously exclusive to the CD variant editions. To wrap up release day, Swift also dropped the music video for the album's lead single, Fortnight featuring Post Malone.

Swift described  Tortured Poets on her Instagram as a reflection of "a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time -- one that was both sensational and sorrowful in equal measure." Within its first day of release, Tortured Poets was already breaking records: It was the most streamed album in a single day in 2024,  Billboard reports .

Read more : Apple Music vs. Spotify: How to Decide

Swift announced The Tortured Poets Department in February, after winning her 14th Grammy award. Since then, she's unveiled four variants of The Tortured Poets Department, during the most recent leg of The Eras Tour . To put the cherry on top, she's added a Tortured Poets Era to her Eras Tour for the remaining 70 shows.

Here's everything you need to know about listening to The Tortured Poets Department. We'll keep updating this story with any of the last-minute announcements and surprises Swift undoubtedly has in store. For more, here's how to stream The Eras Tour concert film and here's our list of the  best music streaming services of 2024 .

Did Taylor add a Tortured Poets era to the Eras Tour?

Speculation of an added TTPD era began after Swift posted a YouTube Short that featured clips of the singer rehearsing for her European leg of her Eras Tour. There were some clips of fan favorite moments, but eagle-eyed fans spotted new choreography, microphones, set pieces, guitars and more.

While Swift has been mum on the subject, fan speculation was confirmed when Swift hit the stage Thursday in Paris. Swift's TTPD Era featured songs But Daddy I Love Him, So High School, Who's Afraid Of Little Old Me, Down Bad, Fortnight, The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived and I Can Do It With A Broken Heart. Swift also updated the set list and said goodbye to fan favorite songs like Long Live, The Archer and more.

How to stream Taylor Swift's new album, The Tortured Poets Department

You can stream The Tortured Poets Department on your streaming service of choice. Both Spotify and Apple Music subscribers are currently able to stream The Tortured Poets Department, as well as users of YouTube Music, Amazon Music, Pandora and Tidal.

That includes The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology, which contains all 31 new songs. You can see all the options at Swift's link tree here .

Tracks and collaborators on The Tortured Poets Department

The Tortured Poets Department has 16 brand-new songs and four variant-specific bonus tracks. Post Malone and Florence & The Machine both appear on the album, and Swift teamed up with long-time friend Jack Antonoff and recent collaborator Aaron Dessner on her latest record.

This record has several solo writing credits for Swift. My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys and Who's Afraid of Little Old Me were both penned solely by the superstar. With the release of TTPD: The Anthology, Swift adds The Black Dog, imgonnagetyouback, Peter and The Manuscript to her solo songwriting credits.

The standard tracklist for the album is as follows:

1 . Fortnight (featuring Post Malone)

2 . The Tortured Poets Department

3 . My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys

4 . Down Bad

5 . So Long, London

6 . But Daddy I Love Him

7 . Fresh Out the Slammer

8 . Florida!!! (featuring Florence & The Machine)

9 . Guilty as Sin?

10 . Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?

11 . I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)

13 . I Can Do It with a Broken Heart

14 . The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived

15 . The Alchemy

16 . Clara Bow

17 . The Black Dog

18 . imgonnagetyouback

19 . The Albatross

20 . Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus

21 . How Did It End?

22 . So High School

23 . I Hate It Here

24 . thanK you aIMee

25 . I Look in People's Windows

26 . The Prophecy

27 . Cassandra

29 . The Bolter

31 . The Manuscript

The first 16 songs were expected as part of the release of The Tortured Poets, but at 2 a.m. on April 19, Swift surprised fans with a double album release. Songs 17 through 31 make up the second half of The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology.

How to find The Tortured Poets Department on CD and vinyl

There are four confirmed variant editions of TTPD, named after the bonus track each will include: The Bolter , The Albatross , The Black Dog and The Manuscript . While the variants are available for sale on Swift's website, fans can also find them at Target. These do not include the extra 15 songs included in TTPD: The Anthology.

The majority of the variant editions are available as CDs, including The Bolter, The Albatross and The Black Dog. The fourth variant edition, named after the bonus song The Manuscript , is available as a CD and on vinyl in phantom clear or ghost white colors only at Target. Swift also held preorders for vinyl bundles of the other variant editions (The Bolter, The Albatross and The Black Dog) that included a deluxe CD and cassette, but those were only available until April 12.

In every social media post that Taylor Swift has made, she includes the same preorder link , which includes other retailers besides her website and Target, like Barnes & Noble. At Target, you can buy each CD individually for $14, and The Manuscript vinyl is $46. There is not currently a place where you can find all four of the bonus songs on the same CD, which is why completists and collectors ought to be prepared to drop some cash .

How do I stream bonus songs and The Tortured Poets Anthology?

Good news: As part of the 2 a.m. double album release, the four confirmed bonus songs are included in TTPD: The Anthology. So now you don't need to buy each of the four variant editions on CD and vinyl to listen to The Bolter, The Albatross, The Black Dog and The Manuscript. TTPD: The Anthology is available wherever you stream music.

The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology has yet to see a physical release, though there is a digital download available for $15 on Swift's website. So fans and collectors will still need to buy the variant physical copies of the album if you want to hear the four bonus tracks. We'll update this story if Swift releases a physical version of TTPD: The Anthology. You may hear clips of the album on TikTok as Swift recently agreed to allow some of her songs back on the app.

This isn't how Swift has previously handled bonus song releases. With her last original album Midnights in 2022, she dropped songs in stages: the original album, a 3 a.m. release with seven more songs, then haphazardly released singles on CD and vinyl. There are three versions of the album on streaming, but there still isn't one central album -- on streaming, CD or vinyl -- where you can listen to all of the songs from the Midnights era. So it's safe to say that Swift took the shorter route this tiime.

Are these Morgan Wallen’s best songs? Fans share what they hoped to hear at his concert

Morgan Wallen concert Hershey

Morgan Wallen's One Night At A Time tour came to Hersheypark Stadium on May 9. The performance was initially scheduled for May 2023, but was postponed due to medical issues which required Wallen to go on vocal rest. Sean Adams

Morgan Wallen’s fans in Hershey had been waiting for some time to see the country star perform.

Many of them had tickets for when his show was initially scheduled for the Hersheypark Stadium, nearly a year ago. But that performance was postponed due to Wallen’s health and vocal issues at the time.

Jack Howell of Bloomsburg initially purchased tickets for the concert for his girlfriend as a 2022 Christmas present.

“It would be nice if [the rain] stopped, but I think we’ll persevere,” he said.

Chris Howell, Jacks’ father, joked that “secretly, he’s hoping they’ll cancel, so that [his girlfriend] will stick with him another six months.”

Jack picked “Chasing You” as the song he was most excited to hear at the show.

“It’s a great song,” he said.

Jack’s sister Alexis was hoping that Wallen would play “I Had Some Help,” his new song with Post Malone. While it won’t technically be released until May 10 , Wallen has played the song at a few live shows, and it made an early debut on some radio stations today.

Caitlin Boland of Malvern had trouble choosing a single song that she was most excited for. But when pressed, she said she hoped to hear both “More Than My Hometown” and “Whiskey Glasses.”

“‘Whiskey Glasses’ is the song that put me on [to Wallen’s music], the year it came out,” Boland said. “And ‘More Than My Hometown’ reminds me of 2020, that was a fun summer.”

Grace Mohan of Morgantown was hoping to hear “Cover Me Up.”

“I feel like it’s an underrated song,” she said. “It’s not as popular. I’m excited to hear that.”

She added that one of Wallen’s newer songs, “Lies Lies Lies,” was also near the top of her list.

PennLive requested to cover Wallen’s concert, but the tour did not grant access for coverage of the show.

Taylor Swift debuts ‘Tortured Poets’ songs live as Eras Tour resumes

Swift made some significant changes to the 3-hour-and-15-minute set when she kicked off the European leg of her record-shattering tour Thursday after a two-month break.

post malone tour band

Taylor Swift’s record-shattering Eras Tour has essentially been a well-oiled, steady machine since it launched in March 2023 — she switched up a few songs on occasion, but mostly stuck to the same set list during the 3-hour-and-15-minute spectacle. And Swift’s loyal fan base has spent hours studying footage from around the world, with millions tuning in on fan-hosted live-streams to memorize every detail.

But on Thursday, Swift made some significant changes to the show for the first time as the tour kicked off its European leg at Paris La Défense Arena in Nanterre, France, for the first of four sold-out concerts. As many predicted, she debuted live performances of her songs from her 11th studio record, “The Tortured Poets Department,” a double album that contains 31 tracks and sold the equivalent of 2.61 million albums in its first week (combining physical sales and streams) when it dropped in mid-April .

“You are so present and it means the world to us as performers when you show up to a concert and when you act this way. … It makes us want to show you all kinds of fun surprises,” Swift, 34, told the extremely enthusiastic audience early in the night, calling the Eras Tour “the best experience of my life, honestly.”

The concert was live-streamed by fans on TikTok. One viewed by The Post featured a news ticker running at the bottom of the video with updates about the show: new outfits, new video screen visuals, a new order for some of the songs. Swift, who divides her set list into “eras” from her 18-year career, kicked off the “Tortured Poets” era about two hours into the concert with “But Daddy I Love Him” — a track that many interpret to be a message to her fan base about their, ah, extreme interest in her love life and the men she dates.

The Style section

“I’ll tell you something about my good name, it’s mine alone to disgrace,” Swift sang, running back and forth across the stage throughout. “… God save the most judgmental creeps who say they want what’s best for me, sanctimoniously performing soliloquies I’ll never see.” At the end, she sat down with her dancers and added a verse from “So High School” with lines that include “You know how to ball; I know Aristotle” — thought to be a reference to her boyfriend , the very famous football player Travis Kelce. (Swift did not sit for any interviews about the album and has provided very little detail for the ideas behind the lyrics.)

Even if they were being scolded, the fans loved it. The ecstatic screaming and cheering continued in the audience as Swift continued through “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?,” which appears to detail the downsides of fame, along with breakup anthems “Down Bad” and “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived,” along with her new single with Post Malone, “Fortnight.” Swift added all kinds of new dance routines and set pieces, including one that made it look as if she were levitating across the stage.

And she performed a brief play before “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” an upbeat track about how she was able to perform on the Eras Tour even through heartbreak. Two magicians dragged her lifeless body to another part of the stage where they “forced” her to change into another sparkly outfit as she rolled her eyes and reluctantly got ready to dance.

“So you were the first crowd ever to see ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ chapter of the Eras Tour!” Swift said cheerfully during the next set where she played a couple of surprise acoustic songs. “Or as I like to call it, ‘Female Rage: The Musical.’”

Otherwise, many chapters of the show stayed the same. Though some wondered whether Swift would simply extend the concert to four hours, she cut six songs overall and condensed the “Folklore” and “Evermore” eras into one, explaining that she considers them “sister albums” because she recorded them during the same year early in the pandemic.

“I’ve always thought ‘Folklore’ to me represents spring and summer and ‘Evermore’ represents fall and winter. So on the Eras Tour, we have now reunited the sisters and combined them into one chapter,” she said. She wrapped up the concert with “Karma” a little after 11 p.m. Paris time after running through 45 songs, and thanked her dancers and band for learning all the new material.

The European leg of the Eras Tour will run through mid-August, and the tour will resume in the United States and Canada in the fall.

Taylor Swift  is back on stage and kicking off the  18-city European leg of her Eras Tour by performing songs from her latest album,  The Tortured Poets Department ,  live for the first time.

The 34-year-old  returned to the stage on Thursday after a two-month hiatus to welcome her fans at La Défense Arena in Paris. According to social media users who posted from the concert, the first show of the European leg featured a new 45-song setlist that changed the order of certain eras -- including combining the Evermore  and Folklore eras -- and a bevy of changes to the singer's costumes, montages, and more.

Eras Tour Opening Act

While  Sabrina Carpenter  served as the opening act for the first round of international tour dates for  The Eras Tour , the European leg kicked off with  Paramore serving as the opening act. The GRAMMY winners are joining Swift on her European leg for 51 shows. The rock band previously opened the show for two nights in Glendale, Arizona, in 2023.

Their Thursday setlist included "This Is Why," "Hard Times," "That's What You Get," "The Only Exception," "Caught in the Middle" and "Brick by Boring Brick."

Eras Tour Intro Montage

Swift added  TTPD lyrics to the Eras Tour opening montage.

Eras Tour Introduction Monologue

Before she began playing the song "Lover" in the  Lover  set, Swift told her audience that the night would span 18 years of music. Previously, she said that the concert covered 16 years.

Eras Tour  Lover Set Updates

Swift cut "The Archer" from her Lover  set. The  Lover  house graphic also featured a new addition in the attic for The Tortured Poets Department .

Eras Tour Folklore and Evermore Set Updates

Swift combined the setlists for  Folklore and Evermore 's eras.

"On the Eras Tour we have now reunited the sisters, combined them into one chapter," she said. "You can call it Folklore , Evermore or you can call it the Sister Albums! You can call it whatever you want as long as you promise to sing 'Champagne Problems' with me."

The new setlist cut four tracks from the formerly individual eras, including "'Tis the Damn Season," "Tolerate It," "The 1," and "The Last Great American Dynasty."

Eras Tour  Speak Now  Set Updates

Swift cut "Long Live" from the  Speak Now  era setlist. She also updated the set with an intro dance featuring Raphael Thomas and eight other dancers before she sang "Enchanted."

Eras Tour  Red  Set Updates

Instead of performing her  Red  setlist as the fifth era, Swift bumped the  Red  era to third place on the setlist.

Eras Tour Paris Secret Set

Swift kicked off the secret set with "Paris," a bonus song from her Midnights  album. She also performed "loml."

Eras Tour The Tortured Poets Department Set

Swift officially launched the The Tortured Poets Department  era of the tour after the 1989  set towards the end. She performed "But Daddy I Love Him," "So High School," "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me," "Down Bad," "Fortnight," "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived" and "I Can Do It with a Broken Heart."

Swift's 11th studio album was released on April 19 to much fanfare.

The 31-track collection --  which turned out to be a surprise double album  -- features a hefty helping of  heartbreak songs  following her splits from  Joe Alwyn  and  Matty Healy , as well as a few  sweet love songs  amid her current relationship with  Travis Kelce .

"She has put her heart and soul into the music, just like with everything she does," a source told ET about the album, "and can't wait for her fans to listen to it and to share it with them."

Swifties predicted the singer would incorporate  TTPD into her tour after  Swift released a collection of new behind-the-scenes videos from what appeared to be tour rehearsals last month. The black-and-white clips are set to her current single, " Fortnight " featuring  Post Malone , as part of her ongoing #ForAFortnightChallenge on YouTube Shorts.

"A fortnight 'til Paris," she captioned the post. The term "Fortnight" refers to a period of two weeks, a reference to the first of four Eras shows at Paris La Défense Arena on May 9.

Swifties wasted no time dissecting the images, taking note of what appears to be new props that could indicate the addition of  TTPD  songs to her already extensive setlist.

ET recently spoke to Travis Kelce , the Kansas City Chiefs superstar dating the pop star, during which he  confirmed he'll be there with bells on  for Swift's upcoming performances.

"There won't be a bad show, I promise you that," he said. "You know I gotta go support."

Swift stuck to her original set list for the "Midnights" era by singing "Lavender Haze," "Anti-Hero" and "Midnight Rain." She ended the night with a triumphant rendition of "Karma" as usual.

'loml' is second secret song

Fans got one more taste of "The Tortured Poets Department" when Swift played the heartbreaking song "loml" on the piano during her secret set.

'Paris' is a secret song, of course

Swift started her secret set with "Paris," a bonus song from her "Midnights" album.

'Tortured Poets' set list

Swift played these songs from her newest album:

  • "But Daddy I Love Him"
  • "So High School"
  • "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me"
  • "Fortnight"
  • "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived"
  • "I Can Do It with a Broken Heart"

New 'Tortured Poets' set is here

Toward the end of her show, Swift officially launched the long-awaited “The Tortured Poets Department” section of the tour after the 1989 era.

Swift performed the track “But Daddy I Love Him” off the April 19 album for her ecstatic fans while wearing a new beige dress with cursive letters.

A road spiraled down the catwalk in an animation to initiate the era. The background animation showed a deserted road while large cages animated and fell on the road.

“Oh my god you should see your faces,” she sang.

She quickly segued into a brief moment of “So High School,” the beloved track speculated to be about her romance with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. She quickly performed the powerhouse anthem “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me.”

Swift switched to “Down Bad” before seamlessly transitioning into the lead single “Fortnight.” Stage production recreated an asylum that resembled the music video for the song with Post Malone, recorded harmony played concluding the song.

Dancers entered the stage in a marching band style format playing drums as she performed the wrath-fueled song “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived.” Jan Ravnik and Kameron Saunders then revived Swift in a jazzy skit to set up “I Can Do With A Broken Heart,” where she debuted another new outfit.

“The End” text displayed wrapping up the era that’s likely here to stay. Other beloved tracks like “Guilty As Sin” and “Florida!” did not make the cut.

New '1989' outfit

Swift never goes out of Style. During her “1989” set, she debuted a new, sequined outfit of blue and pink. Her sparkly shoes matched with a different colored heel on each. For the bridge of “Blank Space,” the crowd started chanting in Sydney, Australia, “Syd-ney” as a nod to the 1989 World Tour concert movie where Swift would chant the name of the city she was in after hitting a pole with a club two times. Singapore followed the chant and Taylor Nation tweeted they want every city to incorporate the fan-fueled chant. In Paris, thousands chanted “Par-ee,” the French way to say the capital city.

Swift made no cuts to the "1989" set.

Four songs cut from 'Folklore' and 'Evermore'

The new set list cut four tracks from the "Folklore" and "Evermore" eras:

  • "'Tis the Damn Season"
  • "Tolerate It"
  • "The Last Great American Dynasty"

The combined set included eight songs altogether and wrapped up with "Willow."

'Folkmore' set debuts

Swift revealed she merged the 2020 pandemic albums “Folklore” and “Evermore” into one section. She told fans she wrote “Folklore” to represent spring and summer with “Evermore” representing fall and winter in what she always considered sister albums.

“On the Eras Tour we have now reunited the sisters, combined them into one chapter,” she said. “You can call it whatever you want as long as you promise to sing ‘Champagne Problems’ with me.”

'Folklore' set: 'Cardigan' makes the cut

Many fans had speculated "Cardigan" would be cut from the set list. But Swift actually moved it to the top of the "Folklore" set.

Up next: 'Reputation'

Swift kicked off her fifth set with "Ready for It?"

Another surprise: 'Speak Now' era comes fourth

Swift updated her "Speak Now" set with an intro dance featuring Raphael Thomas and eight other dancers wearing flowy purple dresses. She then sang "Enchanted."

Fan favorite track "Long Live" was cut from the set list.

Order of eras changed

After a fairly routine "Fearless" set, Swift altered her concert by including the “Red” era third instead of the expected “Evermore” set. Previously, "Red" came fifth.

With a new shirt that read “This Is Not Taylor’s Version,” the singer performed "22" and showed her audience that they needed to leave any expectations at home.

The relocated "Red" set included the same four songs: "22," "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," "I Knew You Were Trouble" and "All Too Well (10-Minute Version)."

Beflore playing “All Too Well (10 Minute Version),” Swift talked about bringing all of her favorite memories to France. She did her 2019 “Lover” live show here but hadn’t brought a tour to the country since the Speak Now World Tour 13 years ago.“I cannot thank you enough. I’m so moved," she said.

Follow along with set list changes here .

First set list change

Swift cut "The Archer" from her "Lover" set before beginning her "Fearless" set in a silver and black minidress as opposed to her classic gold one. A graphic showed her "Lover" house with a new addition in the attic for "The Tortured Poets Department." Her "Fearless" set remained the same with "Fearless," "You Belong With Me" and "Love Story."

'Je m'appelle Taylor'

In her monologue before playing the song "Lover," Swift said the night would span 18 years of music. Previously, the concert covered 16 years. Get ready for a "The Tortured Poets Department" addition some time tonight.

She confirmed the tour would still go era by era, and also spoke about how Paramore is a band she idolized since she was a teenager. She ended with some French: "Je m'appelle Taylor."

First new outfit

Swift debuted a new, orange bodysuit and jacket for the "Lover" set.

Snippet of 'Tortured Poets' in intro

A snippet of the song "The Tortured Poets Department" was included in the intro music Swift kicks the concert off with. Is she foreshadowing other changes ahead? It seems likely.

Taylor Swift takes the stage

Swift took the stage about 8 p.m. in Paris (2 p.m. ET) to relaunch her Eras Tour in Europe. She kicked it off with a countdown clock and the Lesley Gore song "You Don't Own Me" as usual. Then she began her "Lover" set with "Miss Americana."

Paramore covers Blondie, Talking Heads in Paris set list

At the Paris show Thursday, Paramore energized fans with eight tracks including their cover off the upcoming “Stop Making Sense” tribute album out May 17 featuring artists like Miley Cyrus and Lorde.

Debuting a blond mullet, lead singer Hayley Williams encouraged fans to dance without fear of judgment ahead of Swift’s performance.

“Enjoy your time with Miss Taylor, we will see you next time,” Williams said.

Paramore's set list included:

  • "Hard Times"
  • "Burning Down the House" (Talking Heads cover)
  • "Caught in the Middle"
  • “Brick by Boring Brick”
  • “The Only Exception”
  • “That’s What You Get”
  • “Ain't It Fun”
  • “This Is Why”

Paramore begins their set

At about 6:45 p.m. in Paris (12:45 p.m. ET), Paramore began their set, officially restarting the second year of the historic Eras Tour. Lead singer Hayley Williams sported a new, blond mullet hairdo.

Paramore opens European leg of Eras Tour

The American rock band is joining Swift on her European leg of 51 shows. Paramore also opened the show for two nights in Glendale, Arizona, in 2023. Their setlist then included nine songs:

  • "This Is Why"
  • "That’s What You Get"
  • "The Only Exception"
  • "Still Into You"
  • "Rose-Colored Boy"
  • "Misery Business"
  • "Ain’t It Fun"

Where to watch the Eras Tour livestreams

The Eras Tour is one of the first tours that has been followed, globally, by thousands of fans on digital platforms. Fans dedicate part of their concert experience to livestreaming as Swift performs. Livestream Queen Tess Bohne has spearheaded the "Great War" to find fans going live on social media and broadcasting a custom show to tens of thousands of fans almost every night on her account @tessdear .

On YouTube, user @TaylorSwiftHockeyBro also livestreams the 3-hour show, and on Twitch, @folkleric is a host fans follow.

There is also an app, Swift Alert , that notifies fans who only want to watch certain eras like the acoustic, surprise set. The app also sends out push alerts if there are any major announcements.

What secret songs are left?

For the past 83 shows, Swift has had an acoustic set she customizes every stop with a guitar and piano performance. In 2024, the Eras Tour star added mash-ups of her songs for each stop. Here are the songs she has yet to perform:

  • "Taylor Swift" (debut album): "Mary's Song" and "A Perfectly Good Heart"
  • "Fearless": "The Way I Loved You," "Change," "Superstar," "We Were Happy," "That's When," "Don't You" and "Bye Bye Baby"
  • "Red": "Girl At Home," "Ronan," "Forever Winter" and "Run"
  • "1989": "Sweeter Than Fiction"
  • "Reputation": "I Did Something Bad"
  • "Lover": "London Boy," "Soon You'll Get Better" and "It's Nice to Have a Friend"
  • "Folklore": "Hoax"
  • "Evermore": "Happiness" and "Closure"
