This is without a doubt one of the best anime I've ever watched. The only lack he has is the lack of seriousness and tension around the theme of death. Yes, characters never die no matter how injured they are and, in my opinion, even if they took the protagonist's heart it wouldn't affect anything.

This means that the main characters and even the secondary ones NEVER DIE. I don't understand why this is, but it looks like it has something to do with a previous work by the fairy tail creator. I don't know the details and it doesn't matter for this article. Let's continue on the list. My grade is 8!

Ao no exorcist - The blue exorcist

Ao no Exorcist follows Rin Okumura, who appears to be an ordinary, troubled teenager - until one day he is ambushed by demons. His world is turned upside down when he discovers that he is in fact Satan's own son and that his demon father wants him to return so they can conquer Assiah together.

My opinion on Ao no exorcist

The protagonist has incredible power, but his demon nature prevails in some aspects of his personality, which made it difficult for him to create and adapt to the world.

But since he was raised by an exorcist priest, these problems didn't interfere as much as they could. This anime has some flaws like that cliché of the protagonist always taking power from some kind of emergency fund. With the protagonist having an ability that makes him "grow up fast", this is without a doubt the most unique power I've ever seen in anime. And even if they say it's an absurd power and that it makes everything boring, I think it's much better for the progress to be explained somehow.

Even though this form is absurd, I think it's much better than those anime that don't explain where that power and progress comes from. But unfortunately we have a defect that is the great evil of almost all anime, the protagonist is extremely slow when it comes to women. my grade is 9

Nantzu no taizai - 7 deadly sins

In a world similar to the European Middle Ages, the feared and respected Holy Knights of Britannia use immensely powerful magic to protect the region of Britannia and its kingdoms.

However, a small subset of the Knights allegedly betrayed their homeland and turned their blades on their comrades in an attempt to overthrow the ruler of the Lions.

My opinion about Nanatsu no Taizai

If this one were left out of this list I don't even know if it would be acceptable. As one of the most anticipated and acclaimed anime by the public, Nanatzu is undoubtedly one of the most recommended anime when the story is powerful protagonist, magic, fights and demons.

For those who haven't watched it, I advise you to put this one at the top of the list. I particularly love the love story between the ban's character and Elaine, but there are several other aspects of romance in the story. Its faults are few but what bothers the most are some perverted habits that don't suit the protagonist. my grade is 8

Fullmetal Alchemist - Brotherhood

I don't need praise for this anime, because as they say "fame precedes you". Few anime can be compared to this one in terms of audience ratings. To give you an idea, Naruto can't surpass the ratings and audience that FMA has in MAL.

Of course, Naruto is much more influential in the media and other sectors, but if we are going to base it on the raw criteria of the MAL website, this is without a doubt the best anime of all time. For it is in first place both in rating and in popularity. My grade is 10.

My opinion on Amagi Brilliant Park

Well, the question that remains in this synopsis is “does he accept?”. I can't give spoilers as this is an early part of the plot, and it's important because the decision affects all park staff. These employees are by no means common and are also responsible for much of the anime's funny scenes.

Despite being very egocentric and narcissistic, the protagonist has his hours of weaknesses and is always willing to attract more fame for himself. Of course, there is a thread of romance in the anime, but I don't know if the story continues in the original work and how the romance ends. But overall it's an anime that makes you happy and excited. my grade is 8

Kobayashi san maid dragon

Synopsis doesn't talk about the characters, that's because it's not an anime that can be said to be "serious", I'd say it's a satire or parody. The theme for this parody is exactly the fantasy genre and aspects such as dungeons, guilds, expeditions, powers and especially powerful protagonists without explanations.

In this one, the protagonist is extremely stupid and powerful, in my theory I think his cleverness and intelligence were exchanged for strength in combat. I'm pretty sure they wanted to show how absurd the cliché can become. Too bad it's not very popular, because not everyone shares this opinion. my grade is 8

As I couldn't miss this topic, I'll put only the best ones in my opinion. But unfortunately I don't have many copies on my list, so I don't know if it will satisfy those more demanding people, but I can say that it's a good list.

But after all, who doesn't love romance? The anime that I give a 10, most have a well-developed romance and the plot doesn't ask when it comes to romance. And here are the best ones I know when romance meets fantasy.

But as I've said before, there are exceptions and different tastes that vary from person to person and so I can't say that all readers will agree with my list, but it's worth a look.

Kyokai no kanata

Kanata Mirai Kuriyama is the sole survivor of a clan of spirit world warriors with the power to employ their blood as weapons. As such, Mirai is tasked with hunting and killing "youmu" - creatures said to be the manifestation of negative human emotions.

One day, while thinking on the school roof, Mirai comes across Akihito Kanbara, a rare youmu half-breed in human form. In a panicked state, she plunges her bloodsaber into him only to realize he is an immortal being.

From there, the two form an impromptu friendship that revolves around Mirai constantly trying to kill Akihito, in an effort to boost her own faltering confidence as a Spirit World warrior.

However, as the bond strengthens, so does the tenacity of the youmu around him. Their misadventures will soon turn into a fight for survival, as the inevitable release of the mightiest youmu, Beyond the Boundary, draws near.

It's crying. That's what I can certainly say about this anime, because its story deeply involves the audience and then something happens that everyone hates. Of course I won't tell you what it is because it's a big spoiler, but I can say that the romance is very deep.

I honestly didn't find other anime that made me so angry at the end, of course akame Ga Kill is there to be the one I was most angry about the ending, but apart from the last one I can say that Kyoukai is in second place. But that doesn't take away from the shine that the story has and that intensifies as it goes along. my grade is 9

Zero no tsukaima

This is an anime that was so successful that even with the death of its author and consequently the stoppage of its original work, the public had so much influence that the studio had to improvise a final season to not leave the work incomplete and thus satisfy a little. the public. And yes, this anime is all that, at least in my opinion, it's thousands or even millions of people in the world. my grade is 10

Rakudai kishi

This is that anime that is no use commenting because you will never even come close to describing how good it is. But just watching the first episode, you already have a good idea of how good this anime is, but of course it doesn't compare to using the 3 episode rule. My grade is 10 (and a round of applause to complete)

Akatsuki no yona

My opinion on Akatsuki no Yona

Another anime that breaks many clichés. And it's quite interesting when someone has to lower themselves, but it gets more interesting when a princess is put in that situation. Of course, she will have help, but she is the only one who has to restore and get her old post.

Romance will not be lacking, and the same can be said for drama and action, as the synopsis already gives us a twinge of curiosity and imagine watching the anime. Lucky for the princess that some things don't get lost like her position. And this will help a lot on her journey. my grade is 7

Mahoutsukai no yome

These events mark the beginning of Chise's story as an apprentice and supposed bride to the former mage.

My opinion on Mahou Tsukai Yome

And to close this topic with a flourish, a very recent anime. And just as it is very recent, it is also well praised and its fame has traveled the world and conquered a large number of fans. But unfortunately I couldn't help but curse the fact that the protagonist continued to have a goat's head.

Fortunately, a mysterious beauty named Satella, in pursuit of whoever stole her badge, appears on top of Subaru and saves him. To thank the honest and kind girl, Subaru offers to help in her search, and later that night, he even finds the whereabouts of what she is looking for.

But unbeknownst to them, a much darker force pursues the pair from the shadows, and just minutes after locating the badge, Subaru and Satella are brutally murdered.

However, Subaru immediately awakens to a familiar scene – confronted by the same group of thugs, encountering Satella again – the enigma deepens as history inexplicably repeats itself.

My opinion on Re:Zero

Considered one of the best Anime of 2016, this anime is undoubtedly an opinion divider. Some think it didn't have a good outcome and development, while others think it was the perfect anime and that the opposite opinion comes from those who can't let go and get out of their comfort zone.

I'm reluctantly in the latter group, for some aspects that have been put too explicitly this one is not in a higher ranking. But it doesn't stay out of this list, because it still makes one of the best anime that you can find so far. But no, I don't advise it for those who have a weak stomach and give up things easily. my grade is 9

"Mushi": the most basic forms of life in the world. They exist without any goals or purposes other than simply "being". They are beyond the shackles of the words "good" and "evil". Mushi can exist in myriad forms and are capable of mimicking things in the natural world such as plants, diseases, and even phenomena like rainbows.

This is, however, only a vague definition of these entities that inhabit the vibrant world of Mushishi, as even calling them a life form would be an oversimplification. Detailed information about Mushi is scarce because most humans are unaware of its existence.

My opinion about Mushishi

Well, you won't find much action in this anime, or rather, you won't find almost any action. Basically it will have a lot of drama and psychological plots, the latter I guarantee that it will be presented in abundance, which in my opinion is a requirement to increase the grade.

I can't comment much as I don't know how to do this. This anime is extremely intriguing and when you delve into the curiosity about this plot, it is not easy to get rid of the obsession that is created, I really liked this anime and I recommend it to people who like more psychological stories.

Made in Abyss

Abyss The Abyss – a gaping abyss that stretches deep into the earth, filled with mysterious creatures and relics of a long time past. Countless brave individuals known as Divers have attempted to solve the mysteries of the Abyss, fearlessly descending into its darkest realms.

The best and bravest of divers, the white whistles, are hailed as legends by those who remain on the surface. Riko, daughter of the missing white whistle Lyza the Annihilator, aspires to become like her mother and explore the furthest reaches of the Abyss. However, just a rookie Red Whistle, she is only allowed to roam her highest tier.

Even so, Riko has a chance encounter with a mysterious robot with the appearance of an ordinary boy. Certain that the technology to create Reg must come from within the Abyss, the two decide to venture into the Abyss to regain their memories and see rock bottom with their own eyes.

My opinion on Made in Abyss

Despite its characters being drawn with a very childish trait, the anime doesn't fit for that age, and even some older people still have their stomachs turned over by many of the tension parts this anime causes.

It's tension from the beginning, but I recommend using the 3-episode rule in this anime because it has some intro parts for secondary characters and other important preparations that every anime needs. But then it's just tension and overwhelming psychological pressure. Anime gold that I don't recommend for those with a weak stomach My grade is 9

Kekkai sensen

Supersonic apes, vampires, talking fishmen and all sorts of different supernatural monsters that live alongside humans – this has been a part of everyday life in Hellsalem's Lot, formerly known as New York, for some time now. When a portal between Earth and the beyond opened three years ago, New Yorkers and creatures from the other dimension were trapped in an impenetrable bubble and forced to live together.

Pursuing photography as a hobby, Leonardo Watch is living a normal life with his parents and sister. But when he obtains the "All-Seeing Eyes of the Gods" at the expense of his sister's vision, he goes to Helsalem's Lot to help her, finding answers about the mysterious powers he has been given.

My opinion on Kekkai Sensen

Plot too banal, and basically too rushed and couldn't take the time to properly introduce each new character. This resulted in new characters jumping in from all over the place and taking important positions in the plot, most of which had no information to make their presentation.

This is a serious problem that resulted in a big drop in the ranking, unfortunately it was very rushed, but its plot and characters are excellent, and if it was done correctly it would be in a much higher position in MAL's ranking. But it is still an anime that excites you and involves you with its plot. my grade is 7

Violet Evergarden

The Great War finally came

Hospitalized and maimed in a bloody skirmish during the final leg of the War, she was left with only words from the person she loved most, but without understanding their meaning. My opinion on Violet Evergarden

When it comes to being serious and life lessons, I don't think there's a better example than this story. Great candidate for the best anime of 2018, we have the story that moved thousands of people, for its story of overcoming it is its great drama.

The drama is the word that defines this anime, basically it's two major dramas. The first is understanding the feelings that she doesn't know what they mean; and the second is finding a way to live her life for herself and be happy for herself. These are the goals that Violet, our protagonist, has to achieve in this anime. And I recommend this anime a thousand times to any kind of audience. My rating is 10.

To end our list with a flourish, the best combination there is. In my opinion it's always interesting to have a harem in anime, but when anime has fantasy it's almost mandatory to have a harem.

That's in my opinion, but harem is one of the best genres out there, but it doesn't help much since the protagonists don't have the attitude for it, and overwhelmingly the protagonist is a defenseless coward when it comes to serious romance. I sincerely hope for an anime with more anime like Rakudai kishi.

My opinion on Trinity Seven

Yes, as I couldn't miss in this topic the anime that fits properly in 85% of the requirements I have, to be considered a perfect anime. Our protagonist is one of the guys with the most attitude in the anime universe. But because there are no results he won't win 10.

But for those who like a marrento protagonist and totally out of the ordinary, this is the anime that I nominate the most. Unfortunately there is a cliché that loves to appear in the plot that is the protagonist I managed to power for no concrete reason. It has its explanations but they don't convince me, it's just that it's the best anime I have in this topic. my grade is 9

My opinion about Gate

This synopsis is very complete and in itself already makes a great advertisement for the anime, but things like the anime having the most charismatic character of all anime, in my opinion, has not been written. It's not an exaggeration, I consider the gothic loli that is in this Anime as the most charming and with the best personality of all anime.

Well, leaving aside my opinion, the anime has some errors which is the lack of reason for the portal to appear, I believe the light novel explains it but I still haven't found this part. Another big mistake is the fact that even though the protagonist is a great otaku, not letting his whims take over his body is taking advantage of girls. This is my wish but it's not mandatory (lol). my grade is 9

My opinion on Strike the Blood

Very popular because of its protagonist. Not because the protagonist has a good attitude and is powerful in his own right, it has nothing to do with it. The fact is, to get powers he needs to drink the blood of people, and what does that mean? Yes, lots of girls with bitten necks.

Of course they all gave permission and that's what's interesting. With the exception of these parts, the protagonist is common (cowardly and always on the run when it comes to women). But that's not all, to top it off there's still a big, boring catchphrase that the two who were featured in the synopsis use every time they fight together. Which makes the fight even more boring and predictable. my grade is 7

Ichiban ushiro no daimaou

Dreaming of changing the world forever, Akuto Sai transfers to Constant Magic Academy, where he befriends a virtuous member of the ninja clan, Junko Hattori. On their way to the gym, they vow to make the world a better place together; however, the situation suddenly worsens when he arrives – it is prophesied that he will become the Demon King!

As word of his fate spreads, the school begins to fear him, and Junko's trust in him wavers. While Akuto is determined not to let his foretold future control his destiny, it seems that everything he says and does only serve to reinforce the fact that he is destined to be the Demon King.

Plus, he's surrounded by a harem of pretty girls, each with their own plans for him, from bringing him to justice to simply showering him with love. With his newly awakened powers, Akuto must deal with his growing list of misfortunes and fight to prove that his fate is not set in stone.

My opinion on Ichiban Ushiro

To relieve the tension of so many cowardly protagonists, here's the anime that has one of the badass protagonists I've ever seen. It doesn't match Tatsuya (mahouka kouko) in some aspects but totally surpasses it in others. And for this reason there are others that I cannot say, this anime is on this list.

And not just to make any participation, this anime is on merit. It's not every day that an anime appears where the protagonist is found in a big dilemma. For your nature is for evil, but your conscience is for good. And with this dilemma he has to deal with throughout the anime. Too bad it only has a single season even with more than 10 volumes of the light novel.

Rosario to Vampire

Youkai Academy is a seemingly normal boarding school, except its students are monsters learning to live with humans. All students attend the human form and accept normal academic subjects such as literature, academia, foreign language, and mathematics. However, there is a golden rule at Youkai Academy – all humans found on school grounds must be executed immediately!

I would love to be in this character's shoes, there's the bad part of suffering from ammonia from having your blood sucked every day by a vampire. But it doesn't take away the glory of being able to live together and be disputed by monster girls who are beautiful.

Yes, I have a little fetish for anime that have monster girls. But that doesn't influence anything in my opinion about the crux of this anime, which is the protagonist having a preference for a single girl. What goes through the minds of pros to choose just one girl? It seems I will never understand this.

A Certain Magical Index boasts unique characters, each equipped with special abilities. Despite the simple plot, it's interesting to watch high school students with powers deal with challenges in their own unique way.

13. Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches

While not a masterpiece, Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches is a classic that's thoroughly entertaining in its own right.

The anime centers on an ex-delinquent named Ryuu Yamada, who wanted to have a fresh start in his high-school years. He decided to attend Suzuka High, where no one knew about his dark past. However, he soon gets bored with his high-school life and reverts back to his bad habits.

One day, while making his way down from the rooftop, he bumps into the beautiful honors student Urara Shiraishi. However, he misses a step and falls alongside the girl. When Yamada wakes up, he finds himself in Shiraishi's body, and the pair realizes that they can swap bodies with a kiss.

With these newfound abilities, the high school students join a "Supernatural Studies Club," where they are introduced to the legend of the seven witches. As the duo embarks on their quest to find the identities of all the witches, they must learn to utilize their body swap ability in the best way possible.

While gender bender isn't a new theme in anime, combining it with witchcraft, thriller, and romantic elements makes Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches infinitely more interesting.

12. Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor

Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor is a show that exceeds the expectations of all the viewers; after all, it is rare to see a good adaptation of a light novel.

The anime is set in Alzano Empire, and more specifically, in the Alzano Imperial Magic Academy. Many young magicians come to this academy to enhance their skills, and Sistine Febel and her bright-eyed best friend, Rumia Tingel, are no exception.

However, their world is turned upside down when their beloved instructor retires and is replaced by the elusive Glenn Radars, whose lax and uninterested attitude alienates him from the rest of his class. As dark forces hiding behind the Empire's borders begin to operate, Sistine, Rumia, and Glenn get entangled in their designs.

With an unpredictable plot, countless high school students with powers, and decent animation, it'll be a shame not to add Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor to the list.

11. Strike the Blood

If you want to see an average high school student discover and awaken mind-boggling abilities and rescue the world, this is the show for you. The plot of Strike the Blood is organized around arcs, with new villains introduced in each one.

However, due to an unexpected encounter, he is left with the abilities of a powerful vampire. It doesn't take him long before he is told that he is the fourth primogenitor, a very powerful vampire who has been considered merely a myth. 

Fearing Kojou's power, the Lion King Organization dispatches Yukina Himeragi, an aspiring sword-shaman, to keep an eye on him. As Kojou comes to terms with his powers, the duo is forced to battle and safeguard the city from different rising chaotic forces.

Strike the Blood's strong features include its art, action, and simple storyline. It's generic, yet it outperforms most other shows in the same category. It's best for people who favor action over plot and fanservice over progress.

10. Kokoro Connect

What would you do if you and your friends began to switch bodies randomly? Or what if your deepest, darkest urges were forced to the surface, entirely out of your control? Kokoro Connect tells the story of a group of youngsters who have lost control over their bodies.

When five Yamaboshi Academy students discover that there are no clubs where they belong, they establish the Student Cultural Society. Taichi Yaegashi, a die-hard wrestling enthusiast; Iori Nagase, an inconsistent optimist; Himeko Inaba, a quiet computer prodigy; Yui Kiriyama, a karate practitioner; and Yoshifumi Aoki, the class clown, slowly learn about each other's hidden secrets that might break their friendship apart.

Kokoro Connect takes a supernatural plot, adds some well-written high-school romance and lots of gripping drama, and wraps it all up in one fantastic package.

When it comes to overpowered high school students, this anime is undeniably one of the best.

Magic, previously considered a component of mythology and imagination, has evolved into a systemized technique that is now taught as technical talent. The First High School, which teaches these abilities, divides its students according to their admission exam results. Those who get high grades are referred to as "Blooms" and are placed in the first course, whereas students who achieve lower grades are referred to as "Weeds" and are placed in the second course.

Tatsuya and Miyuki Shiba are the protagonists of the anime. While Miyuki breezes through the first course thanks to her extensive knowledge, Tatsuya gets enrolled in the second. However, despite his low grade, he has extensive technical expertise and a unique approach to magic, which makes him stand out amongst the rest.

If you like an op protagonist, fantastic animation, and, of course, high school students with powers, then Irregular at Magic High School is a must-watch!

8. Rakudai Kishi no Eiyuutan

Few people on this planet can control their souls to create formidable weapons. These people are known as "Blazers," and they study and train to become Mage-Knights at the elite Hagun Academy.

The anime revolves around Ikki Kurogane, the only F-rated Blazer in the academy. When the weakest student witnesses Stella Vermillion, an A-ranked Blazer, nude, she challenges him to a battle with dire consequences—the loser becomes the winner's slave.

Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry follows Ikki as he attempts to prove his power while making new friends, learning new skills, and accumulating experience.

Rakudai boasts an expansive roster of high school students with powers, each with unique skills. Fans of this genre will enjoy Rakudai, mainly due to its exciting battles, art, decent fanservice, a little innovation, and genuine work put into the show.

7. Angel Beats

Angel Beats is an anime that will make you laugh and cry uncontrollably at the same time. The story follows Otonashi, a boy who wakes up in the "afterlife". Immediately, he comes across a rifle-toting girl named Yuri that leads the Shinda Sekai Sensen (Afterlife Battlefront). The goal of this group is to wage war against Tenshi, a white-haired girl that they believe to be the final boss.

Unable to believe Yuri's claims and attempts at initiating him into their group, Otonashi attempts to speak with Tenshi, except the encounter doesn't go exactly as he intended. Soon, he decides to join the SSS but finds himself oddly drawn to their enemy. While trying to regain his memories and understand the mysterious Tenshi, Otonashi gradually unravels the mysteries of the afterlife.

Angel Beats has a unique supernatural premise where a group of dead teenagers refuses to move on to the next life. In just one season, each character's backstory is beautifully explored, and by the end, everyone manages to find some sort of peace with the world and themselves.

Finally, a word of caution: do not watch the special "Another Epilogue" immediately after finishing the main series. Take your time and let your mind wander. Otherwise, you'll become obsessed with alternate endings and hypotheses.

Blue Exorcist's plot may be a little stereotypical; however, it's still undoubtedly a fantastic anime with powerful high school students. Fans are convinced an anime adaptation of The Man Who Saved Me On My Isekai Trip is on the way; sadly, that does not look to be the case. 

The Man Who Saved Me On My Isekai Trip Is a Killer is a popular manga from author Ahan Horihori (known online as horihori_ahan ) intended for adult audiences. 

It tells the story of a young woman who is saved by a bloodthirsty killer after waking up in a mysterious land. 

The Man Who Saved Me On My Isekai Anime Seemingly Teased

A viral video sparked speculation about a potential incoming The Man Who Saved Me On My Isekai Trip Is a Killer anime adaptation. 

The NSFW video, first shared by @Bleach_Bae on X (formerly Twitter), was first released in 2022 but has continued to pop up thanks to its virality on platforms like TikTok. 

Featuring high-quality animation and a convincing look at the Iseakai Trip world, the 45-second supposed teaser looks convincing enough, causing fans to wonder if an adaptation of the adult-oriented manga is on the way. 

However, that is not the case. According to the manga's author Ahan Horihori , this video is nothing more than a "PV (promotional video)" and "there are no plans to make it into an anime" (as translated from Japanese to English):

"This anime PV (promotional video) is an animation produced as part of a project. Since it is just a PV, there are no plans to make it into an anime in the future."

He added that while there are no plans to adapt The Man Who Saved Me On My Isekai Trip into an anime, he does have an interest in making his "doujin comic aimed at girls" into one:

"But I would like to make an anime of the doujin comic aimed at girls!!!!!!!! I wish someone would make it into an anime!!!!!!!!!!!!"

How Likely Is an Isekai Trip Anime?

While there have been no public announcements made about a potential The Man Who Saved Me On My Isekai Trip Is a Killer anime adaptation, that is not to say it will never happen. 

The popularity of this promotional video in particular cannot be ignored. More than two years after first being posted, this brief tease of what an anime version of this story could look like continues to capture the imagination of fans. 

It is a little surprising that a studio has not picked up Horihori san's hit manga for a TV adaptation. 

One of the hurdles holding a The Man Who Saved Me On My Isekai Trip anime back could be the racy content found within its pages. 

Japanese media does not shy away from hyper-sexualized content or mature themes like sexual assault and beyond, but Isekai Trip features these things with a particular fervency. 

That said, if an adaptation of the manga were to happen, it would not be all that surprising. But, as anime continues to become more and more international, selling this sort of series internationally could be something executives may be getting hung up on.

We all love flashy abilities in anime, especially when they're drawn with insanely good animation and executed during climactic moments. But for every pillar of flame, violent wind scythe, or swirling water dragon, there are extraordinarily unique abilities that are cool in their own ways.

Not all techniques, skills, jutsus, and powers are based on the stereotypical fire, water, wind, and earth attributes. Not all involve violence, destruction, or death. Some of the most memorable abilities are actually quite simple, but can be useful in creative ways.

Here are my picks for the most unique powers and abilities featured in anime and why they're actually pretty cool.

20. Regeneration Minimum (Hamatora)

Art was believed to be just an ordinary man, at least until he was killed and returned to life with his Regeneration Minimum , an ability that was triggered by his death.

The Ajins of the series Ajin: Demi-Human also possess this same type of ability, in which they return to life after being "reset" and restoring all of their lost limbs and broken body parts.

19. Power of Absolute Obedience (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion)

Lelouch vi Britannia was given a Geass called Power of Absolute Obedience that allows him to command any person who makes direct eye contact with him—but he can't control the same person twice. He uses this Geass in many surprising ways throughout the series.

There are other Geass that may seem more useful and more powerful than Lelouch's—like Charles's which enables him to alter memories—but the Power of Absolute Obedience is unique in its power, which can even command someone to continue living.

The Naruto series is filled with different kinds of abilities that are based on the four elements of nature, but the Reanimation Jutsu looks more like witchcraft and dark magic than any normal ninja skill.

As long as you have genetic material, this technique can summon the soul of a dead person and bind that soul to a living sacrifice, effectively bringing them back to life.

What makes this unique compared to most reanimation spells is that it can't be undone unless released by the caster, so the reanimated person will continue remaining in the world even if the caster dies.

Furthermore, reanimated bodies cannot die. Even if they're broken to pieces, they will regenerate. The only way to defeat a reanimated person is to seal their soul away for good.

14. Conqueror's Haki (One Piece)

Who would have thought that intimidation has a higher form? The Conqueror's Haki works by overpowering another's willpower, knocking them unconscious if they aren't strong enough.

Unlike the other two forms of Haki, this one can't be attained through training alone. The Conqueror's Haki is innate to a select few individuals who are said to have the qualities of a king. Some of the known users include Shanks, Luffy, Katakuri, Bullet, and Rayleigh.

Rimuru's Merciless in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime works in a similar way to Conqueror's Haki: anyone who loses their will to fight in front of the caster will automatically die.

Despite being a mere slime, Rimuru Tempest acquired a skill that made him one of the strongest creatures in his world: the Predator technique , which allows him to consume anything and acquires properties, including magical attributes and immunities.

In addition to the things he ate to gain powers, he also has Veldora inside his stomach, giving him an immense boost in power and properties. He can also use the skills of whatever he consumes, making him one of the most overpowered anime characters.

This ability later evolved as his powers grew stronger—from Predator to Gluttony and then Beelzebuth. While it still has the properties and effects of the original Predator, it becomes way cooler and more badass.

Instead of Rimuru engulfing his target with his slime body, both Gluttony and Beelzebuth become an emitter-type ability in the form of a dark substance that pulls and absorbs his targets.

12. One For All (My Hero Academia)

At first glance, One For All seems to be a simple enhancement-type Quirk that multiplies the user's power a hundredfold or even a thousandfold, such that a single punch can be overwhelming to throw.

But over the course of My Hero Academia , we learn that there's more to this Quirk than first meets the eye.

One For All is an ability that can be passed down from one to another, and embedded within the ability are all the consciousnesses of its previous wielders along with their individual Quirk factors.

This allows Izuku Midoriya, the current wielder, to deliver destructive blows while having access to all the Quirks of the previous wielders, such as the fifth wielder's Quirk called Blackwhip.

11. No Longer Human (Bungo Stray Dogs)

In a world full of battles that involve special powers, a technique that can nullify any power is most powerful of them all. In Bungo Stray Dogs , Osamu Dazai uses his No Longer Human ability to negate people's abilities and stop deadly clashes.

Many anime series feature abilities of a similar concept, like Shota Aizawa's Erase Quirk in My Hero Academia and Asta's Anti-Magic in Black Clover . These types of abilities are interesting because they level the playing field and lead to unforeseen results.

10. Hakoware (Hunter X Hunter)

Of all the Nen abilities featured in the Hunter X Hunter series, Knuckle's Hakoware is one of the most complex in terms of application. It operates like a bank or lending company, but uses Nen instead of money.

With every hit, the counter of the Aura Power Redirector (APR) adds interest. If he gets hit, interest is subtracted. The APR then turns into Individual Ren Suppressor (IRS) when certain conditions are met, which renders the target unable to use Nen for 30 days.

9. Sharingan (Naruto)

The Sharingan is perhaps the most unique ability in both Naruto and Naruto Shippuden to this day. It's one of those things that kept fans hooked for years, pulling them along with its mysteries—not to mention the awesome characters like Kakashi and Itachi.

Early in the series, the Sharingan was only an enhancement of vision and reflexes, allowing the user to copy another's jutsus.

Later on, the Sharingan became more complex: able to alter reality with Izanagi, create a spiritual avatar with Susanoo, or even trap someone in an endless illusion with Tsukuyomi.

Going even further, the Sharingan can potentially be awakened into the Rinnegan, which is a far superior eye with god-like abilities: wiping out entire landscapes with Shinra Tensei or even calling forth meteors from outer space with Tengai Shinsei.

8. Thunder Breathing, First Form: Thunderclap and Flash (Demon Slayer)

While Zenitsu Agatsuma is a user of Thunder Breathing, he has only mastered its first form: Thunderclap and Flash. Yet, in battle, he has proven that one form is more than enough to slash his way through his enemies—even an Upper Moon Demon.

Thunder Breathing, First Form: Thunderclap and Flash utilizes speed and leg power, which are the basic components of Thunder Breathing. He dashes with incredible speed to deliver a fast and deadly sword strike.

What's cool about this technique is it resembles the real-life quick-draw sword technique called Iaijutsu. The Thunderclap and Flash moments are some of the best animated scenes in Demon Slayer , featuring the flashy technique partnered with badass vibes.

7. Prayer of Debility (Dark Gathering)

Yayoi Hozuki's "The Imprisoned Demon Sergeant Who Died for His Country" has a very unique ability called the Prayer of Debility .

This technique manifests instantly upon calling him into battle, in which he marks the area with an eye pattern with him at the center. Those caught within his mark are weakened and suffer the same pain he experienced in war.

What's unique about this power is that instead of making him stronger as the ability intensifies and the mark gets bigger, it actually makes him weaker—along with anyone or anything caught inside.

With the Prayer of Debility, he actually hopes that someone will eventually defeat him since he's weak. However, the Prayer of Debility also utilizes his super regeneration ability, which keeps him alive while his opponents succumb to weakness.

6. Heavenly Restriction (Jujutsu Kaisen)

While the Jujutsu Kaisen series commonly features abilities revolving around Cursed Techniques and Domain Expansions, there's one unique ability that only a few had access to: Heavenly Restriction .

Heavenly Restriction isn't an active or triggered ability; rather, it's a kind of inborn curse that places limitations on a person. However, it grants something in exchange that's proportional to the limitations.

The most famous "sorcerer" with Heavenly Restriction is Toji Fushiguro. Born without Cursed Energy but gifted with heightened physical strength, he's so powerful that he almost kills Satoru Gojo.

Another person with Heavenly Restriction is Kokichi Muta, who was born with a weak and deteriorating body, but in return was gifted with a massive reserve of Cursed Energy.

5. Severed Universe (Fire Force)

Of all the time-stopping abilities in anime, Sho's Severed Universe appears to be the only one that actually has scientific reasoning that coincides with the real-life theory of universe expansion.

When Severed Universe is used, Sho cools down his surroundings and neutralizes the heat that's responsible for the "expansion of the Universe," thus slowing everything down for him.

Upon activation, it looks like he's moving at incredible speeds, but in reality it's everything else around him that's slowing down or even stopping altogether.

The downside of Severed Universe is that he can't maintain it for too long, as the cold and freezing effects also affect his body.

4. The Visionary (Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War)

Let's forget about Zanpakutos and Bankai for a moment and look at Gremmy's unique ability: The Visionary . With this ability, he can make anything he imagines manifest and materialize in the real world.

The Visionary is an overpowered ability, especially in the hands of Gremmy who utilizes every fantasy he has to bring forth destruction and chaos. From meteors coming down to imagining he can't die, Gremmy proved how deadly one's imagination can be.

Then again, this power was also the cause of his defeat. He imagined that he had power greater than Zaraki—and while The Visionary granted him an overwhelming power that surpassed Zaraki, his body started to break down as it couldn't handle the power he had imagined.

3. I Am Atomic (The Eminence in Shadow)

Shadow is one of the many overpowered characters common in isekai anime. His ability called I Am Atomic is a powerful finisher move in his arsenal and one of the flashiest abilities in anime.

By concentrating magic on a single point (i.e., his sword), he can release a destructive force akin to a nuclear blast.

There are several variations of this ability featured in The Eminence in Shadow , all having destructive properties. However, one time, he used a variation to save people instead of obliterating them.

I Am Atomic has a pretty interesting backstory, too: out of his desire to survive a nuclear blast, Shadow took things one step further and decided that he must become the incarnate of nuclear power itself.

2. Sunshine (The Seven Deadly Sins)

In The Seven Deadly Sins , Escanor's Grace called Sunshine has some limitations and handicaps. With this Grace, Escanor is a tall and muscular man during the day but thin and fragile at night.

However, these limitations and handicaps are well-compensated by the power boost that's granted during the day—and it grows ever stronger as the sun reaches its highest peak at noon.

To make things more interesting, Sunshine doesn't end with the setting of the sun. It can also use one's own life force as its power source, as seen when Escanor was able to keep his powers active against the Demon King while burning away his own life.

1. Serious Punch (One Punch Man)

Saitama of One Punch Man is unique because he doesn't have any visually flashy moves yet remains extremely overpowered. He packs insane power in his abilities, most notably the Serious Punch .

While his normal punches are strong enough to knock down enemies, his Serious Punch is so powerful that it even outclassed Boros's intergalactic powers and gave him the fight he was looking for.

Set in a distant future, REDLINE follows genius driver Sweet JP as he goes pedal to the metal in the galaxy’s most dangerous death race.

This intense film will delight fans of speed and badass characters.

It’ll take your mind for a spin with vehicles and drivers that are just as cool as they are bizarre.

The animation is fluid, colorful, and stylish.

As the speed gets more and more intense, so does the animation.

Characters get deformed, and perspective becomes relative as they approach the speed of light.

It makes for some remarkably trippy scenes.

13. Paprika

Director Satoshi Kon is known for his mind-bending films, and we’ll see a lot of him throughout this ranking.

But in this case, the film Paprika follows a couple of researchers-turned-investigators as they jump from dream to dream in pursuit of a criminal who’s taken control of their dream-exploring technology.

Paprika is not only a movie about dreams.

It’s also written like one .

You may not really understand what just happened when you first finish watching it, but the underlying narratives start to emerge as time goes by.

12. Paranoia Agent

Genre: Mystery, Psychological, Thriller Length: 13 Eps. Studio: Madhouse

One of Satoshi Kon’s most famous works is Paranoia Agent, which follows the exploits of a mysterious and seemingly un-catchable bat-wielding assailant and the effects he has on the town he terrorizes.

Each episode is like a classic theatrical tragedy.

You know it ends with a bat to the head. But what happens in-between will keep you glued to the screen.

The plot has so many twists, it’s almost pointless to try and understand it the first time around – but don’t worry, it all starts coming together toward the end.

Like in Paprika and other Kon works, reality and fantasy – or, in this case, paranoia – slowly blend until they become one and the same.

Genre: Surreal Comedy, Sci-Fi Length: 6 Eps. Studio: Gainax

One of the most famously psychedelic anime in existence is FLCL – also known as Furi Kuri.

This show brings together a somewhat disjointed storytelling style with profoundly relevant and relatable themes such as the pains of growing up and finding your own path in life.

FLCL is a classic coming-of-age story hiding deep under a veneer of total chaos.

It’s also a mind-blowing trip.

10. Rebuild of Evangelion 3.33: You Can (Not) Redo

Genre: Action, Sci-Fi, Mecha Length: 96 min. Studio: Khara

Set 14 years after the previous movie, this film throws everything we thought we knew about Evangelion out of the window.

The viewer is as dumbfounded as Shinji at the wreckage left by the Third Impact, and the new world of conflict that rose from its ashes.

There are new EVA units, a giant flying EVA-powered mothership commanded by Misato, and nothing makes a lick of sense.

The gorgeous, mind-bending landscapes and fluid animation blend with the genius musicalization by series veteran Shiro Sagisu to create a thoroughly enjoyable, if a bit nonsensical, experience.

9. Spirited Away

Genre: Fantasy, Adventure, Coming-of-Age Length: 125 min. Studio: Ghibli

Anyone who’s ever tried hallucinogenic stuff can tell you just how similar Spirited Away is to a psychedelic experience.

Throughout the film, Chihiro experiences a wide array of seemingly nonsensical events that are to be taken at face value.

Her parents turn into pigs, she explores the impossible geometry of Yubaba’s Bathhouse and even meets personified incarnations of stuff like a polluted river and balls of soot.

The absolute insanity and infinite creativity of some of these creatures and landscapes make one wonder whether Miyazaki ever mistook edible mushrooms in the forests of Japan for something a little bit more psychoactive.

8. Excel Saga

Genre: Comedy, Parody Length: 26 Eps. Studio: J.C. Staff

Excel Saga is a classic trippy (and profoundly offensive) anime famous for its nonsensical narrative and dark humor.

Excel and her blood-vomiting partner Hyatt are so spectacularly bad at their world-conquering job, it’s hard to believe – but the surreal happenings around them are even more unbelievable.

There are Excel & Hyatt impersonators, adorable alien invaders, politically incorrect mechas – and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Among the craziest parts of this show are the misadventures of Pedro Domingo, an illegal immigrant from Colombia suffering through a modern Odyssey.

It’s hard not to feel sympathy for this unlucky straggler, but you can’t help but laugh at the absurdity of his situation.

7. Serial Experiments Lain

Genre: Surreal, Psychological, Mystery Length: 13 Eps. Studio: Triangle Staff

Serial Experiments Lain was the first genuinely psychedelic anime I ever watched.

And needless to say, I was baffled.

Fair warning: it’s not a show for newcomers to the anime genre.

Hell, I’m not sure it’s a show for long-time fans either.

It’s as hard to understand as it is to enjoy the first time around. But once you get roped into the mind-bending flow of the series, it’s impossible to stop watching.

The show explores how humans are elevated to near-godhood by the Internet’s immense power. What does this mean for our existence? Our identity?

If you’re in the mood for complex questions and a dark storyline , don’t skip this fantastic show.

6. Tekkon Kinkreet

Genre: Adventure, Psychological, Supernatural Length: 111 min. Studio: 4°C

Tekkon Kinkreet is one of those shows that draw you in with colorful characters and beautiful backgrounds, then swipes the floor out from under your feet with a dark & tragic storyline.

On the one hand, the intricate backgrounds and fluid animation offer an almost psychedelic journey of flowing colors.

On the other, it creates a very stark contrast against the violence and cruelty of Treasure Town.

This cocktail of visual inputs and emotions is sure to make your brain short-circuit.

It makes for a remarkably memorable experience you’ll be recommending to everyone after watching it.

5. Kuuchuu Buranko

Genre: Comedy, Drama, Psychological Length: 11 Eps. Studio: Toei Animation

After so many trippy anime, you might want to visit a mental health professional to make sure everything is alright up there.

Just make sure you don’t end up at Irabu General Hospital.

Kuuchuu Buranko follows Dr. Ichiro Irabu and his dangerously charming nurse Mayumi as they “help” several unusual characters deal with their psychological issues. These range from narcissism to OCD and even include a guy who can’t stop getting erections at uncomfortable times.

The downright psychedelic animation goes hand in hand with the invariably crazy characters and their hilarious antics, starting with the doctor’s three personalities.

It’s as wild as it is entertaining.

4. Perfect Blue

Genre: Psychological, Thriller Length: 81 Min. Studio: Madhouse

Most people picture dancing pink elephants and unimaginably colorful landscapes when they hear the word “trippy”.

But sometimes, a mind-bending trip can get pretty dark.

Satoshi Kon’s Perfect Blue follows former idol Mima Kirigoe as she struggles to make a name for herself in acting.

As it often happens, some of her fans don’t like the direction her career is headed – and one of them chooses to take matters into their own hands.

Harassment will take a toll on everybody. But this stalker takes it to the next level.

Their extreme antics defy all logical explanations, slowly pushing Mima into psychosis and despair.

It’s a wild ride, but one you’ll thoroughly enjoy.

3. Cat Soup

Genre: Surreal, Psychological Length: 31 min. Studio: J.C. Staff

Have you ever had a fever so bad, it made you delirious?

That’s what Cat Soup feels like the first time you watch it.

It’s a tale of life and death starring two adorable – if cruel – cats.

There are references to the bible, unreliable narration, gruesome but deeply meaningful violence, and overall, it feels like you just did a heroic dose of magic mushrooms.

In a way, you could say the show tries to provide a childish perspective on the tragedy of life through Nyatta and his sister Nyako.

There’s a lot to unearth from this cryptic show. But it’s a fantastic experience.

2. Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure

Genre: Fantasy, Supernatural, Adventure Length: 152 Eps. Studio: David Production

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure continues to crank up the insanity through unusual characters and completely unexpected abilities.

You thought the Pillar Men were bizarre in Part 2?

Wait until stands are introduced in Part 3.

You’ll love Part 5’s stand-based mafia wars.

With crazy poses, bizarre humor, and some of the most unorthodox battles in anime history, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure reminds us that life can always get more trippy.

1. Dead Leaves

If you like colorful animation, unorthodox character design, and stratospheric body counts, Dead Leaves is for you.

This show feels like an acid trip, and it’s hard not to wonder whether the creator was on something when coming up with this surreal journey into space Guantanamo.

Retro and Pandy are fantastic main characters whose chemistry keeps this wild show together, and every supporting character has their own brand of insanity you can’t take your eyes off of.

Nonstop action, dark humor, and raunchiness galore await in this hyperviolent show.

Isekai Ojisan – 07 – Power Trip

We witness along with Takafumi and Fujimiya Ojisan’s continued misinterpreting of Elf’s words and actions (ironic considering his translation ability), accusing her of being a thief for insisting on keeping the hoodie she believe was gived to her as a gift.

That said, Elf  did give Ojisan something in return: her sparkly green dress you can bet cost a lot more than the ratty hoodie. Ojisan lets Fujimiya try it on, and Takafumi admits she looks good in it. The trio are trying to determing how Ojisan’s “Wild Talker” translation is triggered, but Fujimiya is called away on an errand.

Takafumi and Ojisan keep watching, and come upon the first time Ojisan met Alicia (Toyosaki Aki) and her party-mates Raiga and Edgar, who came to fight a horde of goblins and assumed Ojisan was one of them due to his looks. The group then teams up to fight the actual goblin horde.

That said, Alicia’s party doesn’t get to do much but watch as Ojisan puts on an amazing display of magic. Ojisan claims that playing  Golden Axe on Genesis prepared him for this fight while the opposite is true. That said, he prevails, and as the party heads to the village for their reward, Alicia takes Ojisan aside and tells him she witnessed him raising the barrier protecting Luvaldram.

Rather than trust her to keep the secret (and she says she will), he wipes her memory and those of Edgar and Raiga, ending their friendship before it could really take off. However, Ojisan soon encounters the three again, this time assuming he’s the beast they were sent to slay due to his appearance It’s not deja vu  for them since all memory of him was wiped.

When they describe the beast as a prickly hedgehog that rolls up into a ball to attack, Ojisan’s mind naturally wanders to visions of Sonic. However, the actual beast turns out to be a  biologically correct hedgehog, and thus unrecognizable to Ojisan. Worse, when he uses Wild Talker to converse, he learns the giant hedgehog is a sadistic monster, and incinerates him on the spot.

Suddenly a phone rings; Fujimiya’s phone, which she left at Takafumi’s. He enlists his uncle’s aid in flying him to Fujimiya’s college where they spot her being hassled by a skeevy looking dude. Ojisan leaves the handling of the situation to his nephew, lending him his powers for an hour, just in case.

But when Takafumi gets a better look at the red-haired menace who is all over Fujimiya, he suddenly recognizes him as her cute little brother, Chiaki…who is still in the fourth damn grade. Similarly, when Chiaki realizes it’s Takafumi, his twisted, grotesque face (a quality his older sister shared at that age) suddenly becomes flush and enthusiastic.

Chiaki looking like a skeevy twenty-year old while he’s actually Fujimiya’s fourth-grade brother is an  amazing joke that had me rolling, especially due to the consistency with which young Fujimiyas are depicted as more orc (or goblin)-like than everyone in the other world regarded Ojisan. As a little kid, he has also never heard of most of the stuff Ojisan talks to him about, once he joins the group.

When Fujimiya asks what Takafumi would have done if Chiaki  had been an adult guy flirting with her, he shows off his temporary uncle powers and makes the two of them invisible, creates two holographic decoys, then teleports them to Fujimiya’s lecture hall several stories up.

Fujimiya is impressed by how quickly Takafumi has managed to master Ojisan’s magic, and notes that this situation reminds her of when he stood up for her when she got shoved by three boys back in grade school. Takafumi decides to tap into her memories and project them as Ojisan does so they can take a look at what happened.

Naturally, things unfolded much differently than either party remembers. Fujimiya wasn’t shoved, she was the shover, and was probably going to do more had Takafumi not arrived to “rescue” her. But even though she was the instigator, Fujimiya was happy then, just as she’s happy now to know he’s got her back.

Takafumi then meets Sawa, Fujimiya’s friend since high school, who tells him Fujimiya has gotten quite popular with the guys since “becoming cuter” in the last six months. Takafumi, still drunk on Ojisan’s temporary power, demands to know the names and locations of said guys (so he can wipe all memory of Fujimiya from their heads).

This protectiveness/possessiveness and his blushing when Fujimiya leaned in to whisper to him suggest there’s  something there, but she has a long way to go to get out of the Friendzone. Back at Takafumi’s, he and Fujimiya watch as Alicia reveals herself to be the Hero, AKA “Shining Crusader”, just as I suspected she would be. I look forward to her future interactions with Ojisan.
