No one remembers how the war starts. Not really. Historians unearth parchments after the fact: they came to barter but stole the king's daughter. Someone shot some duke. Some Army massacred some unarmed minority. But what we do remember is demise. Suicides underground when you used to roam in an eagle's nest. The president, bearded, found in a hole. The rebel leader dumped at sea. No shortages of ends. And the mess that ensues. And the winners making the rules all the way to the bank. — Jam Hamidi

Iranian abgoosht is a hearty one-pot stew that has its origins in ancient Persia. It is traditionally prepared with lamb or mutton, but beef can be used in some variations. The dish also incorporates potatoes, beans, legumes, and various Iranian spices and ingredients, all cooked in a flavorful tomato-infused broth. Abgoosht is typically served in two parts. The meat, vegetables, and legumes are removed from the stock and are served separately. The broth is enjoyed first and is then followed by meat and vegetables that are usually mashed in a roughly-textured paste ( goosht kubideh ). Occasionally, the meat and vegetables can be served whole, but always separated from the broth. The rustic abgoosht, also known as dizi, is one of the most popular Iranian dishes. It is often served along with fresh herbs ( sabzi khordan ) and flatbread.

The famous Iranian tahchin is a savory rice delicacy resembling a cake or a casserole. The dish is made with precooked rice which is spiced with saffron, layered in a pan, then baked. After it has been baked, this rice casserole is turned upside down and cut into pieces. The dish is usually improved by the addition of meat or vegetables, which are layered between the rice. However, it can also be baked without any additional fillings. Numerous tahchin varieties can be found all over Iran in many traditional Iranian restaurants or at popular bazaars. With its unique yellow color and shape, the dish has an unusual appearance and can be further decorated with red barberries or pistachios. Tahchin is one of the favorite dishes among Iranians, and it is traditionally served on special and formal occasions. It is usually eaten as the main dish, while a generous portion of yogurt is usually served on the side.

Chelow kebab consists of fragrant, saffron-spiced rice, grilled tomatoes, and kebab, which can be prepared with minced or sliced meat. It is believed that the dish originated among the Caucasian people, who passed down the recipe to the Iranians. The serving of chelow kebab is a unique experience: rice and tomatoes are served first, followed by meat, while the final touch is a dollop of butter that is placed on the top of saffron rice. The dish is commonly enriched with sumac, a spice native to the Middle Eastern area, and is best paired with doogh—Persian sour yogurt.

Ghormeh sabzi.

safari restaurant tehran photos

Ghormeh sabzi is an Iranian herb stew, commonly eaten everywhere in Iran and considered to be the national dish of the country. Although there are numerous ways to prepare the dish, the essential ingredient is a combination of fried herbs, usually made with chopped parsley, cilantro, and chives. Other varieties occasionally include greens such as leeks, kale, or spinach, which give the dish its dark green color and rich, pungent flavors. These essential ingredients are incorporated with kidney beans and cubed meat (most commonly lamb) to create a rich and dense stew. The dish is traditionally served in a bowl and eaten with a knife and fork. Traditional Persian rice, known as polo , is usually served alongside ghormeh sabzi. The rice is boiled and steamed, resulting in an incredibly soft and mild side dish, and a perfect complement to this flavorful stew. Even though it is considered a traditional Iranian dish, ghormeh sabzi is also commonly eaten in the neighboring Azerbaijan.

Tourists slammed for posing naked in popular desert spot: ‘very sickening’.

They de-nude-ed the landscape.

Another day, another instance of tourists disrespecting a landmark.

This time, foreign sightseers angered Namibian authorities after posing naked atop the legendary Big Daddy Dune in the Namib Desert, as seen in photos circulating on social media .

“It is very sickening and it really [creates] a bad image for Namibia,” Kenneth Nependa, vice-chairperson of the Federation of Namibian Tourism Associations, told the Namibian Sun, the BBC reported.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by The Namibian (@thenamibian)

He added that these antics risked attracting tourists who think that “anything goes” in the southern African nation.

Accompanying footage and video, snapped by an unknown source, shows the unnamed trio strutting about in their birthday suits atop the over 1,000-foot-tall sand mound, which is reportedly popular with families.

Visitors didn’t appreciate the tourists treating the scenic site like a nude beach and called on tourism officials to take action against the crass culprits.

Authorities haven’t yet publicly identified the sandy stripteasers, who allegedly left Namibia by the time authorities received the reports.

Tourists on a dune.

However, the nudists could be banned from entering the country’s parks, according to tourism ministers, who added that the “extremely shocking” act was public indecency and therefore punishable by local law.

In light of the indecent incident, officials are calling on visitors to report violators to authorities so they can deal with them accordingly.

“We appeal to that section of tourists to summon the conscience so that they do the right things,” declared Romeo Muyunda, a spokesperson for the ministry of environment, forestry and tourism.

However, many social media users disagreed that the incident was problematic.

“Why are they in trouble? They bothered no one,” an X user declared, according to the BBC, while another claimed that there is “nothing wrong with sunbathing.”

Big Daddy is one of the three largest dunes in Namibia’s Namib-Naukluft National Park and is a popular destination among sightseers looking to get a picturesque view from its crest.

Location and contact.

the place is the landmark and a symbol of Kebab in Tehran , gets very packed on weekends so make sure about reservation , you can go on weekdays which is not as busy . there are 3 floors which serves food, there is a... good variety of buffet to choose from , salad bar is great . as kebabs we tried Barg Kebab and koobide and shishlik it was well cooked and tasty. very attentive and nice staff, little bit of English speaking. live piano playing and energetic ambience. its pricey but should be tried . More

I ate there a few times it’s to die for. Try joje Kabab, and Fesnjon stew, less than $15 US. Very clean and it’s a very relaxing place to go have some real homemade Iranian food.

One of the best traditional food (Kabab) resturants in Tehran. Good quality of food and services, as well as dessert and place. Unfortunately there are issues: 1. Lack of parking 2. Need for reservation to be served fast. The prices are more affordable for foreigners.

The restaurant is most famous for its 1-meter (~3-foot) kebabs (Koubideh). The other types of kebabs they serve are also delish. I wouldn’t try the other dishes they serve there (other than the kebabs) because they are not worth the price; it’s an expensive restaurant.... I have only dined at their Sohrevardi branch, but have heard the food in Vali-e Asr branch does not keep up with Alborz quality. Having to wait for a free table is not something I would want to do before a meal as it is a case when you go to Alborz. More

it's a famous restaurant in IRAN because have Iranian food ( chello kebab ) that is an iranian foods that has include rice and meat ( barg , koubideh and etc. .... ) but it is very Expensive

I am an Iranian and I can tell you can eat one of the best CHELO-KABABs in this restaurant. ( Chelo-Kabab is a traditional iranian food which its main ingredients are Kabab and Rice!) I have been eating Chelo-Kabab since childhood and trust me this... restaurant provides the best of it but it comes in second rate comparing to Chelo-Kabab that my mom cooks! :)) ... There are another similar restaurants in Tehran too but this one has no branches and maybe is the most famous or at least one the bests! ... More

I used to go to this restaurant regularly for more many years, all the foods were so tasty and perfect. The kabab was their specialty, however since about five years ago the quality of the kabab declined, maybe the management changed, kabab became so average,... we tried it for couple of occasions but no , it is not the old albroz any more, I wasn’t willing to pay so much and go so far for an average food. Alborz was over for me. Too bad, so disappointed, it was the best place to go or take your guests from overseas to alborz and you were certain that they will have the best kabab but it is not the best and more but just average. It is not me , there used to be a big line to get in the restaurant on Fridays for lunch , it was so popular but many people felt the same and alborz definitely is not the best kabab restaurant any more. The atmosphere is nice and the waiters are polite and the temperature inside is always nice. More

Last time we went and ate there we got very disappointed. Kebab was absolutely normal if not worse and the price was so high. Don´t recommend it to anyone, its only famous but there are hundreds of better restaurants in Tehran with much lower prices.

We read the review and booked a table for dinner!!! the dinner room is very light and not cozy at all!! Directly they put all kind of drinks mainly can on the table!! What I expect to find in a cheap eatery but not whatmis... suppose to be one of the best restaurants!! Also they put us two fresh juices whatwe drank, but we had no clue if we would be charged for them or not!! But is was complimentary!! Then they put soup in front of us!!! Nothing special but that was also comlimentary!!! They do not have a lot of choices on the menu card!! All grilled meats nearly, we each choose something different !! What they did not have!! We.compromised for chicken and beef!! The chicken was perfectly grilled, but I could have ordered anywhere for a quarter of the price!!! The beef was tender nut not grilled well!! And the piece costed about 27 dollar!!! What is for Iran very expensive!!! Dimmer was over in 45 min from entering to finishing!!! So if you are in a hurry and you do not mind that you have to eat what is avaiable!! This is the place for you!!! More

The best in tehran. Was very modern and clean. Food, salad, desert were perfect. Price was good. Location was very good....

Me and a friend of mine were there to have something, we ordered and after a few minutes we got our dishes. When I wanted to try it I saw a thread of hair on my plate which disgusted me. I told them and kindly... (as they should) changed the serve. I've had many kebabs in Iran and I gotta admit that compared with the prices of this restaurant, the quality of the meat was poor, don't get me wrong I'm willing to pay a high dollar for a fine food, but this one was ridiculous. When we visit this restaurant we are told that it is one of the best in traditional Iranian food. OK, it is good and expensive but do not expect something special. Most likely you have to visit it to have your own opinion

i had dinner in alborz 10 years ago. we say basketball play dear. i had wonder full time their. the food was delicious and expensive but it was fit with what you get. 1 year ago l where there with my husband for our ceremony.... i will not go there another time. in new experience the bring for you some drink as you entrance. i thought, like other restaurant, it is welcome drink but at the end it was in our bill. they take everything to account without explaining it at the first. The volume of food was smaller than old time. (that time, one food was enough for to person. ) with that price you can enjoy another place with more comfortable experience. More

chelokabab is now the symbolic food to order in Iran although it is less than 2 centuries old. This consists of barbequed and skewered pieces of meat called barg or skewered minced meat called koobideh. There are other mixtures, but the main ones are these... two. All combinations come with rice and barbequed tomatoes and sometimes with barbequed pepper. the main spice that is used is sumac. the traditional drink is doogh, a mixture of yoghurt with water and spices, mainly mint. this is called ayran in Turkey. Chelokabab was "invented" by a person called nayeb ol doleh who used to cook for nassereddin shah (a qajar king) circa 125 years ago. after he left the court, he started his own business and was quite successful. originally you paid upon entrance and could eat all you wanted, but this changed a long time ago. Alborz is a very famous restaurant in tehran, but it is just for bragging that I have been there, there are many fine and cheaper places to have chelokabab. More

Great restaurant from many perspectives, i.e., the food, salad bar, interior and service. If I want to recommend one restaurant for eating Kebab definitely my option is Alborz. I love the salad bar, the vegetable are so fresh. Enjoy Iranian Kebab ;)
