16 Eiffel Tower Replicas Located Outside of Paris
By Nick Mafi
Ask anyone if they know where the Eiffel Tower is located and they will likely scoff as they say the French capital. Ask them where another version of the Eiffel Tower exists and they will undoubtedly look at you with a confused expression. Of course, everyone knows of the Eiffel Tower in Paris because it's among the most iconic landmarks on the planet , with roughly 7 million people visiting the 1,063-foot tall structure each year. And it's precisely because of its famous design that so many iterations have been made—a little more than 50, to be exact. And while they all don't exactly mirror Gustave Eiffel's dream, they all contain a similar DNA, namely the grillwork arches with which the original has become synonymous. Here, AD rounds up 16 Eiffel Tower replicas around the world that were not only built after the original was completed in 1889, but were inspired by it as well.
Tianducheng, China
Located in Tianducheng, China is a suburban sprawl that features a shockingly similar architectural resemblance to Paris . Which, of course, means they had to build their very own version of the Eiffel Tower.
Tokyo, Japan
Completed in 1958, Japan's Tokyo Tower soars nearly 2,000 feet in the sky (making it almost 1,000 feet taller than the real Eiffel Tower). Much like its French cousin, the Tokyo Tower has come to define its city skyline.
Las Vegas, Nevada
Las Vegas's iconic strip wouldn't be complete without its own iteration of the Eiffel Tower, which is part of the Paris Las Vegas, a hotel and casino. Opened in 1999 and spanning some 540 feet, the structure is about half the size of the real tower in the French capital city.
Paris, Texas
A red cowboy hat adorns the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Texas. Dubbed the Texas Eiffel Tower, the structure was completed in 1993.

Berlin, Germany
The Funkturm Berlin (foreground), which was finished in 1926, was designed by German architect Heinrich Straumer. And while it wasn't built by the engineer Gustave Eiffel, it surely was influenced by the structure that was erected in Paris nearly four decades prior.
Shenzhen, China
Located in Shenzhen, China (a city in the southern part of the country near Hong Kong), is another replica of the Eiffel Tower. This one, however, is situated along the Pearl River Delta. The structure is part of Window of the World, a theme park that also features miniature versions of the pyramids in Giza and the Taj Mahal.
Lyon, France
Dubbed the Metallic Tower of Fourvière, the steel structure looks strikingly similar to the actual Eiffel Tower in Paris (which is situated some 290 miles to the southeast of Lyon). While the tower was completed in 1894, it waited nearly two decades before making its international debut at the Exposition Universelle of 1914 in Lyon.
Lahore, Pakistan
It might surprise some people to know that Lahore, Pakistan, has its very own Eiffel Tower replica.
Gómez Palacio, Durango, Mexico
Located in Gómez Palacio (a city that's roughly 215 miles due east of Monterrey) is Mexico's iteration of the Eiffel Tower. The structure is roughly one-sixth the size of the actual tower in Paris.
Slobozia, Romania
A replica of the Eiffel Tower has found its way to Slobozia, a small city in eastern Romania. The structure, which is roughly 177 feet tall, is located on private lands, and was built using the funds of a Romanian billionaire.
Sydney, Australia
Sydney's AWA tower doesn't look too out of the ordinary today, but when it was competed in 1939, the structure completely remade the city's skyline.
Sofia, Bulgaria
Located in an area known as Little Paris, the replica of the Eiffel Tower near Sofia, Bulgaria, features a restaurant about one-third of the way up the building. Standing some 105 feet in the air, the tower is about one-tenth the height of the actual structure.
Filiatra, Greece
The tiny town of Filiatra, Greece (roughly 173 miles southwest of Athens), is home to a 85-foot tall iteration of the Eiffel Tower. The structure was designed by the Greek doctor and sculptor Harris Fournarakis.
Epcot, Bay Lake, Florida
Opened in 1982, Epcot at Walt Disney World features its own version of the Eiffel Tower. Located in the section of the park dedicated to French culture, the structure is roughly 103 feet tall.
Fes, Morocco
Built to symbolize the friendship between France and Morocco, this Eiffel Tower replica is located in the city of Fes.
Guatemala City, Guatemala
Guatemala City's version of the Eiffel Tower (which is dubbed Torre del Reformador) spans across a street in the Guatemalan capital. Completed in 1935, the structure is 236 feet tall.

A Paris icon in the Peloponnese
The 26-meter Eiffel Tower replica at Filiatra was a surprising sight we encountered during our road trip in the Peloponnese
~ updated on August 4 2018 ~
Oh Mon Dieu !:The most memorable “Stop the Car!” moment of our road trip through Messenia happened while we were driving through the small town of Filiatra, en route from Marathopoli to Kyparissia.
As the car moved along the clean, tidy streets, passing attractive stone houses and some cute small homes, we were chatting about where we might want to stay if we ever had an opportunity to spend all or part of a year in Greece. I remember commenting that Filiatra looked like a nice, comfortable and quiet place that might be suitable — based on what we were seeing through the car windows, at least.
Then we turned a corner and saw an Eiffel Tower looming up ahead.
“What the … Is that what I think it is?” I blurted. “Pull over! We’ve got to check this out!”
This Google Streetview image shows the Eiffel Tower replica in a wedge-shaped parkette at the northern entrance to Filiatra.
Whenever we’re on the road in Greece, we see a lot of surprising, interesting and exciting sights. However, most of the time it’s jaw-dropping scenery that suddenly pops into view, a picturesque church in the middle of nowhere, a crumbling castle or a beautiful old building, or a herd of sheep or goats gathered on the highway. We’ve seen plenty of unusual sights, too, but never anything like an Eiffel Tower — and we certainly weren’t expecting to see one on this particular morning. (It had not been mentioned in any of the travel materials I had read before our holiday.)
But there it was, rising from a landscaped parkette near the northern entrance to Filiatra on Highway 9.
We parked the car and got out for a few minutes to take photos, but it wasn’t until we were back home that I was able to do some online searching to find out why the town has a replica of the iconic Eiffel Tower.
Information was rather sparse or roughly translated in the sources I discovered, but most said the replica was the creation of Harry Fournier, (originally named Haris Fournarakis), who had grown up in the area but later moved to the USA to practise medicine as a surgeon. After a successful career in the States, Fournier returned to Filiatra and put his artistic talents to work, sculpting his mini Eiffel Tower in the 1960s. (He also built a fairytale castle in the nearby village of Agrili.)
Fournier’s creation isn’t a true replica, however, since its design differs in a few major details. As an article on the Wonders of the World points out, Fournier used light grey metal to construct the tower, which he shaped “a little too long.” Fournier also placed the second floor of his tower too low, compared to the original, and changed the shape of the third floor. But to a tourist driving by, Fournier’s version looks like a convincing, shorter copy of the real thing (his stands 26 meters, while the Paris landmark soars over 300 meters high).

Here are some of the photos we took of the Filiatra Eiffel Tower:
The small town of Filiatra is located roughly midway between Marathopoli (middle left) and Kyparissia (top left). If you’re driving through the area and want to take a look at the Eiffel Tower replica, you’ll find it at the northwest edge of the town along Highway 9. You can’t miss it if you’re driving toward Filiatra from Kyparissia — the tower is visible from a distance outside the town.

Where to find the Eiffel Tower in Greece

Travel tips for filiatra.
You’ve read it right. Yes, Paris is not the only place where you can admire and take pictures with the iconic french landmark, the Eiffel tower. Greece has its own too! Surprised?
Imagine driving through Peloponnese and suddenly see the Eiffel Tower . "Wait, what? Is that what I think it is?" …you might think.
Only a few kilometres outside the city of Kalamata , in a small city called Filiatra, you can in fact admire an impressive replica of the Eiffel Tower . The 26-meter Eiffel Tower located exactly at the entrance of the city, usually catches its visitors by surprise. Of course, the replica is way smaller than the original and it was built by the funding and the initiative of the local expatriate doctor Haralampos Fournarakis.

Filiatra's Eiffer Tower
Who would expect seeing the Eiffel tower in such a small city while driving in Greece? It’s a fact that whenever you’re on the road in Greece, you might see a lot of surprising, interesting and exciting sights. However, seeing the Eiffel tower in the middle of nowhere is actually a jaw-dropping scenery that suddenly pops into your view. Stop the car, it’s time for some pictures!
What to do around
Filiatra could be a great starting point to visit plenty of beautiful places, like for example the village of Agia Kyriaki . Located at a distance of 4 km from Filiatra , here you will be able to try fresh fish in the seaside fish tavernas overlooking the traditional fishing boats. At the same time, at about 6,7km north of Filiatra you will find the picturesque village of Agrili. I'd suggest you visiting the wonderful “Castle of Fairytales” and also enjoying swimming in the nearby sandy coast. The “Castle of Fairytales" is said to be one of the most remarkable sights of the area, given the fact that the over-sized statues of Poseidon, Athena and the replica of the ship Argo dominate within the yard, while stories and events from Greek mythology unfold within the castle.

The Castle of Fairytales
The castle of Kalamata
At the same time, a visit at the picturesque capital of Messenia , Kalamata , is simply a must-do, while at the area. I’d say that the area covers and combines more or less all the tastes; whether you are a worshiper of the mountains or a sea passionate, a lone or a group traveler, Messenia has probably what you’re looking for and guarantees an unforgettable holiday experience!

Copies of the Eiffel tower in Greece
Replica of Filiatra
Replica of the Eiffel tower at Filiatra (Greece)
The village of Filiatra, near Messinia, is known for its copy of the Eiffel Tower. It's in the Peloponnese, Greece. The tower is at the entrance. It is 18m high, making it a 1:20 replica. It was built in the 60's and since then it has been enthroned at its location.
Aesthetically, one might think at first glance that it is quite consistent with the original, but something is wrong anyway. In fact, there are a few things that are wrong, the most important probably being that it looks more like a pylon than a Replica of the Eiffel Tower, it's due to both its light gray metal and to its shape, a little too long. This extension is reinforced by the fact that the 2nd floor is quite low, on the original tower it is higher, which breaks the height. The third floor, then, is very simplistic. It is made of a metal disk while the real tower offers a cube. Finally the first 2 floors are rather strange, as if it was a kind of balcony.
If at first you feel like you're dealing with a rather successful copy, this replica is actually quite different from the original, but because of a series of details.
