But Zambales is more than that. On its vast and varied landscapes lie numerous destinations to satisfy your quest for nature, culture, and history.

From hiking, cave spelunking, and forest bathing to diving, snorkeling, and sunbathing…there’s just endless fun and exploration to do here. It’s more fun in Zambales indeed.

Without further ado, here are the must-see ecotourism destinations in Zambales.

1. Anawangin Cove

Anawangin Cove is one of the rising tourist spots in Zambales, owing to its pristine and rustic condition. Bare mountains shelter the bay. The beach is ash-colored as a result of the Mt. Pinatubo volcanic eruption.

Towering Agoho trees surround the bay, giving it a verdant view. Both locals and foreign tourists love camping here. A river with crystal-clear waters flows to the bay.

2. Mt. Tapulao

Mt. Tapulao is one of the famous hiking tourist spots in Zambales and is the highest mountain in the province. It stands at more than 6,683 feet (2,037m) above sea level, making it colder than Baguio City.

It hosts century-old pines called Tapulao, thus, the name of the mountain. Mossy forests also abound including Bonsai vegetation. Hikers will feel like time is standing still when they come here.

Different wildlife species such as deer, warty pigs, lizards, and civet cats thrive in the mountain.

Expect to trail on dense vegetation and steep terrains, thus, the mountain is only recommended to seasoned hikers.

3. Botolan Resettlement Sites

This is one of the sites to catch one of the best views of Mt. Pinatubo’s crater. Aetas indigenous groups who were displaced during the 1991 Mt. Pinatubo eruption, live here.

Today, it’s a venue for appreciating the beauty of the mountain and learning the culture of the Aetas. The site is one of the recognized cultural tourist spots in Botolan, Zambales.

Since its inhabitants are Aetas, tourists should be aware that there are cultural sensitivities to consider. In other words, refrain from uttering words or doing things that can offend the local tribe.

4. Baloc-Baloc Cave

5. Capones Island

Capones Island is one of the most popular tourist spots in Zambales. Called “Isla de Gran Capon” during the Spanish period, the island features a pebbled beach with white sands.

A historical lighthouse stands on one of the sharp cliff edges of the island. Don’t hesitate to ask your guide since there are a lot of fascinating stories about this landmark.

6. Fort Paynauen

7. Nagsasa Cove

15. El Kabayo Waterfalls

El Kabayo Falls has two layers, the first one measuring 15 feet while the second layer is 4 feet high. Both have natural pools where you can have a refreshing bath.

It takes quite a challenging trek on forested terrains before one can finally catch sight of the said waterfall.

16. Alwasan Lanum Cave

Alwasan Lanum Cave means “water outflow,” featuring a concave fissure on the face of a mountain. Aside from stunning rock formations, you’ll find a beautiful waterfall inside the cave.

A pristine stream flows out from the cave and it thrives with shrimps, eels, and many other types of small fish. It’s one of the most preserved tourist spots in Zambales.

19. Bucao River

Bucao River is one of the rivers emanating from the slopes of Mt. Pinatubo. Lahar and volcanic materials, however, cover the river as a result of the said volcano’s eruption. It is one of the sights to see when trekking to the said mountain.

20. Mt. Pinatubo

Mt. Pinatubo is perhaps among the most iconic tourist spots in Zambales, shared with the provinces of Tarlac and Pampanga. Its eruption in 1991 is considered one of the largest and most violent in the 20 th century.

Dense forests used to cover the mountain but now, most of these are totally ravaged. Aetas used to live in the forested slopes of Mt. Pinatubo.

Ah, are you feeling the summer vibes too? Well, I can’t blame you! After being stuck at home due to the series of lockdowns and community quarantines, we now have a chance to get out and explore the beautiful tropical paradise of the Philippines. (While still following health and safety protocols, of course) So now that the summer season is upon us, where should we go?

Hmm, should we go to Boracay ? Puerto Galera? Or Palawan? Well, how about let’s try and explore the breathtaking province of Zambales? That’s right! Zambales is one of the most beautiful beach destinations in the country and known for being blessed with deep blue pristine waters, stunning islands, and sandy beaches. It’s also the go-to beach destination for people living in Metro Manila because it only takes about 4 to 5 hours of travel time to reach it! There are also countless exciting activities to look forward to here in Zambales such as hiking, cliff diving, extreme water sports activities, and the currently trending glamping sites as well.

Zambales also has an exciting food culture because of its abundant supply of seafood which allows tourists to enjoy unique gastronomic adventures during their visit! See? 1. Magalawa Island

Number one on the list is a hidden paradise situated in the coastal town of Palauig , Zambales, and is absolutely one of the most underrated island destinations in the whole province. Magalawa Island is only accessible via a 10-minute boat ride from the nearby port. But trust me, once you reach this breathtaking island, you’ll be enchanted by its creamy white sands, crystal clear waters, long lines of towering coconut trees, and a heavenly and peaceful environment. It’s such a beautiful escape from all the hustle and bustle of the city!

The whole of Magalawa Island covers a huge area of 56 hectares and is surrounded by fishing communities. So aside from enjoying the sea and its majestic features, I’m 100% sure that you’ll also have a gastronomic feast during your stay! 2. Anawangin Cove

Probably the most famous island destination in Zambales is the one and only Anawangin Cove. Capones Island, on the other hand, has been an iconic tourist destination that was discovered way back during the Spanish Colonial Era. It’s also located near Pundaquit and is known for its bone-shaped coastline, white sands, rocky shores, and turquoise waters. It also goes by the name “Isla de Gran Capon” which was established by the Spaniards during their time. Aside from swimming and beach bumming, you can also get the chance to witness the rich marine and aquatic life beneath the island by snorkeling and scuba diving!

But what really makes Capones Island extra special is its remote and secluded ambiance because there are virtually no structures around the island aside from an old iconic Spanish lighthouse, Faro de Punta Capones. This antique brick lighthouse was built in the year 1890 and undoubtedly paints a dramatic picture of the stunning Capones Island around it. I suggest that you take lots of memorable pictures here while you have the chance!

10. Camara Island

Another underrated and hidden sanctuary of colorful fishes and corals is the Camara Island of Pundaquit. With its creamy white sand beach, turquoise waters, and enormous rock formations, I’m sure that you’ll get the tropical paradise vibes here on this island. It’s only about 15 minutes away from the nearest port of Pundaquit.

It’s usually part of the island hopping tour in Zambales which is composed of other famous islands and coves like Anawangin, Talisayen, and Nagsasa. Be sure to take some awesome pictures around!

11. Inflatable Island Subic

The famous Inflatable Island of Subic, Zambales is an enormous waterpark covering an area of 4,200 square meters and is filled with exciting and action-packed attractions like water towers, inflatable slides, swings, and human launchers, long bridges, and many more! This inspiring wildlife sanctuary was founded by Martin and Juvy Zooler, a family of zoologists from Switzerland. The farms serve as the wonderful habitat of several rare species of animals like tigers, peacocks, ostriches, and many more! The farm takes good care of these animals and also gives people a chance to meet them, beautiful creatures, up close. It’s really an unforgettable experience, especially for children! November to May is typically the dry season, where it's enjoyable to go island hopping in the Philippines and do all sorts of water sports and activities. December might be densely crowded due to the holidays. The breeze is a bit cooler around January to February, which also means the sun doesn't feel as harsh during this time.

April and May are peak summer seasons, which also spell out large crowds. If you're not a fan of having a lot of people at the beach on your trip, consider booking an exclusive resort or go on a different month.

May to October is the wet season. Although, it doesn't rain every day, so it's still worth checking out forecasts for a more accurate picture of weather conditions around this time.

If you want to go surfing, however, you should visit during these months. The waves are much better at San Narciso, Zambales, which is good news for beginner to pro level surfers anywhere.

Crowds are thinner too, and hotels sometimes lower their rates during the so-called "off-peak" season.

By Private Car

One of the most convenient ways to reach the Zambales proper is via a private car or hire a van. You can use the Waze app to guide you through the best roads to pass by for the least amount of time possible.

It usually takes around three hours to get here from Manila. Expect an extended drive if the traffic is heavy, or if you're going to a further part of the province.

You can also stop by to ask the locals for directions, or get yourself a Zambales map to get a better overview of your trip.

Catch Victory Liner buses from Manila and research the closest terminals near you. The two most popular ones are Cubao, Quezon City (northern part of Metro Manila) or Pasay City (closer to NAIA).

Take the one that's bound for Olongapo. The trip will last around four hours. If you're going to San Antonio, you can take a 40-minute bus ride from Olongapo when you alight.

If you're coming from the Clark International Airport (CIA) from other parts of the Philippines or the globe, these will be your preferred travel options:

Similar to driving from Manila, you can check the Waze app to help you get to the Olongapo or Subic town proper. It should only take you a 45-minute drive as Clark Airport is already in the northern part of Zambales. You may also get by with the help of locals since you're already in their territory.

At Clark, head for the Dau bus terminal in Angeles City. It's 15 minutes away from Clark Airport. There are buses there that are bound for Olongapo as well.

It should take roughly one to two hours, depending on the traffic. If the buses are full, there are vans available to take you to the same destination. The travel time is roughly the same, if not faster since it won't have as many multiple stops.

If you're going to visit Subic in particular, or if your hotel will be located there, you can go here straight from Clark. Victory Liner has a schedule of bus rides that will take you right from the airport to Subic or Olongapo.

It will take approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes. These buses leave on time regardless if it's full, so make sure to catch the ride at the time most convenient for you.

Zambales: The Wreck Diving Capital of the Philippines

When people speak of a notable wreck diving site in the Philippines, many would probably point to Coron around Palawan, with the bay itself being home to the sunken Japanese ships that remain in its depths still. But little did some of us know that the title of the “wreck diving capital of the Philippines” lies somewhere northern, particularly within Central Luzon and faces the West Philippine Sea—the province of Zambales.

Zambales, a province a few hours away from the capital city of Manila, owned the title simply because of the number of wreck diving sites that surround its waters, essentially beating Coron and elsewhere by a handful. Most of the province’s wreck sites are concentrated around the Subic area which has been formerly the site of one of the largest naval bases that were operated by the Americans.

According to history, the waters around Subic were the host to as much as 25 Japanese ships that were sunk during World War 2, but a good number of which salvaged soon after to pave way for commerce involving shipping. Although mostly based on hearsay, it is believed that at least 10 ships remain underseas of Subic. But this is not counting still the many other sea vessels, both small and big alike, that were consumed by Zambales’ sea even before the second world war broke out.

However, being a place with so many wreck sites does not necessarily insinuate that the locations are up to par with the best experience. Although there is a few that may seem magical for most people’s taste, a big portion of the sites may seem stale for their lack of marine life and quality of visibility.

Furthermore, the shores around Subic, which is a region at the lower end of the province, are themselves not particularly at the same level as the beaches around the Visayas and Mindanao areas which are known for their pristine, blue or turquoise, waters as well as fine white sands.

But choose to venture further north, particularly around the town of San Antonio, and you bring yourself to some of the province’s best locations, involving coves and islands offshore.

Zambales is a popular getaway destination because of its proximity and accessibility from Metro Manila and nearby cities. It provides visitors with beautiful beaches, stunning views of coves, outdoor experiences, and affordable destinations. There are many buses that travel from stations in Manila to different parts of the province – the fare will vary depending on the terminal where you will depart and the terminal where you choose to be dropped off.

If you’re planning to visit the province, here are some of the things to do and places of interest to include in your itinerary.

The devastation caused by Pinatubo’s eruption more than a decade ago has left permanent scars on the provinces near it. Fast forward to today, the slumbering volcano is now a popular tourist destination. Pictures of its stunning crater lake have attracted thousands of tourists. Your trip begins with a 4×4 ride through rugged and bumpy dirt roads, streams and lahar-carved surroundings.

After the ride, you’ll have to trek for a couple of hours through mostly flat surfaces before you reach the lake. The spectacular views and the azure-tinged waters will immediately revitalize your tired body and aching muscles. You can have a picnic here with the crater as your backdrop before returning to the jump-off point. There are several day tours from Manila, but you can manage to DIY. However, if you choose go on your own, start early.

One of the reasons Zambales is popular is because of island-hopping. You can visit a handful of beautiful islands with stunning bird’s eye views of the coves. The usual destinations include Capones Island , Nagsasa Cove, and Anawangin Cove. These spots may not have the powdery, white shores of beaches you’ll find in Palawan, but they are beautiful in their own way.

Anawangin and Nagsasa both have viewpoints where you can go up to see the iconic views of their respective coves. Do the usual beach activities in any of the three islands such as swimming, sunbathing and camping. Boat rates vary depending on destinations you want to be included in the itinerary.

For a recent island-hopping daytrip, we were charged P3500 for two people. You can also pitch tents for a fee in both Anawangin and Nagsasa.

If you’re outdoorsy in search of adventure, take your bike with you to Subic. The city can serve as your jump-off point to the province’s ascending and descending hills, flat plains, and serpentine roads. Follow Mt. Samat’s and Pastolan’s trails to break out a sweat and enjoy the views along the way.

Chill on Potipot Island

For those who don’t want to do much during their visit, Potipot Island is the place to be. It only takes 15 minutes by boat from Candelaria, Zambales to reach this small but beautiful islet. You can easily explore Potipot because of its size. Wade in the waters, work on your tan, throw a Frisbee for a couple of rounds or so, take photos and just enjoy your stay. To get here, board a bus bound for Sta. Cruz, Zambales from Metro Manila. Tell the conductor you’ll alight at the barangay hall of Uacon. Then hire a tricycle to take you to the beach where the boats that can take you to the island are docked.

If you want to rough it out and spend a night under a blanket of stars, go camping on one of the islands of Zambales. Anawangin Cove is a popular camping spot. It has a hill you can climb to get overlooking views of the island. There are also dedicated areas where you can pitch a tent. There’s an overnight fee of P100 and tent rental for P500.

Zambales is also a possible surfing destination for those who want to try a new activity or hone their skills on a surfboard. The easiest place to do this is at Crystal Beach Resort’s shore. The waves are manageable for beginners and enough for surfers with experience.

You can find the Quicksilver Surf Camp near the resort’s shore. Surfing lessons go for P600 while board rentals go for P200.

Where to Stay in Zambales

Zambales is a developed tourist destination with plenty of accommodation options. San Antonio , San Narciso , and San Felipe are possible places to stay because of the choices you have, and their proximity to the beach and transportation. You can go camping on one of the coves, either in Anawangin or Nagsasa.

Iba is another place to consider because of its nearness to the beach as well as its slew of resorts and guesthouses to choose from. Subic also provides many hotels for budget travelers and those who are willing to spend. The area also has plenty of shopping and dining options.

10 Exciting Things to Do in SAN ANTONIO, ZAMBALES

Of the many beach destinations near Manila, the town of San Antonio, Zambales, probably has the most fascinating character.

“We used to own a piece of beachfront property in one of the coves many decades ago,” our boatman Randy shared as our boat zoomed past the waves. “My parents sold them for a piece of land in Pundaquit.” There was a bit of regret in his voice. Regret might not be the right word for it as the Tagalog term panghihinayang best captures the feeling. They didn’t know the place would be transformed dramatically into a profitable tourist destination.

Since the cataclysmic eruption of nearby Mt. Pinatubo in 1991, the rocky coastline of San Antonio has undergone a metamorphosis. It is now blanketed with thick volcanic ash that created white beaches, something many tourists are wildly attracted to. Agoho trees, a type of casuarina, have grown inland, fostering an irresistible charm. When Anawangin caught the attention of the first tourists who “rediscovered” the beach a decade ago, the municipality of San Antonio was never the same again. Tourism has become a major livelihood option.

Many visitors gracing the town with their presence have only one thing in mind when they come: Anawangin Cove. But there are many other attractions in the area. Here are 10 things you can do in San Antonio.

WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS GUIDE?

1. Beach-hop!

Beach hopping is probably the primary reason you’ll consider a visit to this town. Anawangin is just one of the many secluded coves of San Antonio. Nagsasa has become a popular alternative as Anawangin continues to entertain hordes of tourists. Nagsasa is bigger and has a much picturesque landscape, albeit a bit farther. Both have ashen beaches and a well-worn trail to a viewpoint that offers a fantastic panoramic view of the coves.

Talisayen Cove is also a good option. Silanguin Cove is the most distant of all beaches and its beach isn’t ashen. But these two alternatives offer a much quieter, more relaxing experience.

2. Trek to the beaches!

While boat tours are the most popular form of transportation, the beaches can also be accessed by a long trek over the mountains. Anawangin Cove can be reached after a 4-5-hour hike over Mt. Pundaquit (Jump-off point: Pundaquit), while Nagsasa after a 5-6-trek over Mt. Nagsasa from Sitio San Martin, Subic.

3. Sample pinoy kakanin at San Antonio Market.

On your way to the beaches (before the tour), you might want to pay a visit to the town’s public market to shop for food especially if you’re staying there overnight. While you’re at it, drop by the section of the pinoy kakanin section of the market and grab some sapin-sapin, suman, nilupak, and more!

4. Camp out!

There are plenty of accommodations in Pundaquit, but camping is the best way to experience the back-to-basics vibe of the place. Anawangin in particular morphs into a tent town especially during peak season. There are restrooms around (might not be for the picky ones). But make sure you have bring food.

5. Take a dip at Nagsasa Falls.

Half an hour away from the shore of Nagsasa is a small cascade. It’s not much for a waterfall, but its cold freshwater offers a refreshing soak after a whole morning of swimming and basking in the sun! You will probably need a local guide if you’re a first-timer. Fee is P30 per person.

6. Watch the stars.

With not much light to block your view of the skies, do not let the night pass without a good look at the stars. (You won’t see this as many stars in Manila!) If you own a smartphone, you might want to install Google SkyMap (Android) or GoSkyWatch (iPhone/iPad) for a better stargazing experience.

7. Climb to the top of Capones Lighthouse.

The Capones Island Lighthouse is a historic beacon perched atop a cliff. Together with Camara Island, it is a popular island-hopping sidetrip destination. Visitors may enter the building and climb to the top of the tower. The lighthouse guides vessels to and from Subic Bay and Corregidor. Rocky Camara Island, just opposite Capones, is also a good stopover on your way back to Pundaquit.

8. Go fishing!

Fishing tours have taken form in Pundaquit as a separate activity or as an add-on to the island-hopping tours. The waters surrounding San Antonio are brutal, but it is also incredibly bountiful. You may opt to fish on your way to the beaches. Just tell your boatman beforehand.

9. Catch the sunset.

San Antonio faces the rough West Philippine Sea. You can catch the glorious Zambales sunset, which is especially magnificent from Pundaquit Beach where the sun could be seen diving in between the silhouettes of the islands of Capones and Camara.

10. Admire the town’s cultural heritage at Casa San Miguel.

Casa San Miguel aims to showcase the musical, artistic, and cultural heritage of San Antonio. Since its completion in 1921, this family retreat house in a 15-hectare mango orchard has sheltered and nurtured generations of talent including acclaimed concert violinist Alfonso “Coke” Bolipata. In 1993, he established the Casa San Miguel Foundation, which aims to “integrate culture and community development” in Zambales.

The province of Zambales is endowed with tourist attractions that are surely loved by the tourists. They will enjoy visiting and exploring the province. It is one of the best provinces in the Philippines that host many tourist attractions and wonders.

Zambales Mountain and River

• Botolan Resettlement Sites

Botolan, Zambales

A model resettlement village located in Brgys. Baquilan, Loob-bunga and Taugtug. Baquilan offers a hilltop view of the volcano's crater. It is populated by hundreds of Aeta families who were displaced from their native habitat during the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo in 1991. An optional visit for tourists who would rather engage in social and cultural exchange with the natives.

• Camara Ancestral House

Iba, Zambales

Vicente Camara was the first Filipino Governor of Zambales, appointed by Gen. Aguinaldo in 1898. His term ended upon his surrender to the Americans in 1901. The Camara house is one of a kind built from the strongest local hardwoods, such as molave, yakal and narra. Camara himself together with Ginzaburo Hanaki designed the house with materials personally chosen by the former in 1912. Design was based on the need for ventilation, steep roof made of nipa for coolness. Floor-to-ceiling windows added more ventilation to the house. The main staircase and jambs are made of single, unjoined molave hardwood. During the war, it was used as headquarters by the Japanese. Gen. Yamashita visited the house during the war years. In its yard, the first Caimito, Java Mango, and Mangosteen trees in Zambales were planted.

• Capones Island Lighthouse

San Antonio, Zambales

The Faro (Lighthouse) de Punta Capones on the Island of Grand Capon is a significant lighthouse of the first order. Its light guides ships entering and leaving the port of Manila and Subic Bay. The lighthouse also warns navigators of the rocky shores surrounding the Island of Capones. As a warning beacon, it serves together with the lights situated in the islets of Los Frailes, and Los Jabones as a series of warnings due to the dangers of the surrounding seas as well as the islands close proximity to shore, thereby making the seas very treacherous to unseasoned navigators. As a navigation guide, this lighthouse serves the main artery for ships heading towards China, which therefore makes it a very busy and important shipping route.

Responding to the need for better navigation guides throughout the Philippines, the Spanish colonial government initiated a substantial building program of lighthouses and light stations throughout the Philippine archipelago. One of the initial projects to be approved in this significant undertaking was the lighthouse on the Island of Grand Capon or Faro de Punta Capones.

• Fort Paynauen

This historic fortress whose moss-covered walls still stand on the bank of Bancal River in Barrio Pader in Botolan was once the most formidable Spanish garrison in Central Luzon during the first century of the Spanish regime in the Philippines. Also known as Playa Honda, the fort was constructed on the advice of Spanish Admiral Pedro Duran de Monforte to Governor General Diego de Salcedo whose administration of the islands from 1663 to 1668 had to face the serious problem of the continuous uprising of the inhabitants of the province, also known as the province of Playa Honda. Paynauen is the original name of Iba. In 1617, off the coast of Zambales, the Spaniards led by Juan Ronquillo, destroyed three of the six Dutch ships led by Admiral John Derickson Lamb in the two-day battle. This was part of a series of Dutch attacks on the Philippines in the early part of the 17th century. This is known in history as the second battle of Playa Honda. Fort Paynauen served as a prison not only for the recalcitrant natives of Zambales but also for Spanish officials who angered the Spanish Governor General or Archbishop of Manila. During rhe administration of Governor General Juan de Vargas Hurlado (1678-1684), he and the Archbishop of Manila, Don Felipe Pardo were not in good terms. When Archbishop Pardo became powerful, Vargas' trusted followers were incarcerated in Fort Paynauen.

• Subic Naval Base (now Subic Bay Freeport)

Olongapo City, Zambales

Characterized by its natural deep-sea harbor, with narrow entrance guarded by Grande Island, for the defense of its colonial hold on the Philippines, Spain was the first to build a naval station here in 1885 - only to lose it during the Spanish-American War 13 years later in 1898.It became a major shipyard and repair facility for the U.S. Navy after floating drydock "Dewey" was towed in Subic from Virginia in 1905. It was home to the U.S. 7th Fleet. The administration of Olongapo was later turned over to the Philippine government by the United States on December 7, 1959. The town was converted into a city on June 1, 1966 by virtue of RA No. 4645 sponsored by Congressman Ramon Magsaysay, Jr. The city mayor then was James L. Gordon. Today the former naval station has grown to become the first freeport zone in the country - a sprawling industrial, commercial and tourism estate attracting hundreds of investors and millions of local and foreign tourists.

• Ramon Magsaysay Marker

Ramon Magsaysay - Popularly known as the "idol of the masses," loved by by a multitude as the "guy", he was born on 31 august 1907 in Iba, Zambales; finished his BSC at the Jose Rizal College, Mandaluyong, Rizal; highest ranking official of the armed forces in Zambales, 1942; was promoted to Major General by Gen. Douglas MacArthur, 1945; representative, 1946 - 1950; President of the Philippines, 1953 - 1957; was responsible in crushing the Hukbalahap movement (insurgency); was responsible in organizing the President's Action Committee (PCAC), National Rehabilitation and Resettlement Administration (NARRA), National Marketing Corporation (NAMARCO), and the Land Tenure Administration (LTA). He died on March 17, 1957.

• Ulo ng Apo Monument

Olongapo City

Legend has it the name ‘Olongapo’ was derived from the phrase ‘Ulo ng Apo’ or Old Man's Head. The name was derived from the story of a wise, old man who wanted to sow unity among the members of a warring tribe. Disliked by the idea of a tribe having a true and good leader, the wise, old man just disappeared only to be found dead with his head severed from the body. His head was later found resting on the tip of a bamboo pole. Upon seeing this, a young boy run around the village crying “Ulo ng Apo”. The phrase stuck and the place is now known today as Olongapo. A monument in honor of the legendary leader lies at the center of the city.

• Bacala Guesthouse

San Salvador Island, Masinloc, Zambales

The guesthouse sits astride a sand bar in the middle of the bay. It has the privacy and comfort of a resort plus the pristine white sand and crystal-clear water for swimming and snorkeling.

• Cubi Point Bats

Subic Bay Freeport, Zambales

A horde of fruit bats hanging around tree tops are a must-see in Subic Bay Freport Zone. It is also a thrill to see them as they take off on their early evening hunt.

• Masinloc Boardwalk

Masinloc, Zambales

The site serves as a marine park and at the same time a playground and a favorite site for arts and cultural programs.

• Masinloc Marine Conservation Project

Considered as the main ecotourism destination in Masinloc, the project was adjudged as the "Best in Local Governance" in 1997 by the Local Government Academy and the Asian Institute of Management under the Galing Pook Award.

Subic, Zambales

Subic is the home of the Philippine Shipyard and Engineering Corp., a huge facility that can service all the repair requirements of ships plying routes in this part of the world. Its favorable site protects ships against rough seas and destructive strong winds.

• Subic Bay Lighthouse

This structure stands on a small precipice along the northbound lane of the national highway. It commands a panoramic view of Olongapo City, Subic Bay Freeport Zone and Subic Bay.

• Subic Bay Seaport

Subic Bay Freeport Zone, Zambales

The Subic Port is located Southwest of Luzon Island, Philippines. It is 110 kilometers North of Manila, facing the South China Sea and surrounded by Olongapo City and the towns of Subic and Morong. It is Northwest of the Bataan Peninsula and Southwest of the Zambales Province. Subic Bay Freeport has long been recognized for its strategic location, being at the center of the fastest growing markets in Asia. It is at the hub of the region, and all major cities in Asia are within easy reach either by sea or by air. (3 to 4 days by sea, 2-3 hrs. by air. Aside from its strategic location, SBF has a deepwater seaport that is capable of handling the largest ships ever built, manifested when it once supported the mighty US 7th Fleet. The Subic Seaport serves as a major alternative port for importers and exporters in the Northern and Central Luzon areas of the country to decongest the Manila International Container Terminal. It has a total of 15 operational piers and wharves capable of servicing all kinds of sea vessels. The Subic's seaport and container handling facilities were recently enhanced with the operation of the Subic Bay International Container Terminal Services at the Sattler pier. • Zambales Provincial Capitol Building

This building was constructed by the Spanish civil government in the years 1875-1878. The molave and yacal posts were cut in the forest near Dirita. Used as a provincial prison during the Spanish regime, it became the general headquarters of the revolutionary government of Zambales in 1899.

• Zambales Rocks

Zambales Rocks or Zambrox manufactures serpentine stone, novelty items such as desk accessories, corporate gifts, table fountains, and volcanic ash fall products such as figurines. The biggest sellers, here and abroad, are the corporate gifts such as clocks, penholders and candle holders.

• Bishop Deogracias Iniguez Museum

Located on the ground floor of the Bishop Byrne Diocesan Pastoral Center, the museum serves as not only as a permanent repository of religious art of the Diocesan Commission on Archives and Museum , but also as a venue for seasonal exhibits showcasing the religious and cultural heritage of the region. It features some interesting pieces such as the primitive renditions of San Pedro y Pablo in coral stone which probably date back to the 17th century. There is also an interesting vintage photograph of the Flores de Mayo participants inside the church , circa 1929. The museum was designed by Rei Gana Nicolas who used simple lines and dignivifed colors to shape and utilize every nook and cranny of the museum facility. Also the branchild of Vice Mayor Benjamin Farin, Jr.

• Magsaysay Ancestral House and Museum

Castillejos, Zambales

This is the same house where the late President Ramon Magsaysay, popularly known as "The Guy", grew up. At present, it is a a museum that contains his memorabilla. Born in 1907, Iba, Zambales, Magsaysay was the third president of the third Philippine Republic (December 31, 1953 - March 17, 1957). As secretary of national defense in 1950, he was instrumental in breaking the backbone of the Hukbalahap movement in Central Luzon. He died in a plane crash on March 17, 1957 at Mt. Manunggal in the province of Cebu after presiding over three graduation exercises as guest speaker the day before.

• Olongapo City Museum

Olongapo City Convention Center , Old Hospital Rd., East Tapinac Olongapo City

The museum showcases the rich historical and cultural heritage of Olongapo City, chronicling its various stages of transformation over the years, from the city's humble beginnings as a small fishing village inhabited by native Aetas, to a Navy town, to a successful military base conversion and economic independence after the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo in 1991, and its subsequent growth and development from an ordinary municipality into a vibrant city and a progressive community. The museum also features 2 exhibit halls, a conference/multi-purpose room, a patio and parking space.

• Alwasan Lanum Cave

Sta. Cruz, Zambales

Alwasan Lanum is Zambal which means "water outflow" suggesting a concave fissure on the side of a mountain endowed with rich natural formations, the most unique of which is the sound of cascading waters coming out with cool breeze from the dark recesses of the cavern. The cave features a miniature waterfall gushing from a narrow 2-feet opening some 15 feet above the water level below. Water plunges down to a pool about 12-ft deep with a floor area of some 20 square meters. The stream flowing down the mouth of the cave teems with shrimps, biya, "tabios", eel and assorted array of small fish.

• Anawangin Cove

An undeveloped paradise tucked into the Zambales mountains, some five kms away from Capones Island in San Antonio, Anawangin beach is a popular camping site among outdoor and mountaineering groups. The unusual presence of pine trees on the beach instead of the expected palm trees makes the place a photographer’s choice. Its cascading yet refreshing crystal clear stream outlined by tall pine trees provides a respite to the intrepid traveler. Its near white sand courtesy of Mt. Pinatubo is a setting for a wonderful playground for beach lovers.

Of the many caverns in Central Luzon, only the bats of the Apaan Cave can rival the millions of bats that dwell in the Bahay-Paniki Cave. Thick guano deposits cover almost all the floor area of the cave. Entering the cave is difficult though due to a narrow opening at the entrance - at 2 feet only. Trekking east from the national highway after Uacon Bridge to the foot of the Zambales mountain range takes about two hours. The cave can be reached by passing through thick Anos bamboo species and

molave-type forests at Sitio Matalahib, Brgy. Lucapon, south of Sta. Cruz. It is about 4 kms from the national highway.

• Baloc-Baloc Cave

After a brief but arduous trek thru rocky path, one is rewarded with a magnificent spectacle: a waterfall right inside the cave. From a height of about 10 meters, natural cool spring water oozes out of the cavernous ceiling and on to the caves grotesque rocky walls. Down under, a nature-formed swimming pond awaits the exhausted trekker.

• Balon Falls

These falls have clean, clear water and is surrounded by gigantic boulders. Situated in an area of lush greeneries, the falls provide a cool, tranquil retreat for nature lovers.

• Bucao River

Now covered with lahar and volcanic materials, this serves as the trekking area towards the foot of Mt. Pinatubo when it is dry.

• Calanga Reef

It is a peanutshell-shaped shoal approximately less than one (1) nautical mile off Brgy. San Agustin and has an area covering 40 hectares. The first station is located at the core area of a shoal. The reef flat has a depth of 30 ft. gradually descending to 50 ft. of sandy substratum. The reef flat is barren and composed of massive types of dead corals with algae covering, fungiids (fungia and herpolita sp). New growth of branching corals (Acropora sp) was also recorded. The estimated average live coral cover of this station is 48.99 percent.

• Capones Island

An island with a figure of a man’s face on its side, white sand and green clear waters compose one of the hidden treasures of Zambales. It is also known for an old lighthouse built around the year 1890 during the Spanish era. It is located exactly as part of Barangay Pundaquit in San Antonio, Zambales. From the shore of Pundaquit, it’s a 15 minute boat ride before reaching the island’s beachfront. It rises high over the cliffs like a cinematic picture right from the movies and lures people to marvel both at the structure and the enchanting panorama of the sea and the sky. There are neither resorts nor inhabitants on the island, so tourists can enjoy it for themselves. Boats can be arranged to take you to the island from the mainland resorts of Pundakit. • Coto Mines Mountain Resort

Coto Mines Mountain Resort is nestled within a mountainous terrain of primary and secondary growth forest of relatively unspoiled and pristine quality. The mountain forest has diverse varieties of hardwood trees and wild flowering plants, a natural habitat for birds and butterflies, and fertile hunting ground for wild boars, deers and eels. An ideal place for diving, swimming, and recreation, it is the venue where the candidates of the 1979 Miss Universe Beauty Pageant posed for photograph. It has standard facilities for beach combing and water sports activities.

Masinloc Oyon Bay, with its crystal clear water, white sand and biological life forms, is perfect for snorkeling and diving, particularly Bacala diving site.

• Mt. Mabanban

Ideal for camping and mountaineering, this place offers a magnificent view of Subic Bay.

• Mt. Pinatubo Botolan, Zambales

Mt. Pinatubo is an active volcano located on the island of Luzon at the intersection of the borders of the provinces of Zambales, Tarlac, and Pampanga. The volcano’s eruption in June 1991 came after 500 years of dormancy, and produced one of the largest and most violent eruptions of the 20th century. Before 1991, the mountain was inconspicuous and heavily eroded. It was covered in dense forest which supported a population of several thousand indigenous people called Aetas, who fled to the mountains from the lowlands when the Spain conquered the Philippines in 1565.

• Mt. Tapulao

Palauig, Zambales

Mt. Tapulao, standing at a height of 6,683 feet (2,037m) above sea level with temperature cooler than Baguio at 12 - 16 Celsius (53.6 - 60.8 Farenheit), is veritably a garden of nature abundant with century-old pines, locally known as Tapulao, hence, the name of the mountain. It plays host to species of orchids, ferns, mossy forest and a secret garden of Bonsai trees, wild strawberry farm, home to monkeys, wild deers, birds, wild boars, upland horses, cattles, wild cats and lizards. Truly, a perfect paradise for nature lovers. It is located at the rolling terrain of Mt. Salaza, Palauig, Zambales. Ideal for biking, driving, trekking, camping and kayaking at the Wild Water River.

• Pinatubo Lake

The existence of this large body of water was caused by the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo in 1991. Buried in this lake were some 600 houses and establishments. The place is now considered a potential tourist destination.

• Potipot Island

Candelaria, Zambales

About 60 kms. off the coast, the town of Candelaria in Brgy Uacon is the jump off point to Potipot Island, an idyllic South Sea setting with fringes of white-sand beaches and a beautiful snorkeling reef

• Sagrada Familia Caves

Found along the cliffside of the Zambales mountain ranges, the Sagrada Familia caves are typical of others except that a mysterious image of the Holy Family was caused by a continuous dripping from the apex of the cavern. Evidences of coral fragments along the cliffside point to the fact that the area was millions of years ago part of an ocean bed.

• San Salvador Island and Marine Sanctuary

San Salvador Island, located in the western side of Masinloc, Zambales, is about 2.5 kilometers away from the mainland, or a 30-minute pump boat ride from the coast.

The reefs in the northeastern part of the island are fringing, characterized by a vast reef flat with sudden drop-offs in the crest. Spur and groove formation is common along the reef crest, particularly in the area facing the South China Sea. Divers would certainly love feasting their eyes on seeing the largest Manta Rays in the country, each measuring about 10 feet in diameter. The island is rich in fruit- bearing trees like mangoes. Clear water, smooth beaches coupled with powdery white sand and cool sea breeze. The island is host to the only fish sanctuary in Luzon whose reef is made up of used tires to substantially increase fish production. The Giant Clam Farm (Tridacna Gigas) provides enjoyment to nature enthusiasts with perfect underwater sceneries.

• Silanguin Bay

Endowed with abundant marine resources, this place is ideal for scuba diving, and is one of the five coves to be developed into a fish sanctuary. Naturally an ideal place to visit for scuba diving adventures.

• Sta. Barbara Falls

Sta. Barbara falls, a newly discovered wonder of nature, is located in Brgy. Sta. Barbara, Iba, Zambales. From the barangay hall, it is a 30-minute car ride and 30-minute trek by the river to reach the twin falls. It has now become one of the tourist attractions of Iba.

• Sto. Nino Cave

Sto. Nino Cave is a fissure on the earth's crust in one of the hills of Barangay Babangcal, northeast of of the town of Candelaria in Zambales. It is accessible by any type of transportation and can be reached from the town proper in about 20 minutes. The cave measures about 50 by 75 meters and at the central wall sits an altar with the images of the Holy Family. The weired cross in the background is a makeshift human femur bones. The place is actually a shrine built in honor of an unsung hero, who during the last world war provided a company of Japanese soldiers with a meal of wild, boiled but poisonous cassava roots that "wiped them out without a single shot being fired." Another unique charm of the cave is the presence of a petrified giant clam (taklobo), measuring almost two feet in diameter, imbedded in the rocky stratum of the cave's ceiling.

Subic Bay, Zambales

Subic Bay has the country's only remaining three-layered virgin canopy rainforest teeming with wildlife and foliage. The bay offers ocean-going vessels a natural, deep-water port facilities and sheltered harbor. It contains a wealth of historical wrecks many of which lie in quite shallow waters below 130 feet. Of the dozen known vessels that were sunk during the last world war, seven are now dive sites. Of the seven vessels, three are from the American Navy, one is from the Japanese, one is from the Spanish, and the rest are barges and landing crafts. The significant vessels fom the American Naval Forces are the El

Capitana, the Catalina Patrol Aircraft, and the USS new York, the flagship of the North Atlantic Squadron. The Japanese Oryoku Maru, christened as "Hell Ship," was even a luxury liner. It was actually carrying more than a thousand Americans and Allied Prisoners when the Americans made the deadly mistake of attacking it, thus sending their own people and allies to a watery grave. The USS New York, which was scuttled by the US Navy in 1941 at the approach of the Japanese, is now the home of multitudes of marine life species. To swim past the barrels of those massive cannons while schools of talakitok dart overhead in this eerie environment is never to be forgotten. La Gallega, a scaled-down faithful reconstruction of an authentic Spanish galleon used to be commissioned for one's cruising trip along the bay. It is host to the sprawling Subic Bay

• Tumutugol Cave

The cave features a large dome glistening with stalactites and supported by a broad white column. The floor of the cave is lain in a 45-degree diagonal position which is about 150 meters down to a deadend. It is characterized by both big and small boulders and a thick mixture of guano and alluvial soil in the lower portion. Water dripping (every two seconds) from the tips of three newly formed 2-inch long baby stalactites are noted on the low-lying ceiling in the lower portion of the cave. Bats are the only form of animals found.

• Friendship Park

This long and narrow park, adjacent to Subic Bay Freeport main gate, stretches along the Perimeter Road and offers visitors to the area a children's park. Also located in this area is the Sisterhood Marker.

• Marikit Park

Located at the heart of the City of Olongapo, Marikit Park is a favorite place for children with its playground equipment and facilities for family activities.

• Summit Park

Located at Upper Cubi, Subic Bay Freeport Zone, Summit Park is known for its outdoor facilities like a hanging bridge, tree house and a children's playground. An entrance fee  more or less P20 is charged for every guest.

• Tappan Park

Named after Capt. Benjamin Tappan, commandant of the Navy Yard from 1914 to 1915, it is the oldest park in Olongapo City. This triangular park, located near the city hall, is a frequent site of various programs and significant activities. Its numerous shady trees and benches make this place ideal for public gatherings.

• St. Agustine Parish Church

The faith first came to the territory of the diocese in 1607 through the efforts of the missionaris of the Order of the Recollects of St. Augustine. They settled in Subic, Masinloc, Sta. Cruz, Iba, and Cabangan where they established the first centers of the faith. The administration of the faith in the province changed hands when the territory was transferred to the care of the Columban Fathers in 1951. The prelature of Iba was erected on October 18, 1955 as suffrage of the Archdiocese of Manila. The Most Rev. Henry Byrne was appointed the first prelate ordinary and he took ecumenical possession of concentrating on their work. On November 15, 1982, Iba was elevated to diocese. Upon the death of Bishop Byrne, the Most Rev. Paciano B. Aniceto, then auxiliary bishop of Tuguegarao, was appointed second bishop of Iba. On January 31, 1989, he was appointed Archbishop of San Fernando, Pampanga. The Most Rev. Deogracias Yniguez Jr. succeeded him on December 27, 1989.

• San Andres Parish Church

Masiloc, Zambales

The Augustinian Recollects began construction on this church in the 18th century. It was completed in the 19th century, and has stood mostly intact until recently, when a strong earthquake inflicted extensive damage to the structure. The choir loft features a distinctively carved polychromed portal (Credit: NCCA). The church is made of adobe and was declared as a national cultural treasure by the National Museum in 2001.

This post will be all about the Zambales tourist spots and things to do in Zambales. We stayed for quite a while in Zambales and we enjoyed our Zambales itinerary so much. Most tourists that you can see in Zambales are locals because it is one of the closest places with a lot of beaches in Manila .

is a province in the Philippines located in the  Central Luzon  region in the island of Luzon. It’s one of the places that is closest to us since we’re based in Angeles City in Pampanga, which is just a few hours drive away. Zambales may be famous for its amazing beaches, but it still has a lot to offer.

How to get to zambales, getting from manila to zambales.

If you are getting from Manila to Zambales from Manila. There are buses from Victory Liner in Manila. The trip takes 4 hours via Olongapo and the rate is  270 PHP . There are buses from Olongapo to San Antonio in Zambales which takes 40 minutes and the fare is  55 PHP .

GETTING FROM CLARK TO ZAMBALES

If you are getting from Clark to Zambales. There are buses from  DAU bus terminal  in Angeles City to Olongapo City which cost  150 PHP  and takes almost 2 hours.

There are also PUVs or vans going to Olongapo from DAU bus terminal. The ride takes 1 hour and 30 minutes and costs  130 PHP . This is the way we took from Angeles City in Pampanga to Zambales.

CURRENCY AND ATMS ZAMBALES

The currency in Zambales is  Philippine Peso . Occasionally, some establishments can accept dollars but it is preferred that you exchange it to Peso for better and easier transactions. You won’t also find it hard to find ATM machines in Zambales. There are a lot of establishments as well as banks in the town proper that has ATM machines.

TRANSPORTATION AROUND ZAMBALES

The main mode of transportation used in Zambales are  tricycles  for short distances and  buses  for longer trips. There are a lot of buses in the highway, coming to and from Manila. On places near the sea, they have  motorboats  for fishing and for going to other islands as well.

ZAMBALES ITINERARY DAILY BUDGET TRAVEL

Those doing this Zamblaes itinerary will find inexpensive but a little bit pricier meals than other places in the Philippines. A  full meal  in Zambales can go for as low as  80 PHP  per person while a bottle of beer can be bought for around  50-65 PHP . Restaurant food can be bought for around  500-800 PHP  for two people around Zambales province.

Pretty cheap, right? And if you only have  20 PHP  in your pocket and you’re feeling pretty hungry, you can even buy plenty of street food with your cash.

Transportation is also pretty cheap with jeepneys going all over town at a flat rate of  10 PHP  and  50-100 PHP  if you want to move around tricycle.

You have to add an extra budget for island hopping and entrance fees in the islands. An island hopping day joining more people can be around  500 PHP  with entrance fees included for an amazing day tour around the beaches and islands in Zambales.

Those who are looking for  budget hotels  in Zambales and can find  900-1200 PHP . There are mid-budget establishments that go for around  1500-2000 PHP . That’s only $19-38 USD! For those who want a more luxurious stay, you can check in at very  nice hotels at around $50-120 USD . You can also try AirBnB in Subic area and find deals starting from  $15 USD .

ZAMBALES TOURIST SPOTS AND THINGS TO DO IN ZAMBALES

1. botolan resettlement sites.

This is a model resettlement in Botolan that offers an amazing view of the  volcano’s crater  from the hilltop. Before, it was the place where native Aetas lived before they were evacuated due to the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo in 1991. This place is perfect if you love to  reconnect with natives  and  learn their culture.

2. CAMARA ANCENTRAL HOUSE

Camara Ancentral House is an old-fashioned but amazing structure in Zambales. It was the house of the first Filipino governor of Zambales,  Vicente Camara , where its name was derived from. This house also served as the  headquarters of Japanese  during the the war. Because of its  extravagant structure and history , it became one of the tourist spots in Zambales.

3. OLONGAPO

Olongapo, or the  beach city , has a narrow entrance guarded by the navy and has a  deep sea harbor . It was also a historic place for the Philippines that made it to the top tourist spots in Zambales. Places you can visit in Olongapo City include the  the Subic Bay, Inflatable Island, Camayan Beach, and Baloy Beach.

4. ALWASAN LANUM CAVE

Alwasan Lanum means “ water outflow ” and a concave fissure that has a small waterfall inside. The best part about this cave is that you can hear the majestic water flowing.

5. FORT PAYNAUEN

This fort is also one of the historical places in Botolan, Zambales famous to tourists. It  served as a prison  for the locals and natives in Zambales as well as the Spanish officials who displeased the  Spanish Governor General or Archbishop of Manila. If you are into feeling the  old vibes of Zambales as well as learning about history , then you should definitely visit this place.

6. SUBIC BAY FREEPORT

Subic Bay Freeport Zone, which is known simply as Subic Bay or Subic is a  special economic zone  covering portions of Olongapo City and the towns of Subic in Zambales and Morong and Hermosa in Bataan.

7. THE HELLSHIPS MEMORIAL

This peaceful place in Subic served as a  memorial place to commemorate the soldiers  who fought during the World War 2. It is a great place to relax or when you want to contemplate life. It is also very classy and historical.

8. INA POON BATO CHURCH

Ina Poon Bato is known for many names including  Nuestra Señora dela Paz of Zambales, “Apo Apang”, or The Doting Queen of Zambales . If you came to Zambales for a pilgrimage, this church is something you shouldn’t miss because for the locals, Ina Poon Bato is  miraculous.  You can stop by this church to pray or experience the vibes of the religious locals praying.

9. el kabayo waterfalls.

El Kabayo waterfals has two falls. The first one is  4-feet high , and the other is  15 feet high.  It’s one of the places in Zambales where you can swim, have a bath, and beat the summer heat. There are also accommodations available in Kabayo waterfalls just in case you are planning overnight. There is an  entrance fee of 50 PHP .

10. CAPONES LIGHTHOUSE

This activity is quite popular among Filipinos who do overnights in Capones Island. At  sunrise ,  it’s a perfect time for  trekking  to the Lighthouse and enjoy the views of the island from the top.

11. HIKE A MOUNTAIN

There are few mountains to hike in Zambales. The most popular hike could be Mt Pinatubo. Trekking this mountain can be done in one day, which involves riding a 4×4 on a lahar field and a 3-hour trekking back and forth. Below are some of the pricing packages if you are coming from Manila:

Package 1 (from Manila to Pinatubo Crater Lake via Capas) –  PHP 2000 to PHP 3000

Package 2 (from Manila to Pinatubo Crater Lake via Botolan) –  PHP 2500

12. ISLAND HOPPING IN ZAMBALES

You can just get a bus and heading to Zambales, less than 40 minutes driving. There are a few island to visit:  Camara Island, Capones Island and you can visit Anawangin Cove and Nagsasa Cove .

Prices to organize the  island hopping  are around  2000 PHP  for going to Camara,  Capones Island  and Anawangin. If you include  Nagsasa Cove, Talisayen Cove  in your itinerary, you will have to pay  2500 PHP  total for all the islands.

You have to bring your own food to the tour but you can get a gallon of water from the boatmen for  50 PHP  for the whole day. You can go around Pundaquit and find a carinderia where you can buy food and rice for your day tour.

If you are traveling alone, we recommend you to join to groups so you will be able to pay around  500 PHP  for your island hopping in Zambales.

How to get to Capones Island?  You have to ride a bus from Olongapo bus terminal to San Antonio. It costs  50 PHP  for a local bus and it takes  40 minutes.  Once you are in San Antonio, you have to get a tricycle to Pundaquit. There are 4-kilometers rides from San Antonio to Pundaquit and they charged us  30 PHP  per head.

13. CASA SAN MIGUEL

Casa San Miguel is one of the tourists’ favorite when they visit Zambales, It was built in 1921  in a 15-hectare mango orchard  and where famous people stayed for some quite a long time. Casa San Miguel is where you could find the  Museum of Community Heritage  which boasts the unique and rich culture of the local community.

It has  guest rooms  (bed and breakfast), a  restaurant , a  pre-school , and a  concert hall  for you to enjoy it more.

Entrance fee for adults is  PHP 125  and  PHP 75  for kids.

14. CAMPING AT THE BEACH

The most popular beaches for camping are  Anawangin Cove  and Nagsasa Cove .  You have to pay an entrance fee and make sure you bring everything that you need since they aren’t selling food and water. They are renting tents if you need. There will be  no electricity  but the experience will be awesome!

15. SUNSET AT THE BEACH

In Subic,  the sunsets almost never disappoint,  so it’s always the moment of the day we looked forward to. We took magical shots every trip that we did in Subic! Choose your favorite one. If you stay for sunset when camping, be ready with the tent so you can enjoy this magical moment.

16. SPENDING THE DAY IN THE BEACH

When you’re in Zambales, the number 1 food you should try is their mangoes! It is the province’s  best and main produce  and their mangoes are deemed to be the  sweetest and most delicious mangoes in the world.  Definitely a must try! You can also buy from everywhere in Zambales to bring home to your loved ones.

Like what we said earlier, you can find different kinds of accommodation places throughout Zambales- from  budget and backpack inns, Airbnb’s to luxurious hotels and resorts.  You can find a budget hotel and stay there for around  PHP 900  per night.

There are also hotels that would cost as high as  PHP 6000 and above.  With this price you can get the best stay and most comfortable experience from the hotels you’re checking in.

There are different areas to stay in Zambales, depending if you want to stay close to Subic, close to the island hopping and you can even have the possibility of camping in the beach!

FESTIVALS IN ZAMBALES

Zambales mango festival.

Like what we said, mango is the primary export product of Zambales and because of that, they are very thankful to their mango produce so they have their own festival to celebrate their pride. It is also called the “Dinamulag Festival” and it is their way of expressing their joy and fulfillment for having a bountiful harvest throughout the year.

People who wear colorful costumes dance in the streets and there are also live bands and concerts. Everything is festive during the Mango Festival, which is celebrated every month of April.

PAYNAUEN ‘DUYAN’ FESTIVAL

Paynauen Duyan Festival is also an annual celebration in Iba, Zambales. Paynauen is a Zambal word meaning “pahingahan” or something to rest on. Similarly, “duyan” or hammock, is something to rest on.

This festival features events like Bb. Paynauen/Ms. Paynauen, Street Dancing, Duyan Parade, and many other fun activities that the whole town enjoys. This is celebrated from April 25 to May 1.

DOMOROKDOK FESTIVAL

This festival, which is celebrated from  May 3-4 annually,  is one of the most popular festivals in Zambales. It features the beautiful women in Zambales by having  “Miss Botolan” and “Miss Botolan Tourism”  beauty contests. There is also a street dancing competition that everyone prepares for.

SCOOTOURISTA FESTIVAL

This is a festival that serves as a  promotional campaign for businesses  via parades, rallies and races. Scooters are on parade at the Scootourista Festival primarily because Subic Bay is where many big scooter companies drop off the goods to sell to the Filipino market.

Big names such as Honda and Mitsubishi as well as American motorbike brands participate at the Scootourista Festival and races are held between professional drivers.
