This is a short sound and light show that’s projected directly onto the waterfall, and the whole room is lit up with alternating colors and epic music. It’s a fun and impressive experience.

The sound and light show is usually put on several times every evening, but the times can vary by month. You can check current and upcoming show times on the Jewel Changi website .

12. Enjoy The Free Movie Theaters (Terminal 2/3)

If you have enough time to spare, you should definitely take advantage of the free movie theaters in the Singapore airport!

There are free theaters located airside in Terminals 2 and 3, and they show lots of great movies for adults and kids alike. Just remember to set a reminder on your phone so you don’t forget about your boarding time!

Aside from occasional maintenance, Changi’s movie theaters are open every day, 24 hours a day. You can find more information about the location and opening hours on their website.

13. Visit The Butterfly Garden (Terminal 3)

Changi is unique for having the world’s first butterfly garden in an airport! It’s a nice little tropical habitat with a grotto waterfall and more than 1,000 tropical butterflies from about 40 species.

We had fun walking through the two-story garden and taking pictures of the butterflies up close, and sometimes a butterfly will even land on you. It’s definitely one of the best things to do in Singapore airport!

The Butterfly Garden is free to visit, and it’s open 24/7. It’s located on the airside of Terminal 3, and if you’re in transit you can also reach it from other parts of the Singapore airport using the Skytrain or on foot.

Last but not least, Changi is home to Singapore’s tallest slide, and it’s also the tallest slide in an airport anywhere in the world!

It’s a curvy slide that is 12 meters tall (four stories high), and should be lots of fun for kids and kids at heart. The Slide is open daily from 12 PM (noon) to 10:30 PM. You can find more information on the Changi website .

The Slide is part of the public area of Changi (not airside), so you need to pass through immigration and ‘enter’ Singapore to see it. It’s located in Terminal 3, and you can also reach it from other parts of the Singapore airport using the Skytrain, shuttle bus, or on foot.

15. Visit The Country Of Singapore

After you’ve exhausted all of the best things to do in Singapore airport, it’s time to go outside and see the country of Singapore!

If you have a long layover in Singapore of at least 5 or 6 hours, that’s generally considered to be enough time to exit the airport and go see some things in the city, although you’ll still want to be conservative and keep an eye on your watch.

Better yet, if you have plenty of free time in Southeast Asia, then you should definitely book a hotel and spend a few days in Singapore seeing all of the famous sights in the country, like Chinatown, Little India, and Gardens by the Bay.

For day tours in Singapore, we recommend GetYourGuide . We’ve used them for lots of tours and activities around the world, and they’re great!

You can use this service to pre-book entrance tickets to Singapore’s popular attractions, and they also have private tours that take you to some of the best places in Singapore. Highly recommended!

A giant slide will keep people of all ages entertained, and the bouncing nets in Canopy Park provide an active level of excitement. Look for the cute flower sculptures scattered around Canopy Park , as well as art installations.

Simply make your way from the departure or transit area of Terminal 1!

2. Catch a movie at our theatres with free screenings

Feeling bored? Catch a free movie at Changi Airport’s in-house movie theatres at Terminal 3.

Many memories of a holiday in Singapore begin at Changi Airport—from checking in and exploring the airport’s free facilities to finally waiting for the boarding call at the boarding gate. If you have a little more time between your flights and are after some free things to do, the movie theatres at Terminal 3 could be your new favourite spot. What could be a better way to while the time away than watching the latest blockbusters without paying a single cent?

3. Hop between Skytrains to explore the whole airport

skytrain transport at singapore changi airport, fun things to do

Efficient, effective, and elegant—our Skytrains are an experience on their own.

Changi Airport is 1,300 hectares—equivalent to 1,800 football fields. Yes, you read that right. As an airport this size, you can be sure that our priority is passengers’ comfort and convenience. If you’ve visited Changi, chances are you would have taken the Skytrains to move between the terminals. With them, travel time is shortened by half compared to walking—especially useful if you’re rushing for your flight because every minute counts. Jump between the different Skytrains and explore the different terminals! They connect Terminals 1, 2 and 3 at both the public and transit areas.

Pro-Tip: Take the public area Skytrains between Terminals 2 and 3 to get up close to the HSBC Rain Vortex in Jewel!

4. Slide down the world’s tallest slide in an airport

world tallest slide at terminal 3 changi airport, free things to do

Ride down the world’s tallest slide in an airport at Changi Airport Terminal 3.

Whether you’re seven or 70, Changi Airport doesn’t discriminate! Come and slide with us at The Slide@T3. At 12-metre-tall (or four storeys high), we guarantee that you will have a whale of a time whizzing down the slides, and you will be raring to go again before you even reach the bottom of the slide.

It’s perfect for both the young and the young at heart!

Pro-Tip: If you’re travelling through Terminal 4, we recommend you try out the slide experience there too!

5. Have fun at Chandelier at T4

Tucked away at the end of Terminal 4 is a mega play structure that looks like an art installation. If there's one unique thing to see at Changi Airport, this would be it!

After walking around the Heritage Zone, take a few more steps and slide down to the Chandelier at Changi Airport Terminal 4. Have fun at the 16-metre-tall structure and play till your heart’s content! Plus, with our guide, you'll find out that there's more to do at Terminal 4 than you know!

6. Scale new heights at Climb@T3

rock climbing, fun things to do at changi airport terminal 3

Conquer the 12-metre-tall boulder wall at Climb@T3, with nine different climbing routes.

Climb@T3 features an eight-metre-high rock climbing wall, complete with nine different climbing routes of varying difficulties. Whether you're a seasoned climber or just starting out, there's a challenge suited to your skill level. New to climbing? No worries, Climb@T3 also offers guided programmes to help you kickstart your journey. And that's not all – once you've conquered the heights, why not give their 12-metre-long bouldering wall a try?

It's a fantastic way to burn off some energy, especially if you're travelling with restless little ones.

7. Meet some dinos in Jewel-rassic Quest

Here's an AR game not to be missed by dino-lovers!

Make your way to Jewel's Level 1 Concierge Counter and embark on a prehistoric journey with the Jewel-rassic quest . As if you stepped into a time machine, get transported back a staggering 89 million years into the past when colossal dinosaurs ruled the Earth. These larger-than-life creatures come to life amidst the lush greenery of the Shiseido Forest Valley via augmented reality.

Engage in thrilling things to do like hunting for dino eggs, unearthing fossils, and even meeting cast members from the Jurassic Franchise! Your little ones are in for a day of fun as they explore Jewel (even the Canopy Park), determined to spot all the captivating dinosaurs that await their discovery.

8. Visit the first Butterfly Garden in an airport

butterfly garden terminal 3 changi airport

Witness the fluttering of beautiful butterflies in Changi Airport’s Butterfly Garden at Terminal 3.

Ahh... Changi's famed Butterfly Garden. Hidden in a discreet corner of Terminal 3’s transit area, the Butterfly Garden is the world’s first in an airport. In its full glory, you will see more than 1,000 butterflies from 30 to 40 species native to Southeast Asia. Apart from butterflies, the garden features blooming flowers, lush greenery, and even a six-metre-tall grotto waterfall. It is also where you can witness the butterfly metamorphosis . Look out for the many cocoons maturing in the cage, you might even catch some butterflies emerging from their cocoons if you are lucky!

9. Check out some unique cactus species at the Cactus Garden

cactus garden terminal 1 changi airport

Located at level 3 of Terminal 1 at Changi Airport, the Cactus Garden is a rooftop garden that boasts some of the finest views in town.

You may not be a fan of Singapore’s hot climate, but these guys definitely are! Here at Changi, we don’t just bring you all over the world, we bring cacti from all over the world for you too! There are more than 100 species of unique cacti at the Cactus Garden at Terminal 1, including various forms of Cycads – a hardy survivor of the dinosaur era – and other interesting cacti like the Golden Barrel cactus, Old Man Cactus, and the giant Ponytail palm trees. You can even see some edible apple cactus and prickly pear cactus too! There is bound to be a cactus here that prickles your fancy if you're trying to find fun things to do to kill time.

10. Be enthralled by Terminal 2's latest garden Dreamscape

dreamscape changi airport terminal 2

Dreamscape features a digital sky and many upstanding rock and plant structures, and is a great spot for a brief respite.

Dreamscape is one of several digital installations we have all around Changi Airport. If you ever need a breather, step into Dreamscape at Terminal 2 and admire the digital sky, greenery and fish pond. Occasionally, the digital sky even turns into a thunderstorm, where you'll find hidden surprises such as a sampan boat passing by. Make sure to also step onto the elevated pond and look beneath your feet! The pond is built using transparent acrylic so you can spot all the different fishes swimming beneath you.

Check out the article linked above if you are curious to find out more about how this digital marvel came to life!

11. Admire the mesmerising Kinetic Rain

kinetic rain changi airport terminal 1

See if you can spot the different shapes that the Kinetic Rain at Terminal 1 installation can transform into.

There are many art installations in Changi Airport, but one of the favourites in Terminal 1 has got to be Kinetic Rain. Located at the Departure Hall, you wouldn’t miss this giant sculpture made up of 1,216 bronze droplets moving in perfect harmony. Watch closely and you’ll find that the sculpture transforms elegantly into multiple shapes – 16 in fact, ranging from an aeroplane, a hot air balloon, to even a dragon! Travellers around the world stop by the Kinetic Rain to be mesmerised by its deliberate, fluid movements.

Some have even told us that it calms and relaxes them! Watch the Kinetic Rain in motion, a treat for you, no matter where you are.

12. Admire the stunning Wonderfalls

the wonderfalls changi airport terminal 2

The digital waterfall – Wonderfalls - located in Terminal 2’s Departure Hall, is a sight to behold.

Let's face it, air travel is not equivalent to a trip to the spa (unless you’re at Changi 😉). Rushing for flights, security screening, layovers and delays can be stressful experiences, and that’s where our stunning art installations come into play. Art can have a calming effect on stressed-out passengers.

However, even if you are not a stressed-out passenger, you can still enjoy the beautiful art installations we have on display in the airport! Our latest installation at Terminal 2, the Wonderfalls, is a four-storey tall digital waterfall that will be sure to make you go “WOW”. Be sure to catch the special four-minute show that plays every 30 minutes to see our waterfall in all its glory.

The next time you come here, try spotting some of these masterpieces that can’t be missed!

13. Marvel at the enthralling Petalclouds

petalclouds terminal 4 changi airport

Admire the Petalclouds at Changi Airport Terminal 4, another kinetic structure worthy of a click.

“Petalclouds,” a kinetic art sculpture at Changi Airport Terminal 4, is inspired by the design theme of orchid petals found everywhere in the terminal. This massive dynamic artwork, which spans 200 metres across the Central Galleria, comprises six “floating clouds" which are a perfect marriage of art and technology. You will be mesmerised as you observe the fluid movement of the art piece moving in tandem with the classical music specially composed by BAFTA award-winning composer, Ólafur Arnalds. It truly is a moving experience (no pun intended).

14. Relax by the majestic HSBC Rain Vortex

hsbc rain vortex jewel changi airport

No matter how many times you’ve seen it, the HSBC Rain Vortex at Jewel never gets old.

The icon of Jewel Changi Airport is a spectacle to behold both in the day and at night. During the day, you will be enchanted by the sunlight catching the water as the mighty cascade flows 40 metres down to the basement. Come night, you will be dazzled by the display of lights and sounds as the fountain transforms into a magical show. Cooped up at home for too long? The HSBC Rain Vortex and the surrounding Shiseido Forest Valley are great places to head out to for a breath of fresh air.

15. Soak in the lush greenery surrounding the Shiseido Forest Valley

shiseido forest valley jewel changi airport, relaxing things to do

If you're looking for relaxing things to do, then bathe in natural sunlight at Jewel's Shiseido Forest Valley. Apart from learning about the types of flora, it also doubles as a tranquil retreat.

Escape from the hustle and bustle of the airport as you take a hike through the Shiseido Forest Valley at Jewel. A four-storey area that features walking trails, over 900 palms and trees, and 60,000 varieties of shrubs from all around the world, your worries will melt away as you soak in the luscious green canopy around you. You can choose to walk past the rocky falls on the eastern trail, which would give you a sense of grounded-ness, or you can take the western trail and be shrouded in a refreshing mist for a mystical experience. With the enchanting music in the background, a walk through the Shiseido Forest Valley is an ethereal experience.

16. Have fun at the Canopy Park

canopy park jewel changi airport

Located at the topmost level of Jewel Changi, the mazes and bouncing nets at the Canopy Park make it a recreational wonderland for all.

Looking for a play area that is built for kids and the young-at-heart? The Canopy Park at Jewel is an indoor wonderland for both children and adults! There are three first-of-its-kind play attractions, which are Sky Nets, Canopy Mazes, and Discovery Slides!

Both the walking and bouncing Sky Nets are attractions that will score high on both the thrill-seeking and enjoyment aspects. There are two types of Sky Nets, the first is a walking net designed to introduce a slight thrill factor as it straddles a five-storey high void, and it feels like a contemplative walk in the park where you have to watch each step for balance. The second net, the bouncing net, allows visitors to bounce their way amidst the canopy of the lush vegetation in Jewel.

Next, you can also have fun getting lost and navigating in the hedge maze and mirror maze. The former feels serene as you wander around the beautifully landscaped hedges, while the latter offers a fully immersive and trippy experience. How fast can you navigate out of the mazes?

As for the Discovery Slides, there are a total of four slides that make up the playscape! The slides are an integrated combination of a lookout platform and a kids’ play area where children of all ages and even adults, depending on their courage and ability, find the perfect spot for sliding.

Oh! And for those planning your wedding or pre-wedding photoshoots, you can now say ‘I do’ in front of the most romantic backdrops in Jewel. Talk to us to find out how we can make your dream wedding come true.

Unwind with some plane spotting activity at Changi Airport’s viewing malls.

The tall windows give an unrestricted view of the airside where you can observe aircraft and Changi’s ground operations on the tarmac. For many, the viewing galleries are more than just a place for plane spotting . We’ve seen students using the big, quiet space to study for their exams, couples spending some much-needed alone time for heart-to-heart talks, children marvelling at the huge aircraft parked right in front of them and more. This is a place where dreams are made and promises pledged.

All four terminals at Changi Airport have their own viewing gallery.

If you are that last-minute guy/gal who always arrive at the airport just in time before the check-in counter closes, I recommend that you arrive much earlier if you’re flying out from Changi Airport Singapore . I’ll tell you why.

There are SO many things to do in Changi Airport! And don’t worry if you’re on a tight budget, the most awesome places are free anyway. No wonder it’s the world’s best airport according to Skytrax in 2019!

Because I’m an ambitious traveller, I did what I should do. I spent a lot of time at the airport, trying to compile an enormous list of things to do in Changi Airport. The list is divided into 5 main categories according to their location: Jewel, Terminal 1, Terminal 2, Terminal 3 and Terminal 4.

The list includes FREE things to do as well as things that require money. It also includes both Transit Area (i.e. inside departure gate where only flying passengers are allowed to enter) and Public Area (i.e. area where everyone can access, regardless whether they’re flying or not).

Not many people know how awesome Changi Airport is, including me two years ago. You don’t want to be the last person to know that there are cinemas, swimming pool and sunflower garden in Changi Airport!

Have any questions about traveling in Singapore? Join All About Singapore Travel FB group, I'll be there to answer your questions!

Quick Tips:

  • Public Area is the area that you can enter without flying. If you’re flying out of Changi, you can visit Public Area BEFORE entering departure gate. If you’re flying into Changi, you can visit Public Area AFTER clearing immigration.
  • Transit Area is the area that you can only enter after checking-in and entering departure gate.
  • To save time, you can buy SIM Card in advance and collect upon arrival.
  • If you’re looking for budget food, go to Terminal 1 Staff Canteen , Terminal 2 Staff Canteen , Terminal 3 Kopitiam at B2, Terminal 4 Food Emporium at L2M. All are located in Public Area (the area where everyone can visit even if they’re not flying).
  • There are 6 ways to travel from Changi Airport to City

A. Things to do in Jewel

Jewel is the latest addition to Changi Airport. This incredible building is open for public, so everyone can visits even if they’re not flying. I highly recommend everyone to visit Jewel when they’re passing by Changi Airport. Here are ways to get to Jewel:

  • From MRT: Either go to T2 or T3 and follow the steps mentioned in T2 / T3 below.
  • From T1: Go to Arrival Hall (Level 1) and Jewel will be right there in front of you.
  • From T2: Go to Departure Hall (level 2) Row 1, walk through the link bridge to Jewel.
  • From T3: Go to Departure Hall (level 2) Row 11, walk through the link bridge to Jewel.
  • From T4: Take shuttle bus to T2, and follow the steps mentioned in T2 above.

Jewel is a separate building from airport terminals, everyone can access it regardless of whether they’re flying or not. If you’re flying out of Changi, you can visit Jewel BEFORE going into departure gate. If you’ve already entered departure gate, you can’t enter Jewel anymore.

1. Rain Vortex (Every floor) – HIGHLY RECOMMENDED – FREE

At 40m high, Rain Vortex is the world’s tallest indoor waterfall! If you visit during the day, you’ll get the dreamy tropical waterfall look. On the other hand, if you visit at night, you’ll enjoy the spectacular light and sound show (the show is displayed every hour from 8.30pm to midnight)

You can see the Rain Vortex at every floor of Jewel, including basement. But, the best views are those from Level 1 and above. I suggest that you start your journey from the topmost floor (Level 6) and make your way down by foot.

2. Forest Valley (Every floor) – FREE

Forest Valley is a huge multi-storey garden surrounding Rain Vortex. It has various trails with thousands of trees, shrubs and flowers. Forest Valley can be accessed at every floor and it’s open for 24 hours daily.

3. Canopy Park (Level 5) – RECOMMENDED – PAID

Located at the topmost level of Jewel, Canopy Park is said to be the wonderland for all. I have to completely agree.

The admission ticket which costs SGD 5 include the admission for these attractions:

  • Discovery Slide – a playground which is also an art and a viewing deck
  • Topiary Walk – life-sized animal topiary made from colourful flowers and plants
  • Foggy Bowls – a lawn with mystical fog and artificial grass
  • Petal Garden – the name says it all: a garden full of colourful petals
Read my detailed guide for visiting Canopy Park , which also includes Canopy Bridge, Sky Nets, Hedge Maze and Mirror Maze.

4. Canopy Bridge (Level 5) – PAID

The Canopy Bridge is probably the best place to see the Rain Vortex and Forest Valley from the top. It’s 50m long and 23m above ground. At the center portion, the floor is see-through glass panels, so if you’re an adrenaline-seeker, it’s a great place for you to feel like you’re walking among the clouds. Ticket costs SGD 8.

5. Sky Nets (Level 5) – PAID – Public Area

There are 2 nets here, bouncing nets and walking nets. Both require different tickets; if you want to visit both nets, you can consider getting a bundle. The sky nets are surely fun but you need to be very careful because the gaps are quite large for young kids. Make sure your kids are supervised while having fun on the nets.

10. Scuptural Tree Garden – RECOMMENDED (T1, Transit Area, Level 2 and 3) – FREE

I just fell in love with this garden when I first saw it. How could I not? It’s the perfect place for Instagram shots, it’s out-of-the-world, it’s just not something that you expect to find in an airport.

Basically, you can enter the garden from Level 2 or 3. It’s quite hidden and I often past by the garden without noticing it. When I visited, I was the only person at the garden, so it’s really a hidden gem in Changi Airport.

11. The Social Tree (T1, Transit Area, Level 2) – FREE

Now, this is probably the most known structure in Terminal 1. After passing the immigration, you’ll find a huge atrium where this tree is located. I just want to say THANK YOU for writing this article and I wish I stumbled across this sooner before I was at the airport few months ago! This is the only article I've read so far that explains public and transit area. I wasted so much time and met with much disappointment last time not knowing that!

Sunday 14th of January 2024

Thank you Daphne for your support!!

Wednesday 15th of March 2023

Can I explore the transit area when arriving in changi, after clearing the immigration ?

Great article, btw, very informative! 👍

Friday 17th of March 2023

Hi Wenox, yes, you can only explore transit after clearing immigration. So, if you're not flying, you can't enter transit area. Thank you!

It would be super helpful if you could update to distinguish what you can do inside vs outside the passenger area. Ie the jewel is pre checkin (or after customs if arriving) vs almost everything in the terminals (gardens, love story, butterflies, etc.) is after you get through security/ before leaving the terminal.

I trecked to terminal 2 pre checkin (unfortunately my airline doesn’t offer early checkin) to try to see the sunflower garden only to discover that I couldn’t see it. I needed to turn around and walk back to my terminal, wait til I could check in and then take the tram from there. Not so fun with a suitcase and backpack 😩

Bag storage info would also be helpful. It’s currently $15/bag, so I only paid to store one of my suitcases

Friday 14th of October 2022

Hi Christy, I did provide the label "Public Area" for activities that can be done without check-in, and "Transit Area" for activities that can be done after check-in. I also explained the definition of "Public Area" and "Transit Area" in the introduction. Maybe it wasn't clear enough for some people, I will work on improving the article, thank you so much for your feedback!

This was so helpful! One of the BEST articles I’ve read about Changi airport. I have a 15 hour layover there soon and this is helping me to plan out my time well. Thank you!

I'm glad that it's useful for you :) Have a good time in Changi Airport!

Tuesday 19th of November 2019

This is such a great share. What if you are not connecting or departing but you are arriving. Is there a place you can keep your luggage while you explore?

Yes, details here: http://www.changiairport.com/en/airport-guide/facilities-and-services/baggage-storage.html

Jewel Changi Airport

The ultimate guide to Jewel Changi Airport

Here are the best things to do, eat, and shop for at this stunning airport mall.

Cheryl Sekkappan

It's an understatement to say that Jewel Changi Airport is jaw-dropping. This stunning glass and steel dome development (by Safdie Architects, the same folks behind the iconic Marina Bay Sands), has got it all – gardens, attractions, activity, areas, retail, dining, and more. And of course, that cascading waterfall in the middle of the Shiseido Forest Valley.

A coveted stopover destination for travellers, Jewel Changi Airport is also a popular mall destination for Singaporeans. While the crazy queues seen at Jewel's initial mall opening have died down, it remains a magnet for travellers and locals in search of things to do, eat, and shop. To help you sort through Jewel Changi Airport's many offerings, here's a guide to the best things to check out.

Hike an indoor forest

Hike an indoor forest

Escape the busy airport and into a lush green sanctuary that is the Shiseido Forest Valley. Accessible from every level, the tranquil retreat is a reminder of Singapore and a garden city even before you step out of the airport. The forest valley is also the best place to stare in awe of the HSBC Rain Vortex, the largest indoor waterfall in the world – and the crown jewel of well, Jewel Changi Airport.

Catch a film

Catch a film

Live large and catch a movie at the Shaw Theatres in IMAX. Whether you're in Singapore on transit or an Eastie spending a weekend at Singapore's newest mall concept, watching a film is the best way to kill some time. Choose from the latest releases and end the day on a high, dining at one of the eateries in the mall.

Bounce on nets

Bounce on nets

Immerse yourself in the recreational wonderland that is the Canopy Park located on the top floor of Jewel. Leave your fear of heights at home and get your heart racing bouncing on nets and going down giant slides, all while taking in the views.

Check out what's blooming

Check out what's blooming

A world away from all the shops, the Petal Garden at the top of the Jewel Changi Airport is where you can enjoy creative displays of seasonal flowers from around the world. The garden in bloom will also feature some interesting installations making it one of the more Instagrammable spots in Jewel Changi Airport.

Get lost in a maze

Get lost in a maze

Weave your way around the largest hedge maze in Singapore. Don't get too cocky, we heard that you should allow yourself at least 30 minutes in the maze. At the core of it is the watchtower where you will be rewarded with some of the best views.

The Backyard Bakers

The Backyard Bakers

  • Restaurants

Bundt By The Backyard Bakers is famed for its blackout brownies – and rightfully so, as you'd be hard-pressed to find brownies as rich and chocolatey than the ones here. Now, you can get these delightful bakes in the East, at its second outlet in Jewel Changi Airport. Besides the brownies, you can also buy its fragrant madeleines, chunky banana bread, brookies (a cross between a cookie and a brownie) and beverages.

Birds of Paradise

Birds of Paradise

  • Ice-cream parlours

When you're done with shopping at In Good Company, grab a scoop from ice-creamery Birds of Paradise. There are perpetual long queues for its artisanal gelato created from herbs, fruits, spices and botanical ingredients – think flavours like Masala Spice and White Chrysanthemum – wrapped in a fragrant and freshly-made thyme-infused waffle cone.

Violet Oon

Whether you’re a tourist on the hunt for local cuisine or a Singaporean craving Peranakan comfort food when you touch down, Violet Oon Singapore is sure to hit the spot. Gather around the communal tables at the brand's biggest outlet to date and dig into  Violet's signatures like the beef rendang ($28), dry laksa ($29) and ngoh hiang ($20). Remember to get some roti prata ($2) to mop up any leftover gravy, and round off the meal with pulut hitam with coconut ice cream ($14) for dessert.

Elfuego by Collin's

Elfuego by Collin's

  • Pan-European

For an elevated Halal European dining experience, look no further than Elfuego by Collin's. Located at Jewel Changi Airport, this restaurant offers a wide spread of hot and cold appetisers, seafood mains, and charcoal-grilled meats. Start off with seared Hokkaido scallops ($20) or tuna tataki ($12) before moving on to mains that include baked Tasmanian ocean trout ($29) and Wagyu flank steak ($32). If you've got a big group of people with big appetites, then go for the hefty charcoal-grilled Australian Black Angus Tomahawk steak ($139). Want a good meal at a steal? We recommend coming for the two-course or three-course lunch set, which only costs $19.90 and $25.90 respectively.

A&W

  • Fast food outlets

After a long sixteen years since its departure from Singapore, A&W returns to make our Coney dog and root beer float dreams come true. Located at basement two of Jewel Changi Airport, the 80-seater joint is open till late, serving both famished international travellers and locals looking for a hot of nostalgia. All its classics are on the menu, including the famous root beer float ($3.50), chicken or beef coney dog ($5.20) and curly fries ($3.60). It also includes some new-to-Singapore creations that have become hits around the region. There's the Golden Aroma Chicken ($3.20) from A&W Indonesia and Cream Cheese Chicken or Beef Burger ($4.90), which are popular in its Okinawa outlets.

Shake Shack

Shake Shack

Shake Shack at Jewel Changi Airport is Singapore – and Southeast Asia's – very first outlet. Now that the insane queues have disappeared, you can comfortably head down to find out why this New York-born burger brand has grown to cult status despite its humble origins as a hot dog cart. Other than its juicy all-natural Angus beef burgers, do also try Singapore exclusives like the Pandan Shake ($7.80) or Jewela Melaka ($7.50/$9.50), a vanilla custard blended with coconut salted caramel, shortbread, gula melaka and Lemuel chocolate chunks.

Tonito

  • Pan-South American

Helmed by chef Daniel Chavez, the culinary mastermind behind Ola Cocina del Mar and Tono Cevicheria, Tonito is an all-Latin American dining experience where you can savour dishes from Mexico, Brazil, Cuba, Colombia, Argentina and beyond. As Mexican folk music plays in the background, tuck into hearty plates of tacos, quesadillas and anticuchos, Peruvian-style grilled skewers while soaking in the atmosphere and the majestic view of Jewel Changi's indoor waterfall. Hot tip: dine between 7.30pm to 8.30pm to catch the five-minute light and sound show.

Yun Nans

Taste the flavours of Southwestern China at the largest Yunnan food and beverage chain in the world. Yun Nans has over 150 outlets in China and is making Singapore, and Jewel Changi Airport, its first international outpost. The restaurant specialises in highland cuisine, as there are seven tropical belts in Yunnan, offering the region a diversity of ingredients you've probably never tried before. Yun Nans brings most of its ingredients in fresh from the province to make its signature dishes like the Steamed Pot Chicken Soup ($23.90), which uses steam and condensation to create a heady chicken broth best eaten with a plate of cold rice noodles, chicken, vegetables and egg tossed in a vinegary sauce. If you're up for a spicy challenge, get the beef stew in copper pot ($24.90), an intense beef broth filled with beef shin, tendon and offal peppered with a generous amount of chilli.

Beanfolks

Take a short break amidst all the shopping at Lemuel Chocolate’s Beanfolks– Singapore’s first-ever hot chocolate bar. With a variety of customisation options available, customers can tailor their drink to their exact preferences. Beanfolks offers seven different chocolates from different countries, and over 20 infusions ranging from vanilla to roasted rice, in an attempt to encourage customers to experiment and create their ideal chocolate flavour profile. Although most chocolate drinks tend to be rich and creamy, Beanfolks keeps it light and flavourful, avoiding an over-cloying drink even when choosing sweeter options such as white chocolate and sweet foam.

Starbucks

Not only is the Starbucks at Jewel Changi Airport the brand's first flagship store in Singapore, it's also the largest. Occupying two storeys, the outlet celebrates the journey the brand has taken in Singapore thus far, with art that highlights both the brand and local elements. If you love studying at Starbucks and the airport, this massive space offers free Wi-Fi, plenty of seats and power plugs alongside a wide selection of flagship-exclusive drinks and treats. Sample locally inspired offers like Hainanese chicken rice quinoa salad, satay chicken ciabatta and Milo tiramisu. Or if you want to stick to coffee, the store offers cups made through manual brewing methods like the Chemex or siphon brew. For something more refreshing on a hot day, check out what's on offer at its four-tap nitro bar. Favourites include the nitro flat white, nitro caramel macchiato and nitro green tea, which we dare say are smoother and richer than their hand-brewed counterparts.

Lady M

Watch the world (and Changi Airport's Skytrains) go by at Lady M's fifth local outlet. The spacious café is located along the mega-mall's wide walkway, making it an airy and open space ideal for people watching as you dig your fork into its signature mille crêpes. Also try its savoury items, including bites like crab salad on toast, cauliflower soup and chicken and pesto sandwiches.

Bring a slice of Lady M home with you, no matter your destination. The Jewel Changi boutique sells frozen mille crépe cakes as well as exclusive bon bons. There are over 23 different types available, including cocktail-inspired gummies like the Gin Tonic Casino as well as flavoured nuts and chocolates like the Cognac Orange Liqueur Chocolate. The bon bons come packed in sets of three, five and eight, and each box depicts the iconic architecture of different cities: La Mansarde (three-pack),  Paris’ Haussman-style architecture; The Brownstone (five-pack), New York City's townhouses and Qing Zhuan Dai Wa (eight-pack), Beijing's traditional hutong homes.

BOOKMARK: 14 Tourist Attractions Near Changi Airport in Singapore

Got a long layover in Singapore? by Ina Louise Manto | October 04, 2023

Singapore is a gateway to Southeast Asia and the rest of the world, making it one of the world’s busiest airports. Whether you find yourself in Changi to catch a connecting flight with time to spare or you have extra time before your hotel check-in, here are tourist attractions you can easily visit near Changi Airport.

Marina Bay area

Just 20 minutes away from Changi (via taxi), the Marina Bay area is one of the best places to visit when you have quite a lot of time to spare during your layover. In less than half an hour, you’ll be able to explore some of the country’s most popular tourist destinations, including:

Merlion Park

Location: One Fullerton, Singapore 049213

Can you really say you’ve been to Singapore without paying Merlion Park a visit? Often crowded with tourists with their mouths open as they take a photo with the landmark, the Merlion is Singapore’s icon with mythical roots. The statue with the body of a fish and the head of a lion symbolizes the country’s origins as a fishing village and its original name Singapura , which means lion city in Sanskrit. It’s easy to spot too even from afar, as the Merlion stands 8.6 meters tall.

Admission: Free

Marina Bay Sands

Location: 10 Bayfront Avenue, Singapore 018956

View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Marina Bay Sands (@marinabaysands)

You don’t even have to check in at the 55-story luxurious hotel to appreciate its architectural beauty. Take photos outside and you’re good to go!

Marina Bay Sand SkyPark

Location: Level 57, 10 Bayfront Avenue, Singapore 018956

Marina Bay Sands has three towers, which are completed by a gigantic observation deck that looks like a spaceship or surfboard. The Marina Bay Sands Park boasts 1.2 hectares of recreational space, perched 200 meters in the air. It’s one of the best places to enjoy a 360-degree unobstructed view of the city’s skyline. You’ll also find the hotel’s iconic infinity pool here, which is a popular photo spot for checked-in guests.

Admission: Starts at PHP1,260 per person. Available online .

Location: 8 Marina Boulevard #33-01 Marina Bay Financial Centre Tower 1, Singapore 018981

Looking for an elevated dining experience (literally)? While you’re in Marina Bay Sands, head to LeVel 33 to experience a unique microbrewery, restaurant, bar, and majestic views of the city. This unique rooftop dining concept offers the world’s highest urban microbrewery – perfect for beer lovers or those who are just curious about how these quality drinks are made. Even beer-brewing ingredients are incorporated into the restaurant’s mouth-watering dishes.

Singapore Flyer

Location: 30 Raffles Avenue, Singapore 039803

Here’s another way of seeing Singapore’s skyline: ride Asia’s largest giant observation wheel. Standing 42 floors high, the Singapore Flyer features 28 air-conditioned glass capsules. Feast your eyes on views of the city: from iconic landmarks to even Sentosa Island from afar.

Admission: Starts at PHP1,680 per person. Available online .

Gardens by the Bay

Location: 18 Marina Gardens Drive, Singapore 018953

View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Gardens by the Bay (@gardensbythebay)

Singapore may be known for its skyline but it remains one of the greenest cities in the world. If you want to explore one of its many parks and green spaces, heading to Gardens by the Bay is the easiest. Perfect for nature lovers and budding horticulturalists, this 101-hectare area in the Marina Bay neighborhood will take your breath away with its relaxing parks, unique structures, and waterfronts. It also has three main attractions: Cloud Forest, Flower Dome, and Supertree Grove.

Cloud Forest

Location: Gardens by the Bay

Enter a mist-filled landscape and be greeted by a towering waterfall when you visit Cloud Forest. This indoor garden features the Cloud Mountain, a 35-meter-tall structure enveloped in lush vegetation. As you climb up the structure, you’ll learn and discover various tropical plants.

Admission: Starts at PHP 840 per person. Available online .

Flower Dome

Flower Dome is another indoor garden that will make you feel like you stepped into a fairytale. The 1.28-hectare space is the World’s Largest Glass Greenhouse, featuring flowers and plants from five continents. All the walkways are photo-worthy!

Supertree Grove

Aside from its domes, one of the most distinct attractions at Gardens by the Bay is the Supertree Grove. If you’ve seen the Hollywood movie Crazy Rich Asians , you’ll recognize these gigantic trees as one of the filming locations in the movie. The Supertrees feature 25-50-meter vertical gardens, offering views of surrounding parks and walkways. At night, don’t forget to catch Garden Rhapsody, a stunning lights and sound show.

ArtScience Museum

Location: 6 Bayfront Ave, Singapore 018974

View this post on Instagram   A post shared by ArtScience Museum (@artsciencemuseumsg)

Singapore is home to plenty of galleries and museums, and ArtScience Museum is the easiest one to access especially if you have limited time. As its name suggests, the museum combines science and art to create unique and world-class exhibitions. The museum also houses touring exhibitions, collaborating with organizations like the American Museum of Natural History.

Admission: Starts at PHP1,008 per person. Available online .

Joo Chiat neighborhood

For a cultural and historic experience, head to the Joo Chiat neighborhood. This culturally rich neighborhood is home to the iconic and colorful Peranakan Houses, as well as shophouses. These beautifully preserved historical gems boast a mix of cultural influences: European, Malay, and Chinese. Whether you want to take a relaxing stroll, shop, or dine, you can find them all here.

Location: 18 Raffles Quay, Singapore 048582

No Singapore visit is complete without experiencing the hawker culture, which will let you go on a fun gastronomical experience. Also known as Telok Ayer Market, Lau Pa Sat also blends history and architecture in one venue. In fact, it’s been a national monument since 1973! The best thing about Lau Pa Sat is that it’s open 24 hours , allowing visitors to choose from Singaporean, Chinese, Malay, Indian, etc. cuisines.
