Getaway Cash Travel Credits

Our mission:

Make sure you are so happy with our service, your holiday and the value received that you are willing to give us a 5-star review on Product Review and Google.

Getaway Cash travel credits represent and measure the VALUE you receive as a member. For example, they pay for the time we put into planning, booking, and organizing your holidays as well as documentation and administration, arranging travel insurance and so on. Normally, if you organize a trip through a traditional travel agency you would pay a 20 to 40% premium for their services.

Your GCash credits can also be used towards things like accommodation, airport transfers, activities and tours wherever possible. The overall advantage to you is you pay an average of 25% less than full retail; potentially as much as 40% less. We back this up with our 15% World-wide Savings Guarantee as our assurance of value.

The real value to you of course is we take care of all the details so you can just relax and enjoy your holiday knowing everything has been handled professionally for you.

Here's how your travel credits are applied...

When we plan a holiday for you, we work out how much GCash travel credits can be applied towards the total price, including any travel services involved. The amount you pay is reduced accordingly by deducting travel credits from your membership account.

Example travel package

Full retail value (including professional agency services): $3,900 Less Getaway Cash travel credits: $975 Amount you pay: $2,925

Maximum GCash usage: Up to 40% of full retail value. The average is around 25%.

"Full retail value" (aka. "normal retail price") is the price of either (a) a competing travel quote or (b) what we estimate you would pay for your customised travel plan through another travel company offering similar inclusions and services, or (c) the non-member price of a pre-packaged itinerary. The amount of Getaway Cash that can be used is entirely at our discretion. Standard price and full retail value comparisons are with similar packages offered elsewhere or what we estimate would be payable by a non-member for the same or similar package and may include a value we define for specialty travel agency services .

Accommodation

We often receive requests to price accommodation at a member's preferred or selected hotel or resort.

We have access to member rates at thousands of properties world-wide. However, we do not have access to member rates at every property in Australia or the rest of the world.

Therefore it is essential that you are flexible in regard to the property if you want us to submit a proposal. If you are not flexible, and we do not have access to member rates at your specific property, we will not be able to use GCash credits towards the booking price and we will not supply pricing.

On the other hand, if you are flexible, we will usually be able to find a great value property that will suit you.

Getaway Cash travel credits are applied towards the price on the same basis that is used for travel packages.

Terms & Conditions

The following terms and conditions apply to the use of Getaway Cash discount travel credits (also called "GCash") and are subject to change without notice. By purchasing or agreeing to proceed with a travel or accommodation package, making a travel and/or accommodation enquiry or booking with Travel Directions Pty Ltd ("Australian Escapes") and/or engaging the services of Australian Escapes in any other way you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions as well as our standard booking conditions and any reasonable amendments.

PURPOSE OF GCASH

The Getaway Cash (GCash) travel credits system is a method of obtaining and measuring the value of travel services and savings offered by Australian Escapes.

GCash credits may only be used for the purposes we describe in member information and cannot be redeemed for cash, goods or services except as we specify. You can use your GCash credits towards the following types of travel:

The following booking types do not qualify:

  • Activities, car hire, cruise and tour excursions except where part of a larger package.

* It is important to understand that we have access to member rates at hundreds of properties in Australia and thousands world-wide. But we do not have access to member rates at every property. See "Can I find a resort/hotel and you will discount it with GCash" in the Website FAQ's... .

GCash may be used towards accommodation and travel up to a limit set by us on a case-by-case basis according to the normal retail price of the package. Each time you make a booking we use GCash travel credits from your account towards your holiday. The amount used is based on the amount of retail margin in the package. Getaway Cash cannot be used to get a free holiday.

FULL RETAIL VALUE

"Full retail value", also referred to as "normal retail price", is the price of either (a) a competing travel quote or (b) the retail price we estimate that you would pay for your customised travel plan through another travel company offering the same level of service, or (c) the non-member price of a pre-packaged itinerary. The amount of Getaway Cash that can be used is entirely at our discretion.

INTEREST CREDITS

(Applies to Platinum membership and above.) You must remain a member of Australian Escapes Holiday & Club (Travel Directions Pty Ltd) to accumulate interest credits on the balance of your Getaway Cash account and to be entitled to other benefits offered to members. "Interest" is paid in the form of Getaway Cash travel credits and is calculated at 10% of the remaining Value Guarantee balance. A maximum of 2,000 interest credits can be earned.

Saving Guarantee

World-wide savings Guarantee

Note: By requesting a price-beat you are under no obligation to place a booking with us or proceed with the final travel package as the case may be. A non-refundable deposit is required in the case of a tour/travel package price-beat (see below).

The following terms and conditions apply to travel plans and accommodation quotes requested from and supplied by Travel Directions Pty. Ltd. trading as Global Escapes Travel, Australian Escapes Holiday & Travel Club (Australian Escapes) and Kiwi Escapes (the company) and are subject to change without notice. These conditions are to be read in conjunction with our standard booking conditions and conditions applicable to Australian Escapes Holiday & Travel Club membership as defined in website FAQs.

1. ACCOMMODATION-ONLY

There are two main scenarios:

(1) You request a price-beat on a specific property. Our objective is to provide at least 15% more total value or a price that is 15% lower than a competitor quote supplied to us for the same accommodation property, on the same conditions and with the same inclusions, provided we have access to be able to book the accommodation through our normal supplier channels.

If we do not have access to member rates that property we will offer an alternative that is of the same or higher standard, as per our hotel rating system and that meets the stated requirements, subject to availability, and subject to the following:

  • Any price supplied is an estimate only and is subject to our standard booking conditions .
  • The price beat and inclusion details will be confirmed in a travel plan.

(2) We propose a property with member pricing: If the "you pay" price we submit is already discounted using GCash travel credits and the lowest available price at the time it was submitted, it does not qualify. Otherwise our objective is to provide at least 15% more total value or a price that is 15% lower than a competitor quote supplied to us for the same accommodation property, on the same conditions and with the same inclusions.

A price-beat will be deemed successful and this guarantee is therefore met when the applicable objective is achieved.

2. TRAVEL & TOUR PACKAGES

Inclusions in travel and tour packages assembled by competitor travel agents, tour companies, wholesalers, online travel promoters will all be different in some way. Packages will typically vary by inclusions, validity, suppliers, component type, standard, terms and conditions, travel date, etc ("package components").

Our objective in this type of price-beat situation is to assemble a package containing similar and/or higher value package components to that which you present to us. We guarantee to offer at least 15% more total value (through added value) or a price that is 15% lower than the competitor quote ("successful price-beat") subject to the following:

  • Any package components that are exclusive to specific suppliers to which we do not have access will not be included.
  • Alternative supplier products of a substantially similar type and standard may be included.
  • Accommodation may be in a different but similar location.
  • The price-beat may be based on alternative travel and departure dates.
  • This guarantee does not apply to flight-only or cruise-only bookings. The booking type must qualify for Getaway Cash travel credits usage (refer to website FAQs).
  • Added value may include travel services supplied by the company.
  • Added value may be treated as a price deduction for the purposes of the price-beat.
  • Any price supplied is an estimate only.

A price-beat will be deemed successful and this guarantee is therefore met when the above objective is achieved.

3. GENERAL CONDITIONS

The price-beat must be requested before you place a booking with any other travel agent, online booking agent or property direct in relation to the subject accommodation or package.

A price-beat may be requested by providing clear, written evidence of the competitor quote as well as your requirements to an employee of the company who performs a reservations or travel consultant role ("company contact") as follows:

  • Your exact booking requirements including travel/booking date range(s), number and age of travellers and special requirements if any.
  • The price-beat request and any subsequent travel plan and/or booking is subject to our standard booking conditions .

A competitor quote presented under this guarantee must be genuine (not contrived) and must be a final, fixed price, backed by verifiable evidence. A competitor quote that we determine is not genuine or final is excluded. The requested date range(s) for travel/tour commencement as well as for individual package components must be realistic and flexible.

5. TRAVEL/TOUR PACKAGE DEPOSIT GUARANTEE

This condition applies to travel/tour packages only. We require up to $900 deposit per person (amount depending on package complexity) as a guarantee that you will proceed with the travel plan after we are successful with the price/value beat. This requirement exists because of the amount of travel consultant time required to price according to a competitor quote.

  • The deposit amount will be deducted from the price if you proceed.
  • The deposit amount will be refunded in the event that the proposed travel dates are not within the requested date range(s).
  • Subject to 5.2, if you do not proceed, the deposit amount will be forfeited.

5. MEMBERSHIP TO BE CURRENT

Your Australian Escapes Holiday & Travel Club membership must be Gold level or above and active and paid up at the time of requesting the price beat.

Day 1- Arrive Sydney

Welcome to Australia! On arrival, you will have a private car transfer to the boat.

Day 2 - Newcastle

In 1770, Captain James Cook christened Nobbys Headland on his journey north along the Australian coast. The European settlement of Newcastle, however, began 17 years later when Lt. John Shortland sailed up a fine broad river while searching for escaped convicts.

Shortland named the stream the Hunter River after Australia’s then Governor-General. During that short voyage, the lieutenant also discovered vast deposits of coal. In 1804, the burgeoning mining settlement and lumber port were christened Newcastle after the famed English coal city. Newcastle, Australia, also served as a gateway to the rich lands of the Hunter Valley – a region producing internationally acclaimed wines by the mid-19th century.

Christ Church Cathedral is the symbol of Newcastle. The restored church has survived both a devastating earthquake and Japanese attack. In 1942, the Japanese submarine I-21 surfaced to shell the city and its dockyards.

Day 6 - Airlie Beach

Airlie Beach is your gateway to the Whitsunday Archipelago. These 74 islands feature pristine fringing reefs, calm, lagoon-like waters, and superb beaches. The archipelago is one of Australia’s premier playgrounds.

The Whitsundays were once mountains. Rising seas at the end of the Ice Age formed the Whitsunday Passage between the islands and the mainland.

Easy Airlie Beach

This whirlwind tour around Airlie Beach is an ideal way to get to know this treasured tropical town. From the Port of Airlie, your coach will head to Cannonvale Beach, a tranquil beachfront suburb where you can snap a couple of photos at a scenic vantage point. Then it’s off to Shute Harbor Lookout for more amazing views over the tranquil Whitsunday waters before venturing into the heart of Airlie Beach township. Disembark in the center of town and from here you can make your way to the Airlie Beach markets for souvenir shopping or to the beach front or lagoon for a dip in the water to cool off. Those who disembark have the option to take either a shuttle bus or a short walk back to the pier later in the day at your leisure. Guests not wanting to disembark can return straight back to the pier.

Glass-bottom Boat

Take off on a voyage of discovery as you venture out onto the cerulean waters of Shute Harbour. Your tour starts with a short coach transfer to Shute Harbour, where you’ll board the glass bottom boat. Once you take your seat under the canopy and gaze through the glass bottom, you’ll delight in the fascinating up-close peek at this startling underwater world. Day 7 - Willis Island

This tiny island measures in at just 1,600 feet long by 490 feet wide, though it is the only permanently inhabited island in the Coral Sea Islands Territory. You won’t find any neighborhoods, schools, or homes here, however. The only structures on Willis Island comprise a weather monitoring station hosted by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology, where just a handful of weather observers reside at any given time.

Willis Island is one of several tropical islands sitting beyond the Great Barrier Reef in the Coral Sea Islands Territory, and is surrounded by thriving reefs where many creatures make their homes. Numbering into the thousands, Willis Island itself caters to many species of seabirds, including Masked, Brown and Red-footed Boobies that cry out nearly 24 hours a day. It is also an important nesting ground for turtles.

Note: Willis Island is a scenic cruising site. Ships will slowly travel past while a knowledgeable port lecturer points out significant sites you’ll be able to see from onboard.

Day 8 - Port Douglas

In 1877, the aptly named James Venture Mulligan struck pay dirt on the Hodgkinson River, igniting the fabled North Queensland Gold Rush. At the height of the boom, Port Douglas boasted 12,000 residents and 27 hotels. Bust inevitably followed boom, and Port Douglas slid into decades of obscurity. Then came a second gold rush in the 1980s as tourists flocked to the North Queensland Coast. Located between the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area and the Great Barrier Reef, Port Douglas provides a perfect gateway for hardy adventurers en route to rainforests and reefs.

In addition to its nearby scenic wonders, Port Douglas boasts several resorts, ranging from the Sheraton Mirage to the Daintree Eco Lodge and Spa in the heart of the rainforest.

Note: Port Douglas is an anchorage port. Passengers transfer to shore via the ship’s tender.

Wet Tropic Wildlife & Crocodile Cruise

Discover Tropical North Queensland’s unique wildlife with a visit to the award winning Wildlife Habitat. Enjoy a casual lunch, then take a Croc-spotting cruise along the Daintree River.

Lunch with the Lorikeets

Lunch has never been so wild and fun. Wildlife Habitat, Australia’s leading environmental wildlife rescue program, is the setting for an exceptional half-day excursion that offers a casual lunch while observing lorikeets and other birdlife as they fly and roam freely. What is a lorikeet? A small to medium-sized parrot famed for its brilliant blue, green, red, yellow, and deep purple plumage. After lunch, you’re free to enjoy the Grassland Habitat, which includes kangaroo and wallaby feeding areas (you can pat and hand feed them, too); the Wetland Habitat, where you’ll find cute koalas; and the Rainforest Habitat, home of the large, flightless cassowary bird, which is classified as endangered. The Wildlife Habitat also boasts freshwater crocodiles and larger estuarine crocodiles. For the brave heart, you can purchase a souvenir photo holding one of their small crocodiles or perhaps a snake. After browsing the gift shop, reboard your motorcoach for the return drive to your waiting ship.

Day 11 - Darwin

Closer to Indonesia than to any other Australian city, Darwin is the capital of the “Top”End”—the remote, vast Northern Territory. Home to more than half of the territory’s population, the city reflects the rugged endurance and individualism required to survive the Outback. Darwin also boasts a colorful history to add to that heritage. During World War II, the Japanese bombed the city and threatened an invasion. In 1974, Cyclone Tracy cut a destructive swath through the region. In addition, man-eating crocodiles, tropical monsoons, searing heat, and bush fires that burn for weeks are all part of everyday life.

Locals in the Top End consume over 60 gallons of beer a year. All those empties don’t go to waste: Each year, Darwin residents compete in the Beer Can Regatta, a race with boats, rafts, and other vessels manufactured out of beer cans.

Darwin City Explorer

Get to know the artistic side of Darwin with visits to two cultural attractions and a fully-narrated sightseeing tour. After boarding your air-conditioned coach, you’ll ride down the esplanade while uncovering the history of this top-end town, which has a unique tropical character all of its own. Your route takes you past Darwin’s notable historic buildings and sites involved in the bombing of Darwin during World War II. You’ll stop for views and photos at the scenic East Point, Darwin’s western-most point and, once the site of heavy WWII fortifications. Then, explore the George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens, known for its collections of north Australian and other tropical species. Your tour continues on to the Museum & Art Gallery of the Northern Territory for a self-guided tour. Among the million natural history specimens and over 30,000 items of art is a collection of Aboriginal art and artifacts.

Territory Wildlife Park

Thrill to the majesty of seeing Australia’s wild animals in their natural habitat during this Animal Planet Recommended excursion. The excitement begins as you leave the outer suburbs of Darwin and enter the Outback’s desert landscape en route to Territory Wildlife Park. Upon arrival, you can board an open-air shuttle train or choose to walk the trails to visit each attraction. The park boasts a walk-through aquarium where barramundi, whip rays and other fresh water species glide gracefully above and beside you. Come nose-to-nose with a giant freshwater croc, continue on through the coastal mangrove communities and then onto the coral reefs, where you’ll see an astonishing variety of corals and fish. And the Monsoon Forest Walk goes through an area supported by the springs that flow into Berry Creek, which is traditionally significant to the local Aboriginal people. After visiting the park, reboard your motorcoach and return to Darwin.

Day 13 - Kimberley Coast

Located in the northern part of Western Australia, Kimberley is one of the continent’s earliest settled regions, dating as far back as 40,000 years. But although its mainland has been inhabited for centuries, its over 8,000 miles of ruggedly beautiful coastline remain so unspoiled that the Kimberley Coast has been identified as one of the least impacted marine environments in the world.

Healthy reefs and incredible biodiversity make the Kimberley Coast a prime spot for marine wildlife viewing, from sea turtles to blue crabs, manta rays and the planet’s largest population of humpback whales.

Approaching the Kimberley Coast from the Indian Ocean, you’ll make out dramatic red cliffs that stand out in stark contrast to the aquamarine waters of the fringing reefs below. More than 2,600 islands are scattered beyond the reefs, serving as nesting grounds to a variety of seabirds, including cormorants, giant Australian pelicans and Red-footed Boobies. The islands also provide breathtaking scenery in one of the world’s most extensive coastal wilderness areas – and the best way to take it all in is from the sea!

Day 14 - Broome

In the 1870s, pearl fishermen discovered the rich waters of Roebuck Bay. A decade later, Broome was founded as a base for the pearl trade and was soon described as “the pearling capital of the world.” Japanese, Chinese, and Aborigine divers toiled in arduous, dangerous labor to harvest oysters from the seabed. For all its importance to the pearling industry, Broome remained a remote outpost on Australia’s Kimberley Coast until its discovery as a travel destination. The legacy of its pearling days can be seen in the town’s colorful mix of 19th- and early-20th-century buildings. Broome also boasts Cable Beach – a 13-mile strand of white-sand that stretches along the azure waters of the Indian Ocean.

Pirate William Dampier was the first European to visit Western Australia. Dampier, who circumnavigated the globe three times, landed near Broome in 1688 and again in 1699.

Easy Broome

Enjoy a leisurely, narrated tour of Broome from your air conditioned coach. You will see Chinatown and the landmark Sun Picture Theater, Captain Gregory’s House, the Broome Historical Museum and Mangrove Point, with stops at Pioneer Park, the Japanese Cemetery and Scenic Outlook.

Willie Creek Pearl Farm

Discover the fascinating world of pearl farming on a scenic tour of Willie Creek Pearl Farm. Upon arrival, your guide will share the secrets of how these rare and beautiful cultured pearls are produced. You will also learn how to evaluate the luster, shape and value of individual pearls and see how oysters are seeded. After the demonstration, you will climb aboard a boat for a tour of the oyster beds. Under these waters is the breeding ground for the famous Pinctada Maxima oyster, which is the only oyster that produces South Sea pearls. This oyster can grow up to a foot in diameter and can produce a lustrous pearl ranging from 9 millimeters to 20 millimeters. Before returning to the ship, you will have a chance to visit the showroom to see exquisite handmade jewelry featuring Broome pearls, diamonds and Western Australian gold.

Nearly 45 years later, the base remains a top-secret installation. The Australians, however, discovered the North Cape’s strategic importance as a travel destination. Here, rugged mountains and stony gorges descend to stunning beaches. Australia’s longest fringing reef lies just offshore. Its crystalline waters boast great fishing, and whale sharks are frequently encountered basking on the surface between April and July.

Day 20 - Albany

On December 26, 1826, Boxing Day, Major Edmund Lockyer and his party of convicts and soldiers landed at Princess Royal Harbor to establish a penal colony. Originally named Frederickstown in honor of the Duke of York and Albany, the first European settlement in Western Australia was renamed Albany in 1832. Thanks to its superb harbor, the town quickly became a busy port. Albany served as a coaling station for steam ships, as a commercial outlet for the rich farms of the interior, and as a base for the highly profitable whaling industry. The whaling station at Frenchman Bay was the last whaling station in all of Australia, closing in 1978. Today, it is home to Whale World, one of the world’s largest whaling museums.

Through our own clients and networking clubs we have realized a general desire for women to travel but they don’t always have a companion. We developed the Women’s Travel Club for these women to have a fun and safe group to travel with. We offer a wide range of destinations, so that there is something for everyone.

We have women of all ages, with the average being 45 to 65 years. However, we do have regular travelers anywhere from 30 years to over 80 years of age.

We do not include international flights in the price of our tours. Not including the cost of international flights in the cost of the tour allows members the flexibility to get the flight schedule, price and class of service that best suits them. The Women's Travel Club flight desk will be happy to help arrange your international flights.

Yes, we always negotiate the best possible single supplement rate for our trips. Single spots fill quickly and may be limited so we suggest you book early for a single spot.

Yes, each of our booking forms has an area for you to request to be matched with a roommate. We get some general information that will help us match you with a great new friend.

From Deserts to Reefs

G’day, every day, Australia! Beaches to “barbies,” koalas to wallabies, Outback to ocean…where to begin your Australia tour on this island-country-continent? Travel in Australia and you'll find unique wildlife and dramatic landscapes, no doubt. Or perhaps the sun-kissed Harbour City of Sydney, Melbourne’s art scene or Barossa Valley’s world-class wineries. Go as far back as Aboriginal life in places like Ayers Rock and Alice Springs to discover how to survive in the bush, throw boomerangs and play a didgeridoo. Whatever your fancy, Australia welcomes you.

Destination must-see's.

Australia ms1

Ayers Rock (Uluru):

You will find this towering sandstone rock formation rising from the desert floor in the southern part of the Northern Territory of central Australia. It sits in a remote part of the Outback 208 miles southwest of the nearest large town, Alice Springs. The rock is one of Australia’s most recognizable natural landmarks and rises 1,142 feet… making it 2,381 feet above sea level.

Australia ms2

The most populous city in Australia is located on Australia’s east coast. This lively metropolis is surrounded by one of the world’s largest natural harbors. The first British settlers founded the city of Sydney in 1788, but it is said that the area had been inhabited for many years. Millions of tourists visit Sydney each year to see its natural features such as Sydney Harbour and Bondi Beach, as well as its man-made marvels like the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Australia ms3

The city was founded on August 30, 1835 and is located on a large natural bay – Port Phillip. Today it is often referred to as Australia’s cultural capital because of its renowned performing and visual arts scenes. Melbourne is known as the birthplace of Australian dance styles, the Australian film industry, Australian impressionist art and the Australian television industry.

Australia ms4

Kakadu National Park:

This protected area in the Northern Territory of Australia is about 100 miles east of Darwin. It is the largest national park in Australia covering 7,646 square miles, and measuring nearly 125 miles from north to south and 62 miles from east to west. The park is roughly half the size of Switzerland. Kakadu features many diverse landscapes perfect for outback adventure travel, nature activities and most of all, experiencing aboriginal culture.

Destination Must-Do's

Australia md1

Great Barrier Reef:

Experience one of the seven wonders of the natural world when you set off by boat for the Great Barrier Reef. As the world’s largest living organism, you’ll find over 2,800 individual coral reef systems which are home to amazingly diverse marine life. Their bright colors look remarkable against the turquoise waters. Jump in the water to snorkel and really experience the Reef in an immersive way! Stroll along the shore, relax on the beach, or just watch the fish and sea turtles swim past from the pier. It’s a truly good day at the Reef, mate.

Australia md2

Barossa Valley:

The valley located in South Australia is known as a major wine-producing region. In fact, it is renowned as one of the finest wine producing regions in the world. Located about 37 miles northeast of Adelaide, the valley is formed by the North Pala River, is home to more than 550 growers, and is famous for its Shiraz.

Australia md3

This island state that includes the island of Tasmania and the surrounding 334 islands is 150 miles south of the Australian mainland, separated by the Bass Strait. It may be famous for its Tasmanian Devil but it is also very eco-conscious with 45% of its land being reserves, national parks and World Heritage sites.

Australia md4

Phillip Island Penguin Parade

The little penguin is the smallest species of penguin. They are found on the coastlines of southern Australia and New Zealand. In Australia they are often called fairy penguins and in New Zealand they are known as little blue penguins or blue penguins. These penguins emerge from the shore at Phillip Island nearly every evening and make their way to their evening resting spots.

How GAFFL Works

Find travel partners, get connected, trip together.

Rosa

What GAFFL Users Are Saying

Marie

"It’s really nice to have a platform like GAFFL with lots of travelers wanting to do the same as you, a real beautiful cultural exchange. You can meet people so easily and in a trustful way. We were four girls, from French, German and American backgrounds, without knowing each other from before. We spent an amazing week together, 2000km driving, camping on the way. We saw kangaroos, koalas, penguins and pelicans"

Saed

“I have found GAFFL to be an amazing tool for finding similar minded travel partners to embark on an adventure. Through GAFFL, I had organized a trip to Mexico City last month and Quazi joined the trip from Victoria, BC. We spent 14 days of straight exploring, hiking, eating and drinking. Quite an amazing experience - all thanks to GAFFL!”

Scarlett

"I accidentally scrolled across GAFFL and I'm so pleased I did. I met Amaia and immediately decided to road-trip together. We're spending 10 days together and it's great because we have so much in common. Couldn't have done it without GAFFL helping us find one another! It has honestly made NZ so much cheaper to explore as I get to split the costs with someone too"

Were you looking forward to a trip with your friends, only to find out that they had backed out last minute? Wondering how to find a travel companion online? Even if your family and friends' schedules don't match yours, your vacation doesn't have to be ruined because of it. GAFFL can help you to find the perfect travel companion for your next adventure.

The best way to find a travel buddy on GAFFL is to search for your desired destination and browse through thousands of user-generated trips created by solo travelers around the world.

travel club australia

A good travel companion is someone who has a similar itinerary to you. It's also someone you think you'll get along with.

Every user on GAFFL has a profile where they list their interests. If you and your potential trip mate share some common interests, it’ll make your trip go a lot smoother.

It's also important to have a similar budget in mind. If your travel companion wants to do more activities and eat at expensive restaurants but you can’t afford it, it can lead to an unpleasant trip for the both of you.

When browsing trips on GAFFL, make sure to read through the trip details to learn more about the trip and determine if the activities are something you want to do and can afford.

If you like a trip on GAFFL, simply click 'Connect,' and you'll be able to chat with your travel buddy right away. If you have your own travel plans, you can start your own trip and others can request to connect with you!

Finding the right travel companion online can be difficult for solo travelers. GAFFL, on the other hand, makes it very simple. Use our world-class real-time messaging system to get to know your potential travel partner. Chat with them to see if they'd be a good travel companion for you, and then plan together, meet up with your travel buddy, and start exploring together.

travel club australia

GAFFL is the best website/app for solo travelers looking for travel companions online because we prioritize our travelers' trust and safety. Our multi-step verification process includes social media, phone number, and a valid government ID, so you can be confident in your potential travel companion. With adventurers from over 190 countries, you can connect, chat, and find the perfect travel buddy to meet up with on GAFFL.

Solo travel is great. But there are some times that I do not recommend someone travel solo and where I personally try my hardest not to travel solo. Some examples of this relate to safety, like hiking a trail that doesn’t have many people walking it each day, or being in certain destinations where I’ve heard from others that it’s difficult as a solo female.

Other examples relate to expenses, like taking a road trip and renting a car. Situations like these are where I think something like GAFFL is a great idea. With GAFFL, you can find a group to go on that hike with or split that car rental with!

I think this is a fabulous idea because the things that can get expensive while solo traveling can usually also be easily split between people. If you aren’t a hostel fan, it would be awesome to have people to split hotels and Airbnb with.

If car rental is the cheapest way to get around a destination, it would be ideal to have others to split the costs with. But most importantly it always makes the experience that much more memorable when you have new friends to share it with.

One of the things that hold people back is that they don’t have a partner or a best friend to travel with and they feel scared and uncertain to travel alone, especially long-term. GAFFL helps with that!

Another thing that holds people back is the perceived cost of travel. While travel doesn’t have to be expensive, it’s always more affordable when you can share the cost of accommodation and groceries with someone else. Again, GAFFL provides a solution for that!

I think GAFFL plays a role by allowing solo travelers to find travel buddies when needed. Though solo travel is a great way to travel, there are some experiences that are better enjoyed with more people (some don’t even allow for solo).

Friends and families are not always available to travel with, and sometimes the interests do not align for travel. Or sometimes you just want to socialize while still being solo most of the time. I think GAFFL helps solve these problems.

We truly believe that the best memories and experiences are the ones that are shared with others. It doesn’t matter if you’ve known someone for an hour or your whole life, when you do something badass together it’s sure to be a time you won’t forget.

Making connections and becoming friends with people all over the world is such a powerful tool to have when traveling. One day maybe you’ll visit your new friend in their homeland. Some of the best trips happen when you have a friend playing tour guide in their country.

GAFFL is a really cool opportunity to enrich your travels with like-minded people who will push you to get out of your comfort zone. No matter what type of personality you have, making new friends on the road is easier than ever.

Why I Love Cable Beach in Broome, Western Australia

This is the view of Cable Beach in Broome, Western Australia. The landscape is vast and seemingly endless.

The 22km beach is wide enough that during low tide in May Australia’s only beach polo event is held on the flat sands here.

Despite being a popular beach in Broome and is always bustling with people, it’s sheer size and enormity means everyone can spread out and enjoy the tranquility without stepping on each others toes.

Cable Beach is my favorite beach in Australia, and it’s not just because of the sheer amount of attractions you can do there, but because it has beauty, history, and was the backdrop for fond memories.

Why I Love Cable Beach, Broome

Here are some of the main reasons why I love Cable Beach…

Cable Beach in Broome is iconic

It’s deserving of its regular spot in the best beaches of the world list.

It’s perfect for beach cricket, 4WD tailgating, camel rides, long walks and runs and swims, morning meditation and just lazing and gazing.

Crystal clear waters, rock pools, bars, food, a kiosk – what more could you ask for in a beach?

It has a fabulous grassed area for the evening picnic and a playground for the kids – romance or family, action or relaxation.

Sunsets at Gantheaume Point

Around to the south of Cable Beach, you can vaguely make out the red cliffs of Gantheaume Point, a beautiful spot to walk where even the dinosaurs have walked. Yep, there’s footprints to prove it.

Gantheaume Point is often very quiet and provides the perfect spot for meditation by the ocean or just to go for a walk under a red rock cliff face overlooking a white sandy beach.

It’s especially spectacular at sunset, but any time of day is worth the short drive on the unsealed road, or you can even walk the length of beach if you’re up for it.

We didn’t see this but there’s another track which leads to a cast of dinosaur footprints at the bottom of the cliff, but you have to go at low tide to see them.

I’m sure they would be a hit with the kids. Next time.

The Camel Rides

To the north, you’ll find the iconic Cable Beach camels slowly saunter along the hard sand in front of the setting sun, lighting the sky in shades of red and pink.

There are three tour companies that offer camel rides, but they all offer the same package and have similar prices, so it doesn’t really matter which ones you choose.

Each company is differentiated by different colored blankets. We went with Broome Camel Safaris who have the blue blankets.

The sunset rides are the most famous, but you can also get up early and enjoy morning rides which are shorter and less busy.

Note: There’s a 90kg individual weight limit for those who want to enjoy a camel ride.

Cheap Drinks at Surf Club

This is a true secret squirrel tip from us, so do not tell anyone!

If you can swing a member to sign you in, the Surf Club is the CHEAPEST place in Broome to come for a drink and is the most chilled with the BEST views.

We became regular weekly visitors – first to arrive, last to leave.

Grab your plastic table and chairs, bring your own snacks and enjoy the $6 drinks with the locals as you watch nature’s last great act for the evening over the Indian Ocean.

Alternatively, many people fight for seating positions at Sunset Gril at the Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa , but it’s further back from the ocean, and a lot pricier.

Amazing Sunsets

If you have never viewed an ocean sunset, Cable Beach will not disappoint.

With colours ranging from purples and golds to fiery reds, even your camera will have a smile on its face.

We’d arrive at the Surf Club after a short walk from our Villa – the girls powering along on their scooters.

Sometimes it was just us, other times we were there creating memories with new friends (of course we let them in on our secret too).

It’s the perfect place to sit and enjoy a sunset over Cable Beach.

Sometimes I’d walk past the cute building going down the ramp to spend another afternoon on the beach building sand castles, boogie boarding and avoiding being stung by jelly fish.

Note: Kalyra was stung twice in Cable Beach, no tears, but a wicked slashing mark on her thigh. The lifesavers were sweet in helping her and sharing all their wisdom about Broome stingers, crocs and sharks. We were in Broome during the safe time to swim season.

Year Round Sunshine

With months on end of perfect sunshine, there is no better place to enjoy a beach holiday. It only rains for 53 days a year , so you can always count on Broome to offer a sunny beach holiday.

You can hire beach chairs and umbrellas and just chill out on Cable Beach. It’s the best place to be in Broome as it gets the breeze to blow away that sticky heat that can get quite stifling in Broome Town.

Why do I love Broome so much?

So I guess you can tell I’m in love with Cable Beach. I’m in love with Broome. I’m in love with Western Australian sunsets . I’m in love with making memories with my family and new friends.

This is Broome. My favourite place in Australia . No comparisons or competition.

I love Broome because it’s the exotic flavour of Asia, mixed with the rugged Australian outback and the chilled out Aussie beach living all rolled into one.

It’s raw and harsh, peaceful and hypnotic, acceptance and grace.

You can be who you want in Broome.

Enjoy nature. Good food and wine. Rest and play. Smile and wave. Worship the sun. Earth yourself in the red dust.

You won’t understand until you arrive.

Once you do, you’ll be graced with the inherent knowing that you’re walking into a sacred place unlike any other.

Mind you, many people arrive after a brutal Outback drive from Darwin – kilometres of rugged inland escarpments, gorges, baking temperatures, gravel roads and red dusts.

Broome is the oasis you never want to leave again.

Where to Stay in Broome

We’re big fans of vacation rentals when we travel because they provide more comfort and space.

Sometimes you just need a full-kitchen, your own bathroom, separate bedrooms for the kids, and a dining room to use as an office. Oh, and a TV never goes astray every now and then to keep the kids entertained for an hour.

We found a 2 bedroom villa at the RAC Holiday Park in Broome , which was the perfect place to stay for a week in Broome. The villa was spacious, bright, and right across the road from the beach.

Out the back garden was a swimming pool the kids could jump in as an alternative to the beach, not sure if they were happier about that or having access to our own TV – it’s been a while.

Not only was it a 5-minute walk to the beach, but also an easy walk to Zanders , the Sunset Bar and the Surf Club . And right across the road was a cafe (good fish & chips) and Divers Tavern and bottle shop – super handy for the essential beer and wine supplies!

If you’re looking for an alternative to a hotel room or cabin within walking distance to world famous Cable Beach, this is a great place to stay.

Mantra Frangipani, Cable Beach

We loved the outdoor shower feature of the  Mantra Frangipani, Cable Beach .

The villas have everything you need and is tucked away in a quieter part of Cable Beach, not that it gets very busy or noisy. It’s an easy bike ride or walk to the beach.

You’ve also got a swimming pool.

Palm Grove Holiday Resort

Palm Grove Holiday Resort  was our home for nearly a month. This Broome campground is only a block back from Cable beach and a short walk, or bike ride to the surf club.

There’s a small pool, which we got a lot of use out of, and is family friendly. We loved our shady possy right next to the pool!

This is a great place to stay if you are camping.
