Entry and Exit

Singaporeans are eligible for visa on arrival in Qatar. The visa on arrival is valid for 30 days from the date of issuance and can be extended for an additional 30 days. As visa requirements could change at short notice, we advise you to contact your travel agency or the Embassy of Qatar in Singapore for the latest information.

Visitors are not required to undergo COVID-19 pre-departure test for entry into Qatar.

From 1 February 2023, all visitors entering Qatar are to obtain a mandatory health insurance policy from any of the  health insurance companies  registered with Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health. To facilitate smooth clearance at Qatar’s immigration checkpoints (airport, land and seaports), visitors are advised to purchase the insurance policy prior to departure for Qatar. Please refer to the website of Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health for the latest  health-related travel requirements , and for more information on the  mandatory health insurance .

Safety and Security

Singaporeans are advised to maintain the usual vigilance in public, be aware of local developments and take appropriate steps for personal safety at all times.  Although crime levels are low, female visitors should take extra care when travelling alone at night.

A key area is safety on the local roads. Due to ongoing road constructions, Singaporeans are advised to exercise safety precautions when driving in Qatar. Speeding and minor accidents are common. The driver and passengers should wear a seat belt at all times. You must not use a mobile phone while driving. “Road rage” like rude gestures or even minor expressions can attract significant penalties. Offenders may be fined, imprisoned or deported.

For those who prefer walking, please be extra careful when using road zebra crossings. The local driving culture does not require mandatory stopping or slowing down at zebra crossings for pedestrians. Pedestrians need to be extra alert and wait for cars to slow down before attempting to cross at zebra crossings. 

Qatar is a Muslim country. Singaporeans are reminded that they should respect the local traditions, customs, laws and religions and to adhere to them at all times while in Qatar.

It is illegal to import alcohol and pork products into Qatar. All luggage is scanned at the arrivals hall of Hamad airport.

Expatriates living in Qatar can buy alcohol via a permit system provided by the Qatar Distribution Company. It is also available in licenced restaurants and hotels which may sell alcohol to adult, non-Muslim customers in restricted areas.

It is an offence to drink alcohol or to be drunk in a public place. People breaking this law can be deported, fined or receive prison sentences.

• Alcohol should not be transported within the country, except to take it home from the Qatar Distribution Company on the day of collection.
• It is an offence to offer alcohol to Muslims and minors.
• Muslims caught drinking may be subjected to corporal punishment.
• It is illegal to sell, donate or give away alcohol.
• It is a very serious offence to drink and drive in Qatar. Driving under the influence of alcohol is punishable by a jail sentence, fine or both. Offenders will also be deported.

Penalties for possession, consumption and trafficking in illegal drugs are severe in Qatar, and offenders will have to undergo long-term imprisonment and pay heavy penalties. Depending on the severity of the offence, the mandatory death penalty may also be meted.

Qatar punishes and forbids the wearing of revealing or indecent clothes in public. Singaporeans in Qatar should take note of this requirement. In public places, women should be modest in their dressing and should avoid sleeveless or low-neck tops, tops with short sleeves that are above the elbows, as well as shorts or tight-fitting dresses above the knee.  Men should note that wearing shorts or sleeveless T-shirts in public is generally frowned-upon and considered offensive.

Ramadan is a holy month for Muslims. During this time, Muslims will abstain from food, drinking and smoking from dawn to dusk. Singaporeans should be aware of the strict level of observance and enforcement of this during their visits to Qatar on the month of Ramadan. Most restaurants will be closed during the daytime, including home deliveries, and will only open after dusk. During Ramadan, non-Muslims should avoid eating, drinking, chewing gum or smoking in public during the daytime, including in your car. Pregnant and nursing women and young children are exempt from the provisions, discretion is still advised.

Advisory: Email Scams

There have been reports of individuals receiving scam emails/messages purportedly sent from friends in distress overseas. These emails/messages typically originate from an email address/social media known to the receiver bearing claims of the sender getting into trouble overseas and urgently requesting financial assistance. The sender would also claim to have approached a Singapore Embassy/Consulate and the local Police for help to no avail.

MFA takes the safety of all Singaporeans very seriously.  Singaporeans in distress approaching our Overseas Missions for assistance will be rendered with all necessary consular assistance.  If you receive such emails/messages from purported friends seeking funds transfers, we strongly advise you to call them first to verify the authenticity of the emails/messages before responding to their request.  It is also not advisable to give out any personal information such as NRIC/passport numbers, address, telephone number, etc.  Any form of reply, even one of non-interest, could result in more unsolicited emails.  Members of the public who suspect that they have fallen prey to such scams should report the matter to the Police immediately.  Should Singaporeans abroad require consular assistance, they can contact the nearest Singapore Overseas  Mission  or call the Ministry of Foreign Affairs 24-hr Duty Office at +65 6379 8800/+65 6379 8855.

The one area that I would comment on is that there is a lot of single-use plastic and disposables in the meal service for American Airlines. Fantastic, the 787-9 is a very beautifully designed plane and it was a pleasure to fly in the Qsuite. The suite did feel slightly smaller than the 777 variant, and the suite door also felt smaller, as I felt more exposed as passengers and crew walked past. Food was too notch, and the service was fantastic. I wish they’d enforce boarding zones more effectively, but otherwise they did really well.

From Montreal to Doha , we habe two complaints : 1) They want to charge for Seat Selection, claiming that the Class of ticket bought on Kayak did not cover seat selection. It such a penny pinching rule, I told them, since we paid almost $20,000 our 3 tickets , that rule should never exist. Also I reserved my tickets so many months ahead, I expected they will naturally put the family together or move somebody else to keep our family seating together. I filed a complaint, and NOBODY ANSWERED. 2) In Montreal, Qatar has an arrangement with the National Bank Lounge. It was so overcrowded and the Lounge is so bad in terms of service and food, amenities etc... The WORST lounge . Why Qatar not have another arrangement their Business Class clients in Montreal. The Air France KLM Lounger is better, the Air Canada Lounge is better. Qatar should send somebody to take a look ! Joseph Chung

Online check-in doesn't work. That's why I couldn't give it full Star.

To many ads. 3 or 4 between each movie. All repetitive, all related to Doha which I was just passing thru.

The crew was fantastic and the over flight was perfect as well.

So far pal express is much better than Cebu pacific in terms of customers service and in flight crew. And on time departure and arrival . Especially if you're taking airbus 320 plane . But the small aircraft like bombardier . It usually delayed .

I paid for an aisle seat on my booking but for my return flight back in the US I was ina middle seat. I didnt realize this until i was already on the plane.

Qatar’s PM on three-day official visit to Singapore from Wednesday

SINGAPORE - Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani is making a three-day official visit to Singapore from Wednesday, at the invitation of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

This is the Qatari leader’s first visit to Singapore as prime minister, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said in a statement on Wednesday.

Sheikh Mohammed, who is also Qatar’s Foreign Minister, will receive a ceremonial welcome at the Istana on Thursday and call on President Halimah Yacob as well as meet PM Lee, who will host him to an official lunch.

He will be hosted to dinner by Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean on Thursday.

On Friday, Sheikh Mohammed and SM Teo will co-chair the 8th Qatar-Singapore High-Level Joint Committee (HLJC) meeting. The HLJC, which was established in 2006, is the key platform which charts the strategic direction for Qatar-Singapore relations, MFA said. After the HLJC meeting, Mr Teo will host Sheikh Mohammed to lunch.

On Friday, Sheikh Mohammed will deliver the inaugural International Institute for Strategic Studies Raffles Lecture. He will be speaking on the topic “Small States: Strategies for Success in a Competitive World”.

During his visit, he will have a new orchid hybrid named in his honour, said MFA.

The Qatari leader will be accompanied by Finance Minister Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari; Commerce and Industry Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al Abdullah Al Thani; Education and Higher Education Minister Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi; Social Development and Family Minister Mariam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad and senior officials.

Qatar has COVID-19 restrictions still. The country adopted health measures according to the coronavirus spread risk in the passengers' countries. Beyond that, there are different protocols for unvaccinated and fully vaccinated citizens.
