It was my first Vance Joy gig, not my first time seeing an artist play in the venue though.

The support act was well-chosen and energetic, the main set nice, however it was only 1 1/4 hours - a fact that I heard other people talk about afterwards, too, but who knows if he was just sick or tired or something.

Oh, and (I don't want to dictate how a musician should perform, but) I would have loved a little more engaging with the crowd. But I guess that's a total matter of taste, I just prefer more talking and banter in-between songs.

All in all neither the best concert I've ever been to, nor in any way a bad one.

Got home from the concert and still buzzing from the wonderful evening.

Vance is amazing - very interactive with his audience.

My absolute favourite thing that kept me smiling all night is the way Vance is 'marching' on the spot with his music.

What a guy.

I took my teenage son and his girlfriend this evening and the three of us had a great night.

What an amazing venue, so intimate and a great set up.

As I have written before: "We're going home" is my favourite song, because it reminds me of home in The Netherlands. I am the only one that migrated to Australia. Sometimes the song makes me happy and sometimes it makes me sad, sometimes I feel homesick.

Amazing, fantastic! The support acts were brilliant too and they were a perfect match for this style of music. Vance Joy was so generous with his time! He sang for 1 1/2 hours, every set was brilliant. We were right down the front and it felt like he was singing and talking to us. Vance Joy spoke during each song, gave background to them and he was so normal. It was just amazing He also had a great backing band and he spent time introducing each person. It was the best concert I have ever been to and that includes Ed Sheehan (though that was also amazing).

With borders opening-up around the globe, Joy is ready to embark on new travels. From next September, he’ll hit the road for "The Long Way Home Tour." And new music is coming.

With No. 1s, awards, a song that has raced past one billion streams, and supports for Taylor Swift and Pink , V ance Joy is a well-travelled man.

But it could have been so very different. The Melbourne-raised singer and songwriter (real name James Keogh) had something of a sliding doors moment a decade ago, when a song came to him while he was completing his law degree.

“I was finishing my last class, a summer class. I must have failed a subject along the way and needed to fill a gap,” he recounts. As he hit the books, he wrote lyrics in his notepad. Those lyrics would become “Riptide”.

“It’s funny how that song came along at the last moment of my studies. It came along at that important moment when I was deciding how I was going to spend the next year. That was fortunate. For whatever reason it opened-up at exactly the right time.”

In music, timing is everything. “Riptide” was the zeitgeist. It topped triple j’s Hottest 100 poll, won APRA’s song of the year in 2014, caught the attention of TayTay, and it changed the artist’s life.

To date, Joy’s singles, which include “Mess is Mine,” “Georgia,” “Fire and the Flood,” “Lay It On Me,” “I’m With You,” “Saturday Sun” and “We’re Going Home,” have been streamed more than 3.2 billion times.

The legal community’s loss is the music industry’s gain. With the prospect of a career behind a desk in the rearview, Joy has released two studio albums, both of which hit No. 1 on the albums chart in his homeland. Dream Your Life Away , his debut from 2014, hit No. 17 on the Billboard 200; and 2018’s Nation of Two peaked at No. 10 in the United States.

Music has taken Joy to arenas and stadiums around the globe, and created opportunities to live abroad. There was a stint in Los Angeles several years ago, and, now, Joy calls Barcelona home. “It’s a beautiful city that cares about art,” he explains. Joy fell for the home of Gaudi while visiting prior to Pink’s Beautiful Trauma World Tour , for which he opened on the European leg. He also fell for a girl, and they’ve been together ever since.

His Spanish is ok, but not great, he admits. Catalan is another challenge altogether. “I would like to learn,” he tells Billboard over a Zoom call, “but I also feel like my attempts to learn a new language are doomed.”

With borders re-opening around the globe, Joy is ready to embark on new travels. From September 2022, he’ll hit the road for The Long Way Home Tour , a two-month run spanning 13 outdoor concerts across Australia, including a special date at the Sydney Opera House Forecourt.

His first tour in four years will be his biggest-ever headline trek of Australia. The dates are presented by Frontier Touring, triple j, Village Sounds and UNIFIED, with supports including The Rubens, Thelma Plum, Middle Kids, Budjerah and Mia Wray.

International shows will be announced in due course.

When asked if his next run will support a new, third album, Joy didn’t flinch. “Yes, yes definitely. There’ll be an album out,” he tells Billboard .

Thanks in part to the downtime created by the pandemic, Joy has made a good start on his next musical phase. A new song, “Missing Piece,” dropped this year, scooped five nominations this the upcoming ARIA Awards, and recently led Billboard’s Adult Alternative Airplay chart. Other works are taking shape.

“It’s a bit unorthodox releasing a tour before the album is all locked away, but for me it’s nice to have some deadlines, to help motivate me,” he explains. “We’ve been operating in a bit of a vacuum, where there’s been no deadlines. Things can drag out for years. I’m glad there are some deadlines, to get things done and focus on other things. I might be closer than I realize (to completing the album) but I still want to keep writing songs.”

Vance Joy Announces 13 Date Long Way Home Tour For 2022

Vance Joy will head out on a massive 2022 Australian tour with special guests across the country.

Various shows will include The Rubens, Thelma Plum, Budjerah and Mia Wray as well as other acts from the start of the tour on September 17 through to late November.

“I’ve been talking about doing a tour like this one for years, so it’s incredibly exciting that it’s becoming a reality. I love touring in Australia and can’t wait to really explore the country on this extended tour, playing not just the cities but also the regional areas too.

“I’m also pumped that I get to go on the road with some of my favourite artists: The Rubens, Thelma Plum, Middle Kids, Budjerah and Mia Wray. It’s been way too long since I’ve been on tour in Australia so I cannot wait to re-connect with everyone again and play some new songs as well as the favourites.”

Vance Joy has added 2023 tour dates in conjunction with his new album, In Our Own Sweet Time .

Five new shows have been announced for August and September in Vancouver, Colorado, New York City, and Tennessee with opening acts Dan Mangan & Ruby Waters or Dan Sultan on select dates. Vance is currently on tour and will head over to Europe in April for headlining concerts.

When do Vance Joy 2023 tour tickets go on sale and what is the presale code?

For the new dates, the general public on-sale begins as early as February 17. Presales are currently underway for Artist. American Express cardholder, Live Nation, LN Mobile App, and local venues / radio presales will follow. Tickets for the previously announced dates are now on sale. Keep in mind, each date is different and details are subject to change.
