Individual Vietnam holidays shaped around your passions

From the French-colonial architecture of Hanoi and the karst scenery of Halong Bay to the mercantile history of Hoi An, our Vietnam specialists will use their personal experience of the country to plan your holiday to Vietnam in detail. That might include arranging for you to view fast-paced Ho Chi Minh City from the back of a Vespa, or spend languid days cruising the Mekong Delta or by the beach in Ninh Van Bay.

Travel in Vietnam is often based around a journey between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, taking in the highlights of the central region between the two. Our Vietnam specialists can also suggest the country’s often overlooked, lesser-known sights and experiences, such as discovering brightly dressed hill-tribe communities in the Tonkinese Alps or the remote markets of Ha Giang — places and people we’ve come to know over 20 years of research and return visits.

Useful information for planning your holiday in Vietnam

Vietnamese is the official language of Vietnam, but there is a huge variety of regional dialects that are spoken in casual conversation. You may also hear other languages, including Chinese, Khmer, and Lao as you travel across the country. English is also widely understood and spoken, and older generations still speak French as a result of the French colonial period.

The currency of Vietnam is the Vietnamese dong (₫), and the notes come in denominations of 200, 500, 1000, 2000, 5000, 10,000, 20,000 50,000, and 100,000 dong. However, it can be difficult to change high denomination notes in shops.

You can withdraw local currency at ATMs in all major cities, and credit cards are accepted in most larger shops and hotels, too.

We recommend trying Vietnam’s national dish, pho, which is a hearty noodle soup made with fresh vegetables, as well as trying juicy spring rolls wrapped in wafer-thin rice paper. Traditional Vietnamese food balances five key tastes — sweet, salty, bitter, sour, and spicy — and for an even deeper aroma, each dish comes with nuoc mam, a potent fish sauce, or mam tom, shrimp sauce.

We also recommend sampling ‘royal cuisine’ in Hue , a cuisine that harks back to the elaborate dishes created to impress the former Imperial court. We can arrange for you to visit the home of a local artisan chef there who’ll prepare a Vietnamese feast for you.

To drink, you can indulge in local coffee sweetened with a glug of condensed milk, a guaranteed pick-me-up after a morning of exploring. There are also a handful of local beers to try.

Tipping in Vietnam has become part of the culture, so we advise leaving a 10% tip at restaurants for good service in addition to any service charges. You should also tip guides, porters, drivers, and other service workers in Vietnam, preferably in local currency. The amount varies depending on how many people you travel with and the level of service provided, but we can go into more detail before you travel.

For the latest travel advice for Vietnam, including entry requirements, health information, and the safety and security situation, please refer to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office website .

A trip to Vietnam blends dramatic forest-draped mountain scenery with historical towns and cities whose architecture showcases the country’s tangle of cultures. There are several UNESCO World Heritage Sites here, including the former imperial citadel of Hue and Champa Kingdom ruins at My Son , as well as a handful of jungle-blanketed national parks ideal for hiking and caving.

While Vietnam’s most notable sights might already be familiar to you, our specialists can help you get to know them more intimately. You could learn how to tend to one of Vietnam’s quintessential rice paddies with a local farmer , take a cooking class  in an ornate pagoda on the outskirts of Hue’s royal monuments, or take a peek into a previously covert location  in Ho Chi Minh City used to store the Viet Cong’s weapons during the Vietnam War.

There are a wide range of places to retreat to after a day of exploring in Vietnam, including beach resorts, heritage hotels, traditional junks, and city boutiques. For example, you could spend a night in a wooden merchant’s house in Hoi An , experience remote rural living at a homestay along the Mekong Delta , or rest your head at one of Vietnam’s most exclusive coastal resorts in Quy Nhon . There are also numerous boutique hotels right in the heart of Vietnam’s cities, so you can get up and go without needing to travel far.

Our specialists hand-pick every hotel in Vietnam , so they can help you explore and rest in a setting that suits you.

For a classic snapshot of Vietnam’s striking scenery and interlocking cultures, travel from Hanoi in the north down the coast to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) in the south. Along the way, you can cruise around the limestone karst pillars jutting out of Halong Bay , gaze at the vibrant mosaiced roofs of Hue’s old town, wander in and out of the eclectic buildings of Hoi An, and zip around Hoi Chi Minh City  on a Vespa.

If you want to go further from the traditional path, our specialists can craft a more intrepid route for you. You could trek the village-dotted Tonkinese Alps , share a home-cooked meal with a Tay family  in their thatched-roof stilted house, or camp on the underground sands of a cave in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park .

It takes around 12–17 hours to fly from the UK to Hanoi in Vietnam. We recommend flying with Vietnam Airlines, Emirates, Qatar Airways, and a few other airlines, which we can advise on.

The time zone in Vietnam is GMT+7, and there’s no daylight saving time in the country, so the clocks stay the same all year round.

In Vietnam, we recommend taking private cars for short hops between cities and going by air if you want to get across the country because it’s expansive, stretching from China in the north to the Gulf of Thailand in the south. You can also take a traditional Vietnamese junk to cruise around uninhabited karst islands in the north, a luxury train through Central Vietnam’s forested countryside to the coast, or a private wooden sampan along the Mekong and into Cambodia to see the Khmer temples of Angkor .

British passport holders are permitted to travel in Vietnam visa-free for up to 45 days. If you’re staying for longer than 45 days, you’ll need to apply for an e-visa. Irish passport holders will need to apply for a 90-day, multi-entry e-visa in advance of travel.

Your doctor can provide you with immunisation and antimalarial advice for Vietnam. You can also check the recommended vaccinations by visiting the Travel Health Pro website .

Just note that there’s a risk of Zika virus transmission in Vietnam, so if you’re pregnant or trying to conceive, please consult with your doctor for advice.

Your passport must be valid for at least six months after the date of your departure from Vietnam and have at least two blank pages. You should also get your passport stamped on arrival in Vietnam and when you leave to avoid any extra fees.

We recommend wearing light, loose clothing in Vietnam to keep cool and respect the culture because, in general, Vietnamese people dress very conservatively, especially in areas away from the main towns and cities.

When visiting Vietnam’s temples, you should dress conservatively, covering your knees and shoulders out of respect. In some temples, you will also need to remove your shoes before entering, but never point the soles of your feet toward Buddha images or other people. What’s more, you should never sit with your back to an altar, point at anything or anyone, or touch statues. It’s also respectful to refrain from talking while inside, but occasional whispering is fine.

There are many customs in Vietnam that will be different from your home country, but, thankfully, your expert guides will be there to help you navigate and understand them. For example, they might teach you how to greet local people in the traditional way, take part in festivities respectfully, or even how to avoid things that are considered back luck, like leaving your chopsticks sticking straight up in a bowl of rice.

Far East Holidays - Amazing Choice of Vietnam Deals -sunset over Ha Long Bay

Vietnam Holidays

Verdant patchworks of rice paddies and pointed conical hats - these are some of the international images of Vietnam. But there are other scenes to be found too, ones of spectacular natural beauty, fascinating ethnic culture, imperial history and timeless traditional villages, idyllic beaches and dynamic cities.

Vietnam stretches along the east coast of the Indochinese Peninsula and is likened by its people to a long bamboo pole hung with two baskets of rice, represented by the two fertile regions at either end of the country. Between the lush Red River Delta and the highlands in the north, known for their magnificent scenery and colourful hill tribes, and the agricultural plains and floating markets of the Mekong Delta in the south, lie miles of white sandy beaches, towering mountains, rivers and dense forests, and the thousands of bizarre rock and cave formations on the islands of Halong Bay.

Ancient temples and colourful pagodas are scattered throughout the urban centres, while among them stand hotels of modern luxury, and the development of tourism infrastructure is a booming business. Vietnam is a perfect balance between ancient times and the here and now, a country that reveres its past heroes, and people who welcome visitors to their country with open arms and friendly smiles.

Ho Chi Minh City, better known by its former name of Saigon, is an industrious and dense metropolis, the largest city in Vietnam and the business capital of the country.

Image

Vietnam's small and vibrant capital lies at the heart of the northern Red River Delta and is a city of lakes, leafy boulevards and open parks with a French colonial feel.

Image

Hoi An is becoming an increasingly popular tourist destination, not only for its attractive old-world atmosphere and genuine friendliness, but also for its restaurants, serving delicious Hoi An specialities, and tailor-made clothes.

Image

The capital of Khanh Hoa province, and located on Vietnam's southeastern coastline, Nha Trang is a popular tourist destination and a great stop on any backpacking trail.

The former capital of the emperors of the Nguyen Dynasty, the royal city of Hué is situated on the country's central coast, midway between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Detailed Overview

The quaint town of Hoi An, once a major trading port, boasts the perfectly preserved architectural influences of the Asian merchants from the north, while the broad leafy boulevards of the capital Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are reminiscent of France. Menus offer Chinese variations of spring rolls, steamed dumplings and noodles.

Ancient temples and colourful pagodas are scattered throughout the urban centres, while among them stand hotels of modern luxury, and the development of tourism infrastructure is a booming business. Vietnam is a perfect balance between ancient times and the here and now, a country that reveres its past heroes, a nation that has collectively put the woes of war behind it, and people who welcome visitors to their country with open arms and friendly smiles.

A trip to Vietnam is often centred around a journey between the capital Hanoi in the north, and Saigon (as Ho Chi Minh is still called locally) in the south, taking in the many highlights between the two.

Vietnam's largest city and commercial capital, Saigon is a fascinating blend of old and new, where gleaming skyscrapers sit alongside ancient temples, and street vendors tout for business outside gleaming shopping malls. While in the south of Vietnam, visitors should take a cruise through the lush Mekong Delta to see the famous floating markets, tour the infamous Cu Chi Tunnels or relax on the coast near the tropical beach resort of Mui Ne.

Further up the coast travellers will find the delightful city of Hoi An, with its well-preserved old town, and a couple of hours further on can explore the once magnificent Imperial City of Hué, which was the national capital and home to the Nguyen Dynasty from 1802-1945, and is now a culinary capital. Hanoi is the modern-day capital, and has been an important city for a thousand years; the influences from the French and Chineses rulers is ever present in the architecture. Travellers can wander through the elaborate narrow streets of the Old Quarter, avoiding the many scooters, to find fashionable bars, restaurants and art galleries, alongside food vendors, street markets and Buddhist temples. The French Quarter, by contrast, has wide boulevards lined with imposing houses. A winding train ride up the mountains in Sapa lets visitors overlook it all. On the coast, visitors can find remote beaches, or take a boat cruise through the hundreds of towering islands in Halong Bay. The trip to nearby Ninh Binh offers tourists the chance to experience some of Vietnam's most beautiful rural scenery, with narrow rivers snaking past limestone cliffs and farmers tending their fields with water buffaloes.

Tailor-Made Vietnam Holidays

Beautiful beaches, buzzing cities, reboot amongst the rice terraces… and we’ve yet to mention the pho

Feefo logo

Vietnam Holidays

Balancing modern buzz with laid back charm, Vietnam has a delightful knack of always matching your pace. Holidays there are superbly versatile, and can easily take you from cycling amongst rice paddies to padding across glorious tropical sand, or darting between urban eateries to gliding along a river in a private sampan .

Or why not all of it?! Vietnam has been an incredible place to travel since our early days — it was one of our founding destinations, and we now pride ourselves on knowing it better than anyone else. It’s been gratifying to see the country retain so much of its original character whilst growing into an accomplished all-rounder...

Gorgeous shorelines

Vietnam’s coasts and islands strike a cosy balance between idyllic and practical, with plenty of undeveloped stretches amidst good infrastructure and excellent hotels. It’s ideal if you struggle to choose between a beachfront lined with excellent seafood restaurants, versus a shoreline empty of all but your footprints in the sand! The climate is such that you’ll usually find sunshine somewhere in the country, and resorts range from the occasional quirky boutique to six-star luxury and exceptional spas.

Vietnam beach

Family friendly

If you’re keen to take your kids on holiday to Asia, Vietnam is one of the best choices, thanks to its well-connected infrastructure and family-friendly culture. Children enjoy slurping big bowls of noodle soup and getting hands-on at rural homestays, and adults can relax amongst people who truly celebrate family ties. It’s easy to find a soft beach with safe waters and a well-equipped resort, and getting around is fun thanks to the variety of entertaining transport options.

Family playing in the water

Urban exhilaration

The gleaming modern towers of Ho Chi Minh City rise amongst ornate colonial buildings, yet down every alley you’ll find the homely bustle of streetfood stalls and daily life. Whether you sip a cocktail in a sky bar, or zip between markets on the back of a Vespa , you’ll get a tantalising taste of contemporary life in southern Vietnam. In the north, we love to wander the pavements of Hanoi , sniffing out fragrant pho and arty coffee shops. This chaotic capital is a great place to immerse yourself in a cookery class, find calm with early morning tai chi beside Hoan Kiem Lake, and shop in chic little ‘old quarter’ boutiques.

girls laughing on cafe window in ho chi minh city

Junk boats & jungle-topped crags

The famously ‘iconic’ Halong Bay — with its Bond-backdrop limestone islands and traditional junk boats — is awash with sightseers. We recommend delving further to Lan Ha & Bai Tui Long bays , ideally for a two night cruise, where you’ll discover equivalent scenery stunning just without the crowds. For an inland alternative, the evocative landscape of Ninh Binh is known as ‘Halong on land’, thanks to its towering limestone karsts and broad meandering rivers.

Ninh Binh

Laid-back rural lifestyle

We love to retreat to a riverside lodge in the Mekong Delta ’s tranquil backwaters, relaxing into a gentle pace by pedalling between the paddy fields, or taking a sampan along the river! Mai Chau is another stunning place to enjoy rural life. Home to many of Vietnam’s ethnic minorities, its picturesque landscape is ideal for a few days of trekking and cycling — all within easy reach of Hanoi. Further afield, the mountainside rice terraces of Mù Cang Chải and Hà Giang stretch for miles, and you can explore these rural ancient landscapes where hill-tribe traditions have endured for centuries.

Mai Chau

Fabulous food

Aromatic salads, juicy dumplings, freshly wrapped summer rolls, spicy fried fish, steaming bowls of phở gà… food is one of Vietnam’s major highlights, and we can’t get enough of it when we travel there. There’s a lot to be said for just following your nose, but for a quintessential taste of Vietnam try an evening Vespa tour of the streetfood markets, or visit one of the excellent ‘kindness’ restaurants, which train disadvantaged youngsters to be expert chefs.

This information is for people travelling on a full ‘British citizen’ passport from the UK. It is based on the UK government’s understanding of the current rules for the most common types of travel.

The authorities in Vietnam set and enforce entry rules. If you’re not sure how these requirements apply to you, contact the Vietnamese Embassy in the UK .

COVID-19 rules

There are no COVID-19 testing or vaccination requirements for travellers entering Vietnam.

Passport validity requirements

To enter Vietnam, your passport must have:

  • an ‘expiry date’ at least 6 months after the date you arrive
  • at least 2 blank pages
  • no damage – British nationals have been denied entry and exit due to passport damage

Check with your travel provider that your passport and other travel documents meet requirements. Renew your passport if you need to.

You will be denied entry if you do not have a valid travel document or try to use a passport that has been reported lost or stolen.

Make sure you get your passport stamped.

Check the visa expiry date written in your passport is correct before leaving border control. If it is wrong, you could be accused of overstaying.

Visa requirements

You can visit Vietnam without a visa for up to 45 days for tourism or business.

If you want to stay longer than 45 days, you can:

  • book with a travel agent in Vietnam and ask them to apply for a visa pre-approval letter – your agent will tell you when to collect your visa from the embassy
  • apply for other visa types from the Vietnamese Embassy in the UK
  • apply for an e-visa that allows a 90-day stay and multiple entries

E-visas restrict you to the entry and exit points you select when you apply. If you get an e-visa while in Vietnam, you must exit the country and re-enter to start your e-visa.

The British Embassy will not assist with visa extensions.

Work or study

If you want to work or study, check which type of visa or work permit you need with the Vietnam Immigration Department .

Read about visas and work permits if you live in Vietnam .

If you overstay your visa or work illegally, the authorities can prevent you from leaving until you pay a fine. You could be deported and prevented from visiting Vietnam in the future.

Travelling through Vietnam

If you transfer from an international flight to a domestic flight in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, you must go through immigration and enter Vietnam. You must do this even if your final destination is outside Vietnam.

Check with your airline before departing.

Vaccine requirements

For details about medical entry requirements and recommended vaccinations, see TravelHealthPro’s Vietnam guide

Customs rules

There are strict rules about goods you can take into or out of Vietnam . You must declare anything that may be prohibited or subject to tax or duty.

If you’re taking prescription medication into Vietnam, carry it in your hand luggage with a copy of the prescription. If it has a total import value greater than 100 US dollars, you must declare it at customs. For information about restrictions on medication, see Health .

Taking money into or out of Vietnam

If you’re taking cash into or out of Vietnam, you must declare amounts over:

  • 15 million Vietnamese dong
  • 5,000 US dollars (or the same value in other currencies)

If you’re leaving the country with more than these amounts, declare the money at customs and show either:

  • confirmation you’re carrying cash abroad, issued by an authorised credit institution
  • written approval to carry cash, issued by the State Bank of Vietnam

There is a high threat of terrorist attack globally affecting UK interests and British nationals, including from groups and individuals who view the UK and British nationals as targets. Stay aware of your surroundings at all times.

UK Counter Terrorism Policing has information and advice on staying safe abroad and what to do in the event of a terrorist attack. Find out how to reduce your risk from terrorism while abroad .

Terrorism in Vietnam

Although there is no recent history of terrorism in Vietnam, attacks cannot be ruled out.

Attacks could be indiscriminate including in places visited by foreign nationals. Stay aware of your surroundings, keep up to date with local media reports and follow the advice of local authorities.

Political situation

Vietnam has a single-party political system, which does not welcome people disagreeing with the government. Some protests in recent years have turned violent or been violently suppressed by the authorities. Avoid all protests.

Protecting yourself and your belongings

Pickpockets and bag-snatchers operate in crowded areas and in places visited by tourists. Take care of your belongings and consider splitting important items between bags.

Do not give your passport to others as a guarantee – for example, to motorcycle rental shops or landlords. They can hold your passport against claimed damage.

There is a risk of petty theft on buses and trains, particularly while asleep on overnight trains.

Drink spiking and sexual assault

British nationals have reported rape and sexual assaults in tourist areas and places where foreigners live. Women have also reported indecent assaults and harassment. These include inappropriate touching and groping, particularly while walking alone.

In Vietnam there is a higher burden of proof for victims than in the UK. Victims must show they did not consent, particularly if they drank alcohol or knew the alleged attacker.

There is a risk of drink spiking – do not leave your drinks unattended or accept drinks from strangers.

Be wary of job offers that appear too good to be true. People have arrived in the Mekong region and have been illegally transported to neighbouring countries on the promise of high-paying jobs, which turn out to be scams.

There have been incidents of:

  • passports being confiscated by scammers
  • victims being held in poor living conditions
  • coercion into undertaking wider online scamming activity

Transfers from airports and stations

Be cautious about offers of free bus transfers to hotels, unless organised in advance. These may be scams.

Laws and cultural differences

Personal id.

You must always carry photographic ID. The authorities will accept a printed copy of the photo page of your passport and visa.

Illegal drugs penalties

Penalties for possessing, distributing or manufacturing drugs are severe. You can get the death sentence if you’re found with even small amounts.

Illegal drugs are often tampered with or spiked and can be much stronger than in Europe. British nationals in Vietnam have suffered severe psychiatric problems because of drug use.

LGBT+ travellers

Vietnam is a generally tolerant and progressive place for LGBT+ travellers. There are no criminal penalties for same-sex sexual activity or changing gender. Same-sex marriage is not recognised in law.

Read more  advice for LGBT+ travellers .

Respect local customs and dress in appropriate clothing when entering religious or cultural sites. This usually means covering your shoulders and knees. You’ll often see signs outside religious or cultural sites that tell you the dress code.

Money change counters

Only change money at official money exchange counters with a clear sign showing this status. Changing money elsewhere is illegal and you risk losing your money.

Some rice wines sold without recognised brand names can have very high and sometimes fatal levels of methanol.

Wildlife, animal products and souvenirs

It’s illegal to buy, sell, kill or collect protected wild animal or plants. If you’re caught buying or trafficking these items, you could get a fine or long prison sentence.

Restricted areas

There are restrictions on travel near military bases in Vietnam. Do not take photos near bases.

If you want to visit a village, commune or ward close to the border, you may need permission from the provincial police department. Contact the local authority for more information.

Legal system

People convicted of sex and drug offences can receive very long prison sentences or the death sentence. The Vietnamese legal system is not well developed, and the standard of prisons is very poor.

If you are under criminal investigation, you can be detained for long periods without evidence. There can be long delays before you can contact lawyers, British Embassy officials or family. Legal representation is far below UK standards.

Foreign nationals involved in traffic accidents have been stopped from leaving Vietnam until the police have completed their investigations. This process can take a long time, and foreign nationals have been asked to agree out of court financial settlements. FCDO advises you to get professional legal advice and representation if you are in this situation. See Getting help .

Internet access

There are sometimes restrictions on internet use, which can temporarily affect access to social media websites. Most social media sites are normally available.

Outdoor activities and adventure tourism

British nationals have died or been injured in Vietnam while engaged in adventure tourism in rural and mountainous areas.

Risks include:

  • dangerous terrain
  • remote areas that are difficult for rescue services to reach
  • flooding, swollen rivers and landslides, especially during the rainy season
  • lower safety standards than in the UK

To reduce your personal risk:

  • follow safety guidelines
  • stay on main routes
  • take a reputable guide – in some places it is illegal to go without a guide
  • use approved adventure tourism companies – check local authority websites
  • check weather forecasts
  • make sure your travel insurance covers your planned activity

Illegal tour guides have been known to offer tours and activities prohibited under local regulations.

Firearms activities

If you take part in leisure activities involving firearms, make sure a reputable guide supervises you. There is a risk of hearing loss.

Transport risks

Road travel.

If you are planning to drive in Vietnam, see  information on driving abroad  and  driving rules in Vietnam .

You’ll need to have both the  1968 version of the international driving permit  and your UK driving licence with you in the car. It is illegal to drive without third-party insurance.

Do not use your passport as a deposit for hiring vehicles or as a guarantee you will pay a fine for a traffic offence.

Drink-driving is a serious offence in Vietnam. If you are tested and found to have any alcohol in your system, you may get a fine and possible imprisonment.

Compliance with road laws is poor – keep your speed down and stay alert.

If you’re involved in an accident, you could face criminal charges and may need to pay compensation to injured people, even if the injuries are minor. Offer the police your full co-operation and inform the  British Embassy in Hanoi  or  Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City .

Motorbike safety

Travelling by motorbike in Vietnam is much riskier than in the UK. Motorbike accidents are common and have killed and injured British nationals.

Do not hire a motorbike if you’re not an experienced rider. Always:

  • check your motorbike thoroughly
  • rent from a reputable organisation
  • use a good helmet – it is illegal for drivers and passengers to ride without a helmet

Make sure your travel insurance covers your planned activity.

Metered taxis from larger firms are generally reliable. Where possible get hotels or restaurants to book you a reputable taxi. Always make sure the driver identifies themself before setting off. If you book taxis using the Grab app, which is similar to Uber – you can make sure the details of the vehicle and driver match those given by the company.

Buses and coaches

Bus and coach crashes are not uncommon and are more likely at night. Vehicles are often poorly maintained. Night bus drivers may become tired but continue driving, resulting in sometimes fatal crashes.

Check with your tour guide about the safety record and registration of boats, and the certification of staff. Make sure you get a full safety briefing and have a life jacket when joining any boat.

Consider safety standards carefully before taking an overnight boat trip on Halong Bay. Overcrowding and poor safety standards have led to accidents in past years. Some boats have sunk quickly and without warning.

Piracy in coastal areas of Vietnam is very rare. See  piracy and armed robbery at sea for precautions you could take.

Landmines and unexploded weapons

Landmines and other unexploded weapons are a hazard in former battlefields. Areas of particular risk include central Vietnam and along the Laos border, formerly crossed by the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Mined areas are often unmarked.

Extreme weather and natural disasters

Find out what you can do to prepare for and respond to extreme weather and natural hazards .

Tropical cyclones

Tropical cyclones affect the eastern coastal regions of Vietnam, with a risk of:

  • strong winds
  • heavy rainfall and flooding
  • disruption to transport

The season normally runs from May to November, but tropical cyclones can happen at other times. Monitor approaching storms on the  National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting  and  Japan Meteorological Agency  websites. Follow the advice of the local authorities, including any evacuation orders.

Vietnam has a tropical monsoon climate. There can be large amounts of rain in short periods of time. Localised flooding, flash floods and landslides are common. Take care if you’re trekking in rural and mountainous areas.

Before you travel check that:

  • your destination can provide the healthcare you may need
  • you have  appropriate travel insurance  for local treatment or unexpected medical evacuation

This is particularly important if you have a health condition or are pregnant.

Emergency medical number

Dial 115 and ask for an ambulance.

Contact your insurance company quickly if you’re referred to a medical facility for treatment.

Vaccine recommendations and health risks

At least 8 weeks before your trip check:

  • the latest vaccine recommendations for Vietnam in  TravelHealthPro’s Vietnam guide
  • where to get vaccines and whether you have to pay on the  NHS travel vaccinations page

See what health risks you’ll face in Vietnam , including:

  • mosquito-borne diseases like Zika virus, dengue, malaria and Japanese encephalitis
  • air pollution – see  information on air quality on TravelHealthPro

Altitude sickness is a risk in parts of Vietnam. Read more about altitude sickness on TravelHealthPro .

Some medicines can be hard to find in Vietnam and many are fake.

The legal status and regulation of some medicines prescribed or bought in the UK can be different in other countries.

Read  best practice when travelling with medicines on TravelHealthPro .

Vietnam has restrictions on medicines it classifies as ‘addictive’ or ‘psychotropic’. These include medicine used to treat of addiction, anxiety, depression, insomnia and other conditions.

It is illegal to have more than the amount prescribed by a doctor for 7 days (addictive medicine) or 10 days (psychotropic medicine). You should carry the prescription with your medication and a letter from your doctor stating how much of the medication you need during your trip.

The letter can be in English and should:

  • include your name and age
  • list the medicine name, volume and dosage
  • include the doctor’s signature and address

If you’re unsure if your medication falls within these categories or you need to bring more medication than is usually allowed, contact the  Vietnamese Embassy  in the UK before travelling.

Healthcare in Vietnam

FCDO  has a list of  medical facilities in Vietnam where some staff will speak English.

There is also  guidance on healthcare if you’re living in Vietnam .

Travel and mental health

Vietnam Tourism London Office

LONDON, United Kingdom (Nov. 6, 2019) — UK travellers can expect to hear more about Vietnam’s best travel offerings in coming months.

Vietnam yesterday announced the opening of a new tourism office in London, at a press conference held at World Travel Market 2019. Vietnam Tourism Advisory Board (TAB) selected London as the location for its first overseas representative office, in a move to bring the country’s tourism assets closer to UK travellers, assist with trip inspiration, and encourage travellers to visit.

The country welcomes more than 290,000 travellers from the UK yearly. Vietnam aims to attract 500,000 British visitors to the country by 2023.

“There has never been a better time to visit Vietnam,” said Mr. Dinh Ngoc Duc, Director of Marketing at Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT). “We’re confident travellers from the UK will be surprised by the wealth of outstanding options here, and will place Vietnam among their favourite destinations in the years to come.”

“Opening our first international office in the UK is a significant milestone for Vietnam,” Mr. Tran Trong Kien, Chairman of TAB said. “The UK will be one of our biggest and most important markets. Travellers love Vietnam’s local food, vibrant cities, great beaches and beautiful landscapes, as well as our unique culture. This office will show a welcoming Vietnam and help more British travellers realise these amazing experiences.”

The news comes on the heels of the debut of a new campaign, ‘VietnamNOW’, which aims to refresh Vietnam’s image as a travel destination abroad. Only last month Vietnam picked up the title of ‘Asia’s Leading Destination 2019’ at the World Travel Awards.

The new tourism office is a project of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) and TAB, a private consortium of industry stakeholders supporting the development of tourism in Vietnam. PC Agency, a specialist travel consultancy firm, have been appointed to manage media and trade relations for the UK and Ireland markets.

Enquires may be sent to [email protected].

The Tourism Advisory Board (TAB) is represented by Vietnam’s leading tourism stakeholders and has entered into a public-private partnership with the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT). TAB comprises representatives from a broad base of industry leaders in Vietnam’s travel and tourism sector. The mission of the TAB is to increase Vietnam’s competitive advantage as a sustainable tourism and travel destination by leveraging the country’s public and private resources, thus creating a cohesive and comprehensive industry strategy. TAB is grateful to its sponsors: Asia DMC, Muong Thanh Group, Saigontourist Holding Company, Sun Group, Thien Minh Group, BIM Land, Vietnam Airlines and VinGroup -- each of whom contributes to a privately managed fund dedicated to promoting tourism in Vietnam.

Vietnam & Cambodia Adventure

23 days | travel across the heart of south east asia through vietnam, cambodia and thailand.

Intrepid Travel Vietnam Hoi-An street night

Vibrant Vietnam, charismatic Cambodia, beautiful Bangkok; this journey covers the very best of South East Asia. From the graceful elegance of Hanoi, across the serene beauty of Ha Long Bay, to the quaint charms of Hoi An and the frenetic energy of Ho Chi Minh City, experience ancient customs and delicious cuisine while travelling through the heart of Vietnam. Embark on an exciting tour down the Mekong River to Phnom Penh, and spend several days exploring the enigmatic temples of Angkor Wat. The bright lights of Bangkok are the ideal way to cap off this South East Asian adventure.

Trip overview

  • Cruise a sea of limestone karsts, blue-green waters, mysterious caves and ancient jungle on an unforgettable boat trip in Lin Ha Bay, a less-touristy but equally stunning area to Ha Long Bay.
  • Get a different view of Vietnam from the back of a motorbike. Take a two-wheeled tour around Hue and enjoy a special lunch spot at a convent or Buddhist monastery for a delicious vegetarian feast.
  • Visit a local master of martial arts with a family visit in Quy Nhon. Learn how they’ve been practising martial arts for three generations, the benefits on well-being and health and then learn some moves yourself!
  • Watch the sun rising over Angkor Wat as it did over 800 years ago with your leader. Wander through the amazing ancient temples on a guided tour and with a three-day Angkor pass to cover your whole time in Siem Reap, you can explore this incredible temple complex as much and as often as you like.
  • You'll be spending two nights with local families on this trip. While the accommodation is shared and basic, this is a great opportunity to connect with the local people (and enjoy delicious home-cooked meals!). Read more about the experiences here:  https://www.intrepidtravel.com/adventures/community-based-tourism-vietnam/
  • You'll cover a lot of distance on this trip, including on overnight trains. Accommodation and amenities are shared and basic, but the experience of rubbing shoulders with the locals makes it all worthwhile. For more about what this experience is like, see our blog post here:  https://www.intrepidtravel.com/adventures/what-to-expect-on-an-overnight .
  • This trip involves a 10 km trek in the hills of Da Bac, as well as included city walking tours. While being on your feet can be a bit tiring, this is the best way to truly get under the skin of a place.
  • There are some long travel days by both private and public transport (up to 10 hours on the road), including the days that you cross from Vietnam to Cambodia and Cambodia to Thailand. Your leader and local guides will assist with the border crossings, but plenty of patience is advised.
  • Some travellers enjoy Siem Reap so much that they decide they want to stay extra days rather than continuing with the group to Bangkok. You are welcome to sign off the trip to enjoy more of Cambodia, however we aren’t able to reimburse any unused services or provide alternate onward travel arrangements.

Xin chao! Welcome to Vietnam. Your adventure begins with a welcome meeting at 6 pm tonight, where you'll meet your tour leader and fellow travellers. If you arrive early, why not step out onto the streets to explore the chaotic capital of Vietnam. Hanoi is an alluring city of contrasts, best discovered on foot. Tonight, maybe get to know your new travel buddies over a glass of fresh bia hoi. This is a foamy, light beer made fresh every day and served in basic, open-walled ‘brew halls’ – take up a brightly coloured plastic chair and sip your tasty brew.

  • Hotel (1 night)

There are no meals included on this day.

It’s very important that you attend the welcome meeting as we will be collecting insurance and emergency contact details at this time. If you are going to be late please let your travel agent or hotel reception know. Ask reception or look for a note in the lobby for more information on where the meeting will take place.

Leave Hanoi after breakfast this morning and make the drive to Sung village. Around 70 families live at Sung Village and the majority are Dzao ‘Tien’ people. Farming and forest plantation are their main source of income. Enjoy lunch at your homestay, then take an introductory walk around the village. After getting to know the village better, take a short trek to the alluring Sung Cave and visit a 100-year-old tea plantation. The trek has some steep and slippery sections, so ensure you have suitable footwear. After a handicraft workshop, return to your homestay accommodation for a nice hot shower and a delicious dinner.

  • Homestay (1 night)
  • Da Bac - Homestay Dinner
  • Da Bac - Homestay Lunch
  • Da Bac - Sung Cave & Village Tour

Your travel time today will be approximately 4 hours.

Tonight's homestay is shared accommodation, usually with the whole group in a single room. There are separate beds with clean linen, blankets and mosquito nets provided. Depending on weather, availability and number of visitors to this region, you may stay overnight at an alternative village. Trek length and activities may vary, depending on which village you’re staying in. Should this region be completely inaccessible due to weather conditions, you’ll visit Mai Chau instead.

This morning, you’ll have the opportunity to take in more of the Vietnamese highlands on a 10 km trek from Sung Village to Da Bia. The first 8 km of the trek is mostly flat ground along well-worn buffalo tracks. The final 2 km gradually inclines and there are some steps. Keep an eye peeled for the monumental stone at the peak of Da Bia Mountain during the hike that takes you through the local villages, meeting people from the ethnic Muong tribe along the way. Stop for lunch at Da Bia before enjoying a scenic 1.5-hour boat cruise on Hoa Binh hydropower reservoir. Arrive at Thung Nai, then board a bus transfer to Hanoi. When you arrive, enjoy a water puppet show in the evening.

  • Hanoi (1 night)
  • Da Bac - Sung village to Da Bia hike
  • Da Bac - Da Bia Lunch
  • Da Bac - Hoa Binh Reservoir Cruise
  • Hanoi - Water puppet show

Your travel time today will be approximately 2 hours. Comfortable supportive footwear (running shoes) will be suitable for the hike today. It can be quite slippery if there has been recent rain. The homestay hosts can provide bamboo trekking poles on request. Please ensure you have a 1.5-litre water bottle with you for the trek. If you wish to skip the trek, a local taxi can be arranged locally for approximately USD 70.

This morning, visit the Blue Dragon Children's Foundation – a community project dedicated to helping underprivileged children and victims of trafficking. Then, hop on the bus heading to Cat Ba Island, stopping for a quick break, then jump on the ferry. Board a boat and spend the rest of the day cruising the breathtaking Lan Ha Bay. Located in the greater Ha Long Bay area, Lan Ha Bay is one of Vietnam’s most scenic places, where limestone islands and caves rise from the emerald waters. Enjoy lunch on board, then get up close and personal with giant karsts in a kayak. Stay overnight on Cat Ba Island and enjoy a dip at one of the beaches (with a cold beer of course).

  • Hanoi - Blue Dragon visit
  • Cat Ba Island - Lan Ha Bay Lunch
  • Cat Ba Island - Kayaking
  • Cat Ba Island - Boat trip on Lan Ha Bay

Head back to Hanoi this morning and enjoy a city tour in the afternoon where you’ll see the city’s diverse past reflected in a mix of Southeast Asian, Chinese and French-influenced architecture. Stop by the aptly named One Pillar Pagoda – the country’s most famous stilt house (former residence of Ho Chi Minh) and the Temple of Literature. Shared hotel rooms will be available if you want to freshen up or organise your luggage for the overnight train tonight. Otherwise, use this time to do some shopping on Hang Gai Street or seek out some delicious street food. Meet back at the hotel lobby at 9 pm where you’ll transfer with the group to the train station. Although conditions are basic, overnight trains are a rewarding experience in Vietnam.

  • Overnight train (1 night)
  • Hanoi - Temple of Literature
  • Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh Complex

Your travel time on the overnight train will be approximately 13 hours. Sleeper trains typically have four or six berth compartments with bench seats that convert into sleeping bunks. A sheet, pillow and blanket are provided, although some travellers prefer to bring their own sleeping sheet. Depending on the group’s configuration, you may have to share with people of different genders or passengers who aren’t part of the group. Most trains have a dining carriage serving simple food, but maybe stock up on snacks and drinks before departure. Please note that we won't visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum as the visit is scheduled for afternoon.

Arrive in Hue this morning – the hub of Vietnam’s historic past. This former imperial capital is an eclectic mix of busy streets and peaceful beauty. The rest of the morning is free for you to relax. Maybe pick up a classic Hue breakfast of bun bo – a popular Vietnamese soup with vermicelli noodles and beef. After lunch, visit the Imperial Citadel – a sprawling complex of temples, pavilions, moats, gates and walls. The Ngo Mon Gate, Thai Hoa Palace and the Ancestral Altars are still very impressive, and the complex must have been awe-inspiring during its heyday in the 19th century. In your free time, you might like to visit Dong Ba Market, which offers locally made goods, fresh produce and tantalising street food. This is a good place to try the specialties enjoyed by Emperor Nguyen, such as the banh khoai royal rice cake.

  • Hue - Imperial City Full Day Tour

Today’s adventure will be taken on the back of a motorbike. You’ll have your own driver who will take you first on a drive around the Imperial Citadel, including the Forbidden Purple City. The latter was almost completely destroyed during the Tet Offensive in the Vietnam War, but its humble, foliage-covered ruins remain a testament to its proud history. Here, you'll gain some insight into the horrific damage endured during the war. Next, ride to a special lunch spot at a convent or Buddhist monastery for a delicious vegetarian feast. After lunch, drive to the royal tomb of Emperor Tu Duc, set amid a lake, frangipani bushes and pine trees. This evening, maybe ask your leader for the best place to try Imperial Street specialties.

  • Hue - Highlights & back streets by motorbike
  • Hue - Royal tomb of Emperor Tu Duc

This motorbike activity has been assessed for safety and is closely monitored. To participate, please ensure your travel insurance covers riding a pillion and a motorbike. The motorbikes used are all less than 125cc. If you prefer to refrain from participating in the motorbike ride, please let your leader know, and they will arrange car transportation between destinations (included).

Travelling by bus, head south through coastal rice paddies before stopping at Lang Co Beach. Traverse the dramatic Hai Van Pass along the way – a sometimes bumpy but incredibly scenic stretch of highway with views back to Lang Co Beach and beyond. The spectacular Marble Mountains will be your backdrop as you arrive in Hoi An. Declared a World Heritage site, Hoi An is being beautifully restored and preserved. Known as Faifo to early Western traders, it was one of Southeast Asia's major international ports from the 17th to the 19th centuries. Today, parts of Hoi An look exactly as they did more than a century ago, and it retains the feel of times past. When you arrive, take a walking tour around the major sites of Hoi An’s charming Old Town, including a historic house (formerly home to a prominent trader), the Japanese Covered Bridge, a Chinese assembly hall and a museum. You’ll notice a distinctly Chinese appearance to the pagodas and assembly halls scattered along the small streets. A sightseeing pass is included in your tour for you to visit a selection of the major sights at your own pace.

  • Hoi An - Old Town walking tour

If you feel like getting active on your free day today, why not hire a bicycle and tour the surrounding countryside? This is one of the best ways to get an insight into rural Vietnam. Maybe take a day trip to My Son Cham (elaborate World Heritage-listed temples that reflect the rich cultural traditions of the Cham civilisation), or cruise along the Thu Bon River. You may like to wander the Central Market and the street stalls selling paintings, woodwork, ceramics and lanterns. Hoi An is also famous for its talented tailors, who can make items to order within a few hours. Bring your favourite piece of clothing or even just a picture, and you'll be able to have it copied!

  • Hoi An - Private Hoi An: My Son Discovery - USD77
  • Hoi An - Cooking class - USD33
  • Hoi An - Food Adventure Urban Adventure - USD44
  • Hoi An - Private Hoi An: Boat & Bike with Local Dinner Experience Urban Adventure - USD85

Today, enjoy a scenic drive through central Vietnam to the seaside city of Quy Nhon. On the way, visit Bich Hoa Tam Thanh village, famous for its murals and paintings on the wall that show a different side of Vietnam country life. Arrive at Quy Nhon in the early afternoon and head out on an orientation walk with your leader. Then, the rest of the afternoon is free for you to explore on your own or rest and recharge. This is your perfect chance to relax and put your feet up by the sea.

  • Bich Hoa Tam Thanh - village visit

Your travel time today will be approximately 5 hours.

This morning, enjoy a special visit to a local family that has practised martial arts for three generations. Meet the master of the family and learn about the secrets of his martial arts practice, learn about the health benefits, watch a demonstration and then try your moves at the master’s guidance. After, continue to the ancient citadel of Do Ban – the last capital of the Champa Kingdom where the Cham Kings lived between the 11th and the 15th centuries. Head back to Quy Nhon, maybe take the chance to freshen up at a hotel room or organise your luggage for the overnight train tonight.

  • Quy Nhon - Martial art master visit and demonstration
  • Quy Nhon - Do Ban ancient citadel

Your travel time on the overnight train will be approximately 12 hours.

Arrive in Ho Chi Minh City early this morning and make use of the shared hotel rooms to refresh up before your day tour. Formerly known as Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City is characterised by a fascinating blend of old and new, east and west. The huge number of people rushing about their daily lives in Vietnam's largest city gives it a dynamic atmosphere, and the French influence is evident in the excellent baguettes and coffee on offer. Take a guided tour with your leader to get a feel for the city, going past the GPO, Reunification Palace and the Opera House. Stop in at the War Remnants Museum and the Notre Dame Cathedral. With free time this evening, maybe drop by one of Vietnam’s most pulsing markets – Ben Thanh. This is the perfect place to pick up any last-minute snacks, cooking utensils, ingredients or gifts. Tonight, maybe enjoy some of the market’s fare for dinner as you shop or meet up with your group for a drink.

  • Ho Chi Minh City - War Remnants Museum
  • Ho Chi Minh City - City tour
  • Ho Chi Minh City - Reunification Palace - VND40000

Today, you'll travel south by private bus to explore the Mekong Delta. When you arrive, you’ll board a boat and explore the intricate waterways. Often referred to as ‘the rice bowl’ of Vietnam, the fertile delta is where rice, tropical fruit and flowers are grown for the whole country. Disembark at Ben Tre and visit a local cottage industry to sample the candy that the region is famous for. You’ll have the opportunity to take a tuk-tuk around this remote village and stop to sample tropical fruit, see a honey farm and learn more about rural life. For lunch, go to a restaurant in the heart of the delta and try regional specialities such as the famous elephant-ear fish. After lunch, board sampans (small rowing boats) and paddle along the canals under the shade of lush water coconut trees. Stay overnight at a guesthouse on the river and swap stories with your hosts.

  • Guest House (1 night)
  • Mekong Delta - Boat Cruise and Homestay
  • Mekong Delta - Guesthouse Dinner
  • Mekong Delta - Boat Cruise Lunch

Your travel time today will be approximately 3 hours.

Facilities at the guesthouse are basic and can vary as you’ll stay with several different families. You’ll sleep on camp beds in a communal room. Bedding and mosquito nets are provided. Your guesthouse will be located near the Mekong but may be off the banks of the river itself.

This morning, say goodbye to the Mekong Delta and take the bus back to Ho Chi Minh City. Enjoy a free afternoon to see any sights (or sample any delights) that you didn’t get a chance to previously. Maybe spend the final night of your Vietnam adventure with a bowl of pho, celebrating with your new friends and toasting to a trip well-travelled.

Xin chao! Welcome to Vietnam. Your adventure begins with a welcome meeting at 6 pm in Ho Chi Minh City. If you have free time before the meeting, get out and discover the city's blend of old and new, East and West at your own pace. The Reunification Palace and the War Remnants Museum are great sites to learn more about Vietnam's history. If you arrive a day or two early, the Cu Chi Tunnels and Mekong Delta make for excellent and insightful day trips from the city. After your meeting tonight, why not grab your group and head out for dinner.

  • Ho Chi Minh City - War Remnants Museum - VND40000

It’s very important that you attend the welcome meeting as we will be collecting insurance details and next of kin information at this time. If you are going to be late please let your travel agent or hotel reception know. Ask reception or look for a note in the lobby for more information on where the meeting will take place.

Travel by public bus across the border, through rural Vietnam and Cambodia and onto Phnom Penh. Cambodia's capital city is set on a major junction of the Mekong and Tonle Sap rivers and boasts some fine examples of French-inspired architecture. If you're looking for a tasty beverage when you arrive, head for a mojito on the rooftop or if you're in the mood for shopping, stop in at the art-deco Psar Thmei (Central Market) or travel out to Psar Tuol Tom Pong (the Russian Market) for the best range of local souvenirs.

Your travel time today will be approximately 10 hours including border crossing and lunch stop.

On the bus journey across the border, you will exit Vietnam at Moc Bai and enter Cambodia at Ba Vet. Your leader will assist you with border crossing procedures. You will also have the comfort of being on the same bus throughout the journey with less hassle at the border crossing by changing vehicles. If you’d prefer not to travel by bus today, you are welcome to book a flight instead (at your own expense).

Today, confront Cambodia's tragic past on a guided tour of the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21), a former school which served as a Khmer Rouge torture centre. It's estimated that more than 20,000 people were held and tortured here. You’ll also head out to the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek, where a stupa made up of some 8000 human skulls marks the execution ground for the torture victims of Tuol Sleng. Afterwards, you may wish to learn about a brighter period in Cambodian history from an optional visit to the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda. Wat Phnom, shrouded in myth, is equally worth a visit, as is the National Museum with its excellent Khmer collection. Cyclo tours around the city are a great alternative to walking and generally include the Central Market, US Embassy, Wat Phnom, Mekong riverfront, the Independence Monument and Royal Palace.

  • Phnom Penh - The Killing Fields of Choeung Ek
  • Phnom Penh - Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21)
  • Phnom Penh - Royal Palace & Silver Pagoda - USD10
  • Phnom Penh - Wat Phnom - USD2
  • Phnom Penh - National Museum - USD10
  • Phnom Penh - Cyclo tour - USD4
  • Phnom Penh - Khmer massage - USD8

The stories and history shared at the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek and Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21) are confronting and many travellers will find them upsetting. This is an important part of Cambodia’s recent history that we feel is important for travellers to know. If you would prefer not to join these activities your leader can recommend some optional alternatives. Some further information on visiting these sites can be found here: intrepidtravel.com/adventures/importance-visiting-cambodia-killing-fields

Travel by private minibus to Battambang today. Break up an otherwise long trip with a visit to the pottery visit in Kampong Chhnang, and learn about the craft of pottery making at local workshops. Then continue to Cambodia's second-largest city. A pretty riverside town of French elegance, friendly Khmer people and beautifully preserved colonial architecture, this is a great place to explore on your own. Why not take part in an optional cooking class to learn the secrets of local dishes such as amok, Khmer curry and fried spicy chicken.

  • Kampong Chhnang - Pottery village visit
  • Battambang - Cooking Class - USD12
  • Battambang - Phnom Sampov bat caves - USD15

Your travel time today will be approximately 6 hours.

Spend a bit of time riding around the countryside by bike, travelling out to the rural villages around Battambang. This is a great opportunity to get a closer look at what rural life means in Cambodia. Visit local families who have been producing agricultural products the traditional way passed down through generations, like rice paper, dried bananas, and bamboo sticky rice and stop by a Khmer house and relax and enjoy some coconut water while chatting about their life. The Intrepid partner for this activity is a local social enterprise that support training of local youth for their future career. In the afternoon continue by private minibus to Siem Reap, arriving in the evening, and relax as you prepare for your much-anticipated visit to Angkor tomorrow. Perhaps hit the markets for some delicious street food for dinner.

  • Battambang - countryside cycling tour and local snack tasting

The distance covered by bicycle is approximately 24 kms. If you prefer not to cycle, please let your leader know and they will arrange remork (tuk tuk) transportation (cost included).

A very rewarding morning to get to Angkor Wat in the early hours to watch the sun rising over it as it did in the ancient times (weather permitting). Then Temple-hop with your local guide and make the most of your visit to the world-famous Angkor complex. The temples, dating back as far as the ninth century, were believed to represent the cosmic world and were set in perfect balance, symmetry and composition. The intricately carved bas-reliefs and architectural designs are mind-blowing and there are spectacular photo opportunities at any time of day. Watching a sunrise or sunset is a must. The ruins are scattered over an area of some 160 square km, but the main cluster of temples is close to Siem Reap, so there will be plenty of time to fully appreciate the great archaeological sites of Angkor Wat, Bayon and the jungle-covered Ta Prohm.

  • Siem Reap - Three day Angkor Pass
  • Siem Reap - Angkor Temples Guided Tour
  • Siem Reap - Sunrise at Angkor Wat

Temperatures and humidity can be high in Cambodia, especially walking around sights like the Angkor complex where there may be little shade. Be prepared by taking plenty of drink breaks and wearing appropriate skin protection. Some travellers find an umbrella handy to keep the sun off.

Continue your explorations of the Angkor complex this morning. In the afternoon, embark on a private local boat discover the floating villages and local daily lives at Chhong Kneas, a trading port of agricultural products on the edge of Tonle Sap Lake, also known as the Great Lake of Cambodia.

  • Chong Kneas - Tonle Sap floating village visit
  • Siem Reap - Angkor Zipline Silver Tour - USD54
  • Siem Reap - Landmine Museum - USD5
  • Siem Reap - Phare Circus Ticket - USD18
  • Siem Reap - Angkor Zipline Gold Tour - USD87

It's a long drive by private minibus from Siem Reap to Bangkok today. Arrive in Thailand's bustling capital and take in this exciting world of tuk tuks, khlong boats, and street vendors serving up delicious Thai food. Perhaps head out to sample some local specialties as a final farewell with your fellow travellers.

Your travel time today will be approximately 10 hours.

If you prefer not to travel by bus for the day, you are welcome to book a flight between the two cities instead. This flight will be at your own expense, however Intrepid can assist with Airport transfers where required.

Due to strict immigration laws your Cambodian trip leader will escort you to the Cambodian side of the border where you will say farewell before going through immigration unaccompanied. Once exiting immigration you will be met by one of our Thai trip leaders who will escort you to Bangkok. All of our trip leaders have been briefed to ensure this is a simple and smooth process.

Your trip comes to an end this morning, with no further activities planned. However, if you have more time, Bangkok is full of things to do, including the Grand Palace, Temple of the Emerald Buddha, and the fascinating Jim Thompson museum. Agency Debit/Credit Memo Policy

In accordance with Vietnam Airlines' Sales Accounting Manual and IATA Resolution 850m (Passenger Agency Conference Resolution Manual) Vietnam Airlines would like to detail the Vietnam Airlines Revenue Recovery policy concerning the Agency Debit Memo (ADMs) policy. The purpose of this document is to make clear to agents all the circumstances under which ADMs will be raised.

1.1 Vietnam Airlines (VN) will issue an ADM to collect amounts or make adjustments to agent transactions related to the issuance and use of VN traffic documents, issued by or at the request of the agent, regardless of which airlines are included in the itinerary of the VN traffic document. An ADM may also be used to collect amounts where a traffic document has not been issued if agreed upon by the agent (example: for deposits for group sales). 1.2   It is VN ticket issuance policy to mandate the use of electronic tickets (ETs). 1.3  All clauses in this document are the standard ADMs policy. In case VN and agent have other bilateral agreement on issuing ADM policy, the bilateral agreement will prevail.

2. Key points:

2.1  Minimum ADM Value   The minimum ADM value is USD 10 or equivalent, except in the case of taxes. In the case of persistent practice of under collection (multiple occurrences of underpayments of less than USD 10 or equivalent) by the same agent, VN reserves the right to recover those underpayments. More than one ADM in relation to the same original ticket can be raised if different, unrelated charges apply. Grouping of multiple tickets on one ADM may be allowed under the conditions that the audit reasons are the same for all grouped tickets and all tickets were issued by the same agent. 2.2  ADM Administrative  charge VN will not levy administration charges to cover the cost of ADM issuance by VN. 2.3  ADM Settlement   Agency Debit Memos will be raised and settled via the BSP link if sent within nine months after final travel date/refund date. Where the final travel date cannot be established for any reasons, the expiry date of the document shall be used. Beyond that date, payment settlement will be handled directly between the airline and the agency. ARC Debit Memos will be loaded in the ARC Memo Manager.  2.4  ADM Dispute Handling   Disputes can only be done via BSPLink. It is VN’s intention to handle disputed ADMs in a timely manner.  Agents have the right to raise disputes within 15 days of receipt of ADM. If no dispute is raised within this time-frame, the dispute will not be accepted by VN. Upon receipt of dispute, VN will reply within 60 days stating acceptance or denial of the dispute with a clear explanation.  2.5  ACM Issuance   In the case unjustified ADMs have been issued by VN or when an ADM requires corrections in favor of the agent, an ACM can be issued to that agent covering the amount due.

3.  Contact Information

For further inquiries related to fare audit ADM/ACM, please contact your local Vietnam Airlines' office. Vietnam Airlines reserves the right to amend, adapt and/or partially delete the ADM policy at any time with prior notice.
