The heritage arc, uttar pradesh tourism.

Embedded in the heart of India is Uttar Pradesh, a land where cultures have evolved and religions have emerged. The greatness of Uttar Pradesh lies not only in this confluence but also in the emegence of cultural and religious traditions along some of the greatest rivers in the Indian subcontinent, the Ganga and the Yamuna. Through history, great cities have emerged and been established along great rivers. Within India, the Ganga and the Yamuna have nurtured a culture because of which religious faith, rituals, culture, and intellectual enlightenment have evolved in places along the two rivers.

Yogi govt eyes on global tourism, to promote 'Brand UP' as 'Most Favourite Tourist Destination'

As part of the global promotion plan for uttar pradesh tourism and 'brand up,' efforts will be made to ensure that branding activities in foreign countries take place in areas with maximum footfall..

Arushi Jaiswal

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh has developed a comprehensive action plan to position the state as 'Brand UP' and 'Most Favourite Tourist Destination' nationally and internationally. This plan emphasises the crucial role of participating in international trade shows, travel fairs, and expos to achieve this goal.

According to the Chief Minister's office, the extensive promotion strategy includes utilising various channels such as organizing roadshows and widespread campaigns. The overarching goal is to elevate the state's visibility on the global tourism stage.

Here's list of international events that UP govt will target

Among these countries, Japan, Israel, China, America, France, Singapore, Britain, Australia, Germany, Russia, and the UAE are prominent. Simultaneously, a detailed plan has been devised to highlight Uttar Pradesh as a tourist hotspot during various events in approximately 50 cities across 28 countries, including India.

The Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department has begun implementing these strategies, actively involving agencies in building the international brand, marketing, publicity, and operational aspects, with a special emphasis on hosting national and international roadshows.

The international events that will be targeted through this process include ITB Asia (Singapore), IFTM Top Resa Paris (France), JATA Tokyo (Japan), WTM London (UK), USTOA, FITUR Madrid (Spain), AIME Melbourne ( Australia), IMTM Tel Aviv (Israel), MITT Moscow (Russia), ATM Dubai (UAE), and COTTM Beijing (China). The execution involves organising promotional and brand development campaigns at all selected international locations, along with coordination with Indian embassies to ensure the success of the initiative.

UP govt to target THESE countries

According to the plan, international roadshows are planned for cities such as London, Manchester, Birmingham, and Glasgow in the UK; Madrid, Bilbao, and Barcelona in Spain; Rome and Milan in Italy; and Berlin, Munich, and Frankfurt in Germany. Similarly, roadshows will be conducted and stalls will be set up at exhibitions in Lisbon, Portugal; Oslo, Norway; Stockholm, Sweden; Paris, France; The Hague, Netherlands; and Helsinki, Finland.

'Brand UP' and Uttar Pradesh tourism will also be extensively promoted in major American cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago. Moreover, international roadshows are scheduled for Buenos Aires (Argentina), Brasilia (Brazil), Shanghai and Beijing (China), and Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane (Australia).

In the Gulf countries, the promotional efforts will target cities such as Dubai (UAE), Muscat (Oman), Doha (Qatar), Kuwait City (Kuwait), Beirut (Lebanon), Moscow (Russia), and Tel Aviv (Israel).

Promotional activities in South East Asian countries will cover Singapore, Bangkok (Thailand), Tokyo (Japan), Phnom Penh (Cambodia), Manila (Philippines), Hanoi (Vietnam), Jakarta (Indonesia), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Seoul (South Korea), Colombo (Sri Lanka), Thimphu (Bhutan), and Kathmandu (Nepal).

Efforts are underway to ensure that branding activities for Uttar Pradesh tourism and 'Brand UP' are conducted in areas with high footfall in foreign countries as part of the global promotion plan.

Proposals from channel partners, media house owners, and owners of media outlets are being awaited to finalize the work at major airports, railway stations, bus stations, metro stations, and cities.

Preparations have also commenced to execute a comprehensive promotional and branding campaign across prime and non-prime time slots, TV and radio media houses, print, digital, and other media platforms both domestically and internationally. Furthermore, a large-scale publicity and brand development campaign is set to be implemented through an agency at specific national locations in line with the directives provided by the Department of Tourism.

The Yogi Adityanath-led government of Uttar Pradesh began a phase-by-phase campaign to promote rural tourism in the state.

Let's take a look at agritourism in India and the man who pioneered it as he prepares 18 districts for rural tourism

The Yogi Adityanath led government of Uttar Pradesh began a phase-by-phase campaign to promote rural tourism in the state. With the campaign, the UP government plans to reintroduce the nation and its people to the village’s way of life.

During the first phase of the campaign, 18 districts have been chosen to endorse rural tourism. The government will select two villages from each of these districts to attract tourists. Uttar Pradesh has the most villages in the country and has a vast potential for agricultural tourism.

Villagers will receive training in traditional cuisines, handicraft productions, cow husbandry, handloom weaving and biological and agricultural diversity. Around 26 new and enhanced villages should be ready to welcome visitors very soon.

What is Agritourism ?

Agritourism is the most recent concept in the Indian tourism business, and it usually takes place on farmlands. During their stay, guests get the chance to engage in a real, enthralling, and authentic interaction with rural life, experience authentic local cuisine, and become familiar with a variety of farming jobs. Tourists can unwind and rejuvenate in the pristine natural environment.

Because of rapid urbanisation, many many children and adults are unfamiliar with what rural life and agriculture look like. However, with agritourism, they can get a first-hand experience of village life and culture.

Varanasi tourist numbers top 10 crore level, a big boost to economy: PM Modi

The record-breaking increase in tourists in Varanasi in recent years is attributable to the opening of the revamped Kashi Viswanath corridor as well as the Centre's fresh impetus to religious tourism. In his Sunday's 'Mann Ki Baat', PM Modi said the tourist footfall in Varanasi has crossed 10 crore a year. Independent surveys have pegged the footfall in Varanasi at an eight-fold increase as compared to Goa in 2022.

Taj Mahal Missing From UP Tourism Promotional Advertisement

 alt=

This is the second instance when the 17th-century monument has gone missing from the publicity material released by UPTD in the past three years of the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government.

UPTD had, on September 27, published an advertisement in Hindi and English dailies featuring tourism sites of the state.

The advertisement titled “Welcome to Uttar Pradesh, the land of tranquillity and enlightenment,” had details of a webinar that was scheduled to be held on Sunday, in the presence of Minister of State for Tourism & Culture, Dr Neelkanth Tewari.

The iconic Taj Mahal attracts more tourists than any other site in India - over six million tourists every year - while it gives employment to more than four lakh people directly or indirectly, as per media reports.

Taj Mahal was built by Mughal Emperor Shahjahan in the memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal in Agra on the banks of the Yamuna River. The UNESCO world heritage site has found itself at the centre of politics since Yogi Adityanath took over the reins of the Uttar Pradesh government as its chief minister.

In 2017, UPTD had published a booklet on completion of six months of the BJP government. It was the first instance when the Taj Mahal was omitted from any publicity material released by UPTD which comes under the Ministry of Tourism.

The 32-page booklet titled “Uttar Pradesh Tourism: Its High Potential” mentioned various Hindu and Buddhist sites but omitted the Taj Mahal. The government had drawn flak from different quarters then, as people accused the Yogi-led BJP of playing politics over the famous heritage site considered as a symbol of eternal love.

Recently, Yogi renamed the Mughal Museum in Agra as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum.

While rechristening the under-construction museum near Taj Mahal, the chief minister had asked, “How can Mughals be our heroes?”

Ironically though, when American President Donald Trump visited Agra in February earlier this year, the CM gifted him a portrait of the Taj Mahal.

How the Yogi Adityanath government plans to promote rural tourism in UP

According to the UP chief minister’s office, to start with, 18 districts have been identified for promotion of rural tourism. These are Lucknow, Lakhimpur Kheri, Mathura, Aligarh, Agra, Firozabad, Varanasi, Azamgarh, Prayagraj, Bhadohi, Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Jhansi, Lalitpur, Ayodhya, Barabanki, Chitrakoot and Banda. From each of these districts, the state government will pick two villages for showcasing. A senior official in the CM’s office said more districts will be included in future in phases.

Mukesh Meshram, principal secretary, tourism and culture, said advisory organisations for the first 18 districts to be covered have already been selected. “Though our department, in addition to encouraging better agricultural practices, craftsmanship, handloom and handicrafts, we are beginning the process of promoting the rich historical, religious and cultural heritage of UP’s villages,” he said.

The advisory organisations will first conduct a survey in the 18 districts. The surveyors will contact the district magistrates as well as tourism stakeholders about issues pertaining to rural tourism, said an official of the CM’s office.

A state government official said Adityanath is of the view that promoting rural tourism will help bolster the rural economy. Speaking at an event recently, Adityanath had stressed on the holistic development of gram panchayats in UP. Of the estimated 250,000 gram panchayats in India, over 58,000 are in UP. “These gram panchayats will play crucial role in achieving UP’s target of becoming a $1 trillion economy [by 2027],” Adityanath said.

After the formation of the Adityanath government in 2017, an aim was set to promote local economies and rural tourism with the help of village youth. These groupings were aptly named Yuvak Mangal Dals and Mahila Mangal Dals and were to be trained as ‘Paryatan Mitra’. The government’s tourism policy of 2018 made a special mention of village and agri-tourism as well as Mangal Dals.

In its second term, the state government has constituted an Eco-tourism Board. The government has also decided to make the Mangal Dals more proactive. Its volunteers will be trained to promote local tourism, the highlight being indigenous and specialised products, handicrafts, garments and other traditional goods manufactured by local artisans, particularly in villages and rural areas. According to the tourism department, 78,000 Mangal Dals are registered in the state. Of this, 42,000 are Yuvak Dals and 36,000 Mahila Dals. The groups comprise members in the age group of 15 to 35 years.

From rural to spiritual, UP govt plans to tap state’s tourism potential

To achieve its target of Rs 10,000 crore investment in the tourism sector, the government is chalking out strategies to develop “Focus Tourists Destinations” and theme-based tourism.

uttar pradesh tourism advertisement

Building on the success of Ramayana and Buddhist tourist circuits, the Uttar Pradesh government has lined up a number of plans to tap the state’s tourism potential and is hopeful that its revamped tourism policy would be able to attract investors and generate revenue and employment.

uttar pradesh tourism advertisement

At a curtain raiser for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Global Investors Summit-2023, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath called tourism the “priority sector” for the state.

The new tourism policy also lists 12 “Thematic Tourism Sectors,” which include heritage, art and culture, spiritual and religious tourism, rural village, tribal and agriculture-based tourism, nature and wildlife, water sports, adventure tourism, wellness and medical tourism, youth centric tourism, cuisine tourism, wedding destination tourism and film tourism.

Uttar Pradesh is home to three UNESCO world heritage monuments — Taj Mahal, Fatehpur Sikri and Agra Fort. It is dotted with several religious and cultural sites such as Ayodhya, Varanasi, Sarnath, Kushinagar Mathura and Vrindavan. The state also has a rich biodiversity of flora and fauna including one national park, 11 wildlife sanctuaries and 24 bird sanctuaries.

Festive offer

In its theme-based tourism, the government is planning to take taking tourists to remote villages as part of its rural, village, tribal and agriculture tourism to capitalise on its farm-based economy.

“This, for instance, will provide tourists with the opportunity to experience rustic life. Tourists can therefore experience the daily activities of the village… It will also include film tourism, which will allow visitors to witness movies being shot in rural settings,” an official said.

“Farm and plantation tourism can augment the income from agricultural activities and de-risk farmers to some extent from weather vagaries,” the new tourism policy states.

An “agri tourism” sector has been separately created for promotion under the new policy, which states that “agri tourism” is a form of “niche tourism” that includes active involvement in any agriculture-based operation or activity.

The policy promises a wide range of services and activities that may be offered under agri tourism, including guided tours, participation in agricultural activities, knowledge sessions, animal rides and local cuisine.

Another significant focus of the new tourism policy is on promoting “religious and spiritual” tourism by developing 12 mega circuits across the state, including Ramayana Circuit, Krishna or Braj Circuit, Buddhist Circuit, Sufi Kabir Circuit, Jain Circuit, Shakti Peeth Circuit, Adhyatmik Circuit (Spiritual), Bundelkhand Circuit, Freedom Fighters Circuit, Mahabharata Circuit, Wildlife and Eco-Tourism Circuit circuit.

It aims to provide travellers with “a hassle-free, serene and spiritual experience” while visiting the “crucible of religious, spiritual, and academic thoughts.”

“Focus shall be placed on interconnecting the state circuits with national and international travel itineraries. End-to-end infrastructure development would be undertaken to facilitate seamless national and international connectivity,” the policy states.

Uttar Pradesh: Former DGP Vijay Kumar Singh joins BJP ahead of Lok Sabha polls

With less than two weeks to go for the Lok Sabha elections, former Director General of Police (DGP) of Uttar Pradesh, Vijay Kumar Singh along with his wife, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday. Singh joined the BJP at the party's office in Lucknow in the presence of Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak.

Singh, while speaking to ANI, hailed the government at the Centre and in the state, saying that the law and order have improved during the BJP rule. "Law and order have improved under the state leadership of PM Modi and CM. I will be able to work for the country in a better way by joining the party," the former DGP said.

Several leaders from Samajwadi Party, Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) have also joined the BJP today. State Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak exuded his confidence in his party winning all the parliamentary seats of the state.

"Several political leaders have joined BJP today. Former DGP Vijay Kumar has also joined the party today. BSP's National spokesperson Dharamveer ji along with others joined the party today. We will work towards winning all 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh," Pathak said. Lok Sabha polls will be held in seven phases beginning April 19. Uttar Pradesh, which sends the maximum number of MPs, 80, to Parliament, will vote in all seven phases.

With political dynamics shifting in the state, the BJP is spearheading a robust alliance, encompassing parties like the RLD, SBSP, Apna Dal (S), and Nishad Party, bolstering its position. On the other hand, while Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav aligns with the opposition bloc, Mayawati embarks on the electoral journey solo.

Uttar Pradesh will vote in all seven phases. Voting for phases one and two will be held on April 19 and April 26. Next, the state will once again poll in phases three and four on May 7 and May 13.

The Uttar Pradesh electorate will also vote in phases five, six, and seven on May 20, May 23, and June 1, respectively. Polling in Meerut will take place on April 26, during the second phase. The votes will be counted on June 4. (ANI)
