Urban bikes, trek 7.5 fx wsd bike review, looking for a sturdy steed in the cycle to work scheme budget, the trek 7.5 fx wsd could just be the ticket..

The Trek 7.5 FX WSD (Women’s Specific Design) is a hybrid bike with flat handlebars and road bike features designed for fitness cycling.

Is it a “Jack of all trades” or a “Master of none”? The Reluctant Cyclist puts the Trek through its paces.

velo trek 7.5

Trek offer 6 women’s specific designs in their FX range. The Trek 7.5 FX WSD sits just below the top of the range model, incorporating more road bike features than the lower numbered models. I’m not quite sure what Trek mean by ‘fitness cycling’, but if it’s not racing, mountain biking or commuting I guess it is fitness cycling.

The frame comes in a fetching teal colour with white trim and pedals. The women’s specific design is halfway between a step-through frame and a traditional men’s toptube and the overall geometry is more reflective of a woman’s stature. It is available in three sizes (15”, 17” and 19”) to cater for all heights.

The riser bar and flat handlebars provide a fairly upright riding position, but by no means sit up and beg, which works well for commuter and city cycling.  The bike doesn’t come with mudguards or pannier rack, but there are fixtures to enable these to be fitted after purchase.  To use the Trek 7.5 FX WSD as a commuter bike these would be a necessity and would add another £75 or so to the £750 purchase price.

velo trek 7.5

Although saddles are always very personal, reviewers on Trek’s own site comment that the Bontrager Evoke 1 women’s saddle doesn’t offer a high degree of comfort and I would concur with this.  Also, being white, it quickly discoloured when wearing jeans. However, this is easy to remedy, by either buying a new saddle of swapping your old one in.

velo trek 7.5

The ergonomic handgrips provided a high degree of comfort on longer rides. Other comfort features include a vibration damping carbon front fork and ‘Isozone monostay’, which cuts vibration between the back wheel and the saddle.  These combine with the handgrips to minimise the road ‘buzz’ and they certainly gave a smooth ride over most tarmac and paths.

There are two front chain rings and nine gears on each ring, which gave good coverage for the flat and small hills.  I would have liked to see a third (triple) chain ring to take the bike out into hillier territory.  If you’re set to cycle predominately over hilly terrain, this may not be the bike for you.

velo trek 7.5

The brake and gear levers moved easily and were well placed for my average sized hands. The remaining components were also of a high quality and were chosen with weight and compactness in mind.  The rim brakes worked well in the wet and the dry and I never felt unsafe or unstable.

I didn’t test the wheels over glass shards so I can’t vouch for the puncture resistant tyres but riding over canal towpaths, city and country roads and in the park I encountered no problems.

The bike freewheeled easily, and I often found myself cruising along without needing to pedal while others had to put in effort. On short ‘to the shops’ rides the Trek 7.5 FX WSD, due to being lightweight was very nippy and easy to manoeuvre around the city. On longer rides of over an hour the upright position and ergonomics gave a comfortable ride, which often felt like I did not have to work hard for the speeds I was achieving.

The ride quality was so high that I genuinely wanted to take the Trek out instead of riding (or driving) anything else.  High praise indeed!

The Trek 7.5 FX WSD is very nippy and combines some high quality components with a well-fitting frame to produce a go (nearly) anywhere bike, which is comfortable to ride.

– Responsive and manoeuvrable – Not ‘girly’ but girl-friendly – Mid upright riding position suits around town biking

– A triple chainset would have made hills easier – No chainguard, which means you have to be careful with what you wear

Trek 7.6 FX WSD review

Trek's FX models are flat-barred bikes with city riding in mind.

Cass Gilbert©.

cara coolbaugh

velo trek 7.5

Trek's FX models are flat-barred bikes with city riding in mind. The top of the range 7.6 is the most speed orientated of the lot, with zippy looks and a lively ride that makes it a good fitness tool as well. With hydroformed aluminium tubing it's fairly lightweight overall (and the lightest on test), which makes all the difference on those long climbs.

Luckily the frameset isn't lacking in useful details either - there are well-spaced rear rack mounts, mudguard eyelets, generous tyre clearances front and rear and a disc mount. Forks are carbon fibre for weight-saving and to dampen out road vibrations.

There's only one bottle mount on the down-tube, but as the frame features a low standover height, two bottles wouldn't have fitted anyway. The frame has a high quality look with tidy welding, thoughtful cable routing and an attractive matt grey finish.

Making its mark as a flat-barred road bike, rather than hybrid, the 7.6 FX has a 50/36 compact chainset >and 11-26t cassette. This means it has a higher (harder) gear range than the other bikes on test. On the plus side, the gearing encourages you to push yourself on the climbs and flats. However, for better versatility and load-carrying commuter duties, a triple chainset would have been sensible - the 7.5 and 7.2 both have triples. The wheelset will also appeal to the racer in you, with flashy black spokes and fast rolling 700x28c RaceLite tyres. The riding position is still fairly upright, comfortable and great for visibility in traffic.

The brake levers and grips are specially designed for women to give a closer reach. Shifting is smooth and easy thanks to the Shimano components, including the 105 rear mech. A carbon seatpost and ladies Bontrager cut-out perch finish it off.

This is a followup on the my previous review. The frame broke at just about the rear axle.

Judging by service I received from the local distributor, Israel is excluded from Trek's lifetime frame warranty. Keep that in mind when buying this bike.

Price value, Handling, shifts smoothly, seat is decent, comfortable riding position (aggressive but still somewhat upright), nice components, brakes well. -- Concrete Pavers

None so far

I wanted a bit of a road bike feel in the nimble handling and a comfort bike feel in a more upright, though fitness oriented riding position. I have had an older fx model Trek and let's face it, the frames and components on new bikes today have been cheapened way down while the prices have gone way up. This bike resolves that trend. Its got a reasonable pricetag for its category and a very light frame and decent components. It has 21 speeds, trigger shifters, beefy tires for bike path riding, quality enough double walled rims, and a much lighter frame than the Verve, which I seriously considered. You can add a rack front and rear and add fenders. You can add an adjustable stem or swap to a more upright stem if you want to sit more upright. I find the saddle and grips to be somewhat comfortable as well. The pedals are standard fair but always get swapped out and I have moved on from clipless to lightweight bmx platform style years ago. It is a sharp looking ride in a dark gloss gray black they call "lithium". I think it is just beautiful and stealth looking. Of the competition out there now in the new fitness hybrid line up, I think this one is tops. I love this bike!

The components are serviceable and adequate to get the shifting and braking done. The crank arms look budget compared to older Treks, as does the handlebar. Think back to the way Bontrager bits looked 10 to 15 years ago on Treks and you can see the cheapening down. The frame is not on a par with the old "superlight aluminum" of yore but it doesn't feel tank like. I easily lift it into my SUV. With the bike shortage due to the pandemic these issues are negligible. I am more than pleased with the quality of this bike and am looking forward to the spring thaw so I can get it out on the rail trails. Meanwhile I am enjoying just looking at its beautiful lines right here in my living room and dreaming of sweet spring rides to come. Highly recommend this to anyone looking for a really versatile ride choice.

I really don’t know how to troubleshoot that to be completely honest because I have never experienced that when I was using my Gmail account. I think this bug stems from the fact that you guys are not using Gmail at all and are stuck in your ways when using those lower tier email platforms. I would suggest that you guys ditch your old email accounts and make a new one with Gmail so that you won’t have to deal with this sort of problem anymore. Also, it will help you play the battle cats official a bit faster because they don’t require Gmail users to submit their passwords anymore every time they access among us on windows.

Always the bridesmaid.

I ride and do basic maintenance for two FX 1 bikes (previously FX 7.1) since 2017. Mainly used for urban commuting on bike paths and a short tarmac path. The frame is strong. before commuting on the Trek FX 1, my commuting experience includes 30 years of commuting on a 10spd Raleigh. Never broke or bent an axle.

Avoid. It is a cheap bike, and by cheap, I do not refer to the price tag: 1. The stock Wellgo pedals are not suitable for urban rides. By the time the metal frame of the pedal meets a curb it is bent and no longer be bent back and screwed into the cheap plastic pedal skeleton - replaced by Wellgo MG-1pedals. 2. The Bontrager tires lack even the basic puncture protection - Replaced with Schwalbe Marathon Racer tires. 3. The Bontrager AT-750wheel are built by a machine. Upon purchase the spokes are not equally tension-ed and tend to break. On top of this, the rear wheel axle - Hollow one to accommodate quick release - literally cracked and broke 3 times. I weigh 170lbs. and my son 130lbs, and the bike is spec-ed 300lbs. We do not jump curbs and we do try to avoid potholes. Maybe this has something to do with the freewheel setup. 4. The square tapered VP (68mm/121.5mm) bottom bracket is of low quality. 5. The chain is Z-series KMC which quickly wears out the drive train (especially the Sunrace 7spd FreeWheel) - replaced by KMC X series, Shimano 7spd freewheel & a Shimano 361 crankset. BTW. my FX 1 did not come stocked with a Shimano crankset! it was a "SMA" crankset. 6. One should really use a Shimano aluminum-rim-friendly brake pads rather than the stock Tektro pads.

Price value, Handling, shifts smoothly, seat is decent, comfortable riding position (aggressive but still somewhat upright), nice components, brakes well

Not the fastest bike in the world, but fast enough that you'll leave all the Walmart bikes in the dust! (I ride circles around my brother's mongoose)

I love my Trek 7.1FX, the bike does everything that I need it to do, smooth ride on the trail, fast on the streets, great for commuting; however, I use it predominantly on the bike paths and it flys! This is a great entry bike at an entry level price!
