The best time to visit Miami is in the Spring—from about mid-February through May. The weather is warm, hurricane season hasn’t started, and the humidity of summer hasn’t fully arrived. It’s also nearing the end of the high season, so crowd sizes will be smaller and prices will have dropped. Plus, the water is warm so you’ll be able to hit the beach and enjoy all the greatness that Florida has to offer. 

Florida is hot and sunny for the majority of the year, so in truth, there’s never a bad time to visit. But use this guide to help you figure out the best time of year that works for you!

Many people make the mistake of thinking that it doesn’t matter when they visit Miami because it’s just one long summer season. But, this is not true. Although, the majority of the year is warm to hot and, even during the coldest months, it usually doesn’t dip below the high 50s F, there are still seasons with very different personalities. For one, summer in Miami is excruciatingly hot, humid, and rainy. It rains almost every day in the summer. Storms usually only last from about 15 minutes to an hour, and then the sun comes out and the humidity level rises. If you are planning a trip during the summer months, expect rainfall at some point during your time down south. Thunder and lightning storms are fairly common as well. 

Hurricane Season in Florida

June through the end of November is hurricane season in Florida. That doesn’t necessarily mean there will be any hurricanes, but being prepared is important, especially if you’re visiting from somewhere far away. Of course, this doesn’t usually deter many people from visiting, summer is one of the busiest times of year to visit Florida, mainly due to the fact that kids are out of school and families can take an extended vacation. But, if you do plan a trip during hurricane season, it’s recommended to get travel insurance just in case. 

Prices During High Season

The end of November through mid-April, particularly the time around the holidays, is high season throughout Florida. From snowbirds to students to anyone looking to escape the snow — expect large crowds and higher costs. Flights and hotels tend to book up fast and prices can get pretty high as you get closer to the season, so book early. 

Traveling during high season does come with its perks, though. For example, from about Thanksgiving through New Year’s, every palm tree in Miami is adorned in sparkling lights, which adds an ambiance you wouldn’t normally get any other time of the year. Also, as much as prices overall may tend to be higher, there are a lot more deals and sales available too, so be on the lookout. 

Winter: December, January, February

This is the high season in Miami for good reason. The weather is usually in the high 70s with very low humidity and little rain. The beaches are at their best this time of year and, although the crowds may be a bit larger, with so much sandy coastline, there is room for everyone by the sea. Hotels tend to be a little bit more expensive this time of year, so book your stay early. 

Events to Check out:

• The annual  Miami Marathon happens at the end of January or the beginning of February. Started in 2003, the event attracts all types of runners from around the world, both professional and amateur.
• Art Basel is an annual international show of modern and contemporary art that takes place in South Beach the first week of December. The show attracts a long list of attendees—from celebrities to royalty, it’s a scene, to say the least. During the week of Art Basel many hotels, bars, and clubs will host events, parties, and the like, some open to the public and some not. If you’re visiting during the week of the show, expect larger crowds and traffic.

Spring: March, April, May

Spring is by far the most beautiful time to visit Miami. The humidity of the summer hasn’t fully hit yet and but the weather is warmer than winter with highs in the 80s. You can expect some rain, but not enough to ruin your trip. It’s the best season for rooftop happy hours or sunset cocktails on the beach. The one downside for some? Spring break . This is the time of year the city tends to get overrun by college kids on vacation, so bars and clubs get crowded pretty quickly. It’s always a good idea to make reservations in Miami, but it’s especially important during springtime. 

• One of the premier tennis events, the  Miami Open , takes place at the end of March every year, spilling into April.
• Ultra Music Festival is an annual EDM festival that takes place during the last weekend in March. The three-day concert attracts a younger crowd that likes to party. Past musical acts have included Afrojack, David Guetta, Tiesto, and DeadMau5.
• Miami Beach Gay Pride takes place annually with varying dates. What started as a small local event has blossomed into one of the largest gay pride gatherings in the country. The multi-day event includes a parade, block party, live music, and lots of LGBT-friendly vendors. 

Summer: June, July, August

There’s only one word to describe a Miami summer: hot. Temperatures can reach the high 90s and rain is frequent. But, despite the mosquitoes, frizzy hair, and constant sweat, this is still one of the most popular times to visit the city. The beach in Miami is definitely at its best during the summer, the water is warm and the waves are perfect. Sunblock and bug spray are a must during summer, even on a cloudy day it’s easy to get sunburn. It’s also the heart of mosquito season, so try and stay covered during early evening hours or right after a rainfall when the mosquitoes are out the most. 

• Swim Week is a Fashion Week event that takes place in July. The week includes swimwear fashion shows from top designers, pool parties, cocktail hours, and lots of pop-up shops. You can expect to see lots of models running around South Beach this week.
• If you’re a foodie, or just love to eat, visit the city during  Miami Spice . Participating restaurants across the city offer three-course meals at reduced rates—$28 for lunch/brunch and $42 for dinner. It’s a great time to eat at the places you normally would never dream of going to. Reservations are strongly recommended.

Fall: September, October, November

This is probably the quietest time to visit the city as summer is winding down and school is starting back up. But it’s still a great time to come down. Hurricane season is still in full-swing until November, so expect rain and humidity. The temperature tends to be in the mid-80s which means it’s still a great time to hit the beach. Truthfully, anytime of year is a great time to hit the beach in Miami. The crowds are also a bit smaller this season which is a good thing if you’re looking to save on your trip. 

• The  South Beach Seafood Festival takes place in October every year. This four-day festival showcases the best of the best in Miami culinary cuisine. Tasting events, live music, and lots of seafood abound at the event. It’s a great place to spend the day with family, friends, or both.
• If you happen to be in Miami on Halloween, head to the  Lincoln Road Halloween party. As the night approaches the outdoor mall turns into Miami’s spookiest Halloween event. Wear a costume and come ready for a night of freakish fun. A kid’s version even takes place earlier in the day from 5-8 p.m. 

The best time to visit Miami is in the spring, when the weather is warm and before hurricane season hits. During this time, humidity is low and the summer crowds have not yet arrived.

Hurricane season in Miami (and in all of Florida, in general) starts June 1 and lasts through November. Peak season typically hits during the months of August and September.

Miami is less likely to see crowds during the months of February through April, excluding President's Day and spring break. Crowds tend to be the highest in the winter.

1. Have a spine-chilling good time at The Horrorland

Enjoy the adrenaline rush of a good scare at this year’s The Horrorland Scare Park experience! Miami is most known for being a hub of Latin American culture with a 24/7 party atmosphere, and that’s not wrong. But as one of the fastest growing metro areas in the country, the city clearly has even more to offer every sort of traveler. 

So how do you choose where to spend your time and money in Miami? Yes, there are nightclubs and bars a-plenty. But there are also world-class museums, literary events, all kinds of sports, theater and more Latin cuisine than you ever even knew existed. No matter your interests, these are the best things to do in the Magic City.

1. Order a cafecito from a ventanita

Cuban coffee is king in Miami, and there’s no better way to enjoy some than by ordering it from a ventanita – that is, a cafe window. Ventanitas serve not only as convenient coffee and snack spots, but also as spaces to have conversations and catch up on news and life. Versailles is a popular spot both for locals and tourists alike, but drive around Miami enough, and you’ll likely encounter several of these on-the-go coffee spots.

Local Tip: Learn about the different types of coffee drinks ahead of time. Cafe con leche is akin to a sweet hot latte. A colada is more like several shots of sugary supercharged espresso served in a styrofoam cup, and it's meant to be shared. 

2. Make time for a beach day

You can’t visit Miami without dipping your toes in the warm Atlantic waters at least once. The best family-friendly beaches are Crandon Park and Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park – both great for barbecuing, biking and swimming. For more action and prime people-watching, stretch out on South Beach. Mid-beach all the way through Bal Harbour tends to have less public access, meaning slightly fewer crowds. If you hate tan lines and don’t blush easily, Haulover Beach (featuring the city’s only nude beach) might pique your interest.

3. Actually, hop on a boat while you’re at it

There’s no shortage of boats to ride on in Miami, but you’ll want to choose the right experience for you. Many boat tours can be found in and around Bayside Marketplace (a tourist-friendly shopping and dining hotspot in Downtown Miami). These tend to vary from a general 1-2 hour “party boat” experience that takes you into Biscayne Bay with music and drinks, to millionaire mansion sightseeing tours, to sightseeing speedboat tours for those who enjoy a faster pace. There are other options, like private boat tours of  Stiltsville and Biscayne National Park  (parts of Miami that are only accessible by boat), as well as  small sailing experiences  out of Coconut Grove.

Local Tip: Already have experience driving a boat? You can easily rent one by the hour for a more intimate boating experience. 

4. Immerse yourself in the Wynwood art scene

What was once a few blocks of struggling art galleries has become a gentrified mass of high rises, restaurants, bars, and well, a lot more art. You can still visit some of the long-standing cultural institutions and galleries in the area like the Margulies Collection and the Wynwood Walls , as well as the Bakehouse Art Complex . More importantly, you can still find plenty of art by simply walking around the neighborhood – murals and graffiti have long been a staple here. And of course, don’t forget to bring your camera. The photo ops are endless.

Local Tip: If you can deal with the crowds and traffic, visit during the first week of December for Art Basel – an international art show with multiple satellite events, many of which take place in and around Wynwood. It’s a great time for seeing new art (and even getting to watch street artists at work).

5. Venture out to any of Miami’s other top-notch art museums

No matter where you are in the 305, you’re bound to find an art museum nearby. North Miami is home to the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA NoMi) , whose collection includes works by artists like Keith Haring and Anna Gaskell. The Bass Museum of Art in Miami Beach is one of the city’s oldest art museums, open since 1964. Both Florida International University and the University of Miami house their own art museums – the Frost in Sweetwater and the Lowe in Coral Gables, respectively. And if you want to see a truly impressive collection of Latin American art, make time for the Perez Art Museum .

Local Tip: Many museums feature free days at least once a month. Check their websites for info and plan accordingly.

6. Explore everything the Everglades has to offer

The largest subtropical wilderness in the country, the Everglades is a magical place home to gators, crocs, turtles, frogs, snakes and dozens upon dozens of species of birds from cranes, ducks and geese, to anhingas, spoonbills and more. There are several entrances to Everglades National Park that feature nature centers, hiking trails and ranger-led experiences. You can also venture to businesses like Everglades Safari Park (not affiliated with the national park), where you can ride in an airboat along the river of grass.

7. Cheer on the Heat, Fish, or Fins

The Magic City’s got plenty going on when it comes to sports, though locals generally root hardest for the Miami Heat , our three-time NBA champs. You can catch them live at the Kaseya Center in the heart of Downtown Miami. If baseball is more your speed, tickets to see the Marlins are generally affordable for games at LoanDepot Park in Little Havana (fun fact: it’s one of the few baseball stadiums in the country with a retractable roof). And finally, football fans can root for the Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium up in Miami Gardens (and if college football is more to your liking, the University of Miami’s Hurricanes play up there as well).

Local Tip : If tickets aren’t available, do as the locals do and head to the closest Flanigan’s to watch any and all games while enjoying beer and wings alongside other fans.

8. Walk (and dance) along Calle Ocho

The most famous street in Miami is undoubtedly Calle Ocho – in fact, it even has a festival named after it. While attending this annual block party is recommended at least once, you can still enjoy plenty of Cuban culture if you walk along the stretch of Calle Ocho that cuts through Little Havana. Pop into Los Pinarenos Fruteria for some guarapo (sugar cane juice), watch the elders playing dominos at Maximo Gomez Park , snap photos of the Cuban Walk of Fame and take in some more culture at the CubaOcho Museum . And of course, don’t forget to stop by Ball and Chain for drinks and dancing (they occasionally host salsa lessons as well)!

Miami is warm all year, but depending on your tolerance for heat and humidity there may be times of the year that are “too warm.” Even locals tend to avoid the beach during the summer when the water is warmer than the 92-degree air outside, and you need shoes to walk on the white-hot sand.

For prime weather, come between December-February. You’ll catch the occasional “cold snap,” which is what Miamians call days when the high is below 70. Miami’s culinary scene has become almost as big a draw as its beaches over the past decade, but visiting during “season” – generally the time between the winter holidays and Memorial Day – can mean waiting hours for a table or not getting a reservation at all. Without question, the best time to visit and sample Miami’s food scene is during Miami Spice Months , which run through August and September.

During this time, some of Miami’s top restaurants offer prix-fixe dinner menus for $43, and many run lunch specials for $29. While you won’t typically have your pick of the menu, you can try a different restaurant every night and not break the bank. Even if you opt for a restaurant not offering Miami Spice menus, reservations are far easier to come by during the summer months.

The Best Time to Visit Miami for Big-Time Events

If Miami does one thing exceedingly well, it’s events. And from mid-February to the end of March, you’ll find some of the world’s biggest events landing in Miami every weekend. Beginning in February with the Miami International Boat Show , the six-week period that follows brings the South Beach Wine and Food Festival , Spring Break, Miami Music Week , Ultra Music Festival , and the Miami Open tennis tournament. During this period clubs, restaurants, and event venues are packed, and most weekends bring celebrity-filled parties that are surprisingly easy to gain access to.

The Best Time to Visit Miami to Party

If you like to party, it’s tough to top March in Miami. The month begins with spring break, where colleges from all over America descend on South Florida for a week of unbridled revelry. It’s a different crowd than you’ll find the rest of the year, and the experience won’t be completely accurate to what Miami is usually like. But if you’re looking for pure, unadulterated good times, the first two weeks of March are ideal.

Spring break leads right into Miami Music Week when some of the biggest DJs and electronic music artists in the world come to town. You’ll find them playing in small venues like lounges and hotel patios, giving you a chance to see artists who usually fill stadiums up close and personal. Dance parties take over most of the city, culminating with the Ultra Music Festival on the final weekend of March. The month ends with over 100,000 people packing Bayfront Park for three days to see the biggest names in EDM. Then, the festival spills out into after-parties, where nearly every club in Miami is headlined by an A-list artist.

The Best Time to Visit Miami to Avoid Crowds

While it’s always advisable to check weather reports, and never travel to South Florida when a hurricane is approaching, the height of hurricane season in August and September also brings the fewest crowds. The downside is that the weather may not cooperate with your travel plan, and you may find rain soaking your entire trip. That said, if you’re coming to Miami to do things other than lay on the beach it can be a surprisingly pleasant time to visit, as waits at restaurants are minimal and traffic is blissfully light.

The Best Time to Visit Miami for Sports

While Miami’s marquee sporting events like the Miami Open and Formula 1 Grand Prix happen in the spring, sports fans will delight during October in the Magic City. Early in the month, you’ll find MLB’s Miami Marlins wrapping up their season at Loan Depot Park, and if you’re lucky, making a playoff run. The Miami Hurricanes football team is getting into the thick of ACC play, and every other year the arch-rival Florida State Seminoles come to town during the middle of the month.

The Miami Dolphins also have home games in October, and the NBA’s Miami Heat begin the preseason that month too. Not to be forgotten, the NHL’s Florida Panthers also take the ice in October, meaning you can literally see every pro sports team in South Florida, and throw in some thoroughbred racing at Gulfstream Park for good measure.

When is the best time to visit Miami, Florida? Whether your trip to Miami includes a stay at one of the area's exclusive hotels like the W Hotel or staying in one of the many luxurious  vacation rentals in Miami Beach ,  when  you visit impacts what you'll pay and can experience.

If you go in the high season, you'll get great weather in the summer, but you'll miss out on lower prices and smaller crowds (but still pleasant weather) in the winter months.

Of course, Florida is the Sunshine State. South Florida and Miami are noted for a moderate average temperature year-round, but significant events and seasonal adjustments will play a part. Let's take a closer look.

What To Expect in Miami

In January, Miami enjoys mild temperatures that are a far cry from the sweltering heat of summer.

The average high hovers around a comfortable 74 F (23 C), while the average low dips to about 60 F (16 C). It's weather that's perfect for a light jacket in the evening and beachwear during the day.

In addition to being the coldest month, January is one of Miami's drier months, with an average rainfall of about 1.7 inches.

If you're interested in visiting Miami at one of the most cost-effective times of the year and work or children in school aren't a burden, January is a good time. There are often great deals available.

While January in Miami can be cool, and the beach may not always be an option if a cold wave reaches South Florida, it's the off-season.

In the off-season, you can visit Miami's clubs, museums, zoos, and other attractions with fewer crowds and possibly better prices, including luxury accommodations.

There are also great events at this time of the year (especially in late January), such as the Miami Marathon and the famous Art Deco Weekend .

February continues the mild, pleasant weather trend, making Miami a winter escape haven.

Temperature-wise, you're looking at an average high of around 76 F (24 C) and an average low of about 62 F (17 C).

It's that sweet spot where you can still rock a swimsuit by day and maybe throw on a light sweater for those evening strolls along Ocean Drive.

As for rainfall, February is still in Miami's dry season, but it's a tad wetter than January. The average rainfall for the month is approximately 2.3 inches.

While you might see a few more clouds in the sky, rain showers are generally short-lived and often happen overnight or in the early morning.

May is when you'll start to feel that Miami heat. The average high temperature climbs to about 85 F (29 C) and lows around 72 F (22 C).

Famed for its white sand beaches, wonderful Art Deco architecture and world-class nightlife, Miami is one of the most popular cities to visit in the States. Each year, millions come to see its iconic sights or enjoy its sun, sea and sand.

Thanks to its tropical climate, the coastal city is very hot almost all year round. Most people therefore visit in the warm winter months when its heat and humidity are not so oppressive. This peak period is, of course, more expensive and all its hotels, beaches and attractions are pretty busy. Both spring break and its carnival celebrations also attract large crowds.

To help you plan your trip, let’s take a look at what the weather is like and what big events are going on each month in the Magic City. We’ll also cover when prices are cheaper or more expensive and what the crowds are like too.

What’s the Weather Like in Miami?

Set in the southeast of Florida, the large metropolis lies in between the steamy Everglades wetlands to the west and sparkling Biscayne Bay to the east. Its climate is influenced by its position above the Tropic of Cancer and the nearby Gulf Stream that runs offshore.

Summers are very hot and humid with it also raining an incredible amount from June up to October. This is also the hurricane season when average temperatures are about 84 to 88°F (29 to 31°C). The sweltering heat and constant mugginess make it quite an unpleasant time of year to visit.

In contrast, the winter months are thankfully cooler with it also raining a lot less. Still sunny and warm, its days are best for ambling along Ocean Drive, seeing its Art Deco buildings or sunning yourself on the city’s spectacular beaches.

Best months to visit Miami

As its summers are very hot and humid, and see almost daily thunderstorms tip down, winter is by far the most popular time of year to visit. From December through February, conditions are perfect for lounging on its beautiful beaches or hitting up its pounding nightclubs. Prices are highest though but many of the city’s top events take place then too.

March to May is another lovely period to visit as the snowbirds escaping the colder climes in Canada, the US and Europe have headed home. Prices are lower and there are fewer crowds except for during spring break when wild parties break out everywhere. It’s also well worth taking day trips to places like the Everglades or Orlando’s theme parks while they’re quieter.

Miami in January

As it is one of the best months to visit Miami, January is generally quite busy with both hotel and airfare prices higher than in the summer. While the days are a bit shorter, temperatures of around 75°F (24°C) couldn’t be better for sightseeing or sunbathing. Loads of fun events take place with seasonal sites like Christmas Wonderland and Santa’s Enchanted Forest also staying open the first week.

After that, there is the colourful and quirky King Mango Strut Parade to take part in with the Miami Marathon also making its way through the city’s streets in January. Other than seeing all the latest looks modeled at Fashion Week, you can admire the attractive, historic houses and hotels in South Beach during its Art Deco Weekend. The South Florida Fair in West Palm Beach also has tons of exhilarating rides and exquisite food to try out.

Miami in February

Almost identical weatherwise, February is still the peak season when prices are highest and huge crowds throng about its beaches and boardwalks. Things do tend to quieten down a bit though midway through the month as many snowbirds head back up north. Its warm, sunny days are great for topping up your tan or taking tours about the Everglades while it’s dry.

Although Ocean Drive and its Art Deco District are busier, there are lots of other cool things going on too. On President’s Day weekend, for instance, Coconut Grove hosts its annual Arts Festival while knights, minstrels and magicians flock to the Florida Renaissance Festival.

The South Beach Wine & Food Festival also organizes over a hundred culinary events, catering to foodies. To top it all off, the elegant old Royal Palm Hotel puts on the week-long Winter Party Festival for the LGBTQ community.

Miami in March

Before the scorching heat and stifling humidity of summer set in, springs in Miami are pretty much the perfect season to explore the city. With the weather warming up a bit and its days now lasting longer, you can stroll about Little Havana or hang out at the picturesque Crandon Park. Prices for hotels and flights remain expensive though, especially during spring break when thousands head to Miami Beach to sunbathe, party and enjoy its watersports.

While March is always a busy month, there’s an infectious energy about Miami with exciting events taking place everywhere. The nation’s largest Latin music festival, Calle Ocho, is held while the Miami Open Tennis Tournament instead attracts sports fans.

Its Miami Music Week and Ultra Music Festival also have great concerts and DJ sets to listen to. If the crowds get too much, you can kayak or snorkel about Biscayne National Park’s mangroves and reefs.

Miami in April

Once spring break is over and the college students have headed home, April is much quieter and cheaper in Miami. Average temperatures now hit 80°F (27°C) with there being about 10 hours of sunshine each day. Before the rains pick up in May, it’s a fabulous month to explore the Everglades or sunbathe, swim and enjoy watersports along the coast.

Aside from sauntering about the Art Deco District or along the Miami Beach Boardwalk, you can take in the exotic plants and orchids at the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. Many also visit Orlando’s famous amusement parks which are a bit less crowded, except for around the Easter holidays.

You can also catch movie screenings at the Miami Film Festival or take part in parades and parties for Pride.

Miami in May

The beginning of May is also a good time to visit weatherwise before the heat and humidity steadily increase later in the month. While its waters also warm up – making for some lovely swimming and scuba diving – it does rain rather a lot for 11 days on average. Both airfares and accommodation are more affordable now as tourist numbers start to dwindle.

As the hot weather is ideal for soaking up some sun, you can always visit Fort Lauderdale’s beaches or see its thrilling Air Show when stunt pilots shoot overhead. Miami Beach also puts on a similar spectacle later in May while military displays, concerts and parties are held for Memorial Day weekend too.

Before hurricane season hits, this is the last month you can hop on an unforgettable cruise around the Caribbean.

Miami in June

June sees the heavens open up above Miami and fierce thunderstorms drench the city. Aside from being very wet and rainy for about 16 days on average, its extreme heat and humidity make sightseeing unpleasant. As hurricanes can also hit, very few holidaymakers arrive with hotels and flights being cheaper as a result.

While its rain showers are frequent and heavy, the skies usually clear up quickly, giving way to resplendent sunshine. If you do visit, you’ll find the beaches and parks almost empty with many tourists making the most of the air-conditioning in its museums and malls. There are also lots of superb screenings to catch at the American Black Film Festival.

Miami in July

As people have summer holidays, July is a bit busier despite it being the hurricane season. Average temperatures hit 88°F (31°C), with its sweat-inducing humidity also sticking around until October. On the plus side, it rains a lot less with most of its downpours occurring in the afternoon.

As such, you can have some wonderful beach days, sunbathing and swimming or even scuba diving and dolphin watching at Key West and Biscayne National Park.

During the low season, prices for hotels are very reasonable though airfares are often more expensive. If you’re not topping up your tan, you’ll want to cool off somewhere with aircon as sightseeing is unenjoyable in the heat.

Some amazing live music and epic fireworks displays are also held for the 4th of July. Otherwise celebs and cosplayers, anime lovers and gamers all descend upon the Miami Beach Convention Center for the Florida Supercon.

Miami in August

August also sees more people visit Miami though the weather is almost exactly the same as July but even rainier. With torrential downpours soaking the city for 18 days on average, it’s best to take an umbrella with you wherever you go.

From the middle of the month onwards, hurricanes often hit the coast, disrupting travel plans and causing beaches to close.

Despite this and the swarms of mosquitoes that buzz around, more tourists do arrive due to the summer holidays. Numbers are still low though so you’ll easily be able to find space on its beaches when it’s not raining.

Most people instead spend time at places like Dolphin Mall or splashing around in the Venetian Pool. To entice diners, lots of establishments offer deals as part of its Miami Spice Restaurant Months initiative.

Miami in September

With all the summer crowds now gone and the terrible weather persisting, September is one of the quietest months in town. After Labor Day weekend parties, concerts and parades take place, both hotel prices and airfares are very affordable. Although still very rainy, most of its downpours occur in the evening or early morning if you want to hit up the beach in the meantime.

If you can stand the sweltering heat and humidity, you can enjoy sunbathing, swimming and watersports or go sightseeing when it’s not raining. Popular areas like Ocean Drive and Little Havana will be a lot less busy if you want to get a more local feel for the city.

Besides trying top restaurants for Miami Spice, you can watch the Miami Dolphins kick off their NFL season at the Hard Rock Stadium.

Miami in October

Although the weather is still very wet, the number of tourists visiting Miami finally increases in October as the humidity is much more manageable. Temperatures of 84°F (29°C) are still a bit hot for sightseeing though with it also raining rather a lot for 14 days on average.

Once the skies clear, you can lounge about at Lummus Park Beach and swim in its warm waters. As it is still the low season and hurricanes can hit, prices are very reasonable with its tourist sights, hotels and beaches all not too crowded. Other than seeing the Land Crabs and White Pelicans that migrate to South Florida, you can sample sumptuous beers at Grovetoberfest.

Its colourful carnival is also loads of fun to take part in as are its spooky Halloween parties.

Miami in November

As it rains a lot less and the heat and humidity are a bit lower, November is a lovely month to visit Miami. While there are now ‘just’ 7 hours of sunshine and 11 of daylight per day, you should have ample time to see its attractions or sunbathe and swim in the sea. Any showers are usually light, short and in the evening with the hurricane season now having passed.

With conditions being drier, you can explore the enormous Everglades or enjoy kiteboarding and windsurfing along the coast. It’s not a bad time to visit Orlando’s theme parks or places like Key West and Fort Lauderdale before they get crowded. Holiday lights and decorations are strung up with parades and parties also held for Thanksgiving.

Miami in December

December is the absolute peak season in Miami when absolutely everywhere is packed and hotel prices are at their highest. Popular spots such as Ocean Drive, its Art Deco District and Little Havana are all heaving.

As temperatures average 75°F (24°C) and the weather is dry, the sunny days couldn’t be better for enjoying its beaches and boardwalks. Many snowbirds arrive for winter with plenty of tourists also coming to spend Christmas in the warmth.

Besides trying out some exciting watersports and hitting up its trendy nightclubs, there are tons of events to attend too. Aside from Art Basel’s interesting exhibitions, there are cheery Christmas markets to stroll around while the Winterfest Boat Parade takes place offshore.

At the end of the month, live music and fireworks displays are held at Bayfront Park for New Year’s Eve with plenty of other parties popping up all around town.

The best times to visit Miami

From its beautiful beaches to its exciting nightlife, Miami is a glitzy and gleaming playground for beachgoers and partiers alike — and it also packs a serious cultural punch you shouldn't miss. Here are the best times to visit Magic City.

When is the weather best in Miami?

Florida can be extremely warm and humid in summer. To avoid the steam bath every time you venture outside, visit Miami from November to April. Temperatures are moderate (highs around 80 degrees and lows around 60 degrees) and rain is minimal. The rains pick up from May to November and a visit between June and November will put you solidly in the middle of hurricane season.

Though the weather is preferential, winter is also Miami's busy season. To avoid the crush of visitors, go during the shoulder season, from February to April. With the exception of spring break when the city fills with partygoers, you'll find the lowest prices and fewer visitors during shoulder season. Of course, if you can stand the heat and humidity (and the chance of rain), there are even fewer visitors in summer.

When are there festivals and events in Miami?

Miami is a vibrant city and there are always things going on, though you'll find some of the largest events during the cooler months.

The massive Ultra Music Festival is held annually in March and attracts thousands of attendees and big-name performers. If electronic dance music isn't your style, the Winter Party (also in March) is a weeklong extravaganza that raises funds for the LGBTQ+ community.

In the same vein, Miami Beach Pride takes place during April. This two-day extravaganza has become one of the largest Pride events in the country. And then there's Miami Fashion Week from the end of May and into June.

Each summer, you'll find Florida Supercon , which draws comic book fans from across the state. And true to Miami's multicultural population, the Miami Salsa Congress hosts a full five days of hip-swinging moves in the middle of July.

For food lovers, fall brings Miami Spice, the annual prix-fixe menu bonanza at more than 200 local restaurants. Prices are a reasonable $28 for lunch and either $45 or $60 for dinner. In 2023, the festival runs from Aug. 1 until the end of September. For an added reason to visit, Florida's largest beer festival, Grovetoberfest , is held in October with more than 400 craft brews on tap.

Winter is Miami's high season and there's almost too much to see and do. Usually held mid-January, Art Deco Weekend celebrates Miami's famous architecture. In 2023, the Miami International Boat Show, one of the world's largest boating festivals, will be held Feb. 15-19.

Also in winter is the South Beach Wine & Food Festival, one of the largest food festivals in Miami. If you're more into running than eating, the Miami Marathon winds through the city in late January.

When is the cheapest time to fly to Miami?

Miami International Airport (MIA) is a large hub with many direct flights at reasonable rates. Award availability is common with any alliance, but if you're looking for the cheapest airfare, get tickets for February-March or June-September. You can sometimes find flight deals for under $100 round-trip during these shoulder season months and into the winter.

When are hotels affordable in Miami?

Best Times To Visit Miami Beach

The best time to visit Miami Beach is between March and May when the sun shines with temperatures in the high 70s and low 80s during the day. Aside from the gorgeous weather, a spring visit allows you to sidestep the peak winter rates. This part of Florida enjoys a subtropical climate, meaning it's usually warm year-round and a bit rainy. Pack an umbrella if you visit in summer or fall; at the very least, you can expect some afternoon showers that clear up quickly. In the worst-case scenario, you could experience torrential downpours since Atlantic hurricane season runs from June to November. If you're trying to keep your bank account in check, hotel rates and flight fares tend to decrease in the summer as the temperature and precipitation increase.

The Retrofit

Miami Spice

Daytime high temperatures will be mostly 90-91 F (32-33 C) early in the month, cooling slightly to 87-89 F (about 31 C) near the end of the month. 

On average, 12-15 days will record high temperatures at or above 90 F (32 C).  The record high temperature in Miami during September is 97 F (36.1 C).

Late night and early morning low temperatures tend to be near 76-77 F (24-25 C) with a few of the cooler mornings dipping down near 73 F (23 C), especially near the end of the month. 

The record low temperature in Miami during September is 68 F (20 C).

On average, you can expect 2 sunny days this month, 15 partly sunny and 12 cloudy days. Measurable rain falls on about 19 days with 6 of these recording 0.5 inches (12.7 mm) or more.

The number of daylight hours available this month falls from 12.6 hours on the 1st to 11.9 hours on the 30th.  

Wind speeds will mostly be light to gentle at 4-12 mph (6-19 kph) but can briefly be moderate at 13-18 mph (20-28 kph). 

Tropical Cyclones

September is the peak of the North Atlantic hurricane season and there is a 40% chance for a named tropical cyclone passing near the east coast of Florida or the Bahamas this month.

The risk for experiencing tropical storm strength winds in Miami during the entire hurricane season is about once every 3 years, and hurricane force winds, once every 8-10 years.

If you are headed to the beaches expect warm ocean temperatures around 84-85F (about 29 C).

What to Wear in Miami during September?

The weather is hot and humid with frequent showers so dress light and airy.

Bring your beach wear including a pair of casual flip flops, sunglasses, sunscreen and a good pair of walking shoes as well as an umbrella for those showers.

Things to Do in Miami in September

Provided that there aren't any tropical cyclones happening this month, it might still be a good time to consider a pay-what-you-wish Miami walking tour . If it is a bit windy, you might want to consider an indoor activity instead.

If you're looking for another alternative, consider going to a concert instead. Here are some of the best musical performers scheduled to visit Miami in September:

Pope Francis May Visit United States in September After UN Invitation

The possible trip to the United States could change the Pope’s already-busy September travel schedule.

ROME — Pope Francis is reportedly considering returning to the United States in September to speak before the United Nations General Assembly.

The news was initially reported by the French Catholic newspaper La Croix and has not yet been officially confirmed by the Vatican. A source from the Vatican Secretariat of State, meanwhile, told CNA this week that “a formal invitation has arrived from Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and Pope Francis seems inclined to respond positively.”

If the New York trip occurs, the pope would visit the United Nations during its “Summit of the Future,” which the international body will convene from Sept. 22 to 23.

The possible trip to the United States could change the Pope’s already-busy September travel schedule. The Holy See Press Office has announced that Pope Francis will be in Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste, and Singapore from Sept. 2-13.

Pope Francis is also expected at the end of September in Belgium, where he is scheduled to celebrate the 600th anniversary of the University of Louvain, which has been divided into two different linguistic entities since the 1960s. The Holy Father told Mexican television network Televisa last December that he intended to travel to Belgium in 2024.

According to a source familiar with the planning of papal trips, Pope Francis' trip to Louvain could be postponed to 2025. The postponement of the journey would leave room at the end of September for the visit to the United Nations.

During his planned stay in Belgium, Pope Francis will also celebrate Mass at the national shrine of Koelkenberg. There are also rumors that the pontiff will stop in Luxembourg, one of the small nations favored by the pope for trips to Europe. Luxembourg officials have denied the visit, but the Vatican Secretariat of State has indicated the trip is possible

The September summit's objective is to strengthen the structures of the United Nations and global “governance” to face more fully the “new and old challenges” of the coming years, the UN has said. 

The meeting will lead a “pact for the future” to advance rapidly toward realizing the UN’s “Sustainable Development Goals.”

In a meeting with students in April, Pope Francis described the summit as “an important event,” with the Holy Father urging students to help ensure the plan “becomes concrete and is implemented through processes and actions for change.”

Pope Francis, who is 87, has undergone two surgeries in the last four years and is under regular medical screening. A planned trip to Abu Dhabi to participate in the COP28 meeting was canceled last December due to health reasons. 

The Pope was last in the United States in 2015, during which he also appeared before the United Nations.

Do's and Dont's: How Miami Dolphins can ace, and not mess up, 2024 NFL Draft

MIAMI GARDENS - It would be helpful if the Dolphins had a third-round pick in the NFL Draft , which begins today and goes through Saturday in Detroit.

We won't mention tampering , Tom Brady and Sean Payton on a day like today.

Oops. Well, look, it's not Chris Grier's fault he doesn't have that valuable pick, stripped by the NFL, just like a first-rounder in last year's draft.

More importantly, yes, it does increase the pressure on Grier to get most - look, nobody gets them all right - of these six picks right.

At least Grier has a first rounder.

In each of the previous two seasons, there was no first rounder.

Yes, there is Tyreek Hill and Bradley Chubb to show.

And Grier has been pretty darned good in the first round since taking control in 2016 and full and total control of the draft room in 2019.

Oh, we know there's a decent chance Miami's draft, when assessed in two or three years, will be viewed as somewhere in between a home run and a single. Most of them are doubles.

But if Grier can do better than that, it will go a long way toward helping Miami break a quarter-century drought with zero playoff victories. Grier, with the organization since 2000, desperately wants that, too.

We're not saying we have all the answers. We're not saying we can predict the future.

But we sure have opinions on how we'd like to see this thing go.

And so without further ado, let's go through the do's and dont's of how Miami - and Grier - can ace or mess up this 2024 NFL Draft, which begins tonight:

Do trade back if one of the three or four players you really covet are snagged ahead of No. 21.

Don't trade back if one of those players is there.

Do draft a player who can contribute to the playoff push in 2024.

Don't draft a "project" or "developmental talent" with "upside" and "ceiling."

Do draft Washington guard/tackle Troy Fautanu if he's somehow available. Same goes for left tackle Olu  Fashanu of Penn State. And UCLA edge rusher Laiatu Latu .

Don't feel pressure to select a second-tier edge rusher simply because of injuries at the position.

Do select defensive tackle Byron Murphy II if he believe he's another Christian Wilkins.

Don't select a defensive tackle if you aren't sure he's an impact pass rusher.

Do consider WR Brian Thomas, Jr. , or Xavier Worthy if all the aforementioned players are gone and you believe he is needed to replace Tyreek Hill in the not-distant future.

Don't take a quarterback , running back, kicker, snapper or punter in the first round. Hah. OK, so, in all seriousness, don't take a cornerback or safety.

Do prioritize guard, edge rusher and tackle. Ideally, there is a guard, tackle, guard/tackle, edge rusher or defensive tackle selected in Round 1 and then one of those positions or receiver in Round 2.

Do consider a safety, cornerback, defensive tackle and edge rusher in Rounds 5 and 6.

Don't force a quarterback pick you don't truly like in Rounds 5-7.

Do trust your eyes. And your gut.

Don't put too much weight into testing, metrics or interviews.

Do ace this. Miami needs a starter in Round 1 and immediate contributor in Round 2.

Don't mess it up. No busts. Safer the better in Rounds 1 and 2.

Pitt Scheduling Visit For Miami Transfer DE

The Pitt Panthters reached out to a top Miami Transfer DE and are scheduling a visit with him.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers have worked to address their lack of defensive ends following the end of spring practices, as they reached out to a valued transfer recently.

Miami transfer edge rusher Jayden Wayne spoke to Steve Wiltfong of On3 and said that Pitt, along with ACC foes Florida State, Cal, Louisville and Virginia Tech, Big Ten schools in Michigan State Nebraska, Oregon, UCLA, USC, Washington and Wisconsin, SEC schools in Mississippi State, Missouri and Ole Miss, plus James Madison and Kansas contacted him following his entry into the portal this week.

Pitt, along with Cal, Kansas UCLA and Washington, are all trying to bring him in for a visit as well.

Wayne came out of high school as one of the best players in the country. Playing for powerhouse IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., he made 44 tackles and nine sacks in his senior season, but also excelled at wide receiver, making 18 catches for 269 yards and five touchdowns.

He was a four-star consensus recruit, with 247Sports ranking him No. 82 in the nation, No. 13 edge rusher and No. 21 in Florida in the Class of 2023, respectively.

Standing at 6-foot-6 and 245 pounds, Wayne is a towering figure that any team would want on their defensive line.

He played in eight games as a true freshman last season, making 13 tackles (four solo), 0.5 tackles for loss and 0.5 sacks.

Wayne hails from Tacoma, Wash., which is why so many west coast teams are coming in for his services.

Pitt has contacted and offered a few defensive ends since the transfer portal opened earlier last week. This includes Arkansas State's Keyron Crawford, who transferred to Auburn , Youngstown State's Deamontae Diggs and Illinois' Anthony Johnson .

The Panthers lost almost all of their defensive line production from last season due to graduation and transfers. Defensive tackles in David Green, Tyler Bentley and Devin Danielson graduated, while both defensive tackle Deandre Jules and defensive end Samuel Okunlola transferred to South Carolina and Colorado, respectively, after the season. 

The defensive line also lost two defensive ends following spring practices to the portal, in starter Dayon Hayes, who committted to Colorado, and redshirt freshman Antonio Camon. 

Sixth year Bam Brima, who has only started three games, is the most experienced defensive lineman, as fellow sixth year defensive end Nate Temple will sit this year due to injury. Brima is likely to play defensive tackle this season, instead of defensive end as he has done previously.

The defensive ends that Pitt has include Kansas State transfer/fifth year Nate Matlack, redshirt sophomore Jimmy Scott, redshirt freshmen Maverick Gracio and Clemson transfer David Ojiegbe, as well as freshmen Zachary Crothers and Sincere Edwards.
