The Chrysler Voyager's stow 'n go seating

The term Stow 'n Go is the name given for a folding seat system that lets drivers fold the entire second and third rows of their minivans into the floor to allow for more space for bulky items. You can either fold one row or both rows into the cabin floor.

The seating system is highly sought after for minivan consumers, as it lets you use the entire cargo area for virtually anything, including transporting your pets, furniture, or other cargo. As an added advantage, the Voyager’s Stow 'n Go seating lets drivers utilize large storage compartments beneath when the seating is upright.

Being able to fold the entire second or third rows of your minivan into the floor is so much easier than removing the seats manually and putting them in your house. To use the Stow 'n Go seats in the Chrysler Voyager , all you have to do is give a moderate tug on the pull handle on the rear of the seat. The seat will come loose from the rear latches and fold forward onto the floor, creating additional cargo room.

If you’re planning on hauling large, bulky items in your minivan, then Stow 'n Go seats are absolutely a must. The Stow 'n Go can also be handy if you plan on camping in the minivan. Chrysler Voyager Cargo Space

Since the Chrysler Voyager’s Stow 'n Go seats remain inside the minivan, you will not have difficulty keeping your seats when they are not in use. With foldable seats, you can also easily increase the legroom for third-row passengers. In addition to the Stow 'n Go seats, the Voyager provides up to 32.3 cubic feet of space behind its third row of seats. The third row also slides flat and opens up to 87.5 cubic feet of space.

The Voyager also offers up to 140.5 cubic feet of total interior cargo space when the second and third rows of seats are folded down. There’s also a standard floor console, trays, cubbies, a locking glove box, and slide-out bins for keeping small items such as tablets, mobile phones, and other gadgets.

Unlike the Voyager’s foldable seats, the Toyota Sienna and Kia Sedona require the second-row seating to be removed to get maximum cargo space. Kia’s slide-n-stow second-row seating opens up to up to 142 cubic feet of cargo space, whereas the Toyota’s split-n-stow third-row seat folds into the floor to give up to 150 cubic feet of cargo space.

Does Voyager have second-row stow 'n go?

Yes, the LXI fleet trims of the Voyager are equipped with Stow 'n Go second-row seating, whereas is third-row stow-n-go is standard on all models. The Voyager’s standard third-row Stow 'n Go configuration has two bench seats in the second row and available two second-row bucket seats. Thus, there’s plenty of space for adults to stretch out in the first row, but the second and third rows aren't as spacious as the Pacifica.

You can stow the second row's seat, folding it into a space on the floor behind the first row of seats. Although you’ll find plenty of room for storing groceries or bags, don’t over-stuff them, as that may impact your ability to close the hatch.

Another great feature is that you can also fold down one of the second-row seats if you’re carrying a smaller load, which will provide a lot more room for storing items.

Beneath that are storage bins with lids and magazine rack, along with cup holders. There’s also an available illuminated console bin in between the front seats.

How do you fold the seats in a Chrysler Voyager?

To fold the seats in a Chrysler Voyager, first, move the front seat forward. While the second-row armrests are folded up, open the floor panel and lean it against the front seat.

Now, grab the Stow 'n Go strap on the bottom of the second-row seat and then fold it forward. Then, carefully guide the seat down into the storage bin and tuck the strap. Finally, push the floor panel back down and readjust the front seat when necessary. 

When using the second row, pull up the handle at the lower side of each Stow 'n Go seat and then push or lift it forward.

Do all Chrysler minivans have stow 'n go seating?

More than 20 years ago, Chrysler Corporation changed the way people think about transportation with the invention of the minivan. More than 10 million sales later, Chrysler Group has raised the bar again with the innovative Stow 'n Go™ seating and storage system, unique to Chrysler Group minivans and standard fit for the Chrysler Grand Voyager.

Chrysler Grand Voyager has always been known for comfort and spaciousness with the largest interior volume amongst its competitors. The Stow 'n Go system adds to those credentials with creative seating and storage possibilities along with extremely comfortable seats.

“Stow 'n Go represents yet another leap ahead in the minivan market segment to keep the Chrysler Group on top of the heap,” said Thomas Hausch, Executive Director – International Sales and Marketing, Chrysler Group. “Stow 'n Go offers unmatched convenience, versatility and storage, and it is just one of many added features and safety enhancements to our newest Chrysler minivans.”

Chrysler Group has raised the bar for innovations with the newest Chrysler Grand Voyager minivan. The “minivan-first” Stow 'n Go seating and storage system not only provides the only fold-in-the-floor second- and third-row seats, but also gives an available 340 litres (12 cu. ft.) of storage area when the seats are in their upright position. The seating configuration goes from seven seats to two in less than 30 seconds, with a nearly effortless one-hand operation.

For the first time in a minivan, Chrysler Group engineers used Super High Density (SHD) foam cushion seating that was originally developed by NASA to improve the seat comfort for astronauts. This foam cushion comfort technology also is used in high-end home and office furniture. The use of SHD was key to designing seats that could be folded as needed, but without losing comfort.

In order to fit the seating and storage system into the Chrysler Group’s newest minivans, the development team had to not only invent folding seats, but also create an entirely new underbody and engineer a load floor for the second-row seats. They also needed to design a new fuel tank, exhaust system, parking brake cables and rear climate control lines, and modify the rear suspension.

Voluminous Storage and a Variety of Seating Configurations Unlike competitor vehicles, the Chrysler Grand Voyager’s second- and third-row seats can be folded into, not onto, the floor with a virtually effortless one-hand operation, without the need for the head restraints to be removed.

With both the second- and third-row seats folded, Chrysler Grand Voyager has a completely flat load floor and a maximum cargo volume of 4,550 litres (160.7 cu. ft.).

Two spacious, covered storage bins are available when the second-row Stow 'n Go seats are left upright. Around 170 litres (6 cu. ft.) of covered storage space is available in the second row, split between the two bins. When combined with the long single storage bin behind the third-row seats, the system provides a total of 340 litres (12 cu. ft.) of available storage space.

Many different seating configurations are possible in the Chrysler Grand Voyager with Stow 'n Go. In fact, the total variety of configurations number more than 250.

A few of the most popular include: — Tailgate: The 60/40 third-row split bench seats flip completely rearward for comfortable tailgate seating when the vehicle is parked. The seats can be flipped individually or together. Chrysler Group minivans are also the only ones in the industry to offer the ability to recline the seatbacks prior to setting in the tailgate configuration.

— Limousine: The second-row seats fold into the floor for plenty of third-row legroom.

— Family: All seats when upright can seat seven people, and at the same time open up available storage capacity in the three bins in the floor.

— Cargo/Storage: Both the second- and third-row seats fold into the floor, for a minivan-first flat cargo area and more than 4.5 cubic metres of available storage space. Additional Stow 'n Go seating and storage features, many of which are minivan-firsts, include:

• Storage bin bags: Cargo net bags are standard and adjust to fit into each storage bin, allowing for quick, easy removal of stored items.
• Second-row seat fore/aft adjusters and reclining seat backs: For additional comfort, second-row seats move forward and back and offer 100 mm (3.94 in.) of seat travel. Second-row seat backs recline up to 40 degrees, offering 13 different positions.
• Outboard “break-away” cup holders: If a second-row seat is folded into the floor while the outboard cup holder is left deployed, a mechanism releases the cup holder and returns it to the closed position.
• Third-row easy entry system: With the pull of a single strap, the second-row seat tumbles out of the way and allows for easy entry into the third row.
• Split-bench tailgate seating: The third-row 60/40 split bench may be flipped completely rearward — individually or in its entirety — for convenient,comfortable tailgate seating complete with a weather shelter provided by the liftgate.
• Reclining third-row seats: Third-row seat backs recline up to 39 degrees, offering 12 different positions.

Minivans Offer a Host of Other Amenities The Chrysler brand continues to offer a broad range of customer choices in the minivan market, including standard- and extended-wheelbase models, multiple powertrain choices, premium amenities and even more minivan-first features such as Stow 'n Go. Chrysler minivans’ newest engine and transmission — along with a quiet and richly appointed interior, a fresh exterior design and substantial levels of driver and passenger safety — reinforce Voyager and Grand Voyager’s long-held position as the aspirational choice for minivan customers around the world.

The list of major features on the Chrysler Voyager and Grand Voyager for markets outside of North America includes:

— 2.8 CRD Automatic: A 2.8-litre common-rail turbo diesel (CRD) engine with best-in-class torque and outstanding fuel economy, paired with an automatic transmission for maximum convenience.

— Three-row supplemental side curtain air bags: Three-row, A- to D-pillar side curtain air bags provide full-length coverage for all three rows of seats. The side curtain air bags protect all outboard passengers. Both sides have sensors, which trigger the air bag on the side where impact occurs.

— Advanced multi-stage front air bags: Provide enhanced protection for occupants at various deployment levels, based on the severity of the impact.

— BeltAlert™: If a vehicle is driven without the driver being properly belted, the Chrysler Group’s enhanced seat belt reminder system will periodically activate a chime and illuminate a light in the instrument cluster to remind the driver to buckle up.

— Child seat anchor system (ISOFIX/LATCH): Helps ease the installation of compatible aftermarket child seats. Feature is standard fit in second-row seats for all models and is also standard in the centre position of the third-row seat in the Chrysler Grand Voyager.

— Rear park assist: Rear obstacle detection system with audible warning and rear overhead display (standard on Limited, optional on LX).

— Quiet interior: A package of recent improvements significantly reduces the level of NVH (noise, vibration and harshness). Speech intelligibility between the first and third rows, already an acknowledged strength of Voyager, was further enhanced.

— Fresh exterior: The front exterior incorporates the newest fascia, grille and quad headlamps. Bodyside mouldings and wheel designs further enhance the vehicle’s attractive looks.

— UConnect™ hands-free communication system: Available as a Mopar® aftermarket accessory, the system uses Bluetooth® technology to provide wireless communication between the driver’s compatible mobile phone and the vehicle’s on-board audio receiver. Advanced voice recognition technology controls the UConnect operation, and incoming calls are broadcast through the vehicle’s audio speakers.

— Navigation radio: Available as factory-installed or through Mopar, this system for European customers contains a navigation computer with 12.4 cm (4.9-in.) diagonal full-colour display, tuner and CD player all in one unit. Features include turn-by-turn route guidance navigation with voice instruction, seven different user languages, automatic re-route calculation and memory to store 50 custom user destinations.

— Overhead rail system with movable/removable bins: Includes overhead console with up to six movable and removable storage bins, rear temperature controls and an optional Mopar DVD screen (overhead rail system is standard on Limited, optional on LX).

Outside of North America, Chrysler offers two versions of its standard-wheelbase Voyager minivan, the SE and LX. Minivan Historical Highlights November 2, 1983: The former Chrysler Corporation manufactures the first minivan at Windsor Assembly Plant in Ontario, Canada. First models include Plymouth Voyager, Dodge Caravan and Dodge Caravan C/V.

1983-1984: Chrysler creates the people carrier market sector — known as minivans in the U.S. and MPVs or multi-purpose vehicles in Europe, upon export to Europe in 1987; 210,000 Voyagers and Caravans are sold in the first full year of sales. 2021 Chrysler Voyager Interior Review

The 2021 Chrysler Voyager has a mix of soft and hard plastics in its cabin. Cargo and passenger room are both good – but not great – for its class. The infotainment system is easy to use, but the Voyager lacks many of the tech and safety features found in rivals.

While the Voyager has plenty of storage space for your belongings, its cargo capacity of 32.3 cubic feet behind the third row, 87.5 cubic feet behind the second row, and 140.5 cubic feet with both rows folded down is smaller than what you’ll find in other minivans . There is no available power or hands-free liftgate, and while the third row can fold into the floor, you’ll have to physically remove the second-row seats to create maximum cargo space.

The Voyager seats up to seven people on cloth upholstery. The base L trim has second-row bench seats and third-row Stow ‘n Go seating. The LX trim adds an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and second-row bucket seats with underfloor storage bins. The LX can also be had with heated front seats and a leather-wrapped and heated steering wheel.

Head- and legroom are plentiful up front. They’re decent in the back two rows as well, although there are roomier vans in the class. For easier access to the third row, you can get the second row as a pair of bucket seats.

For installing child safety seats, there are four complete sets of LATCH connectors, two each for the second and third rows.

Interior Features

In addition to a rearview camera, the Voyager comes with Chrysler’s Uconnect 4 infotainment system. It features a 7-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a six-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, and a USB port. Satellite radio and a rear-seat overhead DVD player are available.

Using Uconnect is easy, and it has plenty of physical buttons and knobs, most of which are placed within easy reach for the driver. A rear-seat entertainment system is available, but other options are few and far between.

Available safety features include blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, and rear parking sensors.

Are Chrysler's Stow 'N Go seats really that great?

Seriously. i'd like to know what owners actually think, but i have doubts.

Are Chrysler's Stow 'N Go seats really such a great thing? Seriously, I'm asking. Do owners of the Chrysler Pacifica , as well as the Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country before it, actually use the innovative functionality that see the second-row captain's chairs fold away into the floor?

Frankly, I've always had my doubts. Car reviewers have long sung Stow 'N Go's praises, impressed with the ability to quickly turn the minivan from people carrier to work van. You'll frequently read mentions of needing to move sheets of plywood or treadmills or their kids' entire dorm room. Doing so is without question far easier when you can quickly make the second-row seats disappear as opposed to giving yourself a hernia lifting the things out and storing them in the garage – if removing them is even possible at all.

Except here's the thing. We car reviewers have borrowed that van for the purpose of moving whatever it is we needed to move. Maybe the van in question is a long-term test vehicle like our old Pacifica Hybrid , maybe it's the more typical weeklong test loan. Either way, this is not a typical use case. The van is being considered more for its cargo-carrying abilities than its people-carrying abilities, and I just don't think that's representative of the typical minivan owner.

Further to that point, the Stow 'N Go seats' flipping and folding capability might be great for versatility, but it makes for less comfortable seats. Although they have definitely improved in the 15-plus years since they were introduced, the Pacifica's Stow 'N Go seats remain thinner and flatter than the typical captain's chair. One can deduce that even Chrysler is aware of this as a downside. You see, the Pacifica Hybrid does not have Stow 'N Go seats since the giant underfloor hole they stow and go into is full of batteries . Instead, it has second-row captain's chairs  that don't seem to be discernibly different from those up front – they're far more comfortable. You can see the difference in the pictures above, with the gas-only Pacifica in red and the Hybrid in blue.

I'm therefore left with the question: Would you rather have a far more comfortable seat, or an improved ability to carry some plywood?

Considering the second-row designs of rival vans, it would seem that market research for Honda , Toyota and Kia isn't skewing in the direction of plywood. Much like the rest of the automotive industry, the minivan segment is rife for copy-catting. From driver-side sliding doors to in-car vacuums , unique features don't remain unique for very long. To wit, while every single minivan effectively copied the second-generation Honda Odyssey's fold-away third-row seat, no other car company has seen enough value in Stow 'N Go to rip it off. Instead, Honda has its second-row Magic Seat , while Kia and Toyota see value in far-sliding second-row seats. All are a pain in the butt to haul out of the van, if they can be removed at all.

In other words, I see a lot of evidence that points toward Stow 'N Go not being such a great feature. They’re still an impressive feat of engineering and interior packaging, and there are undoubtedly owners who routinely use their unique functionality. I'm not asking, "Does anyone use these things?" Rather, do enough owners use that unique functionality to warrant the tradeoff in comfort, and would another design benefit more people?

As such, it’s no surprise that they chose to keep this ingenius system exclusive to their own brands like the Dodge Caravan, Pacifica and Grand Voyager.

Even top sellers like the Toyota Sienna don’t get access to these amazing easy rear row stow features!

However, given space limitations, you won’t find this available in their vehicles with smaller interiors such as the Jeep Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, Wranger, or Ram models.

Top 8 Minivans with Stow and Go Seats 

There are a few minivan models that come with the patented Stow n Go seating technology, which includes Chrysler Pacifica , Town & Country, Voyager, and the Dodge Caravan . Other options on our list have similar designs but not the same patent. Unlike popularly thought, the Honda Odyssey does not have this feature.

Let’s take a closer look. 

1. Chrysler Pacifica

At the top of our list is the Chrysler Pacifica , which is designed with Stow n Go seats for the second and third rows . The car offers 32.3 cubic feet of storage, but once you fold the third row, you get 87.5 cubic feet. If you fold the second row, too, you get a maximum capacity of 140.5 cubic feet. This will fit up to 53 carry-on suitcases.

If you want to fold the third-row flat, there is a button in the trunk that you can press. The seats will automatically fold down and stow away . There is a slightly different process for the second row. Here, you will press a button to shift the front seats forward so that it stays out of your way. Then, raise the armrests of the second seat. 

The model also comes with some infotainment features like a 10.1-inch touchscreen and climate-control vents . It has Amazon Alexa integration, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a reconfigurable home screen. You can also get the Chrysler Pacifica hybrid . 

2. Chrysler Voyager 

Next on our list is Chrysler Voyager , which is able to seat seven passengers, and comes with Stow n Go technology . In the standard Voyager trim, you can only fold the third row of seats by simply clicking a button. While the normal trunk space is 32.3 cubic feet , you get more than double with the third row folded. 

If you want to be able to fold both the second and the third row, you will have to purchase the LX trim. This gives you as much trunk space as possible, up to 140.5 cubic feet. It’s pretty easy to fold down all the seats or just one with the Stow n Go technology. Some of the trims and older models of the Voyager don’t have this ease, so you have to manually fold the seats.

To fold the seats manually, you can pull the fabric lever at the top to fold the headrest . Then, fold the second lever at the bottom of the back of the seat. This will collapse the seat completely and fold it down. With the Stow n Go system, you can fold as many seats as you want and create enough space for your cargo and passengers.

As for infotainment, you get a 10.1-inch infotainment display and another 3.5-inch digital display in the gauge cluster. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also available. 

3. Toyota Sienna 

Next on our list is the Toyota Sienna , which is a minivan that can seat up to eight passengers and comes with Split & Stow technology on some of its trims to fold your seats away. You can completely fold the third row and push the second-row seats forward to create enough space. The car offers 33.5 cubic feet of cargo space but 101 cubic feet with the seat folded up. 

The third row has a 60/40 bench, and you can fold it down by simply pulling the lever on the back seat. Just like with Stow n Go technology , you can pull the lever again, and the seats will be back in the upright position. For the second-row seats, they won’t fold flat. Instead, they are fitted on sliding rails. This allows you to push them forward for more space. 

The Sienna is designed with a 9.0-inch touchscreen display above the climate controls, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa , and Android Auto as standard, and a 6-speaker set up in the base models. The higher you go, you get a 12-speaker stereo system and an 11.6-inch display which is optional. 

4. Ford Transit Connect 

You should also consider the Ford Connect if you want a minivan with stow-and-go seats. Ford Transit is a popularly known van, and with Connect, you can fold the second and third-row seats to increase your trunk space. The van offers up to 16.3 cubic feet of cargo, and the space in the second and third-row seats offers an extra 106 cubic feet.

If you get the cargo van from Connect, you get up to 127 cubic feet in trunk space. With the two rows of seats folded down, it increases by 105 cubic feet. So, it depends on how much space you want. The Connect does not offer a perfectly flat surface since it doesn’t use Stow ‘n Go seating like the Chrysler, but you still get extra space.

You can seat as many as seven passengers inside the Connect, and it can switch between a work van and a family minivan without the need to remove the seats. Every Connect comes with a contemporary touchscreen unit with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. There are some extra features like dual-zone automatic climate control. 

5. Chrysler Town & Country 

Another option with the Stow n Go technology is the Chrysler Town & Country. This was the first model that Stow n Go was used in, so you can fold the second and third rows of seats for extra space. Behind the third row, the minivan offers 33 cubic feet of cargo space. If you fold the third row of seats, the volume increases to 83.8 cubic feet.

Then, you get a maximum of 143.8 cubic feet when you fold both the second and third rows of seats down. It is a large minivan that can take up to seven passengers. Keep in mind that the Town & Country was discontinued in 2016. Even with this, you can purchase them in the second-hand market for a cheaper price.

The 2016 Town & Country models will be ideal for shuttling kids, providing comfort and space, and hauling stuff . It is powered by a 3.6-liter V6 that gives off 283 horsepower and works with a six-speed automatic. There are five different models that you can choose from, all of which come with the Stow n Go technology. 

6. Dodge Grand Caravan 

Another model with Stow n Go technology that has been discontinued is the Dodge Grand Caravan . Since Dodge is owned by Stellantis, it is allowed to use Stow n Go technology like the Chrysler vans. The Dodge model was discontinued after the 2021 model year, but you can still purchase them in the second-hand market. 

The trunk space behind the third row is 33 cubic feet, but you can fold the third row to increase the space to 83.3 cubic feet . Then, if you fold the second-row seats down, it will give you a maximum of 143.8 cubic feet. The space offers flexible seating so you can make space for passengers or your cargo. 

If you want to fold the seats in the second row for more space, you need to push the front seats forward. Then, open the floor storage bins and pull the lever for the seat recliner on the side of the seat. Once you release the seat, pull the release lever and push the seat down into the storage bin. It will get folded flat, and you can move the front seats back to their position. 

The Dodge comes with a 6.5-inch screen and standard auxiliary equipment as standard . The infotainment features are a bit outdated, so you don’t get features like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability. The minivan is a pretty practical minivan, and aside from the plenty of trunk space, you also get small item storage in the cabin. 

7. Kia Sedona 

You should also consider the Sedona if you want a minivan with a stow-and-go seating design. The Sedona offers three rows, and there are up to eight seats available. You can rearrange the seating for more cargo or more passengers since you can fold and stow the third-row seats flat and also move the second seats out of the way .

To stow away the seat, you will pull the plastic lever with the number 1 label to release the seat. Then, pull the seat back and fold it. To put it back up, pull the number 1 lever, and then there is another lever with a number 2 label. Pull that lever, and it will bring the seat back up. Behind the third row, you get trunk space of 33.9 cubic feet. 

If you fold the third row, you get up to 78.4 cubic feet . Then, folding both rows gives you a total space of 142 cubic feet, which is expected from a minivan. It has a Slide n Stow feature instead, so you can only slide the second-row seats towards the front row instead of removing them. Then, the car features a 7.0-inch touchscreen design. The Kia Carnival is another option.

8. Dodge Caravan 

Rounding up our list is the Dodge Caravan, which is not to be confused with the Grand Caravan . Both cars were released around the same time, but the Grand has been discontinued. In the Dodge Caravan, Stow n Go seating is standard for the third row , and there is optional Stow n Go for the second row. 

The Stow and Go feature was introduced to the Caravan in the 2005 model year. But before that, the feature was only available on the Grand model. The Caravan can fit up to seven passengers and has decent fuel economy , with 26 mpg on the highway. It offers two trim level s, which include SE and SXT, and limited features on both. 

The Dodge Caravan is pretty spacious, with 33 cubic feet of storage space behind the third row . If you fold down the third row and the second row of seating flat, you get up to 143.8 cubic feet of trunk space. Behind the second-row seat, you get up to 83.3 feet of trunk space. It also seats up to seven passengers, with plenty of legroom and head space. 

Which Minivan with Stow and Go Seats Offers the Best Rear Seat Options?
