“ Tell me the truth / Or tell me a lie / Tell me what I’ve gotta say to get out of this room alive

Show me the answers / Or give me a clue / There’s not enough space in the miles between me and you

Oh no / Here we go / Here come the saints of violence and innuendo

So tell me truth / Are you really surprised? / You live in a world where empathy goes to die” –

Lyrics from “The Saints of Violence and Innuendo”

“Planet Zero” ( PRESS HERE to watch the new music video) and “The Saints of Violence and Innuendo” introduce an album that sees Shinedown taking on the forces that keep us divided at a time when we need to be coming together. These songs warn of the dangerous dehumanizing consequences of cancel culture run rampant – if we shut each other down, we risk losing empathy, respect for one another, and our ability to communicate and unify in a way that leads to actual progress and understanding . Planet Zero is an incisive look at some of society’s most critical issues, including the increasingly toxic division among those of differing ideologies , the need for honesty in our public discourse , and the corrosive effects of social media and cancel culture on mental health and humanity . Part  social commentary  and part in-depth  exploration of the human psyche, there is also hope, triumph, and reminders that we all need one another. After all, it is the band’s impassioned striving for unity  that has long been at the heart of their creative output.

The high-concept, ultra-vivid, viscerally charged album was produced by Shinedown’s Eric Bass (who also produced the band’s 2018 acclaimed album ATTENTION ATTENTION ,)and recorded at  Bass’ newly built Big Animal Studio in South Carolina.

Shinedown also recently made their ATTENTION ATTENTION feature film available worldwide. A stunning visual counterpart to their 2018 acclaimed album of the same name, the film brings to life the album’s narrative about a mental health journey and the resolve of the human spirit, weaving together 14 songs into a provocative and thought-provoking cinematic story that illuminates yet another dimension of Shinedown’s limitless creativity.  PRESS HERE to watch the trailer. The film, directed by Bill Yukich (Beyoncé, Metallica, Wiz Khalifa) is now available to rent and purchase worldwide on Vimeo and is available on iTunes in select territories. It is also available on digital and cable VOD in the U.S. and Canada , and on Blu-ray and DVD – PRESS HERE to purchase and watch.

In the wake of bands such as Creed and Nickelback, rock witnessed a resurgence in the 2000s, aided later by Shinedown. Originally comprised of vocalist Brent Smith, guitarist Jasin Todd, bassist Brad Stewart, and drummer Barry Kersh, the band inked a recording deal with Atlantic Records soon after forming.

Shinedown’s debut album Leave a Whisper was released in July 2003, immediately introducing the band’s melodic rock sensibilities to a large audience. Featuring the singles “Fly from the Inside,” “Burning Bright,” and “45,” the album charted at No. 53 on the Billboard 200 and has since been certified platinum. Following the release, the band embarked on an extensive touring schedule, which lasted until the end of 2004.

Shinedown’s sophomore album Us and Them arrived in October 2005, led by the No. 1 Active Rock Chart single “Save Me.” Subsequent singles included “Heroes” and “I Dare You,” the latter of which was used by the WWE in promotion of “WrestleMania 22.” In support of the record, the band toured on the 2006 SnoCore Tour alongside Seether and Flyleaf, as well as with Trapt on the Equinox tour.

Following Us and Them, Shinedown underwent considerable membership changes. The 2008 lineup consisted of Brent Smith, Barry Kersh, guitarists Nick Perri and Zach Meyers, and bassist Eric Bass.

The group’s third full-length release Sound of Madness appeared in July 2008, after which guitarist Nick Perri left the band. The album was produced by Rob Cavallo, known for his work with the Goo Goo Dolls and Green Day, and peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard 200. While it was led by the single “Devour,” the subsequent Billboard Top 10 single “Second Chance” proved a real breakthrough for the band, earning triple platinum certification.

The full-length Amaryllis followed in March 2012, charting at No. 4 on the Billboard 200. Marking Shinedown’s most successful release to date, the album earned strong reviews from critics and spawned the singles “Bully,” “Unity,” and “Enemies.”

In addition to playing incredible shows and releasing a steady supply of innovative music, Shinedown also continues to use their voice for good. Viewing fans as family, Shinedown’s artists leverage their fame to help support notable charities, give-back programs, and organizations dedicated to bringing awareness to inequalities. Organizations that Shinedown helps support through proceeds include Ecologi, the American Red Cross, ASPCA Animal Rescue, DC Strong, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Direct Relief, Backline, National Alliance on Mental Illness, and Heal Autism Now.

The vast number of programs that Shinedown partners with showcases the band’s dedication to making the world a better place. From fighting climate change to improving access to healthcare for musicians, Shinedown is far more than just a group of performers. This is just one of the many reasons for the strong bond between Shinedown and their dedicated fan base.

Live reviews

I really had a great evening, this was my first time seeing them live and they were a lot better than I expected. Brent did talk a lot during songs, sometimes telling us things about the band that were sort of necessary but other times it almost seemed like he kept talking just so he wouldn’t have to play. I was also shocked to realise only 3 songs of their new album were performed; Attention Attention (the album title as well as a song) wasn’t even played, and instead they relied on material from the early 2000’s which I was unfamiliar with (I only know their last two albums in depth). The crowd loved it and could all sing along (so maybe it was my fault for not recognising as much) but I am still confused why the band came on stage with the start of Attention Attention playing and to not even perform that song on stage. Brent wore a jacket with the ‘!’ of the album cover which was also featured on the drums so it all seemed that the evening would be full of new material and still they didn’t go into their new album as much as I’d hoped, they did about 3 songs each from each record. This doesn’t mean I didn’t have a great time, on the contrary, but it didn’t make sense to me that the new album had come out months ago and 75% of what they played was old material.

Let me begin this review with a disclaimer... I LIKE SHINEDOWN. I always have. I've been to many good shows of theirs. This, however, was not one. At first I thought that Brents vocals were too quiet because of sound issues. I soon realised that the issue was more complicated than that. All new tracks where heavy synth is used was louder for vocals than the older tracks (which I'll admit I vastly prefer) where vocals were lost. Now, if I were being a bit cynical I might put this down to him not being up to the task of performing these anymore. Being generous I'll assume maybe the difference in mic or setup caused the discrepancy. For me though, this was the final problem in an already flawed show. The other, more minor complaints were the setlist - which was heavy with new material and ignored a fair few of my older favourites and, even more minor and probably more my issue than anything else, was stage presence - Anyone remember the days when you didn't get a pious lecture about music and music fans?

Long and short of this, I'd give Shinedown another shot hoping they returned to performance style of yesteryear because I really do like their music. If they didn't improve though, I'd be spending my money elsewhere.

I have seen Shinedown in 7 different cities for 16 different shows since 2003. The shows have been at small bars and all the way up to large venues and stadiums.

The reason I have seen them this many times is because of the live show they give you, makes you want to come back for more. Every show is very energetic and very engaging. Their shows are great if you are on the front row or all the way at the back of the venue.

They will play any number of their hits, with the occasional cover or fan favorite that is not a single. Every song has its own build up and intro that keeps you wanting more.

Lead singer Brent Smith has an unbeatable stage presence and the voice to back it up.

In recent years, as their popularity has grown, their stages feature pyro and flames that you will only see with the biggest of acts. With all the distractions, don’t expect them to just stand there and play thinking that is enough. All of the band members will be moving all over the stage constantly engaging the crowd.

If you are going to be front at a show, Shinedown is definitely one of the best to be front at.

I love listening to Shinedown's music and I bought Attention Attention. Wednesday, May 16, 2018 was my first time to see Shinedown live in concert. They did not disappoint me. All four band members were full of energy on stage and very engaged with the entire audience (or so it seemed - that's how good they are.) They also sound as good live as they do on their albums which is often not the case with many bands. And the bass player and lead guitar player sang backup and their harmony was spot on. The lead singer briefly explained the meaning behind some of their songs. He also walked onto the floor several times and interacted with the audience on the upper decks and the crowd was very polite and gave him room to perform. Their light show is also very good. Lots of laser lights and designs. The only complaint I might have is there was too much smoke used and at this particular venue it became overwhelming to some. I liked Shinedown live in concert so much, I am purchasing tickets to see them again in a August with Godsmack. Shinedown is phenomenal live!!

Epic concert, awesome performance at a great theater. it was insanely hot but by the water Jones Beach kept cool. Brent sand awesomely but I was a bit disappointed by the lack of songs from the new album. They sang Get Up but that was it. They also only sang their most popular songs but almost none from their first few albums and none at all that weren’t their most famous. I would’ve liked to hear some more somgs that weren’t as popular as I’ve heard them many times. It was great that they coheadlined with godsmack as they put on a kickass performance also. They really create the classic rock atmosphere with their fans. The crowd was on fire from shinedown and godsmack kept it alive. It also seemed to me that Brent’s voice sounded slightly different, maybe it was mechanized or something because it sounded higher pitched. I’m gusssing he lost his voice over the tour and had to compensate, better that than cancel the show, this was also the last show of the first leg so they’re taking a break. Altogether best concert I’ve ever been.

Since hard rock band Shinedown in 2001 they have enjoyed huge global support from a large, loyal fanbase. The group has built a large reputation on this support and they are always held in large acclaim when they visit the UK due to their anthemic and passionate mannerisms when conducting themselves live.

They command arenas with their presence and their music, lead singer Barry Kerch has an ability when addressing the crowd to make it feel like he is talking directly to you as opposed to baiting a crowd of a thousand strong. The instrumentals are also designed to fill arenas, Shinedown are known for having a large sound but this is amplified in a live setting as they tear apart the sound barriers and really rock out. The crowd joins them in this atmosphere of carnage, as they throw themselves around and mosh along, lift each other onto shoulders and crowd surfing towards the front. Shinedown appreciates this and asks for more mayhem during finale 'Bully' which of course the audience happily oblige to.

I have never seen Shinedown before last night. I knew they were going to be good, but I didn't know HOW good. This was literally one of the best concerts I have ever attended. Shinedown as a band, but especially the lead singer, are true performers. The lead singer doesn't just stand up there and sing and do a few cool little things he OWNS THAT STAGE! He has a perfectly executed act that draws in the crowd, and leaves you wanting more. Also, I give these guys mad credit for performing the entire show in suits. The Lead singer was pouring sweat but he remained Unphased and you would never know it was happening unless you were close enough to see the poor man was like a leaky faucet (we were right next to the stage). He never once stopped to wipe the sweat off of himself, but did in fact help his band members and wipe their sweat during an instrumental section. This band does not disappoint! 10/10. It's an amazing thing to experience a true performance. Will definitely be seeing them again.

Shinedown have risen in the ranks of hard rock stardom since their formation in 2001. Although a slow process, the band is far from reaching international mainstream success, the band has nonetheless made quite a name for itself in the hard rock genre and has mustered a whole legion of dedicated fans since their formation. The band is popular with rock fans in the UK and it was only too clear how dedicated and devoted their fans were at their concert. People were singing along to every word, the lyrics so well known by them that they could recite whole songs by memory. Lead singer Brent Smith was the man of the show and led the band with his incredible vocals. The band were all brilliantly talented musicians and the energy and excitement levels of the crowd did not waver all night, kept alive by the energy and enthusiasm of the band members themselves, on stage. The entire night was electric, with a mix of fan favourite classics and less well known singles being played.

As always the band was great! This was my 8th time seeing them. They sang about 19 songs some old some new. They were dynamic and interacted with the crowd. We were there at 4:00pm and were one of the first in line, but we were not able to enter this venue due to people walking up to the front, pushing, or just disrespectfully shoving their way to the front having just gotten there. This was completely unfair to those who were early as well as were waiting standing for hours to see one of the greatest bands up close. We ended up towards the back!!!!! The venue NEEDS to do a better job keeping the crowd organized/fair (adding ropes) to those who actually took the time to go early. As much as I love Shinedown and have gone to other states (HOURS AWAY) just to go see them, I would NOT go see them again if they visit this venue again.

Last night I saw Shinedown for the first time. They were co-headlining a tour with FFDP and had Sixx Am and As Lions as "opening" acts. I've never heard of As Lions but I was very impressed and will hear more of them. Sixx Am took the stage next and killed it. It was my first time seeing Sixx Am live as well. The sound was amazing. Next up was Shinedown...I've never seen them live but I love this band as well. The performance was amazing and the interaction with the crowd was great. My only "complaint" would be the sound man had them entirely too loud. I love my music loud but when you couldn't understand what Brent was saying...but the performance was amazing. FFDP ended the show and like the first two performances were nice and loud but not deafening. I will definitely see Shinedown (and the other bands) again. Rock on!!

Shinedown announce The Revolutions Live US tour

Shinedown will play 21 dates with Three Days Grace and From Ashes To New

Shinedown group shot

Shinedown have announced The Revolutions Live US tour. It'll kick off at The Dow Event Center in Saginaw, MI, on April 3, and climax at the Moda Center in Portland, OR, on May 9 (full dates below). Support will come from Three Days Grace and From Ashes To New.

Presales will begin on January 24 through January 26, with general sales starting Friday January 27 at 10am local time.

The news comes a week after Shinedown launched a video for Dead Don’t Die, the latest track to be lifted from last year's Planet Zero album.

“‘ Dead Don’t Die is the first song I think any of us had ever brought in completed that really didn’t go through some sort of major change," says guitarist Zach Myers. "I’m never a fan of talking about what songs mean because I feel like you put them in a box… but the song is about Brent [frontman Brent Smith], and the people like him.

"I’ve seen this man be at the bottom before, and pick himself up, and never stop trying to be better. I hope everyone feels something when they listen to it. I hope it makes you feel like you can run through a brick wall."

The new tour announcement comes on the heels of the recent RIAA gold certification of Shinedown’s 2018 record-breaking studio album Attention Attention . The band’s chart-topping and sixth full-length record, featuring hits such as crossover anthem “Get Up,” the explosive “Monsters,” RIAA certified gold hit “Devil,” the rousing “The Human Radio,” and title track, has accumulated more than 622 million global streams, debuted Top 5 on the Billboard 200, simultaneously hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Alternative, Top Rock and Hard Rock Albums Charts, and led to five iHeart Radio Music Award nominations.

Attention Attention has also been turned into an enthralling sonic and visual experience , bringing to life the in-depth story behind the album. The feature film, released in September via Gravitas Ventures, is available for viewing on digital and cable VOD in the US and Canada via iTunes, Amazon , Google Play, Vudu, Comcast, Dish Network, Verizon Fios, and Mediacom. The stunning work of art, hailed as “a visual masterpiece” and “optical roller-coaster ride,” was directed by Bill Yukich (Beyoncé, Metallica, Wiz Khalifa) and features theatrical performances from the band, Melora Walters (Magnolia, Big Love, PEN15), and Francesca Eastwood (Old, Twin Peaks, Fargo), among others. From life’s lowest lows to the highest highs, what emerges from the Attention Attention film is a powerful and enduring statement about humanity, overcoming struggle, the importance of mental health, not being afraid to fail, and the resolve of the human spirit.

SHINEDOWN's BRENT SMITH Teases Possible JELLY ROLL Collaboration: 'It Might Be In The Works'

Renowned vocalist Brent Smith of SHINEDOWN recently joined host Erik Zachary as the latest guest on the "Spout" podcast, where he delved into a plethora of topics ranging from music collaborations to fitness routines and the profound lessons learned from influential women in his life. Watch the full episode below.

During the podcast, Smith revealed the exciting possibility of a collaboration with country star Jelly Roll , stating, "100 percent. It might be in the works. I mean, I don't know. If I say it, it's probably going to happen."

Speaking about Jelly Roll , Smith expressed deep admiration, highlighting their mutual respect and affection, saying, "We just have a mutual love for one another and just care so deeply about who he is as an individual and his story."

Smith went on to say: "This man [ Jelly Roll ] is the real thing on so many different levels; [he] could not be a more genuine individual; talented as all get out. I remember when, you know, we brought him out with us in 2022 on tour, there were people that were like, who is, why, like, what is going on here? Who is this? And I'm, like, 'Just get ready, man'... I told him [ Jelly Roll ] too. I said, 'Man, you are about to get into the most amazing rocket ship that only you can captain.'"

The conversation turned to SHINEDOWN 's latest single, "A Symptom Of Being Human" , which recently soared to the top of the charts, marking the band's 19th No. 1 single. Reflecting on the song's genesis, Smith shared, "The song came from the fact that we're all a work in progress. You know, we wrote the song in the midst of a pandemic when everybody was going through an array of emotions. People were angry. They were sad. They were lonely. They were frustrated. And a lot of ways symptom was a gift because it kind of utilized us as a vessel so that it could be born."

Smith also touched on the evolving landscape of music genres, and how SHINEDOWN 's catalog is now being discovered by younger audiences. "We don't really write music inside of a vacuum, nor do we write in a box," he said. "And what I mean by that is, to us, we're inspired by so many different styles of music and so many different types of prolific songwriters that, go from all sides of the spectrum of music. We don't handcuff ourselves creatively. We never have on any record. So, it's not to us about, it's not a reflection of whether it's pop music, rock music, rap music, country music, metal, however, you want to look at it. It's about all music. And I think that for us too, we've always had a way of discussing the human spirit more than anything in our songs."

Beyond music, Smith , a dedicated fitness enthusiast, offered valuable tips for jump-starting a healthy lifestyle. Recommending a simple-yet-effective starting point, he said, "Go outside in the sunshine and start with a walk...it will change your mood quickly."

Drawing from personal experience, Smith shared his journey towards health and sobriety, crediting his son for catalyzing positive change in his life. "My son saved my life...it was no longer about me," he revealed.

In addition to fitness advice, Smith imparted timeless wisdom inherited from his mother and grandmother. Reflecting on his grandmother's teachings, he shared, "My granny always just told me, she was, like, 'Look, the key to success is to never arrive.' Like, there's always another gear. There's always another level. There's always another mountain to climb. And her whole thing was always like, climb the mountain to the top. It's not about conquering the mountain. It's about climbing that mountain and then finding if you're ready for another challenge go find a bigger mountain. So, it was always about learning from that, you know involving yourself in the experience being a witness to everything around you and being present and listening to people; being understanding of the fact that you know, you want to lead the way, but you also want to lead, you know, lead from the front and try to surround yourself with like-minded people."
