The Guide To Successfully Bypassing a Ford PATS System Without Keys

If you’ve ever lost your key or had it stolen, you know how frustrating it can be to get a new one. Even if you have a spare, it can be a pain to get it programmed. And if you don’t have a spare, you’re stuck waiting for a tow truck. But what if I told you there was a way to bypass the Ford Pats system without a key? You can do it with just a few tools and some patience.

If you’re looking to bypass Ford’s PATS system without a key, there are a few ways to do it. One way is to use a software program that can simulate the key’s signal. This will trick the car into thinking that the key is present, and allow you to start the engine. Another way to bypass PATS is with an electronic device called a transponder emulator. This emits a signal that tricks the car into thinking that a valid key is present. Once again, this will allow you to start the engine without using a key. These are just two of the ways that you can bypass Ford’s PATS system without using a key. If you’re looking for more information on how to do this, there are plenty of resources available online.

Is There a Way to Bypass Ford Pats System?

The Ford PATS system is an anti-theft system that was implemented on vehicles starting in the late 1990s. The system uses a transponder key that sends a signal to the vehicle’s computer, which then disables the engine if it does not recognize the key. There have been reports of people successfully bypassing the Ford PATS system, but it is generally not recommended as it can compromise the security of your vehicle.

How Do You Bypass Ford Theft System?

If your Ford vehicle has the Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS), there are two ways you can bypass it. The first is to have a transponder key programmed by a professional locksmith or dealership, which will allow your car to start without setting off the alarm. The second way is to use a device called a PATS bypass module, which tricks the car into thinking that the correct key is being used even if it isn’t. This option is less expensive than getting a new key, but it’s important to note that it’s also less reliable and could potentially damage your car’s electrical system if not installed correctly.

How Do You Bypass a Transponder Without a Key?

There are a few ways that you can bypass a transponder without a key. One way is to use a device called an RFID reader. This device will read the signal from the transponder and allow you to pass through the barrier. Another way is to use a magnetic field generator. This device will create a magnetic field that will disrupt the signal from the transponder.

How Do You Start a Ford F150 Without a Chip Key?

If you have a Ford F-150 without a chip key, there are a few ways you can start it. One way is to use a spare key that doesn’t have the chip. Another way is to use a screwdriver or other metal object to push the start button while also holding down the unlock button on the key fob. If neither of these methods work, you may need to get your truck towed and have a new ignition system installed.

Ford Pats Delete Software

If you’re looking to improve the performance of your Ford vehicle, one option is to delete the PATS system. This software can help improve your engine’s power and efficiency, and it’s a relatively simple process that anyone can do. The first step is to download the appropriate software for your vehicle. There are a few different options available, so be sure to choose one that’s compatible with your car. Once you have the software, simply follow the instructions on how to install it. Once installed, you’ll notice an immediate difference in your engine’s power and performance. If you want to take things a step further, you can also add a tuner or chip to really maximize the gains. Either way, deleting PATS is a great way to get some extra horsepower out of your Ford car or truck.

Diy P.A.T.S. Delete

If you’re looking to improve your car’s performance, one of the best things you can do is install a P.A.T.S. delete kit. This will eliminate the need for your car to use the factory-installed anti-theft system, which can weigh down your engine and hinder its performance. A P.A.T.S. delete kit is relatively easy to install, and it’s a great way to get more power out of your engine without spending a lot of money on upgrades.

Pats Antenna Loop Trick

Pats Antenna Loop Trick If you’re looking for a way to improve the quality of your radio reception, you may want to try the “Pats Antenna Loop Trick.” This simple and inexpensive modification can make a big difference in the performance of your antenna, especially if you live in an area with poor reception. Here’s how it works: first, disconnect the ground wire from your antenna. Next, twist the end of the wire around into a loop and reconnect it to the ground terminal. The size of the loop will determine the frequency range that is amplified – a larger loop will amplify lower frequencies, while a smaller loop will amplify higher frequencies. This trick is named after Pat Tice, who popularized it in the early days of amateur radio. It’s been around for decades, but it’s still one of the best-kept secrets among radio enthusiasts. Give it a try and see for yourself!

Pats Bypass With Relay

If you’re looking to install a new electrical system in your home, or even just upgrade an old one, you may be wondering if a relay is the right choice for you. After all, relays are often used in complex systems like car engines – so surely they must be too complicated for the average person to use in their own home? Well, actually, relays can be quite simple to use and understand once you know how they work. Here’s everything you need to know about using a relay to bypass your home’s existing electrical system. First of all, what is a relay? In short, it’s an electrically operated switch. A current passing through the coil of the relay creates a magnetic field which activates the switch, allowing current to flow through. The main advantage of using a relay is that it allows you to control a high-powered circuit with a low-powered one – for example, you could use a small switch in your hand to activate a much larger switch elsewhere (like in an engine). Now that we know what relays are and how they work, let’s take a look at how they can be used to bypass an existing electrical system. The first thing you’ll need to do is identify where your main power supply enters the house; this will be where you’ll install the relay. Once the relay is installed, any circuits which are connected directly to the mains power supply will now go through the relay instead. This means that if any problems occur with those circuits – such as a power cut – the rest of your electrical system will remain unaffected. One final thing to bear in mind is that installing a relay bypass isn’t something that should be attempted unless you’re confident working with electricity; if in doubt, always seek professional help. With that said, however, following these simple instructions should allow anyone with basic DIY skills to successfully install their own Pats Bypass Relay!

Ford Chip Key Bypass

If your Ford vehicle is equipped with a chip key system and you lose or damage your key, you may be wondering how you can get by without having to replace it. Luckily, there is a way to bypass the chip key system so that you can still use your car. Here’s what you need to know about bypassing the Ford chip key system. The first thing you’ll need to do is locate the data link connector (DLC) on your vehicle. This is usually located under the dash on the driver’s side. Once you’ve found the DLC, plug in a scan tool or code reader and check for any codes that may be stored in the computer. If there are no codes present, then proceed to step two. If there are codes present, they will need to be cleared before proceeding. The easiest way to do this is with a code reader or scan tool that has the ability to clear codes. Once the codes have been cleared, move on to step two. Next, locate the transponder module near the ignition cylinder and unplug it from its connector. Once it’s disconnected, ground one end of a jumper wire and touch it to either terminal of themodule for five seconds . This should disabletheft protection mode and allow you toturnon your engine without usinga chipkey . Starttheengineand letitrunforafewminutesbeforeturningoffand reconnectingthemodule . Now that you know how to bypass the Ford chip key system, you can rest assured that you won’t be stranded if you lose or damage your key!

Ford Pats System

The Ford Pats System is an anti-theft system that was introduced on the 1997 Ford F-150. The system uses a transponder key that sends a signal to the computer to disable the fuel pump and ignition system if it does not recognize the key. The Ford Pats System can be bypassed with a simple $5 tool, but doing so will trigger the alarm and cause the vehicle to enter “limp mode” where it will only be able to travel at a very slow speed. There are many ways to bypass the Ford Pats System, but doing so may void your warranty or cause other problems.

Ford Pats System Troubleshooting

In the early 1990s, Ford Motor Company introduced the Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) on its vehicles. The system uses a transponder chip in the ignition key to disable the engine’s fuel system if an incorrect key is used. PATS was introduced as a theft deterrent, and it has been very effective. However, like any mechanical system, it is not without its problems. If you are having trouble with your PATS system, there are some things you can do to troubleshoot the problem. First, check to make sure that the battery in your key fob is fresh. A weak or dead battery can cause all sorts of problems with electronic systems like PATS. If the battery is good, then try reprogramming the key fob. This is usually a simple process that can be done by following the instructions in your owner’s manual. If neither of those solutions works, then there may be a problem with one of the components in the PATS system itself. The most likely culprit is the transponder chip in your ignition key. These chips can go bad over time, and they are not always easy to replace. You may need to take your car to a dealership or locksmith who specializes in automotive electronics to have them replace the chip for you. Hopefully these tips will help you get your PATS system up and running again if you’re having trouble with it. Remember, if all else fails, you can always call a tow truck!

In order to bypass the Ford Pats security system, all you need is a key that has not been programmed to the vehicle. Once you have this key, simply insert it into the ignition and turn it to the “on” position. This will bypass the system and allow you to start your car without any issues.

How To Bypass Ford PATS System Without Key [Explained]

how to bypass Ford PATS system without key

If you know how to bypass Ford PATS system without key, you can use it as a temporary solution until you get a new transponder key. Bypassing the Ford PATS system isn’t difficult once you learn what PATS is and how it works.

You’ll also learn how to disable the PATS system, reset PATS, program a new key, and the common symptoms of a failed PATS module in this article. Let’s see how you can bypass Ford PATS and start your car.

how to bypass Ford PATS system without key

Table of Contents

What is ford pats.

The PATS system in Ford vehicles stands for Passive Anti Theft System. It was created as a security measure to prevent Ford vehicles from being stolen by thieves or criminals.

It was developed first in 1996 and since then, many Ford vehicles have incorporated the PATS in the vehicles. However, not all models of Ford after 1996 have a PATS.

The PATS sends a message to the car when the first or original Ford Key is inserted in the vehicle. The system will know if any other key is inserted instead of the original one. It distinguishes between original and fake keys.

Note: You can also read how to bypass Anti Theft system chevy cavalier .

How Does Ford PATS Work?

There is an RFID chip inside the Ford Key. This RFID chip communicates with the transponder in the steering column of the Ford vehicle. Each RFID code is unique and made for a specific Ford vehicle.

PATS is also called Ford Securilock. When you insert the key in the ignition, the theft light displays momentarily to activate PATS. While the PCM powers the injectors and fuel pump, PATS determines whether the key you’ve inserted is indeed a real one.

When you put another key instead of the original one, it won’t have the RFID chip and it won’t communicate with the transponder. That’s how the system will know that you’re not using the original key and it won’t start the car or turn over the engine.

How To Bypass Ford PATS System Without Key [Known A-Z]

Now that you know how the Ford PATS works, you’ll require the original key’s RFID chip to bypass Ford PATS without key. Without the signal from it, your car won’t start.

The original key is often called the transponder key or chip key. Even if you don’t have the original key, you’ll need the RFID chip from it. You’d also need to make copies of the chip key so that it can go into your ignition.

So, here’s a list of the tools you’ll need to get the job done:

  • New Keys – These keys have to be cut to match the original key with the chip.
  • Flathead Screwdriver – You need it to take out the RFID chip from the main key.
  • Tape – It’s needed to mount the chip close to the ignition.

Before we get started on how to bypass the Ford PATS system without a chip key, you must realize that bypassing the Ford PATS is only a temporary solution and it compromises the security of the car.

Get a transponder key as soon as possible to secure your vehicle again for protection against car burglars. Without that said, let’s look at how to bypass the pats system on Fords in simple steps:

Step 1: Cut The New Keys

The new keys that you have just got must match the original key. Take it to a dealer and have them cut the new keys so that their match matches the main key as much as possible. Once it matches the shape of the original chip key, it’ll trick the system into thinking that you have the right key.

Now the system thinks that you have the right key but you still don’t have the chip to bypass the PATS system. That’s where the screwdriver comes into play.

Step 2: Remove the Transponder

Once you have the RFID chip in addition to a matching key, you’re all set to bypass Pats systems on your Ford vehicle. If you take out the transponder from the original key with the chip undamaged, you will have everything you need to bypass the Ford PATS. Follow these steps to take out the chip from the key:

  • Use a flathead screwdriver and pry open the black square at the top of the key.
  • Don’t apply too much pressure to avoid breaking the chip.
  • Take out the transponder from the original key.

Once you have the transponder with you, you’re all set to bypass the PATS security on Ford.

Step 3: Bypass PATS

With the new keys that are cut to match the original key and the transponder from the original key, you can bypass the Ford PATS system easily with the following steps:

  • Put the transponder close to the ignition so that the vehicle can read the chip.
  • Insert the new key in the ignition and start the car.
  • It may require a few tries for you to figure out where to place the transponder so that it can be easily read.
  • Once you have identified the correct spot, mount the transponder on the ignition using the tape.

Now, you have successfully bypassed the Ford PATs and you can continue to do so for as long as you want. But if you leave the transponder there, anyone with a key can steal your car.

You can get a new key and also program it to start your car. You’ll learn how to program the key later in this article after we discuss how you can disable the Ford PATS .

Advantages Of Bypassing Ford PATS

The main advantage of bypassing the Ford PATS is that you can drive your car. Here is the list of other advantages that you’ll get if  you know how to bypass the ford transponder key on your own:

Cost Savings

Getting a new transponder key and programming it can easily cost between $80- $200. But you can bypass PATS for a fraction of that cost and use your car.

Easy Process

You don’t need a ton of expertise on car parts to perform the bypassing procedure. Just the knowledge of this article will be enough for you to get the job done.

Disadvantages Of Bypassing Ford PATS

Here are the disadvantages of bypassing Ford PATs:

Compromises Security

The biggest downside to bypassing Ford PATS is that it increases the security threat of your car. By eliminating the need for the transponder, anyone with the key has the ability to steal the car.

Temporary Fix

Bypassing the PATS is only a temporary fix to the real problem of car theft. Use it in an emergy situation where you need a workaround but as soon as you can afford to get a new transponder key, get it and protect your car from theft.

How To Disable The Ford PATS System?

Disabling the Ford PATS increases the security risk and it’s not recommended. But if you are keen on doing it, here’s how you can disable the Ford PATS:

Wrap Wire Around The Key

Wrap a standard wire around the key and use tape to make sure that it stays there. You’ll need a key that has a transponder to make sure it can communicate with the PATS module.

Connect To The Module

Most Ford vehicles have the PATS module placed behind the steering wheel. You can easily access it and look for a wire that connects to the ignition. That’s the wire that powers the transponder and sends a signal to the PATS module to start the car.

Fix The Wiring

Now the Ford PATS has been disabled. But you don’t want to drive around like this as it’ll look sketchy. Make the wiring look as normal as possible in case you get pulled over by a cop.

Main Signs Of A Failed PATS Module

When your car doesn’t start, it can be frustrating to determine the root cause of the problem. The problem can be with the PATS module or the ignition. If you know how to check a failed PATS module, you need to resolve that issue first.

2000 ford excursion pats bypass

Here are the main signs of a failed PATS module:

Flashing Theft Light

The theft light will constantly blink if you put in a key that the vehicle doesn’t recognize. In that case, you can get the key programmed and start your vehicle. The flashing theft light is the main sign of a failed PATS module.

If you put a key that is programmed for the vehicle, the theft light will stop flashing and stay solid for a few seconds. Then, it will go away and the light will flash when you take out the key from the ignition.

Engine Doesn’t Crank

If the engine doesn’t crank along with the flashing theft light, then you have more reason to believe that the PATS module is malfunctioning. In some cases, the engine will crank alright but the car won’t start if there is a failing PATS.

Stalling Engine

If the engine stalls immediately within one or two seconds after you start the car, there could be an issue with the PATS module.

Before you tear down the ignition, know you know how you can check whether the PATS module is malfunctioning. If you can start the car by solving or getting around the PATS, there are no mechanical issues with your car.

How To Reset Ford PATS Module

Resetting Ford PATS system is easy if you know what you’re doing. The good thing is that you don’t even need to get into the vehicle or start the ignition to do this job. Follow these steps to reset the PATS on your Ford vehicle:

  • Put your key in the driver’s side door.
  • Turn the key but make sure that you don’t turn them enough to unlock the door completely.
  • Hold the key in this position for 50-60 seconds.
  • Turn the key towards the opposite side.
  • Hold the key for 50-60 seconds in this position as well.
  • Take the key out, get in your car and start the engine.

Your PATS module should be reset. Keep in mind that the reason for this problem is that the PATS module is sensitive to time and it won’t work if you don’t do it within 50-60 seconds.

How To Program Keys In PATS Module?

For the Ford vehicles that were made after 2010, you need to take them to a dealer or locksmith as there are legal issues surrounding them. But for the models that were made before 2010, you can program the keys using scanning tools like Forscan or Solus Edge.

2000 ford excursion pats bypass

Here’s how you can program new keys once you plug the Solus Edge scanner into your vehicle:

  • Scan the device and allow automatic ID.
  • Select the “Anti-Theft (PATS)” option.
  • Choose “Functional Tests” followed by “Security Access”.
  • It’ll take ten minutes for security access.
  • Once the wait is over, you get a wide range of options including “Program Additional Key”.
  • Make sure you have the right key and place it in the ignition.
  • Press “Continue” and your new key is now programmed.

Do all Ford vehicles have PATS?

Most Ford vehicles that were made after 1996 have PATS. Even though the majority of the Ford vehicles in running have PATS, not all Ford vehicles come with this security system.

Is PATS a reliable security system?

PATS is an innovative technology to secure cars against theft. There are more than 18 billion codes possible and the PATS system recognizes the correct one. It’s one of the most reliable security systems for cars without any doubt.

Can I add an anti-theft system to my Ford vehicles?

If your car doesn’t have an anti-theft system in place already, you can install one. There’s a wide range of options to choose from between $100- $300 but you can’t do PATS as those come pre-built from Fords.

Which Ford vehicles are most commonly stolen?

Ford Mustang has a high resell value and they are the most commonly stolen Ford vehicles. That’s why having a functional PATS in place becomes even more valuable if you own a Ford Mustang.

Now you know how to bypass Ford PATS system without key in a few easy steps. The PATS is a great security measure against theft and useful for many car owners.

We hope this guide has helped you understand all about the PATS system, how it works, and how you can disable and reset it. Let us know if you have any questions about the PATS by leaving a comment below.

Car manufacturers now use specific anti-theft systems in their cars. PATS (Passive Anti-theft System), also known as SecuriLock is Ford’s security system. Ford started using the system in 1996, and since then, they’ve made many improvements.

The Ford PATS system uses engine immobilizer technology. Ford cars with the PATS system are safe from hot wiring. Some countries, such as Germany, the UK, Australia, Canada, and Finland, have laws mandating carmakers to use immobilizer systems.

According to the Economic Journal, immobilizer systems have reduced car theft by at least 40%. However, immobilizer systems are not entirely theft-proof. Some chips used in the transponder keys are crackable.

How does Ford’s PATS system work?

Ford’s PATS system uses a straightforward concept to work. To start, Ford vehicles with the PATS anti-theft system have a transponder behind the steering column. A transponder is a device that receives radio frequency signals and transmits signals.

Then, there’s the transponder key. The transponder key is simply a key with a chip enclosed in its head. Each transponder key has a unique code. The key also transmits radio frequency.

When you insert the transponder key in the ignition, a short wireless communication occurs. The communication happens between the key and the transponder behind the steering column. Within seconds, the transmission is over.

If the steering column transponder recognizes the radio frequency in the transponder key, it allows the engine to start. When the steering column transponder doesn’t identify the key, the car won’t start . Pretty simple right?

Another cool thing about Ford’s PATS system is that you can’t lock the transponder key in the car. The PATS system can tell if the key is still in the car. That solves the problem of locking your key in the car and getting stranded.

Is there a way to bypass Ford’s theft system?

Yes, there is a way to bypass Ford’s theft system. Now, it’s essential to know that the Ford PATS system connects to the car’s Engine Control Module (ECM). If not done correctly, you can damage some electronics and trigger signs of a bad ECU.

If you’re trying to bypass the Ford theft system, know it’s temporary. Once you bypass the protective system, your car becomes an easy catch for thieves. Also, you need to understand the system properly.

Ford’s passive anti-theft system comprises components like a transponder key, theft indicator, instrument cluster, powertrain control module, and transceiver module. There’s also a communication network that handles communication between the steering column transponder and the transponder key.

How do you bypass the Ford theft system?

2000 ford excursion pats bypass

Typically, Ford’s theft system comprises the passive anti-theft system (PATS) or SecuriLock. If you bypass the PATS system, you’ve bypassed Ford’s theft system.

However, Ford has moved to add more advanced technology to their theft system. Early this year, Ford announced they had teamed up with ADT to produce the ‘Canopy.’

The Canopy is a monitoring anti-theft device that identifies threats made to a car. ADT’s Canopy system will send reports of threats to the driver’s phone. With advanced technology, the system can detect suspicious movements of people around the vehicle.

The canopy consists of technology such as acoustic sensors, radar, LTE, GPS, and a camera. The anti-theft system hasn’t made it, and Ford models yet, but Ford will likely use it someday.

How do you bypass the passive anti-theft system?

If you lost your keys or your vehicle isn’t responding to the transponder key, you might want to try bypassing the system. However, this bypass is not permanent. You still have to get proper keys.

What you need to bypass Ford’s PATS

To bypass Ford’s passive anti-theft system, you need tools such as:

  • Original transponder key
  • New steel key
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Electrical tape

Steps to bypass Ford’s PATS

Now, let’s get into how to bypass Ford’s passive anti-theft system (PATS).

  • First, make sure you have the original or transponder key. If you don’t have the key, you can use the chip.
  • Then, it would be best if you had new steel keys to make copies. If the keys are not the same in shape and size as the transponder key, you will have to cut them. You will use the copy key on the ignition.
  • Use a flathead screwdriver to open the transponder key and get the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chip. Be careful with this step so you don’t ruin the transponder key.
  • Once you get the RFID chip, you can bypass the PATS system.
  • Get the chip and place it close to the ignition. Keep repositioning the chip until the car cranks. If the car starts cranking, you should know that the vehicle is responding to the chip.
  • Once you identify the area that responds to the transponder chip, use the electric tape to secure it.
  • Next, you can insert your copied steel key into the ignition and start your car.

Can you bypass the Ford passive anti-theft system without a key?

No, you can’t. Ford’s PATS system prevents anyone from starting the vehicle without a transponder key.

If you don’t have the original transponder or chip, you have to call your dealership for assistance. You can also buy a new transponder key and program it. However, the PATS II system only allows you to program a new key if you have an original key.

Without two transponder keys (both the old and new ones), you can’t program a transponder by yourself. You can go to the dealership, and they’ll assist you in programming the new key.

If you want to program the new key yourself, you can buy a key programming machine.

How do I disable my transponder without a key?

If you have a transponder chip key, you can easily disable your transponder. The process can take as little as 20-25 minutes. If you don’t have the transponder key, you’ll have to follow a more tricky process.

To disable your transponder with a key, you can follow the steps below:

  • Insert your key into the ignition and set the key to ‘on.’
  • Leave the key on the ignition for ten minutes, then set it ‘off.’
  • Turn the ignition back to ‘on’ and let it stay for about ten minutes again before turning it ‘off.’
  • Your key is clear, and you can now enter the programming sequence.
  • Remove the key from the ignition without turning it ‘on.’ Voila! Your transponder key is now disabled.

What if you don’t have a key and still want to disable your transponder?

Well, you can use a transponder bypass kit. A bypass kit is probably the safest way to disable your transponder without a key.

You can get a transponder bypass kit or a bypass module at mechanic retail shops. These kits are affordable. Depending on the brand, you can spend between $10-$20.

A transponder bypass module is a device that mimics your car’s key and acts as a safe way to remote-start your vehicle. While buying a transponder bypass kit, you can choose between a regular or universal kit.

Also, some bypass kits and modules require you to have a spare key. Make sure the one you buy doesn’t need a spare key to work.

Pros of bypassing the Ford PATS system

The first pro of bypassing the Ford PATS system is that it saves money. If you don’t want to spend money on a new key, you can just easily bypass the system. It’s similar to the matter of how to unlock car door without a key in case you’ve lost your car key.

Bypassing the PATS system is a quick solution if you’ve lost your key. The entire process is quite simple, and you can do it in a very short time.

Cons of bypassing the Ford PATS system

In the end, bypassing the PATS system is just a temporary fix. You’ll still have to get a more permanent solution. When you bypass Ford’s security system, your car becomes vulnerable to theft.

Although the process is tricky, you can bypass Ford’s PATS system without a key. You can also disable your transponder without a key. The passive anti-theft system protects your car, and once you bypass it, your vehicle becomes a sitting duck waiting for thieves. In addition, bypassing the security system is only a temporary solution to your problem.

Ford PATs System Troubleshooting & How-to Guide

The Ford Passive Anti-Theft System is one of the most secure car protection features to have been introduced. Since its inception is has become a standard feature in all Ford vehicles as well as other brands. It makes it impossible for your car to start up without the PATS key. However, once in a while, the feature can become buggy, making it impossible to get into your vehicle.

This comprehensive drive teaches you how to use the feature and helps you solve any problems you may face while using the PATs system.

How does the system work?

The PATS keys have a radio frequency transponder embedded in the key fob with a unique electronic identification code. When you turn on your car, the vehicle’s onboard computer sends out a Radio Frequency (RF) signal, which is picked up by the transponder in the key.

The key’s transponder sends back a unique RF signal to the vehicle’s computer. This confirms that the key in use is the correct one, and the car can then startup. If the car’s onboard computer does not receive the proper identification code from the key, the car’s PATS system will prompt a reactionary response. Such as the fuel pump being disabled or the engine becoming immobilized.

How do I reset my Ford PATS system?

If someone attempts to start the vehicle with anything other than the PATS key programmed to that specific vehicle, the PATS system will get triggered. This will cause a red light on the dash to begin flashing faster than usual. The car will remain in this mode until either the proper key is used or 15 minutes have passed.

If neither of the actions above happens, the Securilock engine immobilizer will activate within the time frame, causing your car to be rendered immovable. After this happens, you may need to reset the system if the system does not return to normal after using your PATs key to turn on your car.

Follow the steps to reset the Ford PATS system;

  • Insert the PATs key into the ignition and turn it.
  • Wait 15 minutes until you see the flashing rate on the red light on your dashboard decrease to normal speed, and then try both keys again.
  • If this fails to start the vehicle, raise the hood, disconnect the battery for 15 minutes, reconnect it, and try again.

How to disable the Ford PATS system

If your PATS system is malfunctioning, it may go off even when there is no potential car theft happening. This may cause it to start flashing or immobilize the engine. In this case, you need to disengage the system to drive your car. Here are the three main ways of disabling the PATS system;

Using the Key and The Car Door

Start by inserting the key in the car door on the driver’s side. Then turn the key to unlock the system, but do not take the keys out. Let the key stay in the keyhole for at least 20-30 seconds. This lets the system pick up the key’s RF signal and disengage the PATs system. You can also wiggle the key to engage the signal.

Using the Key and Cylinder Scrutiny

Ensure the key fob has a charged or working battery. A dead battery will not provide the key with the power needed to disable the PATs alarm system. Replace the dead battery and repeat the disabling process. Then check the car door lock cylinder to see if it has been tampered with and fixed.

Getting The Vehicle Started

To start your cars after the engine has been immobilized, insert your key into the ignition and leave the key there for at least 10-15 minutes. This will reset the system and mobilize your engine. Check to see if the dashboard anti-theft light has faded or turned blue. It should turn off once the system is disengaged.

Then turn off the key and wait for 2-3 minutes before starting the car again. It may take several tries before the car’s PATS system is disengaged. If it does not work after multiple attempts, you may need to get your vehicle towed to a car shop for professional help.

Can you bypass the PATS system?

Yes. You can bypass the Ford Anti-Theft System. To bypass the PATS system, follow the following steps;

  • Ensure all the doors are closed.
  • Then turn off the ignition of the automobile.
  • Insert the key into the ignition and turn to the “On” position.
  • Press the power button three times and turn off the ignition.
  • Then press the power door to unlock the button three more times.
  • Finally, turn the key back on.

How do I reprogram my Ford PATS key?

Programming PATS keys is necessary when you lose a key or need to make a spare key. However, you can only program two keys at a time. As such, always program an extra for emergencies before programming a new set of PATS keys.

Steps to program new PATS keys;

  • You need two original keys to complete the program. Buy a New PATS key from your local dealer and have it cut to match your original key.
  • Insert one of the original keys into the ignition.
  • Turn the ignition cylinder ON (RUN) for three seconds, then turn it back to OFF.
  • Wait ten seconds, then remove the first original key and insert the second original key.
  • Then turn to ON (RUN) the second key, leave it on for three seconds, and then turn it back to OFF.
  • Wait ten more seconds, then insert the new key and turn to ON for three seconds, then turn back to OFF.
  • Once the programming is complete, the “security” light on the dash will illuminate three seconds.
  • Repeat this process for any additional keys.

Note: ensure the blank key used is compatible with your car’s computer transponder before starting the programming process. You should also check to see if the key is blank to avoid a programming fail.

How to program an additional key using the Snap-on Software

You will need a Snap-on diagnostic tool and software (only applies for 2010 car models and beyond). Older car models can be programmed to relearn without the software.

For newer car models, follow these steps;

  • Connect the scan tool to the vehicle and after identification is complete.
  • Select the anti-theft pat system.
  • Go to functional tests> Security Access.
  • You will get a message stating that the PCM controls the anti-theft functions on this vehicle and that Ford anti-theft systems are referred to as PATS – Passive Anti-Theft System.
  • You will also be instructed to wait ten minutes for security access to be granted for you to carry out the programming process.
  • Once the ten-minute period is over, you will be presented with several options:
  • Customer Spare Key Programming Enable
  • Customer Spare Key Programming Disable
  • Erase All Keys
  • Number of Keys Programmed
  • Program Additional Ignition Key
  • Unlimited Key Mode
  • Choose “Program Additional Ignition Key.”
  • Place the un-programmed key into the vehicle’s ignition and then press Continue.
  • The operation only takes a few seconds to complete and must be repeated with at least one additional key.
  • When you click on the “Number of Keys Programmed” box, the number of programmed keys will be displayed.
  • Start the vehicle with the newly programmed key to verify that it works correctly.
Note: The scan tool says that the procedure will program ignition keys equipped with appropriate transponder chips to the PATS system. Ensure you have make sure that the keys you program is right for the vehicle.

How do you test a Ford PATS key?

You need to ensure the Ford PATS key is blank before programming it, or else your reprogramming will not be successful. Follow the steps below to check if the PATS key is blank using FORScan;

  • Insert the blank key in the ignition lock.
  • Then find the module where PATS is located in the FORScan app.
  • Go to the Service tab and look for the module that has the PATS programming function. The location varies on the car model; you may find it at the PCM, PATS, IC, or HEC, etc.
  • Read the DTC for the PATS module in the Errors section – for newer car models with CAN bus. For the older car models, run the PATS module self-test in the Tests section.
  • The DTC codes displayed include;
  • B1601 code (B10D7:51 for new PATS), your blank key can be programmed for your vehicle.
  • B1600 code (B10D7:87 for new PATS), the PATS system couldn’t recognize your blank key and is not compatible with your vehicle.
  • B1602 code (sometimes simultaneously with B1600, B1601) (B10D7:8F for new PATS), the PATS system cannot get a stable reading of your key transponder. This often happens with clones. Try switching the transponder to another place of the key fob. Replace the transponder if it still won’t work.
  • B2431 code, Transponder Programming Failed.
  • B1600 or the B1601 codes, the key you are using is already programmed in the PCM.
  • Contact customer support if the test displays a different code.
Note: You will need a reliable OBD2 adapter to check the blank PATS key using FORScan. Note: For FORScan coding modifications, we recommend using the OBD2 USB adapter to provide a more stable connection.

Ford PATS system not detecting my key

The inability to unlock or lock your car can be highly stressful. Not to worry, the solution is easier than you think. Here are common reasons why your vehicle cannot detect your key fob;

  • The battery inside the remote is dead.
  • The key fob is broken or no longer programmed to your car.
  • The car battery is low.
  • The keyless operation system is faulty.

If the key fob has a low battery, replace the battery and check to see if it works. If this does not work, use your spare key to open the car or start the car. Or you can use your physical backup key. However, newer car models with a push-button start do not use a physical key.

In this instance, locate the hidden slot near the steering column and press the start button with the key. Your car may still be able to detect the dead key fob in case of emergencies.  In some cases, all you need to do is warm up the key, as extreme weather can mess up the computer chip.

Ford PATS relearn procedure.

The relearn procedure helps to put the car in learn mode. The PATS relearn process is mandatory after replacing the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

Before attempting a PATS relearn, the replacement PCM must be calibrated to current vehicle specifications. The Flash2 All-Makes Reprogrammer can be used for this purpose. In addition to flashing, Vehicle Identification Block programming may be required for some applications.

Replacing PCM only — A or D type PATS

If only the PCM is being replaced on a PATS control function type A or D vehicle, no relearn is required (please refer to the Ford PATS chart to determine PATS type). Put the original key in the ignition, turn to ON or RUN and wait for 20 seconds. Then turn the key off and start the vehicle.

Replacing PCM only — B, C, F, or G type PATS

If only the PCM is being replaced on a PATS control function type B, C, F, or G vehicle, you must perform the Parameter Reset function. This requires a scan tool with the Parameter Reset function or the J2534 CARDONE Flash2 All-Makes Reprogrammer with a Ford license and a subscription to Ford Module Programming (FMP).

The tool and software used will give specific instructions to follow. The general steps are listed below.

  • Cycle a key in the ignition to RUN
  • Enter Security Access on the PATS control function module. For type B, it will be the PATS module, for type C, the Instrument Cluster, for type F, the PCM, for type G, the Instrument Cluster Module. (This takes 10 minutes).
  • Select “Parameter Reset” and exit Security Access.
  • Select a PCM Keep Alive Memory (KAM) reset.
  • Start vehicle.

Check this too: Ford F250 Power Window Troubleshooting

Replacing PCM only — E type PATS.

If the PCM is being replaced on a PATS control function type E vehicle, two keys need to be programmed into the PCM. This requires a scan tool with the capability to program PATS type E keys or a CARDONE Flash2 All-Makes Reprogrammer with Ford license and subscription to www.motorcraftservice.com. The tool and software used will give specific instructions to follow. The general steps are listed below.

  • Cycle key 1 to RUN
  • Enter Security Access on PATS control function module. (This takes 10 minutes).
  • Select “Ignition Key Code Erase.”
  • Disconnect the tool and leave the key in RUN position for 20 seconds
  • Cycle key 1 to OFF, then RUN, and back to OFF.
  • Cycle key 2 to RUN, then OFF.
  • Start the car.

Note: Identify the type of security system your application may or may not have before replacing the PCM. This will prevent the disappointment of a no-start after the replacement PCM is installed. Refer to the Ford PATS Guide for detailed relearn procedures.

Can I bypass the PATS security????

  • Add to quote

I need to bypass the PATS security system on my 02 Excursion. It was stolen and I need to get it running to drive it to the dealership. I am trying to avoid paying for the tow. Chris

2000 ford excursion pats bypass

I currently need to know this info as well. Craig

2000 ford excursion pats bypass

I don't think it can be bypassed. Do you have keys for it?

I do have the keys. I was told I can install a aftermarket security alarm with remote start and it will bypass the PATS system.

If you have the original keys, I don't understand why it won't start. The aftermarket alarm and remote start wires into the PATS system to allow it to work.

2000 ford excursion pats bypass

cant bypass the pats system, i dont understand if you have the original keys why it wont start , may be another problem

Tryin to steal it? repo? whats the angle? Or..its broken.

2000 ford excursion pats bypass

remote start will bypass the pats system BUT it takes another module that is seperate from the alarm. See if a stereo shop has a module and try that. if it doesnt work alone you will need it anyway for remote start. 556S Ford PATS Remote Start Interface Module different ones for different years

How will an aftermarket remote start work with the glow plugs??? Do they set the delay longer? Is there something special in the key, I have an '02 Excursion 7.3L I just bought and made a key copy for the wife at Wal-Mart...will it not work?

You have to get a key with the chip in it and it has to be programmed. If you have 2 original keys that work you can program the new key yourself. If you only have one key it has to be programmed by the dealer.

2000 ford excursion pats bypass

i have a spare PATS module i got with my code alarm and i dindnt end up needing it if u want it for $20 plus shipping...

On the Superduty it was an option that most dealers didnt bother to order. Dealers arent the only people that can make new keys either. A locksmith can make them. I did them all day long when I was still out on the road. In fact I had to make a few for some dealers when they couldnt figure out what they were doing wrong.:hehe: How did they steal your X. I thought the pats would stop if from being stolen?

I agree that you can have PATS keys made other places, but unless you have two working PATS keys already you can't program the new ones. Has to be done with the Ford scan tool.

I spoke with ford yesterday and they said if the theft light is flashing fast, it is the PATS system not recognizing the key. The PATS reader that the key goes into is busted up so it will not read the key. There is no angle to this. I bought this truck as a theft recovery from a dealer only auction and I am trying to get it started. I really do not understand how the truck was stolen without the keys in the first place. There is no way to get it started without them, so why would a theif pick the ignition if he has the keys. A aftermarket alarm with remote start has a delay that can be programed for a diesel wait light.

Thanks Jason, This is the answer I was looking for. I think I will try the remote start alarm. It costs $300 installed at my home. This is the same cost as towing the truck ($100) plus diagnosis ($200) at Ford. Then they will tell me what it needs. I already know what it needs. I like the idea of having remote start and the ability to roll up or down my windows without going to my X to do it. The only bad thing is without the PATS it is easier to steal. Chris

Thats really cheap. id get it in writing first so no suprises when you pick it up. i know for a fact that it takes 2 modules on top of the alarm brain to make it work for a ford.

Got it done at Ford anyway. They changed the module, pats key reader, broken column parts and damaged plastic covers for only $505.00 They reused my keys and rekeyed a ignition cylinder. Sometimes I can't beleive how lucky I can get. Chris

How to Bypass Ford Pats System without a Key; A Tested Way

A pats system is a vehicle security system that automatically detects whether you have the original key to start up the engine or some cheap key from Walmart. Pats is a short form for Passive Anti-Theft Systems. Another name for the Pats is also the Ford Securilock.

Pats works where when the key to start a vehicle is put on, there is a theft warning light that lights up for a short while. At each start, the Powertrain Control Module powers the fuel pump and injectors until the engine runs, and that’s when the PATS determines whether the key used is valid. When turning off the PATS, turning on the key and holding the button the box in until it is off.

Steps on how to bypass the ford pats system without the key

bypass ford pats without key

One should follow steps when bypassing the ford pats system without a key that may result from losing the key. The steps are temporary and not permanent since bypassing is not suitable for a vehicle’s safety from vehicle theft that might happen. After bypassing the ford pats system, the vehicle owner gets a new transponder key to ensure good security again in the system. The following are steps are for bypassing the ford pats system:

a)   Requirements one will need for bypassing

When bypassing a ford pats system, some tools are used in the process, such as a screwdriver . Secondly, the owner has to get new keys that are cut to match the original key. After removing the original key, the transponder requires tape to suspend it.

b)   Visiting a dealer to cut the key.

Cutting the key is the second step where the vehicle owner visits the dealer for cutting. Doing this helps the new key to match the original key. After this, the new key matching the original key works in place of the starting point and running the vehicle. This new key acts as a tool to trick the machine into thinking that the original key is used to start the machine.

c) Remove the transponder chip

Taking out the chip from the transponder is a way of being confident with the new keys. This chip is helping deceive the vehicle that the key used is the original key so that the owner can have access to the vehicle. Several steps that one is to follow when removing the chip include;

i. Obtain the screwdriver that is flattened and a small square at the top side of the key

ii. Enter into the vehicle with the screwdriver

iii. Get out the key gently without force to avoid damage to the parts of the machine.

iv. Then lastly, remove the chip transponder from the key with the help of the screwdriver.

d)   Bypass the Pats System

After removing the transponder that can realize the key in use, bypassing the pats is easy to do. When putting in the new keys, the transponder believes the key in use is original. Setting the transponder is easy by using tapes to swing the transponder when starting and putting the chip in the right place for easy reading by the vehicle. Then put the new key to the engine to start the vehicle and finally turn the key to confirm whether the key can start the vehicle or not while checking the chip until the key works as expected.

Advantages of bypassing ford pats system

Advantages of bypassing ford pats system

By bypassing the ford pats system, one is to get some benefits in it in many ways as follows:

  • Saves money

In case of an emergency, bypassing helps save money to buy a new transponder key for the vehicle. It also saves money in a case where professionals are not of much importance for the action and one does not require many things that are hard to find to finish the process.

  • Time-consuming

It is time-consuming since one does not need to access many things to get the service and can be done by the vehicle owner.

  • Easy to work with

Bypassing does not need explicit knowledge but just tacit knowledge and a few ideas on the vehicle’s parts to perform the act.

Disadvantages of bypassing ford pats system

Bypassing the ford pats system destroys the vehicle’s security since the transponder chip is not active and hence may face theft issues. Therefore, recommendations are that avoid disabling the transponder chip in the pats system.

Frequently asked questions:

  • What shows that a particular vehicle has a pats system?

A key that does not respond to the transponder tells well if a particular vehicle is having a Ford pats system or not. The theft light shows some light that quickly shows the vehicle has a Ford pats system.

  • Is anyone capable of bypassing the pats system?

Not only professionals can bypass the pats system, but also normal humans can do so. The only requirement is the transponder key used to deceive the system so that it believes that there is no theft-taking place in the vehicle. The transponder is just for help in removing the chip so that any key can match the original key to run the vehicle.

  • What are the ways that the Ford pats system works?

The Ford pats system works with a series of steps as the chip is in the first step since it informs the system the original key is the one in the transponder for starting the vehicle. Secondly, the system interprets the chip, which is where the system confirms that the key used is correct, and hence the vehicle starts to run.

Although bypassing the ford pats system also has some drawbacks, the vehicle’s security may be poor if one forgets to follow the steps accurately. It helps people who lose their keys quickly get access to their vehicles. It is also helpful as it aids the owner in not spending much cash on buying a new transponder key for the vehicle.

Therefore, the above information has shown the steps to follow if there is a problem with the keys. Disabling the transponder too is time-consuming as it is the easiest of all, and one can do so without the help of some professionals. Bypassing the ford Pats system needs time for one to know and does not need technical knowledge.

Ford PATS Antitheft System

How the ford pats antitheft system works, ford pats overview.

Ford PATS Passive Antitheft System uses a key with a transponder in the head of the key. Each transponder is coded with a unique identifying code made from a possible 18 billion combinations. It’s a passive system because it doesn’t require any input from the driver. Ford has also referred to their PATS system as SecuriLock.

The second portion of the system is a PATS

FORD PATS transceiver

FORD PATS transceiver

transceiver module. The PATS module communicates Generates an “exciter” field that powers the chip in the key, which then transmits encoded data back to the transceiver. The key contains a spool of wire that converts the “field” to power to run the chip, so the key never needs battery replacement. The transceiver then communicates with the PATS module.

Where is the PATS module?

Over the years, Ford has located the PATS module in different places;

• In some vehicles, it’s built into the instrument cluster • On some models it’s a separate module. • On some late model vehicles, the PATS module is located behind the steering column shroud and contains an antenna connected to a small electronics module.

As you turn the key to the RUN or START position, the PATS control module initiates the key interrogation routine. The PATS transceiver is mounted on the ignition lock cylinder housing and is connected to the PATS control module. The transceiver energizes the transponder key electronics through the key’s circular antenna. The PATS transceiver receives data from the control module through the transmit Tx signal. The transceiver sends the key code to the control module through the receive Rx signal.

The key code data is stored in the PATS control module. The PATS control module compares the received key code and validates or rejects the key code. If the key code is correct, the PATS control module sends a signal to the PCM to enable the fuel pump and injectors.

During this period, the PATS security warning light is illuminated. If the key code does not prove out or there is a fault with the system, the PATS warning light will either stay light or flash.

These faults will disable the vehicle from starting

• incorrectly encoded ignition key • damaged encoded ignition key • unprogrammed key • non-encoded key (key has no electronics) • damaged wiring • damaged transceiver • damaged PCM

PATS Variations

Like any electronic system, Ford has gone through several variations on the PATS system. There are five variations of PATS in use on Ford vehicles. Systems are identified as types A, B, C, D, E, F and G .

Ford PATS types

Ford PATS types

PATS System A

The PATS control is a stand alone module. When you turn the key to RUN/START, the theft warning light turns on for 2-seconds. Only 1 key needs to be programmed for the system to work. Up to 16 keys can be programmed.

The transceiver sends the key code signal via a hardwired connection to the control module.

At each start sequence, the PCM power the fuel pump and injectors until the engine runs for 1 second. Within that 1 second period, the PATS Control Module must determines if the key code is valid. If it is, the control module sends a validation signal to the PCM via the Vehicle Communication Network (SCP). The PCM then allow the fuel pump and injectors.

Some vehicles also include a starter relay. If the key code is valid, the PATS control module also grounds the control coil in the starter relay, which moves the contacts and sends power to the starter motor solenoid

PATS System B

Same as System A but:

Must have two programmed keys in the control module to allow vehicle starting. Only accepts 8 programmed keys.

PATS System C

Same as System B but:

The PATS control module is NOT a standalone module. It is built into the instrument cluster.

PATS System D

The PATS control module is a standalone module located behind the dash on the left side.

PATS System E

The PATS control module built into the PCM.

The PATS control module in the PCM provides ground to the starter relay and enables the fuel pump and injectors.

PATS activation signs

PATS Symptoms

The PATS system isn’t working properly if:

You see a rapidly flashing theft indicator with ignition on

Start and stall, within 1 second

Cranks but won’t start

These are NOT symptoms of a PATS problem

If the vehicle runs for more than 1 second, then stalls, it is not a PATS issue.

PATS cannot cause a running vehicle to stall.

Alarm goes off – PATS is completely independent from the perimeter alarm system.

Remote Keyless Entry – PATS is completely independent from the RKE system.

No-crank on a PTS vehicle without starter disable. Check the vehicle list for the presence of starter interrupt.

WARNING: Items such as foil stickers, brass key tags, other PATS keys, other

transponders used to purchase gasoline or other metallic objects can cause

interference with the PATS key.

Erasing and reprogramming ignition keys does not cure any known

intermittent PATS no-start issues. Do not reprogram keys if a fault cannot be

identified. Reprogramming the PCM does not have any impact on PATS operation.

Repairing a PATS system

Every day in every auto forum I see people asking how to bypass a Ford PATS system. I just shake my head because fixing a PATS system is NOT difficult and you’ll probably spend more on a bypass kit than it’ll cost to just fix it properly. There are only two parts to the system as shown above: transceiver and control module. A new transceiver costs about $50. If your control module is bad, you can buy a new one from Ford for about $175 or buy a rebuild unit for about $40. Yes, you’ll have to pay a shop to program but you’ve got a full fix for maybe $250 all in and you don’t have to jury rig it.

Start by reading the PATS trouble codes

Most of the PATS trouble codes are body “B” or data “U” type codes. You must have a code reader that can read these codes. Repairing a PATS system is NOT hard.

B1213 Less than 2 (or 3 if equipped w/Valet key) keys programmed to the system. B1232/B2103 Transceiver internal antenna damaged. Replace transceiver. B1342 ECU is defective (EEPROM in PCM is not working — replace PCM). PATS related when stored in PCM only. B1600 Non-PATS Key or damaged key. B1601 Unprogrammed encoded ignition key detected (leave ignition on for 20 seconds before trying a programmed key, in Anti-Scan Mode). B1602 Partial detection of encoded ignition key. B1681 Transceiver signal not detected. B2141 Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) configuration failure — No PCM ID stored in PATS. B2139/U2510 PCM ID does not match between the PCM and PATS control (PATS/ICM/VIC/HEC/SCIL). B2431 Key program failure (defective key or transceiver). U1147/U1262 Communications issue, SCP (J1850), between PCM and PATS control (PATS/ICM/VIC/HEC/SCIL). U1900/U0100 Communications issue, CAN (J2284), between PCM and PATS control (ICM). U2511/B2009/P1260 PCM disabled the vehicle because of a PATS concern. Retrieve DTCs from applicable PATS control function (PATS/ICM/VIC/HEC/SCIL).

PATS Bypass

I get lots of requests for instruction on how to do a PATS Bypass. Let’s get right to the point; if you have a problem with the transceiver or key, it’s easier and cheaper to replace those parts than to pursue a PATS bypass. Yes, you might need some reprogramming, but most shops and auto locksmiths can do that kind of work these days.

The real problem come in when the PATS module has failed and you can’t find replacement parts. Then you have two options.

• Send the PATS module in to a rebuilder

• Pay a company to perform a PATS delete. In that case you most likely have to send your PCM into the company to have them alter the software so it no longer looks for a PATS signal.

If that’s what you’re looking for, contact ECUConnection.com.

The Bolshoi Theatre is the oldest, the most famous and popular opera and ballet theatre in Russia. The word “Bolshoi” means “big” in Russian. You can buy a ticket online in advance, 2-3 months before the date of performance on the official website . Prices for famous ballets are high: 6-8 thousand rubles for a seat in stalls. Tickets to operas are cheaper: you can get a good seat for 4-5 thousand rubles. Tickets are cheaper for daytime performances and performances on the New Stage. The New Stage is situated in the light-green building to the left of the Bolshoi's main building. The quality of operas and ballets shown on the New Stage is excellent too. However, you should pay attention that many seats of the Bolshoi’s Old and New Stages have limited visibility . If you want to see the Bolshoi’s Old Stage but all tickets are sold out, you can order a tour of the theatre. You can book such a tour on the official website.

If you want, following Russian tradition, to give flowers to the performers at the end of the show, in the Bolshoi flowers should be presented via special staff who collects these flowers in advance.
