Accra TZ5, TZ6 shafts incorporate average golfer benefits that elite players are taking advantage of, too

TZ5TZ6.jpg

The new Accra TZ5 and TZ6 shafts might be resonating with some tour players, but it’s average players who might be the inspiration and the beneficiary of these new models.

That’s a fundamental change with the trend in shafts on tour, particularly when it comes to the responsive-tip TZ6, said Gawain Robertson, co-owner and founder of PGMC/Accra. Each new shaft features the wide range of weights and flex variations Accra has been known for in its line that exclusively services the clubfitting community. But each, to a degree, implement softened sections that put an emphasis on feel.

The TZ5 is what Robertson called “the evolution” of the typical design of a shaft played by tour players. It features a lower launch with a slightly softer butt and mid-section combined with a very stiff tip section, obviously aimed at very high-speed players trying to control their tee shots with lower spin. Meanwhile, the TZ6 offers a non-traditional approach that has resonated with some fast-swinging tour players in the same way it will work for average golfers. What’s noticeable is that its tip section is more responsive than the typical stout tour player shaft. The design goal was an unusual and difficult pursuit, a “crazy design idea” Robertson said.

“We just said, let’s make the tip as soft as possible and the torque as low as possible,” he said. “That tip is softer than some of our lightweight shafts. And now tour players are using it.”

That group of tour players has included big hitters Cameron Champ, Jason Day and Pat Perez over the last year, but the idea not only grew from Accra’s willingness to experiment, but from seeing how average golfers were improving distance and flight with softer-tipped shafts. Could faster swingers see the same benefits? TZ6 actually works in different ways for average golfers and tour players to produce the same benefits of higher launch and a more stable flight, Robertson said.

“It’s a bit of a chameleon,” he said. “In the softer flexes, the TZ6 is for the person that needs some help getting the ball in the air, but as you get to stiffer flexes, the torque starts dropping and it becomes more of a players shaft.

“So it sort of transitions from a shaft that helps the average guy get the ball in the air to a shaft that helps a tour guy get the ball in the air with low spin.”

The TZ5 is available in 60- through 90-gram driver shaft weights, as well as 95-gram hybrid options. The TZ6 is available in 50- through 90-gram driver shaft options, as well as 85-gram hybrid options.

ACCRA Tour Z RPG and Tour Z RPG Tour Shafts Review

James Miles

The ACCRA name is one synonymous with not just quality, but immense fitting versatility. With their RPG, Tour Z, and FX lineups (not to mention all of the iron shaft options) they have a breadth that high end fitters love with seemingly endless fine tuning possible.

While the TZ5 and TZ6 shafts are still very much continuing their trend of popularity for golfers across the spectrum, 2021 marks the introduction of two new shafts into their arsenal. Both the ACCRA Tour Z RPG and Tour Z RPG Tour look to take things to a new level in quality, materials, and of course performance. We wanted to take a little dive into what ACCRA is up to, with a specific focus on the Tour Gold. Read on for more.

ACCRA Tour Z RPG

While the TZ5 and TZ6 continue to be incredibly popular both on Tour as well as through fitting centers everywhere, ACCRA refuses to be stagnant. The new Tour Z RPG and Tour Z RPG Tour broaden the lineup to become even more of a fitter’s dream. The Tour Gold in particular will put golfers on notice of just what a stout shaft can be, but with all the stiffness it refuses to sacrifice feel. ACCRA has given golfers another option very much worth taking a closer look at.

Before we get directly into the two new shafts, I think it is pertinent to discuss ACCRA as a whole. While they are certainly well-known in a segment of golfers who have been to fitters across the globe, we have to realize that to some the name may not be as easily recognizable. So how about a quick hitter to break it down?

ACCRA has been in the shaft industry since 2004, and from the start they have been singularly focused on the role that fitting plays for golfers of all skill levels and have continued to really dial into that market.  If you have been to a fitting center with a “shaft wall”, you have seen ACCRA shafts. Not only has the company done well with their intense R&D and attention to fitting, but they have also continued to blossom.

In 2019 it was announced that ACCRA had been acquired by TRUE Sports, the mother company of other shaft brands like True Temper and Project X. Initially, there was some concern of what would happen to the brand and if they would be moved and altered. Well, TRUE was way more intelligent than that as ACCRA hits a fitting center niche which really rounds out the lineup, so with the full force of TT/PX manufacturing and additional R&D sources at their disposal, it has opened up a world of possibilities for ACCRA to continue to do their thing with more resources behind them. That is part of what makes this release of the new TZ RPG lines so interesting to a golf nerd like me, it’s almost like an unveiling of a whole new realm of performance.

ACCRA Tour Z RPG and RPG Tour

Before diving into what I saw with the TZ RPG Tour, I want to take a closer look at the designs of the two new shafts from ACCRA.

The TZ RPG is all about energy and what can be done both in design and materials to maximize that and offer golfers more performance. Using top of the line materials from Toray, Japan, the high modulus materials are applied utilizing a new five directional weave with very low resin usage to increase both feel and stability. The design specifically seeks to promote the golfers ability to load the shaft in the hands while maintaining recovery and retention through the rest of the design. But maybe the biggest point of interest is that each model of the TZ RPG has a standard and “H” designated option, with the “H” meaning high balance point. While having those options aren’t new to any company, having them in identically designed shaft profiles is only being done here by ACCRA. It’s a new frontier.

ACCRA Tour Z RPG shaft

The Tour Z RPG is available in three different models: 352 (58g in M3 and 59g in M4), 362 (68g in M4 and 69g in M5), and 372 (76g in M5). For those unfamiliar, the M-numbers represent flex for ACCRA, with M3 being similar to R and M5 more like X. These are finished out with a couple of black and chrome silver finishes that really pop.

ACCRA Tour Z RPG review

On the other end of the spectrum is the Tour Z RPG Tour, which is being lovingly referred to by the company as “RPG Gold” both referring to its jaw dropping gold finish as well as being the “gold standard” of ACCRA wood shafts. High accolades for the new design, and this beast definitely deserves it, more on that soon.

ACCRA Tour Z RPG tour shaft

The ACCRA TZ RPG Tour is available only in M5+, basically Tour X, and comes in two models, the 462 (67g) and 472 (75g) and is the company’s new low-launch low-spin behemoth. It is all about stronger swingers who demand stability and power, but without sacrificing feel. The design is “torque optimized” and comes in at 3.3° with the sole purpose of keeping that feel while using 10 of the most advanced materials from Toray, Japan with aerospace grade carbon fiber and their new five directional weave with the lowest resin to graphite ratio  ever  in  any  ACCRA shaft. This one is all there, and it’s the specific model THP was able to get in-hand and I worked with for this article.

Going for Gold

I was able to work with the Tour Z RPG Tour 462 M5+ and for full clarity it was paired with a Cobra RadSpeed driver playing at 45” for this review. Immediately, this is a stunner from the moment it was unboxed to the time I got it out on the course in the sunlight; this thing is absolutely killer. You want a conversation starter? The TZ RPG Tour is that and then some. With the reflective gold on half of the shaft and deep gloss black on the rest it looks mean…which was fitting, because on the course, it absolutely backed up that look.

ACCRA Tour Z RPG Tour review

I knew this one would be stout coming in, but it took me aback at times with both how unyieldingly stable it was while also not feeling intimidating like I have experienced with some of the other beefy shaft designs over the years. While I know everyone loves data, some technical hiccups is preventing a full graphical layout from the Foresight GC2, but I still have the averages. Over the course of 50 recorded swings (no, not in one session, I’m not crazy) I saw the following  averages : 157 MPH Ball-Speed, 11.2° Launch, 1948 RPM, 30Y Peak-Height.

ACCRA Tour Z RPG Gold Finish

Yes, this equated to a rather mid-ball flight for me, and on a very flat trajectory that is the definition of the clichéd word piercing. Now, with this I actually saw impressive accuracy overall even in a head that is a little more fade-biased than I personally prefer. The key to the story here was a repetitive flight showing that connectiveness that ACCRA is touting. It is also worth noting that though it felt like a lot to handle, it was also mysteriously comfortable. I will say, this one isn’t going to be for the faint of heart and I’ve no doubt that the Tour Z RPG will most likely be the shaft fitting experts select for us mere mortals.

accra shafts on tour

Undoubtedly, these two new shafts from ACCRA are going to be just as popular as their predecessors remain to this day, and maybe even more so. If you find yourself in an ACCRA certified fitting center, give them a swing and let us know what you think either below or on the THP Community ! ACCRA iCWT 95 Graphite Iron Shaft Review

More in reviews:.

Tour Edge Hot Launch C524 E524 Irons

50 Words or Less

The ACCRA iCWT 95 graphite iron shafts offer excellent performance and the consistent feel throughout your set that constant weight shafts provide.  When your playing partners notice the simple matte black finish and see you hitting more greens they’ll be asking, “Hey what are those?”

Introduction

ACCRA is one of those brands not every golfer has heard of because their shafts are not available in irons or drivers straight from manufacturers.  Focusing on shaft performance for the high-end aftermarket , ACCRA has become a standard offering for professional club fitters around the world.  In addition to being found in more and more recreational golfers’ bags, ACCRA shafts are increasingly being used by tour players – the real mark of success in the golf industry.

To broaden its iSeries line of iron shafts, ACCRA Golf created the iCWT Prototype to offer a constant weighting product.  The ACCRA iCWT 95 shafts come in discrete lengths that each weigh, as you may have guessed, 95 grams.  The ACCRA iCWT Prototype is engineered using high modulus composite materials to ensure consistent performance.  And to ensure they meet their stringent manufacturing specifications, ACCRA employs a machine they call S3 (Shaft Simulation System) for state of the art quality control.

The ACCRA iCWT 95 shafts have a wonderful, distinctive matte black finish .  Branding is limited to a couple of simple silver bands.  The prototype designation makes you feel like you’ve landed some exclusive gear.  And to add to the cool factor, you can have your shafts personally engraved.  There are other simple black shafts out there, but the matte finish really makes the iCWT stand apart.

The first thing I noticed with the ACCRA iCWT 95 in my irons was the overall weight.  Coming off 110 gram steel shafts in my gamers, the irons had a pleasant, lighter feel .  And more remarkable was the instant clarity on where the head was during the swing.  Both those factors had me swinging more easily.  The more balls I hit, the more comfortable my swing felt which quickly translated to better shots.  And to confirm a commonly touted attribute of graphite – yes, vibrations in your hands are definitely lessened.

Performance

Looks and feel are important, but performance is what we’re all after at the end of the day.  The ACCRA iCWT shafts are advertised as mid-launch and mid-spin , and I found them to be just that.  Launch angle was similar to my steel shafts, but the apex was higher and they were carrying further .  A great example is a lake-fronted par 3 at my home course on which I’d routinely been hitting 5 iron.  If I didn’t catch the very front of the green, my ball would inevitably run off the back and down a swale, setting up for a difficult up and down.  With the ACCRA iCWT 95 , I’m now hitting 6 iron and sticking the landing.

At Club Champion here in Orlando, master club fitter Rob Stumpf checked out the numbers on Trackman and confirmed my field observations.  To my surprise, the decrease in shaft weight had not increased my swing speed.   The boost I had observed was the result of increased ball speed which equated to higher trajectory and longer carry .  With the great feel discussed above, I have a strong hunch that my swing speed could be improved with a little more time in the ACCRA iCWT 95 shafts.

The ACCRA iCWT Prototype 95 should definitely be given consideration by any golfer contemplating new shafts in the mid-launch category.   The ACCRA iCWT 95 allowed me to swing rhythmically with an increase in performance.  The results are so good, I’ve given them permanent residence in my set.    It was an eye-opener to learn that shafts properly fit four years ago weren’t the best for me now.  It’s a reminder that not only does shaft technology get better but that your swing can change with time.  Even if you aren’t looking for a shaft change or buying new irons, my experience at Club Champion tells me you might find it worthwhile to go through a proper fitting just to check your current performance numbers.

Wondering how these would compare with the Recoil 95?

' src=

Thanks for reading the review Wally. I don’t have any hands on experience with the UST Recoil 95 shafts, but please note those are not constant weight. Feel will be different than the Accra iCWT 95s.

Thanks for the reply Matt: What are the advantages on a constant weight vs a shaft like the recoil? With the recoil the weight increases as the torque decreases, with the ICWT 95, everything is constant. I can see these shafts in a nice smooth swing versus my fast swing.

It’s fantastic that you are delving into numbers and learning about all the dynamics involved in shafts. To give your question a proper response would be a feature article on it’s own. Regardless it emphasizes the need to engage a professional fitter in person to determine what is best for your swing. Being able to “talk” the fitters language will enhance your experience, so I applaud your knowledge quest.

Your final sentence is a perfect example of why it’s impossible to provide fitting advice on our site, and frankly on any site. To me Adam Scott has a smooth and fast swing. My guess is your fast equals quick. My fault is going quick at the top of the swing while others are jerky at the bottom.

Happy Masters Monday,

I am going to give these a try next time I change.

HOW WOULD IRONS WORK FOR A SENIOR PLAYER . CANNOT TELL BY THE WEIGHT.

I’m not quite sure what you are asking, but I’ll give it my best shot. The iCWT line from ACCRA is designed for irons. And lighter shafts often work well for senior players. But there’s a big difference between senior Gary Player and senior Steve Stricker and average senior Joe Smith. A fitter like Club Champion will allow you to try the shafts in whatever iron head you’d like. Fitting = Performance.

Keep swinging,

Hi , I’m a 50 y.o. 1 hcp player , I have always played steel shaft , from 130 to my last 105 grams . Accra cw 95 is my last discover, less effort more distance is the formula , they have changed my tempo , I have soft tipped the icw 105 for my 9 and pw irons to get more stability , because 9 was drawing too much . I suggest everyone to give a try working with a club fitter/maker.

How do these shaft compare to Steelfiber i95?

I don’t have any experience with the Steelfiber shafts Randy. Hit them both if you can and let us know your results.

i just bought used 0311 XF Gen II with Accra 80 i shaft. is Accra 80 i shaft graphite? is it reg flex?

thank you, tim

Yes, that is indeed a graphite shaft. But I can’t answer the flex question because ACCRA manufacturers the shaft such that the club fitter/builder can trim the shafts for desired flex.

' src=

I am a 68 year old senior player. I carry a 10 handicap, certified. I used a club fitter in Florida who is currently rebuilding my irons with Accra shafts. I picked up 20 yards a club with greater accuracy. I am truly impressed with this shaft and the club fitter. I would buy another set of irons without using a fitter.

Thanks for sharing Denny – Accra makes great shafts.

New Accra TZ5 and TZ6 shafts feature “lower spin results than ever before”

accra shafts on tour

Accra’s TZ5 and TZ6 Shafts proved to be very popular amongst our members when they were showcased on our forums earlier this year , and new details of the shafts have now been released, with the company putting an emphasis on the word “feel” when it comes to the new additions.

The TZ5 shaft features a smooth mid-section and lower balance point which aims to provide players with maximum feel, while its lower torque than its predecessors looks to decrease spin significantly. The shaft targets those possessing very high swing speeds who are looking to reduce spin for greater control.

The TZ6 shaft, described by the company as a “spin-killing machine,” features a mid to high launch, with a focus on its ultra-responsive tip section. The new shaft from Accra combines a 2.0 torque with a powerful tip section, and the company has stated that with feel in mind, the tip is softer than some of their lightweight shafts.

accra shafts on tour

With a higher launch and consistent flight a priority, Gawain Robertson, co-owner and founder of PGMC/Accra, stated

The shafts which are being gamed by high-profile Tour players like Cameron Champ, Jason Day and Tony Finau are available now. Accra’s TZ5 Shaft is available in 60-90 gram driver shaft weights and as a 95-gram hybrid option. The TZ6 comes in 50-90-gram driver shaft option weights and as an 85-gram hybrid option.

What are they made of, and how did they get the numbers? Another company who isn’t up front and honest about their materials and how they make them. And so we’re back to the the low-torque thing again are we, that companies like Aldila and Grafalloy had figured out a couple decades ago.

Masters gear roundup: limited-edition bags, balls, and more.

accra shafts on tour

The Masters in itself is a huge tradition in the world of golf, but it also brings its own traditions with it. One of the big ones for us golf equipment fans is the limited edition gear that is influenced by the season’s first major championship.

Around tournament time, companies big and small offer bags, balls, and accessories that are designed with the colors and history of the Masters Tournament.

Here is some of the gear that we will see this weekend out on the lush, green grass of Augusta.

The land Augusta National sits on was once a nursery. Callaway looks to be celebrating that history this year. Colorful flowers are used all over the side panels on the staff bag and on top of the headcovers. Callaway also did some limited edition Chrome Tour golf balls with azalea patterns.

accra shafts on tour

There might not be a green bag here for Mizuno, but they know how to celebrate the Masters! This year, Mizuno is offering Mizuno Pro 241 “Azalea” irons to a limited number of lucky customers. A new green iridescent finish is applied to the heads and some beautiful colored ferrules bring some floral color to the irons. If you are lucky enough to grab a set, you will be impressed by the green display box the irons come in as well!

accra shafts on tour

This year’s staff bag goes a little heavier on a metallic green color to pay homage to the first major of the year. If you look closely at the details, you will notice shiny gold accent pieces, a small Amen Corner, and an inner lining with Georgia peaches. The headcovers are made from matching metallic green fabric and feature “88th” embroidery for the number of Masters tournaments that have been played. TaylorMade’s TP5x Pix golf balls come in a case that looks, and feels, like a peach!

Srixon’s bag for the 2024 Masters goes heavy on green and white with a more simple and classic design on the outside. When you unzip the pockets you will treated to a hidden inner lining that has Georgia’s state fruit, the peach, printed all over. Heck, Srixon even included the pit! Headcovers are matching white and green but have a look that reminds you of the iconic Masters scoreboard.

Best irons in golf of 2024: Pure enjoyment

accra shafts on tour

In our effort to assemble the 2024 best irons , we have again compiled an expert panel of fitters to help you find out which of the 2024 irons is best for your game.

Ultimately the best way to find your personal best iron set is to work with a professional fitter using a launch monitor. The difficult part is a lot of people don’t have easy access to fitters, launch monitors, and club builders — so at GolfWRX, we have done a lot of the work for you.

accra shafts on tour

We want to give you the tools and information to go out and find what works best for you by offering recommendations for your individual iron set wants and needs with insight and feedback from the people who work every single day to help golfers get peak performance out of their equipment.

Best irons of 2024: The process

The best fitters in the world see all the options available in the marketplace, analyze their performance traits, and pull from that internal database of knowledge and experience like a supercomputer when they are working with a golfer.

It’s essentially a huge decision tree derived from experience and boiled down to a starting point of options—and it has nothing to do with a handicap!

Modern iron sets are designed into player categories that overlap the outdated “what’s your handicap?” model, and at GolfWRX we believe it was important to go beyond handicap and ask specific questions about the most crucial performance elements fitters are looking at.

These are the best iron categories we have developed to help you determine which category is most important for your swing and game.

Best irons of 2024: The categories

  • Overall performance
  • Easiest to launch/Slower swing speed
  • Pure enjoyment
  • Most technology-packed

2024 Best irons: Pure enjoyment

accra shafts on tour

We continue to see an overlap in the way fitters in this category define the top irons. The most playable irons are the most likely to be higher launching, and shots that fly higher make the game more enjoyable for everyone. This reiterates our belief that your iron selection should not be defined by your handicap but instead by what gives you the best opportunity to play your best — and most enjoyable — golf.

accra shafts on tour

Their story:  Billed as Ping’s “longest iron ever,” the G430 irons combine a lower CG with stronger, custom- engineered lofts and a thinner face that delivers up to two more mph of ball speed, per the company. At the heart of the new addition is the PurFlex cavity badge, an innovation that features seven flex zones that allow more free bending in design to increase ball speed across the face. In combination with a lower CG, the badge aims to contribute to a solid feel and pleasing impact sound.

Fitter comments:

  • “The best G.I. iron on the market. Easy to hit and launch while making great ball speed for distance.”
  • “The best iron in the game improvement category. High launch and packed with forgiveness on those off-center hits. It’s one of the easiest irons to hit. So easy to hit and look at for the average golfer.”
  • “Yeah, I mean, that’s definitely a go-to and in the matrix for sure. I mean, it’s just super easy to hit, super forgiving. They don’t mess that iron up.”
  • “Ping does a great job of building golf clubs. Their design is fantastic and it’s not for everybody, you know, it’s not the lowest-spinning club…but it sure is one of the most forgiving golf clubs and most consistent golf clubs. Ping G430 in that category of club, you can have something that a good player who needs a little help maybe can use because it’s consistent across the face, and you can’t do that with some of the other clubs because they’re not as consistent across the face for the ball speeds. It is a monster for us.”
  • “The best iron in the game improvement category. It’s one of the easiest irons to hit.”

For more photos/info, read our launch piece.

TaylorMade P790

accra shafts on tour

Their story: Engineers utilized the variables of tungsten weighting, SpeedFoam Air, and internal mass — with an assist from AI — to precisely give golfers what they need in each iron. For example, launch and forgiveness in the long irons. More specifically, TaylorMade is using what the company calls FLTD CG (flighted CG) to strategically position CG throughout the set (lower in the long irons, higher in the short irons). CG is positioned almost a millimeter lower in the long irons compared to previous generations. In the shorter irons, the higher CG positions allowed engineers to dial in spin and promote accuracy.

  • “Best combination of everything. The amalgamation of all irons on the market blended into one mathematically perfect design.”
  • “I think people recognize the name. It’s a very popular club. It stands up to every model in a category.”
  • “That’s the staple in the players distance category. It’s year-in, year-out. It’s tough to beat TaylorMade — they don’t go wrong with that iron, for sure. They make little refinements, but it’s almost like, yeah, just keep making little refinements. Don’t kind of mess that up just because the, I mean, it, it fits such a wide range of players and it’s just such a good iron that fits a wide, wide range of handicaps.”
  • “I think where TaylorMade kind of struggled over the past is getting that spin on the golf club, and I think each generation it just keeps getting better. I think they did an awesome job.”
  • “If it’s not our best-selling iron in the fitting center, it’s always like number two. It’s such a great, great performer across the board. And yeah, it just keeps getting better every year. It’s really awesome; crazy distance on that thing too.”

Srixon ZX5 Mk II

accra shafts on tour

Their story:  MainFrame v2 was developed with an Automated Intelligence process, flex-maximizing variable thickness pattern of grooves, channels, and cavities carefully milled into the backside of Z ZX5 iron faces for high ball speeds. Not only does MainFrame boost COR, but it also repositions mass away from the face and into the toe and sole for a lower CG for easier launch, more consistency, and forgiveness.

  • “I’m a big believer in the V-Sole. For high-speed guys who want a little forgiveness and are steep, it just doesn’t stick in the ground. Super soft and high launching. Not a ton of offset. It’s also been a good fit for moderate-to-high handicappers.”
  • “So I would say it, it kind of stands out in its category because it does launch higher than its competitors. It also sits in between some of the models, like, it doesn’t directly compete with a hollow cavity and it doesn’t compete with, like the Cobra King Tour. Like, it’s a degree stronger. For a forged iron, it performs great for us. The only problem is that it is a little bit light in a swing weight, so we have to be careful of who we fit.”
  • “It’s definitely one of our more popular irons for sure. You know, you get a guy who wants to play something small but still wants something more forgiving, and they don’t want kind of that full hollow body iron. I mean, that’s definitely one of our best sellers for sure. We’re seeing that a lot of combos — that’s a one iron that you can definitely combo with the ZX7 for sure.”
  • “I think a lot of guys like the concept of the V-Sole with them…If you’re talking an overall package, you know, for the guy that is looking for something clean. That’s a spectacular golf club. Good looks and good feel and great, you know, great performance, and it fits a lot of categories.”
  • “I think the one struggle a lot of companies have with that category is getting something to spin, so to try and give like guys so they don’t get those knuckleball shots or that fly out of the rough that goes 20 yards longer. I kind of think that that’s what I think makes that item so good is you get some spin on it, and I think it, it looks and feels good enough that like it, a guy that’s a mid-single digit can play it and be like, yeah, that’s good enough for me. But it’s also forgiving enough that a guy that’s in that kind of 12-to-15 kind of category if he wants to reach a little bit and play something that might look a little bit better. It just fits such a huge, huge range of players. I think it’s just awesome.”

Mizuno JPX923 Hot Metal

accra shafts on tour

Their story: “With the JPX923 Hot Metal, Mizuno introduces “4355 nickel chromoly,” which is 35 percent stronger than the original Hot Metal material and allows for an eight-percent thinner clubface. Cup face construction works in tandem with a deep center of gravity for high launch with stopping power. Mizuno developed Hot Metal Pro, Hot Metal and Hot Metal HL (High Launch) from 175,000 real golf swings recorded via Mizuno’s Swing DNA system.”

  • “These are great for a player who flips at the ball but also needs some help and forgiveness. The strong lofts help reduce a player’s launch and spin.”
  • “Great forgiveness with the feel that Mizuno is known for.”
  • “Great looking and great feeling irons.”
  • “If I had a player come in, that’s just your, you know, your average golfer. It’s one that is like, “Hey, this is, this is one to try.” This is gonna produce a lot of ball speed and is super forgiving. You can combo it really well. Mizuno does a great job where you can do combo sets just with lofts.”
  • “It’s very good. It’s one of the most popular. Always in the mix of game improvement irons when people come in and they want to hit something that’s forgiving and that also still feels less clicky.”

Titleist T200

accra shafts on tour

Their story :  If there were gripes about the previous generation of T200 irons, it was probably because of feel and sound at impact. Titleist heard your feedback on the previous T200 irons, and it listened. The new 2023 T200 irons have a reengineered chassis to create a stiffer structure and create a more stable feeling and muted sound. They also refined the Max Impact Technology within the head to sit closer to the L-face, further solidifying the feel.

  • “Best overall for us. Great looks, workability. Plenty of forgiveness.”
  • “I like the great look of these and they are easy to play for the average golfer.”
  • “That’s a big combo iron for sure, especially, but it’s also, you know, in that player distance category, it’s one of the higher launching ones, and it’s gonna spin a little bit more. I would say some of those irons in that category they launch, you know, they’ve launched a little bit lower and they don’t spin, which it is great for some players, but also some still want to play a smaller package.”
  • “I think it was definitely a big jump from the previous one. Yeah, I mean, one thing I’ve noticed is compared to some of the other irons, even kind of equal loft, it tends to get a little bit more height on it.”
  • “It’s great for one of those guys that if I get in there that’s kind of hitting a little low. It’s one to kind of throw in my hands…you’re seeing that initial launch kind of pick up a little bit compared to some of the other ones.”

Accra Tour Z RPG Shaft Review

Introduction.

The 2024 Accra Tour Z RPG is a high-performance golf shaft that is designed for players who are looking for maximum distance and control. The shaft features a unique blend of materials and construction techniques that provide a combination of stability, power, and feel.

Table of Contents

Additional Information

In addition to the Tour Z RPG and Tour Z RPG Tour, Accra also offers a number of other shafts in the Tour Z series. These include the Tour Z, Tour Z Black, and Tour Z Blue. Each shaft is designed for a specific type of golfer, so it is important to consult with a club fitter to find the right one for you.

Model Breakdown

The Tour Z RPG is available in two models: the Tour Z RPG and the Tour Z RPG Tour. The Tour Z RPG is the more forgiving model, while the Tour Z RPG Tour is designed for players with a higher swing speed.

Sure, here is a more detailed breakdown of the two models of the Accra Tour Z RPG shaft:

The Tour Z RPG is the more forgiving model of the two. It is designed for players with a slower swing speed or who are looking for a shaft that will help them hit the ball more consistently. The Tour Z RPG is available in the following weights and flexes:

  • 352: M3 (Regular)
  • 362: M4 (Stiff)
  • 372: M5 (X-Stiff)

The Tour Z RPG has a low balance point, which helps to promote a higher launch angle and lower spin. This makes it a good choice for players who are looking for more distance and forgiveness.

Tour Z RPG Tour

The Tour Z RPG Tour is designed for players with a higher swing speed. It is stiffer than the Tour Z RPG and offers more stability and power. The Tour Z RPG Tour is available in the following weights and flexes:

  • 462: M5+ (Stiff)
  • 472: M5+ (X-Stiff)

The Tour Z RPG Tour has a high balance point, which helps to promote a lower launch angle and more spin. This makes it a good choice for players who are looking for more control and accuracy.

Which Model is Right for You?

The best way to determine which model of the Accra Tour Z RPG is right for you is to consult with a club fitter. They can assess your swing speed and playing style and help you choose the shaft that will give you the best results.

Here are some additional factors to consider when choosing between the Tour Z RPG and Tour Z RPG Tour:

  • Swing speed: The Tour Z RPG Tour is designed for players with a higher swing speed. If you have a swing speed of 105 mph or more, then the Tour Z RPG Tour is a good option for you.
  • Playing style: The Tour Z RPG is more forgiving than the Tour Z RPG Tour. If you are looking for a shaft that will help you hit the ball more consistently, then the Tour Z RPG is a good choice.
  • Desired results: The Tour Z RPG Tour promotes a lower launch angle and more spin. If you are looking for more control and accuracy, then the Tour Z RPG Tour is a good choice.

Ultimately, the best way to choose the right model of the Accra Tour Z RPG is to try both shafts and see which one you prefer.

The Tour Z RPG features a number of innovative technologies that contribute to its performance. These include:

  • A five-directional ultra-lightweight weave that provides stability and increases the rate of recovery.
  • Multiple layers of high modulus composite materials that provide strength and feel.
  • A low resin to graphite ratio that results in a lightweight and responsive shaft.

The Tour Z RPG is available in a variety of weights and flexes to fit golfers of all swing speeds. The following are the standard specs:

  • Weight: 50-65 grams
  • Flex: R, S, X

Pros & Cons

  • Long and consistent distance
  • High launch angle with low spin
  • Stable and forgiving
  • Smooth and effortless feel
  • Can be too stiff for some players

Actual Player/User Comments

ACCRA Golf Shafts - A Perfect Match For Your Swing!

ACCRA Golf Shafts - A Perfect Match For Your Swing!

By DanSueltz March 19th, 2019

ACCRA Golf Shafts

Update:  The winner of the 2019 U.S. Open played ACCRA shafts in his driver and 3 wood.  Check out his bag here!

If you have not heard of ACCRA golf shafts, it is about time you did!  These graphite shafts have been in the industry for years and are offered exclusively through a network of the most talented clubfitters and club builders in the world.  At TrueFitClubs, we offer every shaft available from ACCRA .  We have tested all of them in our shaft profiling system and know EXACTLY which shaft(s) will work for your swing.  Here are the cool things to know about ACCRA shafts:

USE OUR FITTING WIZARD TO HELP FIND THE ACCRA SHAFT THAT WORKS PERFECTLY FOR YOUR clubs!

Shafts for Beginners and Pros

A lot of shaft companies focus only on the PGA Tour players and develop shafts strictly for that audience.  They hope that this will have a "trickle down" effect so the average golfer will buy those shafts.  The problem is, most golfers could never swing the shaft that the tour pros use!   So, ACCRA has made several different lines of shafts with different shaft profiles and different price points.  This means that the average golfer can get "fitted" with shafts that match THEIR swing but do not cost an arm and a leg.  From the iSeries to the RPG and TZ 5 and TZ6, ACCRA has a shaft for every swing.

ACCRA FX 2.0 Yellow

Manufactured by the Best

ACCRA shafts have long been manufactured to extremely tight tolerances.  Three years ago, the company struck a relationship with a Japanese shaft manufacturer to make all of their shafts.  I know that Japanese quality usually means higher prices but ACCRA has been able to keep their shaft prices very competitive to all other shaft manufacturers.  In fact, they even have several high end models that are better quality and equal to or less than the cost of so-called Japanese model shafts.

All Shafts Are Designed to Work Together

When the BGF Fitting System and our Fitting Wizards were designed, we looked at a lot of shaft manufacturers and tried to determine which would be the best for our fitting philosophy.  First, the shafts had to be very consistent in terms of actual flex no matter what weight category.  It is not uncommon in the industry to find a 50 gram S flex shaft that is completely different than a 70 gram S flex.  Not with ACCRA.  The ACCRA DyMatch process means all shafts regardless of weight will play the same in a given flex.

But even more important, our BGF Fitting philosophy requires ascending weight from driver through fairway woods, hybrids and irons.  This means that if you play a 60 gram shaft in your driver, your fairway woods will be 70 grams and your hybrids will be 80 grams.  ACCRA understands this and makes shafts that not only match your weight but match the shaft profile (trajectory and spin).

Dedicated to Exclusive Clubfitters

The ACCRA team sells their shafts EXCLUSIVELY through qualified clubfitters and clubbuilders.  We are proud to be one of them!  This means that you will NOT find an ACCRA shaft in a Callaway, TaylorMade or other OEM club.  When that happens, I guarantee you have a prescription for compromising quality for the almighty dollar.  No "made for" shafts from ACCRA!

So, if you want the broadest range of shafts with the best quality fit by the best clubfitters and club builders in the world, select ACCRA and TrueFit Clubs!  When you go through our Fitting Wizard, select the ACCRA shafts.  I guarantee there is a shaft from ACCRA to match YOUR swing!

Electrical tape is less permanent.  I'm going to buy a roll of 1" and see how I like it.  There are stickers called shaft skins, or something to this effect, but they are way too expensive.

Not my style.  I know what overall weight, and swingweight works for me, so the set doesn't leave the shop until it's in the acceptable range.

I still have the 1.0 icwt 95s in a set of Miuras that I practice with and periodically game. To me the Accras are a very smooth shaft, you can really go after it and if they are new shafts the 4" tip

Not one member with any info on this shaft?

There just doesn't seem to be any talk of Accra on these forums. I know they make excellent shafts, but for some reason there's 0 conversation about them.

Yeah, 40 minutes down the road from me here in canada, quietly this company mAkes great shafts but I guess it takes time to compete with major players,

I've built quite a few sets with these - 70g, 90g, 100g and the 110g and the feedback from my players has been nothing but positive. I play the 90g Tour in my Nakashima's and could not be happier. Highly recommended.

I just had my Miura irons reshafted with the Accra 90i Tour shafts. I had Recoil Prototype shafts in them before. I did some extensive testing with multiple graphite shafts and the Accra led to the best results on Flightscope. We did this testing over several sessions. I don't even remember all the shafts we tested, but Tony Rhode maybe able to chime in and perhaps share the results. So far, I am very impressed with these shafts. They have a nice solid feel to them, good ball flight with no ballooning in the wind, no real change in distance. The main improvement that I am seeing is in dispersion. While I really like my Recoils (Prototype 110 F4), they felt a little whippy when I would go after the ball. The Accras seem to hold up better when I make an aggressive swing at the ball. Right now, I am enjoying them enough, that I am considering reshafting my Epons with them as well. The other neat thing is that you can customize the appearance. They will let you choose color and reduce the number of decals they have on the shaft.

Thanks , not loving steel fiber 95s in reg. 56 year old single digit. Would you say the 90s play true to flex and can hold up if you jump On it a little ( in the s flex)

Accra has to be the most underrated shaft company out there. Their quality is second to none. Accra is my primary shaft go to brand for all of my fittings. The new Tour iron shafts are super impressive. They put an Axis weave in the butt section to keep the shaft stable when you go after it, but it doesn't feel harsh on normal shots either. I can't say enough good things about Accra shafts and the company too. They worked with Cool Clubs to develop the S3 machine for measuring EI profiles. You can request EI profiles be measured for every shaft you buy, they offer any custom color on the iSeries shaft line and custom engraving as well.

I have had and currently gaming the I series in my irons the the SP in my wedges. This is my third go around with them as I always come back to these. Must be the smooth feel. I also have the new FX in a fairway and switch out my XC55 in my driver between the Speeder 569. Accra makes great stuff very under rated. Hope this helps.

I'm in love with my new irons, with Accra 110 X.

Any updated info on the Accra iron shafts? I'm in the market for some new graphite shafts. Backup set had the Recoil protos in them, but just sold them Need to get a set of Epon 302s shafted up and get away from the Modus 105 steels in them currently.

raggal62

Get on eBay and do a search for Accra Tour 90i, 100i, and 110i. Seller is offering 8 new shafts for $205 w. free shipping. These are the older style but original retail was $65 ea.

Yep, that's a good deal, but unfortunately, they are all .370, and I need .355. I sincerely appreciate the heads up though!

Very common (and easy) to taper a .370" to .355", guys on this forum do it regularly. Just have to carefully file or sand the very 1/2" of the tip and test fit as you go. Most graphite manufacturers iron shafts start life as .370" and have basically what equates to a pencil sharpener to turn them down to .355".

Big Ben

I have a set of Accra Tour 110's in a set of Fourteen FM-1000's and think they are fantastic. Create a very soft feel and tight shot dispersion. Long time Steelfiber guy and thick they are easily on par. I love that they have a 6' parallel tip so matching my set was easy. BB

I thought I had read that somewhere, but beyond my ability. I think I'm going to give these a try for the price and take them down to Sellinger's Power Golf and have them shaft them up. Thanks for the advice Ben & Raggal! Love this place.

CStephenson17

I play a set of prototype 110s that are .370 sanded to .355. Best shafts I have ever played. I used Steelfiber for two seasons and like these way more!

SEP1006

Accra Tour 100i's in my PXG's, best iron shaft I've ever had by far.

OK boys. Ordered a set of the 100i's and will have them by this coming Friday. Should have them to the builder early next week. Too good a deal to pass up. I'm excited to give these a try. Thanks to everyone for all the knowledge sharing.

Re-asking the flex question raised in 2015... :-)

Do these play true to flex? I'm considering the Tour i90 or Tour ICWT 95 but not sure if I should go with a stiff or a stiff-regular flex.

Don't have a fitter near me. 7I average carry is 160 yards. I'm comfortable with a Modus 105 stiff for flex reference but can play the modus 105 regular as well.

Thanks in advance.

Any one have experience with the icwt 95 or tour 90?

IMO, 95icwt sit between a Recoil and Steelfiber in regards to feel.

ian-500

I think that's a great assessment. For Liongolfer, (I think I know who you are.....) I reckon the Accra's are a livelier version of Fire Express DGL. Maybe a combo of Roddio and Steelfiber for your reference. Smooth like Roddio but with a spring effect or kick that I feel Steelfibers have. Maybe Fire Express WBQ are the answer......need to test them one day, hahahahaha.

Driver: still looking..... 4 Wood: Kamui Pro TP-XF 17.5° + Fujikura Speeder Evolution VI FW70x  @ 42 1/2".

7 Wood: Kamui Pro TP-XF 22.5° + Fujikura Speeder Evolution VI FW80x  @ 41 3/4". Irons: Kamui Pro KP-102 5i-PW + KBS TGI 110 + 1/2". Wedges: Callaway Jaws Forged 50°/55°/60° + KBS C-Taper Putter: SeeMore SB1 + Accra FX300.

Yeah you guessed right. I'm wondering if these play stiff to flex. Flex for Flex in the same weight class, how do these stack up to Roddios? I've no clue how steel fibres play.

Just been to the range and compared my OnOff 5i/Accra, Fourteen 26*/AD DI 105x, Fourteen 21*/Diamana 90x and OnOff 21*/Roddio i-8s. Certainly not apples to apples but I'd take a best guess and say I'd say that the Accra Tour 110x is more stout/firm than a Roddio i-10sx.

Thanks. An X should play more stout than a SX.

I'm trying to ascertain if the Accra plays stiff to flex like say the Crazy shafts. That'll help me make a less risky punt on flex. Thinking of the icwt95 now.
